  1. “The Most Magical Party of All” has officially kicked off at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort! And to celebrate the 20th anniversary, the resort even welcomed the debut of an all-new daytime parade. From dazzling floats that include the first-ever Casa Madrigal from the Walt Disney Animation Studios film Encanto to elements of Hong Kong incorporated throughout, we’re diving into five facts that are sure to make you say WOW — and have you grabbing a front row seat too. Largest Parade at Hong Kong Disneyland Turning 20 is a big deal and Hong Kong Disneyland rolled out its largest parade yet to celebrate. “Friendtastic!” features 11 floats, over 100 performers, and 30 Disney characters, bringing the party to the streets in a way that’s never been seen before at the park. Duffy and Friends Make Their Big Debut Duffy and Friends are making their big debut in “Friendtastic!” For the first time, you can catch these lovable friends on their very own float. That’s not all; there’s even an all-new song that was created to accompany Duffy and Friends as they make their way through the park. You can have a listen here: Encanto Casa Madrigal Comes to Life Drawers! Floors! Doors! The Casa Madrigal from Encanto has come to life in a parade for the first time. It’s completely fantastical and magical as the casita’s windows, floors and roof tiles dance along in a way that’s full of music and rhythm. Be sure you keep an eye out for all the members of Family Madrigal who can be found all throughout the float. Touches of Hong Kong in the Parade With a parade that’s made for Hong Kong, it was important to include elements that represent its home throughout. On the opening and finale floats, you’ll notice colorful flowers blossoming. These are inspired by the Bauhinia flower, which represents Hong Kong and can be found on its flag. As for the Zootopia skyline, inspiration was found just a few miles over in the city of Hong Kong. If you look closely, you’ll see a sign for Lion Rock, which is a mountain that can be found in the city. There’s also signage for “Cowoon,” which plays off the area of Kowloon and, of course, there’s a bubble tea billboard, which is a well-loved drink by those in Hong Kong. Mickey Mouse is Bringing Back Drumming Have you missed Mickey Mouse playing the drums as much as we have! He’s back showing off his skills just for “Friendtastic!”. And if you’re wondering if he’s playing live? Well, of course he is! We can’t wait for you to visit Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and celebrate “The Most Magical Party of All”! 2. When planning a trip to Disney World, one thing to always look out for is the peak and off-peak periods! Cinderella Castle We’re looking ahead to Halloweentime at Disney World, because there might be some times in October you’re going to want to avoid. Let’s take a look at those dates! We’re anticipating October 20th through the 23rd to be dates to avoid! The Gartner IT Symposium Expo is coming to Disney World and will run at the Swan and Dolphin Resort, bringing in a lot of guests to the parks. It’s not even that the parks may be busy; it’s the fact that the expo usually buys out a whole park, or they have in past years. This causes the park that’s bought out to close early. Disney World With the expo taking place at the Swan and Dolphin Resort, that area of Disney World may be busy when it comes to transportation. So be aware that it might be busier traveling from the resort to the different parks. The Dolphin The Swan and Dolphin only use buses and boats for transportation. They don’t have any connection to the Skyliner or the Monorail, so it’ll be the buses and boats that may get crowded at the resort. Swan and Dolphin Speaking of closing early, Magic Kingdom isn’t going to have a ton of full days available to guests starting in mid-August and going on through the rest of the year. We’re entering the busiest time of the year at Disney World with Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party approaching. During those times, Magic Kingdom is set to close around 6 PM so the exclusive events can start. Halloween in Magic Kingdom With the Halloween Party and the expo happening at the same time, we’d probably say avoid October 20th through the 23rd. Happily Ever After fireworks in Magic Kingdom While the magic is still very much alive, certain dates will bring a twist to the usual evening experience. 4. Sure, Star Wars fans can visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland to get their fill of all things Star Wars. But there’s also a way to have some legit Star Wars fun in Tomorrowland, too, through the Star Tours ride. After all, this ride was the FIRST Star Wars attraction in Disneyland. Star Tours However, Star Tours closed on June 30th for refurbishment (aka probably some much-needed maintenance) and has remained closed since then. However, we think the Disneyland calendar just unveiled the reopening date for Star Tours: September 5th. Now, Disneyland already had plans to reopen the ride on September 5th, but as we know, sometimes ride reopenings get delayed…or even happen earlier. However, we looked at the Disneyland page for Star Tours and noticed that the ride is showing hours starting on September 5th, which suggests it will be reopening then. ©Disney Of course, this date could change, and we recently saw a situation in Disney World where a ride was showing hours on its reopening date, but it actually didn’t reopen until the next day. So you’ll want to keep an eye on the Disneyland app to see if the ride will be open during your next Disneyland visit. Star Tours line You’ll also want to be aware of other ride closures in Disneyland that could affect your stay. The Storybook Land Canal Boats in Fantasyland closed on July 28th, with no reopening date announced yet. The Casey Jr. Circus Train also closed on July 28th and does not yet have a reopening date. 6. While drinking around the world remains an integral part of the EPCOT experience, many guests are approaching things in a more responsible way. Keep that in mind for your next visit. Grand Marnier Orange Slush According to Time Magazine, “a 2023 survey from Gallup found that the share of adults under age 35 who say they ever drink dropped ten percentage points in two decades, to 62% in 2021-2023 from 72% in 2001-2003” meaning that as members of Gen Z come of age, they’re drinking less than their predecessors. Experts have attributed this to various factors, including changing laws, altered patterns of socialization, and a better awareness of the potential adverse health effects of alcohol. So, how does this affect Disney? Well, as