Disney’s Lightning Lane system is constantly evolving to fit the needs of the resort, and 2025 has been no exception, as new rides have been added, tiers have changed, and one type of experience has been removed! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure I’ve been going to Disney World for over 30 years, and over that time, I’ve watched the “skip-the-line” system evolve from FastPass through FastPass+, Genie+, and Lightning Lane. Beyond that, within each of these systems, the company has continuously tweaked rules and shuffled offerings. These are some of the most notable changes made this past year. Test Track is Back After being closed for refurbishment for over a year, EPCOT’s Test Track returned in a new — and acclaimed — 3.0 version early in the summer. Test Track! Upon reopening, the ride was immediately added to the park’s Tier 1 of Lightning Lane attractions, along with Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. (Only one of these higher-level Lightning Lanes can be booked prior to your visit.) Ride Vehicle In conjunction with this move, Soarin was moved to the park’s group of Tier 2 Lightning Lanes, two of which can be booked prior to your visit. Soarin’ Lightning Lane Character Meet & Greets are Gone To the disapproval of some visitors, character meet & greets have been removed from the Lightning Lane Multi Pass system. While this may not affect those who focus on rides, families — and guests who simply enjoy meeting their favorite Disney characters — have been forced to rearrange their approach and time allocation. STITCH! Ariel Returns to the Surface Hollywood Studios opened The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure, a spiritual successor to the long-running Voyage of the Little Mermaid show, which had never reopened after the 2020 pandemic closure. Ariel in “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” The show was initially scheduled — and advertised — as being Lightning Lane-eligible before that abruptly changed. It remained Lightning Lane-free until August, when it was added to the park’s Multi Pass lineup as a Tier 2 attraction. The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Joins Multi Pass Earlier this year, the Magic Kingdom’s newest attraction — Tiana’s Bayou Adventure — transitioned from a virtual queue to a standby queue, and became eligible for Lightning Lane Multi Pass as a Tier 1 attraction. It’s Princess Tiana Of note, EPCOT’s popular Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind also transitioned from a virtual queue, though it did NOT become Multi Pass eligible, with the only Lightning Lane option for the ride remaining Single Pass. Cosmic Rewind queue No More Cheap 3-D Tricks? 2025 saw the permanent closures of both Muppet*Vision 3D and It’s Tough to Be a Bug at Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom, respectively. The latter is scheduled to be replaced by Zootopia: Better Zoogether, which may be Lightning Lane eligible when it opens in late winter 2025. It’s a big day in Hollywood Studios! Animation Courtyard We always hate saying goodbye to an attraction as we welcome more construction walls around Disney World, and today is no exception. While we’re excited about the future of Hollywood Studios, we’re also allowed to be a little sad about the new closure. Today is the last day to experience Animation Courtyard before it gets turned into The Magic of Disney Animation. Animation Courtyard Animation Courtyard, including the Disney Jr. Dance Party and Star Wars: Launch Bay, is closing to make way for the new area. The Disney Jr. Dance Party will return as a brand-new show, still themed for Disney Jr. and located in the same building. However, Disney has not announced whether the meet-and-greets and Star Wars memorabilia will be moving to a new location. Lines for Launch Bay During the construction and when The Magic of Disney Animation opens, The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure will remain open and welcome guests to join Ariel in the classic story of The Little Mermaid. Launch Bay What’s coming to the space? A return of classic Hollywood Studios (or, uh, MGM Studios)! Staying true to animation, guests will have the opportunity to attend drawing classes and explore the various departments of an animation studio, where different characters and elements come to life. ©Disney There will also be an Alice in Wonderland-inspired playground based on Mary Blair’s original concept art! This playground will be indoors and feature elements from Tulgey Wood. Environmental conditions are forecast to be favorable for further development, and a tropical depression is likely to form later today or Thursday while the system moves west-northwestward to northwestward into the western tropical Atlantic, well north of the Leeward Islands.” ©National Hurricane Center The National Hurricane Center has stated that it will continue to monitor the two disturbances in the western Atlantic. We’ll be keeping up with the weather news to make sure we can update you on anything that could impact those Disney days. Rainy day in Disney World Despite it not being summer anymore, we are currently in hurricane season over at Disney World. