  1. Now through November 4, you are invited to bring your friends and family to Disney California Adventure park to experience Plaza de la Familia, our special seasonal festivity celebrating Disney•Pixar’s “Coco” and the everlasting bonds of family. New this year, Miguel joins “A Musical Celebration of Coco.” Presented several times daily, this entertaining street show brings together the traveling Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia. Singing host Mateo is joined by the GRAMMY® Award-winning Mariachi Divas, authentic Folklórico dancers and townspeople from Coco’s Land of the Dead. The performers engage their audience with beloved songs from the film, transporting everyone into the story of Miguel’s fantastical journey as seen in “Coco,” and Miguel himself appears in the form of a whimsical, hand-animated dimensional figure. “A Musical Celebration of Coco” is only part of the fun at Plaza de la Familia. From the iconic Mexican Árbol de la Vida (Tree of Life) photo location to the new craft activity where you can design your own paper alebrije mask of the characters Dante or Pepita, Plaza de la Familia fills the Paradise Gardens area of the park with live entertainment, delicious food, crafts and interactive experiences. You won’t want to miss it! View the full article

  6. As part of Ziploc’s partnership with Disney, the distribution of Ziploc bags at Splash Mountain in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World started this past week. Splash Mountain You know that moment, when you’re ride is just about ready to go down Splash Mountain and you start to think “will my phone be ok?” Well, that’s the impetus for Disney and Ziploc with this new campaign. Cast members are distributing these custom printed Ziploc bags to riders (you don’t have to take one, of course) who need a bag for their phones, glasses, car keys – whatever you want! Splash Mountain Ziploc Bags But there’s been huge debate about this promotion among Disney guests and fans. The bags ARE super cute, and you can take them home and re-use them or keep them as souvenirs. But many Disney fans are mentioning it as counterintuitive that Disney is eliminating single use straws in their parks as well as lids and shopping bags, yet giving out free plastic bags at the ride. What do you think? Let us know in the comments! Note that recycling bins are located at the end of the ride to recycle the bags, and guests are encouraged to recycle or reuse the Ziploc bags. Splash Mountain Ziploc has recently launched a huge partnership with Disney. Ziploc is also the sponsor of the Kidcot Fun Stops in Epcot. Instead of a “flat Duffy” that kiddos color and collect stamps on as they travel around Epcot’s World Showcase, they now get a Ziploc bag that looks like a suitcase complete with handles. Kiddos then get an informational card about each country on one side and a little scene to color on the other side. What do you think about this new partnership? 8. Sitting in the beautiful Walt Disney Theatre aboard the Disney Dream on the final night of our recent Disney Vacation Club Member Cruise – a voyage elevated by the presence of everyone from Pixar Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter to Oscar-, Grammy- and Emmy-winning composer Michael Giacchino – I found myself thinking about a former Member Cruise star: Disney Legend Art Linkletter. Speaking aboard a Member Cruise sailing during the first year of my Disney Vacation Club career, the broadcasting icon reflected on everything from hosting ABC’s coverage of opening day at Disneyland Park to his famous TV interviews of children for “Kids Say the Darndest Things.” Mr. Linkletter came to mind aboard this year’s sailing as I watched Disney Vacation Club Member kids say “the darndest things” on screen during our “Disney on Broadway – Stars Set Sail” show, capping a daylong, Incredible Summer-inspired celebration of heroism in all its forms. Filmed on Castaway Cay earlier in our sailing, these precocious kids shared stories of their own heroes and inspired subsequent musical numbers from our assembled stars (a stellar group that included Ashley Brown, Broadway’s original Mary Poppins; Josh Strickland, Broadway’s original Tarzan; Kissy Simmons, known for her portrayal of Nala in Broadway’s The Lion King and Alton Fitzgerald White, record holder for the most performances in The Lion King as Mufasa). As a little end-of-summer gift from all of us at Disney Vacation Club, I’m pleased to present this quick look at just a few of the very darndest things Member kids told our camera crew when asked about their heroes. Members will reassemble for not one but two Member Cruise voyages in 2019, sailing May 15-20 aboard the Disney Wonder out of San Diego (with stops in San Francisco and Victoria, British Columbia before culminating in Vancouver) and from Oct. 5-12 aboard the Disney Magic out of New York City (with stops in Boston and Bermuda). A limited number of staterooms remain available for those sailings, so call Member Services to book yours. As a part of Membership Extras, an incidental benefit, these member benefits are subject to change, availability or termination and may require a fee. Membership Extras are available with eligible ownership interests. Visit http://disneyvacationclub.com/memextraspolicy for more information. View the full article
