In our continuing Christmas in July series, this week we are headed to the seas with Disney Cruise Line. The holidays start in early November with Disney Cruise Line as the cruise ships are magically transformed into holiday wonderlands and another season of Very Merrytime Cruises begin. The special holiday sailings are packed with festive events for young and old, and it is one of the most joyous places to spend your holiday season. “When we set sail on our first Very Merrytime Cruise, I remember being in awe of the life-size gingerbread house standing in the Lobby Atrium!” explains Disney Parks Moms Panelist, Beth. “From the moment we stepped onboard, the smell of gingerbread filled the air! Since then, whenever we smell gingerbread around the holidays, we always tell stories about our Very Merrytime Cruise!” A few of the winter parties and themed entertainment on the ships include: Mickey’s Tree-Lighting Magic Santa’s Winter Wonderland Ball Deck the Deck Holiday Party There will be holiday activities for the entire family including singing Christmas carols with Dickens-inspired carolers and building gingerbread houses. And did you know you can even bring your wrapped presents on board? Panelist, Stephanie L., explains that guests can bring wrapped packages on board either in checked luggage on in a carry-on. “There is always the chance that they need to be opened or searched, but that is on a case by case basis. Take a glance at the list of prohibited items and as long as you are not planning on gifting a bicycle or any other prohibited item, there should not be any issue with bringing wrapped gifts onboard. Hint: Disney gift cards make a great gift or stocking stuffer since they can be used in the onboard gift shops!” To celebrate the holidays, the Disney Magic sails four-, five- and seven-night Bahamian cruises, five- and six-night Eastern Caribbean cruises, and five-night Western Caribbean cruises departing Nov. 10 to Dec. 23; the Disney Wonder sails four-, six- and seven-night Western Caribbean cruises and seven-night Bahamian cruises departing from Nov. 2 to Dec. 21; the Disney Dream sails three- and four-night Bahamian cruises departing from Nov. 9 to Dec. 24; and the Disney Fantasy sails seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises departing from Nov. 10 to Dec. 22. This weekend, five-time Grammy Award-winning gospel singer Yolanda Adams sailed aboard the Disney Dream to celebrate her daughter’s high school graduation with a Disney Cruise Line vacation! You may already be familiar with Restaurantosaurus in Animal Kingdom’s Dinoland, U.S.A. This popular Counter Service option serves up classics like Burgers and Chicken Nuggets in a super fun — and seriously funny (check it out here!) — atmosphere. Restaurantosaurus Sign Well, a new offering has just arrived at Restaurantosaurus! Should you find yourself in Dinoland looking for a spot to relax and unwind, you can visit the Restaurantosaurus Lounge! Restaurantosaurus Lounge sign The Lounge is open daily from 5:00 pm until park close during its three month trial period. When you see this sign, just enter through the door in the building behind it. (It’s on the left hand side of the restaurant.) Restaurantosaurus Lounge sign and entrance side You’ll find the check-in area is ready to greet you! Check-in area Liquor Bottles Guests can place their orders directly at the counter based on the menu offerings, which currently feature a selection of Cocktails like the Tequilasaurus margarita and Primordial Booze as well as Mocktails such as the Teal Rex and Paleontology Punch. Restaurantosaurus Lounge menu Two Small Bites are on offer: Buffalo Chicken Dip with House-made Chips and Sweet-and-Spicy Mixed Nuts. Then just find your seat! Restaurantosaurus Lounge A portion of the restaurant has been entirely dedicated to Lounge seating. Restaurantosaurus Lounge Candles have been placed upon the tables to inspire a more relaxing setting. Candle But, of course, the supplies and sights inside of the Paleontology storage area of the restaurant are still in place. Restaurantosaurus Lounge decor EXITosaurus Again, the Restaurantosaurus Lounge is on a trial run for three months. So if it meets with success, it may become a regular offering in the park. This isn’t the first time Disney has dedicated a portion of a Counter Service location to serve as a lounge. Anyone remember the Rebel Hangar Star Wars Lounge that was held at Backlot Express in Hollywood Studios for Star Wars Weekends in days of yore? Now, the Restaurantosaurus Lounge is by no means as highly themed as that experience, nor are the food and drink offerings as unique and diverse. (In fairness, though, this Lounge is not running as part of a special event such as Star Wars Weekends.) But if it survives the trial run, could it perhaps expand on its offerings and theme? Riley’s imaginary best friend from Inside Out, Bing Bong, is serving treats inspired by the candy tears he cries. Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff It’s time for all kinds of SWEET STUFF for guests on Pixar Promenade! Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff Memory Refreshers Inside Out Cake Pops Lollipop Rainbow Incredibles Krispy Treat From Inside to Out (see what I did there ), the shop is brightly colored, just like Bing Bong himself. Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff Vivid hues set the colorful scene. Cast Members and Rainbow Unicorn Balloon Passageway Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff Candy Tears on the floor Now, it should be noted that even though Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff is now open, Bing Bong’s isn’t entirely ready just yet. There’s still more to come to this new sweet stop (currently hidden behind the trunk of the as-yet-to-be-revealed Bing Bong). Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff yet to be revealed Bing Bong Statue Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff But there’s plenty to see right now, too! The merchandise area starts from the outside, and greatly expands within. Entering Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff And we’ll take a little tour of that later. First, we’re going to start at what is actually at the end of the store’s set-up, since it’s what we’ve all been waiting for… the new confectionery items! Confectionery Case Because it’s a confectionery, it’s possible you can guess several of the items you’ll find here. Classic Disney sweets in the bakery case include Caramel Apples, Cake Pops, Mickey Krispy Treats, Marshmallow Wands, and more. But, of course, many of the snacks have been dressed up to match the Pixar-themed occasion! Inside Out Cake Pops Bing Bong Apple Incredibles Krispy Treat Eve Cake Pops Though we’ve had a look at some of these items throughout Pixar Fest, several are making their debut here at Bing Bong’s… and the one that fits in the most, of course, is the Bing Bong Candy Apple! Bing Bong Apple Bing Bong’s gonna run you $13.99… which is pretty steep for an apple! But you at least have to sneak a peek at the spot’s signature snack. You’ll currently find the Pixar Ball Apple ($12.99), as well. Pixar Ball Apple And — as anticipated — the Inside Out Emotions have their own Cake Pops! Inside Out Cake Pops Sadness Cake Pop Disgust Cake Pop Inside Disgust Cake Pop Anger Cake Pop Fear Cake Pop The cake filling each cake pop matches the Emotion’s signature color, and the flavors vary with each Emotion, too! Joy Cake Pop For sure the favorite was Joy’s Lemon Cake Pop, with its pop of bright, citrus-y flavor. Inside Joy Cake Pop Inside Out Cake Pop Collage Hanging high above the confectionery area is a sign showing you the signature drinks of the house… Memory Refreshers! Jangles the Clown Presents Memory Refreshers Jangles the Clown shows you that your frozen drink options include Rainbow Unicorn, Sunshine in a Cup, Imaginary Pal, Slow Burn, and Gloomy Blues. Memory Refreshers Menu The Rainbow Unicorn Memory Refresher combines Mellow Yellow, Hi-C Lime, and the following Fanta flavors: Blue Raspberry, Grape, and Cherry. The drink is layered in such a way that it keeps its separated rainbow colors… at least at first!(Maybe this is inspired by the World of Color slush — an off the menu creation that many in-the-know Disney snackers have loved on both coasts for the past year or two!) Slow Burn Memory Refresher I enjoyed the flavor and therefore the drink, but honestly didn’t pick up on much of the habanero heat at all. Here, the park’s Western River Railroad is just beginning its day, chugging its way through Westernland, passing Splash Mountain and Tom Sawyer Island Rafts. At Tokyo Disneyland, the railroad whisks guests on a scenic journey past through the park’s Adventureland, Critter Country, and an elevated view of Westernland offerings. And the Emmy goes to… “Disney’s Broadway Hits at Royal