Wine Bar George is one of the most highly anticipated additions to the vibrant food and beverage scene at Disney Springs. This 200-seat wine bar, scheduled to open soon, is centrally located at The Landing. The space is reminiscent of a winemaker’s home, complete with terrace seating that has sweeping views of Disney Springs and the waterfront stage. Wine Bar George will offer more than 130 selections by the ounce, glass, and bottle in a range of varietals, vintages, and prices. Acclaimed wineries as well as up-and-coming growing regions and wineries will be featured along with small plates, artisan cheese and charcuterie boards, and sharable entrées designed to complement the wine list. The biggest reason for all the excitement is George Miliotes himself – renown wine expert, native Floridian, and Disney alum. A celebrity in the wine world, George is a Master Sommelier – one of only 249 in the world. In fact, Wine Bar George is the only wine bar in Florida owned by a Master Sommelier. We gladly accepted the invitation from George to stop by his home to taste (and sip!) some of the highlights from Wine Bar George. Executive Chef Ron Rupert, who will be at the helm of all things culinary at Wine Bar George, also joined us. My partner, Alex Dunlap, captured some shots of what will be offered and, no surprise, everything was delicious – on the plate and in the glass! George poured two very special wines to taste – both are listed on the menu under “Outstanding by the Ounce.” These exceptional wines are selected by George in partnership with the respective winery. These wines can be ordered by 1 oz, 3 oz, or 6 oz pours or by the bottle. For the first wine, George met with owner/winemaker Johannes Selbach to secure a delicious Selbach-Oster, Bömer Riesling – dry, crisp, lush, and very food-friendly. The second wine – Antinori Guado al Tasso – is an incredible Super Tuscan made from the classic Bordeaux grapes with Cabernet Sauvignon as the star. George snagged the wine direct from the winery in vintages from 2004 through 2013. Ron’s philosophy in the kitchen at Wine Bar George is simple. “I want to create delicious food that pairs well with wine. I pull flavors from around the world that are relevant – that create memories.” Here is a sneak peek at some of his dishes. The Big Board – An impressive selection of six artisan cheeses and five crafted meats that serves two or more. Grilled Octopus with Lemon Vinaigrette – This light and refreshing salad has tender pieces of Spanish octopus (a result of grilling then chilling the octopus) with a touch of acidity from the lemon vinaigrette. Crispy Mac & Cheese Bites – These crispy cheesy bites are surprisingly light. Served with tomato nage and Pecorino, they are Ron’s imaginative take on a grilled cheese with tomato soup. Porchetta Spiced Pork Cheeks – Served with a creamy three-cheese polenta, these small bites of meaty goodness are cooked long and slow to perfection. The orange gremolata takes it over the top. Grilled Whole Greek Sea Bass – One of the “family-style plates” that serves two or more, this light and tender whole fish is served with cannelloni bean ragoût and seasonal vegetables. Olive Oil Cake – This moist cake with a rich olive oil flavor is served with candied olives and lemon mascarpone. When the doors open to Wine Bar George, expect something special. “It is my responsibility to bring joy to the wine list and the experience,” said George. “I want Wine Bar George to encourage conversations of what is brilliant and special in the wine world.” There is so much more to taste and sip at Wine Bar George and we will be sharing the entire menu, along with the opening date, in an upcoming blog post. This week, two new characters were unveiled in the Toy Story Mania! queue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Lenny, Andy’s walking binoculars, and Chuckles the clown, who was introduced to us in “Toy Story 3,” became the latest Toy Story characters to be represented in Toy Story Mania! by way of the boxes they originally came in. These new details were unwrapped as the attraction transforms for the opening of Toy Story Land on June 30. Toy Story Land guests will walk through an all-new entrance featuring a carnival game box to experience Toy Story Mania!, which has been a guest-favorite attraction at the park since it opened in 2008. Now expanded with a third track, the popular attraction will allow even more guests to take aim at 3D objects – using everything from baseballs to cream pies – in a variety of whimsical, fast-paced games. When Toy Story Land opens, guests will “shrink” to the size of a toy and join in on the fun