  9. When I think of all the magnificent animals I’ve had the chance to encounter in my career, I’m always awestruck by the rhinoceros. As the second largest-land animal on Earth, they are a massive sight to behold – from their horns to their hoofs and thick armored skin – all of it. I feel fortunate to have the chance to be close to these majestic animals but soon you’ll have a chance too. Today, I’m thrilled to announce guests will have a chance to make a real connection with white rhinos at Disney’s Animal Kingdom through an exciting new backstage animal experience called “Up Close with Rhinos.” Starting Nov. 1, this 60-minute guided adventure will give guests a behind-the-scenes look at how our dedicated animal team cares for the white rhinos on Kilimanjaro Safaris and how Disney is helping save endangered rhinos in the wild. As part of this intimate experience, guests may even get a chance to touch a rhino. It is an appreciation like no other, and we hope it will inspire our guests to aid in their conservation. Our keepers are as excited about “Up Close with Rhinos” as I am. Caitlin Miller on our rhino care team told me, “I love talking to guests about how unique each individual rhino’s personality is. I know once guests come and meet the rhinos, they are going to see just how amazing they are and will want to help us secure a future for them.” Rhinos in the wild are found in bush country and open grassy flatlands in Africa and Southeast Asia. They are among the most endangered animals in the world due largely in part to poaching. Disney is proud to support rhino conservation efforts around the world, including those of Sumatran rhinos, which are found only in Indonesia and are critically endangered. To date, the Disney Conservation Fund has provided more than $2 million to support rhino conservation efforts around the world. One tour of “Up Close with Rhinos” will be offered each day. The booking window for the one-hour experience opens Sept. 22, which is World Rhino Day. Guests must be at least 4 years old to participate, and the cost is $40 (plus tax). Discounts are available to select passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members. To make a reservation, call 407-WDW-PLAY. View the full article

Spooky fun and full of delight, the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort have terrifyingly tasty treats, amazing displays and ghostly entertainment, all sure-fire ways to extend the Halloween Time experience, before, during or after a great day at the parks. Enjoy the Spook-tacular Seasonal Decor: In the lobby of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is a “spook-tacular” edible display of Halloween pumpkins. These pumpkins take a ghoulish form with Oogie Boogie, and are built from cereal treats, icing, chocolate, and fondant. See if you can find the 13 Hidden Mickeys throughout the display! Also during Halloween Time, experience ghoulish décor surrounding the Disneyland Hotel and discover the swashbuckler in you at the pirate-themed Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel. The pirates have hoisted the Jolly Roger flag in the lobby, calling all buccaneers for fun at “Pirates Pier”! Exclusive Trick-or-Treating for Hotel Guests: On select afternoons from October 2 through October 31, overnight guests of the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort are invited to drop in for a howling good time and exclusive, complimentary trick-or-treat festivities. Together, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, the Disneyland Hotel, and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel will have a treat map of locations, so little ghosts and goblins (and their parents) can visit all three hotels. The hotels are offering activities such as coloring pages, bat mask decorating and create-your-own pirate hat. Cookie decorating kits are also available for a fee. Hotel guests are encouraged to sign up at the Guest Services desk. Surprise Your Family With an In-Room Pumpkin Bucket: Plan a Halloween-themed surprise with goodies delivered right to your Disneyland Resort hotel room. Today, Disney Youth Education Series announced that savory storytelling and innovative ingredients will come together during an interactive, new Disney Youth Education Series program, “Disney Culinary Arts,” exclusively at Disneyland Resort. During this culinary exploration, students in grades 7 through 12 or enrolled in college can journey backstage through a high-volume kitchen, bakery and quick-service restaurant at Disney California Adventure park. Along the way, students will study the art of presentation; learn the importance of safety, quality and consistency; discover the value of teamwork in the kitchen and uncover relationships between food offerings and the locations they are served in. Applying these learnings, students will then develop their own ideas to add to an existing themed menu. The menu unfolds when students engage with professional chefs through inspiring discussions and immersive demonstrations leading the way for them to uncover their own culinary aspirations. 18. The stars of the Disney Channel original series, “Raven’s Home,” recently visited Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and had a blast soaking up the sun and experiencing some of the water park’s best attractions. Isaac Ryan Brown, Navia Robinson, Jason Maybaum and Sky Katz started their day at Typhoon Lagoon splashing around the wave pool, which is the largest in North America. With waves up to six feet tall, the surf is always up for big kids, teens and adults, while the shallows also offer smaller, gentler waves for the whole family. From there, the cast experienced Mayday Falls, a single-rider inner tube slide that takes guests down rapids and through caves. They also took the plunge down Humunga Kowabunga a near-vertical, enclosed body slide that sends guests hurtling down 214 feet at a 60-degree angle. If you’re looking to experience these thrilling attractions, be sure to visit Typhoon Lagoon during your Disney vacation. With other attractions like Miss Adventure Falls – the longest family raft ride at a Disney Water Parks – and Ketchakiddee Creek – a water play area specifically for little ones under 4 feet tall – Typhoon Lagoon has something for everyone.
