Our favorite Friar is serving up a new menu of LOADED TATER TOTS — with a Fried Twinkie for dessert! — at Friar’s Nook! Learn About: Friar's Nook Magic Kingdom Disney World Restaurants And “nook” is definitely the operative word in the name of this tiny Fantasyland Counter Service spot, which you’ll find in the shadow of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. It’s basically a row of counters with some general tables just outside where guests can also eat their ice cream from Storybook Treats. So, it was surprising when this little spot started serving up some BIG dishes, like the newly retired Barbecue Chicken Mac and Cheese. Suddenly, this humble little kiosk was totally on the radar. And now it’s right back up there with a brand new menu of LOADED TOTS!!! Friar’s Nook Sign It’s your choice of Loaded Greek Tots, Fiesta Tots, and Buffalo Chicken Tots. And to help you narrow it down, we’re trying them all for you! Friar’s Nook New Menu With a nod to the Friar, let’s tuck in. (Get it? Friar Tuck? One of my all-time favorites! Anyhoo….) Loaded Tots and Fried Twinkie First up: the Loaded Buffalo Chicken Tots are topped with Buffalo chicken (of course!), chopped celery, bleu cheese crumbles, and a bit of garlic ranch dressing. The same salty, crispy tater tots make up the base of each dish. Loaded Buffalo Chicken Tots Now, the Buffalo Chicken is packed with some pretty good flavor; that said, it wasn’t overly hot. So, that’s good news for those who are averse to hot spice, but those who love that buffalo sauce kick will probably be disappointed. Loaded Buffalo Chicken Tots The nice thing is that you can still enjoy this one even if it’s hot out. Second: the Loaded Fiesta Tots are loaded with ground beef chili, tomatoes, peppers, queso, and jalapeños. Loaded Fiesta Tots While the jalapenos deliver some heat, if the chili and queso had any spiciness, it wasn’t at all noticeable. Loaded Fiesta Tots Again, the flavor itself was solid; it just lacked that zip from any additional spice (which is either good or bad news for you, depending on your tolerance). And finally, the Loaded Greek Tots are topped with tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, onions, banana peppers, olives, and feta cheese. Loaded Greek Tots The good news? That tzatziki is pretty terrific; packed with great, cooling flavor. Loaded Greek Tots The bad news is that, in comparison to the Fiesta and Buffalo Chicken Tots, the Greek Tater Tots are a lot less “loaded.” Loaded Greek Tots For that reason, the Fiesta and Buffalo Chicken Tots offer up the most flavor. I feel like this could be an easy fix, though. And now, for dessert! The Fried Twinkie is topped with your choice of vanilla, caramel, strawberry, or chocolate sauce. It’s pictured below in the background of the Tots with strawberry. Loaded Tots and Fried Twinkie topped with strawberry sauce But, hey, we wanted to sample them all, so back we went and made a special request for all the sauces to be drizzled on the Twinkie, which was granted! Fried Twinkie I have to say, I found the outside shell to be a little overdone; it was somewhat tough to cut into the Twinkie. Fried Twinkie But the cake inside was still impressively soft, with the melted cream center adding to the nice “gooey factor” overall. Fried Twinkie From a taste perspective, the extra flavor from the fryer (not to be confused with the Friar) delivers that hint of saltiness to the sweet treat, making it a very fun dessert option. It does seems that there is a bit lacking in execution of each option on the new menu. But, it is the very first day, after all, so there is some definite promise here. This summer, we are once again giving families the chance to explore incredible destinations around the world. Our grand tour of Europe begins in the Mediterranean, followed by cruises to northern Europe, Norway and Iceland. Over the next several weeks, I’ll be putting the spotlight on several of the destination countries you can visit on a Disney cruise in Europe, starting today with Italy. Rome For the first time in 2018, Disney cruisers can experience the inspiring history of Rome on a cruise that begins or ends in The Eternal City, offering more time to explore before or after the cruise. In Rome, which is also a destination during most of our Mediterranean cruises, families can explore the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and the Vatican. Don’t miss your chance to sample authentic Italian cuisine! Milan Also for the first time in 2018, we’ll call on Genoa, Italy, a gateway to the beautiful metropolis of Milan. As a global capital of fashion and design, Milan features top-name designer stores, boutiques, open-air markets and art galleries. You may want to bring an empty suitcase on the cruise to bring home your new belongings after a shopping excursion in Milan! Florence The Renaissance city of Livorno, situated along Tuscany’s western coast, is your gateway to Florence where you can explore the Piazza della Signoria, Santa Croce Square and the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge. For a firsthand look at Michelangelo’s David, make plans to visit the Accademia Museum. Pisa Livorno is also a short trip to Pisa, home to one of the world’s most famous monuments. