  4. Whether they’re designing the latest attractions or leading entire Parks, women around the world are using their unique talents to make Disney magic for guests every day. For Aimée Rivera, a 23-year culinary veteran and Chef de Cuisine at Walt Disney World Resort, creating magical experiences means crafting delectable, award-winning fine dining experiences that defy guest expectations. A native of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, Aimée moved to the United States in 1991 to pursue her educational journey with the dream of becoming a chef. She was inspired by her mother – her personal culinary idol – to learn as much as she could about food and cooking to bring people happiness, just as her mother had always done. “She could cook without recipes or guidance – she just had the palate. No dish was too complicated, no culinary task too complicated, you could tell she really loved it,” Aimée shared. Aimée pursued culinary arts at Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island, and immediately following school, entered the culinary industry. From working in Atlanta, Georgia just as the city was getting excited for the 1996 Summer Olympics, to the Woodlands Resort & Inn, a AAA 5 Diamond resort in South Carolina, Aimee built an impressive culinary career before accepting a sous chef role at Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in 2002. Once at Disney, Aimée worked her way up to a Chef position and now in her current role as Chef de Cuisine, she oversees important restaurant aspects like menu development and scheduling, budgeting and quality control. In Aimée’s tenure, she’s helped Victoria & Albert’s achieve impressive accolades including the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Award and the prestigious AAA Five Diamond Award for the restaurant’s unique and notable dining experience of combining classic Victorian elegance with haute American cuisine in a refined atmosphere. “At Victoria & Albert’s we combine classic with modern. I love aspects of both styles,” she says. “Past travels, literature and people in the industry have helped create that experience.” Aimee says that her coworkers would describe her as energetic, passionate and detail-oriented – all traits that help her keep up with her busy days of creating delicious dishes in an unforgettable setting. “Food & Beverage is a challenging industry that is very demanding,” she notes. “You need to be firm in what you believe and work with integrity.” It’s an industry that Aimée can’t imagine not being a part of. But what’s her top reason she’s continues to be a chef? “I love food. Period.” Here at Disney, we’re proud of how Aimee and all of our cast members put their passions to work to bring magical guests experiences to life. Stay tuned as this series continues with more remarkable stories of the #WomenBehindtheMagic! View the full article
  5. Hey, pals! We’re back with another construction update! Yesterday, we showed you some Disney Skyliner construction updates. Riviera Resort But, now it’s time to check out the construction progress on Disney’s Riviera Resort. Disney’s Riviera Resort is the newest Disney Vacation Club Resort. It will also be the very FIRST Moderate Disney Vacation Club Resort. It is slated to open this winter on December 16th, which is just a few days after the Rise of the Resistance attraction is set to open at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. ©Disney The last time we were here, we noticed some work at the pool, on the exterior, and at the Skyliner Station. And while we still saw ongoing work in these areas during this visit, progress was evident! So, let’s take a look at that progress together! When we were visiting, they were testing the exterior lights near the pool. The construction in the area was still pretty heavy. As you can see, a massive amount of work still needs to be done in terms of landscaping. Riviera Resort The rocks have been painted a reddish-brown color on the pool’s slide. We’re really excited to see how this area turns out once it’s completed. Riviera Resort Now, a ton of progress has been made on the exterior of the building. We noticed that red awnings had been added to some of the windows. Riviera Resort We also spotted a new sign. This sign features two R’s to symbolize the name Riviera Resort. 19. We often hear from kids (teens, tweens and younger children) that they were the ones who persuaded their parents to choose a Disney cruise for family vacation. Most of the time, mom and dad don’t need much convincing – just a slight nudge to know you are interested. But for those of you who have to work a little bit harder to get your parents to book your dream vacation with Disney Cruise Line, here’s a five-step plan that’s sure to entice them… Step 1: Highlight the benefits of traveling as a family. “Quality time,” “family adventures” and “memories that last a lifetime” are all key phrases you’ll want to mention. Your parents won’t be able to resist the thought of your family having a blast together for several days straight. Tell them about some of the things families can do together on a Disney cruise, like watching Broadway-caliber shows, dancing at deck parties and competing in family game shows. Step 2: Talk about all that’s included. Gourmet meals that mom and dad don’t have to cook. A stateroom hostess that makes your bed and cleans your room every day. Endless entertainment so no one ever says “I’m bored.” And none of it will cost them a dime more than planned (unless of course they want to splurge on a spa treatment or fancy dinner for just the two of them). Which brings me to the next step… Step 3: Plan the perfect date just for them. Your parents already know that you will love a Disney cruise. But what about them? Based on what they like to do, create an itinerary for an