  1. The 2025 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival officially kicks off on August 28th, and Disney is already preparing for the start of the festival! We spotted some booths complete with their festival signs in EPCOT, so we already know a couple of booths that will be at the festival this year. Full Spread from Greece Booth The EPCOT Food & Wine Festival is an annual celebration of global cuisine in Disney World. The festival features Global Marketplace Food Booths, a Concert Series, additional family-friendly activities, and more! The festival will run from August 28th until November 22nd , and it is included in your admission ticket to EPCOT. So far, 5 booths have been confirmed for the 2025 Food & Wine Festival as we have spotted their signs up in EPCOT! 2024 Food and Wine Festival The booths are India, The Alps, Spain, Belgium, and Greece. 2. It’s a mark your calendars moment mixed with a last call warning as a handful of attractions in Central Florida are bowing out soon. Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando are busily planning replacements. Details are various levels of hush-hush, but here’s what we know so far and when it will be too late for that last visit. The Twain shall meet What: Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America. Where: Magic Kingdom. Since when: May 1973. When’s the last day to visit: July 6. What’s there: The manmade island has Mark Twain-inspired adventures out in nature, including explorable caves and pathways, a fort and challenging footbridges. It’s accessible only by log rafts, which travel across the Rivers of America, home of the quadruple-decker Liberty Belle riverboat that circles the island. Among the sights: Harper’s Mill, Wilson’s Cave Inn, woodland animals and Haunted Mansion. What’s next: Two “Cars” rides are planned for the area, an extension of Frontierland and part of the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history, Disney says. Bone dry What: The Boneyard. Where: DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Since when: April 1998. When’s the last day to visit: Sept. 1, which also happens to be Labor Day. What’s there: It’s a dino dig-themed play area that was, the story goes, established in 1947. There are slides, caves, rope bridges, digging opportunities, fans and shade. What’s next: The new Tropical Americas land will take over this space, although it too is expected to have a playground. Opening date: Sometime in 2027. JOE BURBANK, ORLANDO SENTINELRip Ride Rockit riders burst through a cityscape along the roller coaster's route at Universal Studios theme park. (Joe Burbank/Orlando Sentinel)Ripped out What: Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. Where: Universal Studios Florida. Since when: August 2009. When’s the last day to visit: Aug. 17. What’s there: Music-themed roller coaster was innovative with on-board speakers with songs chosen by individual riders. Visually, it is known for a dramatic deep dive that lifts up into a loop and, from the sky, the track layout resembles a treble clef. What’s next: That’s not been shared yet by Universal Orlando, but visitors can see activity beyond the new construction walls in the vicinity. Mystery dates What: Dinosaur. Where: Disney’s Animal Kingdom Since when: April 1998. When’s the last day to visit: It’s a mystery. What’s there: A dark ride/simulator that involves the Dino Institute and a something-suddenly-goes-wrong trip to prehistoric times. What’s next: The attraction will be rehabbed with an “Indiana Jones” theme and become part of the park’s Tropical Americas. What: Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. Where: Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Since when: April 1998. When’s the last day to visit: It’s a mystery, but Disney says it will rock on through the end of 2025. What’s there: Another music-driven thrill ride, this one featuring Aerosmith tunes, Hollywood streetscapes and a ride vehicle designed to look like a superstretch limo. What’s next: The coaster will be rethemed and go for contrast by including the Muppets. It’s expected to reopen next year. Coming up But there are first dates, too. • “Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away,” a nighttime parade, debuts at Magic Kingdom on July 20. • The revamped version of Test Track thrill ride reopens at Epcot on July 22. • Sometime In late 2025, the “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!” will debut inside the Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom. The 4-D show is replacing “It’s Tough to Be a Bug,” which closed down earlier this year. Email me at dbevil@orlandosentinel.com. BlueSky: @themeparksdb. Threads account: @dbevil. 5. All it took was a bit of faith, trust, and pixie dust to reopen this super fun meet and greet in Disneyland. Disneyland This meet and greet spot was closed for refurbishment for what felt like years (okay, so it was nine months), and we’re grabbing our autograph books and pens and heading straight to Fantasyland. Meeting Tinker Bell in Pixie Hollow now has a reopening date! Disney quietly updated their calendar, and we’re now seeing times available on June 29th — that’s so soon! ©Disney This meet and greet is themed to the max and feels like you really entered Pixie Hollow. Small tinkering items like needles and thread, springs, and acorns feel larger than life, and Tinker Bell is there to show off her home. We’re not sure if it was routine maintenance or if they’re adding new details to the space, but we’re so excited to hang out in Pixie Hollow again. Tinker Bell and Fawn at Disney World There are a few other attractions around Disneyland that we’re waiting for to reopen from refurbishment, too. Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is becoming a rotational show, starring alongside Walt Disney — A Magical Life, which will feature the very first Walt Disney animatronic. This is set to open on July 17th. ©Disney The Enchanted Tiki Room is set to reopen on July 2nd after being closed since April. Tiki Room! We’re also begging for a ride on Matterhorn Bobsleds, which has been closed since the beginning of May with no current reopening date. Waiting and waiting for a reopening date We’ve noticed quite a few attractions recently going under the hammer, starting this year. It’s the 70th anniversary of Disneyland, and it feels like Disney is making sure all attractions are in tip-top shape for all the guests visiting for the celebration. 70th Anniversary Castle Tribute in Disneyland We’re thrilled to meet Tinker Bell and live out our childhood dreams, but in the meantime, make sure you’re following Disney Food Blog for more Disney news. 22 DISNEY RIDES THAT WILL BE CLOSED IN 2025 Want to Learn More About Disneyland? 7. EPCOT is back with more snacks! EPCOT This park is known for its rotating festivals and the fun of drinking around the world! Now the park has changed one of their staple snacks, and it’s almost too cute to believe. If you’re headed to EPCOT, you probably have a list of snacks you want to try! We love a treat that is unique, worth the cash, and pretty to look at. Now, one of EPCOT’s staple treats has gotten an adorable upgrade over at Connections Eatery! Connections Eatery! If you’re looking for a large quick service in EPCOT, Connections is the place to go! It’s in World Celebration towards the front of the park, and you can find lots of familiar favorites. It offers American-inspired eats like burgers, salads, and more. Connections We headed over to Connections to grab the Chocolate Baumkuchen for $6.49! It’s made with a chocolate ganache and whipped cream. This isn’t a new item in EPCOT, but it has changed! The Chocolate Baumkuchen The changes include the addition of the ganache, whipped cream, and an adorable chocolate Mickey decoration on top! Previously, the Baumkuchen was located at Connections Cafe, which is the Starbucks in EPCOT. The previous version of the Baumkuchen Our first thought on the changes is that this is seriously cute! We loved the changes; however, taste-wise, it’s pretty similar to its predecessor. The whipped cream and ganache made up for any dryness you might have had in the previous version. The Mickey motif is so cute, but he does melt pretty quickly in the heat, so be prepared. It is TOO CUTE! It was a cute, simple upgrade to this EPCOT snack. It’s currently available on the mobile order and does qualify as a snack credit if you’re using the Disney Dining Plan. If you really want to try this, be aware that a Cast Member did confirm it has sold out before so grab yours early if you’re desperate to try it. Have a bite! This is just another fun dessert to try in EPCOT the next time you’re there. You can read more about Connections Cafe and Eatery below! 8. A popular fast food restaurant just closed in Winter Garden! Chicken Guy! The Chicken Guy! fast food restaurant from Guy Fieri — that also has a location at Disney Springs — just closed its doors in Winter Garden for good. The closure of the restaurant signals a step forward to focus on growth and national expansion. This Chicken Guy! location opened in Winter Garden in 2021, but will now be moving on from that spot. It’s unknown what restaurant will take over that location, but Chicken Guy! is expected to open a new location inside a Walmart in Ocala. We are hungry! Chicken Guy! is a fast food chain created by celebrity chef and Food Network star Guy Fieri, and it looks like the chain will shift its focus to “focus on regional growth and national expansion through new franchises,” according to Orlando Weekly. Apparently, the franchise “faced eviction over unpaid rent of more than $38,000. A three-day notice was issued twice before the eviction notice was filed in Orange County court in March.” Chicken Guy! Sandwiches The first Chicken Guy! to open in Florida was actually at Disney Springs in 2018. It’s located by the Planet Hollywood and Coca-Cola Store, by the Orange parking garage. It doesn’t look like that location will be closing, at least not anytime soon. It’s a popular quick dining spot for those looking to grab something quick to eat, and not wait for table service. The place has some fans who love the food — including us! Oreo Strawberry Cheesecake Shake Other than Disney Springs, Chicken Guy! currently has two more locations in Florida — including one in Wesley Chapel and one inside a Walmart in Davie. Once the location expected to open in Walmart in Ocala arrives, that will make it the fourth Chicken Guy! in Florida. Chicken Guy in Disney Springs! More Magic with MagicBand+ It’s time to tap into the fun! With just a tap of the wrist, you can enter the theme parks, access Lightning Lane entrances, link Disney PhotoPass photos, and even unlock the door to your Disney Resort hotel room. During the early entry window, select attractions, merchandise, and food & beverage locations are open, giving you extra time to play, shop, or grab a bite. 11. So Disney has teased us with an announcement about the new Disney Villains Land in Magic Kingdom, but since then, it’s been basically crickets. The new Villains Land coming to Magic Kingdom