  1. As of November 7th, 2025, over 1,000 flights have been canceled flying within, into, or out of the United States due to the government shutdown. Orlando International Airport Transport Secretary Sean Duffy said, “You will see mass flight delays. You’ll see mass cancellations, and you may see us close certain parts of the airspace, because we cannot manage it, because we don’t have air traffic controllers.” Many major airports are being affected, including the Orlando International Airport (MCO), the closest airport to Disney World. Right now, only 29 flights have been canceled, either arriving or departing from Orlando Airport. More cancellations are likely to come early next week, around November 10th. There have been about 56 delays, with the most being from Southwest Airlines. Southwest at MCO TSA security at Orlando Airport is currently taking more than 30 minutes for the general line, while TSA PreCheck is five minutes or less. You can check the security wait times before heading to the airport on the MCO website, where they are posted. It’s still recommended to arrive two hours before your departure, or possibly more if you’re planning to check bags. MCO Airport Security Another airport option for Disney World is Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB), which currently has no delays or cancellations and is not on the preliminary list of airports with major cuts. It’s about one hour away from Disney World, where you can rent a car and drive the distance or take a ride share. Orlando Sanford Airport If you’re within driving distance but usually fly, this might be a time to drive to Disney World. The Orlando Airport is not completely shut down; many flights are still arriving and departing. There are likely to be delays. If your flight is canceled, it’s helpful to have a backup plan for how you’re coming to Florida, including other flights, driving, or even postponing your trip. 2. Yes, Disney World used to put up Christmas decorations overnight, and while that was incredibly magical to enter a complete winter wonderland, it’s also fun to go on a scavenger hunt to find all the new holiday decorations popping up each day. Hollywood Studios knows how to do Christmas Even more Christmas decorations have popped up at Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom, and y’all, every year we just love it more and more. Our favorites are back, and we’re sharing the Christmas spirit here with you. Go ahead and grab your Christmas tree out of storage because after seeing this, you might just agree it’s time to decorate. Of course, we have to start by saying hello to Gertie in Hollywood Studios! Gertie is our beloved sea monster who wears a Santa hat during the holiday season. There’s also a huge Christmas tree nearby! You cannot miss taking a family photo in front of the tree. Gertie! Where you scan into the park, you can also see more Christmas trees covering lampposts with colorful ornaments. I wish I could buy that garland for my house because I love the bright ornaments. Smaller trees There are literally so many Christmas trees. I loved taking pictures here during my first Jollywood Nights. Once the sky gets dark, everything starts to twinkle and sparkle. Even MORE Oh, what’s Jollywood Nights, you may ask? Jollywood Nights is the after-hours event that runs on select nights in Hollywood Studios, where it’s Christmas overload! There’s exclusive entertainment (including a show featuring the Muppets), snacks we’ve been dreaming about all year long, and rare characters everywhere you look. It’s an additional ticket outside of your day ticket to Hollywood Studios, but it’s great for those wanting to upgrade their holiday experience. Who’s ready for Jollywood Nights? Jollywood Nights runs from 7:30 PM to 12:30 AM, but your ticket gets you into the park at 5:30 PM for some extra time in the parks. There are often shorter lines for attractions, too, so you can get some extra rides on your favorites. I rode Slinky Dog Dash three times last year! Small details make us so happy Speaking of Slinky Dog Dash, let’s check out Toy Story Land! Woody was there, greeting us with his scarf on and with massive ornaments on the sign. Howdy, Woody! I am being completely serious when I say I look forward to this one decoration every year. I NEED this Hamm cookie in my life so badly. When you visit, please take a picture with him so you can get the pure joy of seeing Hamm in cookie form. He’s my FAVORITE!!!! While these lights are always up, if you look closer at Rex, he’s wearing antlers! Pluto might have some reindeer