Are you heading to Disney World this month? Driving to Disney World So many new offerings have opened up this summer, such as CommuniCore Hall and Plaza in EPCOT and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom. Plus, the Country Bear Jamboree will open very soon, on July 17th, with a brand new show! Now seems like the perfect time to visit Disney World to experience these new offerings! But if you’re going soon, watch out for an upcoming road closure that might impact traffic near the parks. If you are planning to travel to and/or from Disney World via a car or rideshare, an upcoming road closure could impact traffic and possibly cause delays. LONG wait to park According to ClickOrlando, the I-4 ramp to Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando will be closed on two weekends in July. The Northbound exit will be closed from July 18th to the 22nd and July 25th through the 29th. The exit will be closed from 10PM on July 18th until 5AM on July 22nd. The exit will close again at 10PM on July 25th and reopen at 5AM on July 29th. ©ClickOrlando.com This exit is being closed for concrete work to take place. Traffic will be redirected with electronic message boards and other signs. Driving in Florida While this exit does not lead into Disney World, it is still good to know if you plan on traveling around Orlando, as it could cause delays due to detours and possible confusion. Light the lights and start playing “All I Want for Christmas Is You” — it’s time to talk about the holiday season! Magic Kingdom during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! We know, it’s probably the last thing you’re thinking about with the warm summer weather and Halloween around the corner first. However, Disney World just released a TON of information about the winter holiday season including dates for the 2024 EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, info for Jollywood Nights (yes, this controversial event is returning), and details for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. The last two are separately ticketed events that happen after the park closes, so if you’re planning to go, you’ll need to prepare to buy tickets. That time is coming up soon — like very soon — because tickets are about to open up to ALL visitors! On July 2nd, tickets for both Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Jollywood Nights became available to purchase…for hotel guests only visiting on those dates. However, TOMORROW (July 10th), tickets go on sale for everybody! It’s SANTA! Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party takes place in Magic Kingdom on certain nights from November 8th to December 20th, 2024 (see the full list of dates right here). Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party 2023! The exclusive party features shows, like Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration, Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, and the Holiday Fireworks spectacular: Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks. This is along with dance parties like Club Tinsel and Disney Junior Jingle Jam. Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks There’s more where that came from! CONFIRMED: Everything Returning to the 2024 Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in Magic Kingdom On the other hand, Jollywood Nights is a new holiday event that kicked off at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2023 and will run on certain dates from November 9th to December 21st. Disney Jollywood Nights (2023) It was a holiday event unlike any other Disney had created so far…but it quickly became controversial based on fan feedback. There will be some changes this year, though, with new characters and a SKATING. SPECTACULAR. It will be interesting to see if these changes win over the public after a not-so-great debut last year. Phineas and Ferb at Jollywood Nights Some of the highlights we experienced last year include exclusive entertainment (like the Holidays in Hollywood show featuring the Muppets!), the Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! nighttime fireworks and projections spectacular, exclusive treats, and more! Everything CONFIRMED for the 2024 Jollywood Nights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Based on what we’ve seen with Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, we don’t expect tickets to go super quickly. However, it’s better to buy early if you know which date you want to go because, well, you never know! There’s a NEW ride in Disney World! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Tiana’s Bayou Adventure recently opened in Magic Kingdom, and it has been pretty popular since, with fans flocking to the ride to see how Disney overhauled Splash Mountain with a Princess and the Frog theme. To help manage some of those crowds, Disney decided to operate Tiana’s Bayou Adventure with a virtual queue. But what happens if you’re LATE for your return time? We tested it out! To catch you up a little, there are currently two ways to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure — you can either join the free virtual queue through the My Disney Experience app, or you can book a Lightning Lane through the paid Genie+ service (which is, coincidentally, changing on July 24th). Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Lightning Land and virtual queue line But for the purposes of this article, we’re going to focus on that first method — the virtual queue. The virtual queue opens up twice per day, at 7AM and 1PM, and it typically fills up FAST. (The morning queue is usually gone within seconds and the afternoon queue may be almost that popular as well.) So if you’re planning on trying to ride by joining the queue, you’ll want to set alarms on your phone to make sure you don’t miss those drops. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure If you make it into the queue, you’ll be assigned a boarding group number. The boarding groups are then called back in numerical order, so it may take a few hours before you get “called” to the ride. It’s a good idea to have your notifications turned on for the My Disney Experience app so that you don’t miss your turn. From the moment your boarding group is called, you have one hour to make your way to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and get in the queue. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure queue This is where things get tricky — what if you’re late? What if you have a dining reservation or you did some Park Hopping and it’s going to take a while to get to the ride? Or what if you don’t have a reason for being late at all? Will they still let you in? We endeavored to find out. Tiana on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure We sent two of our reporters to try being late on different days and see what happened. Both times, they returned well after their 1-hour return window had passed, and attempted to scan into the queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. And both times, our reporters were let in the queue without question, even though they were late. On the ride Now, keep in mind that just because it happened to us twice, doesn’t mean that it’s Disney’s official policy. It’s possible that this could vary depending on the day, the crowd levels, or even the Cast Member who’s operating the entrance. Ultimately, though, we do have a bit of hope that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will be more flexible with return times. New outfits! You see, when Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind opened with a virtual queue in EPCOT, we were able to scan into the ride HOURS later than our return time without penalty — and that happened over and over. But then, TRON Lightcycle / Run opened last year in Magic Kingdom with a much stricter policy. We went on to discover that the reason TRON was so strict is because the ride lights up at night, leading many to believe that it was better to ride in the evening. Because of this, Disney had to crack down on the return time for that ride specifically so that people didn’t crowd the queue after dark. TRON queue However, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure doesn’t offer any distinct advantage or difference when riding in the evening, so it makes sense that they can be more flexible with this ride. We’ll see if that changes in the future, but for now, we’d recommend trying it out anyway if you’re accidentally late for your queue. It doesn’t hurt to ask just in case! Have you ever dreamed of living at Disney World? We will take a room in the Castle, please! Well, for some people, that dream is a reality at Disney World’s private neighborhood, Golden Oak. Now, that spot, which is owned by Four Seasons, is expanding its development! According to the Four Seasons, the Golden Oak homes feature “exceptional service and unparalleled resort-style living.” These homes are known for having Disney touches like a Tower of Terror-themed elevator in one and a Millennium Falcon-inspired home theater in another! The original Golden Oak neighborhood started building in 2010, and now, even more new homes are being added to a new Private Residences development! ©Golden Oak Realty The new development will feature 40 homes, 31 units in a mid-rise tower, and nine attached boutique homes. Sales are expected to begin in late 2024 and will be offered exclusively by Golden Oak Realty. Construction has already started on the residential tower and the boutique homes! They are expected to be completed in early 2026. ©Golden Oak The same firm that designed the Four Seasons Orlando Resort (HKS) designed the new mid-rise tower, which will have a similar design to the resort’s Spanish Revival style. Each unit will have an open floor plan, premium fixtures, and floor-to-ceiling windows, along with a private veranda. A variety of floor plans will be available, including one-story floor plans that feature three to four bedrooms and two-story, four-bedroom penthouses. Golden Oak Bus Stop at Disney’s Hollywood Studios The boutique homes, which are nine attached units grouped into four buildings connected by breezeways, were designed by Cooper Cary and will be built in the French Moderne architectural style. Four different floor plans featuring four to five bedrooms will be available. Each home will have a covered patio, pool, and even an outdoor kitchen! Those living here will be able to access all the amenities that will be offered at the residential tower. Golden Oak Security The best part? The Golden Oak neighborhood is about