will feature fan-favorite Disney Villains from popular Walt Disney Animation Studios films and two new attractions. We’ve done a lot of guessing from the concept art to figure out what this new land might include, but as we all know, things change a lot from concept art to reality. We know that this new land will go behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and that it’s part of one of the biggest expansions in Magic Kingdom history. But what else do we know? Well, not a lot. So, when will we know more? Let’s take a look at when Disney might finally make some more Villains Land announcements. Destination D23 The D23 events are usually where Disney makes the big parks announcements because there is usually a big panel that’s dedicated to nothing BUT parks news and announcements. Villains Land was first announced at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event in 2024, so we can expect that we’ll get some big announcements about the new land at this year’s Destination D23 event, which takes place at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Disney World. ©Disney Destination D23: A Journey Around the Worlds of Disney starts on August 29th and runs through August 31st. Although Disney has not yet released a schedule for the event, you can count on there being a Parks Panel being on there. So if you’re looking to learn more about the Villains Land, this is probably going to be your best bet. Construction Milestones Something Disney often does, especially with these big projects, is to offer little updates when they reach construction milestones. This includes groundbreaking ceremonies, such as the one Disney announced for the new Pueblo Esperanza land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This could also include the progress of rides in the land, as well as the completion of buildings, etc. ©Disney Now, we can’t tell you WHEN these milestones will be met, but we’ll let you know as soon as Disney announces them, so if you’re tracking news about Villains Land, we’ll keep you updated. When Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Construction Is Done Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is in the middle of a MASSIVE refurbishment (we’re talking right down to replacing the ride’s tracks), and construction is expected to last at least until 2026. So once that construction is complete and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopens, we may finally get an update (and maybe even a look from the ride) on what’s happening BEHIND the ride (which is where Villains Land will be located). Construction at Big Thunder Mountain Of course, we don’t yet know when that will be, but Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is expected to be down throughout all of 2025. Next Earnings Call Every quarter, The Walt Disney Company releases its quarterly earnings report and has an earnings call where they occasionally talk about upcoming projects, including projects in the parks. Magic Kingdom Now, the third financial quarter doesn’t end until the end of September, so we might expect a small update about Villains Land at that time. What We DO Know Okay, so what do we know about Magic Kingdom’s Villains Land? Well, it’s not a lot. We know that the land will be dedicated to Disney Villains. We know that it will be built behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. It will have two rides, as well as some new dining and shopping experiences that will be presented “on an incredibly twisted grand scale.” ©Disney Disney has also provided a glimpse at some of the characters to be represented in the new land, including the Queen of Hearts, Jafar, the Evil Queen, Yzma, Cruella, Captain Hook, Maleficent, Gaston, Mother Gothel, Ursula, Hades, Chernabog, and Maleficent as a Dragon. ©omelete The story is that the villains have been summoned to converge in one place. Chairman of Disney Experiences Josh D’Amaro said, “In our story, a mysterious spell has been cast, summoning villains from every realm. In this land, heroes don’t come to save the day — and there may not be a happily ever after!” All we can say is that Disney fans are chomping at the bit to get more information about this land. A villains-themed area in the parks has been our dream FOREVER, so now we just need to know more. So, Disney, PLEASE, THROW US A BONE HERE. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 13. When it comes to dining at Disney World, you’ve got a TON of options. Want something quick and easy? You’ve got it. Something middle of the road and comforting? Yep, that too. And if you’re looking for something upscale and luxurious, you can find that as well. Yachtsman Steakhouse We recently stopped by Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort to see what new items they’ve cooked up, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. Is it worth a stop on your next trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth? Find out here! Atmosphere Yachtsman Steakhouse is a New England-style steakhouse where you can savor premium steaks, fresh seafood, and more. It’s also one of Disney World’s signature dining restaurants, which means you can expect a more sophisticated vibe to the restaurant’s menu offerings, decor, theming, and service while you dine. Come on in! It’s also been one of our favorites to recommend over the years for your visits to Disney World! We’ve found the steaks here to be some of the best on property, and the service is often excellent, so when we spotted a few recent changes to their menu offerings, we knew