  3. Menu news just keeps coming! Slowly but surely, menu details are trickling out about this the food and drink options for the 2015 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival. Just a couple of days ago, we shared with you some of the new food items that are scheduled to appear in the Outdoor Kitchens around World Showcase. Today we’re bringing you an update on a few of the drinks you can look forward to sampling! And check out a beautiful and delicious dessert option in France — plus some fun news about FREE cooking demos at this year’s Festival! New Flavors at France’s Fleur de Lys Outdoor KitchenWe were thrilled to bring you a first look at a fun new option debuting in the Fleur de Lys Outdoor Kitchen. And today, we have another gorgeous pic to share! I had the chance last week to sample a couple of the new offerings that will be at the Fleur de Lys Booth this year! The Ice Pop features a combination of French Peach Iced Tea, Grand Marnier Peach Raspberry Liqueur, and Vodka. It’s going to be perfect for those warm Florida Spring days! You can absolutely taste the Grand Marnier and Vodka in this one! It’s amazing — even if you’re not an iced tea fan! And the texture isn’t exactly “frozen” due to the alcohol, so it’s very easy to eat. A Grown-Up Ice Pop Debuts at the Fleur de Lys Outdoor Kitchen in the France Pavilion And while we told you about the brand new Macaron Guimauve à la Fraise (Strawberry Marshmallow Macaron) that will be offered at Fleur de Lys, today I’m sharing a first look! Macaron Guimauve à la Fraise (Strawberry Marshmallow Macaron) It’s a great celebration of the fresh Florida Strawberry Season that’s underway right now. The crunchy-and-soft cookie and the marshmallow are super-sweet, but the strawberry inside is still a bit tart. It’s an amazing contradiction in flavors. New Beverages Coming to the 2015 Epcot Flower and Garden FestivalThe name of the game is Fresh Flavor in the Outdoor Kitchens for 2015. Look for fruits and veggies to be featured everywhere — even in the libations! Key Limen Wine from Florida Orange Groves has been a Festival feature in the past (we’ve seen it at the Food and Wine Festival, too). But this year, there might be something a little different on the horizon, as Key Lime Sparkling Wine is set to debut at the Florida Fresh Kitchen. We are also looking forward to another fun fruit-based option — Ace Pineapple Hard Cider. Ace Pineapple Hard Cider — the First Pineapple Cider in the World and Perfect for the Flower and Garden Festival! In addition, there will be a Sparkling Pineapple Wine; look for both at the Pineapple Promenade Kiosk. New cocktails are also set to debut. We’re getting our first look at the La Tizana that we told you about previously. A fruit punch that’s inspired by the flavors of Venezuela, the bright punch includes Orange Juice, Lime Juice, Banana Puree, and Grenadine. It’s garnished with chopped fresh fruit. Find it at the Bonitas Botánico Outdoor Kitchen, a new booth to the Festival this year. Edgy Urban Eats will feature the Urban Mary, which takes cues from the classic Bloody Mary recipe. Spicy Tomato Juice, Lime Juice, and Worcestershire are mixed together and garnished with a Pickled Green Bean and Micro Greens. New Beverages Set to Debut at the 2015 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival Include Pineapple Cider, La Tizana, and an Urban Mary And something that we love this year — La Tizana and the Urban Mary are available with or without alcohol, so you can enjoy the beverages regardless of your preference. Opt for a splash of RHUM Orange Liqueur to La Tizana, or add shot of Vodka to the Urban Mary. Look for lots of interesting Craft Beer options as well, like the Shipyard’s Maple Bacon Stout at Barbecues and Brews. Fresh Flower and Garden Beverage Options in the Mexico PavilionThe Mexico Pavilion will also provide market-inspired fresh flavors in some of their artisan Margaritas. We’re looking forward to sampling the Blueberry Pomegranate Margarita at Jardin de Fiestas Outdoor Kitchen in the Mexico Pavilion. Other fun options that will be available include a Tequila Liqueur Flight and Tecate Beer with Patron Citronage Floater. Mexican Sangria, one of our favorite beverages from last year, also returns. But also, be sure to stop by La Cava del Tequila (as if I have to tell you that. ). For a limited time, they’ll be offering their beautiful Hibiscus Margarita! Hurry if this is a favorite of yours — it’s only available while the Festival is happening. NEW! For Flower and Garden 2015 — Cooking Demonstrations! For the first time, Disney Chefs will also be staging cooking demonstrations during the Flower and Garden Festival. And the best part — the demos are free! Chefs will be showcasing Festival Dishes, like the Piggylicious Cupcake, White Corn Arepas, and the Ghost Pepper-Dusted Tilapia. Ghost Pepper-dusted Tilapia The events take place each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 3PM at Port of Entry, near the entrance to World Showcase, and will last for approximately 15 minutes. Whew! It’s going to be here soon — and it’s shaping up to be a delicious Spring at Epcot! 