four miles away from Magic Kingdom, allowing residents to live close to the magic of Disney World! Those residing in Golden Oak can experience Disney services and amenities through the Golden Oak Club, which “offers access to enriching events, select concierge-style services, a private clubhouse with dining options, fitness center, pool, Walt Disney World Resort theme park transportation services, premiere Disney-designed experiences and more.” @Zillow When sales start, only a limited number of units, boutique homes, and houses will be available. We just found a very good reason to stop by Starbucks tomorrow, July 10th! Starbucks in Disney Springs Starbucks has announced that they’re giving away FREE reusable straws for one day only! Here’s how to get a freebie when you visit tomorrow. Starbucks is celebrating the summer season by giving away limited-edition reusable straws! ©Starbucks To get one, you need to order any cold handcrafted drink on July 10th. You can order in person, on the Starbucks app, or through Starbucks delivery with DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Grubhub. ©Starbucks Some of the current cold handcrafted drinks that are available include the Iced Energy drinks, cold coffees (like cold brew or iced coffees — you can try the new White Chocolate Macadamia Cream cold brew!), Starbucks Refreshers (like the new Summer-Berry refreshers), frappuccino drinks, iced teas, and lemonades. Ordering any of these drinks would qualify you to get a free reusable straw. Starbucks Refresher Starbucks noted that this promotion is available at participating stores in the U.S. and Canada, and it’s only offered while supplies last because quantities are limited. Starbucks There’s a limit of one straw per drink purchase. The straw is compatible with Starbucks’ cold cup lids and most reusable Starbucks cold cups. New Starbucks Drinks We already tried some of those new Iced Energy drinks, and we have to admit that they weren’t our favorite. They just had a strange, artificial aftertaste. However, we did really enjoy the Summer-Berry Refreshers, and actually any of the Refreshers on Starbucks’ menu are a good choice if you’re walking around Disney World! Summer-Berry Refresher Some people say the Paradise Drink (a pineapple and passionfruit-flavored Refresher made with coconut milk) tastes like DOLE Whip in beverage form. The Drinks There are several Starbucks locations in Disney World, but the ones in the parks don’t always participate in normal Starbucks promotions. However, if you head to either of the two locations in Disney Springs, you’re more likely to find the reusable straws there! Starbucks These Disney Springs Starbucks locations are also famous for creating fun, Disney-themed drinks, like the Sisu Drink and Raya Frappuccino, which came out to celebrate the premiere of Disney’s movie Raya and the Last Dragon. For 15 years now, Disney Food Blog has been here to rate and review all of Disney World’s newest snacks. EPCOT But we also love to provide insight into what we personally think would be beneficial for Disney to do, or to implement into the parks. And what’s wild is that sometimes, it seems that Disney listens to us! Most recently, the hush puppies were removed from the menu at Columbia Harbour House in Magic Kingdom, and we were devastated. We let you all know, it became known VERY quickly that a lot of people were upset about the change, and within a week or so, the hush puppies were back on the menu! So Disney, if you were listening then, we hope you’re listening now too — it’s been 12 years, but we STILL THINK adding one of these into the Disney World parks would be incredibly useful. What do you do when there's a nearly 3-month gap between the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival and the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival? You throw yourself a big old DFB Mega Fest! We've got loads of giveaways, behind the scenes content, and untold crazy stories from AJ Wolfe and the DFB team. Come celebrate DFB Mega Fest with us! All the way back in 2011, AJ wrote a post talking about how Disney should implement at LEAST one automat into the parks. The concept of automats came from Berlin in 1895, but the first one didn’t open in North America until Joseph Horn and Frank Hardart created one in Philadelphia in 1902 (yes, over 100 years ago!) However, the trend really took off in 1912 when Horn & Hardart Company’s “Automat Lunch Room” opened in New York. Horn and Hardart Automat But what IS an automat, you ask? It’s a combination of a restaurant and a vending machine — they provide individual servings of freshly made food that were placed behind little windows. If you wanted something, you’d put your money in the coin slot (imagine things being that cheap — we WISH ) and open the window to take out your serving. Bamn Automat in NYC Yes, it was basically fast food before fast food restaurants were a thing, but hey, we think these are even COOLER than some fast food restaurants, especially in a place like Disney World! Nowadays, we have the technology to make sure that the window stays locked until your payment is verified, and you could tap a card, pay with your MagicBand instead of paying cash, if Disney didn’t want to go through that struggle. Automat Photo (c) National