If you haven’t been to the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival at the Disneyland Resort yet, you must come out and experience it! This year’s festival has been the tastiest yet – celebrating the best food, wine and craft beers that California has to offer. With 15 Festival Marketplaces that have plenty of options, there’s something for everyone. The festival runs through April 12, 2018, so there’s still plenty of time to come on out and experience it for yourself. I just had to share some of my favorite eats, so read on to find out about the best of the best of this year’s festival! I’ll start the list with my personal favorite dish straight from the Cluck-a-Doodle-Moo Marketplace: Salt & Beer Vinegar Parmesan Chicken Wings! These savory wings are tossed in a special mix of salt and parmesan cheese and spritzed with a mist of beer vinegar to give it the extra fresh flavor. Also at this booth is one of my top drinks – a non-alcoholic Orange-Vanilla Cream Float, which is topped with whipped cream and pieces of vanilla cake. Right across from Cluck-a-Doodle-Moo on Paradise Pier are the Garlic Kissed and Off The Cob Marketplaces. Now if you’re a mac and cheese fan, you’ll definitely want to try the Creamy Mac & Cheese at Garlic Kissed. It comes topped with a garlic bread crumble… and it’s also vegetarian! At Off The Cob, you’ll find several yummy options that are perfect on-the-go snacks. The first is the Sweet Corn Nuggets. These savory little nuggets are topped with beef chili and chives with sour cream drizzled on top. And on the sweet side, you should definitely try the Caramel Popcorn Crispy Treat. This little treat comes in the form of a pop on a stick and is dipped in chocolate, and it has my mouth watering just writing about it! Now, after you’ve taken in all the sweet and salty goodness, you might be in need of a refreshing drink to enjoy while you stroll on to the next marketplace. For this, you can sip on the non-alcoholic Popcorn Lemonade Cocktail, which comes topped with whipped cream and is decorated with candy corn. Moving on to greener pastures, you can find the Eat Your Greens Marketplace right across from Wine Country Trattoria. Here, you have to try the crisp and cool dish of Compressed Asian Cucumbers. Fun fact about this dish – it’s vegan! This dish also comes topped with green sauce, toasted almonds and sea beans. And if you’re looking for another vegetarian option, you can look to the Grilled Asparagus Caesar Salad, drizzled with Caesar dressing and topped with crunchy croutons. But there’s also an amazing beverage here that all of you adults won’t want to miss out on – the Beet Kombucha Sangria. This bright and tasty drink is the perfect complement to any of these dishes, it even has a couple blackberries mixed in to add that extra “oomph!” Speaking of “oomph”…on the menu at the Avocado Time Marketplace, the Spiced Oumph! has been the talk of the festival this year! Served on pita bread with avocado hummus and garlic sauce, this delicious dish is another one of our vegan bites this year. Also on the menu at Avocado Time is the Avocado & Pepper Jack Petite Guacamole Burger. This juicy slider-sized burger is sure to make your mouth water. No matter what you get here, though, the Avocado Ice Cream Bar is the perfect dessert to follow your tasting spree, especially on a warm day. Another dessert that you won’t want to miss can be found at the Strawberry Patch Marketplace – it’s the Strawberry & Coconut Rice “Frushi” with Sweet Oikos Greek Nonfat Yogurt Wasabi Sauce. This fruit dessert goes perfectly with a glass of Strawberry Frosé, too, or even a non-alcoholic Strawberry Pineapple Float with Strawberry Popping Pearls. Now if you’re looking for something a bit more spicy than sweet, then the Peppers Cali-Ente Marketplace is the place to go! Here you can try the Jalapeño Popper Mac & Cheese with Bacon or the Verlasso Sustainable Salmon Peruvian Poke with a cucumber-lime salad and aju verde salsa. Both of these dishes can be paired with a refreshing Lime Margarita garnished with jalapeño or a non-alcoholic Watermelon Lemonade, served with an optional habanero sugar and chili-lime half-rim. So after you’ve spent the day tasting and sipping all of those delicious eats, you might be in the mood for a bit of relaxation with a snack an a cold, refreshing beer. The best spot for this is certainly Paradise Garden Grill and the Festival Beer Garden. Here you can either enjoy a tall glass of beer or try a few different brews with a special Beer Garden Flight. And what better snack to enjoy with that beverage than a Large Soft Pretzel