This Disney Springs restaurant just introduced some NEW menu items. Morimoto Asia Since it opened, Morimoto Asia — the flagship Pan-Asian restaurant from “Japanese master chef” and Iron Chef veteran Masaharu Morimoto — has become one of Disney Springs’ most popular restaurants. The restaurant’s menu combines elements of Japanese dishes including sushi and sashimi, Chinese classics like crispy Peking duck, and Korean and Malay specialties into a large and diverse selection. Recently, Morimoto Asia just introduced new options to their outdoor Street Food quick service location window. We sampled some of these new offerings and had… conflicted thoughts. Bulkogi Kimuchi Ramen ($18.00) This ramen dish features thin-sliced sweet soy-marinated beef, with duck broth, house-pickled kimchi, gochujang sauce, and scallion soy-marinated egg Ramen! So, we were told this dish was spicy, but initially, we thought that was being overblown. However, the longer we ate, the spicer it felt! That being said, we found the noodles to be nice, thick, and cooked well. The clear broth was very tasty, with a bit of a chili flavor. It was spicier than we thought We found the beef tender, and the marinade gave it a slightly sweet taste. The marinated egg was delicious and cooked perfectly, and the bit of kimchi in the ramen gave the bowl a nice kick. The dish is a decent portion size, with a lot of meat and noodles. Just be wary of its sneaky spiciness. Karaage Taiwanese style “Gee Pie” ($9.00) This dish is a five-spice marinated chicken breast and includes a choice of curry spice or beijun spice. Morimoto Gee Pie Honestly, we were a bit underwhelmed by this dish. The chicken was well-cooked, but very much on the bland side. Now, it does come with the bowls of spices to put on the chicken — the curry one has a very strong curry flavor and the beijun spice has a sweet note and chili note in it — but both of the spices are very heavy on the salt, but neither really saves the chicken form the overall lack of flavor. The spices aren’t enough. Korean Corn Dog ($8.00) The corn dog dish offers a beef hot dog, mozzarella cheese, panko bread crumbs with sriracha ketchup, and honey mustard. Corn Dog! We found this corn dog offering very interesting. We almost found it to be 1/3rd mozzarella stick, 1/3rd third hot dog, and then 1/3rd second mozzarella stick. Yet somehow it worked for the most part. There’s A LOT going on here It came dusted in sugar so it ended up being very sweet, almost too sweet, but the honey mustard added a good tang to the corn dog and balanced it out. BBQ Pork Bao ($6.00) This take on the classic doesn’t mess with the form too much. It’s braised pork in a soft steamed bun. Bao Bun The bun is super fluffy and tastes very yeasty, while the pork inside is chopped up and has a sweet sauce on it. We liked the bun, and it would be a good size for a snack. However, it’s not enough to make a whole meal, and probably not something we would go out of our way to head to Morimoto Asia Street Food just for this. Pork We would definitely get that pork bun again, and fans of spice should head over to try that new ramen! In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more new eats around Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more food reviews. Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Some people call Disney’s Animal Kingdom a “half-day park,” but we tend to think those people are wrong. Animal Kingdom There is SO much to see and do at Animal Kingdom, and while it may not have as many rides as other Disney World parks, you’ll still find no shortage of entertainment, animals, shopping, and of course — snacks. We spotted a new menu item at one quick-service spot in Animal Kingdom, so you know we had to grab it and bring you our review! We headed on over to Pizzafari at Animal Kingdom to try the new Chicken Parmesan with Gnocchi Primavera for $13.29. This dish consists of breaded chicken parmesan breast layered on baked potato gnocchi in primavera tomato sauce topped with melted provolone and mozzarella. Sounds pretty darn delicious. Pizzafari Okay, let’s just start off by saying this dish definitely tastes better than it looks. The gnocchi tastes like the kind you can buy in the packages at the grocery store, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Ours actually had a fairly good texture, the dumplings were slightly chewy yet still soft. The garlic toast is essentially the Texas toast you can buy in the grocery store, too. It didn’t taste very fresh and was definitely not a shining moment of this dish. Chicken Parmesan with Gnocchi Primavera The chicken was actually pretty juicy and we loved all the melted cheese on top! There was actually a decent amount of chicken in this dish, and while nothing special it isn’t bad for quick-service chicken parmesan. The breading-to-chicken ratio was good, but the breading made it taste kind of like chicken tenders. The chicken is a good thickness for chicken parmesan. Unfortunately, the tomato sauce was pretty one note, it just tasted like tomato and is a bit on the sweet side for us. Not as bad as it looks There