Planning a Disney World trip can be seriously overwhelming, especially if you’ve got to worry about booking flights as well. Where are you flying next? It can be a hassle to track down the best routes at the best prices that work for your travel plans — which is exactly why we do our best to track them down for you! If you’ve been thinking about planning a trip to Disney World, you might be in luck because two new nonstop routes have just been announced for Orlando International Airport! Alaska Airlines just announced that it’s adding 18 new nonstop routes to its service later this year — including two routes to Orlando, from Boise and Sacramento. Good news for Disney fans who live in or near either of those cities! There’s now one more option for getting to Disney World. ©Alaska Airlines The Boise to Orlando flights start on January 7th, 2025, and will run three times a week through March 25th, 2025. On the other hand, the Sacramento to Orlando flights will begin on January 6th, 2025, and run four times a week through April 21st, 2025. ©Alaska Airlines Not only that, but those planning trips to Disneyland will be happy to know that Alaska Airlines is also adding a nonstop flight from Boise to John Wayne Airport in Anaheim, so you now have a new option to get to Disneyland, too. These flights start on December 19th, 2024, and will run daily year-round. If you’ve flown or plan on flying to or from Orlando International Airport (MCO) today, chances are you could be in for a rough experience. Orlando International Airport Planning a trip to Disney World is complicated enough without factoring in flight issues — but that’s exactly what’s occurred today, July 11th, 2024. Flight delays and cancellations have plagued MCO all day, keeping up with a recent trend of flight complications at the airport. Let’s get into what you need to know about today’s delays and cancellations. Via flight tracker FlightAware, Orlando International Airport has experienced over 200 flight delays today, July 11th, with seven (7) canceled flights on the day, as well. ©FlightAware Several factors could be causing the delays, including storms around the country. MCO’s FAA status is still listed as “Normal” but delays have been noted in gate holds and taxi delays lasting 15 minutes or less for departures. Additionally, arrival delays in the form of airborne delays of 15 minutes or less have also been reported. As of this writing, 18 airlines have been affected by delays or cancellations. Southwest has had at least 67 flights (23% of its itineraries) delayed today, while Spirit has had at least 38 flights (29%) delayed. JetBlue has had 18 flights (15%) delayed, and Delta has had 19 (14%) delayed. Frontier also stands out with 19 (14%) delays and United has had 13 (18%) delays. Delays haven’t slowed and numbers are expected to increase as the day progresses. Orlando International Airport As far as cancellations, JetBlue has been the most affected, canceling three flights. Alaska Airlines has had to cancel two flights and Spirit and Air Canada Rouge have each had to cancel one. Once again, those numbers could increase as the day progresses so stay vigilant if you are flying to or from Orlando today. Disney has a NEW island destination! Let’s go to Lookout Cay! Recently, Disney Cruise Line opened Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, which is a new destination for several cruise itineraries. The Bahamian island is home to beautiful beaches, several restaurants, and plenty of activities for the family during your day-long visit. And we got to visit to check it out! But we got a LOT of questions about Lookout Cay, and now we’re here to answer them. How Long Is the Walk From the Ship? When your Disney cruise ship docks at the island, you’ll have to walk from the boat to the island itself, taking a pretty long pier to get there. It’s a significantly longer dock than the one at Disney’s other island destination, Castaway Cay, so many are concerned about the walk. Pathway to the island All in all, the walk takes about 10 minutes to get from the boat to the end of the dock. However, there was limited shade during that walk, and during our visit, there were no benches for cruisers to take breaks. Golf carts are available for those who need mobility assistance, but they are limited. Most people will need to walk. Do You Have to Take a Tram? On Castaway Cay, a tram takes visitors to the various parts of the island, since they’re all a pretty significant walking distance from each other. Does Lookout Cay offer the same service? Hop aboard the tram! Yes! Unless you booked a cabana on the very front part of the island nearest to the ship, you’ll be able to take a tram to get to your destination. Is There a Bar? For those hoping to enjoy a fruity drink on the beach, you may be wondering about the bar scene. Don’t worry; there are several available on Lookout Cay! However, the bars all kind of generally look the same and have the same menu. The Blue Hole Bar The good news about that is that you won’t have to worry about going to a specific bar for a signature beverage, but the bad news is that hopping around and checking them all out may not be quite as exciting. What’s the Food Like? There are a couple different places to eat on the island, but they all serve similar menus. You can get things like beef, wings, pork, mac and cheese, fruit, hot dogs, burgers — pretty much