  8. It’s Thursday night and time to take a look at some of the exciting Walt Disney World Resort experiences you’ve got to try this weekend. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is now open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios – and guests are loving it! Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is the first ride-through attraction in Disney history starring Mickey and Minnie. You’re invited inside the park’s re-creation of the Chinese Theatre to see the premiere of “Perfect Picnic,” a new “Mickey Mouse” cartoon short written by Walt Disney Imagineering and produced by Disney Television Animation. Also, be on the lookout for new merchandise inspired by the attraction, including new Wishables, Mickey headbands, whistles, magicbands and more. You can also stop into the new Mickey Shorts Theater to view “Vacation Fun,” an original animated short that features Mickey and Minnie. And it’s the first weekend of this year’s Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival. This weekend, The Orchestra starring former members of ELO will kick off this season of flowered fun at the Flower Power Concert Series. Be sure to check out some of the new Food offerings this year before heading out to the Festival! 10. This is a tale of two cookies. One is chewy. Both are sweet. One’s been around for a hot minute. The other one’s been around so long, it’s become the stuff of Hollywood Studios legend! Wookiee Oatmeal Cookie Sandwich and Carrot Cake Cookie But if you could only enjoy one, which ONE should you choose? We don’t want you leaving Disney World with cookie FOMO, after all! That would be too depressing! At the root of this EPIC snack smackdown (unfolding right before your very eyes!) is a cookie newcomer about to go up against a Disney World reigning champ! This classic is known as the Carrot Cake Cookie (or CCC if you’re hip to the cookie lingo). And while CCC has moved around quite a bit at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it’s been here for years! Carrot Cake Cookie The ratio of the CCC’s cream cheese frosting to cookie ratio can vary from day to day (the original CCC DIDN’T play in the filling department). Meanwhile, the cookies themselves are more cakey than cookie-like. Despite its permutations, the Carrot Cake Cookie has managed to remain a super moist cookie sandwich with just a little bit of spice that eats more like a whoopie pie — and we LOVE it! Carrot Cake Cookie Cross Section But as of December 2019, a new challenger has entered the ring! Introducing the Wookiee Oatmeal Cookie Sandwich! This one features two oatmeal cookies, sandwiched together with a fluffy whoopie-pie cream filling, topped off with a chocolate bar designed to look like Chewbacca’s bandolier! Wookiee Oatmeal Cookie Sandwich The oatmeal cookies are so soft, they’re almost like eating oatmeal cookie dough! Maybe raw dough doesn’t sound that appealing to some of you, but others will totally understand what we’re talking about! Wookiee Oatmeal Cookie Sandwich And while we’re all about the actual Wookiee Oatmeal Cookies themselves (as it turns out –Chewie is quite the COOKIE MONSTER, who knew?) the filling of the sandwich is the biggest letdown. It’s a little too sweet and fluffy to stack up to that much oatmeal cookie goodness. In a perfect world, we would actually scrape the filling out of the Wookiee Oatmeal Cookie Sandwich and replace it with the Carrot Cream Cake’s cream cheese icing! Cross Section Comparison In the end, you have to ask yourself what kind of cookie person are you? Are you a true cream cheese frosting devotee or do you love oatmeal cookies enough to see past the inferior filling? Or just live dangerously and get BOTH! You could even eat them SIMULTANEOUSLY! That’s why we got TWO hands, right? Wookiee Oatmeal Cookie Sandwich and Carrot Cake Cookie Head to Backlot Express in Hollywood Studios to pick up the Wookiee Oatmeal Cookie Sandwich for $5.99 or Trolley Car Cafe to get the Carrot Cake Cookie for $3.99! Which one do you prefer? Cast your vote in the comments below! 