One of the first steps to planning a Disney World vacation is deciding when your vacation will actually be. There are many factors to consider when choosing the best time for your family, including school and work schedules, crowd levels, special events, and weather. If you end up heading to Disney World between June 1st and November 30th, you will be there for hurricane season. Rainy day at Hollywood Studios ahead of Hurricane Milton Now, that does not mean you should avoid that time period completely, it is six months out of the year after all! But, if you are planning a trip to Disney World during hurricane season, you will want to read this! Fans are sharing their experiences and tips, so you can be prepared for your vacation. First off, just because you are heading to Disney World during hurricane season does NOT mean you will even experience a hurricane while you are there. That is simply the time period during which hurricanes could occur. Being prepared either way is always a good idea, though! We asked our readers about their experiences at Disney World during a hurricane, and we think their stories will likely help you feel a bit more comfortable about booking a trip during hurricane season. Andrea has been through several hurricanes at Disney World, and she said it is the “BEST place to be!” Magic Kingdom before Hurricane Helene Allyson also agreed, writing, “Couldn’t have had a better and more relaxed experience. We felt safe and had everything we could possibly need. Food was available, entertainment, activities, and characters to pass the time and assure my kids! We had to extend our stay 3 days and were blown away at how inexpensive the added cost was. Disney does it right!” Disney World hotels are built to withstand hurricanes, and if Florida residents need to evacuate their homes, many book a room at Disney World because it is so safe. While experiencing a hurricane can be scary, the good news is that Disney World has been through its fair share of them, and Cast Members are prepared to keep everyone safe and as happy as possible. Disney World has plans in place for when a hurricane is coming through, and keeping everyone safe is a top priority. Rain on Main Street during Hurricane Idalia in 2023 Depending on the storm’s severity, the parks may close, and guests may be asked to remain at their hotels or in their rooms while the storm passes. Simon got caught in Hurricane Milton while staying at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort and “felt very safe.” They ordered pizza, drank prosecco in a Be Our Guest flashing cup, and watched Golden Girls on Disney+, waiting for the whole thing to blow over. He said it was a “memorable” experience. Oftentimes, Disney World hotels will offer special activities, including movies, character appearances, and more. Nicole wrote that at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort, they “handed out flashlights, made the arcade games free, and had extra characters coming around to engage with guests.” Emily shared that while they were at Disney’s Contemporary Resort during a hurricane, they even had parties for kids in the convention rooms. Additionally, the hotels will offer take-away meal boxes for purchase, so you will have food and water for the storm. Disney World closed due to Hurricane Milton in 2024 Hayden shared LOTS of great tips about being at Disney World during a hurricane. If you have park tickets that go unused, they are automatically extended for 12 months, so you don’t lose them. We always suggest booking through Disney or a travel agent who uses Disney’s systems, as Disney’s Hurricane policy is incredibly guest-friendly. If you book your trip through a third-party like Priceline or Expedia, you will have to go by their policies instead. After the storm has passed, Disney World usually reopens fairly quickly. Cast Members work fast to clear away any debris so you can return to your vacation. However, Melanie warned that if you think it won’t be busy right after a hurricane, you are very wrong! Magic Kingdom entrance the day after Hurricane Milton Hayden also shared a few negatives. You will need to remain in your hotel room while the storm is overhead, and you are asked not to leave under any circumstances. He also noted that sometimes there are long lines in the lobby, with concerned guests. Cast Members are often more used to dealing with storms, whereas guests who traveled to Florida may be feeling nervous. However, Hayden said that Cast Members were very patient and took each guest’s concerns seriously. Jessica also chimed in, saying, “I’d also recommend following a local Orlando meteorologist during your trip if a hurricane is expected. They are way less doom & gloom compared to out-of-state meteorologists who aren’t accustomed to tropical storms.” Magic Kingdom during Hurricane