Today we’re kicking off another week on the Disney Parks Blog with a Disney Doodle by artist Ashley Taylor that features one of Ashley’s personal favorite Disney characters – Megara from “Hercules.” Here, she’s depicted Megara taking a spin on Prince Charming Regal Carrousel in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park. Why that attraction? “Megara is afraid of heights, so it’s easy to imagine her enjoying a stable, grounded ride like the carousel!” Ashley said. View the full article

Good Morning From Harambe Market at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Blogs
We’re starting off another week on the Disney Parks Blog with a lovely sunrise image snapped in the Africa section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Here, Harambe Market serves up soulful street food and fun photo ops. Once the park opens for the day, guests can pass through this area for some African-inspired fare. Thanks to Disney Photographer Matt Stroshane for the photograph. View the full article -
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened with a bang at Disneyland Park on May 31, and the Disney World version blasts off in just a matter of weeks on August 29. And with so much to experience in this immersive new land, we’re taking a look at seven things — big and small! — that you CAN’T miss when you visit Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu! Stormtroopers and Kylo Ren on stage at Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland Click here to visit our Galaxy’s Edge main page where we’ve collected details and pics from Galaxy’s Edge! Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run For the Galaxy’s Edge grand openings, only one of the two major rides has been ready to roll: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. (Rise of the Resistance will open in phase two — more on that below!) But Millennium Falcon is a blast, and you’ll want to be sure to take your turn at the controls! Inside the Millennium Falcon Cockpit That’s because Smugglers Run puts guests inside the Millennium Falcon to pilot the iconic ship through a variety of obstacles. But Smugglers Run isn’t over when it’s over, because the interactive technology in all of Galaxy’s Edge is supposed to recognize each guest’s performance on the ride as they continue to explore the Outpost and provide personalized experiences that reflect that performance. (We didn’t find this technology to be particularly effective in the early days of Galaxy’s Edge, but we’re excited to see how it plays out over time!) Millennium Falcon Simulator See our Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Review and TIPS here! On top of this technology, Disney has imagineered a next-level audio animatronic to interact with guests before the ride. It’s Hondo Ohnaka, and he looks amazing! Hondo Ohnaka Yeah, all in all, you can’t miss Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Resistance to this fact is futile. New Eats You might be traveling to the planet Batuu, but you’ll still need to fuel up like a basic Traveler. And lucky for us, there are several new food and beverage experiences in Black Spire Outpost! We were surprised and intrigued by Oga’s Cantina, where loads of creative drinks (alcoholic and non!) are a supernova of cool. Click here for our full review of Disneyland’s Oga’s Cantina! Oga’s Cantina Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo is the place to go for quick service eats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu here includes carnivorous and vegetarian options. The Felucian Garden Spread and Ithorian Garden Loaf (currently not listed for Walt Disney World) are entirely plant-based, and they are some of the more memorable (for a good reason!) dishes here. Felucian Garden Spread Of the meat options, we enjoyed the Fried Endorian Tip Yip and the Braised Shaak Roast was a little too vinegary for us. Overall, we were a little disappointed by some of the components of the dishes at Docking Bay, but we had a good time trying all of the dishes — and there are some winners that make it a must-do! Click here to see our full review! Kids’ Menu Fried Endorian Tip Yip If you need to eat on the go, Ronto Roasters might be more your speed. The Ronto Wrap is the signature here (see what we liked about it here!), and the menu includes a few other quick service eats and specialty non-alcoholic drinks. You CAN NOT MISS the Ronto Breakfast Wrap here, though — probably our favorite thing to eat on Batuu! Ronto Morning Wrap If you’re just in the mood for a portable snack, Kat Saka’s Kettle serves up flavored popcorn in a sweet/salty/spicy combo called Outpost Mix. And of course you need to try Blue Milk (or Green!). The Milk Stand serves up both in non-dairy concoctions that we found to be a little…unappetizing. But if you’re a Star Wars fan, you’ve just gotta try them anyway. Green Milk and Blue Milk Check out our Blue and Green Milk Hack here…it helps! Exciting New Interactive Technology Galaxy’s Edge promised to be a brand new frontier for interactive technology at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Much of this revolves around the Play Disney Parks app, which connects guests to the world of Star Wars in ways never before experienced. The app transforms your smartphone into a Data Pad that translates writing on signs and buildings throughout the land and lets you intercept and decode communications that are part of the atmosphere of the land (including transmissions you hear around you!). Translate Tool in action My favorite part was hacking the Millennium Falcon!!! See how Play Disney Parks takes technology to the next level in Galaxy’s Edge here! All. Those. Details. