  1. Storybook Treats at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is the place to go for ice cream in Fantasyland. Located adjacent to Friar’s Nook — where you can currently find Loaded Tots! — Storybook Treats serves up hot fudge sundaes, strawberry sundaes, and floats to guests looking for cool snack. Storybook Treats We wanted to try the Cookie Sundae because #cookies and #icecream. AND because we used to LOVE this one when it was served back in the day (I’d hack it and get caramel and hot fudge sauce on it, too!). The new basic Cookie Sundae here is… not really a sundae in its simplest form; it doesn’t come with hot fudge by default, which is a little odd. But the cast member who served ours asked if we wanted hot fudge, so definitely speak up if it’s a must for you. Storybook Treats Cookie Sundae The Cookie Sundae is a swirl of vanilla soft serve (request chocolate or chocolate/vanilla twist if you prefer!) with a chocolate chip cookie broken into two pieces, and some whipped cream. If you happen to stop at Storybook Treats during a holiday season (Halloween, Christmas, or Independence Day for sure), you will also receive seasonal sprinkles. Storybook Treats Cookie Sundae The Cookie Sundae is classic — who doesn’t love chocolate chip cookies and ice cream? But without the hot fudge, it’s kind of one-note. And at $5.49 or a DDP snack credit, it’s not a super value. (Add the hot fudge and it’s a little better, value-wise.) Storybook Treats’ Cookie Sundae In fact, if you’re looking to maximize your snack credits, we recommend getting an Ice Cream Sandwich elsewhere. Ice cream nestled between two homemade cookies With the Sandwich at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor or Sleepy Hollow, you get two of the cookies and two huge scoops of ice cream. But if you prefer soft serve ice cream, Storybook Treats is the place for you. The Storybook Treats cookies are the same seemingly house-made ones you find in Ice Cream Sandwich locations. Cookie at Storybook Treats Whether you opt for this Cookie Sundae or an Ice Cream Sandwich, you can’t go wrong with the combination. We love these chocolate chip cookies, with their rich butteriness and sweet chocolate chips. It’s a classic that never goes out of style! Don’t Miss Out on ALL the Magic Kingdom Snacks! 2. The annual “March Magic” fan vote returns this month with 16 teams inspired by attraction, shows and icons found at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. We need your help in deciding which team will be crowned the title of “Ultimate Disney Attraction.” Online voting is taking place now through April 4, 2018 via the official Walt Disney World Facebook page. Disney Creative Group artists created all new artwork for this year’s tournament. Returning tournament champions, the Tomorrowland Movers from Walt Disney World Resort, will defend the title against 15 new teams including the Main Street, U.S.A. Corndogs, Dr. Marsh’s Iguanodons, and Groot’s Guardians. To get started, download the printable bracket above to keep track of your choices. Be sure to read the terms of use about using the sheet before you download it. The final matchup between the top two attractions will take place on April 4. 3. Today, we’re celebrating the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival with a special episode of our ongoing series of Disney-inspired bento box tutorials. Disney Parks Blog reader and fan Mike Kravanis is at the park creating magic – the topiary forms of Lady and Tramp from the Disney classic movie. To create a Lady and the Tramp bento box, rice is shaped with a cookie cutter for each character’s face. Then, microgreens are placed over the rice to add a topiary look. Black olives are used for noses and white American cheese to make the eyes of the pasta-sharing pups. Watch the video to see how Mike adds pasta and a plate to the bento box – and then give it a try! The Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival runs now through May 28. For more information, check out epcotinspring.com. View the full article
