  4. Calling all Disney World Annual Passholders! Although some limited-time perks are disappearing soon, there’s a NEW exclusive treat in Hollywood Studios that you’ll want to know about. Annual Pass Card Disney sometimes comes out with new treats that are just for Passholders, like the Stitch Cake Cone in EPCOT. The new sundae in Hollywood Studios is the latest perk! There are a bunch of new treats in Hollywood Studios, like the Frazzled Float (a POG juice float!), The Incredibles Chocolate Cake, Lightning McQueen Spare Tire Donut, and more. All of them are Pixar-themed, and that’s the case with this new Annual Passholder-exclusive treat as well! Hollywood Studios The Annual Passholder Exclusive Lightning McQueen Ice Cream Sundae can be found at Hollywood Scoops for $7.79. Hollywood Scoops The treat is your choice of a hand-scooped ice cream flavor topped with hot fudge, whipped cream, red and yellow sprinkles, and a chocolate-coconut cake doughnut. AP-Exclusive Lightning McQueen Ice Cream Sundae We thought this was a super fun, customizable sundae; however, the flavors weren’t very unique or different. AP-Exclusive Lightning McQueen Ice Cream Sundae The donut cake on top is the same as the one found in the Lightning McQueen Spare Tire Donut, just without the raspberry filling inside. It’s very rich and chocolatey! AP-Exclusive Lightning McQueen Ice Cream Sundae We chose vanilla ice cream, but here’s a list of flavors available at Hollywood Scoops: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, cookies & cream, mint chocolate chip, orange sherbet, and fat-free no-sugar-added vanilla. We thought the vanilla balanced really well with the rich donut, but if you want a true chocolate-lovers’ dessert, you should definitely try chocolate ice cream with it! AP-Exclusive Lightning McQueen Ice Cream Sundae The red and yellow sprinkles are cute and fit the theme of the treat, but they don’t really add any flavor. They provide some good textural contrast, though. AP-Exclusive Lightning McQueen Ice Cream Sundae The ice cream melts very quickly in the sun, so make sure you eat it quick and grab some napkins! AP-Exclusive Lightning McQueen Ice Cream Sundae There are a LOT of new treats in Disney World right now, including all of those Pixar treats in Hollywood Studios, a bunch of Lion King treats in Animal Kingdom to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary, and some Encanto-themed snacks in EPCOT. 5. I travel almost full-time, and the way I make that happen is by choosing to save money on trips just about any way I can. ©Spirit Airlines I will absolutely fly a budget airline, and you might see me packing only a personal item for my trip to avoid luggage fees. I have experimented with house sitting to have free lodging in a location I want to visit. I’ve bought hotel points on sale to pay for a stay cheaper than paying with cash. I’ve tried out a new bus route between the Orlando Airport and Disney World to see if saving the money on a rideshare would make sense. I’m willing to skimp on some things so that I can splurge on others and travel more. Today, I’m checking out whether Costco Travel is a cheaper way to rent a car for Disney World. Renting a car can be a good way to go for your Disney World vacation. Rental car rates have come down quite a bit since they skyrocketed during the pandemic, and if you consider the cost of getting your family to and from the airport, it might not be a whole lot more than that to just rent a car for your trip. If you’re staying in a Disney World hotel, you won’t have to pay to park the car at the hotel or at the parks. Free Disney World transportation is a great benefit — but sometimes it’s nice to not have to wait in those long lines for buses at the end of the evening as the parks are closing, right? And having a car might help you save money in other ways — like going to get groceries and supplies at a nearby store, shopping for souvenirs (nearby Targets and Walmarts have huge selections of Disney items for way less than in the parks), or eating some of your meals in restaurants outside the Disney bubble where there’s not an upcharge for the location. So. Many. Souvenirs at the Target stores nearest to Disney World. I recently joined Costco and have been trying out their travel services to see if the discounts are worth the cost of the membership, which was $59 when I bought it. I do suggest looking around for a deal if you’re going to buy a Costco membership — I wound up buying mine through Groupon, which got me a $30 Costco gift card once I activated my membership. So while I couldn’t find a discount on the price of the membership, having that gift card got me $30 in free Costco merchandise. Costco Travel allows you to book rental cars through well-known