served with a Beer-Mustard Dipping Sauce? This location is also the perfect place to sit back and relax while you listen to the sounds of live music underneath a canopy of trees. There you have it! My list of just a few of the amazing dishes at this year’s Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival. Today we’re bringing you a special Port Orleans Resort-themed What’s New! We always love an excuse to visit Port Orleans — French Quarter because of the beautiful landscaping, impeccably festive decor, and fun vibes. Port Orleans — French Quarter Just kidding. We mostly come for the Beignets. (But the other stuff is great, too!) Beignets at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter The food court at Port Orleans — French Quarter is dubbed the Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory, highlighting the resort’s location on the Sassagoula River and the colorful Mardi Gras-style float pieces that used to fill the space (you’ll still spot a few since the court’s reno in 2016). The use of coconut might be a little expected, but we’re on board. Bunny Cupcakes! We also had a reader question recently about Po’ Boys at French Quarter. They aren’t listed on Sassagoula’s official DisneyWorld.com menu — prompting some panic that maybe they’d been removed. But they’re currently there for now. They may disappear later, but for now…they’re safe. Po’Boys are still on the menu! Po’Boys on the menu! The Catfish Po’ Boy we enjoyed a couple of years ago is still an option! That breading is stellar! Catfish Po’Boy In resort activity news, Painting on de’ Bayou is still available! This guided painting session is $35, and you get to take the resulting artwork home with you! We love that this souvenir is a one-of-a-kind experience, not just another thing. Disney Parks Moms Panelist, Jackie P., loves nothing more than spending time with her family at the Walt Disney World Resort. Her family of four makes the pilgrimage from Canada to Orlando several times a year, as do many of our guests. However, when Jackie plans her vacations she must consider the needs of her autistic, teenage son. She finds this a much less difficult task thanks to the services for guests with cognitive disabilities that Walt Disney World Resort offers. “The Walt Disney World Resort takes great strides to afford all guests a safe and enjoyable experience through many online planning guides directing attention to extensive services keeping guests with special needs in mind,” she said. Jackie explained the services for guests with cognitive disabilities offers suitable strategies and services for the benefit of guests with cognitive disabilities, including Autism, such as: The Guide for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities containing helpful tips, information for Wheelchair and Stroller rentals, the Rider Switch service, advice for utilizing Disney FastPass+ service, the Disability Access Service (DAS), as well as additional individual service needs that can be discussed with a cast member at any theme park Guest Relations. Pages 12 and 13 of this guide offer excellent sample itinerary planning from the perspective of a ‘Visual Schedule Board’ so often used by many caregivers of family members with Autism, or any cognitive condition requiring visual aids to ease transition and aid with acclimatization. This guide also contains useful suggestions for acclimatization and comfort to decrease the impact of any external triggers, or stressors. Great care was taken for the development of this guide, taking every possible consideration in mind to afford guests on the Autism spectrum a more comfortable experience. Our Disney Doodles series explores what a Disney character – or characters – may do or see first if they had the chance to visit a Disney Park. We’re kicking off the month of April by taking a look at what Anastasia and Drizella, the pouty stepsisters from “Cinderella” might do if they visited Magic Kingdom Park. According to artist Ashley Taylor, the fact that they’d have to steer themselves around some attractions – like the Tomorrowland Speedway – may catch the spoiled sisters off guard. “I’d hate to be the cast member who has to tell Anastasia and Drizella that they need to drive themselves around the Tomorrowland Speedway!” Ashley said. “I can imagine each lap would be filled with pouts!” View the full article

