  1. It’s no secret that Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is one of the most beautiful resorts in Disney World. It’s GORGEOUS. Of course, it’s a deluxe hotel, so you pay extra for the feeling you’re staying in an actual lodge in a national park. The resort also offers several ways to get around Disney World, including boat transportation…but that’s about to change soon. Boat dock at Wilderness Lodge If you’re hoping to stay at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge on or after January 12th, you may have to resort to just taking buses to the parks, including Magic Kingdom, because the docks at Wilderness Lodge will be closing soon for refurbishment. From January 12th, 2026 through April 2026, the boat dock at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge will be undergoing routine maintenance. The good news is that the boat to Magic Kingdom won’t be closed for TOO long: from January 12th through January 30th. So if you’re staying at the hotel during that time, you’ll have to take a bus to Magic Kingdom instead. Taking the boat from Wilderness Lodge to Magic Kingdom That’s not all that’s going on at Wilderness Lodge, though. The hotel, along with Copper Creek Villas & Cabins, is undergoing refurbishment through late 2026. This construction work could limit views at the hotel, as well as mean you’ll see and hear construction during the daytime hours. Most amenities at the hotel are still open, though, so it shouldn’t be too much of an inconvenience. Construction at Wilderness Lodge We’ll keep an eye out for more Disney news, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 2. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is BACK in Disney World, and we’re feeling festive about it! Welcome to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! We’ve been to the party and seen the spectacular entertainment offerings, shopped the exclusive merchandise, and met some of the rare characters. But one of the biggest highlights for us here at DFB is the exclusive snacks…and several of our favorites are BACK this year, baby! Golden Oak Outpost First up, we’re taking you to Golden Oak Outpost in Frontierland for the Festive Beignets. These are light and fluffy beignets dusted with blue sugar cookie dust and served with cookie butter icing. Festive Beignets We LOVED these! We didn’t think you could make beignets any better, but Disney World can! We loved the cookie butter icing and the sugar cookie dust — it was very messy, but totally worth it to us. If you love sweets, this is something you’ve got to try! Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe The Holiday Pot Roast Melt is made with slow-cooked beef on thick toast with cheddar and provolone cheese and beef gravy. Holiday Pot Roast Melt This sandwich has been around for the Christmas Party for a couple of years, and we have LOVED it. It was savory, fatty, and tasted like it just came out of the Crock-Pot. So honestly, Cosmic Ray’s is a great stop for a pick-me-up meal during the party. Spring Roll Cart You know we LOVE our Cheeseburger Spring Rolls, and another favorite spring roll flavor has come back to Magic Kingdom for the Christmas party — Pastrami Reuben Spring Rolls! Pastrami Reuben Spring Rolls These come with Thousand Island dressing as a dipping sauce. They are super cheesy, and have big chunks of pastrami inside. If you’re a fan of the Spring Roll Cart, you’ll definitely want to stop by for this rare flavor during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! Of course there are plenty more treats we loved at this year’s party. You can read about them all right here! Stay tuned to DFB for more holiday news from Disney World! 3. Hugh Johnston, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, said that The Walt Disney Company is investing in dynamic ticket pricing, and this approach could be making its way to the domestic parks in the coming years. Scanning in! In 2022, Disney World introduced “surge pricing,” where ticket prices can vary by park and day. More popular dates had higher prices, and more in-demand parks saw an increase. Because of this, Magic Kingdom is the most expensive park on Christmas Day, for example. Dynamic pricing could be coming soon, so let’s see how this would change. With surge pricing, once the ticket price is announced, it’s fixed and doesn’t change if you check back another day. Whether you buy a ticket one day or in two months, the price will remain the same. Dynamic pricing could mean ticket prices change every time you look at them, so you’d have to be more aware of when you book. Disney World Theme Park Tickets Disneyland Paris recently introduced a dynamic pricing system in which prices change based on when you book, similar to how airline tickets work. You could see a lower price one day, a higher price the next, and they could just back down the day after — this could seriously throw a wrench in your ticket budget. Disneyland Paris While this system hasn’t arrived at Disney World or Disneyland yet, Disney has been dropping hints that it might be coming sooner rather than later. Hugh Johnston answered questions during a Wells Fargo Technology, Media, and Telecom Summit and said that, after testing the system at Disneyland Paris for about a year, this approach could come to our domestic parks as Disney works to optimize it. Magic Kingdom Disneyland Paris currently has its pricing system broken into six tiers: Tier 1: $57 to $63 Tier 2: $64 to $72 Tier 3: $73 to $82 Tier 4: $83 to $95 Tier 5: $96 to $101 Tier 6: $102 to $152 If you look at the calendar, Tier 6, the most expensive, had three times as many dates as Tier 1, the lowest-priced tier. Disney World, looking to implement this system, could eliminate the need for ticket price increase announcements, which usually draw bad press. Annual Pass This could also open the opportunity for dynamic pricing for Lightning Lanes, Disney’s paid skip-the-line service. Currently, prices are based on the park’s popularity and the date, similar to how ticket prices work now. Once the price is listed, it doesn’t change, but if dynamic pricing comes to tickets, it might also come to Lightning Lanes, where you’d have to strategically plan when you purchase them. Lightning Lane We don’t have a timeline or official confirmation on whether dynamic pricing is coming to Disney World and Disneyland, but we wouldn’t be surprised to hear more announced in the future. Make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog to stay up to date with more information. 