Valentine’s Day is HERE, and we’re trying as many specialty treats at Disneyland Resort as we can before they disappear later this month. Rancho del Zocalo, in Disneyland’s Frontierland, has a thematic treat that might raise some eyebrows: a Chocolate Tamale. Chocolate Tamale Yeah, this is exactly what it sounds like: a tamale filled with chocolate-y masa, covered in chocolate sauce, and topped with cherry compote and espresso whipped cream. The combo of chocolate, cherry, and coffee is fine, but the chocolate tamale filling… is not so good. Four out of five tasters gave this a thumbs down. Ralph and Vanellope from Disney’s animated adventure “Ralph Breaks the Internet” have been meeting their fans at Disney Parks since last fall, when their movie debuted in theaters. Starting this week, you can find these best friends in an all-new location at Epcot. The staff of the Imagination Institute is now conducting a new experiment, creating a portal into other dimensions. That portal has opened a window on the internet for Ralph and Vanellope to step through, right into the ImageWorks area of the Imagination! pavilion, where you can meet with them every day. Nope, the latest Ice Cream Scavenger Hunt is due to the release of TWO new Edy’s/Dreyer’s ice cream flavors inspired by the upcoming Toy Story 4 film! Earlier today, Paige O’Hara, the voice of Belle from “Beauty & The Beast,” stopped by the France Pavilion at Epcot to revisit her “tale as old as time” with Belle and Beast for Valentine’s Day. She even got the chance to waltz with Beast, just as her animated counterpart did in the iconic scene in the film. Paige shared that she has very fond memories of creating the film, and says she’s thrilled the film has been a favorite of so many over the years. “When we were doing the film, we all knew it was really special, but we had no idea of the longevity of this movie. It resonates with everybody. It’s about beauty that comes from within!” she said. Paige, who in addition to being a Disney Legend, has been a Disney fine artist for more than a decade, is in town for an appearance at the Epcot International Festival of the Arts, which will take place February 14-18, from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. daily. There sure is a whole lotta construction happening in the Magic Kingdom these days! While it’s not quite as intrusive as all of the work happening in Disneyland, we’re starting to feel a little claustrophobic with all these walls going up! Walls Up Around Casey Jr Splash ‘N’ Soak Station The kids’ water play area in Storybook Circus is getting a few updates. The interactive area features Casey Jr. – the train from the classic Dumbo film – along with a monkey, elephant, and camel that spray water. Walls Up Around Casey Jr Splash ‘N’ Soak Station It is scheduled to reopen on March 25, 2019 – here’s hoping it doesn’t get too hot in the Sunshine State before then! Casey Jr Splash ‘N’ Soak Station Will Be Back on Track Soon! We also spotted some construction walls up around the Castle Couture shop. Castle Couture Refurbishment It seems like the shop is just getting a bit of a facelift. It’s still open during construction, so no worries if you were planning on picking up a princess outfit on your next visit to the Magic Kingdom! Castle Couture Refurbishment Everyone’s favorite crane is still hanging around! The crane is used to take down the holiday Dream Lights on Cinderella Castle, so we expect to see it gone soon. The Castle Crane is Still Hanging Around Finally, we stopped by Tomorrowland to check up on the progress of that Tron attraction moving in next to Space Mountain! Tron Attraction Construction The coaster-style attraction, which is based on the TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai Disneyland, is a HUGE construction project resulting in the temporary closure of TWO Magic Kingdom attractions: The Walt Disney World Railroad and Tomorrowland Speedway. Tomorrowland Speedway Closed for Tron Attraction Construction We spotted the Tomorrowland Speedway cars parked and up on lifts for some down-time refurbishments. The Tomorrowland Speedway is expected to reopen this summer. There’s no word on when The Walt Disney World Railroad will reopen just yet. Tomorrowland Speedway Closed for Tron Attraction Construction Over in Storybook Circus we were able to see a different view of the construction — including a better look what that crane is up to. Walt Disney World guests looking to pick up the adorable and festive Mickey Sipper last week were disappointed to discover that it was sold out at locations in Magic Kingdom. If you recall, this expressive vessel arrived on the scene to celebrate Mickey’s 90th birthday back in November, and it stuck around for the celebration into the new year! The good: the Mickey Sipper is back! We found it in Cosmic Ray’s! But the bad news: it’s now more expensive! From Mickey’s birthday until the Sipper sold out last week, it was $13.99. This still pales in comparison to the price for the same Mickey Sipper at Disneyland where it’s $24.99 (!!), but we wanted you to know you’ll need to shell out a couple more bucks to take Mickey home from Disney World now! A delivery charge, gratuity and sales tax will be applied to each order as a Private Dining Amenity. For those staying at Aulani Resort, be on the lookout as Chef Carolyn is also working on some special Valentine’s dessert offerings that will be available at Ulu Cafe! Yum! And if you are traveling with your keiki, ages 3-12, who would also like to enjoy a special holiday offering, at Aunty’s Beach House we are offering an enhanced, exclusive program to celebrate Valentine’s Day! The Hawaiian word for love is aloha — and keiki can share in the aloha of Valentine’s Day at “Celebrate Aloha at Aunty’s Beach House” with Valentine’s crafts, activities and our magical Disney Friends. This special program also includes a keepsake photo with these magical Disney Friends. The special program is offered Feb. 15, 16, 19, 22 and 23 from 6-7 p.m. HST, with check-in 30 minutes prior to the start of the program. Reservations to take part in this offering may be made by calling Guest Services. And as with any use of this amazing children’s club, please be sure your child is registered to attend Aunty’s Beach House at least 48 hours in advance.