If you’re planning to visit The Edison in Disney Springs, you’ll want to know about something new coming to the menu. The Edison Actually, make that something new to the menu EVERY MONTH, as April will kick off the new Burger of The Month Series! For the first-ever Burger of the Month, April will deliver The Edison’s Farmhouse and Cheese Burger in honor of National Toasted (Grilled) Cheese Month. (Bonus points if you try it on April 12th: Grilled Cheese DAY!) April’s Farmhouse and Cheese Burger ©The Edison You can expect gooey layers of fontina, muenster, gruyere, and Alpine Swiss along with The Edison’s signature blend of sirloin, short rib, brisket, and smoked bacon — all tucked between four slices of bread. In-season Florida tomatoes will top off the burger. Take our word for it: this could be a really great kickoff, because The Edison knows what it’s doing when it comes to Grilled Cheese. With fifteen food booths at the Flower and Garden Festival, you’ll need a gargantuan stomach or a solid plan of attack in order to enjoy it all. And since we can’t help you with the stomach, we’ll tackle the plan instead. When Flower and Garden began on February 28, we were there to try it all — and to let you know what to eat and what to skip in our Best of the Fest! post. Beef Brisket Burnt Ends and Smoked Pork Belly Slider And before the Festival even began, we gave you a heads up about some of our returning favorites, too. And of course, we’ve got food booth menus and food photos to help you plan your attack! 2. Move to the beat! Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival features terrific live music in its Garden Rocks Concert Series! Acts like Starship, Survivor, Smash Mouth, and Jo Dee Messina will light up the stage, and guests can enjoy the tunes in a few different ways. First, you can simply hang out near the American Gardens Theater stage and listen to the performances from afar. American Gardens Theatre Standby seating is also available for each day’s three performances, but you’ll want to line up early and be flexible about where you might score a seat. (Note that while some of the seating is under cover, most is not.) The final option for enjoying the Garden Rocks Concert Series is to pair it with a dining package — breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Then all you’ll have to do is sit back and enjoy the show! 3. Check out the Special Events! Guests lucky enough to be spending Easter weekend at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Hawai‘i are in for a treat. On Easter Sunday, young hotel guests are invited to participate in the first annual Aulani Spring Egg-stravaganza! The Hālāwai Lawn will transform into a field of hidden eggs from 9:30 to 11 a.m. DVC members will get a head start at 9 a.m. Keiki will be encouraged to gather as many eggs as they can carry and turn them into prizes! In honor of Women’s History Month, the Disneyland Resort Line, a magazine published exclusively for Disneyland Resort cast members, recently featured stories of legendary women who have helped shape the Disneyland Resort. I wanted to share a few of these extraordinary stories with Disney Parks Blog readers. Below is an excerpt of Leota Toombs Thomas’ story. I will share others in the weeks to follow! Leota “Lee” Toombs Thomas started her career in 1940 at the Walt Disney Studios’ Ink and Paint department, where she met and married lead animator Harvey Toombs. She left to raise their two children but returned in 1962 to join the team of Imagineers working on Disneyland Park. Lee joined Harriet Burns, Joyce Carlson and Glendra von Kessel to create many of the models and final pieces for such attractions as Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion and Country Bear Jamboree, just to name a few. After working on attractions and shows at Walt Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland, Lee came to work at the WDI Show Quality Service department at Disneyland, where she trained many of the artisans and designers in the Staff, Paint and Sign shops. She had worked with the original art directors, like Marc Davis, Mary Blair and John Hench, and could teach the new Imagineers about their styles and the nuances that made the scenes and characters work. One of the many young Imagineers she trained was, in fact, her own daughter, Kim Irvine, who would later become art director for Disneyland Park. “I started my career in the Model Shop in 1970, training with a big influx of young Imagineers that were being mentored by the originals,” Kim said. “It was a unique situation to be trained by your mom! She was a wonderful teacher and friend. Anyone who knew her loved her, and many Imagineers owe some of their success to her for passing on the tribal knowledge that is so important to our product.” Lee, who passed away in 1991, “always laughed that out of all the things that she had designed and created in her career, the one she is best known for is Madame Leota,” Kim said, referring to the face in the crystal ball at the Haunted Mansion. “But I am grateful, as I walk through New Orleans Square in the early hours of the morning, I can hear that sweet little voice of hers echoing ‘Hurry back!’ She would have liked that.” View the full article