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge’s design was described by Disney as “mak[ing] the land itself a featured attraction,” and that means details, details, details! Before Batuu, we already knew that Disney could take the worlds of film and transform them into real places where we can walk, talk, and enjoy the magic. (Toy Story Land, Cars Land, and Pandora all pop to mind!) But Galaxy’s Edge is an entirely new level of immersion where everything from the hues of the buildings to the droid tracks in the pathways, from seemingly handmade toys to duel-ready lightsabers, from bullet holes in walls to the massive Millennium Falcon blend seamlessly to transport guests to another planet. Galaxy’s Edge is all about the details! So while you’re sipping on Blue Milk, don’t forget to drink in the details around you — including the multi-sensory ones! Galaxy’s Edge was created to appeal to all the senses with intergalactic communications, the sound of starfighters in the air, and a twist on the familiar everywhere you look! Entering Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance When phase two of Galaxy’s Edge opens (December 5, 2019, at Walt Disney World and January 17, 2020, at Disneyland Resort), Rise of the Resistance will become THE hot attraction on both coasts. This ride is described as combining multiple ride experiences into one epic experience — so epic that it won’t be completed when the lands first open. Entrance to Rise of the Resistance But when it does: don’t miss it! We assembled all the details that have come out so far. Click here to read all about why Rise of the Resistance is going to blow.our.minds! But just to whet your appetite, we’ll say this: there will be Storm Troopers, jail cells, Kylo Ren, and dramatic escapes! New Toys and Souvenirs It’s nearly impossible to return home from a Disney Parks vacation without a few souvenirs in tow, and Galaxy’s Edge brings a brand new, extensive array of goodies to the shelves! Creature Stall offers intergalactic pets for you to take home, and you can build your own astromech droid at Droid Depot. Select your Droid parts Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities is packed with collectibles and relics (including legacy lightsaber hilts and holocrons!), while Black Spire Outfitters helps you look the part. And of course: there are toys — and not the shiny and glittery toys you might expect in a theme park. These ones appear handmade and a little more Batuuan. The Toydarian Toyshop is a guest favorite! Toydarian Toymaker So in between alllll those new attractions, details, drinks, and eats, make some time to browse the creative wares (and the stores in which you find them, which are creative and full of fun film franchise details!). Character Meet and Greets Characters are an integral part of the Disney Parks experiences, but Galaxy’s Edge takes this a step further. Rather than populating static meet-and-greet locations, characters in Black Spire Outpost are part of the atmosphere. Guests see characters like Chewbacca, Kylo Ren, Rey, and Stormtroopers out and about in the land. Chewbacca This means that meeting characters is a more organic part of this immersive land. Keep your eyes peeled for characters who are part of the ‘everyday’ life of Black Spire Outpost — like Chewie ‘repairing’ strollers! Are you planning a trip to Batuu this year? What are you most looking forward to exploring? Share with us in the comments! Growing up, many of us had a special toy we loved to sleep with at night. Main Street Emporium While we think all Disney toys are super lovable, these new plush toys in Disney World are so adorable (and soft!!) that we want to cuddle up with one and take a relaxing nap. Disney Dream Friends have drifted off onto the shelves of Magic Kingdom‘s Emporium. You may have already seen Mickey, Minnie, and Simba, but now some others have joined the group! Disney Dream Friends Now you can also nuzzle against Pluto the Dog before falling asleep. Pluto Dream Friend If you like lullabies, sing “Baby Mine” to Dumbo as you rest your eyes. Dumbo Dream Plush You can even snuggle against Stitch and Angel after saying goodnight. Angel Dream Friend Stitch Dream Friend If you’re getting sleepy just thinking about curling up with a Disney Dream Friend, you can get one now for $34.99. Sweet dreams, everyone! Usually, we have to try and make that difficult meal-time decision: pizza or burgers? D-Luxe Burger At Disney Springs, you don’t have to pick! You can have both in the newest savory, saucy