4. A December Disney World trip sounds dreamy, but it’s surprisingly easy to walk into major headaches if you aren’t prepared. Walt Disney World entrance Disney World in December is packed with holiday crowds, shifting park hours, seasonal offerings, and a long list of construction projects that affect how you move through the parks. Add in several key ride closures and you’ve got a recipe for frustration if you don’t plan ahead. We’re laying out the biggest mistake people make during this festive month and helping you avoid it with a clear game plan. Construction All Over the Resort Construction continues to be one of the biggest challenges for guests this year, and you’ll feel it in multiple parks. Magic Kingdom is still surrounded by construction walls as the Piston Peak expansion continues to grow beyond Frontierland. This work affects more than the expansion zone itself. You’ll deal with rerouted walkways, narrow pathing near the Rivers of America, and heavier congestion throughout Liberty Square and the surrounding areas. Construction Walls Animal Kingdom is also undergoing a major transformation. The transition from DinoLand U.S.A. to Tropical Americas is in full swing, and that means sizable portions of the park feel closed off or shifted around. Trilo-Bites and Dino-Bite Snacks have already closed permanently, and by early 2026, Restaurantosaurus and DINOSAUR will close as well. December guests should expect reduced flexibility in that corner of the park, which changes how you might normally navigate from land to land. Constructoin walls in Animal Kingdom Hollywood Studios is no exception. The Muppets Courtyard area remains closed as work continues on the future Monsters Inc. Land. As a result, the walkways between Grand Avenue and the rest of the park feel tight and limited. There’s also work happening in Animation Courtyard. All of this work also affects how you access food locations that sit right on the edges of these construction zones. Animation Courtyard construction Construction walls don’t seem like a big deal until you’re in the middle of a holiday crowd trying to figure out how to get from one area to another. Keep your map handy and expect your usual walking routes to shift. Ride Closures You Must Plan Around Ignoring the refurbishment schedule is another December pitfall. Several attractions are closed this month, and pretending they won’t impact your day is a mistake many guests make. Kali River Rapids in Animal Kingdom remains closed through December 2025. The ride began its refurbishment in October, and although Disney expects it to reopen sometime in December, the exact date is still unconfirmed. If this is a must-do for your crew, prepare for the possibility that it will not be operating during your trip. Kali River Rapids Big Thunder Mountain Railroad continues its long-term closure after shuttering in January 2025. It is scheduled to reopen in 2026 with a refreshed experience. This project connects to even bigger work happening nearby, as Disney prepares for the upcoming Villains Land and begins the large-scale transformation around the Rivers of America. The entire back side of Frontierland looks very different right now, and guests should expect that to continue. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is also closed for enhancements until 2026. When it returns, it will include new vehicles, handheld blasters, upgraded targets, real-time scoring, and a new character named Buddy who trains you before each mission. The updates sound exciting, but for December, the ride remains closed altogether. It’s closed! If your family has traditions tied to any of these attractions, prepare backup plans in advance. Magic Kingdom’s Early Closures for Party Nights December is also packed with Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party nights, and Magic Kingdom closes early on each of those dates. Guests without party tickets must leave in the late afternoon. If you aren’t aware of this before you arrive, you might be disappointed when you discover that a full Magic Kingdom day simply isn’t available. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Check the party schedule, plan your Magic Kingdom visit for a non-party day, or consider buying party tickets if you want nighttime access. Plan Ahead for a Smooth December Trip December can be one of the most magical times to visit Disney World, but it can also be one of the most chaotic if you assume everything works the same way it does the rest of the year. Construction zones, closed attractions, altered pathways, and party nights can change your plans if you don’t prepare before arriving. Walls near the Haunted Mansion in Magic Kingdom In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. 5. Did we just find a dupe for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party? Well, maybe not exactly, but we did find a few of the incredible snacks you can grab at Very Merry with that wildly expensive party ticket for much, much cheaper in Animal Kingdom. Hey, we love grabbing free cookies as much as you do, but if we actually think about the $190 we spent to get them, they start to taste a little different. Frozen Hot Cocoa We headed to Restaurantosaurus to check out some holiday treats, and we’re bringing you all the details. Ready to feel a little merry? First up, we tried the Frozen Hot Cocoa for $6.49. SO many toppings Y’all, this was just fantastic. There were tons of whipped cream and even a little bit of mint at the bottom, which we recommend stirring completely into the drink so it isn’t quite as strong. It was creamy and a bit thicker than a regular shake, but the toasted marshmallows really took it to the next level. There was a piece of chocolate bark on top and a little dinosaur bone, too. It was well priced, a true hidden gem, and something we’ll get time and time again. Snack haul We tried another Frozen Hot Cocoa during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Peco Bill’s, which was just as delicious. The problem is that the drink is only available during the party, while this one is available all day long, all season long. Frozen Hot Cocoa Then we had the Sugar Cookie for $4.79. Sugar Cookie This is a pretty standard sugar cookie, perfect for the traditionalists in the group. It breaks apart really easily, so bring a napkin or eat it at the table, but the flavors were exactly what you’d expect from your favorite holiday cookie. It was chewy and easy to pull apart, and it’s pretty dang