Pixar Fest kicks off in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure on April 13th, and the Aliens from Toy Story are taking over Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port for the duration of the festival! Redd Rocket’s Pizza Port sign That’s right! Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port in Tomorrowland will be transformed into Alien Pizza Planet — “A Better Place”! The specialty of the house — just like on their home planet of Pepperonia — will be a pepperoni pizza topped with green peppers and mushrooms. Other options will include Cheeseburger Pizza topped with ketchup, yellow mustard and pizza sauce on a sesame seed crust and further topped with cheese, caramelized onions, diced tomatoes, slider patties, a house-made burger sauce, and pickles. Oooooooooh – everyone’s favorite Aliens from Disney•Pixar’s “Toy Story” will be invading Disneyland Resort for Pixar Fest, and we are eternally grateful! For the duration of the festival, Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port in Disneyland park will transform into Alien Pizza Planet – “A Better Place.” The Aliens have sourced the finest ingredients from across the universe to deliver fresh, hot pizzas that are out of this world. A specialty of their home planet Pepperonia is a special pepperoni pizza topped with green peppers and mushrooms. They’ll also be cooking up a hearty cheeseburger pizza with ketchup, yellow mustard and pizza sauce on a sesame seed crust and topped with cheese, caramelized onions, diced tomatoes, slider patties, a house-made burger sauce, and pickles. Less than three years after Disneyland park opened its gates and the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad made its first Grand Circle Tour, guests were invited to take in the vast valley of the South Rim with the debut of the Grand Canyon Diorama. During the grand opening ceremony on March 31, 1958, Walt Disney himself piloted the engine through the tunnel to view the 306-foot-long diorama which, at the time, was described as the longest diorama in the world. Featuring artwork from scenic artist Delmer Yoakum and set to the sounds of Ferde Grofé’s “Grand Canyon Suite,” the realistic diorama can only be seen aboard the Disneyland Railroad. Last summer, both the Grand Canyon Diorama and Primeval World (which debuted in 1966) were carefully restored to their original splendor, with a bit of new magic added to both! View the full article

Star Wars: Galactic Nights, the one-night special event, will return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 27. In case you aren’t familiar, Star Wars: Galactic Nights is a thrilling Star Wars-themed event held after park hours from 7 p.m.-midnight. It celebrates the entire Star Wars saga with out-of-this-world entertainment, special photo opportunities, event-exclusive merchandise and F&B, and encounters with rarely seen characters that guests can only experience during Star Wars: Galactic Nights. Here’s what you’ll find this year: The event-exclusive projection show, Star Wars: Galactic Destinations, will debut a new, surprise planet. Keep your eyes open! New talent from the Star Wars galaxy will make a special appearance during the event. Guests can meet an array of legendary Star Wars characters, many who are available only during Star Wars: Galactic Nights, including Rey, Captain Phasma, the 7th Sister, AWR Stormtroopers, Darth Vader and even EWOKS. Tonight’s “After Dark” series features a terrific pic of a resplendent Enchanted Storybook Castle – the largest Disney castle ever constructed at a Disney Park – at Shanghai Disneyland. Highlighted with golden spires and a Renaissance-style entrance on the exterior, Enchanted Storybook Castle also features four magnificent mosaics depict the tales of Tiana, Merida, Rapunzel, Elsa and Anna, plus an illuminated marquee that reveals motifs attributed to Belle, Cinderella and Snow White. The Bengal Barbecue in Disneyland’s Adventureland is the place to go for interesting eats — whether you’re a meat eater, a veggie lover, or somewhere in between! It’s long been an awesome spot to grab a snack, and now Bengal Barbecue is serving up some stellar entrees! Bengal Barbecue You’ll recognize Bengal