Some partnerships just make perfect sense. Disney X LEGO? That’s a match made in toy heaven. Benson Boone X Crumbl Cookies? We see the vision. But the latest pop culture partnership — Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs X Six Flags theme parks — is quite the surprise. ©New Heights/YouTube On October 21st, the JANA Partners investment firm announced it is partnering with Travis Kelce (who is currently engaged to Taylor Swift, by the way) to “enhance shareholder value and improve the guest experience” at Six Flags theme parks. This news comes amid a flurry of headlines about Six Flags theme parks closing around the U.S. Several Six Flags locations have announced closures, including Six Flags America in Maryland and Six Flags Great America in California (unless they extend their lease). Four other theme parks have been closed by the company in the past: Six Flags AstroWorld was located in Houston, Texas Six Flags AutoWorld theme park in Flint, Michigan Six Flags New Orleans Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Six Flags CEO Richard Zimmerman announced plans to step down by the end of the year following low second-quarter earnings; the company reported a $100 million loss within three months. Why Six Flags Had To Close 7 Theme Parks Could this new partnership boost profits for Six Flags? Kelce has not revealed how he plans to work with the company going forward. Kelce and the JANA Partners investment firm collectively own about 9% of the economic interest in the Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. ©Six Flags Well, we didn’t see this news coming! We’ll be curious to see how this new partnership changes things for Six Flags. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest theme park news, so stay tuned for more. Launching soon only at Disney Parks, the brand-new Expedition Mickey Mouse collection is filled with the spirit of adventure, bringing Mickey Mouse to life through a daring new vision – straight from the mind of artist Bret Iwan. Fans may know Bret Iwan as the voice of Mickey Mouse since 2009, but beyond the recording studio, he is also a talented visual creative with a lifelong passion for art and all things Disney Parks. For this collection, he is stepping into the spotlight and taking on the role of lead designer, reimagining Mickey in a way that is near and dear to his own heart. Ahead of the official product launch event at Disney Springs on November 1, Bret sat down with the Disney Parks Blog to discuss everything fans should know about the new collection. He shared Easter eggs you can look for in the merchandise, how the vintage National Parks aesthetic inspired the Expedition Mickey Mouse theme, the power of fandom, and why bringing these products to Disney Parks is a dream come true. Disney Parks Blog: You’ve been the voice of Mickey Mouse for over a decade now, but are also an amazing visual artist. How did stepping into a lead design role for this particular merchandise collection compare to the process of bringing Mickey to life through voice acting? Bret: It’s been over 16 years now, which is somewhat hard for me to believe. It’s funny because being a Disney artist was my dream from an early age. Becoming the voice of Mickey Mouse is an opportunity that I’m beyond grateful for, but never expected. And in some ways, being an artist and voicing Mickey have gone hand-in-hand for as long as I can remember. I’m such a visual person, that when I’m recording Mickey, it helps to picture a little hand drawn character bouncing around. So, stepping into this specific merchandise collection gave me another amazing opportunity to combine my two passions. This is the very first collection where it’s entirely my vision. I did all of the artwork, but I was also involved in making decisions about the color, fabric, textures, stitching, and the overall construction. From a detail perspective, that whole process has been so exciting! But I think that attention to detail when designing plays a part in voicing Mickey as well. As the voice of Mickey, it’s really important for me to know the character: to know his history, to know his legacy, to know what he would and wouldn’t do, what he would and wouldn’t say, and even how he thinks. Similarly, that same detail-focused mindset goes into developing a collection like this. It’s thinking about how things are going to fit, how things are going to feel, how different pieces will be paired together, and what little visual pops are going to really set it apart from anything else. Disney Parks Blog: This new collection is a fun and fresh take on Mickey, with a vibe that feels adventurous, outdoorsy, and rustic. What inspired this Expedition Mickey Mouse theme, and is there a particular sentiment or story that you hope fans take away from it? Bret: My aesthetic, for the longest time, has really been based around vintage national parks and outdoor living. Getting outdoors and exploring is one of my favorite things to do. You’ll usually find me in boots, denim, flannel, and lots of layers. This collection was a chance for me to really think about what Bret Iwan’s Mickey Mouse collection would look like. For the past ten years, I’ve had a collection of posters published by Disney Fine Art’s Cyclops Print Works which are all centered around