  2. To continue our celebration of the new Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we decided to “PLAY BIG” with an elaborate, one-of-a-kind maze of dominoes you must see to believe. The Toy Story Land-inspired structure of 32,000 dominoes features a series of complex chain-reaction tricks and stunning special effects with classic toys you’ll spot in our new immersive land! The intricate domino creation, which was built freehand inside the Arena at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, also includes beautiful Pixar character domino murals of Buzz Lightyear and Woody. Lead domino artist and popular YouTube star Lily Hevesh, who is also a huge fan of Disney Parks and Toy Story Land, started the chain reaction by rolling the iconic Pixar ball into the first of the dominoes. What took Lily and a team of four other expert domino builders nearly a week to set up at the Sports Complex, toppled in less than five minutes. Watch the mesmerizing video of 32,000 dominoes falling down: In the video, you’ll notice several complicated domino tricks paying tribute to the new immersive land at the Walt Disney World Resort, including the first trick of sending Alien Swirling Saucers toys into a string of dominoes. Other “wow” moments include a Slinky Dog toy propelling a ball through a Slinky toy as well as a domino fall activating a Buzz Lightyear Bubble Blower toy. And as a finale, a large domino wall falls to reveal signs from Toy Story Lands and Disney-Pixar experiences at Disney Parks around the world. Do you recognize any? During the six-day process of setting up 32,000 dominoes, the Disney Parks Blog team joined Lily and the domino builders to see how the magic happens. Check back soon for a special Disney Parks Blog behind-the-scenes look at this amazing Toy Story Land-inspired creation. View the full article

  6. Walt Disney World is changing its ticket structure by moving to date-based pricing that reflects the expected demand on specific days. 9. Disney World will be moving to date-based pricing for theme park tickets starting October 16, 2018. The new system will: Assign each individual calendar day a specific ticket price (each day will reflect a different price based on various factors like crowd levels) Use an interactive calendar for ticket purchasing, and to show guests the highest and lowest ticket prices within a given month or year Offer guests the option to upgrade to a ticket with a “flexible start date” for an added cost. How To Purchase Disney World Tickets Using The New Date-Based Pricing System: Starting October 16th, guests wishing to purchase Disney World tickets will be able to access the new system via DisneyWorld.com or the My Disney Experience app. Guests will be able to search for lowest-priced days to maximize their budgets, and when they’re ready to purchase… Search for lowest-priced days …they’ll be able to choose a start date for their ticket. Choose your start date on the Disney interactive calendar (prices are for example only and do not reflect actual pricing) Once a start date is selected, guests will see the total ticket cost based on that start date. See total ticket cost based on start date (prices do not reflect actual pricing) A date range will also be provided for when the ticket can be used. Tickets do not have to be used on consecutive days, but do have to be used in entirety during the date range provided. Note date range during which you can use ticket (prices shown do not reflect actual pricing) If this system doesn’t do it for you, there IS a way to avoid the changes altogether… but it will cost you! Disney World Date-Based Pricing “Flexible Dates” Option For guests who’d rather not be locked into specific days, a “flexible dates” option is available for an additional fee. This is basically your “keep everything the same as it was before” choice. It allows guests to start using the purchased tickets on any date before December 31, 2019 (in this example below — date will change going forward) and allows for a 14-day window during which to use the ticket after it’s been activated by a first use. So…pretty much the same as the current system. Choose a flexible start day ticket for an added fee Depending on the cost of tickets on the days you want to head to Disney World, there’s a chance the flexible dates option may actually save you money — but that remains to be seen based on exactly how much they end up charging for the flexible dates option, and how much ticket prices vary per day. These prices are always subject to change. Why is Disney World Doing This? According to Disney, “introducing date-based tickets and pricing will allow us to better distribute attendance throughout the year so that we can continue to improve and deliver a great experience.” So, in a nutshell, Disney World is getting too crowded, and making popular days more expensive is the most effective way to incentivize guests to visit during lower capacity times. It makes sense. Crowd levels have been high in Disney World, and spreading those out a bit will make the experience better for those who traditionally visit during busy times. Also, Disney has priced hotel nights and hard-ticket events based on capacity and “seasons” for years — why wouldn’t ticket prices follow suit? Disney World is a business, and it makes sense that they’d follow a supply-and-demand policy for pricing. I’m actually surprised this didn’t happen sooner! However, the new system could make things more financially difficult for families who can only attend during school breaks, which are historically the most popular and crowded seasons — meaning they’ll now be the most expensive seasons as well, for both hotel stays AND tickets. 10. At Walt Disney World Resort, we are constantly looking for new ways to deliver the best experience possible for our guests – from the moment they book their vacation through the very last attraction they visit in the theme parks. With all there is to see and do in our parks, we know guests are increasingly looking for easier ways to plan a vacation with personalized options that fit their individual needs. Beginning Oct. 16 on DisneyWorld.com, guests will be able to access our new online vacation-planning destination and purchase tickets priced by the date of visit. These changes are designed to simplify the booking experience, give guests an enhanced way to purchase theme park tickets and help them more easily plan the Disney vacation of their dreams. The new online vacation-planning destination features park offering overviews, travel tips from Disney Parks Moms Panelists and customized suggestions based on each guest’s personal preferences – helping guests make more informed decisions. When guests are ready to purchase tickets online, they may use an interactive online calendar, which displays different prices based on the dates guests choose to visit and states tickets will need to be used during a specific time period. The calendar also allows guests to quickly