AND you may be able to find him floating around Disney World, too, where he’s exclusive to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary-Halloween Party. Glowing Oogie Still, Ooogie Boogie is not the only creepy collectible at Disney Parks this fall. Different pieces will start arriving throughout September AND October, so you’ll have to keep your eyes — and social media feeds — peeled! Hitchhiking Ghosts Tiki Mug Let’s start with the Hitchhiking Ghosts Tiki Mug… you may recall this uber-popular-causing-lines-for-DAYYZZZ collectible from Halloween 2016. It was available (in a different color for each coast) at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar in Disneyland, and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto in Disney World. 2016 Hitchhiking Ghosts Tiki Mug And the ghosts will be materializing again! Disney has confirmed that a 2nd edition is on the way once more to the Trader Sam’s locations on both the west and east coast! MORE Popcorn Buckets We’ve already spied the super adorable Mickey Pumpkin Popcorn Bucket in Disneyland, along with Oogie Boogie. You’ll also find a Mickey Pumpkin Glow Bottle Topper in Disneyland park. The Poison Apple Stein has been a hit on both coasts for a couple of years now. Poison Apple Stein-turned-Lantern at home! This year, you’ll find the ghoulish stein throughout Disneyland Resort at both parks and each hotel. And the Poison Apple Glow Cubes will return to Disneyland, too! Poison Apple Glow Cubes The red glow cube will be available at both parks and each hotel, but you’ll have to visit Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge to get your hands on the exclusive GREEN Poison Apple Glow Cube. ©Disney And, of course, new this year for Haul-O-Ween in Cars Land is the Traffic Cone Sipper, complete with Halloween stickers! Last year, the Disney Conservation Fund (DCF) introduced its Reverse the Decline, Increase the Time initiative, in part to help populations of threatened animals around the world. The DCF provides grants and applies the expertise of cast members to address the threats facing 10 endangered species in the wild, including great apes. September 24 is the first World Gorilla Day, and we are celebrating by sharing information about Grauer’s gorillas, one of the most endangered primates in the world. As part of Disney’s commitment to conservation, we have supported sanctuaries in the Democratic Republic of Congo, including Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education (GRACE) Center, a place for young great apes orphaned by poaching or the international wildlife trade. Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment Cast Members have worked with GRACE for years, helping establish its facilities and advance their training. Recently, staff members reached out to the Disney team when they were puzzled by an increase in the number of gorillas with dental issues at the center. Believing this to be a result of their diet, Dr. Natalie Mylniczenko, Disney veterinarian and GRACE veterinary consultant, contacted Shannon Livingston, Disney assistant animal nutritionist, and began to delve deeper. The gorillas eat mostly vegetation, but the GRACE staff supplements a small part of their diet with a nutrient-rich, porridge-like substance that can stick to the gorilla’s teeth, potentially causing tooth decay. Shannon set out to make a nutrient-filled biscuit that could replace the porridge and be less likely to stick to their teeth. Shannon started experimenting in her home kitchen using ingredients that could be locally sourced in the community surrounding GRACE. Using baking recipes with limited ingredients as a starting point, she came up with a simple recipe. To ensure they were tasty, Shannon made biscuits for the gorillas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. These first taste-testers loved them so much, they were “singing” (making content humming sounds) while feeding. When Dr. Natalie took the recipe to GRACE, she helped make the first batch of biscuits and said the gorillas at GRACE enjoyed them so much, they were singing, too. You can help support Disney’s efforts to reverse the decline of gorillas and other animals by taking part in Connect to Protect, a mobile adventure in which guests participate in conservation ‘missions’ with a digital scientist while exploring Pandora – The World of Avatar and helping protect the habits of at-risk animals here on Earth. To learn more about gorillas and other animals you can see at Walt Disney World Resort, visit DisneyAnimals.com. PHOTOS COURTESY OF GRACE. View the full article

