We’re making our way around Disney’s Animal Kingdom today, and having a fun adventure (even if it’s raining)! Tree of Life While we made our way to Expedition Everest to say hello to our old pal Disco Yeti, we found a bit of a pleasant surprise in the park. Although Thirsty River Bar and Trek Snacks has been half closed since the parks reopened (Trek Snacks has been open, but Thirsy River Bar has been closed), it had a random re-opening today for guests! You might know Thirsty River Bar and Trek Snacks as a great spot to grab a cool drink while you’re walking around Asia or home to some GREAT chocolate chip cookies. However, the quick-service location is operating differently than we’ve seen it before now that there are distancing measures and new health guidelines in place. Thirsty River Guests who pop over to the area will be asked to wait behind distancing markers until Cast Members can place their order. And note that Thirsty River is only operating with one side of its bar open at the moment! Thirsty River and Trek Snacks Line Previously, guests could come from either side of the stand to pick up drinks, but the side opposite of Expedition Everest is the only area available for guests to visit. However, BOTH sides of the Trek Snacks portion of the quick-stop spot are currently open. Thirsty River Along with distancing markers, plexiglass barriers and contactless payment are also being used at Thirsty River Bar and Trek Snacks (even though the Cast Members will still take cash). As for food, Thirsty River is serving up the Simba Pretzel, which has also returned to other locations around the park… Thirsty River …but Trek Snacks is serving up more treats next door, like hot dogs and lots of ice cream treats for everyone to beat the Florida heat! Trek Snacks And, to commemorate the occasion, we decided to get a snack and drink while we were at Thirsty River. Although the gorgeous pink colors of the Himalayan Ghost are enough to sell some folks on the drink, the flavors are worth the buy as well! Himalayan Ghost The Himalayan Ghost is mixed up with Snow Leopard Vodka, Guava, and Odwalla Lemonade for $13. While it’s raining today in the parks, we had our own little slice of paradise with the fruity and sweet flavors in this guest favorite pink drink!! Himalayan Ghost Now, if you’re heading to Animal Kingdom and DON’T get a Simba Pretzel, you might not be doing Disney the right way. ;D Simba Pretzel Of course, we were ready to dig into all that plastic cheese dip to go with our warm pretzel for a great snack to kick off our day for only $6.79. Simba Pretzel with CHEESE DIP Currently, Thirsty River Bar and Trek Snacks will open at 11 AM and close at least an hour before the park at either 4 PM or 5 PM according to Cast Members. However, there could be changes and modifications to these hours at a later time and date! Simba Pretzel and Himalayan Ghost Lots of spots around Disney World are reopening again! And, since Thirsty River Bar and Trek Snacks is so close to some of our favorite attractions in Animal Kingdom, you can bet your Simba Pretzels we’ll be back again soon. One of the best perks of being a Disney Visa Cardholder is being able to take advantage of special character meet and greets with photos at Disney Parks. However, when Disney World reopened, character meet and greets were no longer part of the Disney World experience due to new health and safety guidelines. Disney Visa Cardholder Photo Spot at EPCOT Because of these changes, many might assume that the Disney Visa Cardholder Photo Spots are no longer open, but we would like to remind you that this isn’t the case at all! We recently wandered into the Disney Visa Cardholder Photo Spot at EPCOT, and it’s still open to guests with a valid Disney Visa card. Disney Visa Cardholder Photo Spot at EPCOT The first thing we noticed is that it has been repainted since the beginning of the year (and we spoke to a Cast Member who confirmed this). There are also markers on the floor, indicating where guests need to stand to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Disney Visa Cardholder Photo Spot at EPCOT The Cast Member informed us that most people assume that the Photo Spot isn’t open because the parks aren’t currently having character meet and greets. But as you can see, it’s TOTALLY OPEN. And the cool thing is — you can still get a photo with characters here! Disney Visa Cardholder Photo Spot at EPCOT You’ll pose for your photo (sans characters), and then Disney will digitally enhance your photo download with the characters standing right next to you! Pretty cool, right? Disney Visa Cardholder Photo Spot at EPCOT And it’s totally free! All you have to do is show your Disney Visa card to get your photos. The EPCOT Photo Spot is open from 1PM to 7PM every day. The photo spot is located in the Imagination! Pavilion near the Journey Into Imagination with Figment attraction. Disney Visa Cardholder Photo Spot at EPCOT Although character meet and greets have returned to Tokyo Disneyland Resort, for now, Disney World is having awesome character cavalcades and unique character interactions instead. Halloween season is a monster’s time to shine! Mike Wazowski Dome Cake at Captain Cook’s