We’ve been keeping you guys up to date on all of the parks closures and new policies that Disney has put in place due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak. Disneyland Paris Disney has been taking many precautions to prevent the spread of the disease to its guests and Cast Members, but now news has been released that a maintenance Cast Member at Disneyland Paris has reportedly contracted the virus. The worker, according to Fox News, had “never been in contact with visitors since he works at night when the park is closed.” Disneyland Paris Hotel A representative for the CFTC Disney union has stated that the worker and three other Cast Members were instructed to stay under quarantine. Walt Disney Studios Park The Disneyland Paris Resort parks are still open as of now, but Dr. Cyril Warmberg has released more information about the sanitation methods they will be employing at the parks. Warmberg expands on the sanitation methods Disney has released (which you can read about here) and states, “Our onsite health teams and leaders are communicating with our cast members about illness prevention, including the health authorities’ recommendations for everyday preventive actions to stop the spread of germs such as: Staying home and wearing a mask when sick (upon medical prescription) Washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available) Following proper respiratory cough etiquette (i.e. cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or tissue, not your hands) Avoiding close contact with people who are sick Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands Refraining from shaking hands and hugging or kissing when meeting someone” See what else we know about Coronavirus and travel to the Disney Parks here What are your Disney travel plans looking like for this year? Today marks the 6th anniversary since the debut of the popular Disney “Festival of Fantasy Parade” at Magic Kingdom Park. It delights people daily with its colorful floats, costumes and catchy tunes, but what really makes the parade special is the people who put it on. One of those people is cast member Larry Wrobel, who recently celebrated a milestone of his own. Larry has been driving floats down the Magic Kingdom Park parade route for years, but there was one that stood out as a must-do: the magnificent Maleficent dragon float. That dream has now come true, and what made the moment even more magical is that his family was there to witness it. Larry’s wife, who also works at Magic Kingdom Park, joined the rest of his family who traveled from five different states just be on Main Street, U.S.A. so they could celebrate his bucket list dream with him. Check out this incredibly heart-warming magical moment for Larry and his family: Dreams like this come true every day at Walt Disney World, but we get even more excited when these moments happen for our incredible cast members. It’s just another part of the #DisneyCastLife! Be sure to cheer extra loud for Larry and his fellow parade cast members the next time you catch the “Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade”! St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner (and we’re ready to celebrate Disney-style)! Luna Park Pool Although we’ve already snacked on the festive Lion Paw Cookie, Mint-Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwich, and Dubliner Burger, we’re about to sip on something sweet in honor of the Irish holiday. We found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow: it’s the SUPER delicious Magical Leprechaun at Leaping Horse Libations in Disney’s BoardWalk Inn! Leaping Horse Libations The green drink is swirled with Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, Midori Melon Liqueur, Coconut, and Pineapple (our taste buds are already doing a little jig). Magical Leprechaun Sign Whether you’re looking to party on St. Patty’s or just relax by the poolside, the Magical Leprechaun will shamrock your socks off for $14! Although the mixture of melon, coconut, and pineapple is really sweet, the rum balances the flavors so it’s smooth and tasty (just like we like it!). Magical Leprechaun The alcohol isn’t too strong, even though you can taste it with every sip of the drink. We’re super digging how refreshing all the flavors are combined together! Pass us another one!! A Festive Drink for a GREAT Holiday! And, you can keep up to date on all the ways you can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Disney World by subscribing to our newsletter! Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is known for its gorgeous theming and attention to detail. So when we heard that the rooms were recently renovated, we had to go check them out! Animal Kingdom Lodge With all of the recent resort changes in Disney World, like the upgrades at Caribbean Beach Resort and the opening of the brand new Riviera Resort, we were excited to see what the renovations at Animal Kingdom Lodge would bring! Let’s take a look at some before and after photos of the rooms! One of the first changes we noticed was the updated flooring. Before the renovation, the rooms were covered in carpet. Before: Carpet Flooring The carpet has now been replaced with laminate flooring. This isn’t a surprising change since we’ve seen other Disney resorts replace carpet with laminate flooring in recent renovations. After: A Renovated Room with Laminate Flooring The seating area also got a redesign! Before the changes, the seating area featured this mirror, table, and chairs. Before: Seating Area Furniture The new seating still has a mirror, table, and chairs, but the design of the furniture is less