Disney World is celebrating an underrated holiday! Hey, Stitch! June 26th or 6/26 is when Disney fans celebrate all things Stitch, A.K.A. Experiment 626. This little alien rascal has stolen our hearts and spawned a franchise that is still going strong — with no plans of stopping anytime soon. We stopped by Magic Kingdom to see how Stitch was celebrating in Tomorrowland, and it looks like he brought some rare friends (okay, maybe enemies…) with him! The live-action Lilo & Stitch premiered on May 23rd, 2025, and despite other live-action remakes of Disney animated films getting less-than-stellar reviews, Stitch proved that he was once again a hit. The movie was the highest-grossing 4-day Memorial Day weekend opening in US history. ©Disney In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more updates you need to know about from Disney World and beyond. There is no shortage of dining options at Disneyland Resort, and no matter what you are looking for, you can probably find it somewhere! It can feel a bit overwhelming when you are trying to decide what to eat, but we are here to help. We constantly review restaurants, so you have the most up-to-date information for your trip. Disney California Adventure Today, we are heading to Poultry Palace in Disney California Adventure to see if the food kiosk should be on your must-do list for your next Disneyland trip! Let’s go! Atmosphere You will find Poultry Palace on Pixar Pier in Disney California Adventure. The inspiration for Poultry Palace comes from the Pixar short, “Toy Story Toon: Small Fry.“ It is right across from Jessie’s Critter Carousel. Just look for the purple and orange carry-out container! Poultry Palace Let’s take a look at what is on the menu at Poultry Palace! Menu Poultry Palace’s menu offers only a couple of options: Chicken Drumstick Box, Smoked Turkey Leg, Corn on the Cob (Chili-Lime or Buttered), a Bag of Chips, and a variety of drinks. Menu Poultry Palace is also currently offering a Chimichanga, which is expected to be an offering through the summer at least. Chimichanga The good news is you won’t have to decide between a bunch of options, but it might be hard for everyone to find something they want. Let’s try some of its food options and see if it is worth a stop! Eats First up, we grabbed the Chicken Drumstick Box for $10.99. This box comes with a side of slaw. The Drumstick Box comes with 3 legs and a good-sized cup of coleslaw. The coleslaw is similar to the one at Hungry Bear, although not quite as spicy. The slaw is tart and crunchy, and we were huge fans. Chicken Drumstick Box The chicken itself had a smoky dry rub on it that gives you a mild kick and lots of great smoky flavor. The chicken was both a hit and a miss. One of the legs was moist and tasty, but the other two were dry and a bit rubbery in texture. The dry rub was definitely our favorite part about the chicken! Chicken Drumstick Box We also got the Jumbo Smoked Turkey Leg for $12.99. We were pretty disappointed in this turkey leg; it was dry and rubbery. The skin was inedible and sticky, while the meat was dry and tough. Turkey legs are a hit or miss throughout the resort, but this turkey leg was not a good one. Smoked Turkey Leg We couldn’t pass up the Chili-Lime Corn on the Cob for $5.59. We also weren’t too impressed with the corn on the cob; the seasoning tasted like taco seasoning with a bit of Tajin, and there was way too much for the size of the corn. We think the butter one would likely be the better option here, unless you are looking for a VERY spiced corn on the cob. Chili-Lime Corn on the Cob They also have a special item available through at least the summer, the Chimichanga, which costs $7.49. This was definitely our favorite item at Poultry Palace. It was perfectly baked, flaky, and loaded with filling. We would definitely come back for this one! Chimichanga Now that we have eaten our way through Poultry Palace, let’s talk about our overall thoughts and whether you should stop by! Nosh or Not This Disney California Adventure restaurant is a must-visit if… You are looking for a delicious Chimichanga. We were impressed by the Chimichanga here, and if you are craving one, Poultry Palace could be the answer! You are in the area and need a quick snack. If it is hungry o’clock and you are by Poultry Palace, this restaurant could be a good option for a quick and easy snack. We don’t want anyone to be hangry! You want an easy grab-and-go snack. We love how easy and quick it is to grab a snack here, and they can all easily be taken on the go. You should skip this Disney California Adventure spot if… You want a restaurant with a lot of options. Poultry Palace doesn’t have a huge menu, so if you want lots of options, this won’t be the best option for your family. You are looking for unique food. Poultry Palace has a limited menu, and it doesn’t offer anything you can’t find elsewhere. It will provide a satisfying meal, but you likely won’t be dreaming about it after your trip. You want really tasty food. While we left with a full belly, this definitely wasn’t our favorite meal at Disney California Adventure. It provided some fuel, but we were disappointed in a lot of the dishes. Overall Our favorite item we got was by far the Chimichanga, and we also really enjoyed the coleslaw. We were pretty disappointed in the rest of the items we got here. The Chicken Drumstick Box had potential, but two of our legs were not as tasty as the other one. The turkey leg was dry and rubbery, and the corn on the cob had way too much seasoning. If you want a quick snack in the area, we