Debby Hurricanes can also make travel tricky and dangerous. Flights will often get delayed or canceled due to hurricanes, and driving can be especially dangerous. That is why we recommend having a bit of wiggle room in your travel dates if you are traveling during hurricane season. Be prepared for the potential for canceled or delayed flights! While it can still be frustrating when your travel plans get adjusted, it will be much less stressful if you already have a bit of built-in flexibility. Magic Kingdom during a hurricane While we know being caught in a hurricane can sound scary, the good news is that Disney World knows a thing or two about hurricanes! We hope these stories from our readers helped you better understand what a hurricane at Disney World is like. Disney World is getting more expensive this year, and you need to be prepared. Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Castle It’s getting harder and harder to afford a vacation to The Most Magical Place on Earth, and if you think you’re alone in that, you’re not! It’s not uncommon for Disney to raise prices year over year, and we’ve rounded up some very useful tips for saving on this year’s trip. Annual Price Increases It’s not a guarantee, but it’s a pretty common occurrence for Disney World to do annual price increases across property. These typically happen sometime in October and affect everything from park tickets to Annual Passes to hotel rooms to food to souvenirs. Seriously, it’s a LOT. Disney World merchandise So, yes, if it seems like your Mickey bars are costing more year-over-year, they probably are. Whenever price increases happen, we gather up all the details and share the news with our readers. So if you want to be in the loop, subscribe to our newsletter. Every Disney World 2027 Ticket Price Increase HERE! Tips for Saving on Hotels So now, let’s break down some tips for saving in each of those categories. First up, hotels! Resorts can be one of the more expensive parts of your trip, and the price will vary a LOT depending on where you choose to stay. The good news is that Disney World offers hotel discounts throughout the year — you just need to check the Special Offers page on their website. Port Orleans — French Quarter The best way to save on your hotel, though, is to travel during an “off” time. Typically, cheap windows to visit are late January, early February, parts of May, late August, and most of September. Make sure you’re choosing dates when there are no holiday weekends or major school breaks. Riviera Resort If you want to stay at a Disney Vacation Club Resort, you might want to consider renting DVC points from a reputable source (do NOT find a stranger on Facebook to do this and get scammed!). We’re also big fans of using a travel agent to book our trips. Our friends over at Small World Vacations have years of experience planning Disney vacations, and their services are completely free to use — if you book your trip and then a discount comes along, they’ll apply it to your trip for you! Should I Use a Travel Agent for My Disney Trip? Tips for Saving on Tickets The other big spend when going to Disney World is tickets! Sometimes Disney World offers ticket deals, but these are less common than hotel discounts. In 2026, Disney currently offers 4 ticket deals on its website: a military ticket, a Water Park Seasonal Pass, the Specially Priced After 2PM Ticket for early summer, and the 4-Day, 4-Park Magic Ticket. Disney World Theme Park Tickets But if you can’t take advantage of any of these offers, we’ve still got some tips for you. First, we tend to recommend people skip the Park Hopper add-on unless you want extreme flexibility for your visit. Usually, hopping around to multiple parks a day is too much for people (either on shorter OR longer trips), and it’s easier to just do one park a day. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Also, Disney World ticket prices are date-based, and the calendar on the website shows the starting price for each day. Usually, the starting price for single-day tickets is the price to visit Animal Kingdom, so make sure to click around to different days to see what the ticket price is for the other parks. Sometimes, a day that is cheapest to visit Animal Kingdom is NOT the cheapest day to visit Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, or Hollywood Studios. Pandora If you’re buying multi-day tickets, keep in mind that there’s a usage window for those tickets. Sometimes it’s cheaper to select a start date for the tickets that’s a couple of days before you arrive. As long as the usage window is still open on the days you want to visit, you don’t actually have to visit the parks on the first day of your ticket. Learn Everything You Need to Know About Disney World Tickets Here! Tips for Saving on Food The expense that can sneak up on you