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of many works of art and architecture in the city’s Square of Miracles (Piazza dei Miracoli). Of course you’ll want to take a photograph of yourself holding up the tower! Naples The age-old city of Naples is dotted with Medieval, Baroque and Renaissance-era churches and castles, plus a plethora of historical museums. It’s among the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, located nearby the ancient Roman ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Magic Kingdom has its very own Rose Gold Ears Cupcake! Magic Kingdom’s Rose Gold Ears Cupcake Okay, wait… let’s back up for just a minute. Remember the Rose Gold Ears Cupcake that recently debuted at Epcot’s Sunshine Seasons? Based on the uber-popular Rose Gold Minnie Mouse Ears that are still a HUGE hit in Disney World (when you can find them, that is!), this cupcake celebrates a bunch of beloved things all at once: rose gold, Minnie Mouse, Ears (!), and CUPCAKES! Rose Gold Minnie Ears Cupcake Well, now you can stop by the Main Street Bakery to find the one in Magic Kingdom, and it can be yours for $5.49 (or a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan)! Though the Magic Kingdom cupcake is likewise topped with a pair of chocolate rose gold ears, the enormous pile of buttercream frosting is entirely rose gold hued and shaped into roses. In today’s Disney Doodle, artist Ashley Taylor imagines what Jane, from the 1999 film “Tarzan” would do first if she had the chance to visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Disneyland Resort is known for serving up some great street food-style eats. Whether your jam is a cinnamon-and-sugar-coated churro or a hand-dipped corn dog, Walt’s park has got you covered. There’s even some pretty great corn on the cob!! Wrapped Corn on the Cob And that popular street food now has a new spin — DIY elote! And our Disneyland correspondent Heather Sievers (follow her adventures @DiningInDisney) was able to grab a couple shots of the components. So, first, at the Turkey leg and Elote stands around the park, grab a corn cob. Disneyland Elote Next you’ll receive a packet of Elote components: Mayo, Tajin spice (chili, lime, and salt combo), and Parmesan Cheese. The trick is to try to layer these on the cob, mixing them together a little as you do so that every bite of the juicy corn is coupled with the creamy, spicy mix. Components of Do It Yourself Elote We love that corn-on-the-cob is an option in the parks because it’s healthy and portable. Now that we can make our own Elote, we can’t wait to eat our veggies! One of the things guests love most about Disney Parks is the way they immerse guests in a story, often down to the tiniest details. Today we begin a new series here on the Disney Parks Blog that will invite you to take a closer look at details you might have missed in some of your favorite attractions or maybe even details you may have noticed and always wondered about! This month, let’s dig deeper with one of history’s most famous archaeologists at Indiana Jones Adventure in Disneyland park. From the moment you enter the queue, Indiana Jones Adventure transports you to the past with immersive details and interactive elements. Take a close look into Indy’s office and you’ll find 1930s copy of “Life” magazine featuring Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse on the cover. There are also nods to the famous films. The wall of Indy’s office is made of crates, one of which is labeled, “Deliver to Club Obi Wan.” This is a reference to the opening sequence of “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” – which takes place in Club Obi Wan, itself an homage another famous Lucasfilm character. (If you can name this reference – of course you can – leave your guess in the comments!) There are also clues to the adventure ahead. Next to his desk, you will find a bulletin board posted with correspondence between Indy and Sallah as well as a large map of the entire temple drawn by Dr. Jones himself. Depicted here are traps, landmarks and even a guide to which gifts can be found behind each of the doorways inside the Chamber of Destiny. There are even hidden details to find once on board your troop transport. Past a menacing 45-foot-tall decaying skull of Mara and before a lunging 100-foot long King Cobra, you’ll see a skeleton wearing Mickey ears embroidered with the name “Bones.” The Temple of the Forbidden Eye is full of many more immersive details. The next time you make your way through the temple passageways, keep an eye out for archaeological tools, traps and even try to decipher some of the Maraglyphics carved into the walls. Last night, a rare “super blue blood moon” passed over Walt Disney World Resort – and Photographer David Roark was onsite to capture this rare celestial event. This rare combination of lunar eclipse, blood moon and super moon (all in one) was visible in the western hemisphere for the first time in 152 years. David was able to shoot the super blue blood moon from within Toy Story Land, which is currently under construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In this shot, Jessie, who will appear as a part of the Slinky Dog Dash attraction, is wowed by this once-in-a-lifetime sight. Thanks to David Roark for the image. View the full article