11. The tight-knit stars of the Disney Channel Original Movie, “ZOMBIES 2,” including Meg Donnelly, Ariel Martin, Pearce Joza, Trevor Tordjman, Kylee Russell, Carla Jeffery, Noah Zulfikar and James Godfrey recently got together at Disneyland Resort to celebrate the movie’s February 14 launch. The cast enjoyed Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park, checking out their favorite attractions and the colorful, new “Magic Happens” parade. The cast also met lucky fans who traded selfies and high fives with them during their magical day. “ZOMBIES 2,” the music and dance-filled sequel to Disney’s “ZOMBIES,” begins after a groundbreaking semester at Seabrook High as a new group of outsiders – mysterious werewolves – threaten the newfound unity and cause a rift between Zed and Addison. And if you love cruising with Disney, you’ll want to add this brand-new Pandora Jewelry charm to your list of must-haves for the year! 13. In the past few years, our Walt Disney World Resort Chefs have been transforming their menus with more plant-based options than ever before! We even recently announced how we’ll be implementing hundreds of plant-based dishes at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Currently, at Walt Disney World Resort, you can find these items by looking for the new green leaf menu icon during your visit. One of the locations that has recently added several new plant-based options to their menu is the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. I’ve had the opportunity to try all three of the plant-based dishes on the menu and I have to say, they were all absolutely incredible! The plant-based burger comes with caramelized balsamic onion jam and plant-based mayonnaise on a house-baked multi-grain bun, and the plant-based loaded tots are the perfect appetizer topped with green onions, plant-based chili, and almond milk cheese. Of course, my favorite dish was the dessert! The plant-based cookie fries are unique and yummy treat to end your meal with. Similar to biscotti, these chocolate chip cookie sticks come with several plant-based dipping sauces: marshmallow cream, chocolate, and strawberry. They’re so good, I just had to share the recipe with you! This recipe makes 32 cookie fries and is the perfect serving size for a small gathering of friends or a family dinner. INGREDIENTS 2 3/4 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon powdered sugar 1/2 cup plus one tablespoon plant-based margarine, softened 7 tablespoons warm water 5 tablespoons liquid egg substitute 1 tablespoon molasses 1/2 cup dairy-free mini chocolate chips DIRECTIONS Combine flour, powdered sugar, and plant-based margarine in bowl of electric mixer fitted with paddle attachment. Beat on medium speed until smooth. In small bowl, combine warm water and egg substitute. Add egg substitute and molasses to mixer. Mix on medium speed until smooth. Fold in chocolate chips. Place in an 8×8-inch pan and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 325°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats. Cut into 32 strips that are 1/4-inch wide and 4 inches long. Place 16 strips on each baking sheet. Bake for 20-22 minutes, until crunchy. Chef’s Note: Serve with your favorite plant-based chocolate, strawberry, and marshmallow dipping sauces! If you want to come try these cookie fries and the other plant-based dishes at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, be sure to make your reservations by visiting the Walt Disney World Resort website or check out the My Disney Experience mobile app. Happy Snacking! 14. We’re here at Epcot devouring ALL OF THE THINGS during the 2020 Flower and Garden Festival! China Pavilion But you know us — having eaten a path around the 16 outdoor kitchens scattered throughout the World Showcase, we’re seeking true foodie nirvana with some of our very own DFB food hacks! And boy, do we have a hot tip to trade with you! It all revolves around the Lotus House’s House-made Crab and Cheese Wontons (a.k.a. crab rangoons!). By their own right, these crispy little bites are totally delicious and should be the cornerstone of every festival diet, FYI! House-made Crab and Cheese Wontons For $6, you get three of these fried doughy delights. And while we’ve certainly had no trouble horking them down dry — we got to thinking… what if we had a little peanut sauce to go with our rangoons? House-made Crab and Cheese Wontons We asked the Cast Member at Lotus House today if we could have a little drizzle of the peanut sauce the Bon Bon Chicken Skewer comes smothered with (it made our Best of the Fest list because we could literally guzzle the stuff by the gallon!). House-made Crab and Cheese Wontons with Bon Bon Chicken Skewer’s