national brands like Budget, Alamo, and Avis. I have used the Costco Travel rental car services twice, on trips to Cincinnatti, Ohio, and Evansville, Indiana. In both of those instances, I saw slight savings over the rental car rates I could find on the companies’ own websites — but the rates were close. I saved about 10%. But the additional benefits made me go with Costco — in both instances I was able to get a larger class of vehicle, and in one instance Costco was running a promotion where I got a $25 Costco gift card after I completed my rental. Again — free food from Costco, basically. So while it wasn’t a direct discount off the rental car, it was still some savings I could realize. I’ll take it! Parking in Disney World So let’s run the numbers on some rental cars for a trip to Disney World. We’ll say we’re flying into Orlando International Airport on Wednesday, September 4th, and flying home on Sunday, September 8th. We’ll look for an Intermediate Car — which rental car companies say will carry 5 passengers and 3 large suitcases. The cheapest Intermediate Car through Costco Travel is with Budget for $255.32. Budget says it is a Toyota Corolla or similar. Costco Travel rental car quote The price that Costco Travel shows on the search screen is the “all-in” price. It includes all taxes and fees. You will also see there that you do not pay until you pick up the car, and you have free cancelation — even on the same day. I have canceled a rental car I had reserved through Costco Travel on the day I was supposed to pick the car up (because my flight was canceled). This was easy to do online and resulted in no charges. Now, let’s look at the actual rate for the car and what the taxes and fees amount to. Costco Travel rental car price breakdown. So the actual car rental is $182.31 for an Intermediate Car through Budget from September 4th-8th with pick-up and drop-off at Orlando International Airport. With the taxes and fees, the total is $255.32. Now moving on to Budget, here’s what pops up on the search screen when I look for an Intermediate Car from September 4th-8th on Budget’s website. Rental car quote from Budget’s website Wow! That looks quite a bit cheaper. Except, it’s not. The prices on the search screen are the rate for the car only — without taxes and fees. We’re going to try to match up the rentals exactly, so we’re choosing the “Pay Later” option here that offers free cancellation. So, here’s the total… Total from Budget’s website It’s $290.19. (Yep, the total is at the TOP, and not down at the bottom where the base rate and fees and taxes are outlined. Kinda tricky.) Through Budget’s website, the total is about $35 more. Is it a huge savings to use Costco? No. But these are exactly the areas where I skimp when I can … because that same $35 can buy me two margaritas at La Cava del Tequila. The La Cava Avocado margarita Now, this example is me checking one set of dates. Might you find a super sale on Budget’s website on another day? Sure — likewise with Costco, which sometimes offers free Costco gift cards of varying amounts when you use their services. My advice is to check Costco first, and then go check the actual rental car website to see if a better deal can be had. So far, the better deal for me since I joined has been Costco Travel 100% percent of the time, but that could change. And, well, I’m gonna keep looking for the best deal I can find! I’ll keep looking for travel hacks to save on your next vacation if you’ll keep following us here at DFB. Deal? I Travel Full-Time. Here Are 8 Surprising Things I Carry With Me. 7. Prepare to eat like Pumbaa, Lion King fans. Timon and Pumbaa In preparation for the upcoming 30th anniversary of The Lion King, Disney has introduced five NEW desserts themed to the film at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. There’s a new ice cream sandwich, a Simba-themed cookie, a Zazu DOLE Whop float, and more! Let’s get eating! The Zazu Ice Cream Sandwich Available for $7.29 at Tamu Tamu refreshments, the Zazu Ice Cream Sandwich is vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two blue cake-coated sugar cookies with a Zazu medallion on top. Zazu Ice Cream Sandwich While this dessert may seem a bit basic, we really enjoyed it! We’re big fans of the ice cream sandwiches at Dino-Bite Snacks, and this one was similar. Zazu Ice Cream Sandwich The cookies were moist with a hint of lemon, the ice cream was cold and refreshing, and the treat is large enough for TWO people to split. Zazu Ice Cream Sandwich We’d definitely recommend it — in fact, we thought this was the BEST new treat of the five we tried today! Zazu Ice Cream Sandwich Simba Paw Cookie While the Zazu Ice Cream Sandwich was basic but enjoyable, the Simba Paw cookie was simply basic. Simba