Today, we show you how she completed her delicious aventura throughout Walt Disney World Resort. The Mini Chef has been busy running around collecting all the magical ingredients necessary for the best Disney Vacation. Her visit to Magic Kingdom Park took her on an underwater expedition on Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid. She traveled around the world at Epcot and discovered wild new flavors at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. She even learned how to use the Force and become and Jedi at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I wrote about my weekly photo walks through Disneyland Resort in August. My goodness, the magic of mornings never seems to get old. Disneyland Monorail pilots prepare to shuttle eager guests to their day of fun. Magicians warm up to deliver wonder and laughs through sleight of hand at Main Street Magic Shop. A small army of horticulture specialists tend to the exotic foliage at Jungle Cruise. The rumbling growls of Mara emanate from Temple of the Forbidden Eye, beckoning the brave to Indiana Jones Adventure. The golden glow of sunrise inspires warm, optimistic visions of the future as I approach Tomorrowland. If ever there was confusion over whose it was, the seagulls at Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage continue to set the record straight: “Mine.” The maddest tea party gets cranked up as the day’s first guests pass through turnstiles. Ever since Mobile Order debuted last spring we’ve been waiting for the day when it was finally available with the Disney Disney Plan, and we’re excited to report that today is THE day! Sign directing to Regular and Mobile Order Starting today guests will be able to use their Disney Dining Plan credits to pay for Counter Service meals and snacks that they’ve ordered using Mobile Order! Mobile Order allows guests to pre-order and pre-pay for their food via the My Disney Experience app at select restaurants at the Disney World theme parks and one restaurant – D-Luxe Burger – in Disney Springs. Guests can pick up their food upon arrival and bypass the queue at the restaurant. Dole Whip at Aloha Isle Mobile Order can be used with the Quick Service Dining Plan, Standard Dining Plan, and the Deluxe Dining Plan. And, if guests don’t want to use their Disney Dining Plan credits when ordering via Mobile Order, they can still choose to pay with a credit card. The Epcot International Festival of the Arts is in full swing for its second year, celebrating the visual, performing and culinary arts from around the globe. As a designer and a foodie, this festival is my FAVORITE here at Epcot. Not only are the dishes absolutely delicious, they’re beautifully crafted too! I recently met up with my friend, Sous Chef Julia Thrash, to get a personal tour of everything that’s being cooked up at this year’s festival. Julia is one of many talented chefs who are the masterminds behind the menus at Epcot’s annual festivals. Each year, months of research and planning go into perfecting the Food Studios and the wonderful dishes they offer. While walking around the World Showcase, Julia gave me some amazing insight into the inspiration behind some of this year’s dishes and even let me taste a few of them myself! With World Wetlands Day approaching on Feb. 2, it is a good time to consider the importance of wetlands, which are essential to our future and the survival of wildlife such as a beautiful migratory bird called a Siberian crane. Siberian cranes are a critically endangered species with fewer than 4,000 existing in the wild. Also known as the “snow crane” due to their distinctive white plumage, these birds make the longest migration of any crane – flying more than 3,200 miles from Eastern Siberia to a single lake in Southeast China called Poyang Lake and back, twice a year. Because Siberian cranes feed almost exclusively on submerged aquatic plants, the existence of wetlands along their migratory route is critical to their survival. These wetland habitats are threatened because of human impacts, such as agricultural development and increasing demands for water by growing human populations. Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment Cast and the Disney Conservation Fund are working with the International Crane Foundation (ICF) to reverse the decline of Siberian cranes by working with local stakeholders in China and Russia to improve wetland management and develop sustainable ecotourism involving cranes. They are studying how to manage wetlands to benefit cranes while also creating opportunities for tourists to see and learn about these amazing birds. Beginning today, guests with Disney dining plans can redeem meals and snacks in Mobile Order, providing them with more free time to enjoy all of the attractions and entertainment experiences throughout Walt Disney World Resort. All three Disney dining plans are available with Mobile Order: Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan, the Disney Dining Plan and Quick-Service, Regular and the Disney Deluxe Dining Plan. Star Wars: Galactic Nights, the popular one-night event, is returning to Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 27th from 7:oo PM until midnight! Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular ©Disney This Star Wars-themed event celebrates everything Star Wars with character encounters, special entertainment, specialty merchandise, and of course Star Wars-themed food and drink! During Star Wars: Galactic Nights, The Hollywood Tower Hotel will be transformed via projection technology showing locations from across the Star Wars galaxy. This event-exclusive will also feature fan favorite moments from the Star Wars films, special effects, and the Star Wars score. The Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular fireworks and the Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away stage show are part of the celebration, but each will debut new elements during the Galactic Nights celebration. This spring, Wine Bar George is set to open in Disney Springs, and we’ve got some scoop for all of you wine lovers out there who are eagerly awaiting news on this upcoming spot! Wine Bar George Will Open Spring 2018 As you may already know, Master Sommelier George Miliotes was a member of the opening team at the Contemporary Resort’s California Grill, then managed the signature restaurant from 1995 to 2002. There, he worked with Ron Rupert, who was also a member of the opening team and has just been announced as the Executive Chef for Wine Bar George! Sommelier Miliotes and Executive Chef Ron Rupert © Wine Bar George Chef Rupert also served as part of the opening teams at Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Jiko as well as Ariel’s at the Yacht and Beach Club. Looking towards the future, Chef Rupert and Sommelier Miliotes have worked together side by side to create the upcoming menu for Wine Bar George, with options meant to pair well with the wine list which will feature more than 100 selections by the glass and bottle. Small Bites © Wine Bar George Chef Rupert shared: “The menu will include a selection of small plates, shareable plates, cheese and charcuterie boards, and desserts. Offerings will feature seasonally relevant items and everything will be made in-house. I’ve worked jointly with George to develop a menu that represents both global and local cuisine. Guests can expect to experience food that is familiar, yet new all at once.” Interior Artwork © Wine Bar George Guests will be able to peruse that wine list and food menu in a two-story, 6,000-square-foot-space with seating for 210 people. The space will be made to resemble a winemaker’s home estate offering a welcoming and warm atmosphere. According to Sommelier Miliotes, “Guests will experience a feel reminiscent of the ‘Old World’ as if they are on the bottom floor of a gravity-flow winery surrounded by their best friends. The upstairs floor includes seating for groups of all sizes, space for private events and sweeping views of Disney Springs.” And among those aforementioned friends will be visiting renowned winemakers and special events which will allow wine drinkers of all kinds to expand their knowledge. The Epcot International Festival of the Arts is in full swing here at the Walt Disney World Resort – and Disney Artist Will Gay is just one of the amazingly talented artists featured at this year’s event. In case you aren’t familiar with Will’s “Sketches in the Park” series here on the blog, Will regularly visits a Disney theme park early in the morning to sketch or paint “plein air,” which in the art world means creating art straight from the field. He then shares his original work with us in his series on the first Friday of each month. In honor of this year’s Epcot International Festival of the Arts, Will has graciously allowed our #DisneyParksLIVE cameras to follow him on his next plein air adventure at Epcot, which we’ll stream live here on the Disney Parks Blog on Thursday, February 1. The live stream will begin Thursday at 7:30 a.m. ET. Unlike other #DisneyParksLIVE streams, this will be our first “long-form” live stream, meaning you can pop in and out to see how Will progresses in his painting throughout the morning, from blank canvas to finished piece. Dave Bautista, who stars as Drax in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, visited Disney California Adventure park yesterday, making a special stop at Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! to visit with an old friend. “I am Groot!” exclaimed Groot upon his arrival. Dave also took the opportunity to explore The Collector’s Fortress and its famous collection of artifacts from throughout the galaxy.