alcohol consumption numbers decrease, the number of guests overindulging while drinking around the world will go down with it. As someone who has been visiting and writing about Disney for years, I’ve seen my fair share of guests who’ve gone a bit overboard, and personally, I don’t mind seeing that kind of behavior disappear somewhat. The risks of indulging in alcohol at EPCOT should be clear, but to reiterate, they can involve everything from getting sick in the park to engaging in behavior that angers other guests and garners the attention of Disney security. Heck, if nothing else, is it really worth having so much to drink that you don’t remember a day at a theme park that cost — at MINIMUM — $119? Beer flight Now, that’s not that you can’t still enjoy a “Drink Around the World” style day at the park. You can try and limit alcohol intake, perhaps replace it with mocktails, which offer the same kind of unique flavor combinations. Pirna Prix Mocktail at EPCOT in Disney World And, of course, if you’re going to imbibe alcohol — or even just sugary alcohol-free drinks — be sure to drink a lot of water and stay hydrated. 7. Revenue for the theme park segment of Comcast Corp. went up 18.9% in the second quarter after the opening of its Epic Universe in May, the company announced Thursday. Its worldwide attractions’ revenue was $2.3 billion for the April-May-June period of 2025, up from $2.0 billion in 2024. Operating expenses for its parks were up 25.9%, too, but the adjusted EBITDA — a financial measure that looks at cash flow and disregards one-time factors — was 4.1% to the positive. “We’re pleased with the early results as Epic is already driving higher per-cap[ita] spending and attendance across the entirety of Universal Orlando Resort, with strong food and merchandise sales and minimal impact on attendance at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure,” Michael Cavanagh, president of Comcast, said in a conference call with market analysts Thursday morning. Comcast, like other major theme-park operators, does not disclose attendance or financial performance results for individual parks or resorts. Epic Universe is “trending in line” with company expectations and its goal of making Universal Orlando Resort a weeklong destination, Cavanagh said. “Our near-term focus is on expanding ride throughput to reduce early attendance constraints,” he said. Jason Armstrong, chief financial officer, said executives expect Epic to have higher attendance and spending in the future as well as improved operating leverage. “More broadly, performance at our international parks remains strong,” Armstrong said. “However, we do continue to experience pressure in [Universal Studios] Hollywood, and we think it will be a couple more quarters until we lap that.” Comcast officials recapped additional attractions in the works, including Universal Horror Unleashed, a year-round haunt set to debut in Las Vegas in mid-August, the Universal Kids Resort scheduled to open near Dallas in 2026 and a theme park in England, which has a targeted 2031 opening date. “Obviously, we had substantial investments going to Epic. That was a big new launch. We’ll trail down off of that for, you know, call it a couple years,” Armstrong said. “We still have, obviously, a lot of investment going on in parks, including the smaller parks we’ve talked about that’ll sort of fill a little bit of the void. But, nonetheless, we’ll trend down for a couple of years, and then we’ll ramp back up as we approach the park in London.” The bulk of the conference call dealt with Comcast’s broadband pricing structure, the return of NBA games to NBC — along with their debut on Peacock streaming service — in fall and performance of the film studio and its live-action remake of “How to Train Your Dragon,” which has made more than $600 million in box office worldwide since its mid-June release. Overall, Comcast reported revenue of $30.3 billion in the second quarter of 2025, a year-over-year increase of 2.1%. dbevil@orlandosentinel.com View the full article
  8. Three theme parks have just made unexpected cancellations to their holiday plans for this year. ©Six Flags Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, Six Flags Over Georgia, and Michigan’s Adventure announced schedule changes for their holiday season this year. These changes include cancelations to both Halloween and Christmas plans — let’s take a look! Starting with Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, they confirmed that the Holiday in the Park event will not be returning in 2025, according to NJ Advance Media. This is a little surprising considering the attraction has been going on for nine years. It saw the park transform into a winter wonderland that lasted from November through January. ©Six Flags Then there is Six Flags Over Georgia, which confirmed it will not be hosting its Holiday in the Park celebration this year as well. In fact, the park will be closing for the season, according to Fox 5 Atlanta! The closure will begin on November 30th. Their Christmas overlay also saw them transform their park into a winter wonderland. ©Six Flags To add on top of those two, another cancellation was made at a park operated under the same company. Michigan’s Adventure amusement park has officially cancelled its fall season, according to the Detroit Free Press. This cancellation in the fall will include the park’s Halloween event. The event is called the Tricks and Treats Fall Fest, which first entered the park in 2023. Its time did not last long as it will not be returning in 2025. We’re not sure if that is a permanent decision, so we’ll see if more news drops on that. The park will be closing for the fall season, and this closure will start on September 1st. ©Michigan’s Adventure It’s been a season of shutdown for Six Flags this year, as recently Six Flags announced that it will be permanently closing two of its U.S. parks at the end of 2025. The two that will be closing their doors are Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor in Bowie, Maryland. The park’s last day of operation is November 2nd, 2025. ©Six Flags For more theme park news and updates, be sure to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog! 9. OK. We’ll say it: we hate the sight of scaffolding, construction walls, and hard hats at Disney World. Yes, we know that the end result is worth the temporary eyesore, but nothing wrecks a view quite like a big old crane, right? Who remembers when Cinderella Castle looked like THIS back in 2020? Cinderella Castle Construction from 2020 Now, there are two things you should know about me. 1.) I know more about Disney World than the average person, including a weird knowledge of Disney construction projects and permit schedules. 