were few veggies in ours, but the piece of squash we did have was tender but pretty flavorless. Overall, it wasn’t the greatest thing we have ever eaten, but for quick service, it wasn’t bad. It is a more unique dish than chicken tenders or a hamburger, and we would say it’s definitely kid-friendly. There’s no spice at all, just lots of tomato and cheese flavor with a kind of chicken tender on top. It was alright! We’re always on the hunt for the best new eats around Disney World… but this one probably isn’t it. Are you a fan of Disney Cruise Line? We know we are! Shocking, we know. Disney Cruise Ship But, if you haven’t been on a Disney cruise yet (or maybe it’s been a while) now is a great time to consider setting sail. Not only are two new, massive cruise ships on the horizon for Disney, but one of the cruise line’s older ships will be getting a bit of a makeover soon. Disney just announced a ton of updates for one cruise ship and we’re sharing everything we know! Exciting new upgrades are coming to the Disney Dream cruise ship this fall! The ship has been in Europe this summer getting a bit of a refresh and Disney just announced what we can expect when the Dream arrives at its home port in Fort Lauderdale. Let’s check it all out! The Disney Dream First things first, the Kids Oceaneer Club will have an all-new MARVEL Worldwide Engineering Brigade, or “WEB” for short. Here, kids can “test new suit prototypes for Spider-Man and other heroes and conduct training simulations using WEB technology to fend off enemies from the Workshop.” ©Disney Edge, the tween club for ages 11-14, has been moved to Deck 5 and will have access to an outdoor deck with a ball pit and recreational games. Oh, and there will be a club lounge and dance floor as well! The forward funnel of the Dream will be transformed into the Dream Tower Suite, themed to the classic film, Fantasia and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” Disney shared that “this spectacular suite will immerse guests in Sorcerer Mickey’s magic, including celestial-inspired surroundings, carpet design inspired by flowing water, and a chandelier reminiscent of his famous control of the waves.” ©Disney And, there will be a new, expanded Concierge Lounge inspired by Disney’s Hercules and Mount Olympus. The lounge will have “light, airy details and rich colors inspired by the clouds of Mount Olympus, with hints of bright gold evoking the gates to the kingdom of the gods.” The spa will also have a “refreshed check-in area” with new treatment rooms, and Deck 11 will feature a new cantina! ©Disney And, in other Disney Cruise Line news, we recently learned that, Disney is changing the all-aboard time on Disney Magic cruises sailing out of Port Canaveral and Fort Lauderdale this fall from 4:00PM to 3:00PM. The email read in part, “The All Aboard time for your sailing has recently changed from 4:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. All Guests must be onboard by 3:00 p.m. Guests arriving after 3:00 p.m. or without proper citizenship documentation will be denied boarding.” Disney Dream You can read more at the link below! Bob Iger has been very busy since taking over as CEO of The Walt Disney Company for the second time in 2022. ©Disney Since then, he’s announced his #1 priority for the company (streaming), as well as announced some future movie and Disney Parks projects (which will invest $60 billion in the parks over the next ten years). He even announced a mega sports streaming service that would bring sports content from ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). Now, Iger and his wife, Willow Bay, are teaming up to purchase a professional soccer team. According to Variety, Bay, the dean of the University of Southern California’s journalism school, and Iger, Disney CEO, are near a more than $50 million deal that would give them a controlling stake in Los Angeles’ Angel City FC pro women’s soccer team. ©Angel City FC This deal would make Angel City FC, one of 14 teams in the U.S. National Women’s Soccer League. If the deal goes through, Bay and Iger would replace Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian (and husband of Serena Williams) as the team’s controlling shareholders. The investment from Bay and Iger would value the team at $300 million. ©Disney Angel City FC currently has three co-founding partners, including actor Natalie Portman, tech investor Kara Nortman, and entertainment executive Julie Uhrman (who is the club’s current president). There are also an additional 100 investors in the team, including celebrities like Serena Williams, Jennifer Garner, and Eva Longoria. The Genie+ system in Disney World is changing in a BIG way soon! New Lightning Lane changes are coming Genie+ is the skip-the-line service in Disney World. Visitors pay for the service — which costs anywhere from $15 to $39 per day, depending on the season and demand — and can then use it to reserve Lightning Lanes throughout the day. When their reservation time arrives, they skip the standby line and use the Lightning Lane instead, which means a lower wait time. Genie+ has been in place