cute, too, with the DinoLand references. Chewy and delicious It reminds us of the cookies you can get at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Sugar Cookie from 2023 Finally, we ended with the Gingerbread Cookie for $4.99. Gingerbread cookie Another cute snack! We thought the gingerbread man on top looked homemade, which reminded us of the holidays back home, and the gingerbread flavor was super fresh. It was easy to eat and pull apart, and definitely one we’d get again. We didn’t want to tear him apart! We also had frosted gingerbread cookies at Mickey’s Very Merry, so we’re glad to get the same flavors at a different location. Buttercream-Frosted Gingerbread Cookie Remember, Restaurantosaurus closes on February 1st, 2026, to make way for the new Pueblo Esperanza land, so this is your last Christmas in DinoLand U.S.A. 6. The holidays have arrived in Disneyland Resort…do you know what that means? It’s time to EAT! YUM! Just like any other seasonal celebration, the holliest jolliest time of year comes with tons of new sweets and savory items in the parks, and as the Disney Food Blog, it’s our duty to try a BUNCH of them and report back to you. So are these new snacks worth your time and money? Let’s find out! Schmoozies Starting our food tour out at Disney California Adventure, we first headed to Schmoozies to grab the Red Velvet Mickey Shaped Waffles for $10.99. These are filled with cream cheese and topped with whipped cream. The menu We got a light chocolate taste from the red velvet, but nothing overly rich or strong. Sadly, they weren’t the freshest, served room temperature, and a little bit difficult to tear apart after they cooled. They were, however, nice and crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Waffle! The cream cheese added a light vanilla flavor that paired perfectly with the red velvet and the sweetness overall. All in all, they were a fun and very pretty treat. Inside the waffle Maybe not a #1 must-get item, but a good snack for Mickey waffle fans! Cozy Cone Motel 3 Our next stop was the Cozy Cone Motel 3, where we ordered Jerry’s Junk Truck Cone for $13.49. This is filled with chopped fried chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, corn, chicken gravy, and cheese, and topped with green onions. Jerry’s Junk Truck Cone We got strong comfort food vibes from this one. There’s a nice mix of peppery, garlic, and cheesy flavors. The potatoes had a nice hint of garlic, as well as a texture that wasn’t too dense or fluffy. The corn added some sweetness while the chicken gave us some peppery notes. Inside the cone Our only complaint here is that we only got like 3 or 4 of the fried chicken pieces in the cone — we wanted more. The warm comfort flavors were perfect for this gloomy day, though, and we’d definitely get this one again. Jolly Holiday Heading over to Disneyland, we stopped at Jolly Holiday to snag the White Mocha Peppermint Tree Macaron for $8.29. This is filled with peppermint buttercream and a coffee bundt cake center. White Mocha Peppermint Tree Macaron This was not our favorite of the batch. It was hard to eat, broke easily, and the peppermint in the buttercream was overly strong. We definitely got a strong toothpaste flavor from the filling, and not much sweetness at all. It’s very pretty! However, we did enjoy the top piece we pulled off that didn’t have the buttercream on it. It was a light and sweet chocolate flavor with a light minty aftertaste. The coffee cake filling had hints of caramel and hazelnut. Not our favorite This might not be one of our favorites, but if you can stand the strong mint flavor, you may enjoy it. Harbour Galley At Harbour Galley, you can get the Gingerbread Cookies 6-pack for $7.79 along with the Holiday Royal Icing Dipping Sauce for $1.39. A classic combo! Cookie time! These were absolutely DELIGHTFUL gingerbread cookies. There was a decent level of spices without being too heavy, and the outside of the cookies was crisp while keeping a soft center. There was a light ginger and cinnamon flavor throughout that we loved. A classic gingerbread cookie The icing dipping sauce wasn’t anything too special — just a sweet vanilla flavor with a kind of runny texture. Basic icing If you’re a gingerbread fan, you have GOT to come try these! Red Rose Taverne Last but not least, we headed to Red Rose Taverne to grab the Holiday Butter Cake Sundae for $8.29. This is a warm chocolate butter cake, peppermint ice cream, chocolate sauce, and crushed peppermint. Holiday Butter Cake Sundae This was the perfect holiday dessert! The butter cake is served warm and has a rich, decadent chocolate flavor. This dessert is still pretty minty, but it didn’t bother us like the macaron from earlier. So festive! The chocolate sauce that covered the ice cream helped cut some of the mint, while the butter cake had the same effect. The ice cream had a mild peppermint with hints of a sweet, creamy vanilla flavor in some bites. This was truly delicious! We’re all-in for ice cream. We can’t wait to explore more of the holiday offerings in Disneyland Resort throughout the season! We’ll keep you in the loop. Stay tuned to DFB for more Disneyland news and updates. 7. The countdown is on for Galacticoaster, the roller coaster set to debut at Legoland Florida in early 2026. The Winter Haven theme park disclosed more details about the indoor family thrill ride during the IAAPA Expo at Orange County Convention Center. A key element will be the ride’s personalization capabilities, said Rob Smith, chief operating officer of Merlin Entertainments Group, which owns Legoland. Riders will be able to select key elements – such as the nose, tail, wings and color – of their spacecraft, Smith said. This will be achieved with RFID technology in a wristband. “You get on board your spacecraft, and as you get ready for takeoff, your spacecraft — with you sitting in it – is projected onto technology screens before you launch into space,” Smith said. There are more than 620 combinations of the vehicles, he said. Some of the options are the expected intergalactic look; some are more fanciful such as hamburger wings, crab claws up front or a dragon tail, Smith said. “It’s not just about Lego play. It’s about Lego imagination,” Smith said. “Merlin is always finding new ways to make every visit unique,” he said. Legoland also introduced Space Creature, a character that will appear in the attraction, during its IAAPA news conference. The storyline of the ride involves passengers helping to avoid the “asteroid