2.) I often wish Disney World projects had a more… expedited timeline. Things tend to take a long time. In fact, we just checked in at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort, and if you didn’t know, that resort is under construction. How’s it lookin’ over there? I’m so glad you asked! Way back in August of 2024, Disney announced that the Wilderness Lodge and Copper Creek Villas would undergo exterior refurbishment work. Then, starting in mid-May 2025 and continuing through September 2025, Copper Creek Villas & Cabins were set to undergo guest room refurbishments. Translation: there’s a whole lot of construction around the resort. ©Disney The good news is that all resort amenities remain available, but you “may see and hear construction work during daytime hours,” per Disney. During our recent visit, we spotted active construction work around the resort. There’s a lot of scaffolding outside! We noticed scaffolding on the backside of the hotel building with construction workers tackling room refurbishments during daytime hours. Despite all the work around the resort, the noise level was pretty low. It’s coming along! A Cast Member confirmed that all roofwork is complete, and crews are currently working on the first three floors of the building. We don’t have an official end date for the construction, but a Cast Member stated it “shouldn’t be too much longer” now that the final few floors are under construction. Fingers crossed! We’re ready for this to be DONE! The bad news is that not all the pathways are available right now. Over near Artist Point, a walkway is blocked due to construction. Some areas are closed We’ll keep our eyes out for further developments, but for now, it seems like there’s still a whole lot of scaffolding around the resort. If you’re planning a stay at the Wilderness Lodge, keep in mind that the resort might not be as tranquil and idyllic as usual. BEWARE the construction! 10. EPCOT is home to some of the most iconic rides in all of Disney World. Soarin’ Around the World First, you’ve got Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, probably one of the most thrilling rides in the parks. Then there’s Living With The Land, and we’re sorry — that ride does NOT get the love it deserves. But a must-ride for so many people visiting EPCOT is in The Land pavilion. That’s right, it’s Soarin’ Over The World. But what if you wanted to ride in the BEST seat for that ride? Well, we’re going to tell you where we like to sit when we’re taking off on Soarin.’ Okay, for starters, our favorite row on Soarin’ is Row B1 — and we’ll tell you why. But other rows are also well-suited for riding that could fit what you want from the ride, so let’s talk about them all. Soarin’ is in The Land Pavilion If you’re not familiar with Soarin’ Around the World, it’s a simulation ride that takes you above some of the most iconic locations all over the world. Once you’re seated in a ride vehicle, you are lifted up in front of a screen. The vehicle moves to simulate soaring through the air as you watch the scenery of the world around you. As you are watching the ride on a screen, and you’ll be riding with others in front of and behind you, some seats on this ride are better than others. Soarin’ Around the World Ride vehicle We do have to tell you that you are allowed to request specific seats or rows on a Disney World ride, but Cast Members may not always be able to give you the seats you want. If you do make a request, you should be understanding if a Cast Member can’t accommodate you. This ride is amazing, no matter where you sit, after all. Soarin’ Queue Okay, now we’re going to discuss the best places to sit while you’re riding Soarin.’ First, let’s talk about the seating arrangement. There are three sections (A, B, and C) with three rows each (1,2, and 3). It’s basically like a 3×3 grid. Your Chief Flight Attendant Our favorite row is row B1 because it puts you in the center of the screen, and you won’t see other people’s feet dangling in front of you, so it’s an unobstructed view of the screen. It’s also where you’ll see less distortion on the screen (if you’ve seen the Leaning Eiffel Tower, you know what we’re talking about, although Disney has SORT of fixed that issue — but trust me, it still leans a little). However, this does put you sort of ABOVE the center of the screen. Eiffel Tower If you want to experience the film with the least amount of distortion and don’t mind seeing feet dangling above your head, then row B2 is a good choice. Row B2 is the true center of the screen (the middle of the 3×3 seating grid), meaning that you’re seeing the film as straight on as you can, so things don’t look like they’re leaning as much. But you will see feet, but honestly, is that really a big deal? Feet If you don’t like heights or you just want to be as close to the ground as possible, choose Row B3. This row still puts you in the center of the screen, but it IS a little lower than the center, so you’ll experience some distortion, as well as feet in front of you. But you will be closer to the ground, and for some folks, that might make this the ideal choice. If you’re not in the center, everything is at an angle! Both sections A and C are on the side of the screen, so you’ll notice more distortion from those seats. However, row 1 in those sections will give you a view without dangling feet, while row 3 will keep you closer to the ground. B is always going to be our preference because it’s in the center, but wherever you sit, you’ll enjoy Soarin’ Over The World, which is FUN. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 12. One of my favorite perks of being an Annual Passholder isn’t the discounts, special souvenirs, or unlimited access to get into Disney World — it’s the free magnet! Disney World Annual Pass These magnets are a rite of passage, whether you decorate your fridge or anywhere else magnetic. It shows off that you’re a Disney World Annual Passholder, and because of that, you’re cool! Disney just teased a new magnet, so get ready to plan another trip to Disney World. That looks like Finding Nemo to us! Will it be Nemo, Marlin, Squirt, Crush, or Dory? We have no idea, but whoever it is, we’re excited to add another magnet to the collection. We’re big Nemo fans! These magnets are typically here for a limited time, around four to eight weeks, and they’re usually available for pick up at one of the major gift shops in the parks. Because this is themed to Finding Nemo, I’d be willing to bet that it will be available at the Creations Shop in EPCOT. Lines for magnet pickup The last magnet was Maleficent and was available from May 14th to July 31st. You’ll need to show your park ticket, which can be on your phone, the physical card, or a linked MagicBand, and a government-issued photo ID. You can’t pick up magnets for other people, so make sure your whole family is there if everyone is an Annual Passholder. Here she is! We can’t wait to see this new design, so make sure you’re following Disney Food Blog for more details once it’s announced. 