since 2021, and now (almost three years after its initial debut) a BUNCH of changes are coming. We’ve been learning about the new system, which will be called Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and we’ve discovered one huge PROBLEM. First, let’s check out what’s changing with Disney World’s skip-the-line system. BIG Changes Are Coming Soon The Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane services are changing on July 24th, 2024. Starting on that day, Genie+ will be called Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and Individual Lightning Lanes will be called Lightning Lane Single Pass. ©Disney Starting on the 24th, you’ll be able to make Lightning Lane plans BEFORE your trip begins. When you purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you can make up to three Lightning Lane selections ahead of your trip. Note that all three of those selections must be for rides in the same park (you can’t make two in one park and one in a different park, for example). When the day of your visit arrives, you can make more Lightning Lane reservations based on what’s still available on the My Disney Experience app. You’ll be able to have three reservations at a time, so once you use up one of the three that you made ahead of your trip, you can book another one, and then continue to do that throughout the day. ©Disney Lightning Lane Single Pass will essentially work the same way as Individual Lightning Lanes do now, but starting on the 24th, you’ll be able to purchase these Lightning Lanes in advance. ©Disney If you’re staying at a Disney World hotel (or one of the select good neighbor hotels) for your trip, you can make those Lightning Lane reservations up to seven days in advance for your entire stay (up to 14 days). So, say you are visiting from September 10th through the 14th. You can make Lightning Lane reservations for the entire trip (all five days) on September 3rd because that’s seven days before the first day of your trip. Everyone else can make their plans up to three days in advance. You can get either Multi Pass or Single Pass or choose to use both. ©Disney Along with these changes, Disney has brought back the ride tier systems. Rides in each park are divided into one of two tiers. When you make Lightning Lane reservations as part of the Multi Pass service, you get to pick up to one ride from the first tier and two rides from the second tier. You can choose to pick three rides from the second tier instead if you don’t want to go on any of the first-tier rides. Lightning Lane at Expedition Everest The only park that does not have ride tiers is Animal Kingdom, which means you can choose any of the Lightning Lanes in that park as part of your three selections. Avatar: Flight of Passage is still considered an Individual Lightning Lane, A.K.A. Lightning Lane Single Pass. But There’s One Thing MISSING Disney shared a list of Lightning Lanes that are part of the Multi Pass Experience and which tier each falls into. But when we looked through the lists for each park, we noticed that character meet-and-greets are NOT included. Right now, there are a few character meet-and-greet attractions that have Lightning Lanes and are currently part of Genie+, but they’re not listed as being part of Disney’s new Multi Pass service. Ariel in Magic Kingdom Here’s a list of Magic Kingdom Lightning Lanes that will be part of the Multi Pass Experience: ©Disney The following attractions do have Lightning Lanes and are part of Genie+ now, but they’re not on the list for the new Multi Pass service: Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade Enchanted Tales with Belle Meet Ariel at Her Grotto Meet Cinderella and a Visiting Princess at Princess Fairytale Hall Meet Mickey at Town Square Theater Meet Princess Tiana and a Visiting Princess at Princess Fairytale Hall Cinderella Here are the Multi Pass experiences for EPCOT: ©Disney The only one missing from this list is the “Meet Beloved Disney Pals at Mickey & Friends” attraction. This is the character meet-and-greet spot inside CommuniCore Hall. The Main Mouse Here’s a list of the Hollywood Studios Multi Pass attractions: ©Disney Missing from this list is the Olaf meet-and-greet at Celebrity Spotlight. Olaf! Animal Kingdom Multi Pass attractions are listed here: ©Disney For this park, we’re missing Meet Favorite Disney Pals at Adventurers Outpost and The Animation Experience at Conservation Station. Mickey and Minnie in Animal Kingdom So what’s going on here? Will the Lightning Lanes for the character meet-and-greets be going away? Or will Disney add those experiences into the new service before it debuts on July 24th? We don’t have answers yet, but we’ll be watching for updates. For now, if you’re planning a visit to Disney World after July 24th and meeting characters is a priority for you, make sure to head to those experiences first (at rope drop) or watch the wait times in the app to find a time to go when the lines aren’t too long. It’s a holiday week — and you know what that means! Disney World is about to get all red, white, and blue for the 4th of July. Sleepy Hollow That means