your basic American fare. All the restaurants are quick-service buffets, so you’ll make your own plate and then seat yourself. The food wasn’t bad; it’s mostly designed to be crowd-pleasing eats. Food at Lookout Cay One problem we noticed during our visit to Lookout Cay is that there were a LOT of flies out and about, which made the buffet service difficult. Hopefully, this is a problem that Disney will solve in the near future, because it definitely affected the experience negatively. Serenity Bay BBQ seating Another problem you may have is that seating can be limited, and food is only available during a certain window of time, so you can’t exactly wait for the lunch rush to pass. We had to circle the seating area at Serenity Bay for about ten minutes to find a place to sit down. Are There Characters? Like Castaway Cay, you CAN find characters at Lookout Cay! However, they could be tricky to spot. We found Goofy and Pluto near True True BBQ during our visit. Goofy on Lookout Cay You may also get to see some Disney characters if you check out the entertainment offerings on the island. We would definitely recommend those for families with children who want to see their favorite Disney pals! Is It Easy to Get Around? One problem we ran into is that there aren’t a ton of maps and signs around the island, so it can be a challenge to navigate from place to place. We recommend taking a photo of the island map and having it on your phone so that you can access it easily. Map of Lookout Cay Ultimately, we had a fun time at Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, and we’re excited for Disney to have another island option on its cruise itineraries. We clock THOUSANDS of steps in Disney World a day, and we know that people visiting for vacation do as well! Cinderella Castle But if those 15,000 steps aren’t enough for you, you can pay to get even MORE! Yep, one of Disney World’s most popular offerings is the runDisney races that happen throughout the year, where people can register to run through the Disney parks before they open for the day, competing in 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon races. And if you’re interested in doing a race, we’ve got some news for you! Disney releases the dates for runDisney races well in advance, but then a few months before each race weekend, we get the themes for the races announced! One of the most popular races of the year is the Disney Princess Half Marathon weekend each February, and now we know what themes that race weekend will bring in 2025. ©Disney The next Princess Half Marathon Weekend will take place February 20th-24th, 2025. There will be three races throughout the weekend — a Mulan-themed 5K, a Jasmine-themed 10K, and an Aurora-themed half marathon. If you’re interested in taking on all three races, you can try the Fairytale Challenge, which is Snow White-themed this year. ©Disney To round out the weekend, you can also sign up for the Disney Princess Yoga on Monday, February 24th. It takes place at 5AM at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and costs $122 to attend. Sunset Boulevard Registration for all these events opens on July 30th at 10AM ET. These races tend to fill up quickly, so you’ll want to register ASAP for whichever one you’d like to attend. They’re a truly unique experience since you get to see the parks before they open for the day, and you can often meet rare Disney characters along the race route. Many people like to dress up for the races in Disney-inspired costumes as well. ©Disney And if you’re not planning on racing, but you ARE planning on going to Disney World for race weekend, we’ll issue a warning! Race weekends are typically a bit more crowded in the parks, especially those that are particularly popular like the Princess Half Marathon Weekend. Expect heavy crowds during the day, especially in EPCOT (which seems to get the most attention on race weekends). If you’re traveling that weekend, you might want to go ahead and book your accommodations now! As Disney fans, we go to Disney World as often as we can. While we have reporters in the park every single day of the year to bring you all the up-to-date information, many of us on the DFB team don’t live in Florida. But we still head to the parks multiple times a year. Magic Kingdom And though we have been to the parks a TON of times, even we forget to take our own advice sometimes. Well, my last trip proved to me that I’m not Super Woman, and a day in the parks can be tougher than you think. So learn from my mistakes and follow these six tips for a more relaxing and easier Disney World vacation. Those of us on the DFB team pooled together the things we regret the most on our last trips to the parks so you can avoid doing them too! Deal with the Heat Better Florida can be HOT. The summertime in Florida brings high temperatures and high humidity. Even if you go to Disney World in the middle of winter, you’ll still likely see higher temperatures than in the rest of the United States. That’s why it’s important to be prepared for that warm weather. Unfortunately, this was something we didn’t do well on our last trip, and we were fried by the end of the day! Cinderella Castle On those sweltering days, it’s a great idea to take a mid-day break. For some, this may be as simple as stopping to take in a couple of air-conditioned shows in the parks. These provide a cool spot to sit and maybe