Geographic As fast food chains became more prevalent in the 60s and 70s and people moved to the suburbs to live, automats started disappearing. The last Horn & Hardart automat in New York closed its doors in 1991. While there was a small surge of the automat potentially returning during the COVID-19 pandemic, we haven’t seen them make a major comeback, but the novelty is still there. And THAT’S why, Disney World, we think you need an automat somewhere on property. ©New York Times Disney World has TONS of experiences that can’t be recreated in “real life” — flying on dinosaurs and going back into time to bring a dinosaur back to present time, dining at a ’50s cafe with servers that make you stand in a corner if you put your elbows on the table, a drive-in movie theater that shows sections of classic science fiction films — the list goes on and on. So we think an automat would work PERFECTLY here. Not to mention that kids would probably be just as excited about the look and the idea, if not MORE excited than the adults! Especially if costs were purposefully kept down to allow for coins to be used, just like old times. Dinosaur in Animal Kingdom But if nostalgia isn’t enough for you, you know how the restaurants at your Disney hotel close before you get back from a long park day and you need SOMETHING substantial to eat before you go to bed? BAM. AUTOMAT. No need to staff a whole restaurant to be open late into the night, just a few workers to ensure the freshness of what’s kept inside the automat every few hours. It’s totally possible! World Premiere Food Court You could stock the automat with the same offerings you’d find in the grab and go section at your Disney World hotel or at some quick service restaurants because again, those close, but if you get a few temperature controlled automats to offer cold sandwiches, salads, Lunchables, Uncrustables — the options are LIMITLESS. And just imagine how much money this could bring in during those late night hours! (And we know you love your money, Disney…just saying.) Vending machines offer snacks, but not meals We think we’ve made a pretty great case, Disney, so we expect to see some Automats popping up over the next few years. You can bet we’ll be first in line to try them! But why do we bring this up now, after 12 years of silence? Because for the next few days we’re embarking on DFB Mega Fest! If you’ve been here a while, you know that we’re all about the Disney World SNACKS! Spaceship Earth welcomes you to EPCOT… and to World Celebration! Over the years, we’ve tried hundreds, probably thousands of treats in the parks and resorts, and we’ve definitely got some favorites that we think you NEED to try. One of those snacks (and probably one of the most popular snacks in Disney World as a whole) is Dole Whip! There are so many flavors to check out at various spots around property, and coming soon, we’re adding a new Dole Whip treat to the list. Next week, July 18th, marks Disney’s 4th annual Dole Whip Day celebration! Yep, it’s a holiday dedicated entirely to the beloved fruity soft-serve treat, and it’s the perfect excuse to indulge in your favorite version of Dole Whip. Tropical Serenade In honor of the holiday, Disney World is adding a new Dole Whip treat in EPCOT! If you head over to Refreshment Outpost from July 14th through July 21st, you can try the DOLE Whip Cherry-Pineapple Swirl cone. Isn’t she a beaut?! It’s kind of sad how we can merrily go about our day at Disney World before reality hits us like a ton of bricks, forcing us to face some harsh truths. Cinderella Castle We’re used to Disney World causing frustration due to bad weather, ride shutdowns, unruly guests, or just plain bad luck. However, what we’re not used to when we visit the parks is a glaring truth — we’re old. To put it simply, Disney World has no trouble reminding us that we’re not as spry as we used to be. We go to Disney World to tap into a fountain of eternal youth, but sometimes all our trips do is remind us how old we’re getting. We’ll get into some of these reminders, but we’ll also go over how you can tackle these issues and stay young at Disney World forever! Drinking Around the World is a no-go Many 20-somethings’ favorite pastime is Drinking Around the World at EPCOT. This is just no longer feasible. Between feeling a heavier financial responsibility to spend our money wisely and the fact that we just can’t “hang” like we used to, Drinking Around the World doesn’t even seem like an option these days. Still, it’s not the end of the world! We can grab drinks here and there and put the money we would’ve spent on beer, wine, and cocktails toward fantastic eats instead. We can also use all the time we would’ve spent Drinking Around the World towards riding attractions and actually experiencing EPCOT. EPCOT is more than just Drinking Around the World If you’re still intent on Drinking Around the World, don’t go in unequipped! Stay safe and prepare to replenish electrolytes with something like Liquid I.V. — which you can find online in a 16-pack on Amazon! ©Amazon Coming in four different flavors, Liquid I.V. will help keep you hydrated and safe, especially during those hot Florida days. We remember when there was a time when we could visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios and ride Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith back-to-back without a care in the world. Now? You’d be lucky to get us back on that even ONCE, as it gives us — to quote Genie — “Such a CRICK in the NECK.” The point stands that not all rides are fun anymore…at least not without some serious planning. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster We want to be able to experience all the attractions we used to love, so it’s important to plan ahead. As we’ve gotten older, motion sickness has also hit us harder so we make sure to come to the parks prepared. ©Amazon While motion sickness patches are ideal for the Disney Cruise Line, they also do wonders at the Disney Parks. Any sort of relief helps these days. Still, we feel obligated to tough it out for our families. If your legs don’t serve you like they used to, welcome to the club. Still, there are some things we can do to save our feet (and peace of mind). Walking Down Main Street, U.S.A. Another construction project is about to begin in Disney World! Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort Disney is currently working on several projects throughout the hotels and parks. Some are pretty big endeavors, like turning the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade in Magic Kingdom into a Disney Vacation Club lounge. Others are a bit smaller and out-of-the-way, as is the case with this new refurbishment project that was just announced for Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort. According to Disney’s website, the All-Star Sports Resort gift shop, Sport Goofy Gifts and Sundries, will be getting some updates over the next few months. The timeline for this project is July through September 2024. Sport Goofy Gifts & Sundries However, the store will NOT be closing. Disney notes that visitors can still shop in the store, although they might see and/or hear some construction work going on while they’re there. Sport Goofy Gifts and Sundries has lots of Disney-themed souvenirs, like apparel, accessories, snacks, and other merchandise. All-Star Sports Over at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort, there’s a pretty big project going on at the World Premiere Food Court. This food court is under construction through July 31st, but you can still order food using the Mobile Order feature on the My Disney Experience app, and seating areas remain open. World Premiere Food Court Another hotel gift shop that’s currently under refurbishment is M. Mouse Mercantile at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. This shop is closed while it’s being updated, but you can find merchandise at other stores at the Grand Floridian, such as Curiouser Clothiers and Sandy Cove. M. Mouse Mercantile A BIG project is underway at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort: Disney is constructing an entire new building as part of this hotel! The new Island Tower will house DVC villas and will also bring new recreation and dining offerings to the hotel. Island Tower is expected to open this coming December. New DVC tower If you’re a fan of the massive Stormalong Bay pool at Disney’s Beach and Yacht Club Resorts (really it’s more of a small water park than a pool…), you should be aware of an upcoming closure for that amenity. Stormalong Bay will be closed for maintenance from January 2025 through May 2025. During that time, the Tidal, Admiral, and Dunes Cove leisure pools at these hotels will remain open. Stormalong Bay Around the same time, the Fantasia Pool at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort will be closed as well (from January 2025 through April 2025). Disney World is making quite a few changes these days. Cinderella Castle in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom From completely overhauling Genie+ to planning expansions for the theme parks, we’re basically floating in a SEA of Disney news and wondering how all of it is going to affect our next vacation…and yours! And along those lines, Disney announced a new hotel guest perk a while back, and we think it’s going to cause some CHAOS. Back in February 2024, Disney World announced that in 2025, those staying at Disney Resorts (including DVC properties) will get a FREE park ticket to the water parks on their arrival day. You’ll be able to use this perk at either Blizzard Beach Water Park or Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and only on your check-in day. Typhoon Lagoon Water Park As it currently stands, this benefit is only available for those with check-in dates from January 1st to December 31st, 2025. Usage of the benefit is subject to availability and all visitors hoping to get into the water parks with complimentary admission MUST be listed on the hotel reservation. Also, it’s important to keep in mind that since the pandemic, the water parks have been operating on an alternating schedule, with only one open at a time. So you may just have one water park choice available during your vacation. Blizzard Beach Water Park So what’s the problem with this perk? It seems like a pretty good deal, right? Well, it actually IS a pretty good deal, but we have to think for a bit about the logistics of it. And that’s where things start to get chaotic. Wilderness Lodge Since you can only access this perk on your