we needed to investigate to be sure they aligned with our current recommendations for this restaurant. Grab a seat But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu The menu you’ll find here is incredible and features a gourmet array of steaks, entrees, appetizers, and desserts. The menu You’ll encounter the First Course… ©Disney …Butcher’s Cuts and enhancements… ©Disney …steakhouse sauces along with Land & Sea entrees… ©Disney …as well as sides and desserts! ©Disney There are even several options to choose from for kids, like a specialty drink, appetizers… ©Disney …and create your own plates for entrees and sides. ©Disney Draft beer and an array of scotches… ©Disney …cognacs, coffee drinks… ©Disney …and after-dinner flights can help enhance the flavors of your meal, too. ©Disney And now, onto the main event — the food! Eats To start, we dived right into the Bread Service, which was included with our meal. We were served Sourdough and Onion Bread Rolls with Butter, topped with Pink Himalayan Sea Salt and Roasted Garlic. Bread service This was a perfect way to start our meal. The bread was welcoming, warm, and soft. It peeled apart so we could spread the butter and garlic on top, turning it into a garlic knot flavor. The rolls with onions were not over-the-top in terms of onion flavor, but had a beautiful taste that added to the warmth of the bread. It had a great chew without being too hard or too soft. Two different options We know you’re excited to dive into your appetizer or entree, but don’t forget to check out the bread! Spread it on! We grabbed the Beet Tartare for $16. This is made of Citrus-roasted Beets, Cherry Vinaigrette, Roasted Red Bell Peppers, Avocado, Yuzu, White Soy “Egg”, Crostini. Beet tartare We’re always on the hunt for a great vegan option that is packed with flavor, and this one made the list! We tasted the herbs and loved the zest in each bite. Did we mention it’s beautiful, too? There was a mix of textures, and the flavor came right at the beginning of the bite before falling off, letting you want to grab your next bite. Served with a crunch! We also grabbed the Black Garlic Fettuccini for $38. This is made with House-made Fettuccine, Seared Baby Squash, Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes, Mushroom Conserva, and Creamy Black Garlic Sauce. Black Garlic Fettuccine Did we really go to a steakhouse for vegan fettuccini and want to book another reservation to come back and do it again? Yes, we did. This dish was worth the trip with the different textures, a strong taste of black pepper without being overwhelming. The whole dish was filling, and we loved how it wasn’t swimming in sauce but had the perfect amount sticking to the noodles. The garlic on top reminded us of bacon bites and provided a crunch with eat bite. We’re obsessed! More please! To round out the new menu items here, we ended our meal with the Berries and Cream for $15. This is made with Rich Berry-infused “Crème”, Vanilla Sponge, House-made Pink “Chocolate,” Macerated Berries. Berries and Cream Again, did we think we were going to become obsessed with a vegan berry dessert at a steakhouse? No, we didn’t, but we are thrilled. It’s made with vegan milk chocolate, and the mousse was whipped to create peaks and holes, making it incredibly fluffy. Beautiful The berry flavor was strong! It felt like they used every type of berry they could find, and we were eating it up. From the crunch, the light whipped cream, and the bite of the berries, we were in heaven. So FLUFFY! Nosh or Not This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if… You’re looking for a steakhouse with vegan options You are looking for a nicer dinner to relax at after a busy park day You want a variety of dining options at a restaurant located close, but outside of the theme parks You should skip this Disney World spot if… You are looking for a less expensive dining option You want a larger variety of options outside of traditional steakhouse dishes You prefer a more family-friendly dining location Our meal Overall Were we completely blown away by vegan options at a steakhouse? Yes, but we love to be taken by surprise! This restaurant is a DFB favorite, and now we can recommend it to even more people with these delicious vegan options. We’ll be back for the fettuccine and dessert because they were truly THAT good. In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. 14. There are dozens of restaurants to choose from for your visit to Disneyland Resort, but unfortunately, you probably don’t have time to visit them all! Disneyland There’s a popular dining spot in Disney California Adventure that’s got a 2-course prix fixe lunch menu, so of course, we had to stop by and check it out. Note: Carthay has recently switched their menu (as they do seasonally), so these items likely won’t be back on the menu until next Spring! Come along with us to Carthay Circle Restaurant to try out their lunch menu! Atmosphere Carthay Circle is a vibe. Located right on Buena Vista Street, the restaurant is modeled after the historic Carthay Circle Theatre — the one where Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered back in 1937. So yes, this is classic Disney history meets old Hollywood glam. Carthay Circle Restaurant The restaurant is upstairs, and the second you step off the elevator, you know you’re not in Kansas anymore. Warm wood tones, gold accents, dramatic lighting, and even ceiling murals — it’s giving “Walt might’ve sipped a scotch here.” It’s quiet (by park standards), elegant without being intimidating, and full