We’ve seen lots of spots reopening around Walt Disney World lately. © @sweetliv_emmie But others are still closed. We’ve even seen some spots open, close, and then reopen. But we’re particularly surprised that three fan-favorite restaurants have not yet reopened! We’ve enjoyed lots of food and drinks at a bunch of reopened spots around Disney World including Chef Mickey’s, Grand Floridian Cafe, and Chicken Guy! Chef Mickey’s — Meat and Cheese Plate But three fan-favorite spots are still closed! 1 — Casey’s Corner At the end of Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom, you’ll find Casey’s Corner — a quick service spot where you can grab some delicious hot dogs and one of our favorites… Casey’s Corner …Corn Dog Nuggets! Oh boy, do we sure miss these. There’s nothing quite like taking a seat on some grass in the Magic Kingdom hub, with your corn dog nuggets and cheese, and just taking a moment to soak in the magic. Casey’s Corn Dog Nuggets Casey’s Corner also used to be home to strange but exciting speciality hot dogs, like the Fried Pickle Hot Diggity Dog. Fried Pickle Hot Diggity Dog But, the restaurant did not open when Magic Kingdom reopened, and it has been temporarily unavailable ever since. We’re surprised this spot hasn’t reopened yet, because it truly was a popular place to get a quick, but totally satisfying, meal in Magic Kingdom. Casey’s Corner — Screenshot from the Walt Disney World Website With other quick service spots like Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe and Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe open in Magic Kingdom, we’re not sure exactly why this spot has remained closed. The restaurant is definitely smaller in size in the ordering area, and doesn’t have much seating on the inside either. We can see how it would be difficult to maintain social distancing in this tight spot. Casey’s Corner But we’d be totally okay with using mobile order exclusively to quickly get some delicious food, and have cast members limit how many guests can enter the space at one time to pick up their meal. Then, we can totally take our treats to a socially distanced spot nearby to enjoy them, even if that means sitting in the grass or on a nearby bench. Casey’s Corner is Still Closed We definitely hope Disney finds a safe way to reopen this spot sometime soon, and we’ll be on the lookout for any news about its potential reopening! 2 — Gaston’s Tavern Over in New Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom, we used to be able to grab a giant cinnamon roll and a delicious LeFou’s Brew at Gaston’s Tavern. Cinnamon Roll at Gaston’s Tavern But, this spot did not reopen with the park and is still temporarily unavailable. Again, this one is quite a surprise since it features that signature drink and some fun snacks. It was a great place to get a cool break from the Florida heat. Gaston’s Tavern — Magic Kingdom’s New Fantasyland This quick-service restaurant has some indoor seating, but it is pretty small when compared to spots like Pecos Bill. Still, we’ve seen spots, like Sleepy Hollow, open that don’t have the largest ordering or seating areas. Gaston’s Tavern Dining Room Recently, we spotted some Cast members just outside the Tavern, who appeared to be measuring lines to mark for physical distancing. Cast Members outside of Gaston’s Tavern So, we’re hopeful that this spot will be reopening soon and we’ll get to enjoy those ginormous cinnamon rolls (with five extra sides of icing please) very soon! 3 — ‘Ohana Last, but certainly not least, is ‘Ohana. ‘Ohana is a table service restaurant in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort that used to serve both breakfast and dinner. At breakfast, you got the chance to enjoy some favorites, like Mickey waffles, served family-style. Plus, you got to say hello to Lilo, Stitch, Mickey, and other Disney friends. ‘Ohana Breakfast Dinner was an all-you-can-eat feast featuring grilled meats, chicken wings, Hawaiian speciality sides, and the signature ‘Ohana Bread Pudding for dessert. The servers would come around and serve the grilled meats off of their skewers in the same way that they’d be served at a Brazilian style steakhouse restaurant. ‘Ohana Steak We can practically taste those chicken wings and noodles in our dreams. Getting reservations for this spot was pretty difficult before the parks closed, so we’re surprised it hasn’t yet reopened for its adoring fans. Ohana Appetizers featuring Honey-Coriander Chicken Wings We’ve seen lots of spots reopen in the Polynesian Resort including Kona Cafe, Captain Cook’s, and, just recently, Tambu Lounge (which is