of probable destruction.” The coaster will have speeds up to 40 mph, with ride vehicles that seat four passengers in one row. The entire experience, including the pre-show and customization, will last between 10 and 15 minutes, Smith said. Height requirement is 48 inches (or 40 inches when accompanied by an adult). Although space themes resonate with Central Floridians, Merlin was looking for themes with broad appeal before landing on Galacticoaster. Its research team sought a subject that appeals to all ages, Smith said. The same ride is being built at Legoland California, part of the company’s $90 million push. “It was about having something that everyone’s interested in and everyone can take part in,” Smith said. “So space was one of those key themes that was multigenerational for all ages, which is really the important part of a day or visit to Legoland resorts. … It’s about everyone doing it together.” Attendees smile and stumble in the "The Vortex Tunnel" booth at the IAAPA Expo at the Orange County Convention Center on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. 10. I don’t care that Zootopia 2 isn’t even in theaters yet. I’ve waited TEN YEARS for the sequel, and I’m already counting down the days until I can watch it at my own leisure on Disney+. ©Disney I’m thinking y’all probably feel the same way, so let’s figure out when Zootopia 2 is coming to Disney+ because I’ll have to ask for time off on that day and buy a bunch of donuts to celebrate. To figure this out, we have to look at other movies that came to theaters this year and have already made their way to Disney+. Elio premiered in theaters on June 20th, 2025, and later premiered on Disney+ on September 17th. That’s about 89 days after it premiered in theaters. ©Disney The live-action Lilo & Stitch debuted in theaters on May 23rd, 2025, and appeared on Disney+ on September 3rd, 2025, about 103 days later. Both Elio and Lilo & Stitch premiered on Wednesdays. ©Disney Did the live-action Snow White also follow this system? Snow White premiered in theaters on March 21st, 202,5, and was later released on Disney+ on June 11th, 2025. It was about 82 days later, also on a Wednesday. ©Disney With this information, we can get a pretty good idea of when Zootopia 2 will be available on Disney+. It comes to theaters on November 26th, 2025, and about 91 days later, it could come to Disney+ on February 23rd, 2026, which is a Wednesday. While it might not be this exact date, it’s likely to come in mid- to late February or early March. ©Disney Make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more Disney news! 12. When the holidays sleigh into Walt Disney World, every corner sparkles with décor you won’t find anywhere else, turning the entire resort into a merry masterpiece of festive enchantment. All four theme parks, more than 25 Disney Resorts Collection hotels, and Disney Springs are decked in unique touches that make spirits bright and create holiday magic only Disney can deliver. At the heart of this holiday celebration, 20 dazzling “icon Christmas trees” stand tall and proud, each one a shimmering symbol of tradition, joy, and pure Disney storytelling. These magnificent trees invite you to unwrap seasonal magic and create memories that sparkle as brightly as their glimmering lights. While hundreds of beautifully decorated trees grace Walt Disney World each year, these 20 special Christmas trees soar to impressive heights, towering over 15 feet with some reaching an awe-inspiring 70 feet, making them the ultimate centerpiece of festive wonder. You may visit a city or destination to see a single tree like these, but where else in the world can you combine Disney magic with 20 larger-than-life holiday trees? Because at Disney World, the holidays aren’t just very merry — they’re truly tree-mendous! A Tradition That Tops It All These holiday trees serve as the perfect backdrop for festive photos, sparks of holiday cheer, and reminders of the traditions that make this season so special. Imagine strolling into Magic Kingdom and being wowed by the grandeur of the tree on Main Street U.S.A., adorned with classic ornaments and nostalgic touches reminiscent of early 1900s decor. At EPCOT, as you enter World Showcase, ornaments include flags from around the world, all topped off with a towering angel reflecting world peace and unity. Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the vintage-inspired icon tree dazzles with the golden age of Tinseltown, and nearby, Dinosaur Gertie joins the celebration adorned with her signature Santa hat and hanging ornament. Meanwhile, the icon tree at the main entrance of Disney’s Animal Kingdom bursts with nature-inspired elements and handcrafted details that reflect the park’s wild spirit. And for guests staying in Disney Resort Collection hotels, themed icon trees showcase their unique take on holiday wonder. Each tree sparkles with ornaments and whimsical details inspired by the themes and stories of its location, creating picture-perfect moments for guests to enjoy during their stay. The tree at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, with its spectacular star topper, is the tallest at 70 feet tall, which makes it even taller than the Monorail beam! Disney Springs also sparkles with its own unique trees to explore as guests shop, dine, and play. Craftsmanship Behind the Magic These aren’t just enormous Christmas trees. They’re tales told through tinsel and lights, each branch bursting with character and charm. Decorative ornaments, oversized garland, and tall toppers all help tell a story, one that reflects the unique theme and spirit of its home, making each visit a picture-perfect moment of Disney holiday magic. Every year, the talented decorators of Disney Holiday Services lovingly refresh each tree down to the individual branches, test every twinkling light, and polish every ornament to perfection. This process begins months in advance, ensuring that every detail shines as brightly as the season itself. Once the trees are ready, the real magic begins. They’re meticulously transported in sections to their destinations, then welders and decorators assemble them with precision, working through the night, so guests wake up to a breathtaking surprise. After they’re installed, each tree becomes a gathering place for families and friends celebrating the magic of the season. Discovering the Holiday Icon Trees No matter which Disney World theme park you visit or resort hotel you call home during the holidays, discovering