We’ve eaten our way around the world (many times) at EPCOT, but thankfully calories don’t count at Disney (right?). EPCOT Well, if you’re like us and you’re still waiting for some of those closed restaurants in Disney World to reopen (so you can eat even MORE food), then you’ll be excited to hear that one quick-service spot in EPCOT was open this past weekend and should be available when you visit on the weekends. In the United Kingdom pavilion in EPCOT, you’ll find Yorkshire County Fish Shop — a quick service spot that serves up some seriously DELICIOUS fish and chips! Just look at that perfectly crisp batter. Cross-section of fish Currently, on the Walt Disney World website, this location appears as “Temporarily Unavailable.” Screenshot from the Walt Disney World Website But, over the weekend, our friends over at Touring Plans posted a story on their Instagram account noting that Yorkshire County Fish Shop was open! ©Touring Plans via Instagram @TouringPlans When we stopped by today, the spot was closed. Yorkshire County Fish Shop Closed But, we did spot a social distancing marker directly in front of the counter of the restaurant. Yorkshire County Fish Shop We spoke to a Cast Member in EPCOT who told us that the location should be open on the weekends. Hooray!! This reminded us of the various 2020 Taste of EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival booths which we’ve been told should also be open only on the weekends. It seems Disney is adjusting the hours and dates of operation for some of its locations depending on crowd levels and guest need. Yorkshire County Fish Shop Keep in mind that the outdoor seating area near the Yorkshire County Fish Shop is one of the current mask relaxation stations. So, if you’re going to grab food from Yorkshire County Fish Shop, you could take it to that spot, where you’ll be able to sit and relax without your mask on at a socially distanced table. United Kingdom Relaxation Station We’re excited to see this spot reopening and we can’t wait to try it on one of our future trips to EPCOT. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa is now welcoming back guests after a temporary closure. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort While the Villas at the Grand Floridian and some of the resort’s restaurants had already opened, the non-Disney Vacation Club guest rooms reopened today! We visited the hotel to see what things look like now that it’s officially reopened. Let’s start with the gorgeous lobby! The incredible chandelier and fabulous 1920s aesthetics greeted us when we waltzed into the resort. Grand Floridian Lobby There is seating available in the lobby and the seats are spaced out to allow for distancing. Grand Floridian Lobby The tables in the lobby also had signs reminding guests of the new health and safety protocols. Grand Floridian There wasn’t much of a crowd when we visited — in fact, we almost had the lobby to ourselves. Grand Floridian Lobby We stopped by Basin, a store located inside the Grand Floridian Resort that sells natural bath, body, and haircare products. Basin The store has markers for guests to stand on at the checkout counter and a plexiglass barrier between guests and the Cast Member. Basin Let’s head out to take a look at the grounds of the resort! Grand Floridian As with the lobby, we didn’t encounter many guests as we were making our way around the grounds. Grand Floridian Definitely a lot of open space! Grand Floridian The pool is open to guests from 7AM-11PM. Pool Hours There weren’t many guests in the pool area either. Grand Floridian Pool If you had a kiddo in tow, they would have the slide all to themselves. Grand Floridian Pool We swung by Narcoossee’s, a table service restaurant at the hotel which just reopened on Sunday, September 20th. Narcoossee’s There were signs outside of the restaurant reminding guests of the new health and safety procedures, as well as a sign with a QR code that allows guests with reservations to use Mobile Check-In. Signs Outside Narcoossee’s And even though Gasparilla Island Grill has already been reopened for a while, we decided to swing by for a little mid-afternoon refreshment! Gasparilla Island Grill And with that, we wrapped up our visit to the newly reopened Grand Floridian Resort! The crowds were pretty light on our visit, although that could change as more guests begin to check-in. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is a stunning resort, with a Pacific Northwest theme and a location convenient to boating on over to the Magic Kingdom. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge In addition to having normal guest rooms, this deluxe resort is also a Disney Vacation Club Resort, featuring the Copper Creek Villas & Cabins and Boulder Ridge Villas! One of the BIGGEST perks of being a DVC member at Wilderness Lodge has been access to the Reunion Station. Reunion Station For the uninitiated, the Reunion Station is a space near Geyser Point (one of our fav places for a quick bite!). It acts as a communal space and relaxation spot, and it’s also where DVC members can take advantage of creative and culinary workshops, including wine tasting, photography, and cake decorating. Reunion Station game area While DVC rooms at Wilderness Lodge are currently accepting guests, the Reunion Station is closed until further notice. There’s no signage about this change around Reunion Station, but we spoke with a Cast Member today, who told us they received notice of the closing and do not have a reopening date. We were strolling through World Showcase today when we spotted a bit of a surprise. Italy Construction EPCOT is certainly Disney World’s biggest work in progress. Between the Future World construction and upcoming attractions, the EPCOT Transformation is in full swing. That means we tend to see a LOT of construction. Today though, we spotted some construction we WEREN’T expecting. The Italy Pavilion looks a little bit different. The edge of the pavilion, bordering the American Adventure Pavilion, has a LOT of construction barriers up that are new to the area. What a surprise! Italy Construction We’ve spotted a few behind-the-scenes building permits for the Italy Pavilion but they haven’t had significant details. So we’re really not sure what mysterious work is going on behind these walls. Italy Construction The construction does stretch all the way around to The American Adventure Pavilion so it’s pretty significant. Cast Members we spoke to weren’t sure about what the construction could be either. Although, they were able to tell us that the work is not for the Pin Traders location that used to be in this spot. Did you hear the news? Just last week, Mobile Order in Disney World expanded to include a Table Service restaurant for the first time, and today we’re learning a few more details on this updated feature. Sanaa But first, a bit of background: Mobile Order made its Disney World debut in May 2017. Launched within the My Disney Experience app, the feature allows guests to pre-order and pre-pay for their food at participating Counter Service restaurants, thereby saving time which would otherwise be spent in line. This recent expansion, though, introduced Mobile Order to a Table Service restaurant for the first time with To Go service from Sanaa in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Not only did we share the new Mobile Order Table Service To Go option with you, we also tried it out for ourselves! You can check out our experience using it at Sanaa here. Our Table Service To Go feast! Sanaa is currently the only table service restaurant offering the Table Service To Go option. However, Disney has shared that the service will soon expand to more restaurants! Table Service To Go Screenshot Though it has not yet been revealed which additional locations will offer the service, Disney has shared that the restaurants will include other select Disney Resort hotel table service restaurants, allowing guests to place a to go order from a selection of items on the restaurant’s table-service menu then pick up their food to eat at their hotel. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Regarding the expansion of Mobile Order and other new features like Mobile Dine Check-In and more, Disney shares that: “These latest enhancements are designed to help you maximize vacation time and minimize contact between cast members and guests,” in keeping with new health and safety measures. And it was also noted that Mobile Order will be expanding to even more Counter Service locations around the Resort soon, too (which is a pattern we’ve definitely noticed over recent weeks)! Star Wars fans! You no longer have to enter Disney’s Hollywood Studios to snag some Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge merch. Star Wars Trading Post Last week, a new Star Wars gift shop overtook WonderGround Gallery in Disneyland Resort. The new store is selling lightsabers, droids, and other souvenirs you can find inside Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland. Now, Walt Disney World is joining in on the galactic fun! Disney Springs is hosting a Passholder preview of the Galaxy’s Edge merch available at Star Wars Trading Post. We popped in to see what kind of space goodies we could find! Disney prepared for a big crowd at the Passholder event with virtual line signs at the ready. The crowds weren’t quite large enough for a virtual queue this morning so we jumped into a short line and quickly walked right in. Once inside, we noticed the lightsaber building stations were removed to make way for Galaxy’s Edge keepsakes. Star Wars Trading Post There were some signs and mannequins that advertised for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge… Star Wars Trading Post …and as for merch, we found plenty of plushies and creatures! You can find most of these cuties at the Creature Stall and other shops in the Black Spire Outpost Marketplace. We spotted adorable Porgs, Loth-Cats, and Wampas. Creatures! PLUS, Baby Yoda, Princess Leia, and Stormtroopers! MORE Porgs! And even