This cutie consists of a milk chocolate cake dome with white chocolate icing made to look like the monster/comedian! And he’s got his one good eye on us! Mike Wazowski Dome Cake at Captain Cook’s We saw this cake last year at Kona Island at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, but that cake was covered with fondant. This year’s version has a layer of white chocolate icing on the outside instead — it’s softer than fondant and way easier to cut. Here’s the cake cut open from last year for comparison: Mike Cake from Kona Island 2019 And here’s the cake from this year. As you can see, the outside is definitely NOT fondant. The inside is a pretty standard milk chocolate cake. Mike Wazowski Dome Cake at Captain Cook’s We love the vibrant colors of this treat, but the cake is a little dry and there’s not a huge wow factor when it comes to flavor or texture. Is Mike worth the cost? Well, he’s not the most unique or delicious Halloween treat we’ve seen so far this year by far. The Halloween season has already been filled with Pumpkin Spice Sundaes, our favorite Disney characters dressed in costumes, and a crazy amount of merchandise around the parks too! Mickey’s Happy Halloween Cavalcade Buuut, there’s just something so magical about hearing “Boo to You” playing around the Magic Kingdom as we wear our best witchy get-ups. As we were walking down Main Street today, though, we heard familiar voices singing new spooky songs! And we’ll admit we were more delighted than terrified when we saw that the CADAVER Dans were out to give us some wicked harmonies in the park! Cadaver Dans!! Since the Dapper Dans have transformed into their ghoulish counterparts (we usually only see the Cadaver Dans out for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party), they traded out their regular colorful barbershop quartet outfits for much darker ensembles. The trolley will take the Cadaver Dans through a similar route to the parade routes as they come out near the train station and make their way down Main Street… Cadaver Dans Performance …before looping around in front of the castle so everyone has a chance to listen to their terrifyingly good voices! Cadaver Dans Performance Today, we were able to listen to the Cadaver Dans perform their “Happy Halloween” number with references to the “Boo to You” Parade and plenty of punny jokes (“What kind of pants does a ghost wear?” “What kind?” “BOO JEANS!”). However, they’ll be bringing the party to life in the Magic Kingdom with other fan-favorite songs like “Grim Grinning Ghosts,” “This Is Halloween,” and more throughout the Halloween season too! Will You Sing Along with Them? Our little Halloween loving hearts are just SO happy to see the Cadaver Dans back out to bring some holiday cheer (and fear!). Today’s another special day in the Magic Kingdom as the Cadaver Dans return to Main Street to sing some spooky tunes, along with all the other Halloween entertainment happening in the parks! Jack Skellington Disney has been creating new ways to celebrate the holidays, rolling out themed Character Cavalcades and allowing guests of all ages to wear their Halloween best (even the Cast Members). But, that doesn’t mean that the parks have curtailed their health and safety measures. Along with the health and safety notice signs placed throughout the park, Disney has also recently updated the overhead announcements to confirm lesser-followed required procedures in Disney World like wearing your mask over your nose and not lowering your mask for photos. And although the parks have extended their hours through November and December, Disney World is still operating with limited capacity. Guests are required to book a reservation through the Disney Park Pass system to visit the parks on their desired date. However, the reservation slots go pretty quickly with days completely selling out sometimes. sold out park passes As we made our way into the Magic Kingdom this morning, we noticed that a new sign had joined the health and safety notices at the entrance! While the statements about the need to wear a face covering, distancing, temperature screenings, and more details were still available for guests to read, a new sign about Disney’s park pass reservations was also located in front of the park. Disney’s Health and Safety Signs The sign provided information that guests must have both a theme park reservation and a valid ticket or pass to enter their desired park for the day. However, the sign also makes guests aware that there are no more Disney Park Passes available to enter any of the parks that specific day. Park Reservations Sign This is helpful for guests who don’t have a ticket yet, basically letting them know there’s no reason to purchase one for today. BUT — always check the availability calendar online before trusting this signage. At press time, checking the calendar, we saw that EPCOT still had availability today for regular ticket holders and resort guests. So cancellations are always happening and you may be able to snag a park pass at the last minute. Or perhaps Disney is putting out this sign knowing that EPCOT availability will sell out today at some point. Park Pass Availability Today Even though we