  1. In the months since Disney World began its phased reopening, we’ve gotten TONS of questions from our readers regarding the status of some of our favorite locations throughout the resort! Main Street, U.S.A. From restaurants and resorts to barbershops and boutiques, here’s a list of just SOME of the locations that STILL have no reopening date announced! Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts The majority of Disney World’s hotels have either reopened or have announced a reopening date. Then there are the two Port Orleans Resorts, French Quarter and Riverside, that have yet to announce ANYTHING. Not even a PEEP of a reopening timeline has been announced for these Moderate Resorts. We just want to see Yehaa Bob again! The All-Star Resorts have also been pretty silent when it comes to a reopening date. Port Orleans Riverside Some resorts have had their original reopening plans delayed, like Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. And most recently Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort’s reopening was delayed by a whopping YEAR and will now open summer 2021. But Port Orleans is a rare example of hotels that have announced NOTHING as of this writing. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Disney has been very flexible in accommodating Guests with upcoming reservations at resorts that wind up being closed. If you fall into this category, Disney will reach out to you in order to move you to an open resort at no added cost. You can read more about what to do if your hotel isn’t reopening here. Click here to see the reopening dates of Disney World’s hotels Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique One of the highlights of a Disney World vacation for a young prince or princess is a trip to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique! So we totally understand the concern that this popular place with locations in Magic Kingdom, Disney Springs, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa has yet to announce a reopening date! Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique – Currently closed Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is an experience that brings guests and Cast Members into close, prolonged contact with one another, so Disney is more than likely erring on the side of caution when it comes to reopening this location. Click here to see our ultimate guide of which attractions, shops, and restaurants reopened with the Disney World theme parks. Harmony Barber Shop In the same vein as Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, Disney World has yet to announce a reopening date for Harmony Barber Shop, located on Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom. Much like your local hair salon or barber shop, this experience is the exact opposite of what Disney World is trying to promote at this time, which is a contactless experience for both guests and Cast Members. Harmony Barbershop ©Disney We’re sure this iconic Main Street location will reopen one day, but for now, it sounds like the NBA’s Bubble League Barber Shop is the only location on property cutting hair at the moment! In addition to getting your hair cut, here are some other bizarre things you can do in Disney World! Restaurants Galore! A large number of restaurants have reopened in Disney World; however, there are many that are still closed and have yet to announce any reopening plans. Some of these restaurants are pretty major players! For example, we have NO idea when ‘Ohana will reopen, but we can only hope that it reopens sooner than summer 2021, which is when Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is now scheduled to reopen. ‘Ohana Character Breakfast Most signature dining is also put on hold, and we haven’t gotten any updates on these high-end dining experiences. Most notably, we don’t know when to expect Victoria and Albert’s to reopen! Other signature restaurants in the Grand Floridian have not announced reopening dates, including Narcoossee’s and Citricos. White Glove Chocolate Truffle Service Dinner shows like Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue and Disney’s Spirit of Aloha are also unavailable with no reopening dates announced at this time. A few in-park favorites are closed as well, like Casey’s Corner and Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom. Click here to see some other dining locations that we’re shocked haven’t reopened yet! Most of the Live Stage Shows Disney World isn’t just about the rides, and yes, even WE will admit it’s not JUST about the incredible food! Disney has some spectacular live stage shows that have largely been put on hold. These include Festival of the Lion King and Finding Nemo the Musical in Animal Kingdom, as well as Beauty and the Beast — Live on Stage and Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, to name a few. Indiana Jones There’s no word yet on when these shows will return, for perhaps a few reasons. First, theatrical events and live stage shows where large crowds of audiences are clustered together for an extended amount of time is probably NOT the safest environment. Even if seating in theaters was socially distanced, you’re still packing hundreds of guests into tighter quarters. Disney is offering a few shows, but very few. You can currently watch “The Disney Society Orchestra and Friends” show and the Disney Junior Play and Dance Party at Hollywood Studios. The Disney Society Orchestra and Friends Disney has also had a rather public back-and-forth feud with Actors Equity, the union of professional stage actors who represent many of the performers in Disney World. Equity has been hesitant to allow its members to return to work, citing a lack of adequate testing on Disney’s part as one of the main reasons why. And while the two groups have seemed to come to an agreement, the shows involving equity performers have yet to return. Click here to see what Disney has done in the meantime while their stage shows cannot go on. The return of fireworks and parades like Festival of Fantasy have not received a return date either. While guests can enjoy character cavalcades, Disney’s big parades and nighttime spectaculars still remain on hold. Happily Ever After Disneyland Resort Alright, this last one isn’t a Disney World location, but we figured we would throw in a special bonus SIXTH item. As of this writing, we STILL do not know when Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth will reopen. Disneyland originally had a reopening date planned for July 17, but that was all put on hold from the state government. Since then, it’s been radio silence from the west coast! Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle California Governor Gavin Newsom said in a recent news conference that discussions concerning theme parks were “forthcoming,” although his newly rolled out tiered monitoring system for the state’s counties puts Orange County, where Disneyland resides, in the highest risk category for at least 21 more days. Disney California Adventure Ultimately we won’t know when Disneyland will reopen until Disney announces a date themselves! It appears as though California is acting out of an abundance of caution, so until Disneyland and California Adventure reopen, we’ll have to make do with just Downtown Disney being open for Guests! Click here to learn more about California’s new tiered monitoring system and what it could mean for Disneyland’s reopening. When Disney World said “phased” reopening, they REALLY meant a phased reopening. Not everything is coming back right away, and as Disney navigates these unprecedented times, they have had to make in-the-moment decisions to delay certain locations reopening. Disney may or may not have dates in mind for when they would like these locations to reopen, but until the make an official announcement, we’ll just have to be patient! Which reopening in Disney World are YOU waiting on the most? Let us know in the comments! 3. Looking to enjoy some popcorn at Magic Kingdom this weekend? Magic Kingdom Well, if you don’t have your Park Pass reservation already, you may be out of luck…key word “may.” The Park Pass reservation calendar has been changing A LOT lately! We just shared with you yesterday that Park Pass reservations were completely unavailable for this Sunday, September 6th. We checked again this morning, and that still appears to be the case. Currently, there are no Park Pass reservations available for any of the Disney theme parks for Annual Passholders… Park Pass Availability Calendar — September 6th — Annual Passholders …Theme Park Tickets Guests… Park Pass Availability Calendar — September 6th — Disney Tickets Guests …and Disney Resort Guests for September 6th. Park Pass Availability Calendar — September 6th — Disney Resort Guests But now, it looks like Park Pass reservations are entirely unavailable for all guests and all parks for Saturday, September 5th as well! That’s right. No Park Pass reservations at all appear to be available for Annual Passholders… Park Pass Availability Calendar — September 5th — Annual Passholders …Theme Park Tickets Guests… Park Pass Availability Calendar — September 5th — Disney Tickets Guests …or Disney Resort Guests for this Saturday. Park Pass Availability Calendar — September 5th — Disney Resort Guests BUT…things aren’t always as they appear! When we actually went through the system to see if we could make some Park Pass reservations for this weekend using an Annual Pass, the system actually showed that we could book a reservation for any park on Saturday, September 5th. Disney’s Animal Kingdom It also looked like we could book a reservation for Magic Kingdom or EPCOT on Sunday, September 6th. It would not, however, allow us to book a reservation at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios for September 6th. EPCOT So…while you can certainly look at the Park Pass reservations calendar to see what’s available, if you’re trying to book a Park Pass reservation, particularly for a busy day, you’ll DEFINITELY want to go into the system to actually try to make a reservation and see if it shows different availability. Bear in mind, the availability of Park Pass reservations change rapidly. So, while we were able to access some reservations this morning despite the calendar not showing any availability, you may experience an entirely different situation. We also checked the system utilizing our Annual Pass, so the availability may be entirely different for Theme Park Tickets Guests and Disney Resort Guests. Tower of Terror Sign Have we officially entered the Twilight Zone portion of 2020? It kind of feels like it. We are already seemingly celebrating both Halloween and Christmas in September, so at this point, we wouldn’t be surprised. Be sure to check back for more updates on Park Pass reservations, awesome merchandise, and all kinds of Disney fun! Headed to EPCOT soon? 4. This week is off to a busy start, with the MAJOR announcement that the reopening of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort would be delayed until 2021 for refurbishment. With the popular Monorail resort not reopening for Guests until summer 2021, that leaves many travelers with upcoming reservations without a resort to stay at. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort So, what exactly happens when you are booked at a Disney World Resort hotel that doesn’t open? Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time Disney has had to deal with this sort of situation in 2020, and who knows if this is the last time they’ll make this sort of announcement this year! This is 2020, after all, and anything can happen! In the case of the Polynesian specifically, Guests are already being contacted by Disney with options moving forward. According to a letter received from reader Kristel B., Guests may choose a new resort “at no additional charge.” Switching to a new resort also will not impact other vacation experiences, including Park Pass Reservations. Sent to us by Kristel B. © Disney This seems to be in-step with what Disney has offered Guests previously who had booked reservations at resorts that ultimately did not reopen according to schedule. This is also not the first time Disney has delayed the reopening of a resort hotel. We are still waiting for reopening dates for hotels like Beach Club and the All-Star Resorts. Therefore, if you have an upcoming Disney World reservation, it’s a good idea to keep checking the status of your resort! Disney’s BoardWalk Inn Since Disney World first announced the reopening dates of select resorts, Guests with reservations at closed hotels have been able to modify their accommodations to a new resort. At first, Disney notified Guests that they would need to pay the difference, but shortly after, Disney changed their policy to allow Guests to change to a new resort at NO additional cost. Stormalong Bay If switching resorts is a dealbreaker for you and you would prefer to cancel your reservation, you may also do so without any additional cost or fees. Disney has extended their cancellation policy through December 31, 2020. Keep in mind that this policy extends to all resort guests and not just the ones that are impacted by any specific hotel closures. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Whether or not Disney chooses to extend this policy again is yet to be determined, but if you have a reservation for, say, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort in spring 2021, you will still have the option to modify your reservation separate from Disney’s general cancellation policy. Pool Area at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort If your upcoming reservation is at a resort that will not reopen at the time of arrival, Disney will reach out to you at the contact information provided with more details on how to move forward. Click here to learn more about the Polynesian’s LENGTHY extended closure! Have you had an upcoming reservation been impacted by your chosen hotel being closed? Let us know in the comments! 5. We’ve got even more news about a new feature on the My Disney Experience app for Walt Disney World guests: the Mobile Dine Walk-up Waitlist! Le Cellier in Walt Disney World’s EPCOT This feature allows guests to view Table Service restaurants that have available seating for walk-up guests with just a tap on their phone. The list of restaurants utilizing the feature continues to expand (almost daily!), and today there are FIVE more restaurants on the Mobile Dine Walk-up Waitlist that we want to share with you. Just this week, Tiffins in Disney’s Animal Kingdom became the first restaurant in a Disney World theme park to be added to the Walk-up Waitlist feature (with the others located in Disney World Resort hotels). The newly added restaurants are also in a theme park; only this time, the park is EPCOT! Rose and Crown Coral Reef Restaurant and Garden Grill in Future World have joined the list, as have Biergarten, Le Cellier Steakhouse, and Rose & Crown Dining Room in World Showcase. Garden Grill, you may recall, is currently offering a modified version of its typical character dining experience. But you can still dine in the presence of Mickey, Pluto, and Chip ‘n Dale, and you can read about it here! Mickey and Pluto! If you’re just hearing about the Mobile Dine Walk-up Waitlist, you can read all about how it works, and which restaurants utilize the feature, by clicking here. (And remember, if there is a Table Service restaurant on your Must Dine list, it’s best to have an Advance Dining Reservation so you can rest assured.) Click here to find out more about the new Mobile Dine Walk-up Waitlist! If a restaurant you’re interested in isn’t listed on the feature, it’s still worth checking with a Cast Member to see if a location is currently accepting walk-up guests as this feature continues to expand to more restaurants — and, of course, we’ll keep you posted here as it does! 8. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios is a mystical place filled with unique dining and merchandise offerings. Here, you’re truly transported to another planet (the planet of Batuu, if you’re wondering). You can sip on Blue Milk, pilot the Millennium Falcon, and even create your own droid. Batuuan Spira Gift Card And since you’re being transported to a new planet, of course, Disney wants guests to be able to use that planet’s form of currency, if they’d like. When Galaxy’s Edge opened, guests could purchase a gold Batuuan Spira metal gift card. This was popular and sold out quickly at both Disney World and Disneyland. Yesterday, we shared that a silver version of this gift card was on the way. Now, the silver Batuuan Spira metal chip gift card has landed at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios! The front of the card depicts the Black Spires you see in Galaxy’s Edge… Batuuan Spira Gift Card …and the back of the card packaging tells the backstory of the currency! The gift cards can be found at Droid Depot (the merchandise shop where guests can build droids) while supplies last. Batuuan Spira Gift Card These metal cards can be used just like any other Disney gift card. The only catch is that it must be loaded with a minimum of $100 and the card itself is $4.99. Also, there’s a $1000 max limit if you really want to go on a shopping spree! Once you use all those dollars up (which shouldn’t be too hard since Disney keeps dropping new ears left and right) you’ll