competition if Rex is around. Gotta look closer! Let’s take a turn and head to Animal Kingdom! Their Christmas tree is outside the park and has nods to different animals and characters. Animal Kingdom has to get into the spirit, too Seriously, I’m obsessed. Tigger is in a jack-in-the-box, and Piglet looks like a stuffed animal. Even Jiminy Cricket is getting his time to shine. Many of the ornaments look hand-carved, which ties into the Animal Kingdom aesthetic. Piglet! I see some familiar faces here, too! The Lion King and Tarzan are represented in fun toy shapes. More details Finally, there’s even more garland by the entrance to Animal Kingdom. These are bright and colorful, and the bows are gorgeous. I could spend weeks admiring all of the holiday decorations across Disney World and never get bored. More garland, too! 3. For years, we’ve been searching for the ultimate Disney World hotel hacks, and we’ve amassed quite a list. Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort From learning the best rooms to request at each hotel to knowing which products are a must-have for a peaceful stay in a place where there are lots of people, you gather quite a bit of know-how when you’ve been doing Disney World resort stays for decades. But recently, one member of our team tried out a “secret perk” for Disney Resort guests, and it was a game-changer! If you’re looking to save money on your Disney World trip, that often starts before you even book. People scour the Special Offers section of the website to look for the best hotel discounts and ticket deals. But did you know there’s a “secret” way to save if you book a Disney Resort package? Port Orleans — French Quarter If you book a hotel and ticket package for your Disney World trip (staying at a Disney Resort), you qualify for the Magical Extras card. This is a special card that you can pick up at your hotel’s front desk when you arrive, and it gives you access to SO MANY discounts. Seriously, this thing could save you a lot of money! Wilderness Lodge Lobby This is a huge perk for people who don’t have Annual Passes to score them extra discounts on dining and merchandise. You can find the full list of Magical Extras for each year on the Disney World website, and some of these discounts are absolutely wild. ©Disney For example, in 2026, you’ll be able to save on experiences like Drawn to Life, the Cirque du Soleil show at Disney Springs, surrey bike rentals at various hotels around property, and a round of bowling at Splitsville. The card also gets you discounts on Balocoloc Venetian Masks from the Italy Pavilion, savings on shipping services at the hotel business centers, and a free suite treat if you board your pet at the Best Friends Pet Hotel. Drawn to Life There are also quite a few dining discounts offered. For example, you can save 10% at Cake Bake Shop between noon and 4PM. And if you know Cake Bake Shop, you know they aren’t cheap — so any bit of savings is a huge deal. Caramel Popcorn Chocolate Cake You can also save 10% at restaurants like Rain Forest Cafe, The BOATHOUSE, Frontera Cocina, and more. This is just scratching the surface of what’s being offered. That’s quite a few ways to save! If you’ve never tried the Magical Extras card before, don’t skip it on your next trip! It could help you significantly. And who doesn’t love saving money on a Disney trip?! Especially when you get the savings simply for staying at a Disney World hotel? Stay tuned to DFB for more news and updates from Disney World. 4. Last night, at about 10 p.m. Eastern, I got the message no traveler wants to see: My flight was canceled. I was supposed to fly from Evansville, Indiana (EVV) to Orlando (MCO) tonight on Breeze Airways — a trip I’ve made dozens of times. But with the FAA ordering mass flight cancelations across the country due to staffing issues and ripple effects from the government shutdown, my plans changed fast. Waiting… According to reports from NBC News, the FAA has grounded or delayed thousands of flights nationwide as they scramble to manage critical air traffic control shortages. Some airports have seen cancellations rise by more than 40% compared to an average Friday, and with Thanksgiving just around the corner — traditionally one of the busiest travel periods of the year — this is starting to look like a major travel crisis in the making. When Breeze notified me, they gave two options: a full refund or a rescheduled flight for Monday, November 10. I chose the refund. My credit card charge was reversed, and my Breeze points were credited back to my account almost immediately. I