  1. If you ask a child to name a favorite Disney vacation memory, I am sure meeting beloved characters is at the top of their list. With autograph books and cameras in tow, there’s nothing like getting up close and personal with these friendly and sometimes furry friends. Luckily, throughout Walt Disney World Resort there are lots of chances to meet pals like Princess Tiana, Cinderella Mickey and Minnie (who will be sporting their colorful Surprise Celebration outfits until Sept. 30), and dozens more. At Magic Kingdom Park little ones can meet up with characters at a bunch of places including the Town Square Theater, Pete’s Silly Sideshow, Ariel’s Grotto, Adventureland Veranda, Buzz Lightyear’s Courtyard or Princess Fairytale Hall. And let’s face it, meeting characters is still a pretty big deal for us grownups too. Watch as these kiddos share priceless moments during their recent visit to Magic Kingdom Park. 3. With so many great places to dine and drink at Walt Disney World these days, there are actually a lot more must-try spots than just about anyone could squeeze into a vacation. Learn About: The Crew's Cup Lounge Disney World Restaurants So when we tell you that The Crew’s Cup Lounge at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is a must must-try, you know we’re serious. Over the years, we’ve touted The Crew’s Cup Lounge as a great place to escape the heat, and it’s still that. (Check out a review here!) But I recently ate here for a meeting after not being at the lounge for a while, and I was BOWLED OVER with what I ordered. I can’t wait to share it with YOU! (Apologies for the badly taken photos in this post, by the way — I was at a meeting and wasn’t planning on blogging the meal, but it was SO GOOD that I had to!) Neighboring Yachtsman Steakhouse, The Crew’s Cup Lounge is a low-key, inviting spot that — despite the straining crew depicted in the Lounge’s sign — is easy to enjoy. And enjoy you’ll want to do because The Crew’s Cup Lounge is now serving up some Prime Rib Sliders that made me carve out a second visit during my last short and very full trip to the World! If I’m eating someplace twice in a matter of days, you know there’s got to be something incredibly compelling going on there. Crew’s Cup Lounge Sign Grab an oar — it’s time to go! Atmosphere The Crew’s Cup Lounge is simple in design and decor, with tons of wood accents and area rugs lending it a warm and cozy feel. There’s a good amount of seating for a lounge of this size, and we’ve rarely had a wait when arriving (no ADRs required!). Crew’s Cup Lounge Atmosphere In addition to the clusters of tables and seating in the center of the Lounge, there are also booths along the wall. Crew’s Cup Booths to the Left and Tables to the Right And the bar is a simple affair, too, with high, cushioned bar stools and glass and mirror accents. Overall the space is a little dark and a lot relaxing. Bar Seating Eats The Crew’s Cup Lounge is open for dinner from 5PM to 10Pm and late-night dining from 10PM to 11PM. The late-night menu consists of only a handful of ‘entrees’ that include things like Lobster Bisque, Charcuterie or Cheese Boards, the Captain’s Platter, and an ‘Everything’ Pretzel. It’s kind of a mixed bag. Dinner is a little more expected, with several appetizers and entrees from which to choose. You really can’t go wrong with any of these options. Crew’s Cup Lounge Menu One of the appetizers — the ‘Everything’ Pretzel — comes with Beer Cheese, and now it’s time for an AJ Disney food hack: order a side of the Beer Cheese to go with your fries. Don’t hesitate; the answer is “yes, you need more Beer Cheese in your life, and this is the place to do it.” Hand-Cut Fries and Beer Cheese Sauce The Classic Crew Burger is a hearty combination of classic toppings done really well. Mr. Tractor Honey Mustard, Miso Bacon, House-made Ketchup, Mayonnaise, Lettuce, Tomato, Bread and Butter Pickles, Onions, and Cheddar top some stellar burger patties. Classic Crew Burger The shiny buttered roll is soft and fresh, and this is a decent burger. It’s a little on the small side for a $20 burger, though. The House-made Signature ‘Yacht Dog’ is a fun and upscale version of a classic. The dog here is comprised of 14-day Dry-Aged Prime Beef, and you taste every bit of that care and attention to the meat. House-made Signature “Yacht Dog” It’s served with Mayonnaise, House-made Ketchup, Fried Onions, and Mr. Tractor Honey Mustard on a Parker House Bun. The House-made Ketchup really levels up the hot dog, and I loved the crispy fried (but not greasy!) onions! House-made Signature “Yacht Dog” BUT I’ve saved the best for