Paw Cookie It’s a shortbread cookie covered in fondant that’s sure to melt in the Florida sun. Simba Paw Cookie While the cookie is cheap ($4.50) and plentiful (available at a bevy of popcorn and snack stands), it’s essentially a run-of-the-mill shortbread cookie. Simba Paw Cookie Still, big fans of The Lion King might enjoy it! And it could be a hit with kids who like treats with simple flavors and fun theming. Rightful Ruler Cupcake The Rightful Ruler Cupcake, available at both Restaurantosaurus and Pizzafari for $6.29, is a red velvet cupcake with chocolate buttercream and cookies and cream cheese filling, topped with a white chocolate medallion. Rightful Ruler Cupcake Our take here was a simple one: This is very sweet. The red velvet cupcake is solid — moist with a good crumb. It’s a solid cake. The cookies and cream filling has a rich, sweet cream cheese taste. Rightful Ruler Cupcake The chocolate buttercream frosting on top is good, but there’s just a ton of it to get that domed effect and make it pretty. That buttercream and the cookies and cream filling combine into a bit of overkill sweetness. Rightful Ruler Cupcake Red velvet fans will like this, but we’d likely recommend splitting it because it’s incredibly sweet. You Follow Old Rafiki Cheesecake Available at Harambe Market for $6.49, this passion fruit-mango cheesecake features a coconut-lime crust, vanilla bean chantilly, and a chocolate medallion featuring a meditating Rafiki. You Follow Old Rafiki Cheesecake We found this snack pretty to look at…but very hard to eat! The coconut-like crust was almost too hard, to the point that we broke a plastic knife and fork trying to cut into it. Eventually, we resorted to eating the rest of the layers, then picking the crust up to eat like a cookie. You Follow Old Rafiki Cheesecake Now, the crust was delicious — crispy with lots of coconut and a hint of the lime flavor. It just should be a cookie instead of a crust for this dessert, in our opinion. You Follow Old Rafiki Cheesecake Also, the item is billed as a passion fruit-mango cheesecake, but what we tasted was more like a plain cheesecake base, with a passion fruit-mango glaze on top. The glaze had the consistency of a jelly. You Follow Old Rafiki Cheesecake The vanilla bean chanttily cream was light and delicious. The Rafiki meditating medallion on the top is normal white chocolate. Zazu DOLE Whip Lime and Coconut Float This DOLE Whip float costs $6.49 and features lime-flavored DOLE whip swirled into Sprite with coconut and blue curaçao syrup. You can get it at Trilo-Bites! Zazu Dole Whip Lime and Coconut Float It’s supposed to come topped with a decorative white chocolate character medallion; however, we didn’t receive one as Cast Members said they didn’t have them yet. Zazu Dole Whip Lime and Coconut Float Overall as we often do with lime DOLE Whip, we found the lime flavor a bit overpowering, as it dominated the other flavors coconut and blue curaçao, especially just tasting lime and Sprite. It was fun and refreshing, and if you’re a big fan of lime, you’ll probably love this! But if you prefer more subtle flavors, you might want to stick to the regular DOLE Whip or DOLE Whip Pineapple Orange Soda Float over at Tamu Tamu Refreshments. Zazu Dole Whip Lime and Coconut Float These Lion King desserts are available at Animal Kingdom right now in celebration of the iconic animated film’s 30th anniversary. 9. We’re inching closer to the opening of a brand-new ride in Disney World! View from the top of the drop! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is set to open on June 28th, 2024, and we are pumped! We’ve already had the chance to ride thanks to some Cast Member and media previews, but if you’re an Annual Passholder, you’ll get the opportunity to hop on the ride a little early as well. Annual Passholder previews kick off this week, and Disney is getting prepped! If you’re a Disney World Annual Passholder, you’ll have the opportunity to preview Tiana’s Bayou Adventure on June 13th, 14th, 16th, 17th, 18th, and 20th. Annual Passholders will need to make a park reservation at Magic Kingdom on one of the preview dates to have the opportunity to join the 7AM virtual queue — or, make a park reservation at any of the parks to have the opportunity to join the 1PM virtual queue. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure And as of Tuesday, June 11th, the virtual queue is now loaded in the My Disney Experience app! To access, you’ll need to click “Join Virtual Queue” on the app’s homepage and then go to the Magic Kingdom section. The Tiana virtual queue is located just below the TRON one. When it’s time to join the queue, a blue button will pop up on this screen. ©Disney Unfortunately, it’s important to note that Disney Park Passes for Magic Kingdom are completely full for Annual Passholders on the preview dates. If you’d like to try and join the 7AM virtual queue on one of those days, you’ll need to keep checking back between now and then to see if availability changes. Disney Park Passes are also full for Annual Passholders on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure’s opening date. ©Disney However, hope is not lost for attending a preview! If you make a Park Pass reservation for a different park (which are all still completely available during the preview dates) you can hop to Magic Kingdom before 1PM and try to join the queue in the afternoon. Keep in mind that both queues are subject to availability, and it may be difficult to snag a spot. Entrance sign It’s also important to note that we’ve seen this ride have some technical difficulties during its preview phases so far. It went down multiple times during Cast Member previews and then had some closure time during the media event as well. It’s possible that there could be some delays during Annual Passholder previews, so be flexible and PLEASE be kind to the Cast Members who work the attraction. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure queue We’ll make sure to keep you updated if anything important happens during the Annual Passholder previews, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest. 13. The construction walls are FINALLY down in EPCOT! Mickey & Friends After several years, the entire park is once again open, and we’ve got new spots to explore! Disney just officially opened CommuniCore Plaza and CommuniCore Hall in World Celebration, and we were there to check them out on opening day. But one thing we thought was really fun about this new space? There are SO many hidden details and nods to old EPCOT. Most of these details are found on CommuniCore Hall in the section near (and inside of!) the Mickey & Friends meet and greet. Disney has decorated the queue space with artwork to commemorate the various stages of EPCOT. One of the first nods we spotted was this artwork of the ride vehicle from Body Wars! Remember that attraction that would literally take you INSIDE a human body? Super weird and super nostalgic. So many details in the artwork! Nearby, we spotted Goofy in an outfit that also transported us back in time! He’s cruising along in the hovercraft vehicle from the desert portion of Horizons. Horizons sadly closed back in 1999 and today, Mission: SPACE lives in its former home. Hey Goof! Speaking of Mission: SPACE, we’re pretty sure this rocket is a nod to the space exploration attraction! During the ride, you board a shuttle for either a flight around the earth (on the green mission) or a trip to Mars (on the orange mission). Ready for launch! Another nod to Horizons can be found both outside the Mickey & Friends meet and greet, as well as indoors in the meet and greet room — the robot butler! He used to appear in the “looking back at the future” segment of Horizons as a nod to futurism. How we wish we had robot butlers today! The robot butler! Also in the outdoor queue, we noticed some art that looks suspiciously like one of our favorite pavilions — is that The Land Pavilion that we see? These days, the pavilion is home to Living With the Land, Soarin’ Around the World, Awesome Planet, and Sunshine Seasons. It’s the Land Pavilion Right next door to The Land Pavilion is The Seas Pavilion, and it was represented in the stunning mural by this scuba diver! We’ve spent many hours watching the scuba divers inside the giant aquarium at The Seas, so this is a fitting tribute. A nod to The Seas Around the corner as you enter the indoor part of the queue, we spotted this dinosaur! Do you know what it represents? That’s right hardcore EPCOT fans, this is a nod to Universe of Energy! Universe of Energy Once you get inside, there’s a waiting room before you get to the actual meet and greet. Here, we noticed a familiar vehicle — Dreamfinder’s flying machine from the OG Figment attraction. This was featured in Journey Into Imagination before it went through two revamps to become the version we have today. The Dreamfinder! With the revamp of the middle of EPCOT, we lost the iconic Fountain of Nations, so Disney honored the landmark with some artwork inside this room. It was a stunning feature in the former Future World! Fountain of Nations We also spotted artwork of SMRT-1, who was a robot character from the old CommuniCore! You could previously find him at CommuniCore’s Computer Central area Look who it is! And last but not least, we’ve got to show off this hidden Mickey we found in the meet and greet room! One of the walls is covered with beautiful floral artwork, and you’ll spot Mickey tucked away inside. And a hidden Mickey If you want to learn