highly recommend grabbing the Chimichanga! Hollywood Studios is an exciting place to be right now! Hollywood Studios They’re currently working on adding a new Monsters Inc. Land and the Muppets are taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster! While we’ve been watching new shows and keeping up with construction, we got a little thirsty so we went to grab the newest drink in the park. In Hollywood Studios, you can find Backlot Express! It’s a large quick-service restaurant in the Echo Lake area of the park that serves up burgers, sandwiches, bowls, and more American-inspired eats. Backlot Express It offers lots of seating indoors and outdoors, but for our latest visit, we were just grabbing a new drink from their summer menu! We tried the new Frozen Watermelon Vodka Lemonade for $16.50! The new drink! It’s made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, watermelon, and Minute Maid lemonade! Not only is it perfectly pink, but the green sugar rim makes it perfect for summer-time Instagram pictures. It’s cute, but how does it taste? The drink! To quote our reporter, “Y’all, it’s just so good!” It’s frozen and super refreshing in the heat. To no one’s surprise, it does melt pretty quickly. It reminded us of a watermelon sour gummy in the best possible way! A closer look The more it melted, the more the green sugar made it look like a watermelon in your cup! Was that intentional? Probably not. Was it cool? Yes! The drink wasn’t overly strong, and we didn’t really taste the vodka until the end of the drink. We loved it! It was a little sour from the lemonade, but the watermelon flavoring made it nice and sweet. It was a 10 out of 10 in our book, and we will definitely be ordering again! It’s the perfect summer drink! This is a great one to grab as you stroll between rides or as you’re taking that midday break. Heading to the parks soon? Let someone else take on the planning! Small World Vacations will take on the stress of planning so you can enjoy the magic. Best of all, it’s free of charge! Are y’all ready for a Hawaiian roller coaster ride…for a SECOND time?! ©Disney Disney just announced that the live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch is officially getting a SEQUEL! Yes, we know the movie just came out a month ago. No, this is not a joke. Let’s take a look at all the details! Last month, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, Alan Bergman stated, “The love that people have for Lilo & Stitch continues to grow, and the goal with this new retelling was for audiences to be able to enjoy these characters on the big screen again and hopefully have just as much fun watching it as we had making it.” ©Disney Disney has a few different routes it can take for the sequel! They could base it on Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, or there is Leroy and Stitch. Then there’s the option to go with a completely original story. It’ll be interesting to see what Disney ultimately chooses to do with the story and characters. ©Disney For more Disney news and updates, be sure to follow us at the Disney Food Blog! We’re less than a month away from Marvel’s highly-anticipated blockbuster! ©Marvel On July 25th, Marvel fans will get to experience the next instalment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Less than a month away from the movie, a brand-new trailer just dropped, and tickets are now on sale — it’s a good day to be a Marvel fan! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Marvel’s The Fantastic 4: First Steps focuses on the iconic family from Marvel Comics who unexpectedly gain powers from a failed space exploration and learn to become heroes. The story focuses on Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic (played by Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm a.k.a. Invisible Woman (played by Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm a.k.a. Human Torch (played by Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm a.k.a. The Thing (played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach). ©Marvel This will be the first superhero family in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the hype behind the movie is growing rapidly. The FINAL trailer just dropped for the movie, and to say we’re excited would be an understatement. The footage provided us with additional glimpses of Shalla-Bal (played by Julia Garner), a female version of the Silver Surfer. We also got some teaser shots of the movie’s villain, Galactus (played by Ralph Ineson) — although we still aren’t getting a look at his face (you’ll have to watch the movie to get a good look). The trailer also referenced a joke that The Thing should “say the thing.” True Marvel fans probably recognized they’re referencing an iconic catchphrase said by the Thing in the comics, “It’s clobberin’ time.” We’re hoping we’ll be hearing that in the movie; how could it not be featured?! Fans may have also recognized that we got more shots of Reed and Sue’s child, Franklin Richards. Franklin is one of the strongest characters in Marvel comics, so it’ll be interesting to see how he is used in the MCU! ©Marvel The trailer also gave us a better look at some of the characters’ powers and referred to them by their hero names for the first time. With the movie being less than a month away, that means it’s time to get our tickets! Fandago has dropped tickets for the movie online, and you’re going to want to get them ASAP before the first few nights book up — these Marvel movie tickets go fast. ©Fandago Fandango is also having a fan offer for the