Mickey visiting different National Parks. I was really inspired by the WPA’s posters from the late 1930s. I think this apparel collection does a really good job of carrying that aesthetic into merchandise — the outdoors and National Parks were a huge inspiration. The title of the collection really just goes back to one of my favorite qualities of Mickey, being that he’s an adventurous spirit. I oftentimes say that my favorite quality of Walt Disney was his curiosity. I think Walt was somebody who was always looking towards the future while celebrating the past. He was always looking for the next thing to do — the next thing to learn, the next way to challenge himself. And I’m not the first person to say it, but Walt and Mickey are kind of synonymous. I think Mickey is the personification of a lot of Walt’s qualities. And so my hope is that this collection represents that same spirit of adventure, and maybe even that spirit of curiosity that I tie to Walt so often. Disney Parks Blog: The collection includes a variety of items, from cozy flannels and utility jackets to everyday baseball caps and t-shirts. It sounds like your personal interests and style really did influence the overall aesthetic of the collection and the merchandise you chose to create. Were these pieces that you saw yourself wearing and is that why you felt inspired to design them? Bret: 100%. There’s been so many great Mickey apparel items over the years — there’s no shortage! It’s awesome that he’s an icon that everybody loves wearing. But yes, this collection is made up of pieces that I selfishly wanted in my own closet. The flannel shirt is kind of a staple in my wardrobe, and I’m really excited because I got to design the flannel pattern. It’s not just an off-the-shelf piece that I put my art on, the flannel pattern is made up of the color palette from the entire collection. For the sweatshirt, I wanted something that felt like a vintage crewneck, the kind that gets passed down from generation to generation and gets comfier the more it gets worn. The utility jacket you mentioned is one of my favorites! The outer shell is a heavyweight canvas, and is very utilitarian with lots of pockets. The small accents, like the tab on the pocket or lettering on the buttons, are some of my favorite details. And the patches, including the large appliqué on the back, leave no doubt that you’re ready to hit the trails, or in this case, explore the parks. Disney Parks Blog: We talked about some of the small details, like the buttons. Were there any other components, like specific patterns or graphics, colors, maybe materials that you were particularly excited about diving into and working with? And are there any Easter eggs fans can look for in the fabric of this collection? Bret: I love that the color palette is cohesive throughout the collection, and I really think it works with the theme. Establishing that first and foremost, helped the rest of the collection really come together. Finding moments for details to carry that theme even further, like on the buttons, was just the icing on the cake. But I’m really excited about all of the art assets that I was able to create and how they were applied as either a patch, appliqué of embroidery. This collection gave me an opportunity to draw Mickey geared up for an outdoor adventure. And there are some great Easter eggs too! If you look at the pattern on the short sleeve button down shirt, tucked in amongst lanterns, trees, and even Pluto, you may catch a glimpse of a few park icons like Big Thunder Mountain, The Matterhorn, and Everest. It was fun to add elements that tied Mickey’s exploration back to the Disney Parks. I can’t think of anywhere else where you can go and get a true representation of so many different landscapes. Disney Parks Blog: This collection was created specifically for Disney Parks. Knowing you are a big parks fan yourself, was it important for you that these products were a part of the park experience for fans, and that they could shop for them in-person while visiting and having an adventure of their own? Bret: I think there’s something really unique about finding something special when you’re in the park. Finding pieces that help tell the story of your adventure is all part of the immersive experience, and I hope this collection adds one more layer to someone’s visit. One more layer to their parks story. I’m a huge parks fan, and I’m often asked, out of all the Mickey projects I’ve voiced, what my favorite is. Well, it’s really hard to pick — I work on so many projects, everything from TV shows to toys and video games, cruise ships, and of course, the parks. But, I always say the parks are my favorite projects because growing up, Disneyland was my favorite place on earth. And to this day, there’s nothing like going to a Disney Park, and becoming fully immersed the minute you walk through those gates. The reason I particularly love voicing Mickey in parks projects is that it’s a performance that turns into an experience, and it’s something that I can go enjoy with our guests. When Mickey comes out on the castle stage, you hear people cheer. When Mickey appears in Fantasmic – which by the way is one of my most cherished projects – you hear the crowd erupt, and you really get a sense of what Mickey means to