during your vacation is FOOD! There are so many delightful snacks and fun, themed restaurants in Disney World that it’s easy to get carried away. But don’t worry, we’ve got some tips to keep you grounded! For starters, you can choose to dine at restaurants that are outside of Disney World to save money. It’s not as magical, but it’s a good budget move. This is particularly helpful if you’re staying off property, though it’s doable if you have a car and you’re staying at a Disney Resort. It’s easiest to do this on your arrival day or your break day from the parks. Disney World entrance Also, we’re big fans of using grocery delivery to stock up on snacks and breakfast items for our hotel room, as well as things like bottled water and coffee. Here at DFB, we recommend Amazon Fresh, which can deliver directly to your resort after you arrive. That’s a lot simpler and cheaper than purchasing items at gift shops or in the parks and paying a premium. And this way, you won’t have to make a grocery run. Take those same snacks you order and then throw them in your park bag to keep spending down during the daytime! Learn More About Amazon Fresh Here! Tips for Saving on Souvenirs Last but not least, let’s chat about souvenirs. This one’s a little finicky because you’re either the person who doesn’t do much merchandise shopping on vacation or you’re the person who goes absolutely HAM in the gift shops. If you’re the second type, there are a few ways to limit your spending, starting with shopping outside of Disney World. Many local stores like Walmart and Target sell Disney merchandise in the Central Florida area, and the ones closest to Disney property have impressive stock for cheap. Target on 192 But it’s okay if that’s not your vibe and you want merchandise from Disney. You can also shop at the Disney Store online before your visit to choose a few select items, or set a shopping limit using Disney gift cards for each person in your party. All great ways to save. The Emporium It’s no secret that Disney World is expensive. But you can make it marginally less so if you set a budget and plan properly. Follow these tips, and you’ll be able to enjoy a much more affordable vacation! A Realistic Budget for Your Disney World Trip Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Uhm, hey Disney? Please don’t touch that. Disney World’s Haunted Mansion There is major work going on in Magic Kingdom, and we’ve been watching dirt move up and down for a while. While one of our favorite nearby classic attractions has had some work done, we’re starting to think it’s more extensive than we thought. The Haunted Mansion has been undergoing exterior work, so to combat this, they put up a whole poster of the ride’s front (cause you know, you can’t tell the difference, right?). Yikes! Well, our bestie @bioreconstruct on X (who posts the absolute best aerial photos) shared a photo of the manor, and it’s starting to look more intense than we thought. You can see scaffolding and scrims all around, and the brown coverings are protecting the roofs. ©bioreconstruct The ride is operating normally and doesn’t even have a message on the website saying there’s something happening, so it’s currently only exterior work. We wouldn’t be surprised if they do some sort of indoor refurb soon. Who doesn’t love a little spring refresh? Hatbox Ghost Now, next to the Haunted Mansion, there is Piston Peak, the new land replacing Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America. It’s themed to our favorite Pixar cars and will feature two rides, including a road rally racing one and a more family-friendly one. Piston Peak construction Because of this construction right next door, could Disney be retheming the sides of the mansion so it blends in better with the Frontierland theming? The Haunted Mansion is technically in Liberty Square, which doesn’t typically align with Frontierland’s theme, so we’re interested to see how Disney ties it all together. A peek at construction in Magic Kingdom! While we’re talking about construction, we can’t forget to mention Villains Land, which is going behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The land will have its own theme but will still be next to Frontierland, so the transition space between the lands will be interesting. What’s this? What’s this?! Believe it or not, it’s already time to start thinking about Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party 2026! Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party! Spooky season might still be months away, but Disney is already hard at work planning this year’s event. Speaking of which, Disney just announced the DATES for this year’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and we can’t wait to book our trip! This summer is set to be BIG in Disney World, for a number of different reasons! Disney Springs! Disney World usually has SO much going on, but this year? That’s been taken to a whole new level. We’re talking new attractions, experiences, rides, and so much more. Sometimes, it feels a little hard to keep up with it all. If you’re heading to Disney World this summer and need a bit of help keeping track of everything, we’re here to help break it down. In Disney Springs ALONE, these are the six things you can expect to see change this summer! Six Ravens Starting off strong, while we don’t have an exact opening timeline for it just yet, we’re really hoping to see Six Ravens open up in Disney Springs sometime this summer! ©Six Ravens This new shop is brought to us by the same creators of Gideon’s Bakehouse, but this spot will focus on hand pies called Coffyns. These will be homemade yeast rolls, complete with fillings created in partnership with other Central Florida chefs. While Gideon’s Bakehouse is all about the sweets, this spot will be savory-focused and will only be a few doors down from the iconic cookie and cake shop. Vans In a similar vein, we also know we’re getting a new Vans shop in Disney Springs sometime soon! Vans is coming soon! Again, this shop also doesn’t have an opening timeline, and since we only just saw the signs indicating what is on the way back in March, it’s entirely possible it won’t be open in time for summer. You can bet we’re crossing our fingers, though! LEVEL99 We DO know that LEVEL99 will be opening in Disney Springs this summer, though no official date has been set. Future location of LEVEL99 LEVEL99 is a “real-world, challenge-based, social entertainment” that features both physical and mental challenges for adults. It’s fun, fast-paced, slightly intense, and we think it’ll be a HUGE hit in Disney Springs. It’s basically a giant, futuristic arcade and entertainment center with over 60 challenge rooms and duels — what more can we ask for? Dance Party! Over at Disney Springs Marketplace on select nights, kiddos will love getting to take part in the new Dance Party on its way! Disney Springs It’ll feature songs from Descendants: Wicked Wonderland and Camp Rock 3 to celebrate the upcoming releases of both films on Disney+. As this is part of the Cool KIDS’ SUMMER event, we can guess that this will begin sometime around May 26th and end around September 8th. Flavors of Florida and Orlando’s Magical Dining While there are new monthly additions to Disney Springs restaurant menus each and every month, summer will be extra special thanks to the Flavors of Florida event! Flavors of Florida Dates aren’t totally set in stone for this event, but you can bet we’ll be keeping a close eye on the latest information to pass it right on to you. If you’re someone who loves Disney dining and exploring new eats, trust us when we say that this event is not one to miss! In a similar vein, Orlando’s Magical Dining usually comes back in August, and while dates haven’t been announced for this event this year either, we’re also keeping our eyes out. It’s almost summertime at Disney World, and you know what that means? It means rain…rain…and MORE RAIN! Shoe Covers If you’ve been in Florida during the summer, you know how unpredictable the weather can be. You need to bring those essential items that will keep you dry…but what about your shoes? Let us introduce you to one of our favorite essentials that we bring on every Disney World trip! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Get the Silicone Waterproof Shoe Covers Silicone Waterproof Shoe Covers Let us show you our Silicone Waterproof Shoe Covers! We’re not ashamed to admit it, we’re happy we broke down and bought a pair of these suckers, even if they look a little goofy. They really did the trick, despite us lowkey having ZERO faith in them at first glance. Easy does it! They actually do what they’re billed to do! It may be in your best interest to size up to alleviate any discomfort from the zipper top. But these really do work on a wet and rainy day. Silicone Waterproof Shoe Covers They work, but they’re not 100% fool proof, so you need to pay attention when you put them on. If you’ve got an open gap to the top, then you’re leaving room for rain to get in. When we walked against the rain instead of with it, we could tell rain was getting in simply because it was hitting our legs and trickling down. They look ridiculous…but hear us out. With as often as it rains in Florida, and to keep from having to deal with wet, smelly shoes during your trip or when packing up afterwards, these are absolutely worth it! It honestly made our trip so much easier. Oh, and the price is great as well. Y’all, it’s happening!!! ©Disney We’re screaming and crying because this is the BEST look we’ve gotten at the new Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets in Hollywood Studios, and if you weren’t excited before, I think these photos might turn that around. We just got a clear look at the iconic guitar outside the attraction. Disney has been working on repainting the classic red into a psychedelic color scheme that looks like it’s straight out of The Electric Mayhem. Looking great! There are still a lot of walls blocking the area, but we’re just getting SO excited. The colors look sharp and so bright, and we’re definitely going to need a PhotoPass stop right in front of it. We can’t wait to ride Disney already repainted the car outside the attraction, too, which definitely looks like they gave Animal a can of spray paint (in the best way, of course — we think Animal is an incredible painter). Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets The attraction opens on May 26th, which is less than a month away. We feel like we’ve been waiting forever, so we’re thrilled it’s finally happening. The set list for the ride was released, which includes: Song 2 — The Electric Mayhem Born To Be Wild — The Electric Mayhem ft. Camilla the Chicken Love Rollercoaster — The Electric Mayhem ft. Jennider Hudson & Questlove Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop) — The Electric Mayhem ft. Def Leppard Walking on Sunshine — The Electric Mayhem ft. Kelly Clarkson ©Disney We even got a look at inside the queue and loading zone, which is filled with lots of Muppet easter eggs, so you should probably rewatch a bunch of the movies and TV shows if you want to catch all the details. Of course, anyone can enjoy it without knowing the full background, but there’s something so fun about spotting the details everyone might be missing! Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets Queue ©Disney We’ll be there when the ride opens to share all the details with you, so make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more Disney news you just can’t miss. Disney World gets hot – and we mean uncomfortably sweaty mess hot. But with the help of this $13 mini fan, we’re staying cool from rope drop to fireworks! LACOVIA Mini Fan This portable misting fan is perfect to throw in your bag and head out to the parks. Plus, did we mention it’s Mickey-shaped? DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. The LACOVIA Cute Mouse Misting Mini Fan is perfect for your next park day! LACOVIA Mini Fan Who can resist the charms of a fan with Mickey ears that fits in your pocket?! This fan has 3 speeds, and also has feet for it to be sat on a table while you’re seated to keep the fan upright without tipping over, and it has a plastic cage around the actual fan part, so you don’t have to worry about a little one sticking their fingers in it. It’s also rechargeable with a USB-C charging cord that comes with it and lights up red while it’s charging. It’s fairly easy to work, and the back stick folds and rotates down so you can have a longer handle. LACOVIA Mini Fan The misting fan creates a small stream of mist from the center ring just under the fan, but it’s not the strongest, so you need to spray it relatively close to your face. While the water reservoir is small, filling it to the top lasts us for a week of spraying often. It also includes a dropper for the water reserve, so it’s easier to fill, and it’s small enough to take with you on the go. You absolutely need this fan for Disney World since it’s compact enough to fit inside even the smallest bags! view ON AMAZON We’re always on the hunt for the latest and greatest Disney souvenirs and essentials, so don’t forget to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for more! Celebrating Disney Week of Wishes Across Disney Experiences
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Blogs
During Disney Week of Wishes, we’re celebrating the extraordinary power of a wish — and the incredible Make-A-Wish kids who inspire us every single day. Did You Know? A Disney wish is granted every hour of every day! All week long, Disney Experiences around the world are coming together with Make-A-Wish to help make wishes come true for children facing critical illnesses. This page will be updated throughout the week with stories of courage, happiness, and imagination as Make-A-Wish kids and their families experience unforgettable moments across Disney Parks, resorts, and beyond. Since the first official wish was granted at Disneyland 45 years ago, Disney has worked with Make-A-Wish to grant more than 175,000 life-changing wishes around the world. Whether they’re stepping into immersive adventures, meeting beloved characters, or seeing their biggest dreams come to life, each wish is a powerful reminder that true heroism is found in bravery, hope, and heart. Check back all week long as we continue to share new stories from around the globe, each one celebrating the magic that happens when a wish comes true. April 27, 2026: Walt Disney World Rededicates