debated rebooking on another airline for Saturday, but honestly, there was too much uncertainty. Would that flight be canceled too? What about my return flight on November 23 — the Sunday before Thanksgiving — one of the busiest travel days of the entire year? If the FAA-ordered cancelations kept spreading, I didn’t want to risk being stranded. Southwest Planes at Orlando International Airport So, I decided to drive. It’s about 900 miles from southern Indiana to Orlando — a trip I’ve made many times, though I’ll admit it’s usually cheaper and faster to fly. But this time, the decision came down to control. I know I can get there. I need to be in Florida by midday Sunday for work, and driving gives me that guarantee. If you’re facing a similar situation — maybe with a Disney World trip on the horizon — here’s my best advice: Weigh your options carefully. Some travelers can be rebooked right away, but remember your return flight may also be affected. If you decide to drive, think of it as an unexpected adventure. A road trip can be part of the fun if you frame it that way for your family. If you cancel, contact your airline before doing anything. Depending on the fare type and the airline’s policies, you might be eligible for a refund or a travel credit. ©United Airlines Travel often comes with unplanned obstacles, and honestly, I think that’s part of what makes it meaningful. Every curveball teaches flexibility and patience. You troubleshoot, you adapt, and you move forward. What To Do If the FAA Cancels Your Flight Why are flights being canceled right now? The FAA has temporarily limited flight operations due to critical air traffic control staffing shortages, a ripple effect of the ongoing government shutdown. Airlines are being forced to cancel or delay flights nationwide to comply with FAA safety requirements. Can I get a refund if my flight was canceled by the FAA? In most cases, yes. If your flight is canceled by the airline (not by you), you’re entitled to a full refund — even for nonrefundable tickets. If you paid with points or miles, those should be returned to your account automatically. Flying American Should I rebook or cancel? If you have flexibility in your schedule, rebooking might be worth it. But if you must travel soon — or if your destination is within a day’s drive — driving may be a more reliable option. Just check weather and traffic before you go. Will this affect Thanksgiving travel? Most likely, yes. Industry experts are warning that if staffing and scheduling issues continue, the week of Thanksgiving could bring even more delays and cancellations. If you’re traveling for the holiday, consider booking early-morning flights, packing patience, and having a backup plan. At the end of this drive — or the end of your rescheduled flight — you’re still heading to Disney World. And that’s pretty awesome. Keep following us here at DFB for the latest travel news. 6. The very first EPCOT festival I went to instantly became my favorite. From the bright rainbows, the interactive elements, and super creative food, I knew EPCOT International Festival of the Arts was number one, and no one could change my mind. EPCOT Festival of the Arts This artsy festival runs from January 16th to February 23rd, 2026, and there’s a Disney on Broadway Concert Series you won’t want to miss. Broadway actors come down to EPCOT and sing songs from different Disney musicals, all included with the price of your ticket. The concert series can bring in HUGE crowds, but we know the best way to guarantee seating for your favorite artist. Dining packages are among our favorite ways to guarantee seating for the concert series while also enjoying a delicious dinner. For the Festival of the Arts, dining packages open on December 17th, 2025, and you’ll want to be ready to grab yours — they can sell out fast! ©Disney At the restaurant, you’ll get access to one entree and dessert, or one full buffet, along with one nonalcoholic beverage, or an alcoholic beverage for guests 21 and older. 