of details that make it feel legit special. Carthay Circle Restaurant The seating is a mix of standard tables and plush booths. Service? Impeccable. Napkin-in-your-lap level. Don’t rush — take a walk around and check out the vintage photos of Walt with various celebs. It’s one of the few places in the park where you’ll forget you’re in a theme park. And yes, that’s exactly the point. Carthay Circle Restaurant So what’s on the menu? Let’s see! Menu The lunch menu here currently runs on a two-course prix fixe system. You pick a starter and an entrée. There’s also a full drink menu (hello, fancy cocktails), and one house dessert available for an extra charge. If you’re used to turkey legs and popcorn buckets, this is a serious shift in gears. Carthay Circle Restaurant menu The prix fixe is a pretty curated list, but it doesn’t feel limited — seafood, steak, fresh veggies, noodles — it’s not just steak-or-chicken energy. It’s definitely a fancier offering, and honestly, for what you get and where you are, $59 feels fair. Carthay Circle Restaurant menu Now let’s talk about the stars of the show — the food. Eats First up, we tried the Cheddar Parker House Rolls with Calabrian Chili-Pine Nut Romesco Butter. Cheddar Parker House Roll with Calabrian Chili-Pine Nut Romesco Butter This came out warm and fluffy and basically perfect. You could smell the cheddar baked into the bread before they even hit the table. The romesco butter was the main character — zesty, creamy, slightly tangy with a little spice flavor but no real heat. It had pine nuts and green onions on top, and the combo was pure magic. Cheddar Parker House Roll with Calabrian Chili-Pine Nut Romesco Butter We would honestly go back for this roll alone. Definitely a 5 out of 5. Next, we had the Wild Blue Lump Crab Toast. Wild Blue Lump Crab Toast This is how you do a starter. A slice of toasted brioche topped with asparagus, cucumber ribbons, a citrus crème fraiche, and fresh crab that tastes clean, not fishy. The brioche was buttery and still somehow fluffy inside despite being crisped to golden perfection. Every element worked on its own and together. This was light, fresh, summery, and just overall beautiful. In our opinion, also a 5 out of 5. Next up, we tried the Angus Beef Tri Tip with Ginger and Soy Glazed Chilled Soba Noodles, Shiitake Mushrooms, and Macadamia Nut Furikake. Angus Beef Tri Tip with Ginger and Soy Glazed Chilled Soba Noodles, Shiitake Mushrooms, and Macadamia Nut Furikake Here’s where things got spicy — literally. The tri-tip was chef’s kiss — tender, juicy, and cooked spot-on to medium rare. But heads up: the ginger-soy glaze brings some serious heat. It’s flavorful, sweet, and tangy, but definitely has a kick. If you’re spice-sensitive, maybe ask for the sauce on the side. Angus Beef Tri Tip with Ginger and Soy Glazed Chilled Soba Noodles, Shiitake Mushrooms, and Macadamia Nut Furikake The soba noodles were chilled (intentionally) and balanced everything out. Add in the crunch from cabbage and the umami from the mushrooms? This was fire. Absolutely a 5 out of 5. Lastly, we had the Mickey Hazelnut Crunch Pop for dessert. Mickey Hazelnut Crunch Pop This dessert is adorable and worth the extra cost. It’s basically a Mickey-shaped vanilla ice cream bar dipped in a white chocolate hazelnut shell with chocolate ears. The shell is thick (in a good way), and the crunch? Perfect. It’s rich, creamy, sweet, and very much shareable — or not. No judgment. We had to give this one a 5 out of 5. Drinks For our drink, we tried the Bloody Mary — made with Hanson of Sonoma Habanero Organic Vodka, BBQ bitters, dill pickle brine, and topped with a dill sprig and horseradish-crusted tomato slice. Bloody Mary Okay, this drink was… divisive. If you like a classic Bloody Mary, this one might catch you off guard. Between the dill, the BBQ bitters, and the tangy brine, there was a lot going on. The vodka pour was solid, and the drink definitely had kick, but it leaned more savory than balanced. Not bad, but not a reorder for us. It only got a 3 out of 5 on our radar. Nosh or Not This Disney California restaurant is a must-visit if… You want a break from burgers and are down to splurge a little for elevated food. You’re celebrating something — an anniversary, birthday, or even just the fact that you got a boarding group. You’re a sucker for Disney history and want to eat somewhere that feels like Walt might show up at any moment. You should skip this Disney World spot if… You’re in a hurry. This is a sit-down, slow-down meal. Budget at least 90 minutes. You’re dining with picky eaters who don’t do sauces, seafood, or “fancy stuff.” You’re trying to save — $59 per person (before drinks and dessert) isn’t nothing. Overall Carthay Circle is one of the best-kept “in-plain-sight” dining secrets at Disney California Adventure. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is elevated, and the experience feels special without being stuffy. The prix fixe menu delivers quality and portion sizes that justify the price. If you’re looking for an upscale lunch break that still has the Disney magic, this is 100% worth the reservation. Full Spread Would we come back? Absolutely — especially for those cheddar rolls and crab toast. Just maybe skipping the Bloody Mary next time. 19. We recently posted about some updates to Disney World’s dining reservation system; however, it appears that some of these updates have now been rolled back! Cinderella’s Royal Table We initially spotted some changes in early June, and just yesterday we noticed the changes had been rolled out to everyone and even more new changes made their debut. However, some of the changes are no longer available! You can no longer select up to ten dates at once when you are checking dining availability. Currently, you can only choose one date initially to search for dining. However, you still can view up to 10 days of availability if you are looking at a specific restaurant. Select up to 10 days of availability is gone ©Disney As well, the time slider has disappeared and the time slots have returned, for All Day, Morning, Afternoon, and Evening. With the changes that rolled out recently, there was a slider that you could use to specify specific times instead of having to choose one of the time slots. Manually adjustment scroll is gone ©Disney We also noticed that the green dots that showed availability on a specific restaurant’s calendar are also not there anymore. You can still select days to search for availability at a restaurant, but the calendar view won’t allow you to easily see which days have availability. Green dots showing availability don’t show anymore ©Disney It is possible that the updates are just being rolled back to work out technical difficulties or other issues, or it is possible they will be gone for good. While we are hoping to see these changes return to the dining reservation system again, only time will tell! We will continue to keep an eye on the reservation system, and let you know of any other changes. ‘Ohana Overwhelmed by the amount of dining options at Disney World? We are here to help! 21. Disney World is changing! Walt Disney World Each of the parks has been taking on new and significant changes like entire lands closing permanently, classic rides changing, and new lands being added. There has also been conversation online asking when a 5th park will be added to the Walt Disney World resort, and we finally have some more insight on that conversation. On June 27th, 2025, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District held a meeting focused on changes to the 2045 Comprehensive Plan. The District, previously known as the Reedy Creek Improvement District, is the governing jurisdiction and special taxing district for the land within the Walt Disney World Resort. ©Central Florida Tourism Oversight District The 2045 Comprehensive Plan outlines the plans and intentions for future development and growth around Walt Disney World, including changes to the theme parks. Throughout the meeting, the meeting documents shared how the plan has been updated to meet State requirements, and the board voted to unanimously approve the plan. Disney World will be changing even more! While the meeting ranged on many topics, one discussion seriously made our ears perk up. In the meeting documents, the board shared that, “During the next 20 years, the District’s development is expected to occur in those areas identified as suitable in the above analysis. The largest areas of suitable land are located west of Animal Kingdom, between World Drive and I-4, between Osceola Parkway and US 192, around Lake Mable, north of the Magnolia Golf Course, east of the Magic Kingdom parking lot, and west of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.” Disney’s Hollywood Studios It noted other areas that have been “identified as suitable” for development are scattered around Walt Disney World resort, and each of those sites has less than 100 acres available. The documents continued to share that “Development will also encompass areas deemed marginally suitable and marginally unsuitable as long as extensive (and more costly) improvements are made to meet requirements of the District’s Long Terms Permits and Land Development Regulations.” Expedition Everest So… what does all of this mean? It essentially tells us where Disney can continue to grow and expand over the next 2 decades. It also shares that Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios all still have room to expand! Below, you can see the map of locations around the district that are deemed suitable and unsuitable for development. The meeting documents did note that land currently deemed unsuitable can be made suitable through extensive and costly changes. ©Central Florida Tourism Oversight District The documents also confirmed what we feared: there are no plans for a 5th park for now. They noted, “Although Table 2-1 (Maximum Development 2025- 2045) allows for development of one major and two minor theme parks, there are no plans under review. Approximately 850 acres would be required for these uses.” You can see Figure 2-1 below. The District also shared a map to give us a clear look at the undeveloped land around the property. The documents confirmed that “approximately 50 percent of the District, including most of the Reedy Creek flood plain, will remain undeveloped.” ©Central Florida Tourism Oversight District So while they have confirmed there is no current plan for a 5th gate, they have also shown us that it is a possibility! They specifically mentioned two new minor theme parks for 2035 and a new major one for 2045, so don’t count out the possibility just yet. 22. Attention summer travelers: The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has a new flight warning for the summer travel season. ©Getty Images We’ve all been there: You’re sitting at the airport, phone battery draining as you wait to board your plane, and decide to pop your charger into one of the handy USB ports while scattered near the gate and start streaming Netflix on the airport’s Wi-Fi. However, as the TSA warns, you might want to think twice. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Earlier this year, the TSA shared their “two best tips for staying cyber safe at airports while you’re traveling” on Facebook. First off, they discussed the dangers of using those ubiquitous USB ports. According to the agency, “Hackers can install malware at USB ports (we’ve been told that’s called ‘juice/port jacking’). So, when you’re at an airport, do not plug your phone directly into a USB port.” USB Ports Instead, the TSA advises bringing a “TSA-compliant” power strip to plug into an electrical outlet or using an external power brick/battery pack. We own one! The agency was even more blunt in its warning about using public Wi-Fi, writing, “Don’t use free public WiFi, especially if you’re planning to make any online purchases. Do not ever enter any sensitive info while using unsecure WiFi.” ©TSA If you’re heading off on a vacation this summer, be sure to keep these TSA warnings in mind during your time at the airport. 23. We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there’s already an issue with the new Cars ride at Magic Kingdom. Piston Peak ©Disney We’re saying goodbye to the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and Liberty Belle Riverboat as they permanently give way to the new Piston Peak Cars expansion in Frontierland. While we’re overcome with conflicting emotions, we can’t help but be excited about the new Cars-themed offerings, given the success of Cars Land at Disney California Adventure. Still, there’s one cause for concern regarding the new ride coming to Magic Kingdom’s Cars expansion, thanks to an unfortunate tidbit of Disney history. So far, Piston Peak is slated to include two NEW Cars attractions! One will be a family-friendly attraction geared toward “smaller racers”. The queue for this ride will be housed in the park ranger lodge, and, as you move through the queue, you’ll be introduced to a new character: Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore. (This is a nod to Ranger J. Audubon Woodlore, the park ranger from Disney’s Humphrey the Bear and Donald Duck cartoons.) Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore ©Disney The main attraction in Piston Peak, however, will be a rally-race ride that takes passengers on wild terrain along mountain trails as they dodge geysers and splash through mud holes. ©Disney So far, Disney Imagineers have revealed that the queue for this ride will be housed in the visitor lodge area of Piston Peak National Park, which will be constructed to look like an A-frame mountain lodge. To get the feel of the ride right, the team is using a customized production vehicle with all-over sensors to gather data on varying terrain. ©Disney Each vehicle is supposed to have its own personality along with its own name and number. ©Disney Per Imagineer Michael Hundgen, “Our primary goal is creating an emotional experience for our guests. For this Cars attraction, we need to invent a new type of ride vehicle. No one builds these in a factory because it has to do so much more than just carrying you from one place to another. We have to create a car that conveys a feeling when you ride in it.” ©Disney While we’re hyped for the new additions coming to Magic Kingdom, we’re worried that Disney might not deliver in full. We’ll cut to the chase — the Disney Parks have a history of overdelivering on concept art and turning in a final product that doesn’t match what was teased. Don’t believe us? The concept art for Piston Peak has already gone through a few very different iterations. Cars Area Concept Art ©Disney Disney’s concept art has been shifted and changed so much, just last year, we wrote about how you CAN’T trust Disney’s concept art. In that story, we detailed how Disney had already underdelivered on some other projects, and YOU, the fans, felt underwhelmed by some of the finished products, as well. That leaves us wondering how expansive the new ride will actually be. Disney is promising a big adventure, but is also going to pack in “Parkitecture” (architecture inspired by national parks), water elements, and potential shops and dining spots. In short, Disney World is eying something spectacular, and (as is the case with every Disney Parks land) will likely need to make some sacrifices. Could that come at the expense of the new E-Ticket ride? @Disney Disney hardly sticks to the concept art, so we expect some changes moving forward. As such, we should probably temper expectations and hold Disney California Adventure’s Radiator Springs Racers as the standard, even though they’ll likely have some similarities in ride mechanics and experience. It’s also important to keep in mind that the ride ALSO has the capability to be EVEN BETTER than the concept art. We’ll just have to wait until some real construction starts before forming actual expectations. In the meantime, stay tuned right here at DFB for all the latest Piston Peak updates! 