movie. Fandango is giving fans two ways to step into the world of Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps with two exclusive collectible bundles. Whether you’re looking to kick off your collection or assemble the full set, there’s an option for every kind of fan. You have two fan bundles to choose from: First Step Starter Pack for $24.99: Comes with one ticket to The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and one mystery Fantastic keychain. Ultimate Fan Set for $99.99: Comes with four tickets to The Fantastic Four: First Steps, four Fantastic keychains + one BONUS villain keychain, and an entry for a chance to win a trip to the premiere of The Fantastic Four: First Steps! ©Fandago There are a couple of disclaimers, so make sure to check it out online at Fandango when buying tickets. If you’re looking to go to the movie opening weekend, don’t wait to buy them! ©Marvel We can’t wait for the movie to come out! Drinking Around the World at EPCOT in Disney World is no small feat — both physically and monetarily. EPCOT Over the years, we’ve modified our guide to be up-to-date on the latest Drinking Around the World tips. Still, one fact remains constant — Drinking Around the World will cost you a pretty penny. With prices constantly going up at Disney World, it’s only going to keep getting more expensive. With that in mind, we’re taking a closer look at how expensive Drinking Around the World actually is, so you can consider if it’s something you want to pursue the next time you find yourself at EPCOT. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Let’s put the high price into perspective: Say we purchased every single drink that we’ve got listed in our free Drinking Around the World guide (which has ONE drink recommended for each country, PLUS a drink recommendation for The Outpost, so TWELVE drinks total). Have you ever been drinking around the world? On average, purchasing each of these drinks is gonna cost you around a whopping $180 per person. To put that MORE in perspective for ya, this is around the SAME PRICE that it’d cost TWO adults to go have a signature meal over at Cinderella’s Royal Table in Magic Kingdom (before gratuities, of course). Now, you don’t have to go and spend that much money when you drink around the world. There are absolutely ways that you can save and still accomplish this goal. Drinking around the world is fun until you’ve actually done it… You can share drinks, so if you and a friend BOTH want to try this challenge, you each only have to worry about paying for HALF of them. Another tip is to look at menus ahead of time to figure out which drinks are the most affordable at each location. An odd tip — but hear us out — is to go to Target beforehand. This may seem like a weird suggestion, but when you’re visiting Target before your trip — AND you’re part of Target’s Red Card membership program — you can stock up on Disney gift cards and receive 5% off your gift card purchase. These gift cards can be used to pay for MOST of your drinks around EPCOT, too! Target Disney gift cards can help you easily keep track of how much you’re spending on drinks, since each Disney receipt will show you your remaining gift card balance. Gift cards! And there you have it. There are small ways to save your money when Drinking Around the World, as well as managing your money better, but it’s always going to cost ya, and chances are the price will just keep going up each year. Have you participated in the Drinking Around the World challenge? Share your experiences in the comments below and continue to follow us here at the Disney Food Blog for all the latest Disney World news, tips, reviews, and more! Disneyland is getting a BRAND-NEW transportation hub, and it’s going to be a game changer! Disneyland Entrance and Train Station As part of its DisneylandForward decade-long expansion, the Southern California theme park resort has a bunch of fun stuff in the works. With all the new attractions and an entire Avatar land on the way, attendance is likely to go up, and that means an overhaul of how transportation at the resort works will be needed. According to Disney, theme park resort expansion calls for a new transportation hub, and the Disneyland Resort is already in the process of building one. Disney recently revealed some concept art of what the project could look like. ©Disney Per an official statement, “Plans are underway for a new parking structure and transportation hub that will be built on the east side of Disneyland Resort, on a portion of what is currently the Manchester cast member parking lot.” The new transportation area will offer about 6,000 parking spaces in addition to shuttle and rideshare areas. The hub will also have security screening as well as “dedicated access for traffic off of Disney Way, improving parking and traffic flow throughout the resort area.” Disneyland Resort parking garage The concept art also shows a new pedestrian bridge built over Harbor Boulevard, interestingly leading to a revamped esplanade. This new arrival experience has only been teased thus far, and we don’t yet know what the “new” esplande will look like, nor what exact changes will be made. This tidbit of information could be massive going forward, as the Disneyland Resort esplanade is the major gateway between the two parks, and possible construction could throw a massive wrench in how you park hop. As for the pedestrian bridge, it’s touted as something that will “provide convenient public access to and from Harbor Boulevard.” 