14. “Inside the Worlds of Epic Universe,” an hourlong TV special about the making of Epic Universe theme park, will air on NBC at 9 p.m. on Aug. 20. The show will be hosted by actor Joe Manganiello. Manganiello will explore the creation of the park’s five worlds, and the program will include an interview with filmmaker Steven Spielberg plus appearances by Bowen Yang (“Saturday Night Live,” “Wicked”) and his podcast co-host Matt Rogers; Mason Thames and Nico Parker from the recent live action “How to Train Your Dragon” film; and Warwick Davis from the “Harry Potter” movies. The show, which will be available for streaming on Peacock as of Aug. 21, will also have interviews with Bryce Dallas Howard (“Jurassic World”), Vin Diesel (“Fast & Furious” flicks), Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “Wicked”) and Jon M. Chu, who directed both “Wicked” and “Wicked: For Good,” which is set to debut in theaters Nov. 21. Epic Universe theme park officially opened to the public in Orlando on May 22. (Willie J. Allen Jr./Orlando Sentinel)“As a kid growing up a huge fan of the movies, I couldn’t be more excited about diving into these immersive worlds that bring some of my all-time favorite characters to life,” Manganiello said in a news release. “Joe’s sense of adventure and ability to connect with fans through cinema and beyond makes him the perfect host to lead audiences on this journey as they experience firsthand the magic in this new chapter of immersive storytelling,” said Jen Neal, executive vice president of live events and Specials, NBCUniversal Entertainment. Manganiello’s credits include hosting NBC’s “Deal or No Deal Island,” HBO’s “True Blood” and films such as “Magic Mike,” “Justice League” and “Pee-wee’s Big Holiday.” Peacock has also scheduled a three-part docuseries named “Epic Ride: The Story of Universal Theme Parks” for later this year. Dates have not been released. Universal Orlando, NBC and Peacock are part of the Comcast corporate family. Epic Universe opened May 22. The park features five distinct, themed worlds including Celestial Park, Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic and How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk. It was the first theme park to open in Orlando in more than 25 years. Email me at dbevil@orlandosentinel.com. BlueSky: @themeparksdb. Threads account: @dbevil. X account: @themeparks. 15. While Walt Disney World features some of the most technologically advanced and thematically immersive attractions in the world… Rise of the Resistance …the resort is also home to rides — including some classic favorites — that are in desperate need of some TLC. Spaceship Earth Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to see EPCOT’s weenie attraction changed to its very core. I’m not rooting for Time Racers — the failed 1990s blue sky project that would have seen the interior of the sphere ripped out and replaced by a roller coaster — to make a return. However, the existing dark ride needs some TLC. EPCOT A major refurbishment for the ride was announced in 2020, and was supposed to feature “new scenes reflecting the universal nature of the human experience. A new guide and all-new narration will focus on the storytelling that brings people together.” However, the project was paused with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and was not continued. ©Disney In 2025, Disney announced that the ride would be closing for a refurbishment on August 25th; however, there’s no indication that this will be more than simple maintenance. With her support, we can do anything. Mission Space Since pretty much the day it opened in 2003, EPCOT’s Horizons replacement has been controversial… at best. From the get-go, the ride faced criticism for inducing nausea among riders. Mission: Space’s ride system, a “multiple-arm centrifuge that achieves the illusion of acceleration by spinning and tilting sealed capsules during the four-minute “mission,” spun at such a rate that Disney actually needed to install vomit bags and benches near the exits for sick riders. The issue has plagued the attraction for the two decades, to the point that the original ride experience was renamed the Orange Mission, while a new, tamer Green Mission (which doesn’t feature spinning) was introduced to placate those who suffer from motion sickness. Mission: SPACE In addition to these issues, many would argue the ride hasn’t aged well in other ways. It’s aesthetic and design is very early 2000s, and the ride’s storyline of an astronaut training simulator doesn’t hold up well compared to the heavily-themed and immersive rides, lands, and attractions that have come to dominate the theme park space (no pun intended) over the last two decades. Suffice to say, it seems that Mission Space could use a refurbishment and refresh similar to its neighbor, Test Track, if not a complete replacement. Mission Space is known for making people nauseous! Tomorrowland Speedway Much like its Disneyland sister attraction, Autopia, the Tomorrowland Speedway and its faux cars have been a part of the Magic Kingdom for decades. However, also like its west coast counterpart, the attraction seems woefully out of date in both theme and execution. This massive plot of Tomorrowland is in desperate need of redevelopment. Tomorrowland Speedway Carousel of Progress Now, to be clear, I don’t want to see 3/4ths of this show go anywhere, as the show has been a favorite of mine for the 30+ years I’ve been visiting Disney World. However, the finale segment, which was added to the 1964 World’s Fair classic on the occasion of its 30th anniversary in 1994, is woefully dated (and not in the museum-preserved way that the earlier segments present themselves). Instead, it’s a pastiche of 1990s culture and slang that is supposed to represent the “future.” Disney needs to change this ASAP. The 2000s as envisioned in 1994 is just a bit out of date in 2025 Star Tours This final entry isn’t about the ride itself. In fact, Star Tours was completely transformed into Star Tours: The Adventure Continues in the early 2010s, and the ride film has been updated regularly with new Star Wars content ever since. However, our issue is with the theme and queue. Star Tours in Disney’s Hollywood Studios Currently, Hollywood Studios’ Star Tours is a hodgepodge of themes. Outside is a recreation of the Ewok village — complete with an AT-AT — from Return of the Jedi, the interior queue is a recreation of a spaceport soundstage, and the exit gift shop is a Star Wars prequel-era Tattooine trading post. In other words, it’s a bizarre mix that could definitely use some refurbishment and retheming. Tatooine Traders These Disney World rides could definitely use some modernization and enhancements to reach the levels seen across the rest of the resort. Stay tuned to DFB for more on Disney World! 