  4. We just concluded the 11th year of Disney Dreamers Academy eight days ago and the stories of some of these amazing teens are still reverberating around Walt Disney World Resort. From the 100 high school students selected to participate in the prestigious, four-day mentoring program about dreaming big, there was a student who battled through cancer and now dreams of becoming an oncologist. And there was another student who aspires to study aerospace engineering and architecture so she can one day build livable habitats in outer space. Another student whose story has stayed with us is Casey Carter, a 17-year-old junior from Columbia, South Carolina who was near death after being born three months premature yet has overcome significant medical challenges and is now conducting award-winning research that may one day revolutionize football helmet safety. Check out this video of her story and how Disney Dreamers Academy is helping propel her toward her dreams. 6. It’s challenge time, Disney food friends! And this time it’s all about the Main Mouse: Mickey! You already know that we love pretty much all things Mickey-shaped, so what better excuse to munch on those iconic ears than with a Mickey-Shaped Food Challenge?! Thanks to our DFB youtube channel viewer who suggested this fun challenge! Disney Food Challenge: Mickey-Shaped Eats Check out 19 of our favorites below — and see if you can get ‘em all!!! 1. Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar First up is the Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar: vanilla ice cream coated a thick chocolate (flavored) shell. That chocolate leans toward the dark side, and it’s a terrific combination with the sweet ice cream. And then, of course, there are the ears. There’s no better place to start, folks! Nestle Mickey Ice Cream Bar Find the Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar at any ice cream novelty cart in the parks, or in your Resort’s food court. 2. Mickey Mouse House-Made Pecan Praline This surprising treat can be found at Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory at Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter, and it’s totally worth the visit to the resort! It’s a salty/sweet combo packed with pecans, and it’s SO good. House-made Pecan Praline 3. Mickey Pretzel This next Mickey-shaped food is about as classic as it gets: the Mickey Pretzel. You can find this all over the parks, and it typically comes with a little tub of cheese for dipping. (Scrounge up some chocolate from a churro stand, and you’ve got yourself a salty/sweet food hack!) Cheese and Chocolate Dips! 4. Mickey Solid Chocolates There is more to these deceptively simple treats than meets the eye! The solid Mickey-shaped chocolates come in milk and dark — and each is paired with an unusual counterpart. The milk chocolate is flecked with banana chips, while the dark gets a lift from chili pepper flakes! How’s that for a grown-up chocolate? Solid Chocolate Mickeys from Zuri’s Sweets Shop 5. Mickey (Colossal) Cinnamon Roll This family-sized treat makes a great breakfast or treat that’s totally share-able. You can find these at Creature Comforts in Animal Kingdom and in the Main Street Bakery at Magic Kingdom (the Starbucks locations in these parks). And if you visit during the later part of the year, you might catch one with a chocolate spider web for Halloween or Christmas vibe (with red and green icing)! Colossal Mickey Cinnamon Roll 6. Mickey Cake Pops Mickey Cake Pops can be found all over the parks (and in confectionery cases at BoardWalk Inn and the Contemporary Resort). They’re classic and awesome — and they often come in a variety of colors or seasonal decorative accents. We pretty much never leave Walt Disney World without consuming at least one of these charming pops. Mickey Cake Pop! 7. Mickey Waffles You knew we had to include these iconic treats — and Mickey waffles aren’t just for breakfast, my friends! Of course, you can enjoy them on breakfast buffets and menus all over the parks, but you’ll find a giant-sized Mickey Waffle at Sleepy Hollow, where you can get one covered in strawberries and whipped cream any time of day, and at Contempo Cafe, where it’s covered in bananas foster sauce! And for a totally unique way to eat a Mickey Waffle, head to the End Zone Food Court at All-Star Sports where this Mickey-shaped treat is part of a Gelato Sundae! Mickey Gelato Sundae 8. Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich Hack For a Mickey-shaped food hack, head to Main Street Confectionery and pick up two large Mickey Ear Cookies. Then stop at Main Street Plaza Ice Cream Parlor for a scoop of your favorite ice cream and a tub of your favorite sauce. Find a spot to chill while you assemble your Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich! Mickey Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich 9. Mickey Ganache This fabulous treat is a Mickey-shaped tart shell filled with chocolate ganache and (in some cases) topped with Mickey’s face! We know: we had you at ganache. You’ll find this tasty treat at some of the resorts, including Landscape of Flavors at Art of Animation, Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory at French