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th. Make sure to pack accordingly, and prepare for wet days at Disney World. Some attractions do close due to weather, so make sure to have a Plan B for any ride closures. There’s no denying that we love a good Walt Disney World hack! However, some people are taking things too far. Shiny! Over the last several years, EPCOT has undergone a massive transformation. From the transformation of rides to a brand new lounge, the park is almost unrecognizable to those who haven’t visited in a decade. As these changes come, we come up with new hacks to help you tackle the parks, but we have to say these latest EPCOT hacks are getting out of control. EPCOT is a favorite of ours. This park is home to so many of our Disney must-dos like snacking around the world, riding Cosmic Rewind, and enjoying a stroll through the world showcase. We love tackling this park during our vacation with our best tips and tricks but if we’re being honest, some of them are getting old! EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival 2024 Setting Sail Around the World The first hack we think is getting out of control is taking the friendship boats across the World Showcase Lagoon! There is one boat that runs across the lagoon from Canada to Morocco and we typically love hopping on this boat so why do we feel like it’s getting out of control? Friendship boats! The first thing is that there used to be two of them. The one we mentioned already and another that ran from Mexico to Germany. The second boat hasn’t run in several years and we miss it every day. The second thing is the lines for this boat have been getting long! World Showcase Lagoon The boat ride is roughly 10-15 minutes across the lagoon and while we appreciate saving some steps, waiting in a long line for a boat ride that will take you longer than walking isn’t always the best idea. If you need it, of course, hop on the boat! But if you’re in a rush, skip the boat altogether and just take the extra steps. EPCOT Boat That being said, we will say this hack is very useful during EPCOT’s festivals. Often the World Showcase promenade is packed during these events thanks to lines snaking from the individual food booths, so if you’re looking to serenely get across the lagoon – or make it to a specific booth – over water may be a good plan. The 6 Best Things to Pack For the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, According To Our Rigorous Testing Not Coordinating Lighting Lanes and Dining Reservations Next up, the next out-of-control hack is picking a dining reservation right next to your lightning lane or hopping on a ride! We love the idea of maximizing our Disney day and when you’re preplanning before you get to the park you’re living life on a high. You think you can conquer the world and that time isn’t real. While we wish that was the case, once you get to the parks things start going wrong. Meal at Nine Dragons Picking a dining time right before or after a lighting lane time isn’t always going to be the hack you think it is. Your 3 PM lighting lane at Cosmic Rewind might be a tighter squeeze to get to your 3:30 PM Chefs de France reservation than you think! The parks get busy, rides break down, and what ends up happening is you’re rushing to make it to your dining reservation hoping you make it within the grace period. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind So give yourself some grace and give yourself extra time between your dining reservations and your ride schedule. Your stress and your stomach will thank you! Speaking of Cosmic Rewind, it brings us to our next EPCOT hack that’s getting out of control. Let’s ride! I Tried the $66 Lightning Lane Hack That Disney Experts Swear By Rope Dropping Cosmic Rewind Ever since Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind moved from a virtual queue to a standard queue system, the ride has become target #1 for many visitors arriving at EPCOT as early as possible. Of course, if EVERYone does it, the ride’s going to be swamped, which leads to long lines all day. You can also buy a Lightning Lane Single Pass for this attraction but those are the only two options! Cosmic Rewind Lightning Lane Inside Disney World’s Cosmic Rewind Coaster: Everything You Don’t See When the Lights Are Out Drinking Around the World at the Last Minute Finally, one hack that needs to go is drinking around the world on the last day of your trip! This is something we’ve done a few times ourselves thinking it would be a cherry on top of a perfect trip. This hack isn’t one that has worked well for us