70th Anniversary Castle Tribute in Disneyland Of note, this new transportation hub will probably look a lot different than the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC) at Disney World. Disneyland is much, much smaller than Disney World, even with the approved expansion. There are no waterways or a Skyliner, and the ease of getting from one place to another at this smaller resort is simply greater. Disneyland Monorail While it’s always possible Disneyland expands the monorail or its offered transportation in general, this new transportation hub will be way more Disneyland/Anaheim-specific, meaning it likely won’t need to be very expansive. With all that said, we’re still in the early stages of DisneylandForward, so new information could come out that would totally change the narrative of what to expect once this transportation hub opens. Current Disneyland Parking We’ll be following this project closely each week as we visit the resort and report all the latest updates. Are you excited about this new transportation hub? Nervous? Recently, Disney has announced new lands, attractions, and entertainment headed to the theme parks, new ships coming to the Disney Cruise Line, and so much more. Magic Kingdom The closure of Tom Sawyer Island, the Liberty Square Riverboat, and the Rivers of America is imminent. And, ahead of these attractions’ final day on July 6th, Disney has officially filed a permit for demolition. On June 25th, 2025, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a new Notice of Commencement permit for the transformation of Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America into the new Cars-themed Piston Peak National Park. Rivers of America The permit lists NorthStar Contracting Group, Inc. as the contractor performing the work, which is described as “Demo, infrastructure prep, and utility modification.” So, it sounds like Disney will be wasting no time getting demolition started and preparing for the construction of this new area. Rivers of America The new Piston Peak National Park will be fully themed after the Cars franchise. The area will feature two new attractions: one will be a rally race-type attraction, while the other will be a family ride. The rally race ride will have riders racing through mountains and dodging geysers and waterfalls. Piston Peak ©Disney The rally race ride will also introduce guests to a new character, Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore. The architecture throughout Piston Peak National Park — which is inspired by Rocky Mountain National Park — will include “car-ified” elements like lower windows so cars can “see” out and larger entrances so cars can fit through. Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore ©Disney If you’ve got an upcoming Magic Kingdom trip planned after July 6th, be prepared to see some construction walls up throughout Frontierland. With the closure of Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America, in addition to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad’s refurbishment, you can likely expect some potential route closures throughout the construction process as well — but we’ll let you know of any updates you need to know about. Keep in mind that wait times for other rides in Magic Kingdom could get a bit longer as well, since there will be fewer attractions for people to experience. The Walt Disney Company and its theme parks have a long and storied history. From stories of Walt himself down through his legendary imagineers, the creation and evolution of each of the company’s films, characters, and theme parks have a cavalcade of tales surrounding them. Magic Kingdom However, for every astounding true story, there are myths and legends that, despite being oft-repeated, have no truth to them. We polled our readers and members of the DFB team to get their takes on what myths they or others have believed for way too long. Walt’s Frozen Several readers, as well as team members, shared that either they themselves or others they’ve encountered clung to the belief that Walt Disney was “frozen” just prior to his death, and was currently in stasis at one of Disney’s parks (often rumored to be Disneyland or EPCOT). Walt Disney According to PBS, the genesis of the rumor stemmed from incident week’s after Disney’s death, when “a reporter for a tabloid newspaper called The National Spotlite claimed he had snuck into St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank, directly across the street from the Disney studios and where he was treated during his final illness. As the story went, the reporter disguised himself as an orderly, broke into a storage room, and saw the deceased Disney suspended in a cryogenic metal cylinder!” No, Walt isn’t frozen under Dreamer’s Point There is zero truth to this myth. Walt was cremated two days after his death, and his ashes were interred at the family mausoleum in the Forrest Lawn Cemetery of Glendale, California. Disney’s daughter Diane bluntly refuted the rumor in the early 1970s, saying, “There is absolutely no truth that my father, Walt Disney, wished to be frozen. I doubt that my father had ever heard of cryonics.” Disney’s Weather Dome There’s a longstanding belief amongst some park goers that Disney is able to control the weather around Disney World, either through advanced environmental manipulation or even some sort of dome. A rainy Hollywood Studios Suffice it to say, there’s no truth to this. Beyond its general implausibility, think about it: If Disney could control the weather, why would they allow summer heat, winter cold, daily rainstorms, or even occasional hurricanes to