afternoon or evening where they can spend time together one-on-one. Some ideas of things to include are a couples massage at Senses Spa, a romantic dinner at Palo, live music in the adult nighttime district and a visit to Serenity Bay, the adult-exclusive beach on Castaway Cay. Step 4: Point out what you’re looking forward to doing. No matter your age, seeing you happy makes your parents happy. Explain how Disney has the most extensive youth spaces of any cruise line, with the longest operating hours at sea, supervised by trained counselors – all included in the price of the cruise. While they enjoy time together, you may be training with Super Heroes, playing games with new friends or showing off your skills in a karaoke contest. Step 5: Suggest which cruise would be the best fit for your family. Do you all enjoy going to the beach? Pick a tropical escape that visits our private island, Castaway Cay. Are outdoor adventures more of your thing? A summer cruise to Alaska is right for you. Does dad love Star Wars? A cruise with Star Wars Day at Sea is sure to pique his interest. Is mom a history buff? A European voyage is calling her name. Once they show interest, together you can check out disneycruise.com to learn more about what a Disney cruise entails – and to book a family vacation you’ll never forget! View the full article

  22. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been open in Disneyland for a while and it will officially open in Hollywood Studios on August 29th — though we’ve already been able to check out Oga’s Cantina, Boozy Blue and Green Milk, and new drinks at Docking Bay 7 and Ronto Roasters. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World But now, you can learn how to create the food from the planet of Batuu from your very own home with the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge cookbook! We have shared a bit of information about this cookbook in the past, so you can read more about it here. But, today we’re excited to share the concept art for the cookbook’s front cover. Disney describes the food of Black Spire Outpost as “farm to table” whole food rooted in deep cooking traditions that the locals have passed down through generations. ©Insight Editions Written from the perspective of Strono “Cookie” Tuggs, who is the head of Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo and was the “former head chef at Maz Kanata’s castle on Takodana,” the all-new cookbook will be your go-to source if you’re looking to recreate the meals and treats from Galaxy’s Edge. According to Disney, “after his time on Takodana, Tuggs went on to operate a food freighter (known as “Tugg’s Grib” – a ‘traveling diner for diners traveling’) serving countless planets from across the galaxy.” And with this, Tuggs has gained a ton of knowledge on the galaxy’s culinary must-haves. And luckily, the cookbook should be perfect for chefs with a range of cooking skill levels. And now, let’s check out the cookbook’s front cover! It reads, “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook.” And the food on the cover looks like it came straight from Batuu! We can’t wait to see what interesting recipes this cookbook has — can you? ©Disney It will be published by Insight Editions and is coauthored by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak. You can expect to find it at Barnes and Noble, and on Amazon, and Indie Bound this November. If you’d like to preorder the book, you may do so here! 24. Things are always changing around the Disney Parks! After all, Walt Disney himself said that Disneyland would never be finished and that they must “Keep Moving Forward.” Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland And change is certainly the name of the game in 2019! All kinds of things are happening in Disney World and Disneyland that have NEVER. HAPPENED. BEFORE. — from new entertainment, new technology, and new food! Here are 14 Things Disney’s Doing for the First Time in 2019: 1. Serving Alcohol in Disneyland For the first time EVER, alcohol is available to the general public in Disneyland Park. Previously, alcohol was only served at the very-exclusive Club 33, but now, thanks to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, anyone that ventures into Oga’s Cantina can purchase a boozy libation. (Pending you’re of age, of course.) Oga’s Cantina But — you’re not allowed to take anything outside of the Cantina, and drinks are limited to 2 per I.D., so it’t not a free-for-all. Check out our full review of Oga’s Cantina here! 2. Smoking Is Banned Inside the Disney Parks For the first time EVER, smoking has been banned inside the Disney parks. Previously, smoking was allowed in designated areas inside the parks. But beginning May 1, 2019, all Smoking areas were moved outside the parks’ main entrances. ©Disney You can read all the details of Disney’s smoking ban here! 3. New Fireworks at Disney World Hard-Ticket Holiday Parties Walt Disney World is debuting brand NEW Fireworks Spectaculars at BOTH Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! Both shows promise to incorporate projections on the castle, new soundtracks, and favorite characters! Disney’s Not-So-Scary Spooktacular Concept Art Additionally, both parties will feature Attractions Overlays for the Holiday. We aren’t exactly sure how Space Mountain will be a Christmas attraction, but we can’t wait to find out! 4. Disneyland’s Oogie Boogie Bash Magic Kingdom isn’t the only park getting new Halloween fun! Oogie Boogie Bash — A Disney Halloween Party ©Disney The all-new Oogie Boogie Bash is coming to Disney California Adventure Park! The Bash will feature trick-or-treating, a “Frightfully Fun Parade,” and an all-new “Villainous” Version of World of Color! See our first look and preview of the Oogie Boogie Bash here! Get all the details, including how to buy