Quarter, and the BoardWalk Bakery! Mickey Ganache Tart 10. Mickey Mousse at Amorette’s Patisserie The Mickey Mousse at Amorette’s Patisserie is a fantastically upscale Mickey-shaped food sure to satisfy and impress! This isn’t just Mickey-shaped; it’s Mickey-crafted! Between the ears, the tail, and the sweet yellow buttons, the Mickey Mousse has all the makings of a new classic! Mickey Mousse 11. Limoncello Mule at Via Napoli To drink your Mickey treat, make an Advance Dining Reservation at Via Napoli in Epcot’s Italy pavilion! Here you can order a Limoncello Mule that’s had a little Mickey makeover with lemon and lime slices! Limoncello Mule 12. Mickey Scone Found in confectionery cases around Walt Disney World property, the Mickey Scone comes in two delightful flavors: Blueberry and Birthday Cake. That second one surprised us with its rich texture and fun, colorful confetti! Mickey Birthday Cake Scone at Main Street Confectionery 13. Mickey Cupcakes There is no shortage of Mickey Cupcakes in Walt Disney World, so this part of the challenge should be easy to fulfill! You can find Mickey Cupcakes at Main Street Bakery (often with pink vanilla frosting or chocolate frosting). For an Oreo Mickey Cupcake, head to BoardWalk Bakery, Fountain View in Epcot’s Future World, or several of the resort food courts! Mickey Oreo Cupcake 14. Mickey Shortbread Cookie This classic cookie is slightly almond-y and wholly adorable! Mickey Shortbread Cookies can be found at confectionery locations just about everywhere, and while they are super simple, they’re also simply great! We love the different colors for seasonal versions! Mickey Shortbread Cookie 15. Mickey Gingerbread Cookie You can find the Mickey Gingerbread Cookie in confectionery cases during the holidays, of course — but he often appears throughout the year in many confectionery cases! So even though he might be a little harder to find, just keep your eyes peeled… and grab him when you can! Gingerbread Mickey Cookie 16. Mickey Kids’ Ice Cream Cone For the kiddos (and the kids at heart!), stop into Main Street Plaza Ice Cream Parlor for a Mickey Kids’ Ice Cream Cone! This small ice cream cone features two Mickey ears. If you prefer a larger cone and still want the Mickey treatment, just ask! Mickey Mouse Kid’s Cone 17. Mickey Rice Krispie Treats This one is a no-brainer! Mickey Rice Krispie Treats come in a variety of designs for the current season or latest Disney flick, or just for fun! Find yours in a confectionery case just about anywhere! And they even come on sticks sometimes for bonus points . Ready to go? 18. Mickey Red Shorts Caramel Apple For a classic Disney World treat, pick up a Mickey Red Shorts Caramel Apple at one of the confectionery spots around the World! Ask them to cut it for you so you can eat it more easily (or share it, if you’re so inclined!). Mickey Candy Apple Mickey also dons his holiday best throughout the year, so you might find him in a more seasonal outfit, too! St. Patrick’s Day Mickey Caramel Apples 19. Mickey Brownie The Chocolate-Covered Mickey Brownie is a dense brownie that packs enough chocolate punch to satisfy even the biggest of sweet tooths! Mickey Mouse Brownie Find it at a few Resort food courts, including Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory at Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter! Ok, now… I know that’s a LOT to take in. 13. So…a poutine cloud apparently burst over Orlando and now you can get varieties of this relatively obscure French Canadian pub grub delicacy pretty much everywhere in Disney World. There’s even a dining spot completely dedicated to poutine. The dish traditionally consists of French fries covered in cheese curds and brown gravy, and Canadians will cheerfully tell you that NONE of the dishes below qualify. Yet they’re called Poutine on the menu, and since we love french fries with stuff piled on top of them, we’re happy to tally them up for you! Oh, and here’s some real Canadian poutine for reference. Here’s some real Canadian poutine for reference… So here’s the Disney World Poutine Crawl! Cheddar Cheese Poutine — Refreshment Port, Epcot Cheddar Cheese Poutine is the most recent addition to the poutine World and can be found at the Refreshment Port in Epcot. Refreshment Port This version of poutine is covered in Le Cellier’s Cheddar Cheese Soup, which is indulgent and packed with bacon (recipe here!). And now guests can grab a plate of Cheddar Cheese Poutine (or a cup of the soup by itself) without a coveted ADR! Cheddar Cheese Poutine also has the traditional cheese curds and some golden French fries. Oui, please! Cheddar Cheese Poutine Kobe