located just next to ‘Ohana). Some Disney restaurants that serve food family-style, like Garden Grill in EPCOT, have also reopened. We’ve also seen restaurants outside of Disney that serve their meat in a similar fashion, like Texas de Brazil, reopen in some places with some modifications. ‘Ohana Shrimp So, we’re hoping it’s just a matter of time before Disney finds a way that’s safe for both the cast members and the guests to reopen this fan-favorite spot. While Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows are now open, the Polynesian Village Resort is not set to reopen until October 4th. We’ll definitely keep an eye out for any news that may signal that ‘Ohana will be opening around that time. Which of these spots are you hoping reopens soon? We’d love to eat at any of them right now. But, since we can’t, we’ll have to settle for some homemade versions of our favorite treats for now! Movie theaters have now started their initial opening procedures with distancing measures in place. Although movies like Mulan will premiere on Disney+ at first, other movies like Soul are still set to make their debut in theaters. ©Walt Disney Studios And now, merchandise inspired by the upcoming film Soul has started to make its way to Disney World before the movie’s November 20th release! As we were hopping around Disney’s Animal Kingdom to take home an entire bounty of Baby Yoda figurines and snack on some secret menu items at Yak and Yeti, we noticed a new mug in Chester and Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures. Chester & Hester’s Since we haven’t seen TOO many details about Soul, our first thought was “Um, who dis cutie??” But, after a little digging, we realized the mug features one of the new characters from the movie! Soul Cat Mug We aren’t sure what role this sweet feline will play in the film just yet, but the mug is a GORGEOUS gradient color of greens, blues, oranges, and yellows that has us on team “Soul cat” already! Soul Cat Mug And, it’s a pretty decently sized mug so you can fill it up with lots of coffee or hot chocolate this fall season for $19.99! Soul Cat Mug After seeing this mug, we’re even more excited for Soul to make its way to theaters soon! AND, we just really want to know what this pretty kitty has to do with the story! We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more movie merch as the premiere date gets closer, so stay tuned! Watch a sneak peek of Soul coming to theaters soon here! Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC is located in Disney Springs and bakes fresh treats with vegan and gluten-free ingredients. Sugar Rush Cake Bar from Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC We heard earlier that the bakery was mixing up a new Sugar Rush Cake Bar this month. We thought this would be a great opportunity to see what’s fresh and do a taste test of ALL THREE of the available cake bars right now! Let’s do a quick review of the Sugar Rush, Milk and Cookies, and Brownie Cake Bar. First off, we want to note that non-vegans and gluten eaters will most likely enjoy a lot of what the bakery has to offer. While the cake bars were vegan and allergy-friendly, we (as meat and gluten eaters) didn’t feel like there was anything missing. The bakery does a great job of incorporating the tastes and textures we’re accustomed to. We suggest you give the treats a try even if you’re not vegan! Ok, enough disclaimers. It’s cake time! Cake Bars from Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC Sugar Rush The Sugar Rush Cake Bar was simply referred to as “Vanilla Rainbow” at the bakery. The cake is vanilla, topped with vanilla rainbow icing, and a sugar cookie. It’s basically sugar on sugar on sugar! Sugar Rush Cake Bar from Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC We could really taste the vanilla in the cake and the frosting. It wasn’t overly sweet, which was a little surprising given the amount of sugar. The sugar cookie was our favorite part. It was crisp and the sugar crystals tasted great. Also, the candy pearls added a nice crunch to the treat! Sugar Rush Cake Bar from Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC Word of warning: The frosting is fairly thin so it melted like crazy in the hot sun. We were absolutely covered in frosting by the end of our treat fest. Get in those Instagram pictures before your cake looks like a pile of goo! Milk and Cookies The Milk and Cookies Cake Bar has a white cake base, topped with vanilla frosting, chocolate icing, and a sugar cookie coated in chocolate cookie crumbs. Milk and Cookies Cake Bar from Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC It tasted fairly similar to the Sugar Rush bar, only with less vanilla. We didn’t really get the taste of “milk and cookies” in this cake. The cookie on top was a little chewy and not quite as crispy as the Sugar Crush cookie too. We would have liked more cookie inside the bar. Milk and Cookies Cake Bar from Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC Don’t get us wrong, we really liked it! It tasted like a good piece of cake with frosting. That said, when compared to the other two cake bars, it didn’t stand out as much. Brownie Cake Bar The Brownie Cake Bar was our favorite cake bar of the day! Granted, we’re big chocolate fans, so that’s not too surprising. The dessert is made with a chocolate brownie cake base, topped with chocolate frosting, icing, and strawberries. Brownie Cake Bar from Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC The cake’s texture was exactly as advertised. It was a nice mix of fudgy brownie and moist cake. The chocolate really came through in the frosting and wasn’t overly rich. What really topped it all off was the fresh strawberries. The tangy fruit balanced out the chocolate nicely. A big win for us! Brownie Cake Bar from Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC All these cakes are HEFTY, by the way. The slices are really big and dense. One cake bar is $8 and can easily be shared with two people. Consider dropping by Erin McKenna’s next time you’re at Disney Springs! Oh, and did we mention they have a Donut Happy Hour? That’s right. Between 11AM – 3PM, guests can buy one donut, get one 50% off! Is there anything sweeter than that? Need more options? Check out the limited-time Sunbutter Cupcake from Erin McKenna’s! We just love this time of year: from pumpkin spice everything (YES!) to all the wonderful decorations of Halloweentime, fall is pretty much one of our favorite seasons in the Disney Parks. So yes, we’re sad about Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party getting canceled, but Halloween at the Disney Parks is NOT canceled completely. ©Disney We’ve already given you a rundown of what to expect at Walt Disney World this fall, but the Shanghai Disney Resort is also getting in on all the autumnal and Halloween fun. Guests at Shanghai will get to enjoy loads of extra entertainment and special events, all in honor of the spookiest time of the year. So what all does Shanghai Disney have planned for fall? There’s a special month devoted entirely to Duffy, as well as character cavalcades, loads of Halloween fun, and more! Duffy and Friends at Shanghai Disney Resort. ©Disney Celebrate Duffy Month Shanghai Disney has dubbed the month of September as Duffy Month and will host a special event that runs throughout the whole 30 days of September as part of its “A Month with Duffy and Friends.” Duffy and Shellymae Buns Shanghai Disneyland First up is some brand new entertainment: The Duffy and Friends Celebrate Together show, which will be all about fun and friendship and life on Mickey Avenue. This sounds amazingly cute! A new backdrop (“social wall”) of Duffy and his friends enjoying a fall picnic will provide the perfect background for a lot of great photos. But check this out, y’all: kids (or adults — we don’t judge here) can bring their favorite Duffy plush to the park and take photos of them in a variety of miniature settings around Mickey Avenue designed just for that. Duffy Month Food at Shanghai Disney Resort ©Disney What’s a celebration, though, without food? You knew we were getting to that, right? There will be loads of Duffy and Friends-themed treats, including a Duffy-themed set menu at The Royal Banquet Hall in the Enchanted Storybrook Castle. This is a multi-course meal that also includes a visit by Duffy and Friends in person. There’s also a special Duffy afternoon tea party at Mickey & Pals Market Cafe. Throughout the rest of the resort, guests can also expect to see a ton of Duffy-themed sweets, including coffee-flavored Duffy the Disney Bear ice cream, fudge cakes (Nom!) as well as ice cream waffle cones. Our mouths are watering, y’all! Duffy Month Merchandise at Shanghai Disney Resort ©Disney Once guests have filled themselves up with all those treats and snacks, it’s time to go shopping! Shanghai Disney is bringing out all kinds of new Duffy and Friends merchandise, including the Duffy in the Garden collection. And how adorable are these characters in their little gardening clothes? There is also a new Duffy and Friends plush, along with keychains, plate sets, mugs, and home decorations. But yes, there is more: Disney is going all out for Duffy