Albert Hall!” At this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards, the award for Outstanding Directing – Special Class was presented to Director Jay Hatcher, part of the Broadcast Production team at Walt Disney World Resort. “Disney’s Broadway Hits” was also honored with an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Sound Mixing. This spectacular show was the result of a long-standing collaboration between Jay and his team at Disney Parks Live Entertainment and Jeff Lee and the Disney Theatrical Productions team in New York. “Jeff and I had worked together previously on several concert events, bringing the magic of Disney on Broadway to our parks and our ships,” said Jay. “For us to have the opportunity to bring that into people’s homes, we took that responsibility very seriously. And to be recognized at the highest level for our efforts is a complete dream come true.” “Disney’s Broadway Hits,” celebrating two decades of stage musicals from Disney Theatrical Productions, was a concert performed live in October 2016 at London’s Royal Albert Hall and broadcast on the Sky Arts Television Network, as well as BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night. The concert included highlights from Broadway musicals “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King,” “Aida,” “Tarzan,” “Mary Poppins,” “The Little Mermaid,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” “Aladdin,” “Frozen” and “Newsies,” with performances by a number of Disney stage veterans. The show also featured an appearance by Tony Award and eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, accompanied by the 74-piece BBC Concert Orchestra. The new dining experience includes a buffet of Disney’s Animal Kingdom-themed desserts, snacks and drinks before enjoying VIP views of the beautiful nighttime experience “Rivers of Light.” The Dessert Party experiences will take place on select nights starting on Monday, August 6, 2018. We’ve just learned Disney is adding some new magical touches to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party! Halloween at Disney! You know how much we LOOOOVE Halloween in Disney World, so I can’t wait to share these with you… Real live pirates will be invading the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. They will interact with guests as we sail by, plus we get the chance to join in the hunt for Gunpowder Pete as we sail along. Special lighting and effects are being added to the Mad Tea Party ride that gives it a special glow! A new soundtrack and more (the mysterious “more,” no indication was given of what this is) will be added to Space Mountain. (Wondering if it will be anything like Ghost Galaxy in Disneyland?!?) Disney Junior Characters, including Doc McStuffins, will be hosting a dance party in the Storybook Circus area for the Storybook Circus Disney Junior Jam. In addition to these changes this is also the 25th anniversary of the Hocus Pocus movie that we’ve seen added to the theming and events of the party over the past couple of years. To celebrate the anniversary the Sanderson Sisters will cast a spell on the crowd during the Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular in the Cinderella Castle Forecourt Stage. Joyful Stage Hollywood Studios The Flurry of Fun is coming back to Hollywood Studios starting November 8th, with the returning Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! spectacular and Sunset Seasons Greetings. Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! This year, lasers will be added to the top and mid-sections of the tower for the projections on the Tower of Terror for Sunset Seasons Greetings. Projections on the Hollywood Tower Hotel during Sunset Seasons Greetings Not only will they fly over our heads as we take in the vignettes… they’ll also light up the snow that falls on Sunset Boulevard! Echo Lake during the Flurry of Fun For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration will present its holiday version again. Sing Along with Elsa and Anna during the Holidays And, of course, we’re already looking forward to welcoming back Santa Goofy to Once Upon a Time! Santa Goofy Sunset Boulevard And we can’t wait to see the special decorations coming to Toy Story Land! Christmas Lights hang above Toy Story Land We know so far that the statues will have overlays… and we might even see some Holiday attire on Woody, Buzz, and Jessie! Disney Springs New offerings coming