Beef Brisket Poutine — Nomad Lounge, Animal Kingdom Nomad Lounge has become pretty well known for its adventurous drinks and eats, so we were stoked to discover Kobe Beef Brisket Poutine on the Lounge’s small plates menu! Nomad Lounge This poutine is super classy, y’all. The bed of thick-cut fries is covered in Kobe-style beef brisket, house-made mozzarella, and savory pan sauce. Plus there’s extra cheese sauce on the bottom of the bowl! This poutine is a must! Pan Sauce on the Poutine (where it belongs!) Classic, French, Italian, Latin, and Seasonal Poutine — The Daily Poutine, Disney Springs You know a snack has made it to the upper echelons when it has a spot named after it — and thus we have The Daily Poutine! The best part about the menu at The Daily Poutine is that there are always several varieties to try. The Daily Poutine Classic Poutine features the fries, curds, and brown gravy of poutine’s birth. (This is the closest to authentic Canadian poutine currently found anywhere in Disney World.) Classic Poutine Latin Poutine has fried yucca, black beans, pulled pork, and queso fresco. Latin Poutine French Poutine is super fancy, with mushroom cream sauce and Gruyere cheese! Ooh, la la! French Poutine The last everyday poutine option at The Daily Poutine is Italian: mozzarella cheese and Bolognese sauce! Italian Poutine Annnnnnd The Daily Poutine also features specialty versions that change from time to time! Cheeseburger Poutine was totally delicious, featuring fried cheese curds, and pickles!! Cheeseburger Poutine And the Holiday Turkey Poutine was Thanksgiving in a handy bowl! Holiday Turkey Poutine And lest breakfast feel left out, we’ve also seen All Day Breakfast Poutine with tater tots! Sausage gravy and a sunny side up egg? Worth getting up for! All-Day Breakfast Poutine The Daily Poutine is the mecca of Disney World poutine. Secret Menu Poutine — Disney’s All Star Movies Resort Who doesn’t like a side of intrigue with their French fry masterpieces? You’ll find the Secret Menu Poutine at World Premier Food Court at All-Star Movies! You’ll view the secret menu on this little piece of nostalgia: Secret Menu Viewer at World Premier Food Court The Secret Menu Poutine is a huge portion of fries under cheese curds and dark brown gravy. So this is classic poutine served in the funnest way possible! Secret Menu Poutine There’s s whole process for asking for the secret menu at All Star Movies, so you’ll definitely want to check out the DFB Guide’s YouTube video sharing this secret menu — it’s totally awesome. Sock Hop Fries — Beaches and Cream Soda Shop, Disney’s Beach Club Resort Beaches and Cream Soda Shop is one of our favorite spots to grab a burger and some ice cream (you’ll find at Beach Club on the walkway near Stormalong Bay!), and it also happens to be home to Sock Hop Fries. Beaches and Cream Entrance Now we admit, Sock Hop Fries (also called Gravy Fries!) aren’t technically poutine, but we’ve already seen that Disney takes plenty of leeway when creating these plates of French fry goodness. So we’ll give Sock Hop Fries a pass because they have all the flavors of classic poutine: brown gravy and white cheddar shredded cheese (instead of curds). They’re so messy and delicious. We love them. Gravy Fries Carolina Mess — House of Blues, Disney Springs In Disney Springs’ West Side, guests can munch on Carolina Mess at the House of Blues. House of Blues Carolina Mess is a plate of fries covered in pulled pork, jalapenos, cheese, and brown gravy. Quite the combo. It’s a southern take on the Canadian classic! Montreal Poutine and Signature Poutine — Le Cellier Steakhouse, Epcot You can’t talk about poutine without talking about Le Cellier, the signature table service residing in the Canada Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase. This place represents the birthplace of poutine — and Le Cellier has some tasty options on its menu. Le Cellier Montreal Poutine is fresh-cut French fries, Montreal-smoked brisket, French onion gravy, Gruyère cheese, pickled vegetable slaw, and mustard-beer sauce. Yes,that’s a lot of good stuff in one pan. But it’s just a stellar combination of flavors. Montreal Poutine The Signature Poutine is French fries, Canadian cheddar, truffles, red wine reduction. There’s not technically a brown sauce. Or cheese curds. But with ingredients like truffles and red wine reduction, this is about as fancy a poutine as you can find. And it truly IS delicious. Signature Poutine — Up Close Canadian Poutine — Paradiso 37, Disney Springs Paradiso 37 is our last stop on this tour of Walt Disney World poutine, and this version pretty crazy. Paradiso 37 