combination sliding into Disney World. The Pepperoni Pizza Burger is now cooking at D-Luxe Burger! (Why didn’t somebody think of this sooner?!) The Pepperoni Pizza Burger Sign The beef patty is layered with lettuce, pomodoro sauce, artisan pepperoni, and fried mozzarella, placed between two soft buns with a sun dried tomato resting on top. Being both huge pizza and burger fans, we went in to take a bite with high hopes. The Pepperoni Pizza Burger And…we liked it, but we think that there are other, better burgers at D-Luxe. However, we do have to give them props for tackling an interesting twist! The fried mozzarella on this burger was excellent. The cheese pulled apart well and mixed with the juiciness of the actual burger. It fit with the taste of the slightly sweet pomodoro sauce, although the bun was a bit soggy afterwards. While the pepperoni was nice, it disappointingly got lost in the other flavors. Fried Mozzarella, Pomodoro Sauce, and Pepperoni! The winner, however, was the sun-dried tomato. It added an extra burst of flavor as you bit into the burger. We wanted to add more tomatoes on top after tasting it!! Sun-Dried Tomato Even though it just tastes like a burger with pizza toppings, we still think this would be a nice meal to share with a friend (because the portion is fit for two!) for $13.49. The Newest Unique Burger On D-Luxe’s Menu Now the question is: pizza, burger, or pizza burger?? Have you tried the Pepperoni Pizza Burger at D-Luke Burger? Let us know in the comments below! Get your party hats and some streamers, because we’re about to have a welcome home party!! Cosmic Ray’s Sign There has been a lot of construction going on in Disney World currently, especially the Magic Kingdom. With the Cinderella Castle Walkway and the Tron Coaster under construction, we weren’t surprised to see that Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe was getting refurbished. However, our favorite DJ went missing in the process. But, we have the best news… Sonny Eclipse is back, baby!! And, he’s ready to roll out some tunes for all the guests in Tomorrowland. Sonny Eclipse’s Stage Sonny can’t help but be happy, since he’s back onstage for everyone to see. After all, he’s been performing in Magic Kingdom since 1995. And in case you’re not familiar with our favorite out-of-this-world entertainer, he traveled from Yew Nork City on Planet Zork to play the keys on his Astro-Organ for the humans visiting Disney World. He’s a pretty out-of-this world DJ, if we say so ourselves! Sonny Looking At His Adoring Fans Adults, kids, and aliens alike love to get on the dance floor and groove to his 8 original songs, including “Planetary Boogie” and “Gravity Blues.” Even though his 27 minute set happens multiple times a day, we could listen to him sing and joke around for hours. He Gave Us A Little Wave! We had to let him know what huge fans we are, and just look at that smile he gave us!! We missed you, Sonny! Welcome back! Have you gone to visit Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Ray’s yet? Let us know in the comments below! Between Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Epcot’s huge transformation (and so much more), it’s safe to say the Disney theme parks are going through some changes. Amidst these, we have to say goodbye to some well-loved attractions, dining locations, and treats (whether for a temporary time or for good). But don’t worry, there’s still time to enjoy these experiences! Magic Kingdom Today we’re reminding you of 10 Disney rides and attractions you’ll want to see before they close. So grab your hankies and your plane tickets, my friends! It’s time to celebrate some last hurrahs! Walt Disney World 1. IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth Disney World’s IllumiNations nighttime spectacular first debuted on October 1, 1999, and has become an Epcot park staple. The show is scheduled to hold its last performance on September 30th, 2019 before it is replaced by the temporary show titled Epcot Forever on October 1st. Epcot’s permanent nighttime show is still in development and is expected in 2020. IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth Epcot Forever Concept Art While we’re excited to see the new fireworks show, we’re definitely a bit sad about IllumiNations’ looming departure. If you love IllumiNations as much as we do, be sure to check out the Farewell IllumiNations merchandise line! We especially love these adorable Minnie ears! Farewell IllumiNations Ears If you’ll be in Disney World sometime before September ends, don’t miss seeing IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth one last time! 2. Beaches and Cream Soda Shoppe Beaches and Cream is a favorite of many Disney World guests. Located in Disney’s Beach Club Resort, this diner is famous for serving up giant sundaes like the iconic Kitchen Sink among several comfort food classics. Kitchen Sink and Beaches and Cream The restaurant is currently scheduled to close on August 26th, 2019, but that’s subject to change at any time! Accordingly to Disney World’s website, Beaches and Cream will be closed for refurbishment “through winter 2019.” We don’t have an official reopening date yet, but stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for more updates! 