  4. It’s well known that Walt Disney came up with the concept for Disneyland — and, subsequently, Disney World — because he thought there should be a place that parents and kids could enjoy together. Cinderella Castle And we’re so glad he did! Every Disney World vacation has its moments when it comes to traveling with little ones. And most of those moments are COMPLETELY. AWESOME. But, let’s face it. Not all of them are exactly the kind of memories we want to share on our Facebook page… know what I’m sayin’? So we’ve devised a list of tips and tricks — some food related, some not-so-much — to help you plan a Disney trip your kids will LOVE! Here we go! Plot Your Chicken Nugget Route Carefully Sometimes, our little angels can be somewhat intolerant. An unfamiliar restaurant can make a kid stop in his tracks and wail, “Eww! I don’t wanna eat THERE!” Here’s a good tried and true strategy to help reduce those moments: let them help plan the food journey. A lot of times, it’s the fear of the unknown that makes kids balk at new eating establishments. Once they’ve looked at the menu and are assured that their beloved nuggets and fries are available….with a Souvenir Light Up Cup!…they’re more willing to give it a try. Kids’ Chicken Nuggets Meal Then, when they give you the side eye when you walk up to the restaurant, you can say, “Hey, kid. Don’t look at me. YOU picked this one!” (And then make them pay for it.) Book At Least One Character Meal That being said, make sure to book at least one Character Meal. Lines for characters around the Parks can be CRAZY long if you don’t have a Fastpass. A Character Meal (you can check out all of the restaurants, meal times, and featured characters here) is a great way to interact with a handful of characters, grab some autographs, and snap some photos, all in one fell swoop. Winnie the Pooh at Crystal Palace Plus, there’s food. AND it’s a great way to see how the littlest ones are going to react to to the costumed characters. (Will they freak or will they fawn?) For instance, a first day visit to Crystal Palace is a good way to test the waters before you stand in a 45 minute line in the Parks, only to find out your World’s Biggest Pooh Fan just ISN’T DOWN with a five-foot Pooh Bear who has feet the size of her torso. Much easier to swallow that info while you’re eating Mickey Waffles in an air-conditioned room. Take A Spin Around YouTube Another way to help the kids get on board with the planning is to show them videos of the rides in the Parks you’ll be visiting so they’ll know what they can expect. Ask them what their favorite rides are from the videos you watched together (make sure to check the height requirements so you don’t have any disappointed shorties!) and then book Fastpasses for their favorites. Does your little one dream of flying with Dumbo? Bonus tip! You can check out even more Disney Tips through our DFB YouTube Channel! Buy Some Cheap Disney Souvenirs Make a plan to pick up a few inexpensive Disney items from the dollar store before you leave for your trip and stash them in your suitcase. Because, let me just tell you, the siren song of the Disney Souvenir is strong once you enter those gates, my friend. Remember… there’s tempting merchandise at every turn! Lessen the temptation for “gimme”-itis by supplying your brood with Mickey-faced whoosits and whatsits before you even step foot on park property. Pass one or two out every other day (if they’re behaving and telling you what magnificent parents you are for taking them on this wonderful trip) and that hopefully will keep the Veruca Salts at bay. Another tip: grab some bubbles while you’re at the dollar store. They make a great stress reliever for anxious children and are a terrific time-passer while you’re waiting for the parade to start. And Perhaps Most Importantly… And maybe the most important tip: Don’t overplan your days. There’s so much to see, do and experience at Disney, but downtime is your FRIEND! All of those sights, smells, and spins on the rides can overstimulate even the hardiest among us, but especially those wee ones. Take a break in the middle of the day, maybe right after lunch, just to head back to your hotel and CHILL. Take a nap. Read a book. Take a swim. Pool Time Just give your brain a breather for a bit. Then, when you head back over to the Park for the evening, you’ll be relaxed, refreshed, and ready to watch some awesome nighttime shows! Your feet, your brain, and your family will be so thankful you made that break happen…so happy that they MIGHT even tell