the Newly Reimagined Wish Lounge In honor of Disney Week of Wishes, Walt Disney World recently rededicated the newly reimagined Wish Lounge at Magic Kingdom, a special space reserved exclusively for Make‑A‑Wish families to rest, recharge, and spend time together during their visit. At the center of the rededication celebration was Paxton – 6 years old, with a wish to visit Walt Disney World. He stood alongside his family, Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum, Walt Disney World President Jeff Vahle, and cast member and former Make-A-Wish kid Abigail to celebrate the magic the lounge will create for all of the wish families to come. The moment became even more special when Paxton’s favorite characters, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, surprised the group, turning the celebration into an unforgettable memory. Cast member Abigail, whose own wish trip brought her to Walt Disney World over a decade ago, first visited the Wish Lounge during her wish. After experiencing the lasting impact of her own trip, she knows how life-changing a Disney wish can be for kids with critical illnesses. Today, Abigail creates that magic herself and helps bring wish‑granting moments to life for other families as part of the more than 7,000 wishes granted at the resort each year. “As part of the entertainment team, I help kids and their families meet their favorite characters,” said Abigail. “It’s so special to be able to do that because that’s what the cast members did for me on my Make-A-Wish trip. So it really is a full-circle moment.” Recently refreshed with new artwork and thoughtful design details inspired by wish‑granting moments from beloved Disney stories, the Wish Lounge reflects the heart of a Disney wish, offering families a quiet, welcoming retreat during a day full of magic. Now open to wish families from around the world, the newly reimagined Wish Lounge stands as a place of comfort, hope, and joy, and a meaningful reminder of the impact wishes have every single day at Walt Disney World. Do you need a Lightning Lane strategy for Disney’s Animal Kingdom? I’ve got you covered! Attraction Sign at Animal Kingdom directing Guests to Standby Line and Lightning Lane Entrances We’ve used the various Lightning Lane systems in this park dozens of times (maybe even hundreds, at this point!), and we’ve got our strategy down to a SCIENCE. So here, I’m breaking down everything you need to know about Lightning Lanes in Animal Kingdom, and how to navigate your day with or without them. Do You Need Lightning Lanes in Animal Kingdom? The first question you’ve got to ask is “do you actually need to use Lightning Lanes in Animal Kingdom?” And unlike Magic Kingdom or Hollywood Studios, where there are a bunch of high wait times for popular attractions, this park is a bit easier to navigate. Honestly, in most cases, we tell people that they might not need to purchase a Lightning Lane option for Animal Kingdom. Kali River Rapids Lightning Lane sign in Disney’s Animal Kingdom This park doesn’t have very many rides, and several of them are easy to hop in line for during rope drop hours or at the end of the day. As long as you go into your park day with a strategy, you can probably conquer Animal Kingdom without Lightning Lane, given that it’s not the most crowded seasons of the year. However, if you want to use Lightning Lanes to make your day easier and your waits shorter, we’re here to break it all down. 50 Amazing Things You Never Knew Were in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lightning Lane Multi Pass Starting out the list of Lightning Lane options, we have Lightning Lane Multi Pass. This option is one price to access all but one Lightning Lane in the park. The price typically ranges somewhere from $16-$32 per person, per day for Animal Kingdom (pre-tax). You can purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass up to 7 days before your trip if you’re staying at a Disney Resort, and you can purchase up to 3 days before your visit to the park if you’re staying off-property. when and if you should use it, how much it typically costs, note that there are no tiers at this park, list all the Multi Pass options and which order you should choose them in Lightning Lane Entry With Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you’ll be able to choose 3 selections at the time of booking, then as you scan into a Lightning Lane in the park, you “free up” that slot and can book another. Unlike the other parks, there is no “tier” system for booking Lightning Lanes at Animal Kingdom, so you’re free to select any 3 options from the list for your initial choices. Na’vi River Journey In Animal Kingdom, the following attractions are available to book through Lightning Lane Multi Pass: Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain Feathered Friends