interfere with resort operations? River of Poop For several decades now, a persistent story — perpetuated at times by Cast Members and tour guides — is that the brown sections of pavement in the Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Square were meant to emulate a “river of poop” as colonial Americans would supposedly dump their chamber pots in the middle of the street. Poop? The truth is much less interesting. The section of walkway now described as the poop river was actually cobblestone or flagstone paving at the time of the park’s opening in 1971. However, it was really hard on the parade floats and on the performers in the parades, so in the early 90s it was replaced with a very fine pebble, like a flatter smoother representation of cobblestone or flagstone. Liberty Square As per most sources, it was not the original intention to replicate feces being thrown into the street when the land was designed and highly unlikely it ever became the intention due to the historical inaccuracy of the poop, running down the middle of the road, and the fact that the poop takes up the entire walkway as that strip of pebble widens at the entrance to frontier land. Furthermore, a “river of poop” in that area of the square wouldn’t even be historically accurate. Most colonial homes and businesses used chamber pots, which were emptied into back alleys, gutters near curbs, or privy pits (outhouses) behind the home. People sometimes threw waste into the street, but they did it from upper windows or porches, and it ran into side gutters, not down the center. Liberty Square While some Imagineering sources have still claimed that the “river of poop” was intentional, we’re ruling this myth as a case of fan/cast lore evolving into “accepted canon”, not because it was designed that way, but because it sounded plausible, fit the theme, and stuck. “Andy’s Coming” One of the more modern Disney myths is the viral story that Cast Members portraying Toy Story characters will fall to the floor and lie still to mimic the characters from the films, if someone says “Andy’s coming!” While there is some photographic evidence to show this may have happened in isolated incidents, it was never the case across the board, and Disney’s since put a stop to the practice completely for safety reasons. ©Theme Park Insider Despite being disproven ages ago, these Disney myths still live on in the minds of tourists and the mouths of some Cast Members to this day! As a cast member, each day I walk into work at Walt Disney World I can feel myself stepping into history. From strolling the famous utilidors under Magic Kingdom to examining a disassembled teacup at Central Shops, I’ve had so many moments that eight-year-old me would never believe. But the most unbelievable part, by far, is that I’m typing this from backstage at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (which only cast members can access). This is where Walt Disney Animation Studios created the beloved classic, “Lilo & Stitch,” which inspired the new live-action take on the film of the same name, now in theaters. And today you’re in luck because I’m taking you with me, for the first time, inside Walt Disney Feature Animation Florida at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Along the grand tour, we’ll go back in time to the opening of the Feature Animation building, chat with Clark Spencer, the producer of the animated “Lilo & Stitch” and now president of Disney Animation, about his days here backstage, and I’ll tell you a bit about today’s Feature Animation office vibes where legendary Disney works came to life. Walt Disney Feature Animation Florida As we celebrate the continuous success of “Lilo & Stitch,” now in theaters, let’s visit the birth place of the original animated classic of the same name, that was released in 2002, over a decade after Walt Disney Feature Animation Florida started to help produce Disney Animation classics such as “The Little Mermaid,” (1989) “Beauty and the Beast,” (1991) “Aladdin,” (1992) and “The Lion King” (1994). In these early years, the work was sketched and inked under the watchful eyes of curious guests touring through The Magic of Disney Animation (currently where Star Wars Launch Bay stands today). The tour opened with the park in 1989, winding groups of guests behind the desks of the animators. Nine years later, just before the release of “Mulan” (1998), an additional four-story Feature Animation building was added next to the Magic of Disney Animation to accommodate the growing animation team. The grand opening ceremony commenced on the afternoon of April 22, 1998, with Roy E. Disney (nephew of Walt Disney and then vice chairman of The Walt Disney Company) and Michael Eisner (then chairman and CEO) who were fresh from opening Disney’s Animal Kingdom that same morning. A blustery storm threatened the grand opening of Feature Animation. Disney, Eisner, and Peter Schnieder (then president of Walt Disney Feature Animation) presented from a temporary stage. Eisner’s tie blew over his shoulder as Disney started to compare the overcast day to the time his uncle Walt orchestrated the 1960 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies. Disney said of the end of the snowstorm that nearly canceled the 1960 Opening Ceremonies, “The sky opened up, the sun shone down on the ceremony, and it was perfect.” The wind picked up at Feature Animation, almost too loud to hear him continue, “And ever since then, it was known as ‘Walt’s Miracle.’ We all believe to this day that if Walt likes stuff we do, he brings the good weather …” As if on cue, the wind at Feature Animation stopped and the sun came out over the crowd. Roy smiled and finished, “And he loves it!” Amid cheers, Feature Animation Florida was open. The Making of Lilo & Stitch at Feature Animation A small section of the first floor at the new Feature Animation building also became a part of the Magic of Disney Animation tour through a set of windows where the buildings connected. Guests were able to able to see desks and cubicles where work on “Lilo & Stitch” was soon underway. Director duo Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois led the effort, with one of Sanders’ old sketches of a weird little alien creature who eventually became Stitch, the chaotic blue menace with a big heart. Working off Sanders’ drawing style, “Lilo & Stitch” took on an original look, with soft watercolor backgrounds and unique character shapes. The animators studied hula, Hawaiian language, and got help from cultural advisors to make sure they got it right. Chris Sanders didn’t just direct—he also voiced Stitch, giving the little guy that now-iconic raspy voice. Dean DeBlois brought a lot of story muscle to the table, helping shape the emotionally powerful relationship between Lilo, a lonely little girl dealing with loss, and Stitch, a creature learning how to be part of a family. Clark Spencer, producer of “Lilo & Stitch,” managed everything from budgets to creative decisions, making sure the film’s small team had the freedom to get weird—in the best way possible. He believed in Chris Sanders’ and Dean DeBlois’ unique vision and worked at the Florida studio to help bring Stitch and his ‘ohana to life. Clark Spencer on the Making of Lilo & Stitch To get a better idea of what the days were like at Feature Animation, I asked Clark to share a few insights with us. Rain: Was there an ‘ah-ha’ moment that changed the course of the making of Lilo & Stitch that you want our readers to know more about? Clark: “When director Chris Sanders first started development on Lilo & Stitch, the story was set in Kansas – not Hawai‘i. In telling a story of an alien creature landing on Earth and being mistaken for a dog, Chris knew the story needed to take place in a remote, small-town setting where Stitch could more easily blend in, and Kansas seemed like the perfect place. “But after taking a trip to Hawai‘i, everything changed. Chris was sitting in his office thinking fondly of his amazing vacation and looking at a map of the Hawaiian islands when he thought to himself, ‘What is more remote than an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean? And that changed everything about the story – bringing in the culture and beauty of Hawai‘i and its people. It also gave the story its emotional core: Ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.” Rain: What was really cool about working at Feature Animation in Florida? Clark: “One of the most amazing things about working at Disney Animation Florida was the fact that the studio was in the middle of the theme park. And whenever you were having a difficult day, all you had to do was walk into the theme park to be reminded of what a privilege it is to work at a company whose stories and characters impact people all around the world. It was truly a powerful experience. It was also pretty cool to see and experience the ‘behind the scenes’ at Disney Parks. The organization and precision it takes to manage such a vast operation is truly amazing and makes producing an animated film seem easy!” Rain: Since Lilo & Stitch, you’ve had the chance to see how the animation process has changed. Can you talk a bit about the development of animation from your perspective? Clark: “The animation industry has certainly evolved over the past 23 years since ‘Lilo & Stitch’ was released. As I reflect on my career, I feel so lucky to have been a part of incredible hand-drawn films like ‘Lilo & Stitch,’ and ‘Winnie The Pooh’ (2011) as well as CG-animated films like ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ (2012), ‘Zootopia’ (2016) and ‘Encanto’ (2021). “And while the tools have changed, the one constant is the artist at the heart of each Disney Animation film. There are 24 frames per second, and the artist is sculpting each frame to bring the characters and the world to life in a believable way. I am still in awe of the talent, the passion and the care that is in each and every film made at the studio.” Inside Feature Animation Today On quiet days in my office, about every 10 minutes or so, I can hear Slinky Dog say ‘…woah!’ as he winds again through Toy Story Land. When I walk to my car later, the aroma of “Evil Dr. Smoked Ribs” at Roundup Rodeo BBQ will tempt me. The landscape at Hollywood Studios has changed a lot over the years, but inside Feature Animation, much has been preserved from Clark Spencer’s days. As part of the Digital Integration team for Disney Experiences, I help share the latest news (and history) about your favorite Disney destinations across the globe on Disney Parks Blog. For this creative team, it isn’t lost on us that we’re working in halls rich with Disney history. Each morning, I walk in the doors of Feature Animation, greeted by ‘Sneezy,’ one of the log-shaped ride vehicles from Snow White’s Scary Adventures, and ‘Winky,’ a blue car from Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. Here in the lobby, cast members from all over Disney World often gather for special backstage events, like our recent Earth Day bash where I had my photo taken with a fairy during my lunchbreak. The ’Winky’ car, parked near the Screen Room