yet. The La Cava Avocado margarita Traditionally it’s ended up being that we travel home the next day not feeling our best physically and we’re adding alcohol to an already exhausting day. While we love drinking around the world occasionally, doing it on the last day by choice isn’t a hack we’re going to attempt any longer. Viking Coffee A NEW Word of Warning About Drinking Around the World in EPCOT in 2026 So there you have it! Our EPCOT hacks that we think are getting out of hand. If you love doing any of these, we get it! You do you! But for the time being, we think we might skip out on these hacks. Bad news for streaming fans out there — Disney+ and Hulu have just made a decision that’s going to make a lot of you pretty annoyed. Disney+ Hulu bundle Yes, it’s time for another price increase. If you were wondering when the last one was for these streamers, it was just about a year ago (could we get ONE year off to avoid price hikes, Disney, please?!), and time has flown by. Here’s what you need to expect if you have the Disney+ and Hulu bundle. Currently, you can get Disney+ and Hulu together with ads for $10.99 a month. However, starting on October 21st, the price will be going up to $12.99 a month — a $2 increase. That may not sound like a lot, but that $24 more if you get it for twelve months, and that can really throw some finances off. Additionally, the Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max bundle with ads will increase from $16.99 a month to $19.99 a month, and if you’d like that bundle without ads, it’ll increase to $32.99 a month. ©Disney However, if you’d like, you can save over 39% a month for one year when you get a Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Unlimited Bundle, which costs $29.99 a month for 12 months with that discount. There was also a cheeseburger option and a mac and cheese option. Chicken Fingers and Fries The chicken tasted like all the chicken fingers you’ll find around Disney World — delicious! They were crispy, savory, and they remain one of our favorite comfort foods at the park. We also felt like we got a decent portion for it being a kids’ meal (but we still could have had more chicken fingers)! Our favorite! With the kids’ meal, you also get a choice of two sides! We went with fries and an orange. Tasty! You also get a choice between a small milk and a small bottle of water. We went with water because it was a scorcher outside! Stay hydrated! Now, for what we got the kids’ meal for in the first place, the Animal Kingdom Souvenir Cup! The cup is a decent size (like a smaller medium drink), and you can fill it up with soda from the machine at the quick-service restaurant. The cup comes with a green lid similar to what you’d find on a coffee cup. Animal Kingdom Souvenir Cup! The cup features different types of animals in different colors. You’ll also find the iconic Tree of Life and the Animal Kingdom title printed on the cup. We love the way this thing looks! We love it! This is honestly one of the best deals to get a souvenir at Disney World. This type of cup at the park would probably cost around $10 on its own, if not more. However, you can get this cup WITH a Kids Meal for $10 — that’s honestly such a steal. We 100% think this is worth the grab, plus, who doesn’t love a Disney keepsake?! Kids Meal at Restaurantosaurus! In 2024, I had a really bizarre restaurant experience in Disney World. Big River Grille As one of the reporters on our team, I visit restaurants around Disney World frequently to do dining reviews, and in January 2024, I was tasked with going to Big River Grille on the BoardWalk. At the time, this was a rather under-the-radar spot that wasn’t often talked about, so I was eager to experience it for myself. But imagine my surprise when the restaurant shut down within a week of my visit! Yep, that’s right! One week, I was sitting peacefully at a table enjoying their — somewhat mediocre — menu of sports bar eats, and then a week later, I stopped by to find the restaurant shut down completely. We’re talking doors closed, no one inside. The closure was confirmed by Disney, and at the time, it felt incredibly sudden. My spread Y’all, seriously. This place closed SO fast that I didn’t even have time to write the review. (If you’re curious, dessert was delicious, but the rest was nothing to write home about.) Chocolate Confusion But what’s even stranger is what has happened since. The space has remained entirely empty with no sign in front, no construction visible, and nothing to replace Big River Grille. Typically, when restaurants close down in Disney World, they’re replaced by new, shiny options within a few months or a year. Big River Grille closed It happened just down the way on the BoardWalk — the ESPN Club became The Cake Bake Shop, and the closed Ample Hills Creamery was turned into BoardWalk Ice Cream. So with such valuable real estate, why does this storefront