We just brought you the news that the Grand Floridian Gingerbread House is open in its new location, and now we’re back with reviews of a few of the holiday treats you can expect to find there this year! S’mores Cookie On the Gingerbread House’s opening day at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, we tried the Apple-Cinnamon Cupcake, Mickey Head Gingerbread Ornament, and S’mores Cookie. The Apple-Cinnamon Cupcake is made of spiced vanilla cake, cinnamon frosting, vanilla frosting, and apple filling. It’s $5.50 and eligible for for a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan. Apple-Cinnamon Cupcake The vanilla frosting is piped over the top of the cinnamon frosting, which made for a delicious combination. While there was a lot of frosting, it wasn’t too much. We love the artistic touches for each layer, too! Apple-Cinnamon Cupcake There wasn’t a ton of apple filling, but the flavor was strong and present throughout the whole cupcake. The apples were still slightly crisp, too, which added a really nice texture! Honestly, we loved this one. (We’ve been having some good luck with apple cupcakes this season — check out the Apple Cupcake and Not-so-Poison Apple Cupcake reviews!) Apple-Cinnamon Cupcake Isn’t this Mickey Gingerbread Ornament beautiful? It’s made from the classic Austrian Lubkuchen gingerbread recipe. Each one costs $10. Mickey Gingerbread Ornament Decorated by hand, each cookie is unique and spectacular. You’ll find dozens of colors, textures, and artistic touches! In addition to the Mickey head, a Nutcracker shape is also available. Mickey Gingerbread Ornament These cookies are designed to be ornaments, so they’re thick and sturdy. You *can* eat it if you’d like to, but we don’t recommend it. Mickey Gingerbread Ornament So, if you’re going to use your Mickey Gingerbread Ornament to decorate, get one. They’re beautiful, and your home will smell sooo good. But if you’re looking for a treat to actually eat, we suggest choosing from the dozens of other items available at the Grand Floridian Gingerbread House. Mickey Gingerbread Ornament Last but not least: the S’mores Cookie. These little babies were popular! In fact, they sold out within the first hour of the Gingerbread House being open. It’s not hard to see why: S’mores Cookie Imagine an extra-large, extra-thick chocolate chip cookie (YES THESE ARE TOTALLY JACK-JACK’s COOKIE NUM NUMS!) topped with toasted marshmallows and miniature M&Ms. It’s $5 and Disney Dining Plan snack credit-eligible. S’mores Cookie If you were thinking that sounds amazing, you’re right! The cookie was the perfect combination of chewy and crunchy. The toasted marshmallows were decadently gooey, and the mini M&Ms added a nice crunch. Be warned, though: the marshmallows make this S’mores Cookie especially sticky. (It’s worth it.) S’mores Cookie The S’mores Cookie and Apple-Cinnamon cupcake were amazing. Can’t decide between chocolate, a cookie, and marshmallow? Get the S’mores Cookie. It’s covered from edge to edge with white and blue glittery sprinkles, with three candy snowflakes for added measure. Elsa would totally be down for this cookie. The Gingerbread House in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa opened in its new spot on Wednesday, and we were there to check it out! Grand Floridian Gingerbread House The Gingerbread House is celebrating its 20th year in 2018, and it’s set up in an all-new location! While the Gingerbread House has been built on the marble floors adjacent to the lobby in past years, this year, it’s right in the middle of the Grand Floridian’s lobby. If you’re thinking this is where the resort’s giant Christmas Tree usually goes, you’re right! Grand Floridian Gingerbread House Yes, that’s candy smoke coming from the chimney! The Gingerbread House looks enchanting and smells delicious. You’ll find beautiful details everywhere. Grand Floridian Gingerbread House The Grand Floridian Gingerbread House is constructed onsite by the resort’s chefs each year. It contains 1,050 lbs of honey, 800 lbs of flour, 600 lbs of chocolate, 600 lbs of powdered sugar, 140 pints of egg whites, 35 lbs of spices, and, according to Disney, “tons of Disney Magic and Pixie Dust.” Grand Floridian Gingerbread House The Gingerbread House is covered in 5,089 individual gingerbread shingles. It takes the Grand Floridian pastry team – led by Victoria and Albert’s Master Pastry Chef, Erich Herbitscheck – more than two months and 840 hours to mix, cut, bake, and construct the house and its components. Check out how amazingly detailed these sugar flowers are! Sugar Flower Details Even more exciting? You can buy holiday sweets and treats at the Gingerbread House! Grand Floridian Gingerbread House Find miniature gingerbread houses, peppermint bark, gingerbread shingles, cookies, and chocolates. The Gingerbread House is open daily from 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM until January 1, 2019. Grand Floridian Gingerbread House Since the Grand Floridian Gingerbread House is so popular, it’s a good idea to plan on spending a few minutes in line. We waited about 30 minutes, but we also noticed that the lines got shorter after peak breakfast times, when guests made their way into the parks. Grand Floridian Gingerbread House Parking at the Grand Floridian is usually limited to resort guests this time of year, so if you’re staying on property, plan to use Disney Transportation to get there. If you’re driving, you’ll be able to park in the Magic Kingdom parking lot and take the Monorail. Grand Floridian Gingerbread House If you were wondering if the Grand Floridian will still have their signature Christmas Tree, the answer is yes! This was another exciting week of awards for Disney Parks! On Tuesday, the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) announced that Nemo & Friends SeaRider at Tokyo DisneySea Park will receive a Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement. On this popular, immersive experience, guests board a submersible that “shrinks” to the size of a fish and explore the wondrous world of marine life from the same point of view as Nemo and Dory. The Thea Awards were created by TEA in 1994 to recognize achievement, talent and personal excellence within the themed entertainment industry. The 25th Thea Awards Gala will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the Disneyland Hotel where the actual awards will be presented. But that wasn’t all – last night, the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) honored Disney Parks Live Entertainment and our Merchandise team with Brass Ring Awards: Best Theatrical Production: Beauty and the Beast, Disney Dream Most Creative Multimedia Spectacular: Celebrate! This lovely show, which is a guest-favorite offering and a holiday tradition for many families, served as the inspiration for today’s Disney Doodle. In it, Ashley imagines the vocally gifted Muses from “Hercules” drawn immediately to the show, which features a live choir and orchestra who share songs of the season with guests every evening. “The Muses love any opportunity to sing,” Ashley said. “So it’s easy to imagine them wanting to perform in the Candlelight Processional at Epcot!” View the full article