Month. The Shanghai Disneyland Hotel will offer a special staycation package, which is available through September 24. Not only will guests get a memorable stay at the hotel, but that stay will include Duffy-themed room amenities and overlays, breakfast, and two tickets for admission to Shanghai Disneyland! We’re just going to go on record to say that this will be an absolutely incredible experience for Duffy fans! Enchanted Storybook Castle at Shanghai Disney ©Disney Halloween Fun If that wasn’t enough autumnal excitement for you, there are plenty more things awaiting guests at Shanghai Disney Resort. Much like Walt Disney World’s spooky 2020 plans for Halloweentime, Shanghai Disney has a lot of really fun things on tap for celebrating one of our favorite times of the year. From October 5 through November 1, Halloween will be in full effect at Shanghai Disney. First, guests can wear Halloween costumes in the park (just like Disney World)! And while in costume, guests can enjoy Donald’s Halloween Treat Cavalcade, where they will be joined by Mickey Mouse and friends, along with Disney Villains and spooky dancers. Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas will throw a creepily spectacular “This is Halloween” dance party. And Miguel from Coco will host a singalong at a Coco-themed area from October 12 through November 8. Fall at Shanghai Disney Resort ©Disney Fall Fun Although we love our pumpkin spice, fall is also about cooler weather, pretty colors, and harvest. Shanghai Disney will honor all things fall with the Disneytown Festival Market, which runs from September 12 through October 8. The market will feature a Foodie Feast (we hear Shanghai Disney calling our name!), Farmers Market, and Folk Art Fairy. And in the spirit of the season, Shanghai Disney will also offer a Mid-Autumn Festival, along with Thanksgiving family feasts. Let’s face it: we’re all about the food, so this sounds pretty incredible. For those who love the great outdoors, especially in fall when the leaves begin to change color, Wishing Star Park will return to let younger fall lovers explore the natural world through a series of three exploration trips. Kids who go through all three trips will even get a chance to see Mickey Mouse! ©ShanghaiDisneylandResort on Instagram From September 1 through September 24, guests can buy a package called the Happy Gathering – Bundle of Three Weekday Package. This special package includes three standard one-day park tickets on a pre-selected date from September 2 through September 25. There’s also the Enjoy Flavors – Bundle of Three Weekend Package (we’re in!) that offers a snack combo voucher, along with a specialty beverage voucher. With many Disney Halloween special events canceled this year, Disney will still be offering different ways to help guests celebrate. Check out all the spooky snacks coming to Disney World this Fall! While Disney World continues its phased reopening, on the other coast, discussions are still in the works on when theme parks, including Disneyland, can safely reopen. Disneyland Gate California Governor Gavin Newsom held a news conference today, where a major update was announced for the state’s county monitoring system, which will go into effect on Monday, August 31. Previously, counties were placed on a singular watch list based on certain metrics surrounding the pandemic. Based on those metrics, a county was either on the list or off the list, with modifications in place for which business sectors could reopen. Earlier this week, we had shared the news that Orange County was removed from that watch list. Disney California Adventure Park Now, that system has shifted to a new, four-tier classification that lists a county’s risk level as either Minimal, Moderate, Substantial, or Widespread. Each tier has two main criteria, which are the number of new cases per 100,000 residents and positive test rate. Source: covid19.ca.gov Looking at an updated state map for California’s counties with the new tiered color-coding implemented, it appears that Orange County, where Disneyland resides, will begin this new tiered system in the highest category, “Widespread.” Source: covid19.ca.gov Governor Newsom highlighted that “in each tier, in order to move out of those tiers, there is now a 21-day mandatory wait time.” With Orange County in “Widespread” as of August 31, this 21-day mandatory wait time appears to indicate that the earliest the county can move to “Substantial” would be September 21. That movement, however, is predicated on “two weeks of some stability and steadiness” before a county moves into a new category. Source: State of California Dr. Mark Ghaly, secretary for the California Health and Human Services Agency, reiterated this important metric by saying “if you’re assigned a tier…starting on Monday, you should expect to be in that tier for at least three weeks. And then before you move to the next tier…you will have had to meet the criteria to be [in that tier] for at least two weeks.” World of Disney Line When it comes to Disneyland, one reporter asked, “I don’t see amusement parts on the sector guidance list that your office put out, so what does this mean for Disney?” Mask signage at Ballast Point in Downtown Disney Governor Newsom responded by saying, “Specific to the issue of many, not just the one group that you mentioned, the one brand, but other amusement park operators, we are working with them. We set our discussions aside on that, they’re forthcoming, it is a very dynamic conversation. And so we didn’t include it in the update today, that is a separate conversation.” Mickey Float in Magic Happens Parade Newsom continued on to say, “It’s an easier one to have frankly with some of the larger ones, we’re trying to accommodate for some of the other amusement activities in the state, and so you’ll be getting that as soon as we work through that. One of my afternoon meetings is in this space and we’re actively looking to see where we land on that.” Disneyland Resort Disneyland had originally announced a reopening date of July 17, but had to delay those plans indefinitely due to a lack of industry guidelines from the state in regards to theme parks. On the state’s newly updated website, if you were to look up Orange County and theme parks, it reiterates the fact that theme parks are currently closed in the county. Source: covid19.ca.gov We will continue to keep a close eye on California and specifically Orange County as it navigates this new tiered system. In the meantime, Disneyland has yet to announce any new reopening plans for its two theme parks or resort hotels, but the Downtown Disney shopping and dining district continues to be open daily for Guests. Click here to read more about how California state officials are reviewing how to reopen theme parks safely. Have you been to Downtown Disney since it reopened in July? Let us know in the comments! Forget impressing your friends with your incredible Disney knowledge. You can really blow their socks off when you order a secret menu item at a restaurant or lounge in Disney World. Blue Wildness (Secret Drink at Geyser Point) Part of the fun in ordering a secret menu item is that it feels like you’re a secret agent with special, classified information. But one spot in Disney World has taken a bit of the “secret” out of it. If you’re headed to Walt Disney World, you’ll definitely want to be prepared for the heat! When you need to cool down, grabbing some gelato or sorbetto over at Vivoli il Gelato in Disney Springs can be the perfect way to take a break. Vivoli il Gelato We’ve had some delicious items over there like the Creamsicle Float and the Peppermint Cannoli. Now, one of our favorite items from the past and another fun item have made it back in a secret but also not-so-secret way. Introducing, Vivoli il Gelato’s Secret Menu…that has not so secretly posted on their official menu online. Ever heard the phrase “secrets, secrets at no fun, unless you share with everyone?” Vivoli il Gelato must have taken that phrase to heart. Vivoli il Gelato Secret Menu First we’ve got the Double Chocolate Waffle Sundae which comes with your choice of three scoops of Gelato, Sauce, and Whipped Cream on a freshly baked double chocolate Waffle. Vivoli il Gelato was showing off this item in a sign near their store not too long ago, so it looks like the secret is truly out. Vivoli il Gelato Double Chocolate Waffle Last year, we tried this treat when it was called the Brownie Waffle Sundae, but it looks like it’s essentially the same with just a small name change. It was a fantastically ooey and gooey in the very best way the last time we had it, so we’re hoping it will be just as delicious this time around! Gelato Sundae from Vivoli il Gelato The second “secret” item is the Matcha Affogato which comes with your choice of Gelato, Matcha and Whipped Cream. If you’re a fan of matcha, then this may be a great treat for you! Vivoli il Gelato Even though you don’t exactly need high level security clearance to order these “secret” menu items, we still think it’s fun that they’re being offered! We love to spot special menu items in Disney World, so we’ll definitely keep our eyes open for more speciality treats you can order on your next