Last night, the Philadelphia Eagles’ earned their place in Super Bowl history with a win over the New England Patriots 41-33. When Eagles star Nick Foles was asked what he is going to do next, he shouted: “I’m going to Disney World!” Indeed, the hero of Super Bowl LII will appear at the Walt Disney World Resort in just a bit to take part in a magical celebration at Magic Kingdom Park: Foles will be the star of a hero’s parade down Main Street, U.S.A., with popular Disney characters, festive music and lots of confetti. Afterwards, he will enjoy some fun time in the park, experiencing some of Walt Disney World Resort’s signature attractions. It’s that time of year again – time to start placing your bets on when the 2018 Free Disney Dining Plan will be announced. We all know how popular free dining has become in recent years and we’re betting that this year won’t be any different! Mickey Waffles! The Disney World free dining offer includes a free Disney Dining Plan with the purchase of a Walt Disney World Resort hotel and ticket package. The “free” part of the name pulls you in, but just remember that you’ll be paying full price for your resort hotel room when you book free dining. And this year – for the first time ever – alcohol is included in the Disney Dining Plan, which might be a game changer as far as the offer is concerned! In the past, free dining was announced for less crowded (non-peak) times during the year – late summer, early fall, and early winter (before the holiday season). But let’s be honest, there’s really no such thing as a non-peak season anymore. So if an offer comes out this year, we’re expecting the options will include more summer dates. In 2017, free dining was announced in mid-April, so that could be when we can expect it this year. And, based on previous years, we’re thinking that check-in dates for 2018 might include mid-August through September, the second half of November (excluding Thanksgiving week), and some of December. Brown Derby Lounge Margarita Flight As we mentioned, the 2018 Disney Dining Plan now includes alcohol, which means guests ages 21 and older can can choose either one non-alcoholic beverage (including specialty beverages where offered) or one single serving mixed cocktail, beer, or wine (where offered) with their meal entitlement. This applies to the Quick Service, Standard, and Deluxe Dining Plans! The question is – does this impact Disney’s need to offer Free Dining? Will the dining plan be more popular with alcohol added? We’ll see! How to Get Disney World Free Dining The key to planning around the Disney Dining Plan dates is to book as soon as the offer is released. There is always a limited number of rooms available during free dining — and if recent years are any indication, they’ll go very quickly. Last year, guests staying at Deluxe resorts were offered the free Standard Disney Dining Plan, while guests at Moderate and Value resorts were offered the Quick-Service Disney Dining Plan for free. A good tip is to book one of the resorts usually included in the offer ahead of time. When free dining is announced, simply add free dining to your vacation package (quickly — it does sell out). We anticipate 2018 Free Dining information will be released this spring, perhaps in early-to-mid April. In years past the dates have been announced in late April or early May, but anything can happen. So stay tuned to DFB and the DFB Newsletter for details as soon as we have them. The Disney Dining Plan can be a good deal, but we always recommend crunching the numbers, especially when “free” dining is involved. Last year we brought you the news that the legendary Club 33 was coming to the Walt Disney World Resort in the form of four lounges – one in each theme park. Club 33 Seating And finally, Club 33 membership invites have begun! Note that you do have to be invited to apply at this time. The reported membership price is $25,000 for a joining fee, with annual dues of $15,000. Members will be able to access all four Club 33 lounges at Disney World, but will not automatically be members at Club 33 in Disneyland. While it’s not confirmed where the lounges will be located in each park, the Magic Kingdom location will likely be in the Adventureland Veranda, which is currently under construction. Adventureland Veranda construction Disney has not announced an opening date for Club 33 at Disney World, but the speculation is that they will open this year. Philadelphia’s Super Bowl celebration is just getting under way in Minneapolis, and here at Walt Disney World Resort we are feverishly working to bring the power of magic to life after the big game. And now I’m thrilled to announce that, just moments ago as Philadelphia clinched its historic Super Bowl title in Minneapolis, Eagles star Nick Foles was asked what he is going to do next and he shouted: “I’m going to Disney World!” Indeed, the hero of Super Bowl LII will soon be on his way to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida after becoming the latest NFL star to utter those iconic words as part of a national TV campaign following his