last, believe it or not. This dish got started when the chefs in the kitchen at the end of a long shift wanted THIS to eat, so you KNOW it’s good. The Prime Rib Sliders are an appetizer on the dinner menu, and you will 100% want to order these. (I ordered them because my friend told me that Denise from Mousesteps orders them every week! And she’s so right!) Three of the Yachtsman Steakhouse’s beloved onion rolls are topped with Prime Rib shaved thin. They’re served with horseradish cream and au jus (and I ordered a little Beer Cheese, too!), and these are ahhhh-mazing. (You literally have to say it that way when you try them… ahhhh-mazing.) Prime Rib Sliders It’s possible that I’m hungry again just thinking about these sliders. And when I tell you that I made a second trip back to The Crew’s Cup Lounge because of these, I’m totally serious. Nosh or Not? Row, row, row your boat gently to The Crew’s Cup Lounge if: You’re in the area and craving some AC with a side of awesome food. The Yacht Club is your home base during vacation, and you’re looking to try food right in your Resort. I told you to go. Point your bow elsewhere if: You don’t like lounge-style food. Yacht Club is way out of your way, and you don’t want to travel far for eats. You plan to eat at Yachtsman Steakhouse and can’t bring yourself to change tack for the Lounge instead. Overall The Crew’s Cup Lounge has the benefit of being close to a number of other Resorts — BoardWalk Inn, Beach Club, and the Swan and Dolphin Hotels are all walking distance away — and two Parks, making it actually pretty easily accessible even if you’re not staying at the Yacht Club. And it’s worth the walk (or Friendship Boat) over. Just plan to chill out, order up some fantastic food and drinks, and relax for a while. It’s honestly exactly the kind of hideout you need during a long, hot Walt Disney World vacation (and the Prime Rib Sliders! Swooooon). Have you enjoyed a meal at The Crew’s Cup Lounge? 7. It’s safe to say the DFB team is SO READY to take a spin on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Epcot’s highly-anticipated rollercoaster. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Concept Art ©Disney We recently shared the attraction’s name and plotline, and last year, we showed you guys concept art for the attraction’s ride vehicles, but now Disney has given us a FIRST LOOK at the vehicles themselves. Each ride vehicle consists of two rows of two seats, and they are bright blue, with accents of gold, silver, and pink. And as you can see in Disney’s video below, “each individual cab in the attraction’s OmniCoaster ride system will direct your eyes to the story happening around you.” We’re really curious to check them out! ©Disney As we shared before, Cosmic Rewind will begin with guests entering the “galaxarium” where they will then board a Nova ship to see the earth from space. But when the Guardians of the Galaxy show up, things take a slightly different turn — presumably several fast, energetic turns! Guardians of the Galaxy Ride Concept Art ©Disney Based on what we know so far, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind may be in a class of its own. It is, in fact, because it will feature the first-ever “reverse launch into space”! Totally epic, right? Check out Disney’s video below for a further look at the upcoming attraction! It is slated to open in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th-anniversary celebrations in 2021. What do you think about Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind’s snazzy ride vehicles? 8. Last month at the D23 Expo 2019, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Bob Chapek unveiled new details around Epcot’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, a family-friendly “storytelling coaster” that will feature a groundbreaking ride system with vehicles that rotate 360 degrees and can even do a reverse launch. Today we’re happy to share a closer look at this out-of-this-world ride system. As you can see in the video above – provided by Walt Disney Imagineering – each individual cab in the attraction’s Omni-Coaster ride system will direct your eyes to the story happening around you. Instead of whizzing by the action, the system will fully immerse you in the attraction’s story from the minute you take off. At Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind the adventure will start in the “Galaxarium,” a planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar. You’ll be invited to learn more about Xandar’s treasures – until the moment when the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive, and adventures across the cosmos ensue. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will open in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort in 2021. Keep checking the Disney Parks Blog for future updates. View the full article