Barbecue by this cool carved sign, which may or may not be how we look when biting into one of the many skewers served up in this location! Bengal Barbecue And when we say skewers, we mean skewers, y’all! At present, Bengal Barbecue offers the Banyan Beef Skewers, Chieftain Chicken Skewers, Outback Vegetable Skewers, Safari Skewers, and Bengal Beef Skewers! Woo! They’re all tasty — and convenient! Kalua Pork Sandwich with Macaroni Salad and Jungle Julep Served on a Hawaiian Bun and topped with Pineapple-Jalapeño Salsa and Spicy Hoisin Sauce, the perfect pulled pork was delicious! The soft bun was a good accompaniment. Kalua Pork Sandwich with Macaroni Salad And the tropical salsa added some nice contrast, with fresh fruit and vegetables combining for a spicy-sweet bite. Tropical Salsa atop Kalua Pork Sandwich The Macaroni Salad side is a classic and doesn’t pull any culinary punches. But it’s creamy and a nice accompaniment. Macaroni Salad at Bengal Barbecue Also served with the Macaroni Salad and the Sandwich is a bag of Maui Onion Potato Chips. Maui Style Maui Onion Potato Chips You could happily eat these sides separately as, perhaps, they are intended to be eaten. Sides Or you can hack your sides by crumbling some potato chips on top of the macaroni. Seriously. Starches on top of carbs is our favorite food group. Hack your sides! So Heather completely recommends the Kalua Pork Sandwich, but if you’re looking to try Bengal Barbecue’s famous skewers, you might want to opt for the Bengal Rice Plate. This combo plate includes your choice of two skewers plus a bed of jasmine rice and a side of citrus-miso slaw. Bengal Rice Plate This is another instance where the real life offering surpassed the picture on the sign. The Rice Plate is loaded! Heather opted for the Safari Skewer — asparagus wrapped in bacon — and the Bengal Beef Skewer. Rice Plate with Safari Skewer and Pork Belly Skewer The Citrus-Miso Slaw is packed with lots of components and textures, like edamame, sesame seeds, and cabbage. The rice was simple but a good base for the skewers. Rice Plate Bengal Barbecue is also serving a new Pork Belly Skewer — and it looks terrific! BBQ Pork Belly Skewer Sign Of course, a visit to The Bengal Barbecue pretty much always needs to include a Jungle Julep. We love the Jungle Julep — and it’s just as refreshing and tasty as ever! This past weekend, the Disneyland Resort horses participated in the annual Swallows Day Parade in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., a picturesque town located just south of the Disneyland Resort. This year marked the 60th anniversary of the parade, which commemorates the day cliff-dwelling swallows return to the city from their winter home in Argentina. San Juan Capistrano is also known for its robust equestrian community, so the Circle D cast members (both two-legged and four-legged) felt right at home. Disneyland Resort horses, Brother and Chief, were this year’s featured participants, along with Disney Ambassadors Alexa Garcia and Nozomi Fukumoto (all the way from Tokyo Disney Resort). Easter is here and our pastry chefs have once again outdone themselves with their beautiful Easter egg displays and bunny-themed cupcakes. We even have a few Easter brunch offerings to share with you. Here’s everything you need to know about all of the Easter offerings this year at Walt Disney World Resort! Easter Egg Displays and Special Easter Treats This year marks the 7th Annual Easter Egg Display at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, which is designed and hand-decorated by the Grand Floridian Bakery Team. This beautiful display of chocolate eggs will be on display through April 9 in the resort lobby. Each egg is ornamented with edible products such as modeling chocolate, fondant, sugar floral royal icing, colored cocoa butter, and sculpted sugar art pieces. Boma – Flavors of Africa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge will be featuring their chocolate Easter egg display March 30–April 1. This display includes eggs inspired by Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge as well as eggs inspired by “Up,” “Moana,” “Peter Pan,” and more! In the 1st floor lobby of Disney’s Contemporary Resort, you’ll find a magical array of Easter eggs inspired by some of Disney’s most popular animated classics such as “Beauty and the Beast,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Jungle Book,” “Lilo & Stitch,” and more. And if you look closely, you might even find the signatures of your favorite Disney pals! This year marks the 6th anniversary of this amazing Easter egg display, designed by the