24. When Morgan McShea meets someone new while working at the Disneyland Resort, she is often met with a familiar – and heartfelt – question from her fellow cast members: “Wait, you’re a McShea?!” The coincidental inquiry comes as no surprise to Morgan, who is part of a long family lineage of McShea cast members, creating happiness for guests across the resort since 1979. Once Upon a McShea Morgan’s maternal grandfather was the first to work for the parks as a carpenter and later as a manager. Her mom, Pam, started as an attractions host in Tomorrowland in 1986. That’s where Pam met Morgan’s dad and Disneyland Resort electrician Scott McShea, and his two brothers, Jeff and Glen, who also work at the resort. Morgan’s grandfather, her mom, and Morgan have all worn the Disneyland nametag with pride. Fast forward to 2017, when Morgan was hired as an attractions host at the Haunted Mansion, with her twin siblings Hannah and Bryce following a few years later in New Orleans Square Food & Beverage and Disneyland Hotel Parking and Valet, respectively. Not to mention that their cousin, Cameron, is an attractions host in Mickey’s Toontown. Altogether, there are currently seven, yes, seven, members of Morgan’s family that work at Disneyland Resort! Over the years, the McShea family has made magic for thousands of guests across the resort. From left: Cameron, Hannah, Pam (1980s), Bryce, Scott, Jeff, Glen, Morgan. With her parents having met each other in Tomorrowland, Morgan knows first-hand that fairytales do come true. Inspired by her mom’s recollection of how much she loved her years as a cast member and the lifelong friends she made while working at the resort, Morgan too, fell in love with what it means to be a cast member. Family First For Morgan, working alongside her family is one of the most gratifying experiences she’s had during her time as a cast member. From growing up to becoming a lead and trainer, to pursuing a master’s degree in occupational therapy, Morgan attributes her success to her familial support system—especially her mom. “She’s my best friend and my biggest supporter. My mom is always there to help me and push me to reach all my goals,” shares Morgan. Morgan’s grandfather, grandmother, Morgan, her mom, and her dad on Morgan’s first visit. To thank her mom for her unconditional love and support, and to commemorate her family’s legacy, Morgan set out on a small mission: to get the ultimate family photo to add to her mom’s collection of albums… in true Disney fashion. Morgan’s mom loves pictures and has always dreamt of having a photo of the whole family together right in Disneyland park. So, in line with the tradition of creating happy family memories, Disneyland Resort jumped in to help bring Morgan’s vision to life. Going Undercover With the help of multiple teams, many hidden cameras, and nearly all the McShea family members, Disney set up a one-of-a-kind moment to reveal the framed family photo. Perched right above the skyline of Tomorrowland, where Morgan’s mom met her dad nearly 38 years prior, the McShea family had the ultimate family reunion that ended with a surprise. (Left to right) Uncle Glen, Brother Bryce, Dad Scott, Mom Pam, Morgan, and Cousin Cameron smile with the family photo. “I’m just so grateful to Morgan, she is the sweetest person on Earth and I’m just so lucky to have her as a daughter,” Morgan’s mom tearfully shared after receiving the photo. Morgan and her mom admiring their new family photo. As Disneyland Resort celebrates generations of creating happiness during the 70th Celebration, we thank cast member families like the McSheas, who remind us every day how fun it is to do the impossible. 25. Hold onto your Mickey ears because we’re about to talk about every Disney Adult’s dream: expanding Disney World! Cinderella Castle In a meeting with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, plans were brought up for the next 20 or so years of Disney World, and while nothing is confirmed, words like “new minor theme park” and “new major theme park” are being mentioned in documents. What does this really mean? Let’s take a look! The meeting documents discuss the two new minor theme parks for 2035 and a new major one for 2045. Although these are many years away, knowing that Disney is considering potential plans is a significant step in the right direction. Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge construction It says, “Although [Maximum Development 2025-2045] allows for development of one major and two minor theme parks, there are no plans under review. Approximately 850 acres would be required for these uses.” It later goes on to say the “overall amount of undeveloped land used for hotels and resorts during the next ten years is projected to be not more than 923 acres.” ©Central Florida Tourism That means there is enough space to add the new major theme park. Even if there are no current plans, Disney is ensuring that land is available for future development. By 2045, Disney is projecting that almost 140,000 guests will stay overnight at resorts, and visitors to the parks, including two new minor and one major theme park, will exceed 270,000. ©Central Florida Tourism Right now, they’re saying the new major theme park would have an average population of over 50,000, which would make it larger than Hollywood Studios but a bit smaller than EPCOT, in 2045: Magic Kingdom – 76,942 EPCOT – 55,409 New Major Theme Park – 50,776 Hollywood Studios – 38,683 Animal Kingdom – 32,072 EPCOT The minor theme parks are around 3,500 and 1,700, which are both smaller than the water parks. This makes us think it might be new lands or areas, mini golf courses, small water parks, or any other small areas around Disney World. By 2045, there are also talks about 13,000 additional hotel rooms and 18 more holes of golf. ©Central Florida Tourism Again, Disney has not come out and said that a fifth park is coming, but areas are being zoned and classified for the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. If you could have a fifth park at Disney World, what would you want it to be? Tell us your blue sky ideas in the comments and keep following Disney Food Blog for more Disney news.