8. With National Margarita Day just around the corner on February 22, I wanted to share some of my favorite unique margaritas across Walt Disney World Resort. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, head over to The Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge, where you can enjoy the ‘Citizens Take Flight’ tasting of three margaritas on the charming patio. These sips have character! Sample Bucky Greenhorn’s Derby Margarita, Melivan Macheezmo’s Mango Margarita, and Ready Freddy Fiddlesticks Pomegranate Margarita. While Cava del Tequila will be a popular spot on National Margarita Day, I enjoy gazing out at World Showcase lagoon at La Hacienda de San Angel while sipping on an Orange Mango Fire Margarita, premium silver agave tequila, ginger liqueur, orange juice, mango puree, fresh lime juice and a hint of Tabasco sauce, served on the rocks with a Tajin chili powder rim. Another delightful take on the margarita is the Italian Margarita found at Gelati in the Italy Pavilion, crafted with frozen limoncello and grappa. Parks aren’t the only places you can find one of these satisfyingly sour sips, pick up a drink at BoardWalk Joe’s Marvelous Margaritas for a leisurely stroll around the BoardWalk on a hot day. Relax after a day in the parks at Rix Lounge at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. Their Margarita Flight lets guests sample their five handcrafted margaritas: mango blueberry basil, classic, hibiscus, pineapple and jalapeno. At Whispering Canyon Cafe, you can sip on a Moonshine Margarita made with Troy & Sons Platinum Moonshine, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, fresh lime juice and agave nectar topped with soda water. Across property, try the Grand Margarita, with Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila, Grand Marnier, fresh lime juice and sweet-and sour, available at most pool bars. Another popular sip is the Habañero Lime Margarita, on the menu at several lounges and restaurants. In the “spirit” of National Margarita Day: Coming this spring, look for a new place to enjoy an adult beverage while watching the sunset at Downtown Disney Marketplace. 12. We are happy to start a little early celebrating National Margarita Day tomorrow, February 22! Now, this is a holiday I can get behind!!! If you’ve been here for any amount of time at all, then you know I lurve a good Margarita. (If you’re new here at DFB — welcome…and FYI, I love margaritas!) And some of my very favorites can be found right at Walt Disney World. Grab some limes and tequila and let’s take a look at our must-drink margs! Avocado Margarita at La Cava del TequilaThe Aguacate — Avocado Margarita — from La Cava del Tequila has been one of my very favorites from the first time I sampled it! It’s a wonderful, made-to-order concoction that blends Avocado, Lime Juice, White Tequila, and Melon Liqueur for a flavor that’s like no other! Avocado Margarita My favorite thing about this drink is the perfect balance of the creamy consistency with a sweet flavor — not to mention the tequila :-). A little Agave Nectar and the liqueur balance the flavors nicely. And thanks to an awesome reader, you and I can even make this one at home today with this recipe, and celebrate this holiday in style! Blood Orange Margarita at Flying Fish CafeBlood Orange is one of my favorite flavors. After all, with the complex, less sweet, almost bitter taste it imparts, it’s a little more interesting than plain old orange…orange. And it’s especially delicious when paired with other flavors in a margarita. We’ve enjoyed versions of this festive cocktail at San Angel Inn Ristorante, but my favorite one can be found at Flying Fish Cafe. Blood Orange Margarita If you’re anything like me, if you order this, it’ll be gone pretty quickly! SO good! Italian Margarita at Via NapoliOne thing that you can count on at Disney when it comes to food and drink is a fun, fusion approach to some of your favorites. Case in point: the Italian Margarita in Epcot’s Italy Pavilion! I first discovered this delicious drink at Via Napoli, the Italy Pavilion’s fantastic spot for pizza. Italian Margarita But it’s proven to be so popular, it’s also been available at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival in recent years! And fortunately, you can still order it at Italy’s Gelato Stand. Italian Margarita at the Food and Wine Festival’s Italy Booth! Flavored with a smooth combination of Limoncello and Grappa, it’s a nice Italian take on a beloved classic cocktail. Malawi Mango Margarita at SanaaThe exotic cuisine of Animal Kingdom Lodge’s Sanaa demands an equally exotic drink in hand. Sanaa is one of my favorite restaurants in all of Disney World. Located in Kidani Village, it offers some amazing eats that fuse together the complex flavors of India and Africa. (Check out a review of our most recent meal at Sanaa here.) The first time I spied the frozen Malawi Mango Margarita on the menu here, I knew I had to check it out! Its smooth, super sweetness makes it a great combination with some of the spicy menu options. Mango Margarita The secret ingredient is Van der Hum Tangerine Liqueur from South Africa! Orange Mango Fire Margarita at La Hacienda de San AngelFor something a little out of the