trip. Click here to see what’s new at Disney Springs! What’s your favorite treat to get at Vivoli il Gelato? Tell us all about it in the comments! Related posts: NEW! Cookie-Filled Sundae Arrives at Vivoli il Gelato in Disney Springs! NEW! But what about the other parks? What creepy wonderfulness have they cooked up for Halloween? From September 26 through November 1, Disneyland Paris is putting its best Halloween foot forward. Guests can expect to see the parks decorated with all those glorious Halloween goodies that we love, including Jack ‘o lanterns and ghosts. And there’s even a Mexican Festival! Donald Duck in Halloween costume at Disneyland Paris ©Disney Although Walt Disney World is offering Halloween-themed photo ops with PhotoPass photographers, Disneyland Paris has decided to keep things a lot more casual. Costumed characters will be available for selfie ops throughout the park. Guests of Disneyland Paris will also get the opportunity to have various random sightings of Disney villains. Guests at Disneyland Paris will get to nom on some amazing food and treats, including Disney villains cookies (!!!). If you love sweet or even savory treats, then you’ll definitely want to stop by Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie in the France pavilion on your next trip to EPCOT. Les Halles Boulangerie Food Options From a delicious Croque Monsieur to a decadent Créme Brûlée, there’s so much to try here. Recently, we spotted a new delicious option there and we just had to try it! We’ve just about eaten our weight in macarons from Les Halles (and we have no regrets whatsoever)! Macarons from Les Halles During our last trip to this spot, amongst the other delicious items, we spotted a new set of macarons on the menu — the special edition 3 pieces. Les Halles Menu Sure enough, we found them right next to our usual set of 6 trustee macarons. But, of course, since these were a new special edition set, we had to give them a try! Les Halles Macarons Introducing the new special edition 3-count macaron collection. Special Edition Macarons The macarons come in three flavors. Special Edition Macarons There’s Blackberry… Blackberry Macaron …Raspberry Lime… Raspberry Lime Macaron …and Orange Chocolate. Orange Chocolate Macaron These macarons were so cute! Macarons And they were quite delicate, but in the best way possible. Look at how they just melted away. Absolutely perfect! Orange Chocolate Macaron Which one is our favorite, you ask? Well, we’d say it was probably a tie between the Raspberry Lime… Raspberry Lime Macaron …and the Blackberry. But really, all of them are winners. Blackberry Macaron None of the macarons were too overpowering in terms of their flavor, which we really enjoyed. Raspberry Lime Macaron We were able to munch on these light and sweet treats, and enjoy their flavors without feeling like any one thing was too strong. Orange Chocolate Macaron The Raspberry Lime was perhaps the most potent in terms of flavor, but we still really enjoyed it. Raspberry Lime Macaron They really were such delight! Special Edition Macaron Set So, if you’re looking for a delicious and unique treat during your next culinary adventure around World Showcase, be sure to check these out! Special Edition Macaron Set You can grab the set at Les Halles for $6.90. Don’t worry, we got the regular set of 6 macarons during our last trip as well. You’ve heard the big news about Splash Mountain, right? Earlier this year, it was announced that this iconic attraction would be undergoing a retheme into a Princess and the Frog-inspired attraction. Splash Mountain Disney has been gearing up for this change already with restocks of the suddenly-high-demand Splash Mountain merch and the removal of “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah” from the background music in Disneyland. Now, it looks like Disney might have taken one more step towards the closure of the current version of Splash Mountain. The Play Disney Parks app features fun games, trivia, and achievements inspired by the Disney parks. A few months ago, a new Splash Mountain game launched called Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah-Day. Now that game has disappeared from the app’s options. Play Disney Parks Screenshot Now, when you look over at Frontierland in Magic Kingdom or Critter Country in Disneyland, you’ll notice that the only Splash Mountain option available is a little star icon which means guests can get an achievement for riding the attraction. No game here! Play Disney Parks Screenshot As you can see, the only option on the menu for Splash Mountain is to earn an achievement.
