  3. Disney World is constantly changing during normal times, and in a post-closure world, it seems like it’s changing ever MORE often! Magic Kingdom We’ve seen lots of changes this month regarding everything from face masks to Halloween (and sometimes both!). So, let’s take a look at some of those BIG changes and how they’ve affected our Disney days. 1. Face Mask Announcement Changes First off, we want to talk about face mask changes. We talk about face masks a LOT in a reopened Disney World. Whether we’re spotting new ones (Like our SUPER cute DFB Masks! Seriously, check them out!) or just noting changes to the policy in the parks, they tend to be on our minds. Face Mask Assortment This month, we noted some pretty interesting changes on the face mask front. For one, Disney updated their overhead announcement again. The announcement typically reminds guests to wear face masks at all times except while actively eating or drinking while stationary. Together Again Face Mask We’ve seen this announcement change several times since the parks reopened. Now, it clarifies that face coverings must fully cover your nose and mouth. We heard this change for the first time this month, and we can see why Disney added it to the message. Cast Member We’ve actually noticed a slow shift in the way that guests are experiencing the Disney World parks. For one, we’ve noticed that the parks are feeling more crowded and mask use isn’t quite as vigilant. We’ve seen a fair number of folks with the mask slid down past their noses. Masks are required in Disney World So, if you’re headed to Disney World soon be aware of these changes! You are being asked to cover your mouth AND nose with your mask when in the parks and you might see some more crowds than we reported on in the early reopening days. Click here to listen to Disney’s updated mask announcement! 2. New Restaurant and Hotel Openings As most months have since the closure, this month also brought along several reopenings! We’ve seen the return of a few favorite dining locations, the reopening of a hotel, and the announcement of some upcoming dates too! ABC Commissary When it comes to restaurants, the BIG reopening this month was actually a quick-service location. Gaston’s Tavern reopened in Magic Kingdom to much fanfare (from us mostly). We’re so happy to be reunited with our beloved Cinnamon Roll! Gaston’s Tavern Inside We also can look forward to the return of character dining in Hollywood Studios when Minnie’s Seasonal Dine comes back with the reopening of Hollywood & Vine on September 25th. We’ll see ABC Commissary join the mix too on October 8th. Halloween at Hollywood and Vine with Minnie’s Seasonal Dine And the BIG announcement this month (when it comes to dining anyway) was for the reopening of Cinderella’s Royal Table on September 24th! But get this, it’s coming back WITHOUT princesses. Woah. Views from Inside of Cinderella’s Royal Table We also saw the reopening of another resort. Disney’s Yacht Club is once again available to guests and, perhaps more importantly, Stormalong Bay (one of the best pools in Disney World) reopened with it! As a reminder, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is reopening soon too; we can’t wait for September 21st! Click here to see ALL of the upcoming hotel reopening dates! 3. Holidays in a Reopened Disney World And finally, we’re talking about the most fun change of the month — Halloween began! This is the first major holiday that’s kicked up since the closures so we’re really starting to see how Disney will handle holiday merchandise, eats, and celebrations going forward. That’s a pretty big deal. Halloween Decorations at Magic Kingdom First, we started to see merchandise appear and that merchandise is now pretty widespread. The good news is that even without Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, there’s no shortage of Halloween souvenirs and specialty treats. We’ve seen LOTS of spooky merch and we’re loving it. Halloween Merchandise Speaking of things we’re not missing out on, decorations are also up in Magic Kingdom! As a note, they are pared down, so don’t be expecting quiiiite what you might have seen in past years. For example, we haven’t seen our beloved scarecrows in the kingdom yet! Main Street, U.S.A. As we mentioned, we have not been left wanting when it comes to Halloween treats. We’re still getting a FULL list of options. It’s really nice to still be able to chow down on some of our favorite Not-So-Scary eats even when we have to miss out on some other aspects of the party. Pumpkin Mousse Of course, it does suck to not see the Halloween parade and fireworks in Magic Kingdom and we’re super sad we won’t be taking an up-close pic with Jack and Sally. But we DO still get to see them! Jack Skellington The Halloween Character Cavalcades have been an absolute DELIGHT. You can see Mickey and Friends in their costumes, Jack and others from Halloweentown, and the Disney Villains. Honestly, we’d love it if these cavalcades stuck around and we’re pumped to see the Christmas versions. Disney Villains Cavalcade We’ve really had a blast seeing how Disney is making Halloween work, which is getting us interested in how the winter holidays will look this year. Disney also let us know that some of our favorite holiday experiences are coming, while others will be skipped this year. For example, there’s no Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party this year! Click here for EVERYTHING you need to see about Halloween in Disney World! So those are the BIGGEST changes in Disney World this month. Pretty interesting stuff! 