even take a little 15-minute cat nap. Each of the four parks offers at least one indoor show that has comfy seats and air conditioning, so take advantage of them when it’s the hottest part of the day. Mickey’s PhilharMagic However, if you need a break longer than a quick 15-minute one, don’t forget about the nice hotel you’re staying at! Heading out of the parks and back to your room for an afternoon nap or a little hang out by the pool is a great way to manage the Florida heat. If you’re staying at a Disney World resort, getting to and from the hotel is as simple as a quick bus ride from the park you’re in. Stormalong Bay Another REALLY important thing to remember (but we forgot until we weren’t feeling too great) is to drink plenty of water! Carrying a water bottle around with you is a great way to remember to take sips throughout the day. Otherwise, many quick-service restaurants offer free water, and there are fountains to refill your bottles and cups around the parks. Water fountain and refill station Our biggest advice: don’t underestimate that Florida heat! Plan Your Day More Strategically Another way to ensure that your day is more relaxing is to plan more strategically. Picking the attractions that are your must-dos and focusing on them can help you save time and steps. Also, as great as Lightning Lanes can be, you can often find yourself running all over the park to make your times instead of going in a methodical order. That’s because with the current system, you can only pick your Lightning Lanes on the day of your visit and you get whatever is still available. Lightning Lane For example, with the current Genie+/Lightning Lane system, you could pick a Lightning Lane for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure followed by one for Space Mountain. That means you’re walking from the furthest point in Frontierland to nearly the furthest point in Tomorrowland. That’s a heck of a long way and A LOT of extra walking! If you choose not to get Genie+ or plan your Lightning Lanes out accordingly, you can save yourself from a lot of extra walking and burnout by going methodically around the parks (i.e. Adventureland to Frontierland to Fantasyland to Tomorrowland). Tiana’s Bayou Adventure However, with the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass system that will be coming out in July, planning your day will be much easier! You’ll be able to buy and book Lightning Lanes in advance of your trip, so you can plan your park day more strategically than with the current system. Take a Trusted Pair of Shoes One of the worst things to have happened to you while you’re in Disney World is realizing that the shoes you brought with you to walk miles around the parks end up hurting your feet more than anything. Picking the pair or pairs of shoes you’re going to take with you is one of the most important parts of planning and packing. Walking around the parks is no joke! We suggest breaking in the pair of shoes you plan to wear in Disney World BEFORE going on your trip. I also had the unfortunate problem of wearing a pair of shoes that I have always loved, but they ended up causing lots of foot pain on my last trip. Because I trusted them, I hadn’t brought a second pair with me. It may be worth the extra space to bring two pairs of solid shoes that you don’t mind walking 10+ miles a day in. Don’t skimp out on a good pair of shoes! The shoes you wear in Disney World will make a HUGE difference in how relaxing and comfortable your whole vacation is. Use the Parking Trams If you choose to drive yourself to the parks instead of taking one of Disney’s complimentary buses or other modes of transportation, you could end up parking at the very back of the lot REALLY far from the park entrance. Luckily, Disney offers parking trams in all of the parking lots! Magic Kingdom tram Sometimes it might seem like a good idea to just walk to the entrance, especially when the parking tram isn’t already right where you parked. However, that means you’re just adding steps to your already step-filled day. Trust us, we’ve regretted tiring ourselves out walking to a park entrance instead of just waiting for a tram. It’s too early in the day to be wearing yourself down. It’s a good idea to wait for the tram and let it take you right up to the front. You usually don’t have to wait too long for them anyway. Sleep In at Least One Day I have taken MANY trips to Disney World. And there have been far too many that have resulted in me being completely worn out and (unfortunately) crabby by the end of the trip in the Most Magical Place on Earth. After 5+ days of waking up at sunrise to rope drop every single park, you’re bound to be worn out. Crowds at rope drop in Hollywood Studios That’s why (and this might be controversial) we suggest taking at least one day to sleep in and let your body get the rest it needs. Yes, being at a park from open to close is fun and exciting (refer to the first point), but sleep is necessary to recover from all that excitement you’re having. Even if you sleep in, you can still hit up the parks later in the day! Another great option is to build in a pool or water park day into your trip for another great way to take a day to relax and rejuvenate. There’s nothing better than floating down a lazy river, soaking up the sun, and resting your legs. Castaway Creek Lazy River Sleep in, take a day off, or do what you have to do