  1. Do you have what it takes to stop the Empire? Disney Floral & Gifts, in partnership with Lucasfilm, is happy to announce the launch of the new Star Wars Rebels Interactive Adventure. For those brave enough to answer the call for this mission, an adventure awaits. To help you get started, below are 4 mission details you’ll need to know to thwart the Empire! Top Secret Mission Detail #1: The Mission The Star Wars Rebels Interactive Adventure takes you from your resort room “barracks” on an interactive role-playing mission to the Star Tours Attraction. You’ll go “under cover” as an Imperial Security Officer, complete with rank bar, cap, satchel, and diversion tattoos. The Empire is always watching, so make sure they don’t identify you as the Rebel Spy! Top Secret Mission Detail #2: The Tech The adventure features unique technology exclusive to this experience. Through an augmented reality app on your smartphone, Ezra Bridger leads you on a mission to thwart the Empire. By scanning targets or “wayfinders” featured around your resort room and Star Tours, Ezra leads you to hidden information and gear needed to complete your mission. The rebel tech on your phone allows you to experience the adventure again and again, even after returning home from the Disney Parks! Top Secret Mission Detail #3: The Gear With equipment to help on your adventure, the mission includes a disguise and your data card to transmit information to the rebels at Star Tours. Other collectibles include a Jedi holocron, lightsaber, Rebel journal, 4 Empire recruitment posters, and an Empire door banner. Have multiple rebels in your party? You can add-on elements of this adventure for everyone to experience! Top Secret Mission Detail #4: The Reward Once you’ve completed your mission, you’ll be rewarded like any true hero with a Medal of Bravery. Presented in a rebel lock box wrapped with a Phoenix symbol, this medal can only be recovered upon completion of your mission. Like the one seen in the film Star Wars: A New Hope, the medal’s design features a lanyard, which can be personalized, to identify your victory. Are you brave enough to answer the call and thwart the Empire’s efforts? Then enlist today by visiting the Disney Floral and Gifts at Walt Disney World, (407-WDW-GIFT) or Disney Floral and Gifts at Disneyland (714-781-GIFT). Delivery to Disney resorts begins August 15th. 3. We’re coming to you today from Saratoga Springs Resort, where an updated version of the Refillable Resort Mugs has been spotted at The Artist’s Palette (the Counter Service restaurant for Saratoga Springs). The Artist’s Palette Sign Now, typically when we talk about updated Refillable Resort Mugs, we’re referring to new graphics on the mug. For instance, the most recent design change took place last October when the artwork on the mugs was updated to depict the Fab Five driving under the famous Walt Disney World entrance gate. This time, though, the change is not to the graphics, but to the structure of the mug itself… which might be referred to as a cup or tumbler at this point, since the new cups no longer have handles attached. Handle-free Refillable Resort Mug Again, we found this mug at Saratoga Springs; reports vary as to whether or not they’re available at other Resorts at this time. There is also a limited amount of mugs with handles left at The Artist’s Palette. However, according to a Cast Member we spoke with, all mugs will be strictly handle-free once those are sold out, and it’s anticipated that this will be a change across all Disney World Resorts. Many guests might enjoy the change, as the cups may now fit easier into things like cup holders in cars or on strollers. Others, though, prefer handles which offer a way to attach the cups to their bags with an added strap or carabiner, or for ease in carrying. Handle-free Refillable Resort Mug But we’re curious to know what YOU think. Though guests participating in the Disney Dining Plan automatically receive the Refillable Mugs as part of the plan, they also remain available for individual purchase for Resort guests not utilizing the Plan. Refillable Resort Mug Purchase Sign Would this change affect whether or not you would purchase the mug? What do you think of the handle-free Refillable Resort Mugs? Please let us know with a comment! 4. I have exciting news to share with you today. A brand new attraction called Miss Fortune Falls is coming to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon in spring of 2017! Miss Fortune Falls will be a family-style raft attraction that takes guests on a splashing journey through the fabled Captain Mary Oceanear’s past. Legend has it that Captain Oceanear, a treasure-hunting heroine, travelled across the sea collecting unique artifacts before she became stranded at Typhoon Lagoon many years ago by a rogue storm. Onboard treasure rafts, guests will ascend to the top of the attraction before plunging into a white-water adventure where they will be able to spot some of the treasures Captain Oceanear gathered from around the world. With a ride time of two minutes, Miss Fortune Falls will be among the lengthiest attractions at both Disney Water Parks. I can’t wait to share more details about this new addition to Typhoon Lagoon as they emerge, so stay tuned! View the full article