Ewoks, Finn, and Chewie! Ewoks! You gotta look the part if you want to blend into Batuu! There was plenty of clothing for those of who you wish to join the Resistance… Rebellion Clothing …and lots of options for members of the First Order! First Order Gear Also new to the Trading Post are the rose gold Galaxy’s Edge accessories… Galaxy’s Edge Accessories …and more gear inspired by Batuu! Millennium Falcon Gear Are you a Star Wars collector? Some of the items from Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities moved in too! Dok-Ondar’s Collectibles There were plenty of statues, replicas, holocrons, and lightsaber kyber crystals to choose from! Holocrons and Kyber Crystals And it can’t be Galaxy’s Edge without droids! You don’t have the option to build your own droid here, but there were a few pre-built replicas ready for you! You can bring home R2-D2… R2D2 Droid …and DJ R3X! DJ R-3X You can complete the set with C-3PO! C-3PO The store will be open to the general public starting tomorrow, September 22nd. Walt Disney World is a pretty terrific place to spend Halloween, don’t you think? Mickey’s Happy Halloween Cavalcade in Magic Kingdom If so, there are plenty of other people that agree with you, as evidenced by the fact that the required Disney Park Pass reservations for guests to enter a park continue to fill up on Halloween for one group of ticket holders: Annual Passholders. Magic Kingdom was completely booked for October 31st for Annual Passholders by mid-August, with Disney’s Hollywood Studios following suit later in the month. And now, three out of the four Walt Disney World theme parks are booked for Passholders. Disney’s Animal Kingdom shows no availability for Annual Passholders on October 31st as of press time. EPCOT is the only remaining park available for Passholders to book for Halloween. Walt Disney World website screenshot We do want to note two things: first, general theme park ticket guests and Disney World Resort hotel guests can still book any of the four theme parks for October 31st. And second, remember: from time to time Disney has released additional Park Pass availability for Annual Passholders, so it’s definitely worth keeping an eye out for more availability. One industry that has been significantly affected by the global health crisis is the cruising industry. Disney Cruise Line Last week, Disney executives noted that Disney Cruise Line would be one of the last sectors to return right before the company extended the sailing suspension through December. Now, we’re getting an idea of what it will take for cruise lines to embark safely in the wake of the global health crisis. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line’s Healthy Sail Panel has released a report detailing 74 safety recommendations for cruise lines to follow for a safe reopening. Let’s take a look at some of the most prevalent of those recommendations. ©Disney Magic The panel suggests that anyone planning to sail should have taken a COVID-19 test and received a negative result between five days and 24 hours ahead of departure. Those who test positive and the rest of their party should not come to the port. At the port, guests should be screened for symptoms with questionnaires and temperature checks. ©Disney Aboard the ship, the report recommends that passengers and crew follow CDC guidelines including social distancing and the wearing of face coverings indoors. The panel recommends that anyone refusing to follow safety protocols will not be allowed to board. It is also recommended that the ships themselves receive upgraded HVAC systems to improve air circulation. Like with many other industries, the report suggests a phased return to cruising. Lines could potentially use short cruises that travel to private islands. The panel did not recommend a capacity limit but noted that single-person cabins should be available for crew and that crew should follow health guidelines as well. Castaway Cay If someone were to become sick with COVID-19 symptoms onboard, they (and anyone they came in contact with) should be quarantined in a separate area and should be able to leave the ship and travel back to the mainland for treatment. Recommendations also call for increasing the medical personnel-to-passenger ratio. The recommendations are extensive. The report notes, “The pandemic presents serious challenges, but we believe that with the ongoing advances in areas such as testing and therapies, our recommendations provide cruise operators with a robust set of thoughtful preparations, innovations, strengthened protocols, and enhanced facilities preparedness that will enable them to safely resume sailings.” You can read all 74 recommendations here. Disney Wonder ©Disney As you might recall, cruises are under a no-sail order through the end of the month and Disney Cruise Line has suspended sailings into December. Before any cruises can sail, they must enact a CDC-approved plan for a safe return to sailing. This report could be a big first step in that direction for Disney Cruise Line.