16. Oof the most important parts of your Disney World day (in our opinion) is what you choose to eat! There are lots of great options for snacks and meals in the parks, but there are also some less-than-stellar eats to watch out for. Mickey Pretzel I’ve been eating at Disney World for many years, and have tried just about everything there is to eat there. Now, I — and the rest of the DFB team– am here to help you find the best possible food, drinks, and snacks! Come along with us to see the best places to eat in Magic Kingdom. In this post, we ranked the 5 best table service restaurants, counter service restaurants, and the 3 best places to get a snack or treat in Walt Disney World’s original park. Now, on to the best eats! Table Service Restaurants You will need a reservation for table service restaurants in Disney World. You can start making those reservations 60 days before your trip. These meals tend to be more expensive than most counter service meals, and they’re also usually bigger and fancier. But which table service spot should you choose? We’ve got the answer. 5. Be Our Guest Restaurant Coming in at number 5 is the Be Our Guest Restaurant. At this Fantasyland restaurant, you can dine inside the Beast’s castle from the classic 1991 animated film Beauty and the Beast! There are actually 3 different themed dining rooms: the ballroom (scene of the film’s iconic dance), the original-to-the-park art gallery, and the dark West Wing, complete with the Beast’s ominous portrait. The Grand Ballroom in Be Our Guest Restaurant This restaurant only serves lunch and dinner, and both feature a prix fixe menu, meaning you’ll pay one set cost and then choose an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Eating in a castle doesn’t come cheap — currently, the meal costs $72 for adults and $43 for kids. Steak Frites In our experience, the food here has been pretty good (especially the French Onion Soup!) but not amazing. Truthfully, this restaurant is all about the ambiance, theme, and experience. PROS: Beautiful setting — don’t forget to walk around and see all the different rooms. You might meet the Beast! It has good food (albeit not incredible food). CONS: It’s pricey for what you get. There’s only a prix fixe menu available (no option to get a la carte instead). The meal can take a while, so you’ll lose time in the park. OVERALL: 7/10 Click here for our most recent review of Be Our Guest Restaurant. 4. Crystal Palace Crystal Palace is located at the top of Main Street, U.S.A., with views of Cinderella Castle outside the dining room windows. This restaurant recently welcomed back characters, so you’ll dine with Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and Eeyore. Crystal Palace The food is served in a buffet, with options like carved meats, roasted veggies, Walt’s favorite chili, and a kids’ station. The food is pretty good, especially for buffet standards, with a few unique options like shrimp creole and plant-based curry. More basics Currently, this spot is $62 per adult and $42 per child for lunch and dinner. Breakfast (with the characters) is a little cheaper, at $52 per adult and $33 per child. If you are coming for Breakfast, you have to try the Mickey churro waffles! They alone are worth the reservation! Churro waffle! PROS: This is the only place to see all 4 of the Hundred Acre Woods friends in one spot. There are lots of options on the buffet. It’s not as crowded or hard to get reservations for as the other character dining locations. CONS: It’s still pretty pricey for what you get. Not much on the menu for plant-based eaters or more adventurous eaters The restaurant isn’t really immersively “Disney” themed besides the characters — it’s themed after the Crystal Palace greenhouse in Hyde Park in England. OVERALL: 7/10 See our most recent review of Crystal Palace here! 3. Cinderella’s Royal Table The icon that most people think of when they think about Disney World is Cinderella Castle. So, of course, the ultimate dining experience has to be eating INSIDE that castle, at Cinderella’s Royal Table! Jasmine at Cinderella’s Royal Table The food here is good, but not great. It’s not bad by any means, but what you’re really paying for is the experience of eating in the castle, complete with vaulted ceilings and royal decor. A meal here for lunch and dinner costs $88 per adult and $52 per child, and breakfast is $74 per adult and $45 per child. Jaq & Gus Cheesecake PROS: You’re eating INSIDE the iconic castle — it doesn’t get more “Disney” than that. You’ll get to visit with Cinderella. Views outside the windows of Fantasyland and the Hub are amazing. CONS: The food isn’t great (not terrible, not amazing). It’s expensive for what you get. See our most recent Cinderella’s Royal Table review here! OVERALL: 7.5/10 2. Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen One of our favorite places to eat in Magic Kingdom is also one of the most underrated. The Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen is located in Adventureland, near the Jungle Cruise ride, on which this restaurant is based! According to the Disney legend, Alberta Falls (granddaughter of Dr. Albert Falls) took over the family shipping business and opened up the Skipper Canteen to host guests before or after they go on their Jungle Cruise ride. Skipper Canteen The eats here are more unusual and unique than what you’ll find at most Magic Kingdom restaurants. They’re inspired by cuisines from around the world, so this is definitely a good choice for more adventurous palates. Pao de Quiejo Make sure to walk around and take in all the decor here — there are a ton of details that are easy to miss if you’re not looking! Adult entrées here range in price from $23 to $41, and kids’ meals are $11.50 to $13.50. Oh, and don’t forget to ask about their secret menu!! PROS: It has more adventurous options than some other restaurants. There’s great theming and a cool backstory. The hilarious Jungle Cruise skippers are your waiters. CONS: Menu