Happy Global Running Day! Running has been a big part of our history at Walt Disney World Resort for more than 25 years with runDisney hosting a variety of running events that feature races for people of all ages and abilities. Between Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Paris and multiple virtual events, magic can be found along every mile with unique character and entertainment experiences along the race courses. In celebration of Global Running Day, we recently had an opportunity to chat with Olympian Paula Radcliffe, a British long-distance runner, current women’s marathon world record holder and the runDisney Ambassador for this year’s Disneyland Paris Magic Run Weekend. Check out some of her insights on running, which we hope will inspire you to grab your sneakers and start running toward a happier and healthier lifestyle. What are the greatest benefits of running? The fun, the health benefits (both mental and physical), the awareness of your body, the friends you make and the camaraderie of the running community. The fact that you can do it wherever you are and that it’s a great way to meet people and discover new places. What makes runDisney races special or unique? I think it’s the way in which they [Disney] combine the unique magic of Disney with the joy of running. Families can come and achieve their running targets while enjoying a wonderful weekend as a family where everyone gets something out of it and goes home happy after a magical weekend. How fun was it to run through Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Paris? It is really fun and to do so at night or early morning when it’s all lit up makes it even more special. It is an experience that you can only do when you take part in the Disney races and that makes it more special and unique. What is your favorite runDisney race and why? I think for me it’s the 5km in Paris because I can share it with my children. I have had so much fun and pleasure running, so to be able to see them start to do the same and to share their joy is very special indeed. Do you have any recommendations for anyone running their first runDisney race? Sign up with family or friends and build up the training gradually so that you can get the best fun experience. Try and stay in or close to the park to make the race easier and make a whole celebratory weekend out of it to get the most from the experience. What advice do you have for people who want to start running but just can’t seem to get started? Pick a small fun race like a Disney 5k. Sign up with some friends and train together in preparation. Then make a great weekend of it and be sure to treat yourself afterwards when you achieve your goal. Are you inspired? I know we are! In case you were wondering, we are still making our way through the extensive, ever-evolving Pixar Fest food, and we’re still loving ever minute of it. Today we’re at Refreshment Corner — often referred to as Coke Corner (which we like because alliteration) — and we’re digging into a hot dog that’s got so much good stuff on it that we already want another. Refreshment Corner — a/k/a Coke Corner Refreshment Corner is located on Main Street, U.S.A., making it a super convenient place to pick up a quick bite. The focus here is on quick eats in hot dog form, including a Pastrami Dog and a Chili Cheese Dog. But in our quest to conquer the creative eats of Pixar Fest (which continues through September 3!), we went straight for the Western Dog! Western Dog The Western Dog — inspired by Toy Story‘s Woody, Jessie, and Woody’s Round Up friends — is loaded with awesomeness. The All-Beef Hot Dog is topped with BBQ Sauce, Jack Cheese, Bacon, Onion Straws, and Chives. This is all packed into an Artisan Bun. Of course, “packed” is the operative word here because the bun can barely contain all that good stuff! Western Dog The bun is good, though! It’s soft and a decent size, it’s just… well… the toppings here are outrageous (as is often the case with specialty hot dogs at the Disney Parks!). Check out that hot dog! Western Dog The Onion Straws are dark and crunchy — the perfect texture element for the dog. The BBQ Sauce is generously drizzled, with a little bit managing to get into every bite. And while the Chives might seem like a throw away, they actually add a nice element of freshness to the otherwise ultra savory, slightly heavy dog. Western Dog And in case you’re wondering what’s up with the bacon, it’s two full sized strips of well-cooked bacon — no piddly bacon bits