see the lowest-priced days within a month. For example, prices may be lower during off-peak travel periods. Check out the video below for a first look at how it works. Once tickets are purchased, guests will be able to continue seamlessly planning their vacation on the website through My Disney Experience, which guides guests through the different phases and steps of personalizing their vacation to make the most of their travel party’s unique interests. Guests can manage their plans through the My Disney Experience mobile app as well, where they will also be able to access the interactive calendar and purchase their tickets on the go. So why are we making these changes? As our parks have increased in popularity, there are more and more guests who wish to experience our world-class attractions. Introducing date-based tickets and pricing will allow us to better distribute attendance throughout the year so that we can continue to improve and deliver a great experience. These updates are designed to help you plan your dream vacation – both now and for years to come. This is an incredibly exciting time at Walt Disney World Resort, which continues to grow and expand with industry-leading immersive lands like Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In addition to these groundbreaking expansions, guests will also have a chance to experience upcoming attractions that take creative storytelling to the next level from the recently announced “Ratatouille” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” attractions at Epcot to a Tron-themed attraction at Magic Kingdom Park, to the first Mickey Mouse-themed attraction with Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway and so much more coming soon. Chocolate Mickey Whoopie Pie The chocolate Mickey whoopie pie has two chocolate cakes shaped like Mickey and dusted with sparkly edible glitter. Inside you’ll find sprinkle-decorated frosting! Chocolate Mickey Whoopie Pie Minnie is a lot more appealing IMO, however. She has the same sprinkled frosting and glitter, but starts with vanilla cake…and has a little icing bow! And to prove it, my fellow cast member friends decided to explore everything that makes the park a #HappyPlace. It was a day of fun, snacks, and (ear) hats! Classic rides were a must-do, of course. They visited Ariel under the sea, wandered through a spellbinding high-seas pirate adventure and took a “hare-raising” adventure down Splash Mountain. Disney Parks After Dark: Día de los Muertos in Frontierland at Disneyland Park – Tonight’s Disney Parks After Dark photography takes us to Frontierland at Disneyland park, where Día de los Muertos has returned to the Zócalo Park area, between Rancho del Zócalo Restaurante and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. 20. Great news! We reported last week that the Epcot Family Play Zone had been shut down and dismantled. But, since it was still on the Times Guide, we promised we’d be watching to see if they reconstructed the kids’ play area later in the festival. Sure enough, it’s back! Though some of the equipment has been changed out, and the sign is different with this incarnation. Family Play Zone at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival We’re not sure why the temporary closure happened or why changes were made, but it’s great to have the play area back for families at the festival! 21. We took a Monorail tour of the Magic Kingdom resorts to find all that’s new for you! We started out in the Contemporary Resort. Hello from the Contemporary What’s New at the Contemporary Resort We let you know earlier about the Latte Art at Contemporary Grounds. If you’re having a latte this is a fun way to add a smile to your cup of coffee. Contemporary Grounds Latte Art You can pair your Latte with some sweet baked goods at one of our favorite quick service locations – Contempo Cafe. We’re SO excited to see that the cupcakes are BACK IN THE BAKERY CASE instead of in the refrigerators! Woo! Apple Cupcake This seasonal Apple Cupcake is so fun looking, and it sounds delicious – an apple cupcake filled with apples and topped with cinnamon buttercream frosting. (This is why we hit the gym after ever Disney trip!) Apple Cupcake The Iridescent cupcake is still on-trend and available here. Iridescent Cupcake It wouldn’t be the Contemporary without the Monorail – or the Monorail Cookies and Cream Cupcake. Dive into this vanilla cupcake with cookies and cream filling and cookies and buttercream frosting — you can see our review here! Monorail Cookies and Cream Cupcake If you’re a chocoholic or worms and dirt are your thing, you’re in luck with this Worms and Dirt Cupcake! This is a chocolate cupcake topped with chocolate ganache, crumbled chocolate cookies and then, of course, the gummy worms! Worms and Dirt Cupcake So many great choices — it’s one of the main reasons I LOVE Contempo Cafe! Contempo Cafe Grab-and-Go Bakery Case On to the Monorail…next stop the Polynesian! What’s New at the Polynesian Village Resort The Tambu Lounge is closed for refurbishment, but in the mean time there are two temporary locations available. One location, by the monorail area, is open primarily in the morning; and one, by ‘Ohana, is open in the evening, with some afternoon crossover. When we were there in the afternoon both temporary locations were open Tambu Lounge Under Refurbishment OK, this might be the cutest refurbishment sign ever – we love the hard hat! Tambu Lounge Under Refurbishment Here’s the “mostly morning” lounge, by the monorail doors. Tambu Lounge Temporary Location Tambu Lounge Temporary Location You can still pick up your drink-in-a-pineapple, the Lapu Lapu, at both locations — plus some favorites from Tambu during the refurbishment. Drink Menu at Tambu Lounge Temporary Location A Kona Beer Flight is available in addition to the menu above. Kona Beer Flight If you’re looking for coffee or baked goods stop at Kona Island Coffee Bar for both — and check out the cute Mickey Shaped Banana Bread there! Mickey Shaped Banana Bread Mickey Shaped Banana Bread Our last stop on the Monorail is the Grand Floridian. What’s New at the Grand Floridian Resort Hello from the Grand Floridian There is some refurbishment in progress at The Summerhouse. Summerhouse Refurbishment Mizner’s Lounge has been working on their menu – they have removed the Citrocos Crab Salad and Warm Chocolate Banana Torte. Those items have been replaced with Tuna Tartare and a Baked Chocolate Cherry Tart. Plus, the updated menu includes a range of allergy-friendly items. Mizners Lounge The award for best looking seasonal cupcake so far goes to Gasparilla Island Grill! This looks like a pumpkin patch! Plus, they got all the best fall flavors in one cupcake — cinnamon spice, pumpkin filling, and maple buttercream — topped off with a mellowcreme pumpkin. Gasparilla Island Seasonal Cupcake On our way on the Monorail we had to stop at Basin White and see what special soaps they were offering for the season. Check these out!