entrance at Feature Animation On the left side of the lobby is the Screening Room, where animators previewed the films they created here, including “Lilo & Stitch.” The first of many reminders that I’ve entered a place designed from the ground-up to bring creative ideas to life. Rain takes in the beautiful background art on her way into the office The background art display case contains sketches and finished work The background art collection spans decades of Disney Animation classics Down the main hallway, a display case takes up most of the left wall. Inside are over 50 background prints and sketches from Disney Animation films including, “Meet the Robinsons,” “Alice in Wonderland,” and “Hercules.” A set of aqua (and decidedly cartoonish) porthole window double doors slide open to reveal huge blue pencil sketch murals of Stitch, Simba and Mushu on the walls. Blue pencil sketches of characters can be found all over the walls on every floor of Feature Animation I report to the third floor by way of a big staircase that spirals up the grand atrium at Feature Animation. A skylight apex pours sunlight over four stories of balconies, bridges, and glass block panels. The atrium and stairway have the same color scheme and much of the same decor as in this photo from 2001. The atrium and stairway have the same color scheme and much of the same decor as in this photo from 2001. The atrium and stairway have the same color scheme and much of the same decor as in this photo from 2001. Interplay between the floors is a running theme throughout the architecture that adds to its cartoonish spirit; it’s easy to find seemingly random bridges, overlooks and keyhole openings to floors below. Dumbo has soared through the Feature Animation atrium since the opening of the building In the bright atrium, cast members can eat lunch near tropical foliage where a Dumbo ride vehicle poses in mid-flight amid the fronds. Here I wonder which animators also looked up at the preserved ‘90s architecture that freely mixes with retro art deco style: Patterned carpeting, chrome, and shades of aquamarine and coral are diffused throughout Feature Animation. The grand staircase is a treasure trove of animation history and sweeping Art Deco style Creative Inspiration Around Every Corner Each floor of Feature Animation is themed to a film that was worked on by the Walt Disney Feature Animation Florida team. Meeting rooms are named after characters, sweeping murals demonstrate animation methods, and the building is a veritable museum of framed original sketches, storyboards, and character studies. The first floor is themed after “Brother Bear” (2003) with conference rooms named Denahi and Sitka. Every day as I climb the stairs past the second “Mulan-” themed floor, I resist the urge to examine, again, the paint swatches in the color study for the “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” scene or the Grandmother Fa sketch collection. Nearby, a full mural of “Mulan” characters stretches down the hall. ”Mulan” color studies line the grand spiraling staircase. The Mulan mural on the second floor of Feature Animation Artifacts at Feature Animation include inspiration for the films. Arriving on the third floor (which we all lovingly call the “Stitch floor”), I’m greeted every day by a mounted Elvis Presley “Blue Hawaii” record, kicking off a “Lilo & Stitch” mural that stretches toward my office. The 69-foot Lilo & Stitch mural on the third floor of Feature Animation The pieces I linger by most often are the detailed character studies of Stitch and Lilo near the stairway, maybe making me late to a meeting in the “Cobra Bubbles” room. Office and meeting room name plates appear in Art Deco style You can also find me hustling upstairs to a meeting in “Timon” or “Nala” on the fourth floor. Here, you guessed it, the theme is Disney Animation’s “The Lion King,” for which about 20 minutes of the film, including the “I Just Can’t Wait to be King’ musical sequence was animated by the Florida team. A large animation desk is still plugged in and lit up at Feature Animation Every day, cast members mingle with reminders of the past sprinkled throughout the building. Tucked away on the third floor, one of the hulking animation desks sits with its light box still shining bright next to a collection of film editing equipment. A panel of frosted windows faces an office area where animators used to sit Frosted windows on the first floor are a remnant of the spot where guests could watch animators at work and just around the corner, and in this area, the grand lighting emulates the Art Deco style of the Hollywood Studios entrance gate. Caption: I wouldn’t have known about this case if not for the help of another cast member at Feature Animation, excited to share this display local to their work area. There are so many bits of history here to discover, in fact, that while working on the photoshoot for this very story, I heard from another cast member about an entire wall of specialty paints and inks that were used by animators. Here, colors like “Disney Bengal Rose” are in the same jugs and jars from the days of ink and paint. Caption: Closer inspection reveals the names of specialty color mixes used in Disney Animation. Creative Inspiration from Animation History In the former mailroom, a wall of animation team notes and sketches can still be perused, which include signatures from Clark Spencer, Chris Sanders, and Roy E. Disney. This might be the boldest reminder of the legendary personalities that once walked these halls. From the lobby to the atrium to my office