Contemporary Bakery Team. These adorable chocolate eggs will be on display through April 4. At Disney’s Beach Club Resort, a beautiful chocolate Easter egg display will be located in the resort lobby through April 3. And for the first time ever, you can purchase custom Mickey and Minnie chocolate eggs to take home with you. These special eggs will be available for purchase through April 1. Now, if you’re looking for some more tasty Easter treats, we’ve got a few special cupcakes that you’ll want to know about. At Epcot, you’ll find Easter cupcakes at Fountain View and Sunshine Seasons. Fountain View’s cupcake will be available on March 30–April 2. This chocolate cupcake has a marshmallow filling and is topped with buttercream icing. Sunshine Seasons’ cupcake features an adorable fondant bunny with buttercream, cookies and cream crumble, and jelly beans all on top of a vanilla cupcake, and will only be available on April 1. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you’ll find another bunny-themed vanilla cupcake through April 2. This Springtime Cupcake comes with raspberry filling and is topped with buttercream frosting and white chocolate bunny ears. It will be served at The Trolley Car Café, Rosie’s All-American Café, Fairfax Fare, and ABC Commissary. Creature Comforts at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park will be serving up an Easter Cupcake on April 1. This vanilla cupcake is filled with key lime curd and is topped with coconut buttercream and cute little fondant eggs. Intermission Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort will feature a Marshmallow Chick Cupcake through April 8. This yellow cupcake is filled with marshmallow ganache and topped with marshmallow grass and a marshmallow chick! Easter Brunch Offerings Also at Intermission Food Court, an Easter Brunch Buffet will be offered from 9am-2pm on April 1. The buffet will feature an array of delicious items such as red velvet pancakes, fresh fruit and pastries, spinach salad with bacon vinaigrette, sweet potato casserole, cooked-to-order omelets, brown sugar-glazed ham with orange blossom honey mustard sauce and much more! Over at Boatwright’s Dining Hall at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside, you can partake in an Easter brunch on April 1, available from 10am-2pm. This brunch will feature southern cuisine such as eggs benedict with crab, southern shrimp and grits, and Nashville hot chicken on a honey biscuit, as well as special Bloody Marys and Mimosas. There will also be an Easter brunch at Ale & Compass Restaurant at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort from 7:30am-2pm on April 1. This brunch will include All-You-Care-To-Enjoy items such as assorted flatbreads, seasonal salads, and house-baked pastries and spreads as well as a choice of entrée with a specialty mimosa or non-alcoholic beverage. All three of these Easter brunch dining experiences require no reservations, and will only be available on April 1, 2018. For me, one of the great privileges of working here is the chance to meet so many extraordinarily creative, intelligent and inspirational cast members – including our incredible Imagineers, who are the the creative force that imagines, designs and builds all Disney theme parks, resorts, attractions and cruise ships worldwide. Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting 25 of the country’s top female journalists at the Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) Campus in Glendale, California. Members of the Online News Association’s Women’s Leadership Accelerator Program took time from a week-long event at the USC Annenberg School of Journalism to tour of the campus. The visit included a panel of some of our top creative executives, who discussed the art, passion and creativity of storytelling in a way that captures the hearts of our guests around the world. The panel was moderated by our own Disneyland PR Director Michele Himmelberg, who was also an award-winning journalist. Panelists included: Charita Carter, Producer: Charita’s scenic illusion team is responsible for advancing new creative technologies to bring storytelling to the next level, including Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Jeanette Lomboy, Regional Executive WDI Pacific: Jeannette has been a creative force at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii, and Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, among others. Robin Reardon – Executive Creative Producer: Robin is one of the top creative executives working tirelessly on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