Peanut Sauce Check out the other Flower and Garden Festival foods and drinks that made our 2020 Best of the Fest list HERE! Fortunately, the Cast Member could see the look of determination in our eyes, or maybe they just sensed we were on the verge of having a foodie breakthrough! Whichever it was, they ladled us up a small amount of the peanut sauce (which they also didn’t charge us for) so we could fully conduct our delicious experiment. As we sat down to dunk our rangoon in the tasty peanut-y sauce, it was like a lightbulb suddenly illuminated over our heads! We knew at that moment, we MUST tell the WORLD about this HACK! House-made Crab and Cheese Wontons with Bon Bon Chicken Skewer’s Peanut Sauce While we can’t guarantee a Cast Member will be as accomodating as ours was today, this is the way to GO if you’re looking to take your rangoon game to the next level! Just ask nicely, and if they can’t do it for you, no biggie! Now take this wisdom and GO FORTH! Do you have any Flower and Garden food booth hacks? Tell us what they are in the comments below! 15. Our cupcake senses have been going bonkers lately! No sooner do we find the sweet little Baymax Cupcake at Disney World’s All-Star Sports than we pick up the scent of another treat just across the way. Baymax Cupcake We found this delectable little cupcake at All-Star Music’s Intermission Food Court and we had to dig in because of three syllables: CHOC-O-LATE! Take in the complete package that is the Chocolate Indulgence Cupcake. This cupcake is, of course, a chocolate cake base with chocolate filling inside and chocolate frosting on top. Chocolate Indulgence Cupcake Clearly, that’s not enough chocolate, so they’ve added two chocolate coins on top for Mickey’s ears and a ring of orange sprinkles around the side. And all the green and gold is totally giving us St. Patrick’s Day vibes. Chocolate Indulgence Cupcake There’s a lot of chocolate to get through here, but the sweetness didn’t over-stay its welcome. The cupcake itself was super moist (probably helped by all that chocolate filling). Chocolate Indulgence Cupcake If you want to tackle the chocolate mountain, you can find it at All-Star Music for $5.49 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. Check out this Butterfly Cupcake soarin’ over Disney World! Are you ready to dive into the Chocolate Indulgence Cupcake? Let us know down in the comments! 16. Look, we’re right there with ya: we need a little jump-start in the morning, especially before we try and tackle Disney World. Our step goals around the parks speak volumes! Trolley Car Cafe If you’ve been hankering for your next caffeine obsession like we have, we just spotted two new Starbucks iced drinks at Trolley Car Cafe in Hollywood Studios. First up, we’ve got the Iced Pineapple Matcha. This mix is swirled with coconut milk, matcha, ginger, and pineapple. Iced Pineapple Matcha We’re going to be honest, we’re not huge fans of matcha, so we were a little nervous about trying this one. Surprisingly, it was actually really refreshing starting with the pineapple flavor and the matcha taste finishing it off. Iced Pineapple Matcha After downing that, we also had to try the Iced Golden Ginger. This drink features coconut milk, ginger, and pineapple, so it sounded like it would just be the Pineapple Matcha without the matcha. Iced Golden Ginger This one actually had the more unique flavor of the two. We LOVE the pineapple in here, especially on hot Florida days! If you’re not a fan of ginger, you may not be so quick to jump on this drink. The ginger does take some of the spotlight here thanks to its kick. iced Golden Ginger Both drinks will run you $5.29 for the Tall, $5.69 for the Grande, and $5.99 for the Venti at the Trolley Car Cafe, but look for it at the other Starbucks locations around Disney World and back at home! What do you think of these two new drinks from Starbucks? Let us know down in the comments! 22. We’re only a few weeks away from the first day of Spring (March 19) and I’m ready for it! There’s something about spring that just puts me in a different mindset and makes me want to refresh everything. I love shopping for floral spring tops and dresses and trying new seasonal food and even skincare products. If you’re anything like me, sometimes beauty and skincare seem a bit overwhelming. I can tell you that you can get all of your questions answered at Disney Springs.