people. And by extension, what our performances as voice actors lend to that experience. So, yes, anytime I get to be a part of the Disney Parks experience, including this collection, is something really special for me. Disney Parks Blog: Mickey is such an instantly recognizable and iconic character with a very rich legacy. Our fans know and love him in many forms, and I’m sure many of those forms you’ve been responsible for. How do you see this version of him adding to that legacy? And how did you find the balance of staying true to his classic appearance while also bringing something new to the character’s look? Bret: Mickey has had so many iterations over the years. Personally, I’ve always gravitated towards the Mickey design perfected by Freddie Moore. Freddie is credited with giving Mickey a more spherical appearance and giving Mickey pupils, like in ‘The Sorcerers Apprentice’ section of Fantasia. That era of Mickey, the late 30s and early 40s, fit perfectly with the National Parks era I was inspired by, and since it’s my favorite styling of Mickey, it was the perfect starting point. Adding elements like his hat, camping shirt, and shoes made for the trail were just a natural extension of the theme. For me, I think Mickey’s strength has been his consistency. And, rather than trying to come up with a new version, I think it’s important to add to the parts of Mickey that we know and love. Expedition Mickey Mouse isn’t so much a new version, as it is a celebration of one of Mickey’s many admirable qualities. We can all relate to a part of Mickey! Disney Parks Blog: I understand that you and Ashley Eckstein are close friends and that she’s been involved behind the scenes in helping bring this collection to life! Given her experience with Her Universe and designing products for such passionate fan communities, was there anything you learned from her about creating merchandise with fandom at the heart, since you were the one really in the driver’s seat for this collection? Bret: Ashley is one of my besties. I’m so fortunate to have her in my life and to have known her as long as I have. She’s always been (her term) the ultimate “hype friend” and has introduced me to so many amazing people who work behind the scenes to create all the magical Disney Parks merchandise. Ashley and I have worked on a lot of collections together over the years, and there’s nothing like working alongside of of your besties. Her merchandising and apparel knowledge are invaluable, but her connection with the fans is out of this world. I’ve learned so much from her! Luckily, I’m no stranger to the power of fandom. First and foremost, I’m just a huge Disney fan who is so lucky to get to play a small part in a legacy that is so near and dear to my heart. I think the one of the reasons Ashley and I became besties as quickly as we did is we joke that I’m the West Coast version to her East Coast version — I’m Disneyland, she’s Walt Disney World. We’re both just kids at heart who love the brand, love these characters, and love these experiences. Disney Springs Launch Event If you want to be one of the first to see this collection and meet the creator behind it all, join the fun at Disney Springs on November 1 for an exciting launch event as part of the Disney Artist Showcase Featuring Bret Iwan! Fans will first have a chance to participate in a live Q&A with Bret at AdventHealth Waterside Stage, before he leads the World of Disney magical moment opening ceremony when the store first opens to guests for the day. You’ll then have a chance to head over to Disney’s Wonderful World of Memories, where you can participate in a meet and greet with Bret, and receive a pre-signed item. Take a good look at this photo. Take it in. Ahh…the beauty of a Disney theme park at night, right? There’s something extra special about an evening at Disneyland Resort. In fact, one of our favorite parts of spending the night at Disneyland is catching the fireworks show. It’s just SO GOOD. Disneyland Clearly, the DFB team is a big fan of fireworks. The combination of music, pyrotechnics, and projections really creates something magical. And now, Disney has started using drone technology to further enhance its nighttime spectaculars. Thanks to @socaloutdoorexplorer and @whatsupscv on Instagram, we may have an update on a new drone project in Disneyland. Why Santa Clarita? Well, Disney and ABC Studios own two back lots on the Golden Oak Ranch — seems like the perfect place for mysterious drone tests, right? ©Golden Oak Ranch We’ll have to wait for more information from Disney. In the meantime, there’s a lovely little fireworks spectacular you can watch in Disneyland called Wondrous Journeys. It’s part of the grand Disneyland 70th anniversary celebration, which features special shows, theming, snacks, merchandise, and more! Wondrous Journeys If this show sounds familiar, it’s not in your head. Wondrous Journeys has returned for Disneyland Resort’s 70th Celebration! The nighttime spectacular celebrates the legacy of Walt Disney Animation Studios and takes you on a journey through its most iconic stories and beloved characters. From early classics like Snow White and Pinocchio to modern favorites like Encanto and Wish, the show is a love letter to the artists, characters, and stories that built