7. A new after-hours event at Aquatica Orlando water park is designed to bring some light to the season. Illuminate features larger-than-life, lantern-inspired figures — primarily shaped as animals — that line the attraction’s pathway. “Illuminate invites families to explore the park on foot, surrounded by glowing lanterns and shimmering realms full of light,” Bradley Gilmour, park president, said during a Wednesday evening preview. Although a few of the lit-up displays are placed on the water’s surface, the park’s slides, wave pool and lazy rivers are not open during Illuminate. Visitors should leave swimsuits at home. “We’ve done night events over the course of the wintertime here, like movies on the beach, and they really resonated with our [annual] pass members,” Gilmour said. Last year, the park introduced AquaGlow, an after-hours, limited-capacity party with slides available, some of which are enhanced with lighting effects. A reptile-shaped lantern stands amid smoke-filled bubbles in the Myst Wood Waters section of Illuminate, a new nighttime event at Aquatica water park. (Dewayne Bevil/Orlando Sentinel) For Illuminate, the park is divided into five distinctly themed areas, starting with one named AquaLuma, which uses five Aquatica mascots — including Roa the Kiwi and Kata the Kookaburra — to greet Illuminate-goers. Other realms include Enchanted Lagoon, featuring an at-sea mermaid and a colorful unicorn; Rivers of Discovery, with animals such as dolphins, flamingos, lions, giraffes and rays; and Myst Wood Waters, featuring dragonflies, chameleons and birds. Candy Cascade Falls veers from the wildlife theme into sweet territory and a lollipop-lined pathway. Scents and music are added to the spaces for immersive touches. Brightly colored tunnels connect the areas and stops for specialty foods for purchase. Aquatica visitors stroll past flamingos and other lighting effects during a preview of Illuminate. (Dewayne Bevil/Orlando Sentinel) “Every glowing lantern, every scent, every sound, every unique experience was crafted from scratch through our entertainment and technical teams,” said Cindi Miller, vice president for entertainment. “They spent months designing, building and programming these worlds for you guys to enjoy,” she said. Add-on experiences include s’mores by the fire, a crafting area and the Serengeti Express Train Ride, which chugs through safari scenes near the Rivers of Discovery realm. Although there’s an opportunity to meet a Tropical Kiwi-themed Santa Claus during Illuminate, it’s not an overwhelmingly holiday-driven evening, Gilmour said. “It’s not 100% a Christmas event. It’s an event centered around lanterns and lights and spending time with friends and family,” he said. Admission varies with date. Ticket prices run between $24.99 and $29.99. The water park is off International Drive, adjacent to sister park SeaWorld Orlando. Illuminate is held on select nights through Jan. 31. For more information, go to aquatica.com. 8. A supporting character in the animated “Zootopia” films takes the spotlight in “Zootopia: Better Zoogether,” a new 4D show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Benjamin Clawhauser, a cheetah with a desk job in the Zootopia Police Department, is represented by a large animatronic in the attraction as well as two-dimensional appearances on the big screen in the park’s Tree of Life theater. Clawhauser is voiced by actor Nate Torrence, who visited Walt Disney World to preview the show this week ahead of its Friday debut. In the attraction storyline, Clawhauser has time off from the ZPD and attends a concert by Gazelle, a singing gazelle, as part of the Zoogether Day celebrations. “He wants to get picked to be on stage as a Very Important Zootopian — the V.I.Z. — and then he messes everything up. It just felt very true to that character,” said Danny Handke, senior creative director with Walt Disney Imagineering. “Clawhauser just felt to us like he was the eyes of the audience,” Handke said. Nate Torrence (far right) speaks during a panel about the making of "Zootopia" and the new "Zootopia" attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park this week. (Joe Burbank/Orlando Sentinel) Torrence — whose credits include episodes of “St. Denis Medical,” “Superstore,” “Supernatural” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” — was surprised by the amount of freedom he was given by Disney in the voicing of the character, he said. Some of his facial expressions and physical traits were worked into the looks of Clawhauser. “I was amazed at how much I use my hands after watching Clawhauser,” Torrence said. For the theme-park show, “there were specific times when they came in and were like, ‘We just want to see how you say this and you’re moving around,’” he said. That gave Imagineering ideas of how the animatronic could react to the on-screen action or the watery 4D effects. He used different acting techniques for the movie version and the Animal Kingdom version of Clawhauser, he said. “I would say that I was very aware vocally, that I took a more live-stage approach” to the Tree of Life show because the animatronic