ordinary, I love to mix a little fire with my ice! And the best way to do that margarita-wise is with a Orange Mango Fire Margarita from La Hacienda de San Angel. Located waterside in Epcot’s Mexico Pavilion, grab one of these as you watch Illuminations come alive over World Showcase Lagoon. An unexpected combination of Silver Tequila, Ginger Liqueur, Orange Juice, Mango Puree, and Lime Juice, it’s a perfect combo of sweet and sour. The spicy kick comes from hint of Tabasco Sauce and a Tajin Chili Powder rim. Orange Mango Fire Margarita at Epcot’s La Hacienda de San Angel It’s hot and cold at the same time! Margarita Flights! What do you do when you know you’d like a margarita, but you just can’t decide which one to choose from all of your options? I know. Life is full of hard decisions. Personally, that’s when I go for a fun Margarita Flight! This uber colorful version is available at a few different spots around property. It might disappear from menus from time to time, but we’ve seen it at Maya Grill and Rix Lounge at Disney’s Coronado Springs, as well as at La Hacienda de San Angel in Epcot’s Mexico Pavilion. (Sometimes, this version also appears on La Cava del Tequila’s menu.) Margarita Flight You can also find a flight of delicious margarita options — complete with awesome names — at the Hollywood Brown Derby in Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Brown Derby Citizens Take Flight Margarita Flight — Bucky Greenhorn’s Derby Margarita, Melvin Macheezmo Mango Margarita, and “Ready” Freddy Fiddlesticks Pomegranate Margarita This one is pretty generous though, Friends. Plan on sharing! Twisted Margarita at Paradiso 37One of our favorite spots to stop for some delicious bites and drinks in the middle of the day is Paradiso 37 in Downtown Disney. This restaurant specializes in tastes of the Americas — like, all of them! So you get an interesting menu that features specialties from North, Central, and South America. And the gorgeous, backlit tequila bar lets you know what you can expect from the drink menu! My favorite version of this Mexican-inspired drink is the Twisted Margarita. The icy drink features a twisty mix of Frozen Margarita and Frozen Sangria. Twisted Margarita at Paradiso 37 Grab a plate or two of their killer Crazy Corn and a table by the water, and you have the makings of a perfect afternoon. Frozen Strawberry Margarita at Epcot’s Margarita StandOur final destination takes us to the grandfather of all margarita spots — the place that arguably started it all. Because no tour of Disney margaritas is complete without a stop by Margarita Stand in Epcot! What you find here won’t equal the gourmet, artisanal margaritas like the ones from La Cava del Tequila. But they’re frozen, cold, strong, and festive. In other words, they shout “I’m on vacation!!” Loud and clear! Flavors change frequently here, but you can almost always count on there being a traditional lime flavored option, as well as Strawberry. Strawberry Frozen Margarita from Mexico’s Margarita Stand This is your go-to margarita option when convenience and strength are tops on your list! Enjoy a Special Margarita Day Sampler Flight This Sunday at La Cava Del Tequila!Just in time for Sunday’s celebration, La Cava del Tequila, the muy popular spot for grabbing your favorite tequila drinks in Epcot’s Mexico Pavilion, will offer a Flight that includes some of its most popular Margaritas! Enjoy a Special Margarita Flight of Some La Cava Favorites in Honor of National Margarita Day! Order this special flight on Sunday and enjoy 8-ounce versions of all three — Avocado, Jalapeño, and Blood Orange Margs! We love all three, so I’m pretty sure this is reason enough to jump on a plane and head for Florida. And that’s not all — stay tuned for some big news about special offerings from La Cava del Tequila coming soon to the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival, which kicks off March 4! Are you inspired to head out for a round of margaritas this evening, or will you be mixing up a pitcher at home for your very own margarita party? Either way, I’m raising my fancy margarita glass with you in celebration of this fabulous cocktail that says fiesta like no other! Want to see even more Disney Margaritas? 14. There are so many attractions at Walt Disney World Resort, and sometimes as a parent it can be tough to determine which ones are a good fit for younger children. Once I had kids, I was pleasantly surprised at just how many rides and experiences are available for everyone, including the littlest members of the family. There are 25 attractions without any height requirements at Magic Kingdom Park alone! Once your baby grows into a preschooler, there is even more fun to be had on rides for slightly taller kiddos. We rounded up height requirements from the most popular attractions in all four theme parks and put them into handy charts to help you plan ahead. For Disney’s Hollywood Studios, click here. For Epcot, click here. For Disney’s Animal Kingdom, click here. Once in the parks, be sure to check out the My Disney Experience mobile app for height requirements, thrill levels, wait times and more, all while on the go. If you are dying to check out a thrill ride and your youngest isn’t quite there yet, your family may be able to utilize Rider Switch, which allows adults to take turns riding the attraction without waiting in line all over again. 