3. Club Cool Club Cool is one of MANY Epcot locations and attractions affected by Epcot’s massive transformation. If you don’t know much about Club Cool, this Epcot spot is where you can get FREE samples of Coca-Cola soda from around the world (including Italy’s notorious Beverly drink)! According to Disney, “Club Cool will close on September 8, 2019. Club Cool will reopen in a new capacity at a future merchandise location.” Hmm… New Flavors at Club Cool We don’t know what Club Cool will become when it reopens, so be sure to stop by before September 8th to get one last slug of your favorite flavor (BIBO OF COURSE)! Find out what else will be affected by Epcot’s transformation! 4. Blizzard Beach Water park lovers, this one’s for you! Disney World’s two water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, close periodically for seasonal maintenance. This fall, Blizzard Beach is slated to close its gates for a bit longer than usual. ©Disney According to Disney, the park is scheduled to undergo refurbishment from September 8th through December 31st. Blizzard Beach Refurbishment Blizzard Beach Refurbishment We’re glad Typhoon Lagoon will remain open during this refurbishment; but get yourself on over to Blizzard Beach for one last snowball fight before they close early! 5. Electric Umbrella In addition to Club Cool, another location affected by Epcot’s transformation is none other than Electric Umbrella, located in the Future World section of the park. Electric Umbrella serves up Quick Service meals such as the recent standout Brisket Sandwich. Electric Umbrella According to Disney World’s website, the dining location will close its doors this winter. No availability is listed for the restaurant beginning on November 24th, 2019. We’ll be sure to keep you updated with more details as we have them! Electric Umbrella Restaurant Page Read our full review of Electric Umbrella here! 6. Guardians of the Galaxy — Awesome Mix Live! With the end of the summer season will come the end of Guardians of the Galaxy — Awesome Mix Live! The show returned to Epcot’s American Gardens Theatre, where it will hold performances through August 18th, 2019. If you’re a big fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, carve out some time to see this show! Guardians of the Galaxy — Awesome Mix Live! Check out our full review of Guardians of the Galaxy — Awesome Mix Live! 7. Mickey and Minnie Waffle Sundae Mickey and Minnie’s Surprise Celebration will conclude its run in Magic Kingdom on September 30th of this year. An adorable treat from the lengthy celebration is the Mickey and Minnie Waffle Sundae from Sleepy Hollow! Mickey and Minnie Waffle Sundae Now, we aren’t sure whether this dessert will go away when the Surprise Celebration ends, but we want you to be prepared in case it does! Disney has stated that the specialty desserts and dishes that debuted for the Celebration would be leaving their posts on the 30th, so go grab your Minnie waffle while you still can! 8. Key Lime Pie on a Stick In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we’ve enjoyed An Incredible Celebration this year! The celebration introduced Neighborhood Bakery, which brought us two super cool snacks — Num Num Cookies and Key Lime Pie on a Stick. Key Lime Pie on a Stick An Incredible Celebration will conclude September 30th, 2019, and we aren’t sure if these treats will stick around. Be sure to try them before September ends! Disneyland Resort 9. Soarin’ Over California In case you missed it, Soarin’ Over California is BACK in Disney California Adventure for a limited time! The ride has replaced Soarin’ Around the World in the Grizzly Peak section of the park. Soarin’ Over California Originally, the attraction was supposed to return for only the month of June, but due to guest feedback, Soarin’ Over California’s stay has been extended through August 31st, 2019! If you’re visiting Disney California Adventure between now and the end of August, head over to Grizzly Peak for a chance to float over the picturesque California scenery (and get ALMOST hit by that golf ball) once more. 10. Main Street Electrical Parade As we previously reported, the fan-favorite Main Street Electrical Parade will RETURN to Disneyland this summer! Currently, the Mickey and Friends Band-Tastic Cavalcade Parade is holding performances in Disneyland, but the Electrical Parade will take over on August 2nd, 2019 and will run through September 30th. Main Street Electrical Parade I am TOTES booking my tickets now. We’ll be sad to say goodbye to some of these experiences, but we are looking forward to the NEW experiences coming to the Disney parks. Stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for all the news from the Disney parks and resorts! Which experience will you miss the most when it ends? Let us know in the comments! Most people know that going to Walt Disney World is a BLAST! But most people also know that going to Walt Disney World is EXPENSIVE. Magic Kingdom