figures speak to a live audience, he said. “Clawhauser is our ambassador of this attraction,” said Jared Bush, chief creative officer at Walt Disney Animation Studios. “You get to see him with his glowing necklace in this [attraction] and you’ll see that in ‘Zootopia 2,’ as well.” The “Zootopia’ sequel arrives in theaters Nov. 26. “Nate, the actor, and Clawhauser are one and the same. There’s no way to separate them,” Bush said. “Of all of the actors, Nate has been part of Zootopia the longest,” he said. “We do what’s called a table read, and we bring in a bunch of folks that are not tied to the movie to just read it through before we cast it. He was Clawhauser in that original read, and so we heard him and he became Clawhauser forever as a result.” And now, he’s animatronic. “I flew my whole family out to see this weekend. So my mom, dad, my brothers and sisters are all waiting in a van to come see this,” Torrence said. “I’m like, I’m not letting this pass by. This is a once-a-lifer.” Email me at dbevil@orlandosentinel.com. BlueSky: @themeparksdb. Threads account: @dbevil. X account: @themeparks. 10. A Disneyland classic is about to reopen, with some BRAND-NEW MAGIC. It’s so cute On November 14th, the opening day (technically, but we’ll get to that), the attraction Storybook Land Canal Boats is set to reopen from refurbishment with a brand new miniature based on Rapunzel’s Tower from Tangled in honor of Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary Celebration. The new model will include the slender tower, including a shingled turret and several high windows, a “meticulously cared for selection of flora”, multiple wanted posters seeking Flynn Rider (and according to Disney, “even in miniature, they still couldn’t get Flynn’s nose right. In fact, each poster has a different depiction of Flynn’s most difficult-to-capture feature”), as well as a secluded dock with a boat inspired by the one from the film. ©Disney The new addition will also incorporate the film’s music. During the day, guests will hear a charming arrangement of “When Will My Life Begin?” emanating from Rapunzel’s Tower. At dusk, the music will switch to “I See the Light”, which, along with the twinkling lights, should be reminiscent of the lantern scene from the film. This new Tangled addition will join the “picturesque realm of miniature homes, villages, and castles from favorite fairytales” that currently make up the attraction. Storybook Land Canal Boats closed The ride currently known as the Storybook Land Cana Boats first opened with the rest of Disneyland on July 17th, 1955 as the Canal Boats of the World. During the park’s design phase, the ride had been planned to be a journey past “miniature recreations of the great landmarks of the world” (owing to Walt Disney’s love of miniatures, which was part of the impetus for a theme park in the first place), but by opening day the budget had been cut. During its initial month of operation, the ride’s barren landscaping and penchant for boats to break down earned it the nickname”The Mud Bank Ride” among early Imagineers. Storybook Canal Boats The ride was closed down and revamped – granting it the distinction of being the first major refurbishment in Disneyland history – reopening as the Storybook Land Canal Boats in June, 1956. The ride featured 1-1 scale models of Gepetto’s village from Pinocchio, the Pigs’ houses from Three Little Pigs, the Kensington Gardens from Peter Pan, Alice’s cottage from Alice in Wonderland, the Old Mill from the 1937 Silly Symphony cartoon of the same name, Toad Hall from The Wind in the Willows from The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, the diamond mine from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’, and Cinderella’s Castle among others. Over the years, newer additions such as the palace from Aladdin have been added, Storybook Land Canal Boats Disneyland’s beloved Storybook Land Canal Boats is about to reopen on November 14th, complete with a NEW Tangled addition! 