every dazzling tree and uncovering must-see details is a tradition in itself. Spot 13 lanterns representing the original colonies on the Christmas tree outside the American Adventure at EPCOT, and explore the many African cultures represented on the tree at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. See the whimsical floating ornaments surrounding the tree at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Holiday Magic Around Every Corner From the moment you arrive, the holidays greet you with garlands, ornaments, and twinkling lights that transform every theme park into a seasonal wonderland. Our resort hotels glow with themed displays and cozy holiday accents, creating warm and inviting spaces for their guests to relax and celebrate. Disney Springs sparkles with holiday magic, where festive décor and twinkling lights add extra jolly touches to your experience. Celebrate the season with the Disney Springs Christmas Tree Stroll presented by AdventHealth, nightly snowfall and a flurry of treats and live entertainment. Whether you’re snapping the perfect holiday photo, admiring themed décor, or simply soaking in the joyful atmosphere, this is just a sprinkle of the seasonal magic waiting for you at Walt Disney World. 16. At Walt Disney World Resort, the Be Well…Cast Member, Friends & Family Holiday 5K is an annual tradition that brings thousands of cast members together at Disney’s Animal Kingdom with their friends and families for a joyful celebration of unforgettable memories that reinforce a culture of support and well-being. For Mitchelle Lugo, a Disney retail allocator and 21-year cast member, the cast member 5K is more than just a race, it’s a heartwarming experience that strengthens her family’s connection with every step. This year, Mitchelle crossed the start line with her husband, Melvyn Lugo, celebrating 24 magical years with Disney as a business affairs manager and their 17-year-old daughter, a high school senior. Over the years, Mitchelle has run the cast member 5K with extended family, including her twin sister and nephew, making the event a meaningful way to reconnect with family and prioritize health together. “We’re so grateful to be able to do this as a family,” Mitchelle said. “Between work and school, quality time can be hard to come by. Cast events like this holiday 5K bring us together to support each other in new and exciting challenges. It helps us stay on track with our health and gives us a chance to spend time together!”   This year, the Lugo running circle grew even larger. Mitchelle’s leader, John Cogliandro, manager of location planning, joined the race for the first time with his wife and their 12-year-old son. Also lacing up her sneakers was Tyler Saunders, a Disney Programs professional intern who recently began her Disney career with the location planning team. Together, they represent the heart of Disney’s multigenerational workforce, where camaraderie and connection thrive across generations. Whether walking, rolling, jogging, or running, the cast member 5K welcomes all fitness levels and reminds us that well-being can be magical, meaningful, and shared. And whether you’re crossing the finish line or cheering from the sidelines, every step is a celebration of the Disney spirit. “Being part of a company that truly values the overall well-being of its team means a lot to me,” John said. “Knowing there are so many resources and programs available for both myself and my family gives me peace of mind and confidence that we’re supported every step of the way.” At Walt Disney World, Disney’s Be Well platform supports cast members and their families through a comprehensive suite of well-being resources, from a host of sports leagues, walking groups and events like the Cast Member Holiday 5K, to digital tools like Disney CareConnect, a cast-exclusive well-being app. Other resources include Evernorth Well-being Navigators, on-site and virtual care at the Center for Living Well, Headspace, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and Care.com services for family and home support, reflecting Disney’s commitment to holistic well-being in every season and in every aspect of life, creating a culture where cast members feel valued and supported. This modern, human-centered approach to the cast experience not only prioritizes mental, physical, and emotional health — it also drives engagement and loyalty, contributing to Walt Disney World’s industry-leading retention rates, which exceed 80%. “At Disney, our goal is to provide resources and experiences that empower every cast member and their families to feel supported on their well-being journey,” said Penny Slocum, Senior Manager of Well-being Strategic Initiatives. This commitment to care complements Disney Experiences’ mission as one of the world’s leading providers of family travel and leisure experiences, with six resort destinations across the globe, including 12 theme parks, 57 resort hotels and Disney Vacation Club properties, a top-rated cruise line and other unique vacation experiences. Through the work of our cast members, Disney magic comes to life for families and fans worldwide every day. 17. Yes, attractions close in Disney World, but they also OPEN, and we have news on an attraction that closed for a recent refurbishment. Mickey’s PhilharMagic We’ve been finding a lot of our favorite attractions going under for refurbishment in Magic Kingdom, including Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which we have not-so-patiently been waiting to open. This attraction might not be as thrilling as rolling through an Old West town, but when you need a break from your chaotic day, you should head straight here. Mickey’s PhilharMagic seems to have reopened in Fantasyland a bit earlier than expected. The show is supposed to reopen on November 23rd, but according to the Walt Disney World website, PhilharMagic has been showing operating hours starting on November 18th. The show wasn’t expected to undergo any major changes, just a routine refurbishment, so we’re thrilled to see it open earlier than expected. Donald! There are a few other rides in the Magic Kingdom that are currently undergoing changes, and we can’t wait to have them back. Big Thunder Mountain has been closed since January 6th, 2025, and Disney has promised new rainbow taverns and a bit of added magic when it reopens. We also saw them replace the track, so we’re thinking it could be a bit smoother when we ride. ©Disney Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin is also getting major changes with a new scene, character, targets, blasters, and vehicles. It’s going to feel like a brand-new ride when you can pick up the blaster and easily move it around to score more points than your partner. ©Disney The Carousel of Progress hasn’t closed its doors yet, but it will be getting a brand new scene featuring Disney World’s first Walt Disney animatronic. After seeing the one in Disneyland, we’re pretty thrilled to have our own here on the East Coast. ©Disney Let’s not forget about the castle! The castle is being repainted in its original gray and blue colors, with added gold accents. Say goodbye to the 50th anniversary colors and welcome home the original. ©Disney With all of these changes coming in Magic Kingdom, we’re going to be sharing all the details along the way. 20. On Tuesday, Haunted Mansion Parlor — the first-of-its-kind, adults-only haunted hangout for lively “spirits” aboard the Disney Treasure cruise ship — was recognized with the Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement – Themed Food & Beverage Experience by the Themed Entertainment Association. When the Disney Treasure embarked on its maiden voyage, the Haunted Mansion Parlor carried on a new chapter in the story of one of Disney’s most beloved attractions: the Haunted Mansion. The Haunted Mansion Parlor, which is the first-ever bar experience themed to the iconic attraction, is more than a destination — it’s a showcase of Walt Disney Imagineering’s enduring commitment to innovation and storytelling. In fact, Haunted Mansion Parlor, and the original attraction that came before it, was featured in a recent episode of We Call it Imagineering. Keeping the Mansion’s Eerie Magic Alive From the moment seafaring guests step inside the Haunted Mansion Parlor, they’re immersed in illusions that honor the original Haunted Mansion while pushing creative boundaries. Actual figures appear in mirrors through a cutting-edge filming and reflection technique, giving the uncanny impression that these spectral, dancing characters are right there in the room. Pepper’s Ghost at Haunted Mansion Parlor aboard the Disney Treasure cruise ship It’s a modern evolution of the classic Pepper’s Ghost effect that has captivated guests since 1969. Rather than relying on Computer Generated Imagery, Imagineers embraced practical effects, echoing the artistry of pioneers like Yale Gracey and Rolly Crump, whose work fused science and magic to create believable otherworldly experiences. This commitment to practical effects helps ensure the Parlor feels like a natural extension of the Mansion’s eerie charm, and continues Imagineering’s tradition of blending art and science. In fact, many small details pay tribute to Imagineering legends that left a mark on the Haunted Mansion. A memorial bust honors Imagineer Rolly Crump, complete with candle-like drips inspired by his whimsical “Museum of the Weird” concept, which was an early idea for a companion to the Haunted Mansion. Throughout the space, guests will discover Easter eggs and nods to classic illusions, showing off the Parlor’s role as both a celebration of history and a beacon of innovation. A memorial bust honoring Imagineer Rolly Crump aboard the Disney Treasure cruise ship The storytelling in Haunted Mansion Parlor is as inventive as the illusions. The Parlor introduces a new chapter in Haunted Mansion lore: a jovial sea captain who met a mysterious end during a dinner with his fiancée. This narrative builds on long-standing hints of a seafaring master of the house and invites guests to join “a swinging wake unlike any other.” It’s a perfect blend of the Mansion’s signature humor and haunting atmosphere — now set against the backdrop of the high seas. And Haunted Mansion Parlor isn’t only available to visit on the Disney Treasure, as guests will be able to enjoy the venue on the Disney Destiny as well. On that ship, it will feature some unique twists on the menu, and, for those looking for romance at sea, Disney Fairy Tale Weddings also announced that the location will be available for weddings. Carrying on the Legacy The original attraction introduced breakthroughs that continue to influence Disney experiences worldwide, such as: More than five decades ago, Madame Leota made her spectral debut in the Haunted Mansion’s iconic séance room, marking the first use of projection mapping at Disney Parks. Imagineers pioneered the technique by projecting video onto the curved surface of Leota’s crystal ball, creating a mesmerizing, ghostly presence. This innovation laid the foundation for today’s spectacular nighttime shows, where projection mapping transforms various Disney castles around the world into dazzling canvases of light and storytelling. The Haunted Mansion’s development traces back to Disneyland’s earliest days, with Imagineers constantly experimenting to create unforgettable illusions. The marble busts in the Mansion’s library — famous for their uncanny ability to “follow” guests — originated from a serendipitous discovery. While working on an Abraham Lincoln mask for Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Imagineers Yale Gracy and Rolly Crump found that clever lighting and projection tricks could make the eyes appear to track viewers, a technique now immortalized in the Mansion’s eerie halls. The Haunted Mansion’s Stretching Room transports guests into the story through innovative sound design. Building on the original narration by Paul Frees, Imagineers layered ghostly whispers and atmospheric effects, utilizing 116 audio tracks to create an immersive experience where the Ghost Host’s voice seems to travel with guests. These innovations have made the Haunted Mansion a global phenomenon, inspiring unique interpretations such as Mystic Manor at Hong Kong Disneyland, Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris, and now, the award-winning Haunted Mansion Parlor aboard the Disney Treasure. Congratulations to the entire Haunted Mansion Parlor team at Walt Disney Imagineering and the Disney Cruise Line on this exciting recognition. There’s a special pirate menu with dinner, a spirited Pirates IN the Caribbean deck party, and the raucous Pirate’s Rockin’ Parlay Party, which closes out the night complete with fireworks at sea. If you’re not the kind to go full pirate dress, fear not, me hearties, for you’ll find a special treat in your room to don for the festivities, savvy? And, a little secret for the adults: This is the perfect evening to visit the onboard