more about the secrets of CommuniCore Hall — check out this video from Disney! They added special tiles to the exterior of the building that light up at night to match Spaceship Earth. How cool is that? That’s a wrap on the hidden details from the new CommuniCore Hall! 16. A bunch of Pixar-themed treats just arrived in Disney World, and you know we had to try them ALL! Pixar Ball One of the new treats is a POG-flavored float, and as HUGE fans of POG, we were super excited about this one especially. But we also grabbed an incredibly chocolatey donut, an adorable cupcake, the most gorgeous little cake, and more. Let’s check them all out! Some of these treats are available for a limited time, and if Disney has announced the end date, we’ve included it in our review. However, others were just announced as arriving on June 10th with no end date listed, so we’re crossing our fingers that those stick around longterm! Most of these can be found in Hollywood Studios, but that gorgeous petit cake we mentioned before is at Amorette’s Patisserie in Disney Springs. OK, enough with the info — let’s eat some treats! Frazzled Float You can get this treat for $6.79 at Epic Eats. It’s available from June 10th through September 6th. Epic Eats The float is made with Minute Maid passion fruit, orange, and guava juice; Sprite; vanilla soft-serve; and chocolate sauce. It’s topped with candied orange and chocolate bark. Frazzled Float We were SO excited to be trying a new POG-flavored snack, but this one was…odd. We couldn’t quite place the flavor of the drink part of it because we wanted it to be either an orange Fanta-type soda or just POG juice (not sparkling) and it actually fell somewhere in the middle. It was bubbly and sweet because of the Sprite but still had that POG flavor, and although we could see that working in theory, it really just tasted kind of strange. Frazzled Float The ice cream and chocolate bark were tasty, especially when combined with that POG flavor, but we couldn’t get past the odd mixture of POG juice and Sprite. Frazzled Float If you’re a huge fan of POG juice, this one might be worth a try, but we probably won’t be picking it up again. Incredibles Chocolate Cake The Incredibles Chocolate Cake is now available at the ABC Commissary, and Disney hasn’t announced how long it’ll stick around. It costs $6.29. ABC Commissary This treat is chocolate cake covered with dark chocolate ganache and topped with lemon and strawberry buttercream and strawberry jam. Incredibles Chocolate Cake This treat was decadent! It’s a rich chocolate cake with a thin outer coating of ganache all over it. The fruit-flavored toppings with the dark chocolate are very tasty. Incredibles Chocolate Cake The lemon is more prominent than the strawberry, but when you get just strawberry with the chocolate, those were our favorite bites. Incredibles Chocolate Cake The strawberry jam is thick, and there’s not a ton of it, so we could have used a little more to cut through that rich chocolate. Incredibles Chocolate Cake The chocolate piece on top is cute and gives the treat a great thematic element. Overall it’s a fairly simple treat but one we’d definitely get again if we wanted something decadent and sweet! Lightning McQueen Spare Tire The Lightning McQueen Spare Tire can be found at Rosie’s All-American Café for $5.79. Rosie’s All-American Café This is a chocolate cake doughnut filled with raspberry jam enrobed in dark chocolate mousse, coconut glaze, chocolate flakes, and a chocolate coin. Lightning McQueen Spare Tire We didn’t have super high hopes for this treat, but it really surprised us in the best way! It’s VERY chocolatey, so this is definitely one for those chocoholics out there. Lightning McQueen Spare Tire Because of how rich and chocolatey it is, we think it’s very shareable. The chocolate and coconut are the strongest flavors at first, but once you get some of that raspberry flavor from the jam in the middle, it cuts through the chocolate and gives a great burst of fruitiness. Lightning McQueen Spare Tire Since it’s so heavy and rich, we probably wouldn’t recommend getting this right before you ride Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster or Slinky Dog Dash, as it might upset your stomach, but it’s a great treat to grab if you’re just going to walk around or do a little shopping. Lightning McQueen Spare Tire We think kids will love this treat, especially with the Lightning McQueen theme! Mike Wazowski Cupcake Head to Backlot Express to get the Mike Wazowski Cupcake for $6.29! Backlot Express This is a vanilla cake filled with raspberry jam topped with pistachio buttercream and butterscotch chips. Mike Wazowski Cupcake The pistachio and raspberry paired together was an excellent combination. The vanilla cupcake