to get a little relaxing in on your vacation. We’ve made the mistake of not doing this plenty of times, and it’s time that we share how much better our trips are now that we can take some time to just chill. (It’s a vacation for a reason, right?) Doubloon Lagoon Pool There’s a lot that goes into planning a trip to Disney World, that’s why we’re here to help! Country Bear Jamboree closed in January so Disney could open the reimagined Country Bear Musical Jamboree — a new show with our favorite Bears as they sing classic Disney songs with bluegrass, pop-country, Americana, and rockabilly twists. It’s back! While we’ve spotted plenty of Easter eggs and nods to the original show in the new version, we wanted to take a deep dive into what’s changed — so let’s check it out! We hope you’re ready for a rockabilly good time because the NEW Country Bear Musical Jamboree is officially opening on July 17th! We got the chance to check out the show before it opens and thought it was such a great time. But, much of the show has changed (for the better, if you ask us!) and we’re taking a look at those changes now. Country Bear Musical Jamboree First up, Henry is still around, but sporting a new outfit as the master of bear-amonies. He’s now sporting a cowboy hat and suit with a bolo tie instead of his tophat! Henry The Five Bear Rugs — Zeb, Zeke, Fred, Ted, and Tennessee — have had an outfit change as well and they’re now all wearing matching blue bandanas and hats. Five Bear Rugs Bunny, Bubbles, and Beulah have traded their bonnets for pink cowgirl hats and more frilly western attire… The girls …and Trixie has gone from her blue look to this pink one that’s giving major The Judds vibes. Trixie! Teddi Beara is still swinging from the skies, but instead of a pink look, she’s now donning a new pink hat with a blue feather boa — and quite the extravagant-looking necklace. Teddi Beara Our pal Wendell no longer wears a bowler hat and blue bandana, instead, he’s donning a cowboy hat and vest — but he’s still playing! Wendell Ernest’s new outfit looks just like Bert from Mary Poppins, which is fitting since he performs “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” in the new show. Ernest You might recognize Terrance as the artist formerly known as Shaker, who now wears a dirty-looking cowboy hat, green vest, and bolo tie. Terrance If you’re looking for Liver Lips McGrowl, you won’t find him. Instead, Romeo McGrowl is all the rage — and he’s been remodeled into an Elvis-style character complete with fringe on his sleeves. Romeo McGrowl Don’t worry, Gomer the piano player is looking good — maybe he dyed his fur at the bear salon? ©Disney It wouldn’t be the Country Bears without Big Al, and while much of his look remains the same — albeit a bit fresher looking — he no longer sings “Blood on the Saddle,” from the original show. Well, he starts to as a joke before going into “Remember Me” from Coco. Big Al In addition to the bears that have gotten a bit of a refresh, the songs have been updated too! We’re now treated to classic Disney songs with bluegrass, pop-country, Americana, and rockabilly twists. There are plenty of songs you might recognize: “Country Bear Musical Jamboree” sung by the Five Bear Rugs Bunny, Bubbles, and Beulah with Trixie singing “Try Everything” from Zootopia Romeo McGrowl singing an Elvis-type rendition of “Kiss the Girl” from The Little Mermaid Ernest doing a solo fiddle of “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” from Mary Poppins “A Whole New World” from Aladdin by Teddy Barra and Wendell “A Bit of A Fixer Upper” from Frozen by Terrance Big Al (tries to) sing “Remember Me” from Coco but also teases like he’s going to start singing “Blood on the Saddle,” from the original show “You’ve Got a Friend In Me” from Toy Story sung by Rufus and Sammy “The Bear Necessities” from The Jungle Book is the closing song “Come Again (Come On In)” is still the exit song — like the original show — sung by Rufus, Sammy, Melvin, Buff, and Max Don’t worry, Melvin, Buff, and Max are still here! So, while it’s clear there have been some significant changes to this iconic Magic Kingdom show, we think you just might end up liking them. Of course, we love the original attractions, but we think this new version of the Country Bears will have both adults and kiddos grooving in their seats. Plus, it’s an air-conditioned break from the parks where you get to sit down — so really, what’s not to love? We loved it! Country Bear Musical Jamboree OFFICIALLY opens to the public on July 17th, 2024. Do you plan on checking it out? We’re constantly on the lookout for Disney news, and we sometimes find it in the strangest of places. It’s Mickey! Sometimes Disney shares news directly on its websites or through the Disney Parks Blog. Sometimes we hear about the latest announcements from major news sources or the latest Walt Disney Company earnings call. And sometimes we learn new info just from visiting the theme parks. But now, it looks like Mickey Mouse himself is gearing up to announce something big! The Mickey Mouse Instagram account posted a very cryptic video on Wednesday, July 10th. It’s captioned “Something magical is coming.” and features a clip of Mickey, Goofy, and Donald rocking out at what appears to be some kind of concert. In trying to “decode” this message, there are a few clues we need to take into consideration. First of all, since