tossed haphazardly on top. Nope — the Western Dog takes its bacon surrrrriously. Western Dog Cross-Section So, look: we want the Jack Cheese to be melty and stringy, and it’s not. But the Western Dog still totally rocks. It comes with a bag of Lays Potato Chips for $9.49 — and it’s definitely big enough (and filling enough) to share. So if you’re snacking your way through Pixar Fest, don’t skip this dog! On May 27, 2018, Pandora — the World of AVATAR celebrated its first birthday! And while the Animal Kingdom’s newest land didn’t have a Pandoran smash cake, we did stop in to retry some of the eats that’ve fueled many a journey down the Na’vi River and on the back of a banshee for Flight of Passage! Pandora — The World of AVATAR Pandora features two distinct eateries: quick service winner Satu’li Canteen, where customizable bowls have been bowling over diners since it opened! — and snack stand Pongu Pongu, which means Party Party and is basically just that in cups and wrappers! :p Pongu Pongu Pongu Pongu is conveniently located near the exit of Flight of Passage, which is really just ’round the corner from the entrance to Flight of Passage, so whether you’re coming or going, Pongu Pongu reigns for your FoP snacking. Pongu Pongu We’ve enjoyed the limited menu here since day one, but we wondered how the newly minted one-year-old was holding up. Also we wanted an excuse to eat and drink these items again, so here we are. We started with the Pongu Lumpia, a simple and delicious hand-held snack. This nondescript spring roll is filled with Pineapples and Cream Cheese, fried, and sprinkled with sugar. Pongu Lumpia The Pongu Lumpia is just as good as ever! The wonton wrapper is fried to light golden brown, and the sweet filling is indulgent without being too heavy. Incidentally, lumpia is a popular snack in Indonesia and the Philippines, where they’re usually served savory. But this sweet version? Awesome! Pongu Lumpia By far the most popular beverage at Pongu Pongu is a colorful concoction called the Night Blossom. This non-alcoholic drink is a mix of Limeade with apple and desert pear flavors topped off with every party drink’s favorite boba balls — these in passion fruit flavor! It’s fun to look at, refreshing to drink, and taaaaaasty! Night Blossom For those who prefer a little liquid courage when braving the Pandoran wilderness, the Mo’ara Margarita is Sauza Conmemorativo Anejo Tequila with strawberry and blood orange flavors, topped with strawberry boba balls. The combination of strawberry and blood orange is unique (although we’d like the blood orange to be more prominent), it’s a great, cooling drink for a Pandoran summer. One of my favorite resorts at Walt Disney World Resort is Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. It has an amazing pool and a brand new quick and casual restaurant with yummy Caribbean-inspired foods. Spyglass Grill offers popular American foods infused with Caribbean flavors. And every time we stay at the resort, we start our day there with a delicioso breakfast! Our favorite item is the Cream Cheese and Guava-stuffed French Toast and today we are sharing the recipe with you! It is yummy, sweet and tangy all at the same time, and it brings flavors from home (the Caribbean that is!) that we love! Serves 4 CREAM CHEESE ICING 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened 1/4 cup powdered sugar 2 tablespoons heavy cream CREAM CHEESE FILLING 1 (8 ounces) package cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup powdered sugar GUAVA SAUCE 1 cup guava paste, cut into 1/2-inch cubes 3/4 cup water EGG CUSTARD 1 cup whole milk 1 cup heavy cream 3 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla paste FRENCH TOAST 1 tablespoon butter 8 slices, brioche, cut into 3/4-inch thick slices 8 slices guava paste, cut into 1/4-inch thick strips 1 pint strawberries, sliced FOR CREAM CHEESE ICING: Whip cream cheese in a bowl of electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Add powdered sugar and whip until fluffy. Add heavy cream and beat until mixed. Set aside. FOR CREAM CHEESE FILLING: Place cream cheese in bowl of electric mixer fitted with paddle attachment. Whip until smooth. Add powdered sugar and mix until fluffy. Set aside. FOR GUAVA SAUCE: Combine guava paste and water in small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes, until thick syrup forms. Keep warm until ready to serve. FOR EGG CUSTARD: Combine milk, cream, eggs, and vanilla paste in medium bowl. Whisk until smooth. Set