wasn’t really anything special on its own, but it was a solid base for the sweet raspberry filling. Mike Wazowski Cupcake The pistachio flavor is prominent in the icing, and we loved the combination of all three flavors together — pistachio, raspberry, and vanilla. Mike Wazowski Cupcake The theming is also super cute, and we think parents will appreciate that the green buttercream won’t leave the little ones stained green! Mike Wazowski Cupcake It’s a simple but delicious treat, and we think anyone looking for a tasty snack will enjoy this. Feeling Kinda Blue-Berry Chai Iced Latte You can find the Feeling Kinda Blue-berry Chai Iced Latte at Market, Neighborhood Bakery, and Catalina Eddie’s in Hollywood Studios. It’ll be available at those locations from June 10th through July 26th. It’s available at Amorette’s Patisserie at Disney Springs from June 10th through July 14th. We picked it up for $5.99. Neighborhood Bakery This drink is a blueberry-flavored Chai Iced Latte with notes of clove, cinnamon, and orange blossom. Feeling Kinda Blue-Berry Chai Iced Latte This was a VERY sweet drink! The blueberry flavor is prominent, but we could definitely taste the spices as well. Feeling Kinda Blue-Berry Chai Iced Latte The spices give it almost a gingerbread taste, like if you had a gingerbread cookie with blueberry icing on top. Feeling Kinda Blue-Berry Chai Iced Latte On a hot day, this was a great sweet drink to cool off and give us a little sugar rush. Inside Out 2 Petit Cake The Inside Out 2 Petit Cake is available at Amorette’s Patisserie in Disney Springs from June 10th through July 14th. Amorette’s Patisserie This is a cake made with layers of vanilla chiffon, peanut butter mousse, strawberry jam, with crushed peanuts and crispy pearls. It’s pretty expensive at $22. Inside Out 2 Petit Cake The best way we can describe this treat is a PB&J cake! It’s really delicious and nostalgic. The crushed peanuts inside add a great crunch, but they’re not super prevalent (more of a fun surprise when you get them in a bite). Inside Out 2 Petit Cake The vanilla chiffon cake is light and spongy, although the layers of cake are very thin compared to the layers of mousse and jam. Inside Out 2 Petit Cake The theming is super cute, and we thought the PB&J flavor matched the whimsical tone of the cake very well. Inside Out 2 Petit Cake This might have been one of our favorite Amorette’s treats ever! Although $22 is a hefty price, we didn’t regret buying this tasty little cake. Inside Out 2 Petit Cake Even though the flavors are elevated, we think kids will still love this one because of the familiar PB&J taste. Popcorn Bucket and Sipper You can get the Pixar Pizza Planet Truck Popcorn Bucket at various popcorn carts, including the ones in the Hollywood Boulevard courtyard (near Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and over by Hollywood Brown Derby), and at Neighborhood Bakery. Pixar Truck Popcorn Bucket The popcorn bucket costs $26, but note that they’re more expensive at the popcorn carts in the courtyard because the county taxes on that side of the park are higher. Pixar Truck Popcorn Bucket The Slinky Dog Sipper is available at various vending carts throughout the park and costs $12.79. 17. The shopping in Magic Kingdom is pretty unmatched. The Emporium Well, okay, Disney Springs is the ultimate shopping location in Disney World, BUT The Emporium on Main Street U.S.A. is just so iconic! While we don’t recommend shopping at the beginning of your day, so you don’t have to carry your bags around for the rest of your hours in the park, we didn’t really think there was a bad time to shop. That all changed when one of our reporters ran face-first into the reason you should NEVER go shopping after this in Magic Kingdom. Each day in Magic Kingdom, you’ll find one or two showings of the Festival of Fantasy Parade. The parade attracts TONS of viewers each day, because it truly is iconic and such a special moment in the day. After the parade finished around 4PM, our reporter turned in The Emporium to check out merchandise and ran into a WALL OF PEOPLE. When the parade ended, everyone had turned into the store to go shopping, making it immensely crowded. Festival of Fantasy As our reporter continued further down the shops, toward the direction of the castle, the crowds didn’t let up, and eventually she just decided to come back a little later. Sure enough, about half an hour later, the crowds had died down. Crowds at the Emporium So what should you do if you’re on Main Street U.S.A. right after the parade ends? Well, you could hop in line to meet Mickey Mouse at Town Square Theater before the rest of the crowds get there, or you could mobile order a snack from the Main Street Confectionery or Casey’s Corner to enjoy, then