Ahoy! With International Talk Like a Pirate Day being celebrated on September 19, I recently set sail to Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort in search of pirate-themed treasures. During my adventure, I dug up several must-have souvenirs in the Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar located near the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in Adventureland. Those dreaming of a pirate’s life will find a variety of items for adults and kids, including stylish apparel inspired by “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”. This motion picture will be available for digital download on September 19 and on Blu-ray starting October 3. The location also carries the Pirates of the Caribbean-themed handbag collection by Dooney & Bourke released earlier this summer. I spotted several pirate-themed mugs including one with artwork created by SHAG (Josh Agle) to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the original Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disneyland park. Guests who enjoy trading Disney pins will find plenty of collectible pins and pirate-themed trading accessories. Look for a picture-disc vinyl album containing songs from the attraction, or the “Pirates of the Caribbean” hardcover book with CD containing illustrations by Mike Wall that accompany the lyrics of the swashbuckling song, “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me).” Finally, guests ages 3 or older can join Captain Jack Sparrow’s crew at The Pirates League in Magic Kingdom Park. At this location, Pirate Masters magically transform guests into a pirate, empress or mermaid while telling tall tales of sunken ships and buried treasure. Guests can make reservations up to 180 days in advance by calling 407-WDW-CREW (407-939-2739). Look for many of these pirate products in select merchandise locations throughout Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. You may also find select items via the Shop Disney Parks app or on DisneyStore.com. View the full article

Today we’re celebrating International Talk Like A Pirate Day on the Disney Parks Blog by hearing the tale of how Pirates of the Caribbean came to be from none other than Walt Disney himself. In this video clip, taken from an episode of “Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color” that aired in 1965, Walt and Disneyland Ambassador Julie Reihm tour WED Enterprises for a look at Audio-Animatronics figures, sculptures, models and sketches that would launch the first Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disneyland park. The success of this adventurous attraction, which debuted at the park in 1967, would become an essential experience at Disney theme parks around the world. (While watching the video, be sure to keep an eye out for cameos by Disney Legends Blaine Gibson and Claude Coats, who combined also lent their talents to creating the Haunted Mansion, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, Snow White’s Scary Adventures, Carousel of Progress, “it’s a small world” and more). So recently we showed you a treat that looks very much like it would be loaded with all sortsa Pumpkin Spice flavor. Learn About: Ghirardelli Soda Fountain Downtown Disney Disney World Restaurants Only it’s not. The super cute Pumpkin Cupcake you’ll find at sweet spots such as the Main Street Confectionery, Big Top Treats, and Goofy’s Candy Co. is topped with a pumpkin-shaped dollop of orange frosting, but the flavor is pure vanilla. You can click here to check it out. Today, though, we’re going in the opposite direction with a treat that doesn’t look remotely pumpkin-esque, but is positively PACKED with loads of autumnal spices for those of you who are ready to get your PUMPKIN ON this fall. Allow me to introduce you to… the Pumpkin Spice Caramel Shake at Ghiraradelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop in Disney Springs! Ghirardelli Pumpkin Spice Caramel Cocoa and Shake “Pumpkin Perfection,” indeed! You’ll also notice that Pumpkin Spice Caramel Hot Cocoa is also on the menu. However, at this point in the game in Central Florida, even though the nights really are getting pleasant, it’s not quite “curl up with a cup of cocoa” weather just yet. (As you can tell, we have to get a little creative when it comes to celebrating autumn in these parts.) And, frankly, I had already made up my mind about the Shake, anyway. It comes to you looking like your basic vanilla shake, only with loads of scrumptious Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate Fudge coating the sides. Pumpkin Spice Caramel Shake (Thankfully, the Cast Member brought out a spoon as well as a straw, to catch all that goodness at the end!). On the top? That’s where the pumpkin-fest starts, with the classic Ghiradelli Square. It’s the Pumpkin Spice Caramel version. (Woot!) Pumpkin Spice Caramel Chocolate Square on Top You’ll spy a little bit of caramel drizzled over the whipped cream, too. And, YES, it’s already the season when the daily free sample at Ghirardelli is quite often the Pumpkin Spice Caramel Square, so don’t forget to stop by! Pumpkin Spice Caramel Square Diving into the shake, I have to say that I barely picked up on much caramel at all. What I DID get, though, was a heaping helping of that pumpkin spice throughout the entire thing! Pumpkin Spice Caramel Shake At first, thoughts of traditional pumpkin pie flooded my brain, but then I realized what I was really reminded of… all that vanilla ice cream and dollop of whipped cream coupled with the cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger flavors really made me think of the whipped topping served in combination with the pumpkin pie… which is only THE BEST PART OF PUMPKIN PIE (in my opinion, anyway)! So, it’s those terrific fall flavors of pumpkin spice and cream, but instead in a thick vanilla ice cream base. You can keep your Pumpkin Spice Lattes… I’m all about the Pumpkin Spice Caramel Shake!