  5. With the dazzling Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration coming to a close on September 5, we’re pleased to announce that this fall will see the return of two favorite nighttime spectaculars. At Disney California Adventure park, the original version of “World of Color” will be presented, beginning September 6, with all the great sequences of Disney animation and music you remember, from WALL-E and Eve zipping through the cosmos to Pocahontas exploring just around the riverbend. Across the Esplanade at Disneyland park, you’ll once again be able to enjoy the timeless soundtrack of Disney’s “Fantasy in the Sky” fireworks spectacular when it lights up the sky over Sleeping Beauty Castle Friday through Sunday evenings starting September 9. Versions of “Fantasy in the Sky” date back to 1958, when Walt Disney envisioned the show as a spectacular “kiss goodnight” for his Disneyland guests. “World of Color” and “Fantasy in the Sky” will each be presented through the early November kickoff of Holidays at the Disneyland Resort. So go ahead and plan your visit, and get your nostalgia on! View the full article

  10. Anyone remember this beauty? Disneyland Peanut Butter Sandwich Oh, MY… how I loved the Peanut Butter Sandwich: a simple but practically perfect sweet-and-salty mix of peanut butter and graham cracker covered in a thick layer of chocolate! It used to be widely available in both Disney World and Disneyland. Then it slowly was removed from the scene in Disney World, to be found ONLY in Disneyland. And then, the worst came to be. We got word that it was being phased out in Disneyland as well. And you ALL know the pain of having one of your favorite Disney snacks ripped mercilessly from your grip. BUT… Imagine my surprise — and delight — when I happened upon THIS at Pooh Corner in Critter Country YESTERDAY! Peanut Butter Sandwich at Pooh Corner According to a Cast Member I spoke with, Disney has brought them back for a trial run! The difference? These days they are made in-house (previously, Disney had purchased them from a third party), so they’re slightly different than the previous version. Current Peanut Butter Sandwich The outer chocolate layer has been spruced up a bit with a dark chocolate Mickey and sprinkling of nuts. Current Peanut Butter Sandwich And inside, you’ll notice that the layer of peanut butter is MUCH thicker than the nearly half-and-half ratio of the previous sandwich. WOO! Inside the Current Peanut Butter Sandwich Remember, the Cast Member said this is a trial run only. It’s definitely available at Pooh Corner, but I didn’t get over to Candy Palace or Trolley Treats to check their stock, yet, so let me know if you see it in either of those two spots. Availability may change at any time. It probably goes without saying that I’m hoping it passes the trial test. Just in case, though, I’m grabbing a few extra for the road. And if you spot it I’d HIGHLY suggest picking one (or two. Or five.) up for yourself! Are you glad to see the return of the Disneyland Peanut Butter Sandwich? Please let us know with a comment! 11. Last week, Disney Parks Blog author Pam Brandon shared details on what guests can expect to find on the menu when Flying Fish restaurant reopens at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort this month. This week, our friends at Walt Disney Imagineering shared some new details on the enhanced storyline and design guests can expect to experience at the restaurant. Situated at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort, Flying Fish celebrates the heyday of luxury seaside resorts and boardwalks of yesteryear. The inspiration for the fresh design is none other than the beloved flying fish of Disney’s BoardWalk, which are subtly suggested throughout the location – from upholstery patterns to kitchen tiles. Be sure to check out the restaurant’s sparkling architectural accents, which include golden-winged room panels and a glittering chandelier that mimics a school of flying fish swimming overhead. The restaurant also features boardwalk-inspired mementos like carnival art, vintage games, and a nod to the legendary “Flying Turns” rollercoaster. View the full article