go shopping afterwards! Crowds If you’re closer to the castle, we suggest turning tail and BOOKING IT (without running!) to head to a nearby attraction that usually has a high wait such as Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, or Space Mountain to try to beat some of the parade crowds there! Peter Pan’s Flight Now, the people who chose not to watch the parade will have been taking advantage of the slightly lower wait times and will be in front of you, but at least you’ll have beaten the MOB that’s about to follow you. Haunted Mansion So if you shouldn’t go shopping after the parade, when SHOULD you go? We strongly recommend waiting until the end of your park day to go shopping, even if it’s after the fireworks! In fact, the shops will stay open a little later after park close, so shopping is a great way to let the heaviest crowds get on the ferry, Monorail, and buses. Plus, then you don’t have to be carrying around your merchandise bags all day, or worrying about stopping back at your hotel in the middle of the day. Main Street U.S.A. 19. Sometimes things work in Disney World…and sometimes they don’t. Check it out! We Are OBSESSED With Our Owala Water Bottle! Owala Water Bottle More than one person on the team uses an Owala Water Bottle in the park, and we’re all in agreement that we LOVE them. Classic And Reliable — Loungefly is Our Favorite Stickers Loungefly We’ve tried out a lot of different bags in the parks, and while we’ve found a few different brands that we like, we continue to love Loungefly! 20. It seems like there’s ALWAYS a new DOLE Whip flavor to try in Disney World. EPCOT Disney World has a litany of Dole Whip flavors and combinations spread across the property. Some of them take up space in our pantheon of favorite theme park snacks while others should be left in the dustbin of Disney World history. So, where does the most recent flavor we tried stand? Recently, our DFB team member paid a visit to EPCOT and stopped by the Refreshment Outpost in World Showcase. This is a great place to find DOLE Whip treats in this park. Refreshment Outpost Our reporter was initially planning to sample the cherry Dole Whip Flavor; however, cherry was not available, so instead they ordered the Lime and Pineapple Dole Whip Swirl that the outpost is currently offering. Refreshment Outpost Menu Now, we’ve seen lime dole whip mixed with other flavors in the past (one of our favorite combos is lime and mango), but we hadn’t tried lime with pineapple before. Usually, it seems like lime tends to overpower the other DOLE Whip flavor it’s paired with. But can pineapple stand its own in this combo? In our opinion, it can! The lime was very tangy and refreshing, and the pineapple was similar in flavor (sharp and tangy) but still distinct. Our reporter described the two strong flavors paired together as “aggressively refreshing,” which was actually perfect for the hot Orlando day. We’d definitely get this combo again! An interesting Dole Whip mix Given that the Cast Member working at the time indicated that they are “using up anything random they have left in terms of DOLE Whip flavors,” it’s unclear how long the combo of lime and pineapple Dole Whip will be available, so if you want to try it out, we’d recommend getting it ASAP. Lime and Pineapple! If you’re in the mood for a tangy, “aggressively refreshing” treat, we’d suggest giving it a try! Stay tuned to DFB for more Walt Disney World food reviews! 21. As if planning a Disney World trip isn’t already complicated enough without having to worry about severe weather, unfortunately, it can be a near certainty during summer months. Magic Kingdom during Hurricane Idalia 2023 Thunderstorms, wind, and heavy rainfall can come out of seemingly nowhere — catching you off guard. Luckily, storms tend to only last for short periods of time…except when they don’t. If you’ve got a trip to Disney World planned this upcoming week, consider this your official warning. A low-pressure system will form in the Gulf of Mexico and will bring increased rainfall every day this week. According to News 6, this system will continue to move northeast over the state and as it enters the open waters of the Atlantic, it could possibly develop the system. Because of this, the National Hurricane Center is giving the area a 20% chance of development over the next seven days. Rainy Day at Animal Kingdom Hopefully, this weather is good news for the Sassagoula River boats which are currently not running in Disney World due to low water levels. If you are relying on the ferry only to find that it is closed unexpectedly due to something like weather, you may not know what to do! Closures happen from time to time due to weather and technical issues. We have also seen the boats close in the