we’re seeing some red, white, and blue decor up in Magic Kingdom, and we’re getting ready to dive into some delicious 4th of July snacks that are well, red, white, and blue (you see where we’re going with this, right?). Well, Sleepy Hollow Refreshments in Liberty Square is appropriately serving up a red, white, and blue snack RIGHT NOW, so we’re checking it out. So we’ll warn you now: Sleepy Hollow has been serving up disappointment since it got rid of our favorite waffle sandwiches, so we’re already still a little ticked off at this food spot. But we still ordered the Red, White, and Blue Funnel Cake — for science! It’s a funnel cake topped with mixed berries, vanilla ice cream, and festive sprinkles for $8.29. Y’all, this thing looks sad (we bet it misses the waffles, too). Red, White, and Blue Funnel Cake Obviously, a big problem in serving up a hot funnel cake topped with ice cream and whipped cream IN THE SUMMER in Florida is going to look like a disaster pretty quickly because of melting. That probably explains why most funnel cakes are usually topped with powdered sugar or syrups that don’t melt. Anyway, we LOVE funnel cake, we do. But this one…is NOT IT. It’s MMMMEEELLLTTTIIIINNNG Everything about it is just fine, but the berries are not fresh, nor did they taste sweet enough. The funnel cake was fresh and hot and fried to a nice level of crispiness, but it also lacked flavor. So you’ve got flavorless berries on top of a flavorless funnel cake. It’s a no from us. This might’ve been better with powdered sugar instead of ice cream. That’s a sad strawberry We also picked up the Red, White, and Brownie for $5.69. It’s a red velvet-brown butter brownie with cream cheese icing, graham streusel, and caramel. Does that sound rich? Because IT IS. It’s exactly the OPPOSITE of the funnel cake because it’s loaded with sugary flavor. It is a heavy dense brownie that pairs great with the light cream cheese frosting. Plus it’s festive! Red, White, and Brownie We didn’t think the graham cracker streusel or the caramel drizzle really added anything. We do prefer more chocolate flavor than most of Disney’s red velvet snacks offer, and that’s the case here. We’ll also say that its size is deceiving: it might look small, but it’s so rich that we DARE you to finish it in one sitting. Look at how DENSE this thing is We picked up the brownie at Riverside Mill Food Court at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside, but it’s also available at: Intermission Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort End Zone Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort Landscape of Flavors at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort Centertown Market at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort Spyglass Grill at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort Everything POP Shopping & Dining at Disney’s Pop Century Resort Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter If you’re staying at any of those hotels, it’s a nice seasonal snack, but we don’t think it’s worth traveling across Disney World to get. Getting around Disney World using its modes of transportation might sometimes feel like it requires certification of its own. Knowing all the ins and outs of when to take the bus, the ferryboat, the monorail, or even when it’s most advantageous to call for a Minnie Van, can feel like it’s all too much to someone who’s not as well versed. ©Disney Now imagine being the bus drivers of these buses shuttling folks to and from the Disney World hotels, parks, and Disney Springs. If you’ve ever asked yourself what else they might want to tell you, we’ve come up with a list that might help spark a conversation or two on your next trip! We bet there are tons of things that Disney World bus drivers would like to tell folks who board their buses day in and day out. Most of which probably are short and sweet, but we’re pretty confident that there are a few they wouldn’t mind the masses knowing. The bus is here! If you’re planning a Disney World Vacation soon that might involve you spending some time on a bus to and from your destinations during your vacation, there are a few things we think you outta know in advance. They Hear It ALL! It’s true — the good, bad, and the ugly. They’re silently celebrating along with you as you look fondly over the pictures you just took or recount your plans as you arrive for the day. They’re also probably blaming the heat and exhaustion for the massive blow-up between your family as you were boarding and trying to fit everyone inside. ©Disney That also means they’ve heard about all the strange, unusual, and typically TMI things you probably wouldn’t just come right out and tell a public stranger. But don’t worry, they’re not here to judge — but what you’ve just verbalized might make them want to chuckle to themselves a bit. Your Stroller Might Not Make It They see you strategizing, turning, and yanking on that stroller that JUST won’t budge. And believe us when we say, they’re pretty good at spotting this a mile away by now. Your bus driver probably won’t say much in the way to add to your