  10. Are the times of Disney PhotoPass Cast Members at character meet-and-greet locations coming to an end? We sure hope not! Mickey and Minnie Meet-and-Greet We have spotted another automated camera in place of a PhotoPass Cast Member. This time, it was found at the Mickey and Minnie meet-and-greet at Town Square Theatre in Magic Kingdom. Disney has tested this system out at a few different locations throughout the last few years. We’ve seen them tested with Tinker Bell in Magic Kingdom and at Star Wars Launch Bay in Hollywood Studios. So, what are they you ask? Well, they are automated cameras that have been placed inside a themed box. This one, in Mickey’s dressing room, is located inside a bookcase. Automated Camera Guests will look at the camera as if they were looking at a PhotoPass Cast Member. The Character Attendant should assist you in knowing when to pose. The system is on a timer and took five or six photos when we were visiting. While we still had nice photos at the end of the interaction, it seemed much more difficult to get those fun candid shots. But remember, you can ask the Character Attendant to snap a few for you on your personal device. Automated Camera and Character Attendant After taking your photo with the box, you will scan your MagicBand on the PhotoPass kiosk so that the pictures will be linked to your My Disney Experience app. MagicBand Kiosk Sadly, while this gets the job done, we really miss the interaction with the PhotoPass Cast Members. They typically do such a great job and know how to get a good shot. Especially when you’ve got little ones who are scared of the characters or don’t like to stand still. But, we are glad that most locations throughout Walt Disney World are still operating with PhotoPass Cast Members. While we aren’t sure how long this system will be sticking around since it could be a test, we will be sure to keep you updated! What do you think of this new addition? 12. You know those people who are accused of celebrating the holidays far too early? Well, I’m proudly one of them! I begin celebrating Halloween in earnest on September 1 by playing Disney’s “Hocus Pocus” and “Halloweentown” on a loop, downing pumpkin-flavored treats, and decorating my home in orange and black (well, only the interior so I don’t upset my HOA). The way I see it, it’s a wonderfully wicked time of year, and October just isn’t long enough to celebrate it! I also make the full transition to Christmas beginning November 1, but that’s a story for another time. As someone who loves getting into the spirit, you can trust me when I dole out Halloween photo advice for your visit to Walt Disney World Resort: If you’re looking for frightfully festive photos, start with the Disney PhotoPass Studio at Disney Springs! In addition to standard portrait backdrops and a wide variety of Disney-themed virtual backdrops, this studio offers virtual backdrops that celebrate this spooky time of year. If you need to fill even more dead space in your photo album (or social media pages), you can unearth backdrops that feature scenes from the Haunted Mansion. Feeling heroic? Then this backdrop is perfect for you. At this time of year, I’d probably find myself reveling with Maleficent rather than fighting her, but that’s just a misguided personal preference. For those who want to start celebrating Day of the Dead early, there’s something for you too! You can capture vibrant photos with backdrops themed to Disney•Pixar’s “Coco.” Reservations are not required to visit the studio, and if you have Memory Maker or Memory Maker One Day, photos captured here are included as part of your entitlement!* Just bring a smile (or a villainous smirk) to the Disney PhotoPass Studio at Disney Springs, and the photographers will use their tricks to give you a few treats! *Disney PhotoPass Service and Memory Maker are subject to the applicable terms and policies. Includes photos taken during the applicable Memory Maker Window as defined in such terms (generally, photos taken (i) within one day for Memory Maker One Day or (ii) within 30 days from the date of first activation for standard Memory Maker). If Memory Maker is purchased at the advance purchase price, any photos taken within 3 days of the date Memory Maker is purchased are not included and must be purchased separately. A MagicBand is required to receive certain attraction photos and other digital content. Online registration required. Disney PhotoPass Photos in your account will expire pursuant to the expiration policy. Downloads are restricted to personal use only. Not responsible for missing, lost or damaged photos. Subject to restrictions and change without notice. Valid theme park admission required for certain photo locations. View the full article