in Flight! Festival of the Lion King Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond! Kali River Rapids Kilimanjaro Safaris Naʻvi River Journey Zootopia: Better Zoogether! Lightning Lane for the Festival of the Lion King Of these options, Na’vi River Journey is the clear first pick. It books up the fastest and has the longest wait of the attractions listed. Along with it, good options for your initial three picks include Kilimanjaro Safaris (the park’s flagship ride that often has a 30-60 minute wait), Zootopia: Better Zoogether! (the newest attraction on the list and fairly popular), or Kali River Rapids (if it’s hot outside, this one is BUSY). A giraffe on Kilimanjaro Safaris After those, Festival of the Lion King is the best choice of the theater shows because its theater often fills up. Using Lightning Lane there means you’ll get a better seat and make it into that particular show. Just keep in mind that Lightning Lanes typically have 60 minute return windows, but for shows with dedicated showtimes, they’re often shorter than that. Expedition Everest could also be a good second-round pick if you’re a thrill junkie. This ride, however, doesn’t usually get a super-long wait because it loads quickly, and it also has a fairly effective single rider queue. Here’s the Full Guide to Lightning Lane Multi Pass in Disney World Lightning Lane Single Pass Moving on to the next option on our list, it’s time to talk about the most popular ride in the park! Lightning Lane Single Pass is a single-use Lightning Lane for each park’s most popular attraction(s), and in Animal Kingdom, you can use this to ride Avatar Flight of Passage. Yes, that’s the ride where you board a banshee and fly over Pandora. It’s VERY popular. Flight of Passage entrance Flight of Passage often has waits of over an hour, and it can get a multi-hour wait on busy days. The queue is also fairly brutal because a large portion of it involves standing in the sun outdoors. Those things add up to make Single Pass a very popular purchase at Animal Kingdom. Like Multi Pass, you can buy this one 7 days before your trip if you’re staying at a Disney Resort and 3 days before your park visit if you’re not. When you purchase, you’ll select a return window during which you’ll go to the ride entrance and scan in at the Lightning Lane. The price for this typically ranges from $16-$19 per person, per day (pre-tax). “And, uhh… FLY!” Probably the most popular Lightning Lane strategy for Animal Kingdom is to skip purchasing Multi Pass and only purchase Single Pass. That alone could save you more than an hour of park time. If you’re planning to visit during a busy season, the Single Pass for Flight of Passage can sell out ahead of time, so know if you plan to purchase it when your booking opens. See Our Guide to Using Single Pass in Disney World Here! Lightning Lane Premier Pass Finally, there’s Lightning Lane Premier Pass, Disney World’s fanciest Lightning Lane offering. This one will run you anywhere from $139-$199 per person, per day (pre-tax), and it allows access to ALL Lightning Lanes in the park, without having to reserve times to visit attractions. Expedition Everest Lightning Lane The beauty of this system is that you simply purchase it (7 days in advance for Disney Resort guests, 3 days in advance for those who aren’t) and then use it. You can scan into any of the Lightning Lanes at any time the attraction is open with one Lightning Lane access per attraction, per day. It’s easy to use, but it’s very expensive. Pandora Really the only times we’d recommend purchasing this is if you’re visiting Animal Kingdom during a particularly busy season, or if you have the space in your budget and want to have as smooth an experience as possible. Using Premier Pass would likely make it easy to do the entire park in half a day, so it could fit well for that purpose if you have the funds. See Our Complete Guide to Premier Pass Here! Tips for Doing Animal Kingdom Without Lightning Lanes Now, on to the good stuff! If you’re not interested in spending the money on Lightning Lanes for Animal Kingdom, you definitely don’t have to! Here are my suggestions for navigating the park without it. The main key here is maximizing your time in the park. Animal Kingdom is typically pretty quiet when it first opens in the morning (it opens earlier than the other parks) and it also tends to calm down quite a bit at the end of the day (since there aren’t many attractions in the park right now, people leave early). Therefore, you’ll want to concentrate the most popular rides during those times. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Pandora is the most popular part of the park right now, so you’ll either want to use Early Theme Park Entry and rope drop Flight of Passage, followed by Na’vi River Journey, or do them in the last two hours of the day when wait times drop. You can get in line for rides right up until park closing time, no matter the wait time. The floating mountains in Pandora Other popular attractions to knock out when wait times are low are Zootopia: Better Zoogether! and Kilimanjaro Safaris. The safari typically closes early, so that’s not one you’ll want to save until the very end of the day (check the day’s operating hours in the My Disney Experience app). For Expedition Everest, I recommend using the single rider queue if your party is fine with splitting up, and Kali River Rapids isn’t usually too long of a wait unless it’s the hottest part of the day. Zootopia: Better Zoogether The theater shows are best saved for the middle of the day when attraction wait times are high. They have limited showtimes, so make sure to check the app for those as well. The middle of the day is also a great time to squeeze in some character meet-and-greets. Carl and Russell With those tips in mind, you can totally conquer Animal Kingdom without Lightning Lanes, but if you choose to use the system, make sure you use it wisely! For over 75 years, the artists at Walt Disney Imagineering have crafted Disney’s theme parks, resorts, and rides. Artists like Rolly Crump, Tony Baxter, and Marc Davis – among hundreds of others have imbued the company’s rides and attractions with grandeur, magic… and secrets? Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind From references to past attractions that have been replaced to tributes to other Imagineers, these tiny references are hidden inside some of Disney’s most famous rides. Most of them aren’t even noticeable to the naked eye, but for guests who know where to look, they add another layer to Imagineering’s rich history. Toad Hall Still Stands The Magic Kingdom’s Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh somewhat controversially, replaced Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride over 30 years ago. However, a reference to the former attraction is still present. As you’re heading into Owl’s house on the Fantasyland attraction, look to your left, and you’ll notice a photo of Mr. Toad handing the deed for the attraction over to Owl. Portrait of Mr. Toad in The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh 20,000 Leagues Sails On The 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Submarine Voyage was a staple attraction at Walt Disney World from its opening day in 1971 through 1994. These days, the site that was once occupied by the massive attraction is currently home to Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid. On the latter attraction’s queue, a carving of the iconic Nautilis can be seen embedded in the rockwork. Can you see it? “No One’s Gonna Stop Rock & Roll – or Ellen’s Energy Adventure – from Existing!” Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind has several references to both its immediate predecessor, Ellen’s Energy Adventure, as well as the Universe of Energy. These include: A column inside the ride featuring script written in the fictional Xandarian language. If you translate it to English, the top left says Ellen, the top right says Alex (as in Alex Trebek — who was also featured in the ride), the bottom left says E=MC squared, and the bottom right says dino. In addition, if you look closely at a set of ship schematics featured in the second pre-show room, at the bottom right, you can see the old Universe of Energy symbol. During the ride, you can also hear a bit of what sounds like an electric guitar version of the old Universe of Energy theme song as the Guardians “fly” into space right at the start of the ride. Listen for when the Celestial says, “What is that noise?“ just before the launch. Finally, during the reverse launch, there’s another reference to some dialogue straight from Ellen’s Energy Adventure, which involved Ellen mishearing Bill Nye talking about the Big Bang. If you listen closely, you’ll hear Star-Lord say “Big Bang!” followed by Drax asking, “Ding dang?” Can you see it? It’s Mary Blair’s World After All The legendary Mary Blair was the creative spearhead behind the iconic look of “it’s a small world”, designing the whimsical doll-like, color palette, and overall design sense that would be used for the ride. As Imagineer Rolly Crump put it, “I knew it was only going to work if everything looked like Mary Blair. As far as I was concerned, this is a Mary Blair ride.” ©D23 Crump and his team took things even further, inserting a tribute to Blair into the Disneyland attraction (yes, this is a cheat) itself with the inclusion of a doll located atop the Eiffel Tower in the French section with the likeness of Blair and a costume inspired by her clothing choices. ©Disney Disney Imagineers have a long history of dropping hidden secrets and references into many of the company’s attractions.