Between resort stays, park tickets, dining, and souvenirs — things can add up quick! Not that this stops us from going, of course. But it does keep us on our toes when it comes to finding discounts! Little savings here and there can also add up quick. Here are 5 of our favorite Disney World Discount Secrets: 1. Annual Passholders Can Save on Bottled Drinks and Snacks! Are you an Annual Passholder? If so, you never need to pay full price for a bottle of soda or water again! How? Buy them at a Merchandise Location instead of a Cart! You see, when you buy a Bottled Beverage at a merchandise location, your typical Annual Passholder discount can be applied! And this hack isn’t just for drinks — pre-packaged snacks or treats at “Merchandise Locations” qualify for the discount as well. Acclaimed voice actor and Disney Legend Russi Taylor passed away in Glendale, California, on July 26, 2019. She was 75. Through countless effervescent performances, Russi always showed an incredible talent for entertaining and improvisation. While she brought to life an illustrious cast of beloved characters during a career that spanned nearly four decades, Russi is best known as the official voice of Minnie Mouse. She first assumed the role more than 30 years ago and has given voice to Minnie in hundreds of Disney projects—from television, to theme park experiences, animated shorts, and theatrical films—no performance was too tough for Russi’s accomplished take on the divine Miss Minnie Mouse. “Minnie Mouse lost her voice with the passing of Russi Taylor,” said Bob Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company. “For more than 30 years, Minnie and Russi worked together to entertain millions around the world—a partnership that made Minnie a global icon and Russi a Disney Legend beloved by fans everywhere. We’re so grateful for Russi’s talent as well as the tremendous spirit and great joy she brought to everything she did. It was a privilege to have known her and an honor to have worked with her, and we take comfort in the knowledge that her work will continue to entertain and inspire for generations to come. Russi will be sorely missed and our hearts go out to her family and friends, along with our deepest condolences.” Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on May 4, 1944, Russi had a desire to work for Disney since childhood. “When I was a little girl, I was with my mom and my brother, and it was late at night at Disneyland. We had just come off the Mark Twain Riverboat and were getting some popcorn. I looked over and saw Walt sitting on a bench, so we introduced ourselves and shared our popcorn with him. At one point during our chat, he asked me what I wanted to do when I grow up, and I said, ‘I want to work for you!’ So he said, ‘Okay!’—and now I do!” There were some very big yellow heels to fill when she beat out 200 other hopefuls during a 1986 audition to win the coveted role of Minnie Mouse. She would go on to voice Minnie in the films Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Runaway Brain, Get a Horse!, and Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers, as well as several television series, including Mickey MouseWorks, House of Mouse, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Mickey and the Roadster Racers, and the award-winning Mickey Mouse shorts series for Disney Channel from Disney Television Animation that debuted in 2013. “Russi was as close as family; as wonderful, funny, and sweet as Minnie Mouse, and as talented yet humble as you would expect,” said Bill Farmer, the voice of Goofy and a longtime friend of Russi. “I will deeply and dearly miss her.” “You have to bring yourself to a character,” Russi once observed. “But because of this particular character, she actually enhances who I am, she really does. In a sense Minnie makes me better than I was before ’cause there’s a lot to live up to.” Russi found her real-life Mickey in the mid-1980s in the form of Wayne Allwine, who had voiced Mickey Mouse since 1977. The pair fell deeply in love and married in 1991, remaining as inseparable as their animated counterparts until Wayne’s passing in 2009. “I really want whoever comes after us to be aware of the history and the tradition, and to love the characters as much as we do,” she said of herself and Wayne. “Russi Taylor embodied the character of Minnie Mouse,” remembers Rick Dempsey, Senior Vice President, Disney Character Voices. “She truly was one of the kindest, most gracious, upbeat, and loving people I have ever had the privilege to work with and to count as a friend. Anytime anyone met Russi, their day would always get just a little bit brighter. Not only was she amazingly talented and gifted, but she had a true desire to make the world a better place with the gifts she was blessed with. The world has a lost a real treasure. She will truly be missed, but her voice will live on.” Russi’s other Disney voices have included Nurse Mouse in The Rescuers Down Under, as well as Donald’s mischievous nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie, and their friend Webbigail Vanderquack in the original