tickets, right here! 5. The NBA Experience Is Opening Coming to Disney Springs this month is the all-new NBA Experience! The NBA Experience will be located in the former home of Disney-quest, and will be host to several different basketball themed activities. NBA Experience Store B-ball fans can learn how to “execute the perfect Slam Dunk,” improve their jump shot, access a team locker room, and MORE! The NBA Experience opens on August 12 — find out where to get tickets and other key details here! 6. Ice Ban Smoking wasn’t the only thing banned this year — ice also made the list. This may seem like a weird policy upon first hearing it, but it’s designed for folks bringing in their own coolers. ©Disney As a security measure, all bags and coolers must be thoroughly inspected, which means rummaging through the entire cooler full of ice. This was an incredibly lengthy process when people are already anxious to get into the park, so Disney decided to make the whole thing easier and just ban loose ice all together. We recommend using re-freezable ice packs to keep your items cold! You can read more about the new park policies here! 7. Reservations (and Time Limits) Just to Get into a Land For the first time EVER, Disney required guests to get a reservation just to simply get into a land — not for dining, not for an attraction — just to actually step foot into a land. Storm Troopers Patrolling Galaxy’s Edge For the first few weeks of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland, the land was accessible by reservations only. And not only that — there was a time limit of four hours once they entered the land. The reservation system did appear to help with crowds, however they are not using it in Walt Disney World when their Galaxy’s Edge opens on August 29. May the force be with anyone attempting to go in the first days of it opening! 8. EXTRA Extra Magic Hours Typically one to two parks a day have Extra Magic Hours — those special extra hours of park opening only available to Disney resort hotel guests — at Walt Disney World. But starting this fall, THREE of the Disney World theme parks will be hosting Extra Magic Hours EVERY DAY. Extra Extra Magic Hours at Disney World Why? Well, as we just noted there is no reservation system at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, so it’s a pretty safe guess that the EXTRA Extra Magic Hours are there to help alleviate the crowds. As of now, the Extra Hours are from September 2 – November 2. You can get all the details on the Extra Extra Magic Hours here! 9. Signature Celebration Package at Cinderella’s Royal Table An all new dining package was announced at Cinderella’s Royal Table! The Signature Celebration Package starts this August, and includes a three-part magical experience! Cinderella’s Royal Table Guests will have the chance to dine with the princesses as they enjoy dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table, view Magic Kingdom’s Happily Ever After Fireworks from reserved viewing, and end the night with an exclusive dessert party! We have all of the details, including cost and how to book, here! 10. Disney Skyliner Is Opening The all-new Disney Skyliner opens this fall on September 29. This brand new transportation system will connect Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four Disney Resorts (Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach Resort, and the all-new Riviera Resort). Disney Skyliner Gondola The gondolas can seat up to 10 guests and are brightly colored, or donned with characters! Check out a LOT of different character Gondolas here! 11. Stroller Size Restrictions are in Place Along with the banning of ice and smoking, large strollers and wagons were also added to the no-no list for the Disney parks. The rationale being that the parks are crowded, and it’s a safety hazard to be pulling a large wagon behind you (or even pushing it in front of you). Animal Kingdom Test Strollers Disney also began testing various new types of strollers available for rent at the parks. Up until now, the hard plastic strollers (in doubles or singles) were the only strollers available. But with a recent test at Animal Kingdom, Disney is looking at expanding to more comfortable varieties. Learn more about the Stroller Rental Test here! 12. Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival is a Record-Breaking Length The Epcot International Food and Wine Festival is running for a RECORD 87 Days this fall! Epcot Food and Wine Festival The Festival kicks off on August 29, 2019, and ends on November 23, 2019. That means more time than ever to enjoy delicious food, wines, brews, and musical acts! You can check out the FULL MENUS with PHOTOS for ALL of the Food and Wine Festival Booths here! 13. Mobile-Order Is Offered at Disney Resorts Have you tried Mobile-order yet? It is probably one of our FAVORITE things! Mobile-order allows you to order and pay for food at various Quick Service Locations using your My Disney Experience app. You then skip the line when you arrive at the restaurant and can get straight to eating! The Mara on Mobile Order But up until this year, Mobile Order was only available in the parks. This year, seven Disney World Resort restaurants were added, including The Mara at Animal Kingdom Lodge, Everything POP! at Pop Century, and Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary. To learn more about using Mobile-order, including step-by-step instructions, click here! 14. Epcot Forever Will Debut This fall, Illuminations: Reflections of Earth will shoot off its last firework at Epcot. The nighttime spectacular has been an incredibly popular entertainment offering for 20 years, and the final show is on September 30, 2019. Epcot Forever Artist Concept Premiering the next day is “Epcot Forever,” an all new spectacular honoring the magic and history of Epcot.