frustrations of getting the stroller to fit long enough to lug it up the short steps and turn to move it just enough out of the way, but if they do — heed their sage advice! Crowds boarding the bus at the TTC They’ve been around long enough to pick up a few tips and tricks along the way that could help salvage your sanity and save you unnecessary trouble throughout the remainder of your visit. You Probably Should Have Thought That Souvenir Purchase Through First You know that super cute balloon you just HAD to get for your little one? Is it still just as cute when it’s bopping you in the face on the bus? Trust us when we say there are a few souvenirs they’re going to wish you’d thought on just a little bit harder before purchasing! Disney World balloons This goes for lots of things, though! Light-up spinning toys, pesky floating balloons, and those ever-cherished musical bubble wands (you know, the kind that starts the song ALL over again when you let go of the button and press it again), are all purchases that (if asked) your bus driver could have a few tips for stowing until you reached your destination, or advised you to wait until your last day to purchase. You Might Not Always Know What’s Closest… & That’s OK This might not apply to everyone — but it’s definitely an “if you know, you KNOW” situation. Sometimes, Disney World hotels are just so large, that your arriving bus may make several stops around your hotel. Trust us when we say we’ve been here before and we were SOOOO tempted to step off, get out of the crowded bus, and start our trek back to our room, BUT, we’re telling you there’s nothing wrong with waiting for something closer. A Saratoga Springs Treehouse Villa It’s tempting to think you’re “close enough” or just be so exhausted you want to get your walk over with and misjudge the distance. Our best advice here is to ask your bus driver about which stop is closest to your building, shortening your walk back to your room for the evening. No, They Can’t Just Stop Right Here For You Ok seriously — this shouldn’t even be a thing but it’s something we hear asked of Disney World bus drivers ALL THE TIME! The short answer is no, they can’t just drop you off at a destination of your choice that’s different from its intended destination. Crowded bus Disney World bus drivers are given specific instructions to only depart and arrive at their predetermined destinations. So while it’s very close to the hotel where your dining reservation is located, they HAVE to drop you off at the intended Disney World park at the designated bus station. Is The Bus Really Your Best Choice? You might think you know your way around Disney World, but there’s a chance you might not know it as well as you thought you did. Skyliner If you were to ask your bus driver, they might tell you that based on your destination, you’ll make better time taking a different mode of transportation like the monorail, skyliner, or boat. General Courtesy Rules It should go without saying, but when at Disney World, there are TONS of folks who let general courtesy fall to the wayside. Everyone on? If you’re boarding a Disney World bus, it’s always understood that everyone should continue to follow Disney World rules, regulations, policies, and transportation guidelines for health and safety. Allowing your kids to run amuck up and down the aisleway isn’t a great idea, let alone while the bus is in motion. And, while it’s not a rule, it’s still a nice gesture to offer your seat if you’re in good health to those who might appreciate it more like the elderly, disabled, and those who are pregnant or with smaller (probably sleeping) children in their arms. It’s typically not as safe for these folks to be standing while on the buses, and will score you big brownie points with your bus driver if the situation ever calls for a quick switcheroo! Ahoy Disney Cruise Line passengers! Disney Cruise Ship If you’re planning to set sail on a Disney Cruise later this year, be forewarned that a seemingly minor change could have a MAJOR impact on your sailing if you don’t plan accordingly. Later this fall, the Disney Cruise Line is changing their all-aboard time for select cruises. For those unfamiliar with cruising vernacular, all-aboard Time is pretty much exactly what it sounds like: The designated time by which all passengers must be on board the ship before departure from its home port. Disney’s all-aboard time for most sailings has been 4:00PM for the most part. Until this coming September that is. According to emails sent to those who’ve booked Disney Cruises out of Port Canaveral and Fort Lauderdale this fall, Disney is changing that all-aboard time to 3:00PM. The email read in part, “The All Aboard time for your sailing has recently changed from 4:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. All Guests must be onboard by 3:00 p.m. Guests arriving after 3:00 p.m. or without proper citizenship documentation will be denied boarding.” Set Sail with Disney Pals! The Disney Cruise Line went on to stress that passengers with independent flight arrangements — IE those booked themselves and not as part of a