12. Performers are set for the 2026 Disney on Broadway concert series, a musical aspect of the annual Epcot International Festival of the Arts, and there are six newbies in the mix, including Susan Egan, the original Belle on Broadway’s “Beauty and the Beast,” plus there’s a double dip of actors who have personified Genie on stage in “Aladdin.” The 12 singers appear in pairs in a daily schedule that begins Jan. 16. Then four of them reunite for special appearances on the final two days of the festival. The lineup, subject to change, is: • Jan. 16, 18, 19, 22, 24, 26 and 27: Isabelle McCalla and Adam Jacobs (both from “Aladdin”). • Jan. 17, 20, 21, 23, 25, 28 and 29: Sierra Boggess (“The Little Mermaid”) and Michael James Scott (“Aladdin” Genie No. 1 of the series) • Jan. 30, Feb. 1, 2, 5, 7, 9 and 10: Anastacia McCleskey and Josh Strickland (both from “Tarzan”). • Jan. 31, Feb. 3, 4, 6, 8, 11 and 12: Mandy Gonzalez (“Aida”) and Kissy Simmons (“The Lion King”). • Feb. 13, 15, 16 and 19: Ainsley Melham (“Aladdin”) and Ashley Brown (“Mary Poppins”). • Feb. 14, 17, 18, 20 and 21: Susan Egan (“Beauty and the Beast”) and James Monroe Iglehart (“Aladdin,” the second Genie of this series). • Feb. 22 and 23: Brown, Melham, Egan and Iglehart. New to the festival are McCalla, Boggess, McCleskey, Melham, Egan and Igelhart. There are three performances daily at the park’s America Gardens Theater, and the concerts are included with regular Epcot admission. In addition, the festival again include a “Once Upon A Stage: The Magic of Disney on Broadway” display inside CommuniCore Hall. The new exhibit spotlights the making of “The Lion King,” “Aladdin” and “Beauty and the Beast” with costumes, props and photo ops. Email me at dbevil@orlandosentinel.com. BlueSky: @themeparksdb. 13. Okay, so if you’ve been to Disney World, there’s a good chance you’ve flown into and out of Orlando International Airport. Now, let’s face it…the TSA security checkpoints at that airport can be pretty crowded and unpleasant at times (although the airport has added programs to make it better). But a new addition to the airport actually has us looking forward to our next TSA security checkpoint experience…no, really! TSA lines at MCO If you visit Orlando International Airport right now, you might be surprised that the dull gray bins at the TSA security checkpoints have changed. Those bins recently got a Disney upgrade! We recently flew out of Orlando International Airport, and when we took our liquids, laptop, and everything else we needed to out of our carry-on, we noticed the bins for our stuff had been given a Zootopia 2 upgrade! Y’all, this is the first time we think we’ve seen a Disney movie promoted at TSA security. What a great way to add a little fun to the part of flying that is usually anything BUT fun. Zootopia 2 TSA security bins The bins feature the promotional image from the movie with Nick Wilde, Judy Hopps, and the newest character to come to Zootopia, Gary the Snake. Of course, this is all part of the movie’s promotion, since it comes out SOON, on November 26th. We love these bins! Of course, Zootopia is having a moment in Disney World now, too, with the opening of the new Zootopia: Better Zoogether attraction in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. You can even meet Nick and Judy in the park now, too! Judy and Nick in Animal Kingdom Stay tuned to DFB for more. 19. United Parks & Resorts experienced a drop in theme-park attendance and revenue in the third quarter of 2025, but SeaWorld Orlando numbers are up for the year so far, according to executives reacting to the company’s earnings report. Overall attractions attendance was 6.8 million for the July-September period, a decrease of 3.4% from a year earlier. Total revenue was $511.9 million, a decrease of 6.2% from 2024. “We’re obviously not happy with the results we delivered in the quarter,” United CEO Mark Swanson said in a conference call Thursday. “Performance during the quarter was negatively impacted by an unfavorable calendar shift, poor weather during peak holiday periods, a decline in international visitation and less than optimal execution.” Positives in the report, he said, was a 1.1% increase in per-capital spending inside the theme parks and that attendance at SeaWorld Orlando is up for the first nine months of 2025. The per-cap level has grown in 20 of the past 22 quarters, he said. Also, “we saw meaningful year-over-year growth from our separately ticketed Howl-O-Scream events, including record attendance in Orlando and San Diego for these events,” Swanson said. It’s difficult to pinpoint the effects of economic insecurities of consumers and immigration news on the over international figures, which was down by 90,000 visitors for the company, which is based in Orlando, he said. “I’m sure there is some impact to certain guests across our portfolio,” he said. “If you do look at our [annual] pass base, we know that’s been down, and I’m sure when some of the peak selling seasons for our passes were around when the tariff noise was happening,” Swanson said. “It’s hard to know if that had an impact on us. I’m sure it didn’t help us.” And yet, Discovery