check-in day, we can foresee a lot of people arriving at their Disney World hotel earlier to take advantage. After all, you’ll want to get as much time in the water park as possible! But unfortunately, this means that your hotel room likely won’t be ready when you arrive. Grand Floridian Resort So you make it to the hotel, luggage and kids in tow, ready to take on the water park — what do you do? Well, you’ll probably have to drag your bags into your hotel lobby’s bathroom so that you and your family can change into your water park attire before dropping your stuff off with bell services. And you likely won’t be the only ones! Every other family checking in that day who wanted to take advantage of the water park perk will be there with you, chaotically getting ready in the hotel lobby bathroom. BoardWalk Getting ready for a water park isn’t exactly a speedy task, considering you’ll probably need swimwear, clothes on top, sunscreen, sandals, hats, sunglasses, water bottles, and any other water park necessities, it might be a BEAR to unpack before you’re able to check into your room. Thankfully, beach towels at the water parks are complimentary for those staying at Disney World Resorts. (There’s a $2 fee for everyone else.) Castaway Creek Lazy River Ultimately, we’re expecting a lot of people running around in the lobby area, getting ready for the water parks before dropping their luggage off to be picked up later. If you’re planning on taking advantage of this perk in the future, it will likely affect how you pack for your vacation — bring those water park essentials in your carry-on bag! Dole Whip is a staple of the Disney World parks — that’s a fact. Pineapple Float from Aloha Isle This tasty, refreshing treat is not only perfect for cooling you off on a hot day but is also a great nostalgia inducer — a lot of our team grew up eating Dole Whip around the Disney World parks on our family vacations, and now when we grab it as an adult, it brings back those happy memories. While we love the classic Pineapple Dole Whip, we have to be honest — we NEVER get it. OK, I guess we shouldn’t say NEVER. Sometimes a good, classic pineapple DOLE Whip hits the spot perfectly. But here’s the thing: There are SO many other exciting options and combinations you can grab around Disney World property! We asked our team what their favorite Dole Whip flavors and combinations are, and BOY do we have a fantastic list for you. Zazu Dole Whip Lime and Coconut Float Starting out strong, we have the Lime Dole Whip Margarita, which can be found at Barefoot Pool Bar at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. It’s made with Corazón Blanco Tequila blended with DOLE Whip® Lime and Chili-Lime Seasoning — for those of you who drink alcohol, it’s a must-try! Dole Whip Lime Margarita We also love the Tropical Serenade at Aloha Isle in Magic Kingdom! This is made with Pineapple-Orange-Guava Juice, Coconut Soft-serve, and an Upside-down Pineapple Cake Pop. In general, the Coconut soft serve is a big favorite flavor of ours — please give it a try the next time you see it! It’s not technically DOLE Whip (it’s soft-serve), but we love it anyways. The Tropical Serenade Float Over at Good’s Food To Go at Disney’s Old Key West Resort, we also highly recommend the Key Lime Dole Whip! This is vanilla soft serve and Key Lime Dole Whip swirled together with graham cracker crumbs sprinkled on top. Yes, it’s basically Key Lime Pie as Dole Whip and we love it. Key Lime Swirl Over in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, you used to be able to grab the Simba Sunset at Tamu Tamu Refreshments, which was another favorite. This is Pineapple Dole Whip topped with a red syrup flavored with strawberry, watermelon, and coconut, and there was an alcoholic version available as well! (Please bring it back, Disney!) Simba Sunset Some other options that we’ve loved to grab in the past that are either seasonal or just aren’t currently available are: Chocolate Covered Strawberry Dole Whip (we’ve typically seen available around Valentine’s Day) A Valentine Swirl Raspberry Pineapple Swirl at Aloha Isle (Cast Members can typically do swirls of flavors that are in the same machine, and sometimes flavors in different machines, but that’s not a guarantee!) Raspberry Pineapple Swirl Dole Whip! Pineapple Coconut Swirl (Always a classic, delicious combination!) Coconut Pineapple Dole Whip Swirl Orange Watermelon Swirl at Swirls on the Water in Disney Springs (If you love Dole Whip, you HAVE to check this spot out!) Orange and Watermelon Dole Whip Swirls on the Water at Disney Springs is an amazing haven for DOLE Whip fans. They have DOLE Whip flights, so you can try a few different flavor combinations! There are over 20 Disney World hotels to choose from when planning your vacation, not counting the Good Neighbor Hotels nearby! Swan and Dolphin Good Neighbor hotels are hotels that aren’t owned by Disney but have a partnership with the Company that allows people to enjoy some of the perks of staying at a Disney World hotel. This includes things like free transportation to the parks and Disney Springs, Early Entry, and, starting July 24th, being able to book Lightning Lane selections up to seven days before your arrival date. There are a lot of Good Neighbor Hotels to choose