larger Disney travel package — may wish to check the Disney Cruise Line website for the “recommended flight-time guidelines for their departure.” In other words, Disney will NOT wait for those flying into Orlando on their own flights, so make sure you have AMPLE time to make it to the port in time. Despite this time change, the process will remain similar to what cruisers are used to. Beginning 30 days before your trip, you can begin an online check-in process that, according to Disney, “will streamline your port arrival experience. As part of this process, you will need to submit the required citizenship documents as well as select a Port Arrival Time. Online Check-in can be completed or modified up to one day prior to sailing.” Checking in one more time Looking at the Disney Cruise Line’s itineraries for September 2004 sees the Disney Magic sailing from Fort Lauderdale and the Disney Wish sailing from Port Canaveral, which means that its sailings on those two ships are affected by these all-aboard time changes. Disney is banking on these changes not being too big a deal for most cruise passengers, writing “We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause. It is our hope that Guests will enjoy getting their sailing underway an hour.” We’re on the Disney Wish! While Disney’s tweak to all aboard time is just making them an hour earlier, this tiny change can have a large butterfly effect on your Disney Cruise if you don’t adequately plan accordingly. Y’all. We’ve seen some things in Disney World. Sometimes they’re wonderful things, sometimes they’re terrifying things, but yeah…we’ve seen THINGS. Kisses from Donald! For example, you’ve got those wonderful Cast Member moments that just make your day that much more magical. Or there’s that moment when you see a character just living its best life. On the other side of things, it’s that one time you accidentally make eye contact with Caesar as you’re exiting Tower of Terror (if you know, you know) or find yourself in one of the creepiest parts of a park. Well, we’ve looked over some of our photos, and we wanted to share some of things we’ve seen that left their marks on us. Back in April of 2023, during a performance of Fantasmic! in Disneyland, the beloved Maleficent dragon caught on fire. And, not like a small fire, like a MASSIVE FIRE. All guests were evacuated from the area and no one was hurt, but Fantasmic! closed in the park until May 2024. Disney has not rebuilt the dragon and has instead made adjustments to the show, but you can still see the dragon in Disney World! 50th Anniversary Octopus Drink During Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, the parks introduced 150 new food and drink offerings. Some of them were wonderful and beloved, but others…well, others were Octopus Drinks. Squid’s Revenge…yeah this was a weird one. It was located in Be Our Guest Restaurant in Magic Kingdom (of all places??) and was called Squid’s Revenge. Let’s just say it went about as well as you might expect. Read our full review of it here! This Animatronic Lost Its HAND This one gives us shivers every time we have to look at the photo so YOU’RE WELCOME, we’re suffering for you. During a ride on Carousel of Progress in 2020 (it was a rough year for everyone, okay?), we noticed that *sigh* poor John the animatronic was missing his hand. Give this animatronic a hand! He was doing a very good(ish) job of getting that Christmas turkey done though, so we were impressed! If only that darn oven wouldn’t overheat on him every time. Plant Donald Now this one is just hilarious. In early January 2021, during a ride on Gran Fiesta Tour, we noticed the animatronic of Donald had not only disappeared, but he had been replaced! …with a PLANT. Mr. Donald Plant Yes, it’s still just as funny now. The best part? They put a sombrero on the plant, almost as if to trick guests that a plant with a sombrero was DEFINITELY supposed to be there. Yep. Donald? Who’s Donald? It’s always been a plant. (If you’re traveling soon, don’t worry, actual Donald is back!) New Year’s Crowds If you think you’ve seen bad crowds in Disney World, allow us to show you a photo that will make you rethink your definition of the word. The holiday season is usually the busiest time of the year in Disney World, and that means Christmas AS WELL AS New Year’s! Take a look at what crowds looked like New Eve day in 2021. HELP And this was EVERYWHERE. All the parks, every section — you couldn’t move without bumping shoulders, and trying to stick with your party was HARD. We know that Disney World during the holidays is more than beautiful, and we love it too, but be prepared for HUGE crowds. It’s our job to be in the parks on even the busiest days — here’s our secret! We’re always here to not only keep you updated on all the latest Disney news, but also tell you entertaining stories like these, so stay tuned to DFB! If you’ve ever tried to book a flight to Disney World, you probably know that your options change all the time. One day, a Southwest Airlines flight to Orlando Airport may be pretty inexpensive; the next day, that same flight may cost an extra $100. It’s hard to keep up! Orlando International Airport But that’s why we’re here to help! We keep track of the new flight routes to Disney World and monitor the airlines that halt their service to MCO. That way, you know exactly what your options are before you book your flight. While we’re on the subject, we have some important news to share about a popular budget airline. Let’s take a look. Have you ever flown with Avelo Airlines? This low-cost airline offers some great deals on nonstop flights to 49 destinations, but we have an update on one popular route. ©Avelo Avelo Airlines confirmed that they will NOT offer service from Dubuque Regional Airport to Orlando International Airport in 2024. The airport, located in Dubuque County, Iowa, will not be included in Avelo’s 2024 flight schedule, per local ABC News affiliate KCRG. ©Avelo Airlines In January, Avelo Airlines announced that it would pause the Dubuque to Orlando route, with plans to resume operations in November 2024. But now, it looks like that route will not resume this year. Despite Dubuque Regional Airport Manager Todd Dalsing’s statement that “The Orlando flights Avelo offered were very popular, running very strong load factors during core travel periods,” it seems like travelers will need to use another airline to get to Orlando. Orlando Airport If you’re planning a trip to Disney World, we have a few tips about traveling through the Orlando Airport. First, make sure to check those security wait times before arriving at the airport. You can visit the Orlando Airport website to see the current estimated wait times for each terminal. ©Orlando Airport Additionally, we suggest taking a look at MCO Reserve. It’s a FREE system that can help you avoid long lines at security. We’ve tried and tested the service and can confirm it makes a BIG difference. ©Orlando International Airport The lines at the Orlando Airport can get VERY long depending on the time of your flight, so do yourself a favor and research MCO Reserve before your trip to see if it’s worth trying! The AMAZING, FREE Service You’re Not Using at Orlando Airport We’ll be sure to keep our eyes out for additional airport updates. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. But it just keeps getting delayed, doesn’t it? Passport We get it. The idea of filling out paperwork, mailing in documents, etc. might just be too much to handle right now. It’d be more fun to watch Inside Out 2 or grab some Starbucks instead, right? But what if we told you that renewing your passport could be a few CLICKS away with a simpler process? It might just be, but you’ll need to know all the rules! Here’s the main thing you need to know — Some eligible U.S. citizens can renew their passports online now through a beta system but it’s only available for a limited amount of hours each day during the beta release! They are preparing for a full launch of the updated online passport renewal system at some point in the future but it’s not clear when, so you’ll want to act now (if you’re eligible). Back in 2022, the U.S. Department of State tested out a pilot program for renewing your passport online that was also very limited. Now it seems like the testing is back and it could be a GAME-CHANGER. Get Ready to Travel Think of the convenience — no need to mail in your documents, just fill out all of the necessary things online! But you do need to meet certain requirements to be eligible for this service, it’s all in a beta test for now (i.e. not in final form), AND only a limited amount of applications are allowed each day. (A.k.a. there are some caveats.) So how does it work? Let’s go through it. First: Make sure you meet the requirements To renew your passport online, you need to meet a multitude of requirements including that your passport is or was valid for 10 years and you’re age 25 or older, you’re not changing your name, you’re not traveling internationally for at least 8 weeks from the date you submit your application, and more. Check out the full list of requirements below: ©U.S. Department of State If you don’t meet those requirements, you may be able to renew by mail or at a passport agency, so just keep that in mind. Second: Make your account Once you’ve confirmed that you meet the requirements, the next step is to make an account. You’ll visit the MyTravelGov homepage, click “sign in” (which will take you to Login.gov), and then sign in (if you already have an account) or create an account. You can check out the video below about creating your account. Third: Start your application After creating your account, you’ll want to click on the “Renew Your Passport” button on the home page to start your application. Here’s where things can get a little tricky, so BE WARNED. The State Department cautions that during the next several months they’ll be limiting the number of daily online passport renewal applications that can be done. According to the State Department’s website, “The system will open for a limited midday eastern time window each day, and will close once we reach our limit for the day. If we have reached the daily limit, you will need to wait