team’s Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots. He played a huge role in Philadelphia’s triumph, throwing three touchdown passes and he, himself, catching a touchdown pass, becoming the first quarterback in Super Bowl history to do that. In the end, Foles helped propel his team past the Patriots and into the Super Bowl record books. Once he arrives at Walt Disney World Resort, we will pay tribute to him and the Eagles with a magical celebration at Magic Kingdom Park on Monday at 2:40 p.m. Foles will be the star of a hero’s parade down Main Street, U.S.A., with popular Disney characters, festive music and lots of confetti. When you enter Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Hawai‘i, you’ll notice the colorful sights of the soaring Maka‘ala lobby. This summer, beloved stories from several Disney films will come to life at Walt Disney World in the form of new attractions, entertainment, experiences and more at all four parks, setting up summer 2018 to truly be an “Incredible Summer.” Here’s what to expect at each Walt Disney World Resort location. The Incredibles Take Over Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park – Guests can party with Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, and Frozone from Disney•Pixar’s “The Incredibles” and the soon-to-be blockbuster “Incredibles 2.” Edna Mode, the greatest superhero costume designer, will also make her debut appearance. Each evening, guests can enjoy a “SUPER” dance party on the Rocket Tower Stage. [NOTE: Disney•Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” opens in theaters June 15, 2018.] The Guardians of the Galaxy Take the Stage at Epcot – StarLord, and Gamora from “The Guardians of the Galaxy” will join an alien band, taking guests on a journey through the cosmos. The party will feature hits from Awesome Mix Tapes 1 and 2 – fun and favorite tunes from the two movies’ soundtracks – building the anticipation for a new Epcot Guardians of the Galaxy attraction. “Adventurers Meet UP! A Great Bird Adventure” & A “Dino-Tastic” Celebration for Donald Duck Will Debut At Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Two new can’t-miss offerings will debut at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in time for the park’s 20th anniversary. First, guests can discover new bird species from around the world at the new show “Adventurers Meet UP! A Great Bird Adventure,” which will star Senior Wilderness Explorer Russell and his furry friend Dug. The park will also launch a “dino-tastic” celebration, in which Donald Duck takes over Dinoland, U.S.A., in a new character celebration. See “The Incredibles 2” at AMC Disney Springs – Everyone’s favorite family of superheroes is back in “Incredibles 2” – but this time Helen is in the spotlight, while Bob navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet, Dash and baby Jack-Jack, whose superpowers are emerging. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone must find a way to work together again—which is easier said than done, even when they’re all Incredible. “Incredibles 2” busts into theaters on June 15, 2018. And last, but not least … Gallery Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios view all Toy Story Land Opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios – One major highlight of “Incredible Summer” will be the grand opening of Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This new 11-acre land will shrink guests to the size of a toy and allow them go explore the fun and adventure of Andy’s backyard. There, guests can experience two new attractions: the family coaster Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers. Toy Story Land also will feature an existing guest-favorite attraction, Toy Story Mania!, which will expand to add a third track into the rotation. The land’s Woody’s Lunch Box will be a new quick-service restaurant that will offer up tasty meals and old-fashioned soda floats to Toy Story Land guests. Two of Disney on Broadway’s brightest stars will mix and mingle with Disney Vacation Club Members during a one-night-only reception in the Member Lounge at Epcot to cap off a special evening of entertainment on Feb. 17. This Membership Magic event begins with guaranteed seating at the America Gardens Theatre for the Epcot International Festival of the Arts Disney on Broadway Concert starring Ashley Brown (Broadway’s original Mary Poppins) and Josh Strickland (Broadway’s original Tarzan). The evening continues with an exclusive dessert party as Members enjoy IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth from a reserved viewing area in the United Kingdom pavilion before Cast Members escort the group to the Member Lounge (atop the Imagination Pavilion in Future World) for a toast with Ashley and Josh. I’ve been deeply fortunate to get to know these engaging stars aboard numerous Disney Vacation Club Member Cruise voyages, and I look eagerly forward to joining you – and introducing them – at the Member Lounge reception. The cost is $70 a person for adults and $40 a person for kids ages 3-17 (Epcot admission required but not included).