the Disney legacy. The fireworks portion of the show runs on select nights. Wondrous Journeys The Disneyland 70th Anniversary celebration officially kicked off on May 16th, 2025, and will continue through the summer of 2026. Could a new drone show take over this summer? We can’t WAIT to find out! This show is so cool! Don’t forget — the current nighttime spectacular does NOT launch fireworks every night. If catching the full show, fireworks and all, is important to you, make sure to check the calendar before your visit. Magic Kingdom is changing… a LOT. This year, we said goodbye to Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island so Disney could build Piston Peak, a brand new Cars expansion in Frontierland. Disney has also started to build a brand-new land in Magic Kingdom dedicated to Disney Villains (and we cannot wait!). ©Disney However, some Magic Kingdom rides are also changing and should debut with the new changes in 2026. So let’s discuss those changes and think ahead to other future changes the park might need. So we’ve previously seen several rides in Magic Kingdom get much-needed updates. Country Bear Jamboree got an entirely new show in 2024, with new songs, new scenes, new EVERYTHING. In 2023, Haunted Mansion finally got a Disneyland update: the addition of Hat Box ghost (although his location on the ride remains controversial). Hatbox Ghost in Disney World Big Thunder Mountain Railroad However, three of Magic Kingdom’s rides will reopen with new updates in 2026. The biggest changes will probably be seen at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland, which is getting a new track and some new scenes. The ride will feature a throwback to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad’s origins, the Rainbow Caverns. ©Disney In addition, the ride is getting new lightning and effects, as well as an update to its exterior to help it fit in with the new Piston Peak expansion. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has also closed until 2026, when it will reopen with some big changes. The ride will be getting brand new vehicles with video monitors that provide real-time scoring updates and other features. The vehicles will also be getting new handheld blasters. A new scene with a brand new character will also be added. ©Disney The target in the game will be upgraded with new technology that lights up when it’s hit. Carousel of Progress Now, Carousel of Progress has been getting little updates here and there (mostly just to fix things like missing hands ) and updates to the final scene to keep it feeling relevant to the times. But the ride will be getting a brand new intro featuring a Walt Disney animatronic similar to the one you can currently see in Disneyland. ©Disney We might see some new scenes on the ride, too, as Disney stated it had plans for what John, Sarah, and the rest of the family are up to. Disney did NOT offer a timeline for these changes, but we’re thinking we could see those in 2026. What needs to change: “it’s a small world” So what more could Disney do to rides in Magic Kingdom? Well, “it’s a small world” recently received a new verse to the song (after Disneyland debuted it). However, this ride could use a bit more updating. If you’ve been on the ride in Disneyland, you’ll know that the ride has Disney characters interspersed through the various countries. This takes what can often be a grueling ride into something a bit more charming. Miguel and Dante on “it’s a small world” So we think it’s time Disney World’s version of the ride got some Disney characters to liven it up a bit. It’s so much fun seeing Miguel and Dante in Mexico, Lilo and Stitch in the South Pacific, Peter Pan and Tinker Bell in England, and more. Disney World needs that version of the ride. So a lot is already happening in Magic Kingdom, but why stop there? Since Disney World is getting a lot of updates over the next few years, let’s just update more, while we’re at it. Stay tuned to DFB for more. Worst Places to Get Stuck on Rides at Disney World Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Click here to Subscribe! WE KNOW DISNEY. I’m holding onto fall as long as I can possibly can before the twinkling holiday lights start being strung across Disney World. For me, that means eating more seasonal treats! Seasonal Macaron We headed to L’Artisan des Glaces in the France Pavilion in EPCOT to try out a seasonal treat to see if you should stop here next time in the World Showcase. The Seasonal Macaron right now is Pumpkin and costs $8.95. It’s a pumpkin macaron with vanilla and pumpkin ice cream sandwiched in the middle. Pumpkin Macaron Something fun about this macaron is that this is the only way to get the pumpkin ice cream this year. It’s currently not available for individual scoops, but in the macaron, it’s half pumpkin, half vanilla. It’s a black and white cookie where it’s half and half, right down the middle. The ice cream was very frozen and not as smooth as we usually prefer it, but the outside of the macaron is super soft. We found it a little difficult to eat with the soft outside pushing out the hard ice cream, so you might want to wait a few moments before diving right in. It does get messier once it gets softer, but the flavors were great. Half vanilla, half pumpkin The macaron