DuckTales animated series. She also lent her voice to roles on other classic TV animated series like TaleSpin, The Little Mermaid, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, and Kim Possible; as well as modern favorites that include Sofia the First, The Lion Guard, and Tangled: The Series. Among the most famous roles on Russi’s impressive extended resume of credits are Strawberry Shortcake, Baby Gonzo (of Muppet Babies fame), Pebbles Flintstone, Duchess the Cat in the film Babe, and Ferny Toro in Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks. She also provided the voice of Martin Prince and the twins, Sherri and Terri, on more than 100 episodes of The Simpsons, as well as the blockbuster feature The Simpsons Movie. “I never wanted to be famous,” she once said. “The characters I do are famous, and that’s fine for me.” View the full article

For better or for worse, Disney World isn’t the kind of vacation where you can just show up. In order to really make the most of your trip, you need to do some advanced planning. Walt Disney World’s Train Station There are a lot of things you have to worry about when it comes to a Disney World vacation — like booking Advance Dining Reservations, scheduling Fastpass+, and making a Packing List. BUT what are the planning tips no one thinks about? The ones that give you that uneasy “what did I forget feeling” on your way to the airport? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here are 6 Disney Planning Tips that everyone forgets: 1. Check the Weather — and Then Plan for Everything It DOESN’T Predict, Too Florida’s weather is both completely predictable and unpredictable at the same time. In the summer time it may be a gorgeous day, and then a huge thunderstorm rolls in out of nowhere. It’ll storm for 30 minutes — winds howling, rain pouring, thunder booming — and then it’ll be gone like it never happened. (And all you’re left with is the humidity.) Rain Clouds over Magic Kingdom There are times the weather apps will say it’s an 80% chance of rain and not a drop will fall, and others where it’s a 20% chance and it monsoons. No matter what the weather report says, if you’re visiting in the Summer or Early Fall, pack rain gear. Better to have it and not need it, right? Plus, buying ponchos and umbrellas in Disney World is EXPENSIVE. Get ’em cheap at big box stores before you go. Thunderstorms are nearly a daily occurrence during a Disney World summer Additionally, people assume Florida is always hot. And for the most part, they’re right. But there are a few times where it gets cold. Very cold. Especially at night. If you’re visiting in the winter, make sure to pack a light jacket or sweater. And I always bring a winter scarf (you’d be surprised how much that makes a difference). That way if it gets chilly at night you’re prepared — and not stuck buying an expensive Disney sweatshirt you didn’t intend to purchase. 2. Schedule Travel Time Disney World is big place. We’re talking twice the size of the island of Manhattan big, or roughly equivalent to the city of San Francisco big. And a lot of people forget to schedule adequate travel time to get from here to there! Minnie Bus For example, if you’re frolicking about in the Magic Kingdom and have dinner reservations in Epcot’s World Showcase, you’ll have to: 1) get all the way out of the Magic Kingdom, 2) take a monorail to the Transportation & Ticket Center, 3) switch monorails to the Epcot monorail, 4) get through the turnstiles, and then 5) walk all the way back to World Showcase. That takes, like, at least 30 minutes on a good day. Get marooned by a parade, catch a slow monorail, or get caught in a long security line, and you’re looking at an hour at best. Heading to Epcot for Dinner? Even if you’re paying for a Minnie Van, you’ll want to budget at least an hour to get in between the two spots — you never know how long it will take to get through the Toll Plaza, Security, and the Main Entrance. Make sure to plan ample travel time in your busy schedule — what’s the point of getting all those great Dining Reservations if you’re going to be late and miss them? 3. Magical Express Pick-ups are EARLY Disney’s Magical Express is a great perk of staying on property! The bus service takes you between your Disney Resort and Orlando’s MCO airport, free of charge. But it’s important to note, Disney’s Magical Express schedules pick ups to head back to the airport early. VERY EARLY. Disney doesn’t want to be the reason you miss a flight, so they cautiously schedule Magical Express Pick-ups several hours before your flight time. And it’s much earlier than a typical flyer would head to the airport. Disney’s Magical Express So be sure to keep this in mind when planning your check-out day activities. If you’re booking a dining reservation or planning a park day, you’ll have to be done and ready to go well in advance of your flight. However, if you don’t want to leave super early, you can always take an Uber or a Minnie Van to MCO — and then your departure time is up to you! 4. Keep Checking My Disney Experience For Popular Fastpass+ and Dining Reservations