Outside View FYI — there are much better restaurants than Paradiso 37 when it comes to entrees and full meals, but they do a great job with appetizers and drinks. And this particular dish caught us totally off guard. The Canadian Poutine is 100% not at all Canadian, and is basically more of a “nacho fries with gravy” than anything else. But that’s cool, cause it’s SO GOOD. Topping the fries are cheese sauce, roasted garlic gravy, braised beef, and cherry peppers. It’s a terrific combination of flavors in the spirit of poutine — and the briny peppers add a little something unique. Plus it’s heavy and built for two, so this one is party ready. Poutine So…yeah. Basically none of these are authentic Canadian poutine. But in our world, good food is good food! What are you waiting for? Get your “poutine” on! Want MORE Disney World Loaded Fries? 15. When Pirates of the Caribbean reopens at Magic Kingdom Park March 19, guests will be introduced to the new version of the attraction’s auction scene we first announced last summer. Just as Walt Disney embraced and encouraged Disney Parks to “keep moving forward” since the opening of Disneyland Park in 1955, Walt Disney Imagineering has introduced many new characters at Pirates of the Caribbean attraction over the years. The pirate auctioneer now oversees a sale of the townspeople’s most prized possessions and goods. In this scene, the familiar redhead figure has switched sides to become a pirate named Redd, who’s just pillaged the town’s rum supply and has something to say about it. Check out a sneak peek at what this new scene will look like in the photo above. As we previously shared, the auction scene in the attraction at Disneyland Paris received a similar revision last year. Disneyland park will also receive similar updates to its Pirates of the Caribbean attraction later this spring, with work beginning April 23. View the full article
  16. In our Disney Doodles series, our Disney artists take turns imaging what different Disney characters would do or see first if they had the chance to visit the Walt Disney World Resort. Today, artist Ashley Taylor imagines what Phil and Hercules would do if they had the chance to visit the resort. According to her, the duo would seek out the most magical place to train while on vacation – the ESPN Wide World of Sports. “Phil is always helping Hercules train! So it’s easy to imagine him using his handy sundial to time Hercules at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports.” View the full article
  17. Spyglass Grill is now officially open at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort! This new walk-up quick service location offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, and featured on the menu are popular American foods infused with classic Caribbean flavors. Here’s a look at some of the delicious new menu items they’ve cooked up! For breakfast, you’ll find some unique items like the Cream Cheese and Guava-Stuffed French Toast with fresh strawberry guava syrup! Or if pancakes are more your style, you can order the Pineapple-Banana Pancake served with crispy granola and maple syrup. If you’re looking for something on the savory side, then the Breakfast Cuban is just for you! This breakfast sandwich comes with ham, pulled pork, egg and Swiss cheese. On the lunch and dinner menus you’ll find some mouth-watering sandwiches and burgers, and I’m especially excited about the Chorizo Burger, which comes with provolone, potato straws, and my favorite part – crispy pork belly! Also featured on the menu are Chopped Jerk Chicken Salad, Plantain and Yuca Chips, and Caribbean Tacos. The tacos come with your choice of spiced fish, shredded beef, jerk chicken or vegan black beans and can be topped with pickled vegetables and cabbage, cilantro crema, cotija cheese and pico de gallo. For the kiddos, there’s a variety of options, including tacos with chicken or fish served with Mickey vegetable chips or fresh fruit. They can also get a Chopped Jerk Chicken Salad or even a Chili-Lime Shrimp Salad. And for dessert, they’ll love the Passion Fruit Tres Leche! Now, this menu wouldn’t be complete without some refreshing drinks to go with your delicious burger or tacos, right? Well there’s a little bit of everything on the drink menu from wine and beer to specialty cocktails such as the Island Margarita, Caribbean Mai Tai or Piña Colada. Sit back and enjoy the sunset or relax by the pool with a Strawberry Daiquiri, or with a nice glass of Chardonnay. For non-alcoholic options, you’ll find sodas, freshly brewed Joffrey’s Coffee, specialty coffee, hot cocoa, hot tea and even a Lava Smoothie. Spyglass Grill is located near the pool in the Trinidad South section of the Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and is a great option for guests staying at the southern end of the property. Whether you’re fueling up for a day in the parks or just need a snack while hanging out by the pool, this new quick service counter is the perfect place to chow down! View the full article