Woody, Jessie, Buzz, and the rest of the gang are having in Andy’s backyard. Guests will be able to take a ride on Slinky Dog Dash, a roller coaster Andy has assembled from his Mega Coaster Play Kit, or take a spin on Alien Swirling Saucers, a galactic play set that Andy won at Pizza Planet. We’re kicking off another week on the Disney Parks Blog with another adorable Disney Doodle from artist Ashley Taylor. In our Disney Doodles series, different Disney artists take turns imaging what different Disney characters would do or see first if they had the chance to visit a Disney Park. In today’s Doodle, artist Ashley imagines what the Caterpillar from “Alice In Wonderland” would do on a visit to Magic Kingdom Park. According to her, he’d likely head to a place where he’d be able to put himself to work – Guest Relations at City Hall. “The cast members at Guest Relations always have to multitask throughout the day!” she said. “I’d imagine the Caterpillar from ‘Alice in Wonderland’ could be an asset to the team with his multiple hands!” View the full article

This month, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will mark its 20th anniversary at Walt Disney World Resort. The park, which opened as “a new species of theme park” on April 22, 1998, continues inspiring and educating guests of all ages today through the magic of nature. For Disney Parks Merchandise, this milestone occasion was the perfect opportunity for creating an unforgettable collection of merchandise inspired by the theme park’s iconic centerpiece. “We mixed earth tone colors with images of animals and icons reminiscent of the beautifully sculpted animal carvings found on the breathtaking Tree of Life,” explained Cody Reynolds, Senior Creative Director with Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media Creative Group. From a banshee at Pandora – The World of Avatar to a Baobab tree from the Kilimanjaro Safaris attractions, artists drew more than 50 stylized animals, icons and graphics for an artwork style guide. Merchandise developers referenced this guide when creating items to ensure the overall assortment had a consistent look. Artwork on a t-shirt and matching water bottle captures the park’s tremendous transformation during the past 20 years, and includes nods to attractions from opening day to the more recent other-worldly additions of Na’vi River Journey and Avatar Flight of Passage. “Guests love merchandise that commemorates significant moments in time,” said Katie Thompson from Global Merchandise Strategy at Disney Parks Merchandise. “This new merchandise builds on the success of recent theme park anniversary collections, and offers something for everyone looking to celebrate at Animal Kingdom throughout the upcoming year.” Designed to complement each other, merchandise offered includes a mix of apparel for adults and kids, home décor, accessories and other collectibles such as trading pins or jewelry by ALEX AND ANI. On select products, the merchandise team added hidden surprises in the artwork. A closer examination of drinkware reveals images of tiny ants strategically placed for guests to discover. Island Mercantile in Disney’s Animal Kingdom serves as the headquarters for the 20th anniversary assortment. Select products may also be found in shops throughout the park or via Shop Disney Parks. Stay tuned to Disney Parks Blog for details about new limited release items being released at the “Party for the Planet” celebration that kicks off on Earth Day, April 22. View the full article

Pixar Fest has invaded just about every restaurant at Disneyland Resort — including Award Wieners! This fantastic hot dog spot was the site of the Summer of Heroes’ Funnel Cake fries last year, and this year, the themed funnel cake fries are brand new…and awesome! Award Wieners Exterior The Pixar Fest menu at Award Wieners includes a Pulled Pork Hot Dog, Nemo and Dory Tumblers, and our two items of the day: Funnel Cake Fries and the Rotating Flavor Slush! Pixar Fest Menu at Award Wieners We’re gonna start with the loser of the pair: the Rotating Flavor Slush, which on our visit was Lime and Grape. It looks lovely, with the Mike and Sulley-esque bright green and purple contrast. But the grape flavor is seriously kids grape medicine, so unless you desire to drink something akin to cough syrup, hard pass this one, friends. Grape/Lime Slush at Award Wieners for Pixar Fest Instead, dig into the Funnel Cake Fries! As ever, the fries are golden brown and crispy. Then they’re topped with Whipped Cream, sugary Glaze, and Fruit Cereal (i.e. Fruity Pebbles)! How colorful and fun! And this tastes awesome (if a little sweet!). We definitely recommend!