this was posted on the Mickey Mouse account, this will likely have something to do with the main mouse himself. Disney doesn’t often use the Mickey Mouse account to make announcements for things that are completely unrelated to the character. Hey, Mickey! Also, the song that plays in the video is a punk/rock version of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King — a movie that’s celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year. It’s possible that the announcement could be related directly to something to do with that anniversary celebration. Animal Kingdom is celebrating The Lion King’s 30th Anniversary But there’s another big clue that we need to consider! The band Simple Plan commented on the post and said “Hmmm…sounds familiar.” Also, their drummer, Chuck Comeau, commented on the post as well. The style of music in the video is similar to what Simple Plan plays, so could it be them? Mickey Mouse on Castaway Cay Simple Plan performed at EPCOT for the International Flower & Garden Festival in 2024, but they haven’t been announced for the International Food & Wine Festival lineup, so it’s possible that this announcement could be related to that. However, it could also be related directly to their music instead. 2023 Garden Rocks Concert Some in the comments of the post theorized that Disney’s working on a punk/rock playlist of popular Disney songs, using Simple Plan to help out with that endeavor! Other Disney characters have been given their own playlists (like Minnie Mouse has a lofi playlist on Spotify), so why not give Mickey Mouse his own rock music playlist?! Mickey and Minnie No matter what’s happening here, we’ll find out the details tomorrow, on July 12th. We’ll make sure to share the update once we know, so stay tuned to DFB! Rock royalty recently visited Disney World. Walt Disney World Celebrity sightings at Disney World are nothing new, as everyone from heads of state to famous athletes to the world’s biggest musical stars have been making pilgrimages to the company’s theme parks since Walt’s day. Recently, members of one of America’s biggest all-time rock bands visited the Magic Kingdom. This past week, members of the rock band Journey, including founding member/guitarist Neil Schon and current vocalist Ariel Pineda, visited the Magic Kingdom and documented it on social media. Schon himself shared two photos of the group — one on Main Street and One in front of Cinderella Castle — along with the caption “Had a great time hanging at Disney World today! The Band had a blast today @disney world today !!!” @nealschon Instagram Schon also tagged @nealandmichaeleschon, the joint Instagram account he shares with his wife. That account shared its own Disney content, in the form of two short videos displaying images from their trip set to orchestral versions of Disney songs “A Whole New World” and “When You Wish Upon a Star.” Like recent visits from members of Blink-182 and The Rolling Stones, the Journey party’s visit to the park coincided with the band playing a major gig in the Orlando area. In Journey’s case, that was a July 10th show at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium as part of their summer stadium tour with Def Leppard. Touring the U.S. this summer. Their hit-filled set included: Only the Young Stone in Love Keep On Runnin’ Escape Faithfully Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’ Piano Solo Open Arms Line of Fire La Do Da Dead or Alive Guitar Solo Wheel in the Sky Lights Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) Be Good to Yourself Any Way You Want It Don’t Stop Believin’ Journey first formed in 1973 and saw their greatest period of success from 1978 through 1987 with singer Steve Perry. During this period, they released a slew of successful albums including Escape and Frontiers. Over the course of their career, the band has sold over 100 million records worldwide (including 25 gold and platinum albums in the U.S.) and has had 19 top-40 singles. Journey was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. The band’s current lineup of Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Deen Castronovo, Arnel Pineda, Jason Derlatka, and Todd Jensen remains a massively popular touring force. The band at Walt Disney World, @nealschon Instagram Clearly, Journey hasn’t stopped “believin’” in the Disney magic, as the band paid a visit to the “Most Magical Place on Earth” in conjunction with their most recent massive Orlando show. Stay tuned to DFB for further coverage of celebrity visits to Disney World. CONFESSION: I AVOIDED Magic Kingdom for Over 6 Hours, and I Felt Super Guilty About It. But It Was the RIGHT CHOICE. Believe it or not, DFB has been around for 15 years. We know, we can hardly believe it ourselves! We’re celebrating with a HUGE event — DFB Megafest! MEGAFEST! Over the years, the Disney Food Blog has grown, changed, and evolved — and some pretty epic things have happened in the process. Whether you’ve been a fan since Day 1 or if this is your very first time reading the blog (welcome!) we thought we’d share the biggest “pinch me!” moments from running DFB over the years. What do you do when there's a nearly 3-month gap between the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival and the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival? You throw yourself a big old DFB Mega Fest! We've got loads of giveaways, behind the