detailed than before. After: New Seating Area Furniture The beds lost a bit of theming as well. There used to be mosquito netting draped at the head of the bed. Before: Beds with Mosquito Netting Now, the beds have a larger (repurposed!) headboard, and the mosquito netting has been removed. After: New Beds Before the updates, the nightstand was pretty basic. Before: Nightstand Compare that to the new nightstand we saw — feat. easy access outlets! Thank you, Animal Kingdom Lodge! After: Nightstand with Outlets The coffee area now includes a Keurig and a gorgeous nod to The Lion King. After: Coffee Area There were also huge changes to the bathrooms! Here’s a look at the old tub with colorful tiles and a patterned shower curtain. Before: Tub and Shower Curtain The tub is now almost unrecognizable, with glass shower doors and a more muted tile design. After: Glass Shower Doors Here’s a closer look at the new shower head. After: Shower Head And here’s a look at the toilet and shelving for all of your towels and toiletries. After: New Bathroom Design And keeping in line with Disney’s environmentally friendly initiatives, the shower features refillable shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers. Can you spy the hidden Mickey? After: Refillable Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash The sink also saw some major updates. Take a look at what the sink area looked like before the renovations. Before: Bathroom Sink Wowza! The new bathroom sink has an updated design, and The Lion King art was added to the wall. After: Bathroom Sink Here’s a closer look at the new sink. Oo, we fancy now! After: New Sink Here’s one more angle, with the complementary H20 products included. After: Sink with H20 Products Overall, we were a little bummed to see the new rooms feel less themed than before. We will miss lots of the little touches of African theming that were removed (including the cool “tent roll” on the windows!), because now the room definitely feels more like a standard hotel. But we definitely appreciated some of the upgrades (the bathroom is gorgeous!) and if you’re looking for more streamlined room, these may be a really great option for you! Check out our full photo tour of the Riviera Resort HERE! What do you think of the room renovations at Animal Kingdom Lodge? Let us know in the comments below! Whether you grew up asking your parents, “What’s with the giant golf ball?” (…or not), you may feel some pangs nostalgia when it comes to Epcot’s Spaceship Earth. Epcot And while the ride has been updated several times since its 1982 inception (which is also when Epcot opened in Disney World), we’re not really sure what’s staying and what’s going when the classic attraction gets “reimagined” this time around. Disney recently announced Spaceship Earth would be closing soon to undergo a lengthy refurb. The release was accompanied by only a few key details such as a new name for the attraction, Spaceship Earth: Our Shared Story, along with a reassurance that the story would still follow the history of mankind — but this time, it would be transformed by the “power of light”. Spaceship Earth Sounds really vague and ominous, right? In fact, the only real idea we have for how Spaceship Earth will look post-reno is this artists’ rendering of the Egypt segment of the ride. If you were really hoping Spaceship Earth wasn’t going to change very much, you were in Da’ Nile! ©Disney It’s hard to imagine what else will be different when we walk up to the ball the first time after it reopens. Will Spaceship Earth be getting a new entrance? Spaceship Earth And what about Spaceship Earth’s super-trippy mural showing man’s progress superimposed over the cosmos? This sacred work of art is like the Mona Lisa to some of us — we don’t know how we’d deal with the loss of such a masterpiece. Probably lots of therapy and ice cream for starters. Spaceship Earth Even the loading area of Spaceship Earth feels strangely special and familiar to us. “The sliding doors of your Time Machine will close automatically” plays on a perpetual loop in this room, and we still get a kick out of seeing the Omnimover’s doors shut by themselves as our ride vehicle makes the turn — EVERY TIME! Spaceship Earth’s Loading Area But one thing we wouldn’t mind seeing Disney improve is THAT dang camera! Our heads are almost always misshapen with strange bits chopped off in spite of the fact we’ve located the monitor overhead to the right AND made sure our faces are clearly visible! But actually, we wouldn’t be surprised if Disney takes this opportunity to update the in-ride film since they’re replacing Dame Judi Dench as the ride’s narrator. Going Up! Speaking of that great Dame, this is where Judi Dench’s monologue begins to play: “Like a grand and miraculous spaceship, our planet has sailed through the universe of time; and for a brief moment, we have been among its passengers…” PREACH it, Judi! Spaceship Earth’s In-Ride Film But despite Judi’s soothing tone, the first part of this ride is WAY harsh! An epic battle between early man and a wooly mammoth rages on the wall projected overhead. This is where many of us first learned the important lesson of teamwork — in one of the weirdest ways imaginable! As your chariot moves along, you’ll hear that old familiar sound of some “unknown Egyptian” pounding reeds flat! Hey, we know he’s inventing papyrus here — but could he keep it down for his neighbors, the Phoenicians? After all, they’re inventing LANGUAGE, and that can’t be easy. Thank you, Phoenicians! And while we know its kinda morbid, we can’t help but love that smoky aroma of the great Library of