haven’t seen this sign before, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it pop up in the other parks on the days that Disney has reached its reservation limit. For the third year in a row, Disneyland Paris celebrated its heritage and showcased the creativity and artistry that goes on behind-the-scenes as part of its Heritage Days. This year, the opportunity was virtual and accessible to all fans! Through exclusive videos, guests discovered the secrets of the costumes worn by famous Audio-Animatronics® figures and the artistic influences of Disneyland Paris through a short guided video tour of Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park, including Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, Discoveryland and Place de Remy. The tour provides an unprecedented spotlight on the technical know-how inherent to the resort. These videos are now available on the Disneyland Paris at Home website. Additionally, via Disneyland Paris’ Instagram, guests discovered an exhibition dedicated to past and present shows at Disneyland Paris, with many costumes and models presented by one of our Show Directors. During this session, Instagram followers had the opportunity to ask questions, which were answered live! Avocado Margarita La Cava just shared they’ve been hard at work on a TOMATO margarita. Crazy? They don’t think so! Judging by their level of enthusiasm on their Instagram post, they hope this savory drink will be ready for primetime SOON! Keep in mind, La Cava experiments with new flavors of drinks often and not everything ends up making its way to the menu. Hello, spooky season! Halloween is almost here, and we’re busy checking out all the Halloween decorations at Disney World, buying all the Halloween stuff, and eating all the Halloween snacks. Banana Cabana Pool Bar at Caribbean Beach Resort We’ve also been drinking all the Halloween drinks. Someone has to do it, right? And we found a SPPPOOOOKKKYYY drink at Banana Cabana Pool Bar at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort! We tried out the Spooky Rum Punch! Yes, they swung for the fences and gave this thing a really unique clever name ;). This drink has Caribbean rum, sour apple liqueur, and cranberry juice garnished with a Purple Poison Apple Novelty Glow Cube. Spooky Rum Punch from Banana Cabana Interestingly enough, though, this drink is a completely different color from the one in the photo Disney previously provided of it. That drink was purple and had a cherry on top. It looked more cranberry-ish. Grapeish? Definitely SOMETHING on the purple-red side of the color wheel. Check it out below: Spooky Rum Punch? ©Disney THIS drink though is GREEN. Like, old dirty SWAMP green! Honestly, it’s a more fitting color vibe for the season! Looking at the ingredients we’re not entirely sure how neon green liqueur plus red cranberry juice could possibly equal the picture above! Either way, it gives off a very Disney villain vibe — we’re thinking Dr. Facilier. Drinking this might call up our “Friends on the Other Side.” SPOOKY! Spooky Rum Punch from Banana Cabana As far as the taste of our not-so-purple swamp drink, it was very sweet and sour — maybe a little sweeter than we would normally drink. But it was perfect for the kind of drink you want to sip on while sitting by the pool in the Florida heat! Spooky Rum Punch from Banana Cabana The Cast Member we spoke to didn’t have the drink yet in the system at Banana Cabana, so she didn’t know its real price. When it comes to Captain Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort we often think of breakfast and that wonderful Tonga Toast! Captain Cook’s sign But when we need a mid-day or afternoon snack, there’s another dish that we totally prefer! That dish is the Pulled Pork Nachos. This is the stuff of our tropical dreams and it has yet to disappoint! Let’s break it down: loads of crispy housemade chips (a combo of kettle chips AND fried wontons!) topped with cheese, spicy mayonnaise, pulled pork, pico de gallo, and pineapple salsa. There’s plenty of food on that plate, so it’s actually more meal than snack! Pulled Pork Nachos from Captain Cook’s You can imagine how excited we were when we discovered that this dish had returned to Captain Cook’s in July! But it still wasn’t available on Mobile Order (Boo!) on the My Disney Experience App, although we could order it from the counter and get it to-go IF it was listed as available that day. But we checked out Captain Cook’s Mobile Order offerings today, and lo and behold, we saw the Pulled Pork Nachos! Captain Cook’s Pulled Pork Nachos on Mobile Order ©Disney Yes, that’s right! It’s beginning to look a lot like fall around Disney World, and that means we’re starting to see a ton of AMAZING fall-inspired snacks and drinks! And WE ARE SO READY! Fall Decorations at Disney Springs And it’s about to get even more fall up in here because several Disney Springs restaurants recently announced new fall cocktails! SIGN US UP! Morimoto Asia is channeling fall with its Fall Sake Sangria. This concoction is Asian pears, apple plum, tangerine juice, sake, light white wine, and plum wine. We like a lot of the other drinks here, so we’re looking forward to trying this one out!