  13. Paradise Gardens Park at Disney California Adventure park se viste de fiesta to celebrate the return of one of its most fun and colorful seasonal experiences, Plaza de la Familia! Plaza de la Familia honors the beloved Pixar film, “Coco,” and the everlasting bonds of family with picturesque arts and crafts activities, mouth-watering Mexican food and inspiring live entertainment! ¡Así es! “A Musical Celebration of Coco” also returns this year with its cast of storytellers to entertain guests with beloved songs from the film performed by singing host Mateo and the Grammy® Award-winning Mariachi Divas. Get transported to the land of the dead with appearances of authentic folklórico dancers and townspeople from “Coco” joined by the adventurous Miguel, who is brought to life in a whimsical style inspired by Mexican folk art! Make sure to visit the iconic Árbol de la Vida to hang an emotional thought for your loved ones on the wall of memories. Design your own paper alebrije mask of Dante or Pepita. New this year, you have the opportunity to take photos and make new memories with Miguel when he appears between shows at a beautiful artistic mural entitled “Recuérdame” (“Remember Me”). Named after the iconic song from the film, the evocative mural depicts the themes touched on by the Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia in their show, and celebrates Miguel’s beloved family in Santa Cecilia and the Land of the Dead. At Paradise Garden Grill, sample delicioso, traditional Mexican dishes, including Traditional Tamale Plate with chile red pork tamales with golden rice and black beans, and Tacos de Estilo Callejero: a trio of sirloin beef tacos with pickled vegetables, golden rice and black beans. Another option is Tortitas de Papa – vegan crispy potato cakes with sautéed spinach, ranchero salsa, golden rice and pickled onion salad. For postres, try Pan Dulce Concha, traditional house-made Mexican sweet bread filled with dulce de leche. Check out the spot we recently created with our friends at Pixar! Are you ready to celebrate the everlasting bonds of family? Los esperamos at Plaza de la Familia now through Nov. 3! View the full article

  16. Hello there, world travelers! Welcome to our latest roundup of What’s New in Epcot! Spaceship Earth We’ve got a lot to cover today — including Arendelle Aqua merch and treats — so let’s dive right in! Epcot Food Update Future World In case you missed it, Disney has revealed its newest color trend collection — Arendelle Aqua — and treats and merchandise items have started to appear in Epcot! At Sunshine Seasons, the new Arendelle Aqua Pearl Cupcake was available in addition to the Seasonal Vegan Cupcake. Sunshine Seasons Bakery Case We, of course, had to try the Arendelle Aqua Pearl Cupcake! This cupcake is a bit similar in look and in taste to the popular Rose Gold Cupcake and consists of yellow cake, Nutella filling, a mountain of vanilla buttercream, and a fondant bow and ears. Arendelle Aqua Pearl Cupcake While we enjoyed the cake, filling, and frosting, we were not fans of the fondant bow and ears (but who cares when they look so cute??). You can grab this cupcake from Sunshine Seasons for $5.49 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit! Arendelle Aqua Pearl Cupcake Read our full review of the Arendelle Aqua Pearl Cupcake here! Also debuting at Sunshine Seasons in celebration of the new color trend is Arendelle Aqua Frozen Lemonade! A member of our extended DFB family got to try the lemonade during the V.I.PASSHOLDER event in Epcot, but it should be available by the time the new collection officially drops on Friday, September 13th. Arendelle Aqua Frozen Lemonade We actually chose to add Bacardi Raspberry Rum to our lemonade, which features Monin Cotton Candy Syrup. This slush was super refreshing, tart, and super photogenic to boot! Arendelle Aqua Frozen Lemonade While you can get the non-alcoholic Arendelle Aqua Frozen Lemonade for $6.49 (or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit), our boozy version was $11.25. Read our full review of boozy Arendelle Aqua Frozen Lemonade here! World Showcase Continuing our Arendelle Aqua adventure in World Showcase, the Arendelle Aqua Victoria Sponge Cake was available during our latest visit. Note that they didn’t