to the themed trees that make up the Disney Springs Christmas Tree Trail will include a Haunted Mansion Tree, a Star Wars Tree, a Four Parks Tree (with Monorail Garland!), a Nordic Winter Tree, and a nostalgic Minnie and Mickey Tree. Christmas Tree Trail sign Find Santa along the Trail again, too! Meet Santa in Disney Springs Stitch’s Holiday Gift Hunt will offer a scavenger hunt booklet for the kiddos as they bide time waiting for Santa. And Holiday Cake Decorating Classes at Amorette’s Patisserie will also be available to book during the season for all Disney World guests. Santa Mickey Dome Cake The Patisserie is also planning to create five character-themed large Signature Cakes, and a small Signature Cake to resemble a wreath decorated with ornaments. And various Macaron Lollipops will also make the season even sweeter! Here’s a peek at what the elves — I mean, Pastry Chefs! — at Amorette’s have in mind for this year (but, as all concept pieces, these are subject to change). Disney Style Store in Disney Springs And limited-time festive menu items will be available at spots like D-Luxe Burger, The Ganachery, and more again this year! Disney Springs Holiday Dining In fact, expect some “extra Instagram-friendly” Holiday eats! (We can’t wait!) Resort Gingerbread Displays and Activities Of course, the famous Gingerbread Resort Displays are always a highlight of the Holidays at Disney World. And we learned a little more about what goes into making these beautiful creations! 2017 Grand Floridian Gingerbread House Things start with a honey dough, and the Gingerbread itself is made three months ahead of display time for fermentation. Complete with lots of honey and flour (and by continuously adding spices), the gingerbread display pieces are coated with alcohol to prevent pests from eating them. 2017 Beach Club Gingerbread Carousel And while you’re at the various Resorts to see all the displays, look for unique themed ornaments to be available at each Resort! Animal Kingdom Lodge ornament Polynesian Village Resort decoration These are AWESOME!! Grand Floridian Tea Cup Ornament Art of Animation Resort ornament Fort Wilderness Campgrounds are always especially festive during the Holiday Season, and one way guests can participate in the cheer is by enjoying a Sleigh Ride through the grounds! Holiday Sleigh Ride Pin The popular rides return year after year, and in 2018, the offered dates will run from November 23 – December 30, with bookings available from 5:00 – 10:00 pm. Sleigh Rides will be $84 and will include a Pin. Yuletide Fantasy and Holiday D-Lights Tours We enjoyed a Preview of what guests can expect if they book the Yuletide Fantasy or Holiday D-Lights Tour this year! Yuletide Fantasy Tour information (click to enlarge) In particular, we learned that Yuletide Fantasy will be enhanced this year with a sweet stop at Amorette’s Patisserie in Disney Springs! Gingerbread Display at Amorette’s Patisserie from 2017 Tour guests will be decorating a tour-exclusive Disney-themed Gingerbread Man, and will even receive a special gift at the end of the class that will correlate with their Disney Gingerbread! (We don’t know all the details yet, as Amorette’s would like to keep some of the information a SURPRISE for as long as they can!) Mickey Nutcracker Gingerbread for Yuletide Fantasy The tour will end at Amorette’s, and guests will be welcome to stay in Disney Springs or can choose to be brought back to where the tour begins: Epcot. Yuletide Fantasy And don’t forget… the Holiday D-Lights Tour is another festive tour option for the Holidays! Just a few more things we learned today during the Yuletide Fantasy portion of the event that we thought you might enjoy ! Did you know… The 65-foot tall, 26-foot wide Main Street Christmas Tree in Magic Kingdom takes two nights to install, and the base alone is 18,000 pounds! And 119,000 Poinsettias are installed around Disney World for the season (with 52,000 in Magic Kingdom). Magic Kingdom at Christmas Time It takes 30 Cast Members 7 days to install the Contemporary Resort Gingerbread Display. 2017 Contemporary Resort Gingerbread Display And can you believe… the Grand Floridian Gingerbread Display needs its own building permit! Up on the rooftop of the Grand Floridian Gingerbread House 98% of the Christmas lights in Disney World are LED. That’s 98% of the grand total: 8.5 million! Epcot Christmas Tree And 1,500 Christmas Trees are decorated in total.