aside. FOR FRENCH TOAST: Heat butter in large skillet over medium heat, until butter is melted. Dip 2 slices of brioche in egg custard, making sure to coat both sides of bread. Remove from custard and place on hot skillet. Cook for 2 minutes, until golden brown. Turn brioche over. Place 1/4 of the cream cheese filling on one piece of bread and 2 slices of guava paste on the other. Cook for one minute. Reduce heat to low and press guava paste and cream cheese filling sides together. Cook for 1-2 minutes, until fillings begin to melt. Place on a plate and top with guava sauce, cream cheese icing, and strawberries. Repeat with remaining slices of brioche. View the full article

Buckle up river rafters! Grizzly River Run at Disney California Adventure park is a one-stop destination for thrill-seeking rafters—and you’re invited to take a closer look as we ride up, down and through Grizzly Peak. This month, we are exploring the thrilling whitewater raft adventure which takes guests down a roaring California river reminiscent of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This mountain also conceals several story elements and fun references which may “peak” your interest! According to legend, long ago a coyote met a grizzly bear on top of the mountain. Seeing that the grizzly was such a powerful creature, the coyote asked him to watch over and protect the land. Even as people came upon the mountain and tried to chase the grizzly bear down, the bear held his ground. When the coyote saw that the bear was alone against the surrounding people, he turned the grizzly into stone so he could never be driven away. To this day, people claim they can hear the bear’s spirit in the wind when traveling through the caverns of Grizzly Peak. As you walk through the land of Grizzly Peak, you may notice an assortment of items, including mining equipment. During California’s Gold Rush days, the whitewater rapids became home to the Eureka Gold & Timber Mining Company, when prospectors were drawn to the hope of striking it rich in the Sierras. As time went on and gold began to run dry, people began to realize that the beauty of Grizzly Peak was more precious than gold. The rapids we see today are a result of the logging and natural waterways that was important to the business boom brought on by “Gold Fever.” With a twist on this idea, adventure seekers can brace themselves and raft along the rushing waters of the mountain, almost like bobbing, twirling logs, spinning out of control. Throughout Grizzly Peak, guests are invited take a break from technology, open their minds to conservation, and pledge to help preserve the surrounding land. Wilderness areas and parks allow people to slow down and to appreciate and experience on a person‐to‐person, human scale. Not all heroes wear capes – some wear Disney VoluntEARS shirts! And in honor of the program’s 35th Anniversary, thousands of Cast Members worldwide are becoming heroes in their local communities by participating in Disney-sponsored VoluntEARS projects during the first-ever Global Week of Service. The Disney VoluntEARS program started at Disneyland Resort in 1983, when a group of Cast Members formed a team based on Disney’s long legacy of volunteer service. Since then, Disney VoluntEARS have provided more than 10 million hours of volunteer service worldwide in hospitals, at beach cleanups on community playground builds and more. Last year alone, Disney VoluntEARS logged more than 486,000 hours of service and Disney donated more than $348 million in cash, in-kind support and product donations to various charities around the world. And on March 7, 2018, Disney VoluntEARS joined forces with the Disney Team of Heroes to commit $100 million to children’s hospitals. The Global Week of Service gives Cast Members the chance to shine this week by using their unique skills to change the world. From Imagineers using their mechanical engineering know-how to build bikes for foster care children; to Disneyland Resort Cast Members sorting and distributing 40,000 books for Orange County teachers and students; to the Glendale Creative Campus bagging hundreds of lunches for hungry and homeless around Los Angeles; to Disneyland Paris Cast packing 100,000 meals for families in need across Europe; the activities are as diverse and inspirational as our Cast Members. On Saturday, guests at Magic Kingdom Park celebrated the 65th Anniversary Edition release of Disney’s “Peter Pan” and were treated to a mini parade down Main Street, U.S.A. Peter