you what a magnificent parent you are . Parents, we’re pulling for you and your little ones to have a memorable — and perfectly magical! — Disney World vacation! Don’t Miss Out on Any Disney Fun! 9. Once again we’re immersing families in the splendor and charm of Norway this summer and next. As I’m sure you know, the Norwegian fjords served as the inspiration and backdrop for the animated hit “Frozen,” and it’s no wonder why. Here, you will discover breathtaking natural wonders such as magnificent mountain ranges, massive glaciers, steaming geysers and majestic fjords. The enchanting Scandinavian culture of the region comes to life through local attractions, stunning architecture, storybook villages and historic city centers, all of which you can explore with a dash of pixie dust on our Port Adventures. Here’s a sampling … Sunnmøre Village, Norway – A Celebration with Anna, Elsa & Kristoff – Only Disney guests are invited to revel in an exclusive Norwegian summer celebration at the Sunnmøre Open Air Museum where the festivities culminate in the grand arrival of the beloved sisters, Anna and Elsa, and their ice-loving companion, Kristoff. After being personally greeted by “Frozen” friends, and surrounded by the idyllic beauty of Norway, you’ll dance to local musicians and sample tasty Norwegian specialties, including svele, a traditional sweet pancake from the region. Viking Village Experience & Giske Church – Another Disney-exclusive adventure includes a quest to a Viking village on the island of Giske, where you’ll head back in history to meet the village chieftain and experience the Viking world. Adventurers find themselves in the middle of daily Viking life and mingle with members of the Norse families, experiencing first-hand the traditions, authentic food and games that come with being a Viking. You’ll also learn traditional Viking handiwork and put it to practice by crafting your own leather bags. Gjaera Mountain Farm Featuring Exclusive Youth Activity – From the port of Geiranger, the crowning jewel of the Norwegian fjords, comes yet another experience exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests – a visit to the Gjaera Mountain Farm where a local family provides an up-close look at daily life. Children join Disney Cruise Line youth counselors to create one-of-a-kind decorative pillows in the farm’s printing studio using handmade wooden stamps that have been passed down through the family’s many generations. Meanwhile, adults explore the farm and its microbrewery, sampling fresh brews. After building up an appetite, everyone reunites for a taste of traditional Norwegian foods produced at the farm including juices, breads, creams and cured meats. Herdalsetra Mountain Farm – Another journey in Geiranger brings you to the Herdalsetra Mountain Farm, where on the way to a nearby scenic valley you’ll enjoy a spectacular view of the Geirangerfjord and the Seven Sisters waterfall made famous in Norwegian folklore. Your family will tour the enchanting farm brimming with 30 farmhouses and more than 450 sprightly goats scampering around the property. You can also sample the farm’s fresh cheeses including Norway’s famous brown cheese – similar to sweet fudge. In just a few weeks, the Disney Magic will set sail for a transatlantic voyage to kick off our summer in Europe. If you’re joining us, remember, when the ship’s in port, venture ashore! When Pandora opens on May 27 in Disney’s Animal Kingdom guests will be immersed in the wondrous world of the Avatar film, including new dining and drinking establishments and two new attractions: Avatar Flight of Passage and the Na’vi River Journey! Today we have a preview of two desserts created for Satu’li Canteen! Satu’li Canteen Concept Art ©Disney When creating these desserts, Disney chefs took inspiration from the Na’vi of Pandora. The first dessert – Blueberry Cheesecake with Passion Fruit Curd – uses the Na’vi colors of blue and yellow and features passion fruit as a connection to the tropical environment of Pandora. Blueberry Cheesecake with Passion Fruit Curd ©Disney Another dessert, Chocolate Cake with a Crunchy Cookie, Banana Cream and Goji Berries, uses dark chocolate cake as a claimed nod to the healthy Na’vi (the assumption being that dark chocolate is healthy due to antioxidants). The chocolate cake is topped with banana cream, lemon drizzle, and Goji Berries hydrated with simple syrup. Banana and chocolate is always a good combination! Chocolate Cake with a Crunchy Cookie, Banana Cream and Goji Berries ©Disney Both desserts will be available at the counter service Satu’li Canteen when Pandora opens on May 27! 