options are not great for picky eaters. Unlike some other spots on this list, it’s not super “Disney” (unless you know the deep history of it). There’s not an awesome view outside the windows (unlike Crystal Palace and Cinderella’s Royal Table). OVERALL: 9/10 See our recent review of Skipper Canteen here. 1. Liberty Tree Tavern Our #1 pick for table service restaurant in Magic Kingdom is (fife and drum roll please) Liberty Tree Tavern! This might be an unexpected pick, with options like Cinderella’s Royal Table available, but if you’re looking at the eats alone, this spot has the other places beat by a mile. It’s unlimited Thanksgiving food served all. year. long. How can you beat that?? You can have a Thanksgiving feast year-round at Liberty Tree Tavern The theming isn’t super “Disney”; instead, you’ll find dining rooms themed after influential U.S. historical figures. But there’s still some interesting decor to see, and it has a cozy vibe that we appreciate. A full Thanksgiving spread at Liberty Tree Tavern But what really seals the deal for us here is the dessert. The Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake is NOT something to be missed. It’s basically a warm toffee cake served with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce, and it’s one of our all-time favorite treats in Disney World. This spot is also cheaper than most other table service restaurants in this park, coming in at $44 per adult and $24 per child. Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake PROS: You’ll find delicious and filling food (an all-you-can-eat Thanksgiving feast) here! The vibes are home-y and comfortable. We’re in love with that dessert! CONS: The food is heavy — it might not be great for a hot day. There are no super adventurous options (but it’s a good spot for picky eaters). It’s not “Disney” theming. OVERALL: 9.5/10 Click here for our recent review of Liberty Tree Tavern. Counter Service Restaurants Now we’re moving on to the counter service restaurants in Magic Kingdom. You don’t need a reservation for these spots, and they tend to be much cheaper than the table service options. Check to see if the restaurant you choose has Mobile Order available. That can save you time because you won’t have to wait in line to order! There’s a pretty wide range of food types and quality in this park, so check out where you should eat here. 5. Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Café (on Mobile Order) Our #5 choice for counter service restaurants in Magic Kingdom is Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Café, located in Frontierland, just before you get to Adventureland. This spot has Mexican food on the menu, albeit not the most authentic eats you’ll ever see. Pecos Bill But it’s still a good spot to grab a quick bite, and there’s a lot of indoor seating available, which means AIR CONDITIONING. We also really like the queso here, which you can add to any meal. We still miss the miles-long toppings bar, which hasn’t returned since the parks shut down due to the pandemic. Southwest Caesar Salad PROS: Lots of air-conditioned seating More interesting options than just theme park food Queso (need we say more?) CONS: Not authentic Mexican cuisine Food is tasty and not too expensive, but also not super exciting or fancy Miles-long toppings bar is still not available OVERALL: 6/10 Check out our recent review of Pecos Bill here. 4. Pinocchio Village Haus (on Mobile Order) Over in Fantasyland, you’ll find our #4 pick for Magic Kingdom counter service restaurants: Pinocchio Village Haus. This spot has mostly flatbread pizzas and salad, which tend to be a bit underwhelming. However, we’ve really enjoyed a few seasonal specialty eats that you can sometimes find on the menu. Pinocchio Village Haus A big bonus of this restaurant is the seating. It has lots of indoor tables and chairs, and some seats are near a big window that overlooks the “it’s a small world” ride! Pepperoni Flatbread PROS: Some of the limited-time options have been surprisingly interesting and tasty Fun seating options (overlooking “it’s a small world”!) Lots of seating available — it’s a lesser-known spot, so you likely won’t have to fight for a table CONS: Most of the food is fairly mediocre Nothing super adventurous on the menu most of the time — just pizza Dining room can get loud during peak times OVERALL: 6.5/10 Check out a review of Pinocchio Village Haus here. 3. Casey’s Corner (on Mobile Order) One of our favorite places to eat in Magic Kingdom is Casey’s Corner. Is it mostly because of the incredible location right in front of Cinderella Castle? Maybe…but not entirely. This is also the home of our beloved corn dog nuggets with plastic cheese! Casey’s Corner! You’ll find mainly theme park staples on the menu here, especially lots of hot dogs. So if that’s not your jam, you might want to opt for a different spot. But the food is pretty good and, like we said, you can’t beat this location. We recommend eating here during off-peak meal times (such as around 10:30 AM or later in the afternoon, like at 3:00 or 4:00 PM) because it can get very crowded for lunch and dinner. Corn Dog Nuggets! PROS: Amazing location right at the top of Main Street, U.S.A. The ragtime pianist outside makes for a great ambiance Corn dog nuggets and plastic cheeeeeese CONS: Pretty basic menu — if you don’t like hot dogs, this isn’t for you Can be crowded because of its location on Main Street, U.S.A. Most of the seating is outdoors, which means no air conditioning OVERALL: 8/10 See our review of Casey’s Corner here! 2. Sleepy Hollow Refreshments (on Mobile Order) The runner-up for the best quick-service spot in Magic Kingdom has to be Sleepy Hollow Refreshments in Liberty Square. It has very limited seating (and none indoors), but the food here is good enough that we come to eat here all the time anyway. Sleepy Hollow The main offering, much to the chagrin of certain fans, is the $13.99 Waffle with Sweet-and-Spicy Maple Chicken. They’ve also got hand-dipped corn dogs! Waffle with Sweet and Spicy Maple Chicken PROS: Fun and unique eats (we love those waffle sandwiches!) Easy to grab-and-go Good location — close to Cinderella Castle CONS: No indoor seating, not a ton of outdoor seating either Limited menu OVERALL: 9/10 See our review of Sleepy Hollow here! 1. Columbia Harbour House (on Mobile Order) And coming in the #1 spot for the best counter service restaurant in Magic Kingdom is Columbia Harbour House! This restaurant is SERIOUSLY underrated — many people pass it over for one of the more popular spots like Casey’s Corner. But you shouldn’t count it out! It has a surf and turf menu with eats like a lobster