Pan and Wendy were joined by 50 Disney Bounding guests in outfits inspired by their favorite characters from the timeless classic. Take a look. When the summer temperatures begin to rise, many Guests make sure to add a water park day to their itinerary at Walt Disney World Resort. The Disney Parks Moms Panelists also love the water parks and have some great must-do tips for your next vacation day at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park or Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park. Kari suggests arriving at the water park of your choice as soon as it opens. “Have a plan where you want to go. Enjoy the attractions and then grab lunch. The afternoon is perfect for Castaway Creek or Cross Country Creek. This is the great way to maximize your time at the water parks.” If your family is traveling with a less than adventurous little one, Lynne highly recommends visiting Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. In her opinion, there is a great balance of water-based attractions for non-thrill seekers at this park. She also loves that her little one can enjoy the relaxation of the “lazy river,” Castaway Creek. If you ask Jan, Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is the place to be with tweens and teens. “Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is an extremely fun-filled way to spend a day! There are so many water slides, body slides, activities, delicious meals, and the list goes on! I highly recommend it. My family never misses a visit there on our Walt Disney World Resort trips.” A fan of both water parks, Jane says she and her family always make a point to visit Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach. Her top tips are to arrive early, find a shady spot and to wear beach shoes to protect toes from the sometimes hot and sun-soaked walkways. And speaking of shade, Lindsey P. reminds guests they can always rent an umbrella if the sun is a bit too much for them. Need more than an umbrella? Beachcomber Shacks and Polar Patios are always an option if available on your planned day, they are first-come-first-served at each respective water park. Lindsey also adds, “don’t forget about the newest attraction at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, Miss Adventure Falls! Captain Mary Oceaneer will send your party on an ocean raft ride, whizzing past a talking parrot. It’s the longest water park ride in Disney history!” And from Kari and Lynne, their absolute number one tip is to not leave Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park without eating as many mini donuts as possible! When Disneyland Resort introduced a brand new Pixar Fest Afternoon Tea a couple of weeks ago, we were chomping at the bit to learn more — and to get in on that tea and sandwiches action! The Pixar Fest Afternoon Tea is a part of the on-going (and delicious!) Pixar Fest, so guests can reserve tea through September 3, when the festival ends. We were there on DAY 1 to enjoy it, so let’s head over to Steakhouse 55 and enjoy afternoon tea! Steakhouse 55 Located Inside the Disneyland Hotel The cost of the Pixar Fest Afternoon Tea is $52-$65 per adult and $35 per child, and its location at Steakhouse 55 raised our expectations. We’d already had a great experience at Steakhouse 55 for regular old afternoon tea. Imagine what would happen when they Pixar-fied it! We already love Steakhouse 55’s classic decor, and we were surprised to see the Pixar touches. Turns out, it handled the fun no problem! Pixar Fest Afternoon Tea Centerpiece The centerpiece on each table is a classy representation of Pixar films, including this stylistic Up!-inspired piece. Pixar Fest Afternoon Tea Centerpiece and Set-Up We love the use of these playful flowers in place of balloons. Although how fun would teeny, tiny balloons be? Pixar Fest Afternoon Tea Centerpiece The Cars-inspired centerpiece features some succulents and a Cruz Ramirez detail. And tires, of course! Pixar Fest Afternoon Tea Centerpiece Nemo/Dory centerpieces feature sea-worthy flowers and some fun fish. Pixar Fest Afternoon Tea Centerpiece Beyond those centerpieces, though, the restaurant maintains its elegant atmosphere. And while we might be tempted to hope for a stronger Pixar vibe, the afternoon tea concept really does retain its inherent classiness. And what’s afternoon tea without tea? There are several hot tea options, each described in detail and annotated for color and caffeine content. Also note that guests can get their tea hot