It’s another day of our quest to try as many of the Halloween Time treats in Disneyland as possible! This stop is at California Adventure’s Award Wieners. Award Wieners This Halloween Time, Award Wieners is offering up some funnel cake fries, Oktoberfest Beer, and an Oktoberfest Dog. Award Wieners Halloween Time Menu Time to see if those funnel cake fries are as good as they look! First up was the Pumpkin Spice Funnel Cake Fries. Pumpkin Spice Funnel Cake Fries These are dusted with pumpkin spice sugar, drizzled with pumpkin spice sauce, and topped with whipped cream. As if one order of any kind of fries isn’t enough – we tried two! The Cookies and Cream Funnel Cake Fries are covered with crushed chocolate cream cookies and a cream-cheesy chocolate sauce (tasted more like an icing/frosting than, say, Hershey’s Syrup), chocolate cream cookie pieces, and whipped cream. Cookies and Cream Funnel Cake Fries Now that our sweet tooth was satisfied (and hey, who doesn’t have dessert first – it is Halloween Time after all!) it was on to the Oktoberfest Dog. Oktoberfest Dog This is a super-spicy kielbasa sausage topped with caramelized onions, sauerkraut, Oktoberfest beer cheese, and green onions. As you can see the bun kind of overwhelmed this – and we personally would have loved more cheese sauce (our love of plastic cheese is well documented) on this as well as some more caramelization on the onions. The spice of the sausage was pretty overwhelming, but the beer cheese sauce stood up to it nicely. I really enjoyed this one and would definitely have planned on getting it again if I wasn’t so full the rest of the week. The next day, Heather and I went back and ordered the filmstrip fries with a side of the beer cheese sauce — heaven. Well, well, well! If you’re missing your Montague it’s time to celebrate, because Earl of Sandwich is BACK in Disneyland! Earl of Sandwich in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney To Re-Open Just announced on Disney Parks Blog, the guest-favorite sandwich shop will be returning in its original location for a limited time. The Full Montague at Earl of Sandwich The shop was originally closed to make way for the construction of a proposed hotel in the Downtown Disney area of Disneyland. Main Entrance of Earl of Sandwich No info on how long “a limited time” might be, but we’re guessing it will be a while. But just in case, head on in for your favorites. We are excited to announce Earl of Sandwich will be opening in its original location for a limited time in Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort. The popular fast-casual restaurant—inspired by John Montagu, the Earl who invented the sandwich in 1762—will be returning soon. Get ready to enjoy all your favorites from their famous hot sandwiches on artisan breads to hand-crafted wraps and a variety of freshly-tossed salads. Watch for more exciting Downtown Disney news this fall as we welcome Salt & Straw scoop shop to the area. In the coming weeks, we will also celebrate the reimagined World of Disney store and the newly-renovated Naples Ristorante e Pizzeria – both of which are still open during renovations. Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Jambo House is home to some of Disney World’s more adventurous dining locations including Jiko – The Cooking Place, Boma – Flavors of Africa, and Victoria Falls Lounge. Plus Uzima Pool is a great place to relax after a day at the parks. Animal Kingdom Lodge Since February this resort has also been home to a test — going cashless. It is not uncommon for Disney to select a limited number of resorts for a test. In the past they introduced the Minnie Vans at a limited number of resorts, started the whole “open your room with your phone” thing at a limited number of resorts, and are currently testing allowing dogs in guest rooms at a limited number of resorts. What does “cashless” mean for you if you are a guest at Animal Kingdom Lodge or dining at one of their locations? Toy Story MagicBand Cashless means accepted payment methods are: MagicBands Credit Cards Debit Cards Disney Gift Cards Disney Reward Redemption Cards Contactless Payment Options including Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay When will cash be accepted? Cash deposits will be accepted at check-in to fund room charging options Cash will continue to be accepted for gratuities by restaurant services, bell services, valet parking attendants and other applicable staff members. Last week, Karen McClintock shared a first look of the gingerbread house inside Haunted Mansion Holiday, a popular Halloween Time tradition at the Disneyland Resort. Rose and Crown Pub and Dining Room Rose & Crown Pub and Dining Room was testing a NEW Vegan Fishless Fish and Chips dish this week! Vegan Fishless Fish and Chips Thanks to our Instagram pal @devonwcormier for giving us a glimpse at the new vegan option! The vegan and fishless fish filets are made by Gardein, and Chef Stephen is reportedly working on creating a Veganaise Tartar Sauce to go with the new dish if it’s successful. We’ve been keeping you updated on the progress of the new Disney Skyliner transportation system set to open next year. It will connect the Art of Animation, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, and Riviera Resorts to Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Disney Skyliner Route Map No firm date has been announced by Disney, but signs of steady progress can be seen along the route with stations at each stop and posts along the route being built. Today, while at Hollywood Studios, we saw an exciting site – a Skyliner Gondola in the Hollywood Studios Station! Fall is right around the corner and it’s time for one of my favorite events of the year, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Magic Kingdom Park is transformed with glowing jack o lanterns, family-friendly frights and grinning ghosts. But when you combine unlimited candy, lively parades, dazzling fireworks, and characters galore it could be a bit overwhelming for preschoolers. My advice for a spooktacular, stress-free night is to plan, pace and embrace the wicked festivities. Here are a few tips for preschool families: 1. Get a game plan. What are the must dos? Is the goal to score candy, watch Mickey’s “Boo-To-You” Parade, ride the attractions, or all of the above? Be aware of times for fireworks, shows, character meet and greets and the parade. Arrive early to get prime viewing for the earlier parade. (To avoid any meltdowns, prep your little one about the haunting headless horseman who leads the parade down Main Street, U.S.A., or just skip that part.) 2. Check the weather. If temperatures are soaring, be prepared to shift gears from that fancy princess gown and heels, to a lightweight costume or Halloween-themed t-shirt paired with a themed light-up necklace instead. The kids may put up a fight, but in the end, they will be comfy and happy! 3. Get a head start. Although 7 p.m. is the official start time for the party, you can actually arrive as early as 4 p.m. with your special event ticket. Venture to favorite attractions, indulge in a yummy candy corn milkshake or ice cream cone, and be among the first inside the party to partake in Halloween fun. 4. Dance the night away. The new Storybook Circus Junior Jam dance party features Disney Junior stars like Vampirina and Doc McStuffins. Kids will love to rock out with their pals and burn off some energy! 5. Indulge in the treats. With more than a dozen trick or treat locations scattered throughout the park it’s tough to monitor the sugar intake. Note that there are healthy treats to behold as well as a dedicated allergy-friendly stop, just in case. (But if you are looking to score a big haul of candy bring your own sack or bucket.) Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party in advance, as space each night is limited.