Even if you’re right on time booking Dining Reservations and Fastpass+, you may not get everything you want. It can be a bummer, but you simply move to Plan B and select other restaurants and attractions. You resign yourself to waiting in the Stand-by Line at Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and you must acknowledge won’t be dining at Cinderella’s Royal Table this year. Cinderella’s Royal Table Or maybe NOT! Don’t give up hope just yet! Keep checking in on My Disney Experience for your desired reservations! People’s plans change all the time, and when they modify or cancel their bookings, their loss is your gain. An especially good time to check on dining is a day or two before you’d like to eat. There is a cancellation fee for cancelling dining less than 24 hours before the reservation, and people often wait until the last minute. And you should spend your days before your trip (and during your trip tbh) refreshing the My Disney Experience app in the hope that your coveted first tier fastpass opens up. It happens ALL the time. Happy refreshing, my friends! 5. Plan Around “Disney” Holidays When planning your Disney vacation, a lot of people know to avoid major holidays if they want to avoid major crowds. Typically speaking, if the kids are out of school, it’s a busy time at Walt Disney World. ©runDisney But a lot of people forget to schedule around “Disney” holidays! These unofficial celebrations can also draw big crowds. We’re talking runDisney Weekends, Dapper Days, Gay Days, Florida Spring Break, and big Park Anniversaries or Opens. Before you book your vacation, check Disney’s website and Social Media Sites (like Facebook events!) to make sure you’re not planning a trip at the same time as a big event — unless you want to be, of course! 6. It’s OK to Schedule Down Time. And You SHOULD. There is SO much to do at Disney World that you may be tempted to try and do it all! And while it is a very GO GO GO vacation for most people, you’re going to need a break to relax and recharge. All-Star Music Pool Make sure you allot for some pool time or a leisurely meal amidst all of the park madness. One of our favorite things to do is let the littles enjoy our resort playground — sometimes a slide is still the best! For the grownups, we love hitting a resort lounge for a cocktail and a nosh. Some of our favorites include Territory Lounge, Scat Cats Club, Ale and Compass Lounge, and the new Barcelona Lounge! Don’t forget to schedule in some down time in all of your Disney planning — your family will thank you. Want more Disney Planning Tips? Check out this DFB Video! For years, guests have dreamed of a walkway that could connect the Grand Floridian Resort and Magic Kingdom. Grand Floridian Resort in Disney World A few weeks ago, we shared information about a permit that just might be setting the groundwork for that dream to become a reality. Though we weren’t sure if Disney was going to move forward with the process — or if anything would truly come out of the filing of the permit — we spotted something that gives us a little bit of hope this week. When visiting The Grand Floridian, we noticed a bit of construction taking place. Note that Disney has not announced the walkway officially, so this could just be random construction happening over there…in the general vicinity of where an…um…walkway would be… . Grand Floridian Construction We’re excited to see what this project turns out to be! You know what we’re hoping for, but then again ya never know with Disney. Sometimes the sides that come with a meal are better than the actual entrees. That’s definitely the case with crunchy and juicy onion rings! Hungry Bear Restaurant ©Disney We love us some onion rings, but they’re even MO BETTA with lots of delicious toppings. And, we just happened to sniff out some onion rings that aren’t being advertised that much around Disneyland! The Loaded Onion Rings at the Hungry Bear Restaurant are the other half of the dynamic duo with the Loaded French Fries! Hungry Bear Restaurant Entrance The dish is topped with the same items as the secret menu fries. The onion rings are also covered in cheese sauce, cilantro lime crema, bacon, and scallions, but actually taste way better!! Loaded Onion Rings Yes, we’re being totally serious. The Loaded Onion Rings had a much better texture and flavor than the Loaded French Fries. The cilantro lime taste stood out on the onion rings, giving a little zing to each bite. The bacon crumbles added more crunchiness to the already wonderfully crisp texture — even tweaking the taste a bit to add a burst of seasoning. A Delicious New Addition To Hungry Bear’s Menu! While the crema on the fries caused them to become a bit soft and soggy halfway through the dish… The Loaded French Fries At Hungry Bear …the onion rings held up the entire time, which added to the overall presentation of the snack. The paper boat itself was filled from one end to the other with sizable onion rings, and each topping was artfully applied. You can enjoy and fill up on the Loaded Onion Rings for $5.79 before the Annual Passholder discount. And, oh look! You