sit empty? BoardWalk Ice Cream Well, it’s not the only spot on this end of the BoardWalk that’s empty right now. Jellyrolls closed earlier this year, and the Funnel Cake stand that used to sit near the entrance to the boat dock is also empty. In fact, the entire right side of the BoardWalk is feeling increasingly abandoned, with mostly just the Atlantic Dance Hall and one gift shop. Stroll the boardwalk! So here’s to hoping Disney has big plans for this resort! It’s in a prime location between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, and with Yacht Club, Beach Club, and the Swan and Dolphin resorts all nearby, any dining locations here could get some serious traction. The BoardWalk has changed quite a bit in the past five years, and we’re interested to see what continues to be added to it in the future. Artificial Intelligence (better known as AI) is making headlines every day. ©Getty Images From Disney lawsuits to its use in the theme parks, AI is a constant conversation. Now, AI is being used as a way to talk to familiar faces who have passed, specifically with a real-life Marvel legend. If you ever wanted to meet famed creator Stan Lee, now is your chance (kinda). According to the Hollywood Reporter, an AI Stan Lee will speak with fans at the L.A. Comic Con. ©Proto Hologram An artificial intelligence version of the late Marvel creator will pose for photos and engage in short conversations with fans at the convention for a fee. Fans will be able to speak with the hologram at the Stan Lee Experience section of the con. It will be a 1,500-foot enclosed booth and will cost between $15 and $20 to enter. (This will depend on if you buy your tickets ahead of time.) Stan Lee dedication plaque in Disney California Adventure There will be “paid opportunities to take photos with the hologram or have a three-minute, one-on-one conversation with it.” Lee passed away at the age of 95 in 2018. During his life, he co-created characters such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Daredevil, and made several cameo appearances throughout the Marvel film franchise. ©D23 For those who might find this choice worrisome, Bob Sabouni, Head of Stan Lee Legacy Programs for Kartoon Studios and a former Marvel executive, has shared that the hologram will not misrepresent who Lee was. “We’ll never put words in his mouth that aren’t in line with things he spoke about in his lifetime,” said Sabouni. He continued to say, “Fortunately, with decades of footage capturing his thoughts on so many subjects, we can build a voice that stays true, not always word for word, but always faithful in spirit, context, and intent.” ©CNN According to organizers, the hologram may also show up in different parts of the con “as a surprise.” They even teased that it might introduce a panel or two. We learned back in February that LEVEL99 will likely be coming to Disney Springs to replace the former NBA Experience, which closed its doors in March 2020 during the pandemic and never reopened. Future home of LEVEL99 We think LEVEL99 will be a great addition to Disney Springs, however, there is just one glaring problem — we haven’t heard anything about it in MONTHS! LEVEL99 is an interactive, social entertainment experience. It is a place for real-world, challenge-based, social entertainment for adults with physical and mental challenges set in artistic environments. It’s like a giant, futuristic arcade and entertainment center. LEVEL99 in Massachusetts The Disney Springs location will be the 5th LEVEL99 location in the country, and it will also be the largest with over 60 challenge rooms and duels. ©LEVEL99 There will be dining featuring a chef-crafted menu, including LEVEL99’s award-winning, Detroit-style pizza. Adult beverages will also be available. Full spread at LEVEL99 at Natick, Massachusetts According to LEVEL99s website, you will “work with your friends to discover new challenges, collect all the stars, find digital treasure and master new experiences.” There will be different types of games, including: Rooms with cooperative games with physical (strength, balance, and flexibility), skill (accuracy, timing, and reflexes), or mental (memory, problem-solving, spatial thinking, etc.) experiences Duels — head-to-head challenges found throughout the venue Art Hunts — “Low-key scavenger hunts involving the playful art found all throughout the space. Each piece of art contains a hidden Glyph. Completing Art Hunts is the surest way of seeing and exploring every inch of our bright and whimsical wonderland, so make sure to complete them while you’re ‘rehydrating’ in your downtime between games.” ©LEVEL99 The last time we got any new information about this new experience coming to Disney Springs was March 24th, 2025! So we’re well past due for some new news. It has been well over 6 months without any updates. This sounds like it will be a really fun experience, hopefully, it