5. If there’s anything we can all agree on, it’s that Disney World souvenirs can cost a pretty penny! While some may consider certain merchandise worth the splurge, other items leave us scratching our heads as we wonder how long it’s going to take us to fill up our piggy banks to be able to afford it! EPCOT Food and Wine Dooney and Bourke bags We polled our readers the other day asking if they’ve ever splurged on a balloon at Disney World (‘cuz they ain’t cheap!), and we were surprised in the best way possible to hear your responses! Out of the total number of responses we received, 30% of those polled said that they have definitely splurged in the past on a balloon in Disney World! Our survey results! When you think about how much a Mickey balloon costs (a whopping $14!), it can sometimes be difficult to justify dropping that much money on something that isn’t intended to last very long. Magic Kingdom As much as we would like these balloons to last forever, over the course of your Disney World vacation, you may find that the balloon loses air every day, leaving nothing but an empty shell barely hovering above the ground in your hotel room at the end of your vacation (what a sad, sad image to have in your head!). Or you have a hard time figuring out how to take it home. Mickey Balloons in Disney Springs One reader agrees with the average lifespan of a Disney balloon by responding, “It’s a tradition of mine! Every trip I get a balloon, enjoy it in the room through the trip, and at the end of the trip, deflate it with a straw, fold it up, and save it for reasons unknown to me.” Baby Yoda Balloon in the Bunch! There’s plenty of other souvenirs you can purchase for $14, including keychains, magnets, and other items that will DEFINITELY outlive a balloon. But some of you are super CREATIVE when it comes to repurposing your balloons. One reader responded to our poll by saying that “Since we live in Illinois and couldn’t take it home with us, we cut the end carefully to deflate it and when we got home stretched it across a canvas and hung it in our daughters’ room! Since she loved it so much!” Balloons! Still, there’s something special about those Disney balloons! They were one of the things we were the most EXCITED to see on Disney Springs’ grand reopening day back in May. Our hearts also skipped a beat when we saw the Halloween Mickey balloons for the first time this year! One reader told us an incredibly sweet story reiterating just how much these balloons mean to folks: “My daughter got one for her 6th birthday. We took lots of pictures. She kept it the whole trip, then on our last day, she gave it to another little girl walking down Main St since she knew it couldn’t come on the plane.” Balloons on Main Street, U.S.A. Another response seemed to tell the other side of the same story! “We got lucky last trip and a little girl who was leaving the day we arrived gave my daughter her balloon. It made her day. Then the day we checked out we asked a cast member to pass it on to the next kid checking in! So fun to pay it forward for others to enjoy!” Magic Kingdom Whether you’re an avid collector of Disney World balloons or you like to simply admire them on Main Street U.S.A., there’s no denying that they are a quintessential souvenir throughout the parks (except for Animal Kingdom…you won’t find any balloons there!). 6. Another day…another fun Halloween treat! Halloween Treats We’ve tried fall treats all over Disney World, but it seems we’re almost always finding something new! Just today, we spotted some spooktacular treats in Disney Springs, and one of them was truly in costume! As we walked around Goofy’s Candy Company in Disney Springs today, we made our way over to the bakery case to see if we could spot anything spooky to try! Goofy’s Candy Company And that’s when we spotted it — a pumpkin pie — we repeat, AN ENTIRE PUMPKIN PIE — made out of…RICE KRISPIES! If there’s a costume competition for snacks, we’re giving this one top prize. It’s adorably disguised. It even has the little “whipped cream.” Also, bonus points for the Mickey sprinkles. Halloween Treats You KNOW we had to get a taste of this beauty. Now, we didn’t buy the whole pie, although we totally should have, but we did grab a pretty hefty slice (along with a few other snacks)! You can get a slice of pumpkin rice krispies pie at Goofy’s Candy Company for $5.49. There’s no denying this treat is adorable! Pumpkin Pie Rice Krispies Treat But, how does it taste? The rice krispies in this treat are actually pumpkin spice flavored, which we thought was going to be awesome, but unfortunately it wasn’t all we hoped for. We found that the pumpkin spice tasted a bit strange. We were left wishing it had a bit more of that vanilla/marshmallow taste. Overall, though, it was okay. Pumpkin Pie Rice Krispies Treat We do think this would totally be a fun treat for kids! But, for those who are looking for a really well balanced treat with a more genuine pumpkin spice flavor, this is probably not the snack for you. Instead, we’d recommend one of the many other pumpkin spice goodies available in Disney! 