have a pretty awesome Galaxy’s Edge souvenir to take home. Batuuan Spira Gift Card There’s no official word on if these will be making their way open to Disneyland once the parks reopen, but we will be sure to let you know. In the meantime, be sure to check DFB for the latest Disney news. And if you guys have any questions, let us know, and we will do our best to get you the answers you need! 10. MagicBands are wearable devices that can function as a guest’s park ticket, hotel room key, contactless payment method, and more. MagicBands The MagicBand is integrated with a guest’s My Disney Experience account, which helps consolidate plans and reservations without the need to carry multiple physical tickets, cards, and keys. Since being introduced in 2013, Disney World hotel guests and Annual Passholders have all received a free, solid color MagicBand; and recently received the option to select an upgraded MagicBand design for a discounted rate. But soon, that practice will be changing. Disney has announced that beginning in January 2021, Disney World hotel guests and Annual Passholders will no longer receive a free MagicBand with their reservation or pass. MagicBand Options ©Disney Instead, Disney plans to launch new offerings as part of the My Disney Experience app that will bring the features of a MagicBand to guests’ smart devices. This will involve expanding upon the app’s Digital Key technology which allows guests to unlock their rooms using their smartphones. Park Entrance Scanner Despite the discontinuation of complimentary MagicBands, Disney has stated that they WILL continue to release new colors and designs, and Disney World hotel guests will have the option to purchase MagicBands at a discounted price. Guests who prefer not to purchase a discounted MagicBand will be able to use the My Disney Experience app or a Key to the World card during their visit. Mulan MagicBand In other words, MagicBands will still be functional and guests will have the ability to reuse bands they already own, or purchase new ones. Or, they can opt to use a Key to the World card (similar to the process before the introduction of MagicBands) instead. Figment Slap MagicBand With this upcoming change in mind, we reached out to our followers on Instagram to ask, “Will you still use MagicBands in 2021 when they’re no longer free?” And of the 485 responses we received, a resounding 407 said YES, they will still continue to use MagicBands. Of the remaining responses, 50 said NO, and 28 said they’d “wait and see,” or “Wait…WHAT? MagicBands Won’t Be Free?” Pie Chart of Our Readers’ Responses When Asked If They Will Still Use MagicBands in 2021 When They’re No Longer Free Let’s take a look at the reasons some of our readers gave behind their responses! “Yes, I’ll Still Use MagicBands in 2021!” It looks like a lot of our readers are still pretty passionate about their MagicBands — 84% said they will still use them in 2021. Many respondents commented on the convenience they provide. “Absolutely! Makes it so easy compared to using a phone for everything.” MagicBands at World of Disney While most of our readers still plan to use MagicBands, there were differing opinions on whether or not they plan to invest in new designs. Some plan to reuse their old bands: “Yes, but I probably won’t buy new ones.” While others love collecting new options: “Probably because I already buy limited edition ones when I visit the parks. Not much difference.” EPCOT Forever MagicBand A number of others also said they feel that MagicBands are part of the experience, and they enjoy keeping them as a souvenir from their trip. “Yes, because they add your own personality and add to the magic of Disney.” We asked our readers if they chose to cancel their Disney World Annual Pass. Here’s what they said. “No, I Don’t Plan to Use MagicBands in 2021.” But not everyone plans to make use of MagicBands moving forward — 10% said they won’t be using them in 2021. Guests have always had the option to use a card (similar in size and shape to a credit card) instead of a MagicBand, and some said they plan to continue down that route. “Nope, don’t use it now.” Magic Kingdom Tapstiles Others mentioned that they aren’t happy with Disney’s decision to change the complimentary MagicBand policy. “No, they shouldn’t make guests pay for them! They are near essential to the parks.” Hopefully, the new smartphone features Disney has said they will roll out will be able to compete with the ease and functionality of MagicBands. We asked our readers if they think Disney World face characters should be wearing face masks. Here’s what they said. “I Might Use MagicBands in 2021, But It Depends…” Making up the remainder of the responses, 6% weren’t able to say for sure whether or not they will use MagicBands in 2021. A few readers mentioned that they’re waiting to see how the new alternative technology will work: “Maybe. It will depend on the new smartphone features they roll out.” My Disney Experience And others hadn’t yet heard the news about the upcoming retirement of free MagicBands. “What?!? They’re not going to be free?!?” Sadly it’s true — we feel your pain! While a few of our respondents said they plan to stop using MagicBands next year — or, in some cases, continue to bypass them — it looks like the majority of our readers are all-in on them. Between the convenience, customization, and collectability, our readers gave some pretty compelling reasons for their answers. And, of course, we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments as well! We asked our readers if they would take their kids to Disney World right now. Here’s what they said. So, what do you think?? Will you continue to use MagicBands in 2021 when they’re no longer free for Disney World hotel guests and Annual Passholders? Let us know in the comments!