or iced. Pixar Fest Afternoon Fest Menu We opted to order both an adult tea party and a kids’ tea party so we could try a bit of everything, and we also went with hot and iced tea. The serving size on the teas is super generous. Hot and Iced Teas Tea comes with traditional accompaniments: milk, honey, and lemons. Tea Accompaniments We went with the Classic Tea Party and the Kids’ Tea Party. Note that the sweet treats are the same for either party, while the savory options vary between the two. (There’s also a Premium Tea Party that includes Sparkling Wine, Salad, and a Farewell Surprise.) Pixar Fest Afternoon Fest Menu All tea parties come with Seasonal Fruit Preserves (raspberry on our visit), Devonshire Cream, and Lemon Curd. These were all fantastic and went well with some of the food items. Preserves, Lemon Curd, and Devonshire Cream Eats are served on a three-tiered tea stand. Our adult and kid bites were all mingled on the plates. Tea Sandwich Stand with Eats! The plate of savory bites is colorful and features good variety in style and content. (We’ll get to that crazy blue egg in a bit…) Savory Bites The sweet treats? So much fun on one plate! Sweet Bites Scones are a traditional part of any tea party, so we were excited to try these. The kids’ party comes with the Chocolate Chip Scone, while the adults get a Traditional Scone. These were some good scones, with tons of chocolate chips for the kids and great, crunchy sugary bits on top. Scones The colorful scone that comes with the kids’ party is meant to represent Inside Out, with its colorful memory balls. Interior of the Confetti Scone The menu for both the adults and the kids notes a raspberry macaron, but on our visit, we received this Up!-Inspired Eclair instead. Up! Inspired Eclair Similar to the Pixar Fest Peanut Butter and Jelly Eclair that we tried at Jolly Holiday, this one also has a bit of grape jam along side a more custard-y vanilla filling. It was about a half-sized eclair (perfectly tea party sized) and super tasty. Inside the Eclair The Blackberry Marmalade Cupcake is topped to mimic Sully’s Monsters, Inc., fur! So fun! Blackberry Marmalade Cupcake The light vanilla cupcake is filled with blackberry marmalade, and it’s a great flavor combination with the buttercream. Interior of the Cupcake And while some might say that chocolate-dipped strawberries are a little cliche, these are anything but. Check out the details! We love the Woody-inspired plaid and the abundant sugar balloons of the Up! Strawberry. Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries I mean, seriously: check out that tiny house! Up! Inspired Dipped Strawberry Also on the sweets tray: this imaginative bite. It’s “Cheese”Cake — cheesecake designed to look like cheese. Of course, culinary extraordinaire Remy is bringing this to the table. “Cheese”cake See? Turn it around, and you’ve got a wedge of “cheese”! This indulgent bite is so good you’ll definitely wish you had another. Cheesecake Interior The savory eats, as we mentioned, vary between the adult and kid tea party. First we’ll take a gander at the adult offerings. This Zesty Carrot Cream Cheese is bright and flavorful. Topped with a few onion straws, it’s also got an interesting texture going on. Zesty Carrot Cream Cheese Roasted Vegetables are served on a small circle of toast and include thinly chopped basil. For something so simple, this was awesome! Roasted Vegetables The Sweet Ginger Avocado Toast is a lovely shade of green with contrasting red radish bits. This is light and fresh and perfect for a party with so many other edible components. Sweet Ginger Avocado Toast Now the bright blue Deviled Egg… tastes terrific. If you can get past that color, of course! Topped with caviar, this is an upscale deviled egg done in a fun way. Cage Free Deviled Egg Kid party offerings start with the Pepperoni and Cheese Sandwich. The set-up is supposed to remind us of Tow-Mater’s teeth! Pepperoni and Cheese Sandwich Yeah, we thoroughly enjoyed this. :p Pepperoni and Cheese Interior The Watermelon and Cucumber salad also features lots of sweet corn, and while it might be a little too sophisticated for some kid palates, we enjoyed it! Watermelon and Cucumber The last of the kids’ party offerings is a Peanut Butter and Jelly Boot Sandwich meant to celebrate Woody’s footwear of choice! PB & J Boot Sandwich You guys, the Pixar Fest Afternoon Tea is so. much. fun. And delicious. But really, it’s the combination of whimsy and thoughtful flavors that wins the day.