  14. As Magic Kingdom Park’s 45th anniversary approaches this fall, this new weekly series will take a look at one of the park’s opening day attractions that can still be enjoyed today. This week, we’ll focus on Jungle Cruise. One attraction that debuted at Magic Kingdom Park on opening day that remains a guest favorite is the Jungle Cruise. The “original” Jungle Cruise attraction opened in 1955 at Disneyland park and was originally inspired by Disney’s True-Life Adventure “African Lion” film and offered serious and educational tone (and at one point, featuring real animals at the attraction was even considered). Obviously, Audio-Animatronics technology won out. The direction of the attraction changed in the 1960s, when Walt Disney asked his righthand man (and now Disney Legend) Marc Davis to create some gags that would give the attraction a light-hearted tone. Today at Magic Kingdom Park the attraction consists of a 10-minute ride that takes boatloads of guests on an adventurous journey through the Amazon, the African Congo, the Nile River and more. The fun is narrated by a Jungle Cruise Skipper, who’s guaranteed to show you a good time and plenty of “punny” narration. This classic attraction hasn’t changed much since it’s debut at Magic Kingdom Park in 1971, with the exception of a special holiday overlay that began in 2013 to transform the Jungle Cruise into the Jingle Cruise. During Jingle Cruise season, guests can expect to see the addition of Skipper-designed holiday decorations, seasonal jokes told in Skipper style, holiday tunes and more. Most recently, the theming of the Jungle Cruise and the humor of the Skippers inspired a brand-new restaurant – the Jungle Skipper Canteen – which opened its doors nearby in Adventureland. 15. August 10 is National S’mores Day and at Disneyland Resort, we’re celebrating by lining the candy cases with our popular s’mores gourmet treats for the entire month of August! Look for s’mores gourmet apples dipped in caramel and milk chocolate, then carefully layered with graham crackers and toasted mini marshmallows. We’ll also have a s’mores crispy treat as well, prepared almost identically, just without the caramel. The finishing touch for both—milk chocolate drizzled on top. Delish! A new addition to the list this year is the s’mores square. We start with a graham cracker base, add a handmade marshmallow, toast it to perfection and then enrobe in milk chocolate. Also joining the gourmet candy line up is a brand new concoction—the peanut butter square. Let me see if I can sum it up in six words. Graham cracker, peanut butter and chocolate! Done! Don’t worry, “camping out” isn’t necessary to try these treats – look for them starting today at Candy Palace on Main Street, U.S.A., and Hunny Spot in Critter Country in Disneyland park; Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure park; and Marceline’s Confectionery in the Downtown Disney District. Which s’mores treat are you most looking forward to trying? Let us know in the comments below! View the full article

  18. The “Welcome to Our World!” series here on Disney Parks Blog is designed to introduce those of you who might be newer to Disney fandom or vacation planning to some of the happenings across our Disney Parks, which you may want to consider for an upcoming visit. As part of the series, I wanted to take an opportunity to tell you about one of my favorite annual events at Walt Disney World Resort – Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a separately-ticketed event offered from 7 p.m. to midnight, after regular Magic Kingdom Park operating hours, on select nights throughout September and October. After dark, the park is transformed with special music and lighting effects, and there are unique entertainment experiences that only happen during the event. Presented several times throughout the night on the Cinderella Castle Forecourt Stage is “Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular,” in which the mischievous Sanderson sisters from Disney’s Halloween film favorite “Hocus Pocus” enlist the help of the Disney villains to conjure the ultimate party potion and cast a spell on everyone in the kingdom! “Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade” happens twice nightly (the second showing is usually less busy) and features many of your favorite characters dressed in their Halloween best, along with the Disney villains and a cavalcade of fiendishly fun floats. And you can cap off your night with “Happy HalloWishes,” a