to start your application.” Planning a Trip? So, they warn, “You may not be able to start your application on the day of your choice.” The state advises: “If you are unable to start your application, try again on another day.” The good news is you can save your application online and finish it at a later date if you need to. You actually have 30 days to complete your application once you start it. BUT if you don’t finish it within those 30 days, you’ll need to start over, so keep that in mind. Orlando International Airport Again, it appears this system will be in place for the next few months while they test things out and “prepare for a full launch of the updated online passport renewal system” so know this going in. Fourth: Enter the info about your passport At this point, the U.S. Department of State starts to check the passport you’re renewing against their records to see if you can renew online. So, what you’ll need to do is enter the information as it was printed on the passport you’re renewing. Remember that the system is in a beta test form, so they warn that they might experience “temporary, technical issues.” If for some reason it gives you an error and you believe you should be able to renew online, try entering your information again. According to their website, “If you are not eligible to renew online, the application will give you a list of reasons. Double check your information before re-entering it.” Airplane A few things to keep in mind: make sure your most recent passport was valid for 10 years, and double-check the spelling of your name carefully. See more about these things below. ©U.S. Department of State Also, make sure you’re trying to renew something that is eligible. Specifically, you can renew passport books and passport cards online. ©U.S. Department of State You can check out the video below for more info about entering the information from your previous passport. Fifth: Enter your travel plans If you are traveling internationally in less than 8 weeks, you cannot renew online, so be sure to look at your upcoming travel plans carefully. If you need your passport in 3-8 weeks, you can get expedited service and renew by mail. If you’re on a tighter schedule and need your passport in LESS than 3 weeks, you’ll need to make an appointment to renew your passport in person (you can do this at a passport agency or center). City at night If you live in Orlando (or other select cities) there might be some good news for you in the future when it comes to renewing your passport in person (should you need to do that). According to a U.S. Department of State press release, the U.S. will be opening 6 NEW passport agencies in the future. These new offices will be located in Salt Lake City, UT; Kansas City, MO; Orlando, FL; Charlotte, NC; San Antonio, TX; and Cincinnati, OH. What’s great about these spots is they’ll provide “service to travelers with urgent travel needs.” According to WESH 2 News, U.S. congressman Maxwell Frost has said the Orlando office might take up to a year to be created and open, but he’s hoping they can move things faster (if possible). So, that won’t help you right now but could help in the future. Six: Upload a digital photo The next step in the online renewal process is to upload a digital photo. This must be “an original, digital photo in .JPEG file format.” No selfies are allowed, so you’ll need to get the help of a friend or family member to take your photo. And they warn you NOT to scan the photo or take a photo of an already printed photo. There is an entire webpage dedicated to getting the right photo, and you can watch the video below to learn more. Seven: Sign and pay Finally, it’s time to pay the passport fees. You’ll do this through pay.gov. You can use a credit or debit card, or you can use an ACH (Automated Clearing House payment) to transfer funds from your bank account. Just be aware that “processing an ACH payment may take longer than a credit or debit card.” You’ll get a few different emails about the status of your payment, so be on the lookout for that and remember to check your spam or junk folders (just in case). Once you’re done with the application you DO need to keep the passport you’re renewing on hand. Do NOT mail it to the Department of State or try to use it to travel (because they’ll cancel it). Eight: Enroll in email updates Once you pay for the passport you’ll get an email confirming payment is pending and then you’ll get another email once they confirm that they’ve received the payment. One week after you apply, it’s suggested that you go to the “Online Passport Status System to enroll in more email updates about the status of your application.” Once you do this, you’ll get notifications about when the renewal application is in process and approved, and when your passport is being sent. You’ll also get notifications if they need more information to process your application. And there you have it — a detailed look at this process! Again, this will only be available for limited quantities each day so keep that in mind and take advantage while you can (or be on the lookout for a full launch!).