is super sugary and leaves a sweet aftertaste in your mouth. The ice cream is smoother once it melts, and the vanilla contrasts nicely with the pumpkin macaron and pumpkin ice cream. The ice cream has a stronger pumpkin flavor and wasn’t as sugary as the Amcaron, which helped balance it out. Pumpkin fans will definitely want to try this one out! While it’s a little pricy, it’s a fun and unique treat that you can grab during your EPCOT day. Halloween is almost here, which means lots of treats! Halloween at Disney World! Everyone loves to go to the parks at Disney World for all the Halloween goodies, but Disney Springs needs to stop getting slept on when it comes to eats and treats! Raglan Road at Disney Springs made an announcement that NEW Halloween treats are here, and we think you need to know about them. Did you know that Halloween has been alive and well in Ireland as Samhain or All Hallows’ Eve long before carving pumpkins and trick-or-treating became a thing in the U.S.? It was born from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which marked the threshold between harvest and winter, the living and the dead. We’re back at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party! Ireland would be an amazing place to see during Halloween. Imagine being able to explore ancient castles or sacred hills. Since that may not be an option for the spooky season this year, the next best stop is Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant. Tucked away just outside of Disney World is a lovely little restaurant called Four Flamingos. This isn’t just any old restaurant, though. Four Flamingos is a Michelin-Recommended restaurant with an excellent menu crafted by celebrity chef Richard Blais. If you’re in the Orlando area, we highly recommend a visit. In fact, why don’t you go ahead and mark October 26th on your calendar now? There’s a special event happening soon! Let’s EAT! Seriously — clear your schedule for October 26th. A popular brunch event is returning to Four Flamingos this month, and the food is gonna be GREAT. The annual Stone Crab Brunch buffet is back, people! The Stone Crab Brunch buffet is an all-you-can-eat event with Florida Stone Crab and other seafood specialties. We’re talking fresh shucked oysters (YUM), poached Canaveral shrimp, snow crab claws, salmon ceviche, and more. The restaurant even teased that its “Floribbean twist” will be present in accompaniments like the curried mustard. ©Four Flamingos The event will happen on Sunday, October 26th, from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Tickets are $170 per person, and kids’ tickets (ages 12 and under) are $85. Oh, and if you want UNLIMITED sangria, you can upgrade your ticket for $32 with a 2-hour limit. Four Flamingos In addition to the Stone Crab buffet, you can also enjoy a Grouper a la Mojo carving station, a Beef Tenderloin carving station, made-to-order ricotta pancakes, a noshing table, and even a dessert bar. Can you tell? This event is LOADED with great dishes. We’re getting hungry just thinking about those made-to-order ricotta pancakes. Bluehouse Salmon We’re BIG fans of brunch around here — and we know we aren’t the only ones. If you’re interested in attending this brunch, book those reservations ASAP. This event will likely sell out! Keep in mind that the dinner service will not take place on October 26th. The food here is SO good! If you still need more convincing, all you have to do is look at the list of awards this restaurant has won since opening. This marks the THIRD year in a row that Four Flamingos is a Michelin-recommended restaurant. (We LOVED the N.Y. Strip we tried on our last visit!) Hi Richard Blais! Four Flamingos is located inside the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress and is open nightly from 5 PM until 10 PM. The restaurant is located just up the road from Disney Springs (about a 10-minute drive). Don’t overlook this spot if you’re planning a trip to Disney World — it could be a great sit-down restaurant option after a day at the theme parks or if you are looking to celebrate a special occasion. The restaurant usually has walk-up availability and offers complimentary valet and self-parking for diners. Ice Cold Oysters & Pearls Now, who wants some sangria for brunch?! We’re SO in. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. The “Soarin’ Around the World” attractions at the Disneyland and Disney World resorts will trade scenes of the Great Wall of China, Egyptian pyramids and Eiffel Tower for a flight from sea to shining sea when the new “Soarin’ Across America” film opens during the 250th anniversary of the United States. The new “Soarin’ Across America” attractions will debut in summer 2026 at Disney California Adventure and Epcot in celebration of the nation’s semi-quincentennial. The Soarin’ hang-gliding flight simulator attractions combine mechanical lift systems with three rows of seats and aerial footage projected onto an 80-foot-tall concave domed movie screen to create a visual tour tied to a specific theme. Past tours have taken riders across California and around the world. Walt Disney Imagineering will use advanced cameras and lenses mounted on helicopters and drones to capture the aerial footage for the updated attraction. “Soarin’ Across America” will be