pirate pub, Cask & Cannon. While the pub is always available, pirate night is a great time for a rum rendezvous – and you may even spot a certain captain saunter in while looking for a pirate crew. 4. Are You Ready to Be Pulled on Stage? The Disney Destiny’s character interactions also include time to mingle with your favorite villains by helping them out with some of their sinister plans… where’s the harm in playing along? Loki will need some assistance in “Celebration of a King,” when he’ll choose an enchanted audience member to create his royal portrait. Some advice for the artist: be sure to catch his good side. Watch where you sit during “Under Her Spell: A Maleficent Encounter” in Saga. The famous enchantress will call out to a brave audience member to experience her magical powers firsthand. Would you rather be your own entertainer? Disney Cruise Line offers endless opportunities, including family karaoke, game shows, and more. 5. Make Time for Yourself There is something for everyone on the Disney Destiny, with incredible spaces for the whole family to enjoy together. There are also venues dedicated specifically to kids and adults. Teens and tweens can make friends at Edge and Vibe, exclusive hangouts just for you, with activities around the ship with fun counselors and new friends. For kids ages 3-10, Disney’s Oceaneer Club is a hub to learn and play with engaging counselors and visits from Disney characters. Adults, there are beautiful bars and lounges tailored just for you, offering specialty libations and live entertainment every evening. From The Sanctum to De Vil’s, plus Senses Spa and adult-exclusive dining, you’ll surely find some time to relax. Some venues, like Cask & Cannon and Saga, host family activities during the day before transitioning to 18+ in the evenings. 6. Plan Your Evening Around the Walt Disney Theatre Evenings on the Disney Destiny come with dinner and a show, and you won’t want to miss the Broadway-style entertainment in the Walt Disney Theatre. Depending on your dinner seating, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the first or second showing of the evening. The Walt Disney Theatre onboard the Disney Destiny houses three special stage shows. Exclusive to the Disney Destiny, “Disney Hercules” is a brand-new retelling of the Walt Disney Animation Studios film, offering a fresh, contemporary take on the iconic soundtrack that will bring you to your feet. “Disney Seas the Adventure” kicks off your voyage on a triumphant note, when Goofy learns to steer the ship while Captain Minnie Mouse prepares a special surprise during a musical journey through some of your favorite Disney songs and stories. The Walt Disney Theatre also presents “Frozen: A Musical Spectacular,” an exclusive retelling of the beloved Disney Animation film and a Disney Cruise Line fan favorite. 7. On Embarkation Day, Carry on Your Swimsuit If you’re excited to dive into the Disney Destiny’s seven pools, be sure to wear your swimsuit or pack it in your embarkation day carry-on bags. That way, you can dive right in before your luggage magically arrives to your stateroom. The biggest thrill on the upper decks is the 760-foot long AquaMouse, Disney Cruise Line’s attraction at sea. The AquaMouse on the Disney Destiny introduces a quirky new Mickey Mouse storyline with favorite Disney animated villains called “Sing a Silly Song.” The littlest cruisers have their very own water play area themed to Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story, complete with its own wading pool, family waterslide, and smoothie bar. Adults can also unwind at Quiet Cove, a peaceful area complete with an infinity pool, poolside bar, and the luxurious Cove Café. 8. Don’t Worry About Storage in Your Stateroom A hero’s welcome is waiting for you in your Disney Destiny stateroom. Every stateroom on the Disney Destiny is specially designed to be spacious, functional, and comfortable. You won’t have to worry about storage thanks to roomy closets and elevated bed frames optimized for storing your luggage. Most staterooms also feature Disney Cruise Line’s signature split-bath concept, so multiple family members can get ready for their day or dinner seating at the same time. 9. Download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App To keep up with activities onboard, download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App. The app will list all of the daily activities, dining options including your dinner seating, venue hours, entertainment, and more. You can begin using the app from home before you set sail to check in online, book premium activities, or make special requests so you’re fully prepared for your voyage. Then, onboard, you’ll find it a handy and fun way to communicate with your family with the in-app chat feature. Keep an eye out for the special Disney emojis! 10. Prepare to Discover Your Destiny Amid all of your preparation for your Disney Destiny sailing, it’s also important to start thinking about what you will discover during your cruise. Through powerful, classic Disney stories, this special ship empowers every guest to embrace their own destiny. As you get ready to set sail, I hope you start to think about it: what’s yours? 22. Y’all, we’ve got a little price situation in Disney World we need to chat about! Neapolitan Cake Whether you’re grabbing a Mickey-shaped ice cream bar, indulging in an over-the-top cupcake in the parks, or lining up for specialty treats at resorts, sweets are everywhere at Disney World. There is one place that really stands out to us, and while the desserts are delicious, the prices have drawn extreme amounts of fascination and criticism from DFB readers. We’re talking about the $22 slices of cake at The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers! Yes, that’s $22 for ONE slice of cake. Now, these cake slices are huge. They are decadent. They are beautiful…but they’re also the price of some of our favorite entrees in Disney World. “22 bucks for cake slice not my jam,” said DFB Instagram follower @pimneypointfarm, and they weren’t alone. Caramel Popcorn Chocolate Cake Slice “$22 holy moly. Not sure it’s worth that,” wrote @teresaparrish23. And @buckeyekap said, “It can be yours for one month of rent!” Shortly before the Cake Bake Shop opened, the menu prices started stirring up plenty of controversy among Disney fans, with a classic burger with pommes frites priced at $32, and child’s grilled cheese priced at $18. The day before the restaurant’s official opening in October 