Alexandria in Egypt burning. Yes, much of our learning is destroyed, — or so we think, but if the new Spaceship Earth doesn’t have that old Spaceship Earth smell, we’re gonna have bigger problems than the library burning — just sayin’. Spaceship Earth This next section of Spaceship Earth is one of our favorite parts! With the explosion of the Renaissance comes advancements in artistry of every kind! Cue the hallelujah choir! The Birth of the Renaissance But it isn’t long before the angelic voices are drowned out by the frantic wailings of a 1900s paperboy — all while the scrambling 20th-century operators and radio announcers are completely doing our heads in! Can’t this thing go backwards? We liked it much better during the Renaissance! All this racket (which we wouldn’t miss, hint! Hint!) eventually leads to the Mid-Century living room OF OUR DREAMS. A family is watching Neil Armstrong take his first steps on the moon, and if these guys are moving out, can we call first dibs on their furniture? #LivingRoomGoals And just when you thought you’d seen it all, you enter the Computer Room, and there she IS! Computer Lady Surely nothing will happen to our beloved Computer Lady, right? After all, she’s GOT A NAME and her own Facebook page! She’s practically A REAL PERSON! And let’s face it — things drop off (quite literally) after the Computer Lady. She’s a tough act to follow, but we fully understand if Disney wants to add anything to the END of Spaceship Earth. We’d just be pretty heartbroken if anything up to this point gets taken out! We realize that may be a lot to ask, but the ride has grown to be a classic for us at Epcot. Spaceship Earth That’s because in its current state, Spaceship Earth is truly 16 minutes of pure, heavenly bliss. While many of us feel, “if it ain’t broke, why fix it?” about this whole endeavor, we’re gonna hold back our final judgment for when the new plans for Spaceship Earth: Our Shared Story are fully revealed. Until then, we highly recommend soaking in as many rides as you can — and maybe even bringing a mason jar or two with you to try to “bottle up” some of that burning library fragrance for a rainy day. Check out what we know so far (including a DATE) for Spaceship Earth’s closure HERE! Which parts of Spaceship Earth are you hoping will stay intact? Tell us in the comments below! With the recent Coronavirus outbreak, Disney has been taking additional precautions to protect guests, cast, and crew members. ©Disney And, while there have been park closures and Disney Cruise Line rescheduling, there’s another closure just announced. Due to the Coronavirus exposure, The Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco will be closing temporarily. ©Disney The museum has stated: “Given the continued spread of COVID-19 in the local area, and based on Mayor London Breed’s guidance from March 6, The Walt Disney Family Museum has decided to remain closed to undertake extensive due diligence efforts — in consultation with experienced professionals — regarding potential secondary exposure involving staff and volunteers.” ©Disney They are waiting to reopen until they receive clearance from medical professionals, or have waited two weeks from the time of closure. With these precautions in mind, the museum is projected to reopen on March 20th. All programs at The Walt Disney Family Museum during the two-week time period will be canceled or rescheduled for another date. We will keep updating you with more info about the museum and the Coronavirus here at DFB! The Disney Parks and Disney Cruise Line have both been holding high standards of cleanliness for the health and safety of guests during the Coronavirus outbreak. We’ve continued to give you updates on park closures, Disney Cruise reservation changes, and procedures in Disney World. And, there’s even more news to share with you about extra sanitary actions being taken against the Coronavirus in Disney Parks! According to Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Pamela Hymel, Cast Members will be receiving continual training under the guidance of the CDC. Magic Kingdom She states that they will be including protocols “such as: Defined cycles for frequent cleaning and disinfection of targeted areas Easy access to handwashing facilities and hand sanitizers Quick response to spills, trash and other situations End of day sanitation procedures for restroom, kitchen, and other facilities Frequent cleaning and “wash down” of outdoor locations, including walkways and queues” Epcot If Cast Members feel sick, they will be asked to stay home to prevent the spread of any illness. While they are in the parks, they will be expected to follow guidelines like “washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, following proper respiratory cough etiquette, avoiding close contact with people who are sick and avoiding touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.” Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway We are thankful to know Disney is taking these additional precautions to protect its guests, cast, and crew during the current Coronavirus situation. Chocolate and caramel goodness put together is a treat we would GLADLY have every day! Sunshine Seasons And, Sunshine Seasons is one of the best spots in Epcot to stop by if you’re craving dessert. Although some of their treats rotate with the season, one of our all-time FAVORITES is getting a bit of a tweak for a short bit of time! The Turtle Brownie has been a hidden gem in the bakery case at Sunshine Seasons for years (and we honestly would love an entire batch to ourselves). Turtle Brownie The treat was layered with a rich, moist brownie, MILE HIGH gooey caramel, chocolate frosting, chocolate chips, and pecans on top. Yeaahhhh, it’s basically heaven on earth in dessert form. Turtle Brownie with Serious Caramel Action! But, while we were at Epcot today, we found out that the beautiful Turtle Brownie has gotten a BIG CHANGE. Instead of the the thick layer of buttery, chewy, and salty caramel as per usual, the dessert is now a traditional brownie with a sweet caramel sauce on top instead. Turtle Brownie CHANGE! Buuut, don’t panic just yet! According to the Cast Members, they are waiting on a batch from a third party supplier so the chewy caramel is a no-go for right now. However, it will be BACK sometime soon (we’re just not sure when). Temporary Turtle Brownie Although we miss the thick caramel in the middle, the brownie itself was still rich and surprisingly tasty. So, it was good as far as Disney brownies go, but we are still anxiously awaiting the return of our one true love, er, the original Turtle Brownie. Turtle Brownie Sign You can get the Turtle Brownie for $4.79 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit at Sunshine Seasons. We’ll keep you updated on when our under-the-radar fave returns back to normal! Greetings from the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival! We’ve been making our way to all of the outdoor booths to try all of the incredible food offerings, available now through June 1, 2020! La Isla Fresca 2020 Booth Located by the front entrance to World Showcase at Showcase Plaza, La Isla Fresca celebrates the flavors of the Caribbean and is finally open for the festival! We stopped by to see what’s returning and what’s new at this year’s festival! 2020 Menu Food We’re kicking things off with a NEW menu item at La Isla Fresca: the Lamb Curry with Sweet Plantains and Rice. It might not be the most insta-worthy snack of the fest, but we thought this curry was a home run! Lamb Curry with Sweet Plantains and Rice This snack is $6.25 (or a snack credit) and it took the place of last year’s Jamaican-braised Beef. The lamb was very tender and each component was packed with flavor that made every bite delicious! We are big fans of curry, but we think this one is mild enough for a variety of palates to enjoy! We didn’t notice the spice at first but it built slowly while we were eating! It wasn’t overwhelming to us, but we do love a kick of spice! The plantains were a nice, sweet contrast to the slight spiciness of the curry. The rice was tender and served as a nice base to the rest of the curry — and helped fill us up! We were thrilled to see the RETURN of a Flower and Garden favorite, the Sugar Cane Shrimp Skewer! This dish comes with Steamed Rice and Coconut Lime Sauce for $7.00 or a great use of a snack credit! Sugar Cane Shrimp Skewer Also returning this year is the Tropical Mousse Cup! This dessert comes with layers of Passion Fruit Cake, Coconut Mousse and a Tropical Fruit Glaze with Fresh Pineapple for $4.50 or a snack credit! We thought this dessert really represented the tropical flavors well! The pineapple on top was really fresh and it was sprinkled with fresh coconut. The mousse and cake were light, fluffy, and mildly sweet — but this definitely isn’t an over-the-top sweet dessert! Tropical Mousse Cup The pineapple on top added an extra burst of sweetness and freshness that we loved. We could have done without the gelatin-type layer layer on top — because the gel texture didn’t quite blend with the cake and mousse — but, fortunately, there wasn’t too much, so we still really enjoyed this cup! Drinks For beverages, we saw mostly returning items to La Isla Fresca. The Tropical Breeze returns this year and is a non-alcoholic option for $4.50. Tropical Freeze Also returning is the Golden Road Brewing Tart Mango Cart Wheat Ale for $4.50 AND the alcoholic Tropical Freeze. This year’s version is a slight variation from last year! Whereas last year’s drink was made with Cruzan Mango Rum, this year’s version is made with Parrot Bay Mango Rum. So, essentially the same, but ever-so-slightly different for $10.00! La Isla Fresca was definitely worth the wait and we are thrilled that the booth is joining the festival again this year. If you’re on the hunt for fresh, tropical flavors, consider stopping by this tasty booth before the festival ends! Read ALL of the menus from this year’s Flower and Garden Festival here! In celebration of #FeelGoodFriday yesterday, we invited students from Osceola County School for the Arts to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to be immersed in the wacky, wonderful world of animation and experience firsthand what went into creating our latest attraction—Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. These budding artists got to become part of the cartoon world themselves when they hopped aboard Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway for the very first time and saw animation come alive like never before. But that’s not all — they also had the opportunity to learn from a few of the inspiring and talented cast members who played key roles in developing the attraction. From learning how to draw classic Disney animated characters and seeing how costume sketches become tangible outfits to watching performers bring a classic fairytale to life on stage, there was no shortage of creativity to inspire these students to pursue their artistic passions. Immersing our youth in memorable and educational experiences at our theme parks is just one of the many ways Walt Disney World Resort has continued to shape the minds, hearts and futures of our youngest neighbors for nearly 50 years.