17. While Walt Disney Imagineers are putting the finishing touches on Pandora—The World of Avatar, the Walt Disney World Resort chefs are using their own storytelling magic to create two special sweet endings for Satu’li Canteen, the new land’s fast casual restaurant. “We watched ‘Avatar’ and noted that the Na’vi are in stellar shape – very lean, with beautiful skin and bright yellow eyes,” said Executive Pastry Chef Stefan Riemer. The Na’vi colors were the inspiration for the Blueberry Cheesecake with Passion Fruit Curd, a cream cheese and blueberry creation with passion fruit to connect to the film’s tropical environment. The cheesecake tastes as delicious as it looks, with a combination of acidity from the passion fruit with bold blueberry and creamy cheesecake. The Chocolate Cake with a Crunchy Cookie, Banana Cream and Goji Berries again takes its inspiration from the healthy Na’vi, as the chocolate bean would fit perfectly, says Riemer. “We used dark chocolate because it’s rich in antioxidants, then add a little crunch with a cookie wafer and the contrast of creamy mousse.” The cake is topped with banana cream, made with a few simple (but delicious) ingredients: cream, white chocolate and bananas, with a little drizzle of lemon. “The chocolate-banana is a great flavor combination,” says Riemer. “Then we added goji berry on top – it tastes a little like a raisin, and we hydrated it with simple syrup. The taste of the goji berry with the banana cream and chocolate is a lovely balance of flavors.” If these desserts seem fancy for quick service, it’s because Riemer’s philosophy is that desserts should always have complexity in flavor, taste, texture and color. “These desserts have flavors that our guests will recognize, but in smaller portions.” (He recommends that you savor the experience of each bite.) Both upscale desserts were taste tested with kids and came out winners. “We got a thumbs-up for both desserts!” says Riemer with a smile. View the full article

  21. Whether or not to travel with an infant to Walt Disney World Resort is a question many parents are asking themselves as they plan their summer vacation. They are asking friends, family and yes, they are asking members of the Disney Parks Moms Panel. As they are planning, they are asking such questions as … where can I change my baby in the parks? What are some of the best attractions for infants? Today we’ve highlighted a few of our favorite tips from the panel to help families enjoy their Disney vacation with even the tiniest Mouseketeers. Did you know there are Baby Care Centers located in all four theme parks? Leslie recently helped a mom identify where the Baby Care Centers are located, and listed the many helpful items you can find in these locations. Not only a wonderful place for a much needed break from the Florida sun, the Baby Care Centers are also the perfect spot to change or nurse a little one. Many parents are concerned as to whether there are attractions their little ones can enjoy. The answer is a resounding yes! There are most definitely attractions for even the youngest guests. Panelists, Jan and Mona Leigh, recently gave great advice to moms traveling with little ones. Jan helped identify attractions for a one-year old, while Mona Leigh gave wonderful options for a guest traveling with a 15 month old, who was also experiencing his first trip to Walt Disney World. Their tips truly help to remind families that the Disney magic can be enjoyed by children of all ages! All parents know one of the most important items to pack for a day at the park includes snacks. Todd shared some great insights about his “dad pack” and what his must haves were for his then one-year-old son. From a first aid kit to a change of clothes, this dad did not forget a thing. And lastly the stroller! As a parent you have many stroller options on a Disney vacation. You may bring your own stroller or rent one at any of the four theme parks. In a recent blog post, Lindsey P. did a fantastic job sharing her go to stroller tips. Parents of babies, should also take a moment to read her 8 Must Know Tips for taking a baby to Walt Disney World Resort. Her first hand experiences are an excellent guide for all parents planning a Disney vacation with an infant. To ask your own questions about planning your upcoming Disney vacation, be sure to visit DisneyParksMomsPanel.com for a personalized response from our knowledgeable panel. View the full article