scenes content, and untold crazy stories from AJ Wolfe and the DFB team. Come celebrate DFB Mega Fest with us! DFB Mega Fest is two weeks full of giveaways, fun content across all of our social media platforms and blogs, YouTube scavenger hunts, and MORE! Head over to the Mega Fest Hub to see what’s planned! Right now, we’re sharing some of the most unbelievable things we’ve experienced over 15 years of DFB! That time AJ was profiled in the New York Times We’re starting off strong by talking about one of the biggest pinch-me moments in DFB history — when AJ was profiled by the New York Times. She spent the entire day at Disneyland with a New York Times food writer, trying all sorts of treats and walking the writer through our process. Mickey Premium Bar Eventually, the Times put out a piece on Disney fans, the phenomenon, and of course — snacks, and AJ was featured as an expert on all things House of Mouse. You can read the article here! The first time we covered an entire EPCOT Festival Ah, 2010. Things were much simpler then. Well, unless you were Disney Food Blog covering an entire EPCOT festival for the very first time! The EPCOT Food & Wine Festival is kind of like our Super Bowl, and since 2010 we’ve been covering it all. And, while we have a team of people to handle it all now — back then it all fell to one person. 2023 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival That’s right — AJ used to be the one to eat every single item we tried and reviewed during the festivals. Talk about a commitment! Launching the DFB Guide Disney Food Blog officially started in 2009, but it wasn’t until a couple of years later that the DFB Guide — our e-book on how to plan a Disney World vacation and provide our hottest insider Disney World tips gathered over decades of travel — was launched. DFB Guide The DFB Guide to Walt Disney World® Dining is packed with more than 900 pages of tips and information, but it begins with a 5-step guide designed to get all your major worries out of the way. Hiring Our First Writer and Reporter Eventually, AJ couldn’t do it all herself and hired a writer to help out. Then she hired another writer, and another, and then a reporter, and well, here we are 15 years and countless employees and contributors later! Hollywood Studios Of course, DFB wouldn’t be what it is today without this team and we’re so grateful to every person who has made that a reality! The first time Disney PR noticed us Sure, now Disney knows who we are and is kind enough to invite us to media events, but there was a time long before we got the inside scoop and Disney didn’t know us from Adam. Luckily, that all changed one day a while back. We know! AJ got an email from a Disney Public Relations person that essentially just read, “Who are you?” and the rest is history. Going into the cranberry bog Back in the day, Ocean Spray had a HUGE Cranberry Bog at the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival. It wasn’t exactly open to parkgoers, but AJ and Heather Sievers had a dream they were determined to have come true — and they did. Cocktail Party set up INSIDE the bog!! They not only got to put on waders and go into the bog, but they even got to enjoy some eats and drinks at a reception while they were in there! Talk about dreams coming true. Covering two major Disney events on the same day for the first time Disney really loves to keep us on our toes by making multiple announcements at once and having huge events on the same day these days, but that wasn’t always the case. But, on one ill-fated day in 2019, that all changed when Disney decided to open Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios on the same day the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival kicked off. Galaxy’s Edge August 29th, 2019 is a day that will live in infamy — at least amongst the DFB team and hardcore Disney World fans. We were in both parks covering everything you needed to know and we’ll continue to do that for years to come! Hitting 1 Million Followers on Instagram and YouTube From our lowly beginnings as a blog about Disney food to a media company with multiple social media channels and more, it’s no secret that DFB has grown. But, breaking one million followers on Instagram was definitely a huge milestone for us. EPCOT And, not too long after, we also hit one million subscribers on YouTube — another huge milestone we’re pretty darn proud of. DFB Megafest! Just the sheer fact that we’re able to do an event like Megafest is pretty mind-blowing and we wouldn’t be here without you, so thank you! Make sure you stay tuned for giveaways, fun content across all of our social media platforms and blogs, YouTube scavenger hunts, and MORE! MEGAFEST! The Mustard Seed is all about sustainability and has diverted nearly 4 million cubic feet of landfill waste, per the Orlando Sentinel. Further adding to the philanthropic spirit, Visit Orlando will donate an additional $3,000 to one local nonprofit in each of Orange County’s six commission districts. In line with The Mustard Seed’s philosophy, the theme of the donation will be all about creating thriving and sustainable communities. ©Visit Orlando Since the charity aspect was introduced in 2009, Magical Dining has raised over $2.5 million. Last year, $269,272 was donated to charities supporting survivors of abuse in Central Florida, including The Lifeboat Project, which was able to hire a