filmed at 33 locations across the United States with the new scenes capturing a bird’s-eye view of the “scenic wonders, amazing cities and the beauty of the coasts” in a celebration of America’s diversity and grandeur. ALSO SEE: Disneyland puts all 4 Magic Key passes on sale again Imagineering hopes to paint an emotional portrait of the nation with scenes filmed at natural landmarks, national monuments and large cities. “As always with Soarin’ films, the biggest challenge is choosing where to go and what locations would work best in this unique film format,” Imagineering Chief Storytelling Executive Tom Fitzgerald said in a statement. “Now with the 250th celebration, we’ll immerse our guests in a celebratory flight that spans from sea to shining sea.” A teaser video featuring Soarin’ Chief Flight Attendant Patrick Warburton promises a limited-time itinerary of amber waves of grain and purple mountain majesties. “America’s packed a lot into her 250 years,” Warburton said in the pre-flight video. “So you’ll want to pack a lot of party favors.” Permitted carry-on items include Betsy Ross flags, hot dogs, apple pies, bald eagles, bunting, pocket constitutions, powdered wigs and red, white and blue Minnie Mouse ears, according to Warburton. The new “Soarin’ Across America” film will be reminiscent of the “America the Beautiful” film that played in the Circle-Vision 360 attraction in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland. View the full article

We talk a lot about Disney, but if you’re a roller coaster fan and you’re looking for a hometown theme park experience, Six Flags is one of the biggest players in the game. ©Visit Silicon Valley The Six Flags Entertainment Corporation operates more than 40 properties throughout the United States, from amusement parks to water parks to resorts, and its business has evolved quite a bit over the years. In past decades, many of their theme parks have changed operating companies, and some have even been shut down. So with more closures lined up for the future, we’re here to break down the history of the theme parks Six Flags closed. Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor Starting off with a closure that’s coming soon, Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor are closing after 25 years of operation at the end of the 2025 season. The parks’ final operating day will be Sunday, November 2nd, 2025. ©Six Flags Six Flags President and CEO Richard A. Zimmerman said, “As part of our comprehensive review of our park portfolio, we have determined that Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor are not a strategic fit with the company’s long-term growth plan.” Learn More About the Closure Here! California’s Great America Another scheduled closure by the Six Flags parent company is California’s Great America. This park is located in Santa Clara, California, and is set to close at the end of the 2027 season. The park’s lease ends on June 30th, 2028, and will not be renewed. ©Visit Silicon Valley Six Flags Chief Financial Officer Brian Witherow said of the California and Maryland park closures, “Those are two parks that are very low on the ranking of margins.” This park was initially owned by Cedar Fair, but that company merged with Six Flags in a deal worth $8 billion back in 2024. Get More Details on This Story Here! Other Parks That Have Closed in the Past But those aren’t the only parks Six Flags has shut down over the years. Four other theme parks have been closed by the company in the past. Six Flags AstroWorld was located in Houston, Texas and operated seasonally. It closed and was demolished at the end of the 2005 season, according to the Houston Chronicle, with low attendance being the likely reason for its closure. ©Six Flags AutoWorld was another Six Flags park that had to close down. It was an indoor theme park in Flint, Michigan, that originally opened in 1984. According to Michigan Live, it officially closed in 1985 because it didn’t draw enough out-of-town visitors. It continued to host occasional events until closing completely and being demolished in 1997. ©Six Flags Six Flags New Orleans was — you guessed it — a theme park the company established in New Orleans in 2002 after its predecessor, Jazzland, went bankrupt. The park lasted a few years but sustained heavy damage due to Hurricane Katrina. After that, the park was declared a total loss, and the lease with the city of New Orleans was terminated, according to NOLA. ©Washington Post Lastly, we have the story of Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. It was originally a theme park built on fairgrounds, and it went through a few major business changes before being purchased by Six Flags in 1998. They ran the park until 2009, when they shut it down. NBC News reported that Six Flags closed the park during bankruptcy proceedings when the Kentucky Fair State Board refused to amend its lease on the land. But the twist here? Kentucky Kingdom and its Hurricane Bay Water Park reopened in 2014 under new management. So it’s technically still open today…just with a new look! ©TripAdvisor So what’s on the chopping block next? It looks like Six Flags in St. Louis could be the next park to go, though attendance is still acceptable. We’ll continue to keep an eye out for any closure news.