roll, a shrimp boil, grilled salmon, and chicken tenders. Columbia Harbour House There’s plenty of indoor seating here (hooray for air conditioning!), and the theming fits in very well with its location in Liberty Square. However, it’s not a super “Disney” atmosphere, so younger kids might not think it’s quite as fun as some other options in this park. Lobster Roll PROS: Not just your average theme park food (caters to both picky and adventurous eaters) Lots of indoor seating Surf and turf vibes appeal to multiple palates CONS: Not a huge variety of options Not many plant-based options on the menu The atmosphere isn’t very fancy or “Disney” themed OVERALL: 9/10 Check out our most recent review of Columbia Harbour House here. Snacks/Dessert 3. Main Street Plaza Ice Cream Parlor If you’re looking for a cold, sweet treat in Magic Kingdom, Plaza Ice Cream Parlor is the place to be. Although it has a pretty limited menu (just your basic ice cream and sundaes), the ice cream is high-quality. The location is also tough to beat — it’s right in front of Cinderella Castle, across from Casey’s Corner! Plaza Ice Cream Sundae Unfortunately, this spot isn’t on Mobile Order, so you’ll have to wait in line to order your eats. Sundaes and floats go for $6.79 to $9.29, and a double-scoop ice cream cone is $7.79. Ice Cream Sammie PROS: Simple and delicious treats Great location (at the top of Main Street, U.S.A.) A cold snack is always welcome on a hot day in Disney World CONS: Not a lot of seating Pretty basic menu (not a lot of exciting eats) No savory options on the menu OVERALL: 7.5/10 See our review of Plaza Ice Cream Parlor here. 2. Spring Roll Wagon Our 2nd favorite place to find a snack in Magic Kingdom is the Spring Roll Wagon, located just in front of the Adventureland entrance if you’re coming from Main Street, U.S.A. These aren’t your average spring rolls — you’ll find the DFB favorite cheeseburger spring roll here. We’ve also enjoyed pepperoni pizza spring rolls here in the past. Adventureland Spring Roll cart Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of seating available in the area, and the price for just 2 rolls is a little bit high, at $9.50. Still, these are unique eats and, in our opinion, very tasty! Pepperoni and Cheese Spring Rolls PROS: Unique snack — not something you usually see in a theme park Good location (right off Main Street, U.S.A.) Filling and delicious CONS: No seating available A little pricey for what you get Not much variety on the menu — pretty much just the spring rolls OVERALL: 8/10 Check out a recent review of the Spring Roll Wagon here. 1. Aloha Isle And the winner for the BEST place to get a snack in Magic Kingdom is Aloha Isle in Adventureland! This is the home of the iconic Dole Whip, which you should not miss. There are also Dole whip floats and various flavors that you can swirl with the classic pineapple, like raspberry and coconut. Aloha Isle The Aloha Isle is home to the iconic DOLE Whip, as well as several variants, including Pineapple Floats, Tropical Serenade, and Pineapple Upside Down Cake. This spot used to be on Mobile Order, but it isn’t anymore. Seating is limited, so you’ll likely have to take your treat to go. DOLE Whip! PROS: DOLE Whips! Seasonal menu changes, so there might be some unique/interesting options Our favorite treat lives here: the Tropical Serenade! CONS: Not on Mobile Order anymore Only sweet things on the menu — no savory Very limited seating OVERALL: 9/10 REVIEW: We Ate EVERYTHING at the Aloha Isle DOLE Whip Stand in Magic Kingdom Looking for more restaurant ratings?! 17. Disney World has doubled down on construction this year, and SO much is happening in ALL of the parks. In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Muppets Courtyard recently closed to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. land. Meanwhile, the Muppets are planning to take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Star Wars Launch Bay Animation Courtyard is also getting a big overhaul: Star Wars Launch Bay is set to become The Magic of Disney Animation, while Animation Courtyard will become The Walt Disney Studios. Well, ahead of the construction that’s set to happen there, Disney World has filed the first permits for work in that part of the park. Disney World has filed a permit to “provide labor, material, and/or electrical for construction” for an address that’s just behind Star Wars Launch Bay and Animation Courtyard. This is the first of what will probably be many permits for this area before the entire area closes on September 25th, and is for a popcorn stand just outside the entrance to the area. ©Orange County, FL Another permit was filed to “provide labor, material, and/or electrical construction” for an address that indicates the Hollywood Studios arch that currently leads into Animation Courtyard. We previously noticed that concept art for this new area does not include the arch. ©Orange County, FL The entire area will be reimagined into The Walt Disney Studios, which will be themed around the actual Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. It will even include the return of Mickey’s Sorcerer Hat to the park (albeit a smaller version of it). Believe it or not, this part of Hollywood Studios (then Disney-MGM Studios) was once a REAL working movie studio where Disney movies and TV shows were created, like Mulan, Lilo & Stitch, The Tower of Terror film, and more. ©Disney Star Wars Launch Bay will become The Magic of Disney Animation (this is where you’ll see Mickey’s sorcerer’s hat on top of the building). The new building will have a story that it’s a studio where the animators have temporarily stepped away, and the characters have come to life to take over. It will also include an experience where you can learn to draw your own character sketch. ©Disney A new playground will also be coming to the area based on Mary Blair’s concept art for Alice in Wonderland. The playground will be full of oversized flowers with musical instruments, a Mad Tea Party playset, and a Tulgey Wood exploration area. ©Disney We’re excited about this return to Hollywood Studios’ history and can’t wait to see The Walt Disney Studios when it opens. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more updates, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 20. We’ve eaten EVERYWHERE in Disney World, and we’ve tried it all. Still, some snacks, entrees, and desserts continue to surprise us! Ale & Compass spread We recently stopped by Disney’s Yacht Club Resort for a meal at Ale & Compass — a consistently delicious Disney World hotel restaurant option. During our visit, we wanted to try as much as possible, including the restaurant’s Seasonal Flatbread — which admittedly had us scratching our heads at first… Ale & Compass Restaurant (a notable difference from the Ale & Compass Lounge) serves up breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and you’ll find a Seasonal Market Vegetable Flatbread for $17 on the lunch and dinner menus when you visit. Ale & Compass During our meal, our seasonal option was the French Onion Soup Flatbread, and we were taken aback, to say the least. This flatbread WASN’T veggie-only, as it featured some shreds of beef. As for the rest of the flatbread, it was literally a French onion soup in pizza form. The beef was perfectly salty, yet thin, making it easy to bite through. The cheese was melted on top (just like the soup) and — surprisingly — didn’t slide off each bite. The actual flatbread was chewy with a few crispy bubbles on the side, while not being overly crispy. French Onion Soup Flatbread Overall, this really was French onion soup in pizza form, which is PERFECT if you’re looking for those flavors without having to deal with soup in the Florida heat. In fact, our reporters would prefer this form of French onion to the soup any day! Salty, savory, and offering great textures — this flatbread gets two thumbs up from us. It’s important to note that the seasonal flatbread changes every few months according to our server, so you’ll want to head over to Ale and Compass ASAP for a chance to try this seasonal offering! 21. On Tuesday, July 29th, a fire started at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure. Hogwarts Castle According to News 6, a tree was struck by lightning near the queue for Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. The Orlando Fire Department arrived at the scene around 7:30 PM and cleared the area about 30 minutes later. There were no reported injuries. Videos have been posted online about the fire and how close it was to the queue. It’s near the herbology classroom in the outdoor garden. In EPCOT, earlier this year, there was a fire in the France Pavilion, which caused Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure to be evacuated. There were also no reported injuries. Both fires were under control very quickly with minimal damage. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in the France Pavilion Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey used to be one of the most popular attractions at Universal Orlando and was the first Harry Potter attraction to open in 2010. As of the next morning, the attraction is open and operating as usual, causing no major damage from the fire. Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure The attraction is located in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Hogsmeade and was the original area before Diagon Alley and The Ministry of Magic opened in Universal Orlando and Epic Universe. 24. When it comes to movies, we find ourselves obsessed with animation! ©A24 We are known for our love of Disney, but any animation is welcome in our home! Now, thanks to A24, a new movie is coming to the United States that we never expected to see. A hugely popular Chinese animated film is headed to the United States! According to Los Angeles Magazine, Ne Zah 2 was released in January 2025 and has since become the highest-grossing animated film ever, making over $2 billion. Now, thanks to A24, the movie is coming to the U.S. on August 22nd. ©A24 The film comes after Ne Zha, which was released in 2019 and grossed $726 million. After the success of the sequel, A24 is producing an English-dubbed version of the film starring Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh alongside Crystal Lee, Vincent Rodriguez III, and Aleks Le. The story of the film is about “a rebellious young boy, Ne Zha,” who is feared by the gods and born to mortal parents with wild, uncontrolled powers. Now he’s faced with an ancient force intent on destroying humanity, he must grow up to become the hero the world needs.” The film focuses on themes like parental sacrifice, dedication, and the pursuit of justice. ©New York Times Yeoh shared a statement saying, “I’m honored to be part of ‘Ne Zha 2’, a landmark in Chinese animation and a powerful reminder of how universal our stories can be. Sharing this with audiences in English is such a joy, and I can’t wait for everyone to experience the wonder, heart, spectacular artistry, and magic of this film on the big screen.” The movie’s first trailer was released on July 22nd, which you can see below. The new film really signaled a comeback story at the Chinese box office. In 2024, box office revenue in China has declined by 25% compared to the year before. This film utilized 138 animation studios to create this “technical triumph,” which became the highest-grossing animation film of all time. At the time of writing, the film alone makes up half of the Chinese box office. It’s sold 300 million tickets domestically, which represents roughly one-fifth of China’s population. ©Everett Collection We are super excited to see this new film debut next month, especially because there was a time when we didn’t expect to see it with an English dub. Astronomica in Celestial Park There are 5 lands to enjoy as you run around the park, including Super Nintendo, The Ministry of Magic, Dark Universe, and the Isle of Berk. While these four are inspired by intellectual properties previously created, Celestial Park was created and built entirely for Epic Universe. Celestial Park is the first land you’ll enter, and it connects all of the portals together in the park. Celestial Park! Celestial Park serves as the heart and main hub of Epic Universe. The design of the land is inspired by World Fair designs with an emphasis on aesthetics from the 1850s and 1930s. According to Universal, “Celestial Park puts the ‘park’ back in ‘theme park.’ As soon as guests enter the imaginative world, they’ll embark on a journey of discovery, thrills, and excitement as they wander through lush living gardens nestled along shimmering waters surrounded by stunning architecture inspired by astronomical and mythological elements.” Welcome to Celestial Park This land, while it might not be your most anticipated, is arguably the most important because of its role within the park. It’s also a great place to find a quiet place to hang out and listen to some soothing sounds when taking a break from the craziness of the crowds. Now, you can listen to the soothing sounds of Celestial Park at home! Constellation Carousel in Celestial Park Right now, three songs from The Official Epic Universe Celestial Park Soundtrack are available for streaming on Apple Music and Spotify!