becomes a reality! ©LEVEL99 LEVEL99 recommends its other locations for ages 10 and up, with kids needing to be accompanied by an adult. Those aged 11 to 15 will need to have an adult present in the venue and reachable by cell phone, but they don’t need to stay with them at all times. Construction is underway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! A brand-new land will be making its way to the theme park along with a few re-themes and re-imagining. Hollywood Studios Monsters, Inc. Land is being added to the park, while Animation Courtyard is getting a little face-lift. Star Wars Launch Bay is going away with a new attraction taking its place. With all these changes, Hollywood Studios is going to look vastly different in 2026! Let’s take a look at what will change on the park map when it’s all said and done. Monsters, Inc. Land Monstropolis is taking over what used to be Muppets Courtyard (RIP). This area of the park is located near Commissary Lane, Star Tours, and one of the entrances to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. If we take a look at the map on My Disney Experience, you can see roughly where this new land will be situated. Monsters, Inc. will be where all the trees are on the map ©Disney After Muppets Courtyard closed, Disney covered the area in trees on the interactive map, but that area is where we will eventually get to see Sully, Mike, and the rest of the monsters and ride the new roller coaster! We still don’t know when this new land will officially open, but even if it’s not open in 2026, you’ll certainly see construction here. Animation Courtyard Animation Courtyard is closing on September 25th, 2025 to make way for The Walt Disney Studios in Hollywood Studios. This area will be a nod to the Walt Disney Studios lot. If we take a look at the map, we’ll see where this will be located and how different the park will look with this change. Walt Disney Studios will take over Animation Courtyard. ©Disney This update also means that Star Wars Launch Bay will be closing for good. It will become The Magic of Disney Animation where you will interact and explore an area themed for Disney Animation Headquarters. It will still be located at the back area of this courtyard. The Magic of Disney Animation will take over Star Wars Launch Bay. ©Disney A new indoor play area, Drawn to Wonderland, will also be in this new area, and Disney Jr. Play and Dance! show will be getting a makeover. The new Walt Disney Studios is expected to open in 2026, so this will look completely different next year! Star Wars Launch Bay will be closing permanently. These changes are already underway! While we’ll miss the Muppets (but we can’t wait to experience the new Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster), Monsters, Inc. Land is going to be SO cool. In case you missed it, DinoLand is headed for extinction! ©Disney The Animal Kingdom land is closing in early 2026 to make way for Pubelo Esperanza, a Tropical Americas themed land. This new land will feature attractions inspired by Indiana Jones and Encanto. We’ve been following this news since it was announced by Disney in 2023, and we finally have a new update on the Casita ride coming to the park! In a tweet on X, Bush shared that he is currently working on new dialogue for the Encanto attraction! He teased that this means new lines for the amazing Familia Madrigal and even wrote, “you won’t believe what the Imagineers are cooking up.” If it’s so unbelievable, Jared, why don’t you tell us more?! We’re patiently waiting! ©Disney What we do know is that the ride, which looks to be a boat ride in concept art, will begin just as Antonio has received his special gift and his room becomes a beautiful rainforest. You go explore with him, and according to Disney, “You never know what member of the family you might bump into…” Encanto Concept Art at D23 in 2024 In addition to this ride, this new land will also feature an Indiana Jones attraction unlike any other we’ve seen! It will be a brand-new story, even though it will feature the same ride technology as the one in Disneyland. Disney has shared the ride will follow, “the man with the hat” during a time when he has “recently discovered a perfectly preserved Maya temple, and that can only mean one thing: it’s time to explore it. He’s heard rumors about a mythical creature deep within the temple — and he’s got to see it for himself. So, he brings us along on the adventure… but will there be snakes? We’ll just have to wait and see.” The new Tropical Americas land coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom lets guests explore a preserved Maya temple – and the ensuing adventure – alongside Indiana Jones. Along with those major attractions, you will also be able to find the new giant carousel “sculpted by a local woodcarver.” We’ve even seen one of the characters on the attraction up close, and it blew