Earlier this week, Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek shared the first details on the innovative new ride system planned to bring the adventurous “Guardians of the Galaxy”-inspired attraction to life at Epcot. According to Bob, building an adventure this big will require a ride system and ride vehicles unlike anything our guests have experienced before. What guests will encounter can best be described as a one-of-a-kind storytelling coaster that connects the adventure of a storyline with the thrills of a coaster. “On most coasters, the vehicles point straight ahead throughout the ride,” Bob explained. “But on this attraction, each individual cab will be programmed to direct your eye to the story happening around you. That means instead of whizzing by the action, you’ll be fully immersed in the story from the minute you launch.” The attraction will be one of the world’s longest enclosed roller coasters when it opens in Future World at Epcot. Earlier this year, 960 trucks’ worth of concrete poured the foundation of this mammoth attraction, which will be housed inside a building so large that the volume of four Spaceship Earth attractions could fit inside it! As the holidays continue to unfold at Disneyland, so do the eats! Today we have more festive treats coming your way – this time from Award Wieners in Disney California Adventure! Award Wieners Holiday Menu For Holiday time at Award Wieners, they are offering a specialty hot dog and not one, but TWO different funnel cake fries! We couldn’t resist trying dessert first. We were excited to see the Pumpkin Spice Funnel Cake Fries were still on the menu having tried them during Halloween. Pumpkin Spice Funnel Cake Fries These are dusted with pumpkin spice sugar, drizzled with pumpkin spice sauce, and topped with whipped cream. If you are a fan of pumpkin-y desserts, these are certainly a treat we recommend. It’s nice to still find a dash of pumpkin around the park, as a lot of dishes transition to gingerbread and peppermint! Stocking Stuffer Cake Fries Next up, The Stocking Stuffer Funnel Cake Fries! These are churro funnel cake fries, topped with peppermint icing, crushed chocolate creme filled cookies, chocolate candies, crushed peppermint, and whipped topping. The peppermint flavor doesn’t stand out here as much as we wanted, but still very tasty. Basically, it’s the cookies and creme fries from Halloween, dressed up with green icing and red and green M&Ms. Stocking Stuffer Funnel Cake Fries Satisfied with dessert, we were ready for something savory! At Halloween, we tried Award Wiener’s Octoberfest dog. So we had to try their newest offering – the Holiday Beer Cheese Dog! Holiday Beer Cheese Dog The Holiday Beer Cheese Dog is a super-spicy kielbasa sausage topped with caramelized onions, sauerkraut, beer cheese, and green onions. It tasted a lot like the Oktoberfest Dog, however they changed the beer in the beer cheese topping. I love it as much as I did at Halloween! Delicious, flavorful cheese compliments the spicy sausage perfectly. I highly recommend it as a quick lunch or large snack option! Don’t want to miss a holiday treat at Disneyland? Last month we shared some new concept art for the 15-story tower being built at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort — and today we have even MORE news to share! New Coronado Springs Resort Concept Art ©Disney This morning Disney announced the name of the new tower – Gran Destino Tower – and that it will open in July 2019! The Gran Destino Tower will serve as the new main entrance for Coronado Springs with a two-story lobby, and will feature 545 new guest rooms, including 50 suites. Bob Chapek, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Consumer Products announced that guests will be able to access the Disney Skyliner in the fall of 2019! From support towers to Skyliner stations, Disney is gearing up for this new transportation system which will connect Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four Resorts: Art of Animation, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach and the upcoming Disney’s Riviera Resort. Earlier this fall, we shared renderings of the exciting expansion that’s currently underway at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. Just moments ago, Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek unveiled more about the reimagining, including the name of the new 15-story centerpiece of the resort, the Gran Destino Tower. The tower, which will be completed in July 2019, will serve as the new main entrance point for guests visiting the resort, and will add a total of 545 new guest rooms (including 50 suites) to the resort, as well as feature a gorgeous two-story lobby. A themed table-service restaurant is also planned for the top of Gran Destino Tower, which will serve up delicious food and incredible views of the Walt Disney World Resort. An oasis set on the shore of Lago Dorado, the reimagined Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort celebrates the daring spirit of the great Spanish explorers, artists, writers and architects. Throughout the resort, guests will discover a blend of classic Spanish influences, imaginative Disney touches and modern comforts both inside and out. The resort’s more than 1,800 existing rooms have also been fully updated with new fixtures, furnishings and lighting. A second new restaurant is planned to open on an island in the middle of the resort’s 14-acre lake, Lago Dorado, with new walkways stretching across the water, making it convenient no matter where guests stay at the resort. And a fresh color palette will tie the entire resort experience together, blending the new and the newly reimagined.