spectacularly spooky fireworks show that literally surrounds the park with powerful pyrotechnics! Upon entering the park for the event, you’ll be given a complimentary Trick-or-Treat bag, so you can collect lots of goodies at the treat stations set up in every land. When I go with my family, we usually save our Trick-or-Treating until later in the evening. The stations tend to quiet down a bit, and there’s always plenty of great candy to go around! Many of our guests even choose to attend the party in costume, and I’ve seen some truly great ones over the years. Of course, you’ll want to review the event-specific costume guidelines before planning your own ensemble. In addition to all the special Halloween enhancements, most of the regular Magic Kingdom Park attractions, shops, restaurants and character greetings are also available during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. On party nights, there’s something extra fun about experiencing the Haunted Mansion or stopping in to chat with Mickey Mouse at Town Square Theater. Best of all, it’s “not so scary,” just as the name implies. This is pure Halloween fun for all ages, presented in the grand Disney tradition of world-class family entertainment. You’ll love it! For complete details, including this year’s dates and a link to purchase event tickets, be sure to visit the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party page at DisneyWorld.com. View the full article

Ferries, Fireworks, and Dessert But now, you can party in Mad Hatter fashion at the Grand Floridian, thanks to Gone Mad Wishes Fireworks Party! Now, there are plenty of treats and drinks that you can purchase. Think of this gathering as something similar to those pool parties that happen during afternoons around the resort. But there is one big, bold difference: this is an Alice in Wonderland-themed party. And so you’d expect things to be a little wonky and a little wild. In addition to crazy themed eats and drinks, like Cheshire Cat Cupcakes and Green Potion Punch, seating is guaranteed to make you smile as well. Because they’ve furnished the party with chairs and ottomans from the Mad T Party at Disneyland! The Awesome Furniture Makes the Party! If you’re looking to join in on the fun, remember to head to the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa on Wednesdays from 8:30 until 10:30. Reservations are not required, and anyone can join in — you don’t have to be staying at the Grand Floridian to take part. But just a word of caution: call ahead and to make sure that the party is taking place during your visit. At this time, there is no indication how long the parties will continue to take place. 20. Last week, Wabasso High School’s theater students from Minnesota thought they were having the time of their lives at Walt Disney World Resort while participating in a Disney Performing Arts program. Then in their middle of their trip, it got even better. Broadway legend Chita Rivera, who was vacationing at Walt Disney World Resort, took a moment while at Epcot to visit an “Acting 101” workshop, designed to help build character, develop improvisational skills and maintain professionalism on the stage. Rivera talked to the students from Minnesota about her illustrious career and offered some insights into working on the big stage. Rivera, of course, has plenty of experience to draw on. In addition to her Tony Award-winning work in “The Rink,” and “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” Rivera received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009 from President Barack Obama for her contribution to culture and the arts. She even has experience with Disney after her guest starring role many years ago as Queen of All Magical Beings on Disney Channel’s “Johnny and the Sprites.” “I look at you all, and I see myself because I was so young when I started out,” Rivera told the students. “So I know what you are all going through and how exciting it is for you to be here at Walt Disney World. It’s like a dream come true.” Some recent past examples of other industry professional encounters include Grammy –winning Pentatonix star Kevin Olusola, former ‘Newsies’ star Corey Cott and Ashley Brown, who originated the part of Mary Poppins on Broadway. Disney Performing Arts unlocks student potential and helps young people make their dreams come true — whether it’s performing amongst an international audience of thousands or honing their craft in enriching workshops and clinics taught by entertainment professionals at Disney Parks. Disney delivers workshops and performance opportunities that inspire and often lead to life-changing personal achievement.