and all the hidden gems in between, cast members who work here often swap looks of amazement and honestly nerd out together about the animation history around us every day. There are many days when I discover a new artifact just around the corner or just wonder what conversations about my favorite little blue alien happened right in my office. Andreas Deja and Alex Kupershmidt were original animators for the characters of Lilo and Stitch in the production of the 2002 film To the team who worked to bring Disney Animation classics like “Lilo & Stitch” to life, know that those of us who walk in the doors today count ourselves lucky to be inspired by your creative legacy. It’s an incredible opportunity and honor to continue to share Disney stories right here at Feature Animation Florida. Be sure to stream the 2004 animated hit, “Lilo & Stitch”, exclusively on Disney+. We’ve got an incoming transmission for Star Wars fans: Disney and Coca-Cola are joining forces for an out-of-this-world collaboration, and the refreshment is strong with this one. A Storied History of Creativity and Collaboration “Coca-Cola x Star Wars: Refresh Your Galaxy” celebrates the power of fandom and community, seeking to unite fans throughout the galaxy. For many years, Disney has helped create opportunities for Star Wars enthusiasts to come together and honor the legacy of these classic films, whether it be through Disney After Dark: Star Wars Nite at Disneyland park, Star Wars Celebration or the annual May the 4th holiday. This collaboration with Coca-Cola is another avenue for fans to connect through limited-edition products, fun creative content and an interactive augmented reality experience. Disneyland Resort recently kicked off their 70th Celebration, and this collaboration builds on the 70-year relationship between Disney and Coca-Cola that began with the opening of Disneyland park in 1955. While it all started at The Happiest Place on Earth, guests today can enjoy Coca-Cola products at various Disney destinations around the globe and will now have a fresh way to engage with these Star Wars–themed beverages for a limited time. Find the Force in Every Bottle The foundation of this campaign is new creative content across TV, digital platforms and physical activations that is set in a movie theater – which has long been a location for fans to experience the magic and memories of both Coca-Cola and Star Wars. Another key component is the exclusive Coca-Cola pack designs featuring iconic Star Wars imagery. In total, there will be 30 specialty cans and bottles available for purchase: 27 in select markets around the world and three only available at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Fans will be sent on an intergalactic journey to collect their favorite Star Wars icons, with product showcasing a variety of characters and scenes, including: Original Taste: Lando Calrissian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Queen Amidala, Kylo Ren, Ahsoka Tano, Darth Maul, K-2SO, Boba Fett, Poe Dameron, The Mandalorian, Cassian Andor, General Grievous and Emperor Palpatine Zero Sugar: Darth Vader, Yoda, Princess Leia, Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Han Solo, BB-8, C-3PO, R2-D2, Finn, Rey, Grogu and an Imperial Stormtrooper Coca-Cola products are the perfect pick-me-up for any park day, and there will even be three special designs available for a limited time only at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort as an extra touch of magic for guests: The Mandalorian and Grogu, First Order Stormtrooper and Chewbacca. With so many characters from across the saga, there’s something for every fan – no matter what side you’re on. Sip, Scan, Share: A New Kind of Storytelling But it’s not just about collecting, it’s also about connecting. Fans can scan Coca-Cola cans and bottles or street advertisements to unlock an immersive digital AR experience, allowing you to learn about the product designs up close. You can also record your own message of hope, inspiration or encouragement, just like a Jedi transmission (or Sith, Trooper, Pilot or Twi’lek!), that will be transformed into a hologram-style video to share with your community. At its core, “Coca-Cola x Star Wars: Refresh Your Galaxy” is a tribute to the content and characters we love, the impact of fandom and the endless possibilities for connection thanks to innovative technologies. “A cornerstone of Disney’s collaboration with Coca-Cola continues to be creating campaigns in honor of fans,” said Mindy Hamilton, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing Partnerships at The Walt Disney Company. “Star Wars is a powerful cultural force around the world, with millions of fans across generations who carry these stories off the screen and into their lives. This custom campaign is for them and inspired by them.” “For generations, Coca-Cola and Disney have shared a commitment to creating moments of joy and human connection,” said Islam ElDessouky, Global Vice President Creative Strategy & Content at Coca-Cola. “This collaboration is about more than just bringing together two iconic brands – it’s about celebrating the power of Star Wars fandom, shared passions, and the strength of community when we lift each other up.” So, grab your droid, gather your crew, and prepare to embark on a thrilling Star Wars adventure. The collectible Coca-Cola designs will pop up starting in July across North America, Latin America, Europe, Japan and Asia South Pacific, and don’t forget about the options only available in our galaxy’s most magical destinations!