have any special signage out for this treat yet, so you may need to ask for it. Arendelle Aqua Victoria Sponge Cake The Arendelle Aqua Victoria Spongecake is a classic sponge cake with a bit of Arendelle Aqua-colored icing. We LOVED the light and airy texture of the cake. The icing was a little too sweet for us but we enjoyed the addition of strawberry jam inside. Arendelle Aqua Victoria Sponge Cake You can find the Arendelle Aqua Victoria Sponge Cake at Yorkshire County Fish Shop in the UK Pavilion in Epcot for $4.29. Read our full review of the Arendelle Aqua Victoria Sponge Cake here! Over in the Norway Pavilion, we stumbled upon the Frozen Arendelle Aqua Lemonade at Norway’s Beer Cart. While this drink wasn’t available to the public yet, a member of our team tried it during the V.I.PASSHOLDER event. Frozen Arendelle Aqua Lemonade The frozen lemonade is mixed with passion fruit and pineapple, and spoiler alert — it’s amazing! The tart lemonade balances the passion fruit and pineapple flavors, blending them all together in a slightly sweet, but definitely mouth-puckering taste. If you like tart frozen drinks, you’ll want to take a sip of the Frozen Arendelle Aqua Lemonade! Frozen Arendelle Aqua Lemonade You should be able to grab this Frozen-inspired drink for $5.25 once the Arendelle Aqua collection officially launches on Friday, September 13th. Read our full review on the Frozen Arendelle Aqua Lemonade here! In the Italy Pavilion, Pizza al Taglio has closed once again after recently reopening. We’ll be sure to let you know when it reopens again! Pizza al Taglio Closed Epcot Construction Update Future World During our time in Future World, we took note of the ongoing construction on Epcot’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction. When we were there, it looked like there were more workers on the roof than usual. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Construction The new coaster is expected to open in time for Disney World’s 50th-anniversary celebrations in 2021 and we can hardly contain our anticipation! Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Construction Learn more about Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind here! 17. The renovated Cinderella Castle walkway recently reopened, but the beautiful moat that surrounds the castle remained empty… Cinderella Castle Until TODAY! “So this is love? Mmm.” Cinderella Castle is back to its former glory thanks to the return of the water in the castle’s moat. The moat had been under construction for quite some time. Cinderella Castle Moat Under Construction Disney has added some new landscaping in the area. And while it looks a bit barren, we’re excited to watch these trees grow, flourish, and bring even more beauty to our beloved castle. Cinderella Castle Landscaping Disney has also changed the brick color along the moat walls and they have added a few new faux moat doors! Moat Doors With the walkway complete and the water back in place, we can’t wait to snap castle photos from our favorite castle spot once again. Cinderella Castle Sadly, a few bits of construction materials still remain, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that these will go away sometime soon. Cinderella Castle But, in the meantime, we’re excited to be able to stare at the reflection of the castle in the bluish-green water again! Are you excited that the moat is full of water again? 22. Kids today are the Imagineers of tomorrow, right?? Salt & Straw in Downtown Disney Anaheim That’s why these sweet new ice cream flavors in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney are even COOLER since they were created by kids! (Wait, whaaaat??) The September Student Inventor Series is back at Salt & Straw across the country! And, these 4th graders in Anaheim were dreaming BIG when they came up with their magical ice cream creations. ©Salt & Straw Spelled exactly like the 4th grader creator wrote it, the Forzen Prezall is a tangy yogurt ice cream mixed with cinnamon, caramel, and chewy, salty “prezall” bars. ©Salt & Straw Lady Noir, based on this student’s favorite show — Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir, is a jet black-colored chocolate ice cream with ripples of dark red fudge. ©Salt & Straw Lookin’ like a colorful candy explosion, the Magical Unicorn-ice-cream channels rainbows and unicorns with its subtly fruity blue, pink, and yellow ice cream mixed with cherries and housemade Oreos. ©Salt & Straw And, as awesome as these sound, it’s even more amazing that a portion of Salt & Straw’s proceeds goes back to the schools where these kids dreamt up their ice cream flavors!