2024, many menu prices were lowered, with the burger now priced at $28 and the child’s grilled cheese at $14. The Cake Bake Shop in Disney World So why would people pay so much for a slice of cake here? For many, it’s about a combination of taste, presentation, and the “Disney premium”. To many guests, a cake slice here is more than dessert: it’s part of the experience, a photo moment, something you remember. They are easily big enough to share with a friend or two (or let’s be honest, 4 people with self control)! The DFB team comes running when we hear there is a new flavor of cake to review — our faves have included the Millionaire Cake and the limited-time Southern Style Caramel Cake. Southern Style Caramel Cake And while many DFB followers say $22 is too much to pay for a dessert, plenty of you are fans, too. @cdpaniccia said, “The slices are large and fed 4 of us. The cakes were exceptionally good.” “It is a small business from Indiana that is paying Disney for that spot so I understand the price point,” wrote @chappletini on Instagram. Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Roll Cake Now, there’s no question that this cake is great. We have reviewed nearly every flavor here, and we found the Millionaire Cake simply heavenly. We loved the balance of tart and sweet flavors in the Raspberry Champagne Cake. And the Coconut Cake was light and decadent. Read Our Cake Slice Reviews Right Here There’s also no question that these cake slices are shareable. There is a generous portion here for two people, and it could be shared among three to four people who just want a bit of dessert. So, if you’re into girl math, split this three ways and it’s basically three $7 desserts, or $11 desserts for two. This brings it into the price range of the also decadent $11 cake slices sold at Gideon’s Bakehouse in Disney Springs…except that those are also huge and easily split. Lemon Blueberry Cake And there are other shareable desserts in Disney World that come with an even higher price. We’re looking at you Kitchen Sink Sundae at Beaches and Cream. Kitchen Sink This over-the-top dessert is $39, and the menu says it serves 4. It includes scoops of Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Cookies ‘n Cream, and Mint Chocolate Chip topped with Hot Fudge, Peanut Butter, Snickers pieces, Brownie, and additional toppings. So who will love The Cake Bake Shop? Dessert lovers, foodies, Instagram / photo-obsessed guests, couples seeking a romantic treat stop, or guests staying near BoardWalk who want to break up park days with indulgent sweets. If you enjoy dessert as part of your vacation, this is right in your wheelhouse. Coconut Cake But what to do if you want to skip it, or if that price point is just too high? There are always those $11 cake slices at Gideon’s Bakehouse. Or if you’re at the BoardWalk already, head to BoardWalk Ice Cream, where you can get the Thundering Surf Peanut Butter and Chocolate Sundae for $9.29. And don’t forget about another of our favorite Disney World cakes — the Grapefruit Cake at the Hollywood Brown Derby. 23. The Disney Destiny is HERE, and the new Disney Cruise Line ship comes with some incredible details, theming, and storytelling. The hydra! One of the standout offerings onboard a Disney Destiny sailing is the entertainment, namely the new Broadway-style show, Hercules. This incredible production features live singers and dancers, as well as some larger-than-life effects. And during our media sailing on board the ship, we got to go behind the scenes of the show. During a special panel, we learned that it took a full two years to develop Hercules, including lots of research and development. One of the major things that had to be researched was the exoskeletons that the performers wear for the Titan costumes onstage. These things are incredible! And the development of those exoskeletons is helping to pave the way for other elaborate show elements that Disney could use in the future. The behind-the-scenes panel. Overall, there are 115 interactive elements in the show, which is the most of any of the productions in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. Between cannons, smoke, fog, and light-up electronics, the managers of the show have quite a bit to keep track of to make sure that effects happen on time (that’s 13 projectors, 10 snow machines, 12 confetti canons, and 100 automation axes). Add to that the challenges of being on a moving vessel, and rehearsals can get incredibly technical as performers navigate the struggles of working on a stage that’s moving across the ocean. Just imagine what it’s like for them to jump up and down! They’re very detailed! These tasks can be even more challenging for the performers who have to wear the exoskeleton suits. The rock Titan — whose name is Zion — also performs as the hydra that swallows Hercules during the show. He and the ice Titan performer Cam have to wear about 70 extra pounds of weight in their costumes. On top of that, there’s an additional 40 pounds of maneuverability, so at any given time, they could be moving over 100 pounds of added weight. When they’re not in the suits during the show, they perform as regular dancers. But once the suits go on? They’re weightlifting puppeteers with a story to tell to the audience. It’s a lot of pressure! These things are incredible! Thankfully, Disney has built safety precautions into these massive suits to make sure the performers can take a break if they feel off-balance or the weight is too much to bear at that moment. If you’ve been on a cruise before, you know that balance can be tricky if the boat is having a rough time, so it’s important to have these precautions in place. Safety is the utmost priority Toward the end of the panel, the showrunners admitted that they’d learned quite a bit about how to make these exoskeletons work from the run with the Hulk character suit out in Disney California Adventure. Through trial and error, they’ve been able to improve on that technology and make it more manageable for the wearers. Now, they can take these learnings and apply them to future projects for Disney Experiences. The hydra heads! Ultimately, we learned some really fascinating tidbits about this new technology from the panel with the creators of Hercules, and we can’t wait to see how Disney applies it in the future. After watching the show ourselves, we were incredibly impressed with Disney’s production — it’s a must-see onboard the ship! Stay tuned to DFB for more updates from the Disney Destiny.