summer due to low water levels and other construction in the area. Rain! You can prepare for storms by packing rain gear and extra dry clothes to change into. We even recommend an extra pair of shoes — or socks, at least. Sometimes the rain can cool things down, but not really enough to warrant bringing a jacket. Though, if you think you’ll be more comfortable, a light rain jacket might be just the thing. Cast Members throughout Disney World are trained on how to keep guests safe during severe weather conditions. If you need to, take shelter in a gift shop or other indoor area, and make sure to listen to instructions being relayed through Cast Members or park announcements for safety information and updates. Cinderella Castle Summer weather in Central Florida can be unpredictable but we do our best to let you know when severe storms are on their way. It can sometimes be unavoidable on an already planned trip — but you can still have an incredible time! Stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for the latest updates from Disney World and more! 24. Ah, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party! I have quite the fondness for this party. The costumes, the treats, the spooky music, Boo to You, the rare characters — what’s not to love, right? Main Street U.S.A. at night And while I love it, I have decided to skip the party this year for one specific reason. So, I have a little one and we are taking him to Disney World for the very first time this year! We took him to Disneyland for his very first Disney trip and it was a BLAST. Difficult (if ya know, ya know). But totally worth it! And now, this year, we are going to tackle Disney World. Originally, we had planned an October trip to Disney World so we could attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. I was so looking forward to dressing up as a family, I wanted to get pics and autographs from all of the rare characters, and I just knew that he’d love Boo to You! It’s Halloween! But here’s the thing — my little won’t even be two years old when we go to Disney World. And if you have a little one, you know how unpredictable they can be, especially in new situations. The people, the parks, and the sounds can be very exciting for kiddos but they can also be very overstimulating. To combat this, a bit we were originally planning to do the party the first night we were at the parks. I thought that this would help because my little won’t already be super tired and fussy from a long week. I also was going to just have him wear a Ghost Host t-shirt to compliment mine and my husband’s Haunted Mansion costumes so he wouldn’t be uncomfortable and hot. It seemed like the perfect plan! But then pricing was released and I changed my mind completely. Powerline Max I used to be a Cast Member and I have worked at DFB for over 5 years. So I knew that the party was going to be expensive. But for my little family of 3 it was going to be almost $350 (and that’s with my little one getting into the party for free). So, I had a hard talk with my husband and we came to the conclusion that we were going to skip the party this year. Here’s why. Ultimately, the party is LATE for our little one. Florida is already going to be an hour ahead in terms of time for us and it lasts until midnight. We don’t know if he is simply going to fall asleep in the stroller or if he is going to be super fussy because he’s sleepy and can’t get comfortable. I can’t imagine paying over $300 to go to the party and needing to leave at 8 or 9. Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Also, he’s so young that he doesn’t know the difference between just being at Disney World and going to a party like this one. So we decided to save that $300 for something more memorable and exciting on our trip. Now, we are going to get his hair cut at the Barber Shop and we are going to eat at Crystal Palace for breakfast so he can try churro waffles and meet Pooh and Friends!! I literally can’t wait to see the photos! And luckily, we can still feel the Halloween vibes on our trip without going to the party. Magic Kingdom will still be decorated. Disney World will sell Halloween-themed treats during the day. And there will be a slew of Halloween merchandise across the parks. So while I feel bummed that we are missing out on the party, I’m super thankful that we will still get to feel the fun spooky Disney Halloween vibes on our trip. Halloween decorations at Disney World If you are planning to take your little one to Disney World this year and are going to visit the party, we suggest taking a break earlier in the day so your little feels nice and refreshed! Go in with an open mind and know that you might not be able to tackle everything on your list. And most of all, have FUN!!!