Cove, the Orlando day resort with the most expensive ticket in the company, is on pace for record attendance and revenue for the year “and looking solid for next year as well,” Swanson said. “There’s also consumers who are ‘We’re fine,’ right? … So, kind of the mixed bag there,” he said. Investments in the theme parks will continue, he said. “One of the key things you need for a strong pass program is to have reasons to visit,” Swanson said. “We have another exciting lineup of new things coming to our parks next year.” Upcoming projects include SEAQuest: Legends of the Deep, a submersible-themed attraction set to open in 2026 at SeaWorld Orlando, and Lion & Hyena Ridge, a new animal habitat at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. SeaWorld San Antonio will introduce Barracuda Strike, an inverted family roller coaster, next year. dbevil@orlandosentinel.com View the full article
  20. As the U.S. Government shutdown stretches on, the political showdown is putting increasing pressure on the country’s aviation infrastructure to the point where sections of the country’s airspace may be shut down week. ©JetBlue According to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, beginning next week, “You will see mass flight delays. You’ll see mass cancellations, and you may see us close certain parts of the airspace, because we just cannot manage it, because we don’t have the air traffic controllers.” Duffy further specified what kind of cuts are coming, with 40 “high-volume” areas having their air traffic cut by 10% in the coming days to cope with shortages of air traffic controllers, 13,000 of whom are currently working without pay. Orlando International Airport While the FAA has not formally announced which U.S. airports may have their capacity cut, CBS News provided the following preliminary list, which the outlet said was provided to them by an FAA source: Anchorage International (ANC) Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL) Boston Logan International (BOS) Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) Charlotte Douglas International (CLT) Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International (CVG) Dallas Love (DAL) Ronald Reagan Washington National (DCA) Denver International (DEN) Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW) Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County (DTW) Newark Liberty International (EWR) Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International (FLL) Honolulu International (HNL) Houston Hobby (HOU) Washington Dulles International (IAD) George Bush Houston Intercontinental (IAH) Indianapolis International (IND) New York John F Kennedy International (JFK) Las Vegas Harry Reid International (LAS) Los Angeles International (LAX) New York LaGuardia (LGA) Orlando International (MCO) Chicago Midway (MDW) Memphis International (MEM) Miami International (MIA) Minneapolis/St Paul International (MSP) Oakland International (OAK) Ontario International (ONT) Chicago O`Hare International (ORD) Portland International (PDX) Philadelphia International (PHL) Phoenix Sky Harbor International (PHX) San Diego International (SAN) Louisville International (SDF) Seattle/Tacoma International (SEA) San Francisco International (SFO) Salt Lake City International (SLC) Teterboro (TEB) Tampa International (TPA) These aviation issues have become the latest battleground in the government shutdown, which is nearing 40 days after beginning earlier this fall. The shutdown, which was spurred by debate over healthcare funding, has led to a back-and-forth between the Trump Administration, Republicans, and Democrats over who is to “blame” for the shutdown. Southwest Airlines With the U.S. Government shutdown continuing on, the country’s aviation apparatus is struggling. Stay tuned to DFB for further developments. 25. 2025 was quite a year for Universal Orlando, as the resort opened one of the largest single expansions in its history with the opening of the Epic Universe theme park, as well as three hotels surrounding the new park. However, even as the resort has ironed out many of the kinks that come with a new theme park, from transportation to wait times to crowd flow issues and more, one question has remained unresolved: What’s going on with annual passes? Universal Orlando Annual Pass In my 30+ years visiting Universal Orlando, I’ve seen the resort grow from a single theme park — and a guitar-shaped Hard Rock Cafe — into the massive three-park/multi-hotel/sprawling CityWalk destination it is now. Right along with the growth has come more and more