from, but we’re personally HUGE fans of the Swan and Dolphin Hotels — here’s why! The BEDS Many guests love staying at Disney World hotels because they find the beds extremely comfortable. They’re not too soft or hard, and that’s the perfect medium for many guests. Most Disney World hotels use Beautyrest Disney Pillow Top Mattresses, and they’re so great that most frequent guests can TELL when those mattresses aren’t being used. The Bed at Swan Reserve However, the beds at the Swan and Dolphin hotels are even BETTER. The Swan and Dolphin hotels are operated by Marriott, and they choose to use different mattresses. The beds here are Westin Heavenly Beds, described as having a “pillow-top mattress, a white goose-down comforter, and four overstuffed pillows.” Swan Reserve rooms And guess what? They truly are heavenly from both what we’ve experienced and heard from our readers who stay there! Getting enough sleep in Disney World is WILDLY important because you’ll be going, going, going all day long, and doing that without adequate rest? It’s a recipe for disaster. We always know we’ll get a great night’s sleep here (but never want to get out of bed, which is a problem). SO Close To The Parks Let’s play a little comparison game: at the Swan and Dolphin hotels, you’re within walking distance to EPCOT, a short boat ride away from Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and have complimentary bus transportation to the parks and Disney Springs. A room at these hotels for one night from July 19th through July 20th is between $367-$474 with no discounts, depending on how fancy you’d like to go. Swan and Dolphin A similar Disney World hotel would be located on or near Disney’s BoardWalk, which puts you within walking distance of EPCOT and comes with complimentary transportation to the remainder of the parks and Disney Springs. A room at Disney’s Beach Club Resort for the same night would cost around $592 with no discounts, or a room at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn is $598 with no discounts. Disney’s Beach Club Resort Staying at the Swan or Dolphin hotels can give you a similar deluxe Disney hotel experience for hundreds of dollars less! For some families, this is a fantastic way to have the same level of service and expectation from your hotel at a lower price point. You Get A Break From Disney Theming For those of you out there who aren’t huge fans of having Disney-theming as part of every single second of your Disney World vacation, the Swan and Dolphin hotels might be a great fit. While these hotels are on Disney World property, there isn’t any major of Disney theming in the hotel or hotel rooms. Dolphin fountain While some families want Disney-theming everywhere, or at least hints of it, others prefer a simple, elegant hotel experience. If you want a bit of a break from the theming when you’re not in the parks, AND you’re looking to, again, stay at more of a deluxe-level hotel, this is the spot for you! Swan Reserve Entrance You’re still close to the action of Disney World, though, which is great! Walk 10–15 minutes, and you’ll find yourself in EPCOT, so you can immerse yourself in the Disney magic whenever you like. We’ve been keeping tabs on the first major storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, Beryl, since it became a disturbance. Storm view from aboard Disney Cruise Line This year’s season is predicted to be even more active than prior years, and after wreaking havoc in the Caribbean as a Category 5 storm before heading toward Texas, we have a new update on Beryl. According to CNN, Beryl made landfall near Matagorda, Texas, as a Category 1 hurricane, making it the first storm in this year’s Atlantic season to make landfall in the United States. Shortly after making landfall, Beryl was downgraded to a tropical storm and continues to move inland causing storm surge, wind damage, and power outages. via NOAA More than 2 million customers are without power across Texas, with services such as public transport suspended in Houston until the worst of the storm passes. A majority of flights have been canceled at George Bush International Airport and William P. Hobby Airport in Houston, according to FlightAware. Not flying today! In addition, about 5.5 feet of storm surge impacted areas on the northern end of Galveston Bay with around 4 feet of surge elsewhere along the coast. More than 3.5 million people in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas are under a tornado watch until 10PM CDT. There are also reports of two deaths in Texas from Beryl: a 53-year-old Houston area man whose home was struck by a tree, and a 74-year-old woman whose home was also struck by a tree. Beryl was strengthened rapidly as it moved through the Caribbean thanks to these warm waters. ©NOAA And, if you happen to be in Disney World during a hurricane and Disney considers it unsafe for guests and Cast Members, you may be asked to shelter in place at your resort. This does not happen often as most of the time, the Disney World area just experiences a bit of rain. But it has happened and is something you want to keep in mind when planning a Disney trip during hurricane season. If you find yourself in this situation, please follow all guidelines from Disney to ensure your safety during your trip.