us away! It’s Kevin! We also know about a play area coming, a larger-than-life quick service, and that the new land is expected to open in 2027. We’re still in the middle of Halloween season, but the holidays are heading for Disney World soon! EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays Every Disney World park and hotel gets decorated for the holiday season, and all four parks offer special celebrations, but EPCOT has an entire FESTIVAL! The International Festival of the Holidays kicks off the day after Thanksgiving and runs through the end of the year, and it’s a big draw. That’s why Disney is updating EPCOT’s park hours. Starting November 28th, EPCOT will be closing at 9:30PM each night instead of its usual 9PM closing time. This will accommodate heavier crowds during the holiday season. Festival of the Holidays crowds This typically happens each year during the festival as people flock to EPCOT to check out the food booths, the holiday storytellers, and of course, the iconic Candlelight Processional. The Candlelight Processional takes place in the American Adventure Pavilion and has multiple shows each evening, so keeping the park open later helps to better accommodate that offering. EPCOT Candlelight Processional The Festival of the Holidays has a LOT to do and see, and it can be difficult to fit everything in in one day. Just watching all the entertainment and meeting Santa Claus could take several hours, and that’s not even mentioning the time that you’ll need to do rides and try the food booths. Disney World is in the midst of a massive period of change that’s primed to change the resort forever. While some of these changes have proven divisive, others are definitely for the best! Mickey! I’ve been writing about Walt Disney World for 7 years, and visiting for nearly 5x that long, and over that time I’ve seen a lot of changes I’ve loved… and a lot I haven’t. Currently, massive construction projects are going on across the resort, with iconic rides closing to make way for the attractions of the future, some for the better and some potentially for the worse in my opinion. However, while those projects are still years away, there are several positive things going on in the parks RIGHT NOW! Ride-Based Lounges In 2025, Disney World opened not one, but two brand-new lounges: The Pirates of the Caribbean-themed Beak and Barrel in the Magic Kingdom, and the Spaceship Earth-inspired GEO-82 at EPCOT. Each of these heavily themed eateries takes cues from the theming and decoration of the respective rides they’re based on. The Beak and Barrel is a pirate-themed paradise, featuring elaborate dining rooms filled with pirate memorabilia… Beak and Barrel … themed food and drinks… Plunderer’s Punch … and even an animatronic parrot! Rummy! Meanwhile, GEO-82 captures the “stories, shapes, and enduring legacy” of EPCOT’s iconic attraction in a 21+ environment. Strawberrry-Black Pepper Sour I love this trend towards attraction-themed lounges, and would love to see Disney add more thematically appropriate eateries for rides like The Haunted Mansion and The Tower of Terror, just to one a few. Starlight! The Sumer debut of Starlight at the Magic Kingdom finally brought a nighttime parade back to the Magic Kingdom after nearly a decade. Disney Starlight Following in the footsteps of The Main Street Electrical Parade and Spectromagic, this new presentation – which Disney describes as a “a star-kissed constellation of Disney dreams, brought to life by the magic of the Blue Fairy” – brings a level of kinetic energy energy to the park at night that was sorely lacking. MGM Studios Throwback When the new version of the Magic of Disney Animation opens at Hollywood Studios next year – complete with theming based on the Emmy-winning Once Upon a Studio short that celebrated Disney’s 100th Anniversary, a short film, “moving” portraits, character meet & greets, sketch classes, a playground featuring an oversized flower garden with musical instruments, a Mad Tea Party playset, and a Tulgey Wood exploration area, all designed in the style of Disney Legend Mary Blair, and a new version of the Sorcerer Hat that will recreate the facade of the Roy Disney building on the Disney Burbank lot – it will mark a “return to form” for this area of the park. The whole project is very reminiscent of the classic Disney-MGM Studios of the early 1990s. ©Disney Animal Kingdom at Night This year has seen the return of Extended Evening Hours to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, with the next installment on October 27th. On these nights, the park will be open from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, two hours beyond its general public closure for guests of certain hotels. I love to see this, for the simple fact that Animal Kingdom – especially Pandora – is beautiful at night, and it’s welcome to have the park open after sunset, even briefly.