  18. Today we’re kicking off the week on the Disney Parks Blog with an early morning snapshot from Adventureland at Disneyland Park (Paris). Here, we see the impressive Disney Pirate Galleon, where young rapscallions can explore the ship from port to starboard and even get an up-close look at canons. 22. This was a response to a member that complained to the group about getting posts deleted and the consistency in deciding which posts were deleted. I thought it might help answer the same question for others so it was placed in the files section of the page. I often state when I say to keep the posts on track that they should be news and information posts about the parks or DVC, Posts should be DVC, DCL, travel or park related. We use to allow self-serving posts like "I got my Magic Bands Today!" but with the number of people in the group it is not practical to encourage those types of post anymore. They may be fun for a few but overall they do not benefit the group. Any photos from the parks are OK because members want to see them. So here is an example of 2 food photos in which one would be deleted and one not deleted: Photo one: A photo of a Mickey waffle on a plate at Crystal Palace. The sun is shining through the windows and you can see Pooh all blurry in the background. People what to see pictures from the World, especially ones that are "what's happening now" type of photos. Photo two: A picture of a Mickey waffle on a plate from your kitchen made with a MM waffle maker from Walmart with the self-serving title of. "Enjoying waffles Disney style at home. It is not in the park, it has nothing to do with the page it is just a picture of a waffle you made so it will be deleted. Our about section does state pictures from WDW are welcome. Humble brag posts will often get deleted too. Countdown posts will get deleted. I did a survey once and over 1500 members responded over one weekend that they had at least one confirmed reservation for a WDW stay. Posting your countdown is for your personal page, on here everyone is going to Disney and you are not unique. Thank God most of the members realize that and don't post DME docs, Magic Bands, and countdowns, the page would be overrun by them. Duplicate posts will get deleted. A rumor like the Hollywood Studios name change spawned several posts. Everyone wants to show they are so in the know so they don't check the page first, they just post. Now if you want to follow the comments they are all spread out among multiple posts and I want to keep the page as streamlined as a page with this many members can be. People comment and the same news bounces all over the page. Part of my reasoning has to do with the way FB delivers content to your news feed which I won't get into. Multiple posts also push down the posts of people that have a question and I would rather have someone’s question answered about DVC then a ton of posts about the same news story. Consistency, You don't know what is going on in the admins life so if you see a type of post that is up but you had one similar that was removed it is because we aren't on FB. The thing to remember is it is just managing the page it is nothing personal. Overall it is easy to figure out what should and should not be posted here. Ask yourself does this benefit the members of the group or am I posting this to self-serve my ego or to make others jealous etc. Id the topic about WDW, Traveling to WDW, DCL, DVC properties outside of WDW, or any aspect of park touring (example FastPass, Memory Maker, TIW, DDP etc…) and a little about Disneyland. I use this philosophy when deciding to delete or not. The posts that fall in the middle (B) are the ones that are not black and white and some will be left up and some will be deleted on a case by case basis. If I feel the posts falls on the hard left (A) it is deleted without question. Posts that fall on the right (C) are the type of posts that get all the likes. Members do ask for deletion clarification but I don't have the time to PM people every time I delete something. I will respond to those that PM me if I remember to check my "other" folder. Those that complain on the page get booted because it states in the rules to not take up admin issues publicly and to PM them.