fans, including a large and dedicated group of Annual Passholders… many of whom are currently perplexed. When Universal opened Epic Universe this past May, the park wasn’t directly available to APs, though they could get a discount on single-day tickets. At the time, many assumed that Universal was simply going to wait a few months to get operations down at the new park before opening Epic Universe to Passholders in the fall after the busy summer season. However, that didn’t happen. Instead, Universal’s message about Annual Passes has remained the same, as currently displayed on the resort’s website: Q: Is there a Universal Epic Universe-inclusive Annual Pass? A: More details regarding Annual Passes that include Universal Epic Universe will be announced at a later date. Although a Universal Epic Universe-inclusive Pass isn’t currently available for purchase, Passholders are currently able to purchase 1-Day Universal Epic Universe tickets at a special price. Gate at Epic Universe This has left Passholders in a state of flux. Many are wondering how far away that “later date” is, and whether the “Annual Passes that include Universal Epic Universe” will be any of the preexisting options or a new level of passes. So, what’s more likely, and what is Universal doing this in the first place? We have some thoughts… Let’s begin with the latter. Universal’s reasoning is likely three-fold: First, while Epic has now been open for several months, the park is still very new, and about to embark on its first Holiday season, meaning that both the on-the-ground team members and overall Universal teams are still getting used to how the park works and the best way to operate each day. They likely want to lock down these procedures before opening the park to the larger Annual Passholder guest pool. Secondly, by limiting the park to day guests, Universal is doing its best to expose the new park to the largest group of guests possible, and giving priority to potential “one-time” guests on their first visit during a time when demand for the new park is at its highest. Finally, and relatedly, Universal may also be counting on the fact that when that first-time visitor demand begins to wane, they will have a large pool of Annual Passholders waiting to visit the park more frequently. Constellation Carousel in Celestial Park Now, on to the next question: How will Universal implement a new AP? Well, it seems like they have two main options. The first is to add Epic Universe access as an add-on to existing pass tiers, while the second is to create a brand-new, higher-tier pass that covers all four parks. Of course, both of those options potentially create issues with current Passholders. An add-on likely means those existing Passholders would need to pay extra on top of what they’re already paying, while a new higher-tier pass could make Epic Universe feel like a luxury option, leaving some Passholders feeling priced out. Dragon Racer’s Rally Given the massive costs invested into Epic Universe, it seems obvious that whichever option Universal goes with, prices will be significantly higher than what Passholders are currently used to. In addition, many have questions about how other perks — including free parking, hotel discounts, and Universal Express might differ across tiers — could be different across potential new tier levels. Dark Universe in Epic Universe There are signs that Universal may be making some kind of change soon, given that Universal has already set an expiration date on its current Passholder Perks: December 31st, 2025. Meaning that, a new structure — potentially including Epic Universe and corresponding higher price points — could be in place in early 2026. Super Nintendo World So, what’s a Passholder to do? It might be wise to play the waiting game for the next few weeks. If your pass is set to renew in late 2025, it might be worth waiting to see what Universal announces for 2026 before locking yourself in. If and when that announcement does come, go deep on the perks, as some previous benefits could shift if and when Epic Universe is included. Finally, as much as it pains us to say, plan to pay more for Epic access. Whether it’s an add-on or a new tier, Universal will likely use Epic Universe access as a premium selling point. Wizarding Paris Universal’s Annual Pass program looks to be on the verge of changing forever, as Epic Universe — and likely increased prices along with it — seem poised to upend the program. However, until then, Passholders are in a state of flux. Stay tuned to DFB for more on potential Universal Annual Pass changes.