case manager, purchase new vehicles, and build a safe house. It goes without saying that taking part in this delicious event does a lot of good for a lot of people. ©Visit Orlando The new restaurants joining the event and their prices are as follows: New for 2024 Adega Gaucha in Kissimmee — $40 Armando’s in College Park — $40 Armando’s in Lake Nona — $40 Armando’s in Winter Park — $40 Braccia Ristorante — $40 Chayote Barrio Kitchen — $60 Chef’s Table at The Edgewater — $60 Chima Steakhouse — $60 Citrus Club — $40 Crocante Restaurant + Bar — $40 Cru Quarters at The Mayflower — $40 F&D Prime Modern Steakhouse — $60 Firebirds Wood Fired Grill — $40 Helena Modern Riviera — $40 Nami — $60 Norman’s Orlando — $60 Pine & Oak Tavern — $40 Sophia’s Trattoria — $40 Summer House on the Lake — $40 Trabucco — $40 Trattoria del Porto at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando — $40 Twin View Restaurant at Evermore Resort — $60 Wine 4 Oysters Bar and Bites, East Orlando — $40 Wine 4 Oysters Bar and Bites, West Orlando — $40 Yamasan Sushi and Grill — $40 9 Michelin Guide Restaurants AVA MediterrAegean — $60 BACAN — $60 Four Flamingos: A Richard Blais Florida Kitchen — $60 Kabooki Sushi (East Colonial location) — $40 Maxine’s on Shine — $40 Ravello — $60 The Pinery — $40 The Ravenous Pig — $40 Z Asian Vietnamese Kitchen — $40 Ravello Menu’s are live on the Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining website and more information about the event can be found there, including locations, dietary preferences, and dine-and-stay deals. Disney Springs is Disney World’s entertainment, shopping, and dining district, and it’s one of our favorite places to visit that doesn’t require a park ticket! Disney Springs Whether you’re looking for the latest Disney merchandise, entertainment, snacks, or more, chances are you can find it at Disney Springs. And right now, we’re bringing you along as we try a new tasty treat at one of our favorite spots! We stopped by Joffrey’s at Disney Springs to try the new Glitter Cupcake Cold Brew! It’s made with Joffrey’s cold brew topped with whipped cream and edible gold glitter for $6.49. We were especially intrigued by the edible gold glitter! Glitter Cupcake Cold Brew This was a decently strong cold brew concoction! It’s fun to look at when you swirl it around and see all the glitter floating in the cold brew as the whipped cream seeps into the beverage. If you’ve ever had a Shakin’ Jamaican cold brew from Joffrey’s, this tasted like a sweeter version of that. While it’s got a pretty presentation, it’s really just a sweeter cold brew coffee with whipped cream and edible glitter. It’s pretty basic and there’s no detectable “cupcake” to it despite the name — maybe because the whipped cream on top kind of makes it look like a cupcake? But not really. It will forever remain a mystery to us. Glitter Cupcake Cold Brew If you don’t like sweet coffee, you can probably skip this and just get a regular ol’ cold brew or something instead. But if you like a Shakin’ Jamaican, you might end up enjoying this after all. Head on over to Joffrey’s at Disney Springs if you want to try it! Try it! We are on a mission, y’all. We are sick and TIRED of seeing our favorite Disney World snacks getting dropped from menus. Now, fans raised a pretty BIG fuss when Columbia Harbour House in Magic Kingdom stopped offering hushpuppies. And you know what? They came back! We’re still working on convincing Disney World to bring back the original Waffle Sandwiches at Sleepy Hollow, though. Well, there’s one snack we mourned the loss of last year, and it has finally come back. Well, it’s sort of back. During Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, we fell in LOVE with the Wendell’s Bear Claw treat, named after Country Bear Wendell, that you could get at Westward Ho in Magic Kingdom. The snack was a traditional bear claw pastry dipped in and filled with chocolate and sprinkled with hazelnuts. Simple, but DELICIOUS. Here’s what it looked like: Wendell’s Bear Claw However, this treat finally went away for good in 2023 (after coming on and off the menu for months). We actually had the opportunity to buy the VERY LAST Wendell’s Bear Claw and even had Wendell himself wish the treat goodbye. Wendell and the last bear claw we’ve ever eaten! Well, we’ve got some good news — well, KIND of good news. When we were attending Disney’s media event to check out the new Country Bear Musical Jamboree show, we were given something called Wendell’s Bear Claw. Could our beloved treat have returned? Well, yes, and no… First, you can tell by looking at it that it’s different. Wendell’s Bear Claw However, the truth was in the tasting. This was VERY plain and lacked the nuance of flavors that the previous version had (you think we’d forget, Disney?). The inside was nice and flaky, while the outside was lightly coated with powdered sugar and slivered almonds that gave it a little more texture. But it just didn’t taste much like ANYTHING. So it might share a name with a DFB-favorite treat, but it IS NOT THE SAME. It’s not the same We’re not sure if this version of Wendell’s Bear Claw will actually be offered anywhere to celebrate the reopening of Country Bear Jamboree, but if it is, we’ll warn you that it’s not as good as its predecessor. Stay tuned to DFB for more. REVIEW: Did a NEW Menu Fix One of Disney World’s Worst Restaurants? Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Click here to Subscribe! Now, let’s check out these items! The Portable Waist Fan will keep you cool! ©Amazon This is the new best way to stay cool in Disney World! You can clip this portable fan to your belt or bag, and it’ll provide a personal breeze for you all day long. We’ve seen people wearing them tucked into their shirts so that they don’t lose any of the cool air — it looks a little funny, but it works! ©Amazon The fan has a battery life of 24 hours, so it’s ready to go all day without dying. It also has several other functions, like a power bank for your phone, an LED light, and an SOS light. When you’re not using it in Disney World, you can use it for other outdoor activities or set it on your desk to be a fan for your office! Shop this fan on Amazon here! Get the Neck Cooling Tube for more protection from the heat. ©Amazon Another new invention that can help you stay cool in the Orlando heat is this Neck Cooling Tube. To use it, you place it in the fridge or freezer for 20 to 30 minutes and then put it around your neck. It’ll stay cold for up to three hours! ©Amazon The advantage of this over a cooling towel is that it doesn’t get you wet. Cooling towels use cold water to lower your body temperature, but that water gets your neck and shirt soaking wet. With this tube, you don’t have to worry about that. Shop the neck cooling tube on Amazon here! This First Aid Kit is the only one you’ll ever need! KeepGoing Travel First Aid Kit The days of buying each first aid item individually are GONE! It has EVERYTHING The kit includes supplies like band-aids, burn relief medicine, q-tips, and more. Shop the first aid kit on Amazon here! There’s a NEW hotel perk coming to Disney World in 2025. Starting next year, anyone staying at a Disney resort will get a FREE ticket to the water parks on their arrival day! The ticket is good for either Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon, and you can only use it on your check-in day. If you want to take full advantage of this new perk, you shouldn’t waste any time getting to the water park right after you arrive at Disney World and check in to your hotel. There are a couple of essentials you should grab for your trip to help you save time and get started on your water park day ASAP! Get these water shoes that look like sneakers! ©Amazon One way to save time is to wear water shoes on the plane so you don’t have to change your shoes and pack your non-water shoes once you arrive at your hotel. These water shoes on Amazon look just like normal sneakers, so it won’t look funny if you wear them on the plane. ©Amazon The fabric of these shoes is breathable and water-permeable, and it dries quickly. The non-slip outsole gives you good traction on slippery ground, and the insole is soft and comfortable. The shoes come in a variety of colors, so you can pick whichever one matches your personal style. Shop these shoes on Amazon here! Check out another water shoe option! ©Amazon Didn’t love those water shoes? Never fear — there are more options available on Amazon! These water shoes come in even more colors, and they’re made of “ultra light-weight fabric for fast draining and cross ventilation.” The elastic band and removable shoelaces make them easy to slip on and off. We spend a LOT of time on the Disney World website. Magic Kingdom Checking park hours, looking for new menu items, searching for news on EPCOT festivals or ride refurbishments, or even just confirming details for articles we write. We’ve become pretty familiar with that Disney World URL! And during a recent glance at the website, we discovered something really weird. We were taking a look at the Disney World website pages for some popular entertainment options when we noticed that they just seemed to drop off the schedule entirely! Starting August 4th, both the Disney Adventure Friends Calvacade and the Festival of Fantasy Parade show no hours for Magic Kingdom. ©Disney Both options show hours listed through August 3rd but don’t have any showtimes from August 4th, 2024 through the end of the calendar (which is available through part of September). Neither of these are listed on the Magic Kingdom entertainment schedule as well. How weird! Festival of Fantasy What’s likely happening here is that the website is having some kind of glitch and that the schedule will be loaded in a few days. We’ll be on the lookout for any important announcements relating to in-park entertainment though, just in case. Ariel in the Festival of Fantasy parade If you’ve never seen these entertainment offerings in the park before, we definitely recommend you check them out during your next visit! Festival of Fantasy is a parade themed to Fantasyland characters and stories, so you’ll spot favorites like Winnie the Pooh, Ariel, Peter Pan, and Belle. Festival of Fantasy Parade On the other hand, the Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade is a shorter parade (a mini-parade, if you will) that features a variety of characters from different cultures! If you plan to watch this, you could spot The Three Caballeros, Mirabel and Bruno from Encanto, Pocahontas, Miguel from Coco, and more. Adventure Friends Cavalcade We’ll continue to keep you in the loop with any weird things we spot on the Disney World website or any entertainment news you need to know about, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest.