can snag some on Mobile Order, so you don’t even have to wait in line. Welcome back, friends! We’re here with another What’s New in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure (and Downtown Disney too)! Pixar Pals Parking Garage We’ve got the latest merch and construction updates for ya, so let’s hop right on in. Downtown Disney Merchandise Update Leading up to The Lion King‘s release in theaters last week, there’s been numerous themed merch items throughout the parks. While we have loved seeing every piece of merchandise, we spotted one of the best Rafiki quotes from the animated film in the World of Disney store. The Rafiki Tank Top is available for $29.99, and it makes us want to bounce on a few tree branches while wearing it! The Rafiki Tank Top With the debut of a line of designer ears and Mickey’s 90th birthday last year, it was only a matter of time before we had a Mickey Ear Hat honoring the creator himself, Walt Disney. The new Noah Ear Hat at The Disney Dress Shop beautifully showcases Mickey’s first cartoon, Steamboat Willie, with Walt lovingly looking on at his incredible character. The Noah Ear Hat Is $48 At The Dress Shop Whether you wear these ears around the park or put them on a special shelf at home, the Noah Ear Hat is worth collecting to preserve Walt’s memory and the mouse that started it all. Downtown Disney Construction Update Before heading into the parks for the day, we found out that the Monorail is currently closed between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM every day! Disneyland Monorail Closure Sign Better tighten those shoelaces, because we’re going on a walk through both Disneyland AND California Adventure without the helpful transportation of the Monorail. Disneyland Merchandise Update In addition to The Disney Dress Shop, the Noah Ear Hat is also featured over in Disneyana in Disneyland for the same price. Disneyana Noah Ear Hat On Main Street, U.S.A., The Mad Hatter has another adorable hat you can show off on your next Disney visit. The Mickey Balloon-filled Disneyland Visor is $24.99. Now, you just need an actual Mickey Balloon to complete your outfit! The Disneyland Visor Tucked away behind Sleeping Beauty Castle, the Castle Holiday Shoppe is the perfect place for your Christmas in July shopping. Just like the ones we saw in Disney World, the Minnie Ear Ornaments have made their way into Disneyland for $16.99. The Haunted Mansion Youth Shirt They’ll want to hurryyy baaack to ride in the classic Doom Buggies again and again! What’s New in Disney California Adventure Pixar Pier California Adventure Merchandise Update To go along with the Minnie Ears Ornaments, there are Minnie Ears Earrings for $14.99 in Elias & Co! They’re sparkly (!!!) and can be paired with any outfit. You never know — we might be wearing them right now! Minnie Ears Earrings If Minnie’s your number one gal, just put on these Yoo Hoo Earrings and the matching Yoo Hoo Necklace to become part of her extended family! The Yoo Hoo Earrings Are $14.99 And The Yoo Hoo Necklace Is $14.99 But we’re also equal opportunity fairytale fans. That’s why this Once Upon A Time Mug at Julius Katz & Son is the best way to start our day. We’ve seen this one in and around Disney World before as well. Once Upon A Time Cup Maybe some Starbucks coffee and a spoonful of sugar will make us feel like we’re in our own Happily Ever After! What Does Your Happily Ever After Look Like? Which Disney Princess castle is your favorite?? Rapunzel’s Tower, Snow White’s Cottage, Sleeping Beauty Castle, And More Are Featured On The Mug! All the park exploring definitely made us hungry while we were in California Adventure. Before heading over to get an actual Mickey Pretzel, we picked up the Salty Hat at Los Feliz Five & Dime for $27.99… Which, honestly, made us even more hungry. The Salty Hat As we were leaving the parks for the day (with our pretzel in hand, obv), we saw that the Magic Way Pedestrian Bridge from the Pixar Pals Parking Structure is making some great progress. Pedestrian Walkway Construction We’ll definitely need this soon if the Disneyland Monorail is closed during the day! Construction Progress On The Walkway That’s all for this What’s New in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. It’s Saturday! What sounds better than a nice cup of coffee and a giant donut? And, boy, do we mean giant… Strawberry and Chocolate Mickey Celebration Donuts In our humble opinion, Mickey shaped treats are some of the most iconic items in Disney World. There are Mickey Bars, Mickey Apples, Mickey Waffles… . And, there’s even the massive Mickey Celebration Donuts we tried back in May. While they were only available at The Lunching Pad until the end of June, the donuts have nestled themselves into a new home in Magic Kingdom! The Mickey Celebration Donuts have been sprinkled over at the Main Street Bakery! Main Street Bakery Sign While the Strawberry Mickey Celebration Donut can still be purchased over at Cheshire Café… Mickey Celebration Donut At Cheshire Café …The chocolate and vanilla flavors are now available on Main Street for $8.99 before tax!