7. BOO! Did we frighten you? Maybe a little bit? No? Well, with Halloween in full swing at Disney World, we’ve been feeling quite ‘spirited’ these days! And when it’s Halloween time at Disney World, there’s no shortage of seasonal food and drink items to liven us up! Halloween Minnie Mousse We’re back at Disney Springs today trying even MORE spooky snacks! We already tried the Halloween Minnie Mousse at Amorette’s Patisserie, and now we’re sinking our sweet tooth into even MORE ghoulish goodies. While some of the items we’ve spotted have been elaborate works of art, like the Minnie Frankenstein Piñata from The Ganachery, sometimes all you want is a simple snack with just the right amount of seasonal pizazz. If you’re searching for a classic, no-fuss-no-muss treat, look no further than Goofy’s Candy Company. Spider Web Mickey Cookie While we may be a bit hesitant to share our delicious Halloween sweets with others, this Spider Web Cookie may be a prime candidate for dividing amongst the masses. Spider Web Mickey Cookie That’s because this cookie is simply MASSIVE! Spider Web Mickey Cookie We love Disney’s seasonal Mickey sugar cookies because they tend to be pretty massive! This frosted sugar cookie is a great way to feed multiple mouths at the same time. By our official measurements, we can confirm that this cookie is literally the size of our head (yes, that is a proper unit of measurement when determining the size of Disney World snacks)! Spider Web Mickey Cookie If you need us, we’ll be spending the rest of the afternoon attempting to finish this gargantuan cookie. Pick one of these up at Goofy’s Candy Company. for $5.49. 13. Got plans to visit Disney World this year? Maybe you’re looking to join in on all the Halloween fun? Magic Kingdom Halloween Or, perhaps you’re looking forward to some Christmastime entertainment. Well, if you’re planning to visit the Most Magical Place on Earth this year, there’s one BIG thing that could derail your whole trip. Before the park closures, if you were planning a trip to Disney World, you mostly just needed to make sure that you had a valid park ticket for the park (or parks) you wanted to visit on a particular day. So, if you wanted to stop by Magic Kingdom for some corn dog nuggets, and then head out to EPCOT to eat your way around the world, you just needed to make sure you had a valid ticket that would allow you to enter Magic Kingdom and EPCOT on that particular day. Spaceship Earth When Disney World reopened, however, it introduced a Park Pass reservation system as part of its new safety measures to limit guest capacity in order to promote physical distancing. With it, guests are limited to visiting only one park per day. So, now, to enter a Disney World theme park — you must have a valid park ticket for that day, as well as a park pass reservation for the specific park you want to visit for the day. Park Pass availability can differ between those guests who are Annual Passholders, Disney Resort and other select hotel Guests, and guests who have regular theme park tickets. ©Disney Park Pass Availability Could Be A Problem! So you may be thinking — okay, no problem, I’ll just get my Park Pass as it gets closer to my trip and we’ve decided what parks we want to go to each day. And right after the parks reopened, that was often a very doable approach. But now, it’s not that simple. Park passes are getting harder to secure as the parks get more crowded, approaching the capacity limits. As pandemic numbers go down, crowds are increasing. And with the holidays coming — historically the MOST crowded time in Disney World — we’re already seeing signs that parks will indeed reach capacity limits. Park Pass availability has varied quite a bit over the last few months, and sometimes Park Passes have entirely sold out. Especially if you’re looking to go during a big holiday weekend, getting a Park Pass reservation can be a challenge! Sunset Boulevard So far, we’ve seen Park Passes sell out or become extremely limited (at least at certain points) for weekends and holidays like Labor Day weekend. Currently, Park Passes are unavailable for Annual Passholders for Hollywood Studios or Magic Kingdom on Halloween. Availability in October, in general, is also becoming more limited. Screenshot from Disney Park Pass Availability Calendar — Annual Passholders Some dates in November are filling up as well, especially for the days around Thanksgiving. Park Passes for some parks are unavailable for select guests during certain dates in November. Already, the calendar is showing that Disney Resort Guests cannot make reservations to visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios on November 27th. Screenshot from Disney Park Pass Availability Calendar — Disney Resort Guests Of course, this availability is always subject to change. Sometimes that can work in your favor. We’ve seen availability open up at certain parks for some guests even after the calendar showed that Park Passes were unavailable. We’ve also noticed that certain parks may still be available for reservations, even if the calendar shows they are full — so, it may be worth it to try and see what the system shows you when you actually go into your account to make the reservation. Hollywood Studios So, what do we recommend you do so you can (hopefully) prevent a lack of Park Pass availability from derailing your trip? A few main things: 1. Book Your Park Pass Reservations ASAP! We highly recommend you book your Park Pass reservations as soon as possible so you can hopefully secure your ability to visit the parks you want on the days you want. If you change your mind later, you can try to change your Park Pass through the system, so that’s an option if needed. It’s better to at least have something in place, rather than wait until later and run the risk that several of the parks become entirely unavailable. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge 2. Try to Actually Make a Reservation (Rather Than Just Go By the Availability Calendar) Like we said, we’ve sometimes been able to make a reservation at a park that the availability calendar shows is full — so, it’s worth it to try and see what the system shows you when you actually go into your account to make the reservation. 3. Keep Checking! If you couldn’t get a Park Pass reservation for the park you wanted on a particular day, keep checking for more availability! Availability has changed a LOT over the past few months, so be sure to check the reservation system to see if more availability has opened up for your trip. Mission Space in EPCOT We’re constantly checking the Park Pass availability calendar for major updates, so be sure to come back for all the latest. And, if you’re trying to make a Park Pass for a SUPER popular holiday weekend…may the Force be with you! Want more details on the Park Pass reservation system? Click here! 15. Did you happen to see the Halloween Candle Petit Cake we shared earlier this week? Black Flame Candle Cake from Amorette’s Patisserie at Disney Springs If so, that gives you an idea of the truly remarkable treats that are available at Amorette’s Patisserie in Disney Springs for the fall and Halloween season. (If you missed it, you can see it here!) Today, we’re back at Amorette’s once again, because there’s no shortage of stunning snacks where that one came from… we’re checking out the Halloween Minnie Mousse! Here she is!! Halloween Minnie Mousse We’ve seen Amorette’s bring out Minnie and Mickey Dome desserts in full-size cakes and more for the seasons, including Halloween. Below, for instance, is last year’s Minnie Pumpkin Cake. 2019 Pumpkin Mickey Dome Cake Minnie’s look this year presents the striking orange of the Dome providing the perfect background for the not-so-spooky Minnie Jack-O-Lantern face. In fact, she’s simply adorable. Halloween Minnie Mousse With chocolate ears (of very high quality, by the way) and a bow made of Candy Corn, our girl is dressed to impress, as always! Halloween Minnie Mousse Tucked underneath the glaze is a pile of pumpkin and marshmallow mousse, which sits atop a layer of carrot cake. Halloween Minnie Mousse Between the pumpkin mousse and the carrot cake, this dessert hits all those autumnal flavor notes! The only disappointment was that the layer of moist and tasty carrot cake was quite thin, because it would have been great to have more of it. But Minnie’s got something else in store… because also tucked inside the cake are crisp candy pearls providing a salted caramel surprise! Halloween Minnie Mousse Salted caramel is a great addition to just about any fall treat, but here it’s especially appreciated as the marshmallow in the mousse does make this one seriously sweet treat, so it provides a really nice balance. Overall, this creamy dessert is great for a Halloween sweet tooth! Halloween Minnie Mousse The Halloween Minnie Mousse is $9.00 at Amorette’s Patisserie, and will be available through November 2nd. See ALL of our fall and Halloween treat reviews right here! So stop on by and say, “Hello!” (and “BOO!”) to the too-cute Halloween Minnie Mousse while you can! 16. We’ve been carefully watching the construction progress over at Gideon’s Bakehouse in Disney Springs, eagerly awaiting the day when they’ll finally be open! Triple Chocolate Cookie Although Gideon’s is already selling its incredibly large cookies to its adoring fans in Orlando, the Disney Springs spot will be their first Flagship location. We don’t know exactly when they’ll be opening, but we spotted something new today that shows we’re one step closer to enjoying their delicious treats in Disney! As we were walking around Disney Springs today we spotted something new on the building that will soon house Gideon’s Bakehouse — a brand new sign! Gideon’s Bakehouse With Its New Sign Let’s get a closer look! The sign shows their “established date” as 1898 — click here to read more about the story behind Gideon’s and where that date comes from — and notes that we’ll find cookies, cakes, and curiosities inside! Gideon’s Bakehouse With Its New Sign In terms of cookies — we’re very familiar with the GIANT delicacies Gideon’s carefully crafts. From Peanut Butter Vanilla Crisp to Cookies and Cream, we’ve tried our fair share of these treats, and we can’t wait to sample many more! Peanut Butter Vanilla Crisp Cookie When Gideon’s Bakehouse opens in Disney Springs, guests will also be able to munch away on GIANT cake slices and enjoy special coffee drinks in a location that’s got quite the mysterious backstory. Gideon’s Bakehouse Peanut Buttercream Cake In addition, Gideon’s has noted that we can expect to find some one-of-a-kind, unique items made by local artists — like the handmade mugs they sell in their current shop — in their new location. So there you have it — cookies, cakes, and curiosities! Photo Credit: Gideon’s Bakehouse on Instagram We shared recently that Gideon’s announced that they were hiring for their Disney Springs location, so it seems as each day passes, we’re just a little bit closer to stepping inside cookie heaven. No official opening date has been set yet, but we’ll keep our eyes open for any updates and let you know what we find. Want to know more about the story behind this cookie conservatory? 17. It’s time to EAT! Another Taste of EPCOT Food & Wine Festival Booth is open, and we’re eating all the food on the menu! 2020 Booth One of our favorite booths from past Food & Wine Festivals has opened in Disney World so you know we made our way over to get a taste of alllll the yummy eats. Let’s give a big welcome to the Flavors from Fire booth — DFB style! The booth was hosted by College Gameday last year, but this year its host is The NFL on ESPN! You might notice a certain sports flare to all of the food and beverage names! Menu Let’s check out the tasty items we’ll be snacking on at Flavors from Fire this year! 2020 Menu Hmm…we’re intrigued — especially by that NEW S’mores Whoopie Pie-lon. We’ll have to see if it’s as good as it sounds. Food Without further ado, let’s dive into those eats! We picked up one of each food item to get an idea of ALL the flavors at this booth. Flavors from Fire First up, there’s The Corned Beef Corner Route (LOL) for $5.25. This dish will have you munching on smoked corned beef with crispy potatoes, cheese curds, pickled onions, and beer cheese fondue. Well, we only have one question for you. Have you ever heard us say no to beer cheese? The Corned Beef Corner Route The crispy potatoes and salty kettle chips made the perfect base for this dish. As always, that beer cheese was absolute heaven and this thing is LOADED with corned beef. Our only complaint? We could’ve gone for more cheese curds! This dish was so yummy, we recommend NOT sharing (but you can if you want). The Corned Beef Corner Route Next, there’s The Chimichurri-up Offense for $7. This dish is made with charred Chimichurri skirt steak on a smoked corn cake with pickled vegetable slaw and cilantro aioli. This one was as tasty as we remembered! There’s lots of smoky flavor in the corn cake and it’s actually really filling. Altogether, we’d call this an amazing bite! The Chimichurri-up Offense And now for the dessert you’ve all been waiting for — it’s the The S’mores Whoopie Pie-lon! You can snag this treat for $4 and expect to bite into smoked chocolate cake, graham cracker, marshmallow, chocolate ganache, and candied bacon. The S’mores Whoopie Pie-lon This little pie is SUPER rich. There’s a lot going on but every bite is just about perfect. Don’t expect to find any crunch from the graham cracker, but the soft sweetness still comes together well. The real star is definitely the bacon; those few bacon-y bites were easily our favorites! The S’mores Whoopie Pie-lon Plus, there’s that GENEROUS helping of marshmallow. There’s so much, we’d say it almost comes off like a light icing. The S’mores Whoopie Pie-lon Beverages Now, on to the drinks! At this booth, you’re able to try the Bell’s Seasonal Beer in a 6oz ($4.50) or a 12oz ($8.50), the Edmeades Zinfandel for $5, or the Swine Brine for $9.50. Yes, you heard us, Swine Brine. The Swine Brine This cocktail is Jim Beam Bourbon, mustard, and apple cider topped with a little piece of meat. Honestly, we were skeptical at first glance but it won us over in just one sip! This beverage is very cool and fresh. It’s a surprising option when it comes to festival drinks, for sure! The Swine Brine Wow! This returning booth did not disappoint! 24. We’ve been enjoying ALL the tasty things at the 2020 Taste of EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival and, we’ll just say, our stretchy pants have gotten a LOT of use lately! International Food and Wine Festival We heard that one of our favorite booths would likely be joining the festival today, so we made our way to EPCOT today to take a peek! It’s official — the Flavors from Fire booth is NOW OPEN! 2020 Booth Last year, the booth was hosted by College Gameday, but it appears this year it is hosted by NFL on ESPN. The menu has three food items available — The Corned Beef Corner Route, The Chimichurri-up Offense, and The S’mores Whoopie Pie-lon. Two of these are returning items from last year — the Corned Beef dish and the Chimichurri Steak dish — with some new pun-tactic names! Flavors from Fire But — we noticed two items from last year’s menu were missing! Last year’s Steakhouse Blended Burger (which was SO good) and Chocolate Picante, however, were not on the menu at this booth when we visited today. 2020 Menu Our full review of the food items from this booth is coming soon, so be sure to come back for all the delicious details!