17. We promised a peek at the new beverages for this year’s Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, fruit-based sips like Key Lime sparkling wine from Florida Orange Groves at Florida Fresh Outdoor Kitchen and Ace Pineapple Hard Cider and sparkling pineapple wine at Pineapple Promenade. Among new craft cocktails, we can’t wait to taste: La Tizana cocktail at Botanas Botánico and the Urban Mary at Urban Farm Eats. “La Tizana is a Venezuelan-influenced fruit punch made with orange juice, lime juice, banana puree, grenadine and garnished with a tropical fruit medley of diced pineapple, mango, strawberries and oranges,” explains Marianne Hunnel, content development manager and beverage expert extraordinaire. For an adult version, you can add a splash of RHUM Orange liqueur from Santa Teresa, Venezuela. “The Urban Mary is a tomato beverage made with spicy tomato juice, lime juice and Worcestershire sauce, garnished with a pickled green bean and micro greens,” Hunnel continues. Adding a shot of vodka is an option. Craft beer is back in a big way, with new additions like Maple Bacon Stout, being brewed right now at Shipyard Brewing Company in Clearwater, Fla., to be released on opening day of the festival. Try it in a flight at The Smokehouse: Barbecue and Brews. And one of the most whimsical takes on grown-up tastes is the new “Ice Pop” at Fleur De Lys in France, flavored with peach iced tea mixed with Grand Marnier Peach Raspberry (a limited-release spirit) and a splash of vodka. “It’s frozen, but not solid, so it just melts in your mouth – refreshing!” says Eric Weistroffer, general manager of Chefs de France. New this year are free cooking demonstrations at 3 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through May 17 at Port of Entry at the entrance to World Showcase. If you’re there for the weekend, plan a short stop. The demos are just about 15 minutes, and it’s your chance to meet a Disney chef and watch how to prepare a delicious dish. Just some festival items to be featured at the demos will be the Piggylicious Bacon Cupcake, the ghost pepper-dusted tilapia, and white corn arepas. You can also pick up a copy of the Taste of Epcot festival cookbook with plenty of recipes to try at home. For more information, call 407/W-DISNEY (934-7639) or go to epcotinspring.com. 18. Spring is in the air. Well, at least it is here at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and that means Atlanta Braves spring training must be right around the corner. The first wave of Braves players begin training this weekend and the first full-squad workout is February 26 with the home opener set for March 4 against the New York Mets at Champion Stadium at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort. The Braves’ 18th spring training season at Disney will involve an 18-game home schedule that provides fans with an up-close and personal experience when the Braves take on marquee teams such as the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers and the Washington Nationals. And March 21 will be Military Appreciation Day when the Braves and Disney honors our veterans during the game against the Nationals. Most games start at 1:05 p.m. ET, but there are four night games starting at 6:05 p.m. And in typical Disney fashion, there will again be loads of Disney entertainment, special fan experiences, unique food & beverage offerings and the opportunity for kids to run the bases after every game, which has become a popular tradition. To get you excited about spring training, check out this cool time-lapse video: Individual game tickets are on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets and at the sports complex box office for as little as $14. 21. Our baby boom continues! Join us in saying, “Afya njema!” to wish the newest baby at Disney’s Animal Kingdom “good health” in Swahili. Earlier this month, a white rhino, also a first-time mom born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 2005, gave birth to a healthy baby boy! The new baby’s grandmother was also born at the park and regularly roams the savannahs of the Harambe Wildlife Reserve, making this new calf the third generation of white rhinos born here. The new mom is being appropriately protective of her son, but our animal care team has been keeping up with mother and child to assure that both are thriving! Despite their name, white rhinos are actually grey in color and sport two horns on their large head. These horns are made of fibrous keratin, just like our fingernails. While rhinos have good hearing and sense of smell, they have poor vision and cannot discern a motionless person at a distance of more than 100 feet. Native to central and southern Africa, the white rhino loves grassy areas and will graze several times a day. This mild-mannered animal usually keeps its family group small and tightly-knit. Rhinos are born weighing up to 143 pounds. (Talk about a big baby!) Fully grown females will grow to be anywhere from 3,000 to 4,000 pounds while adult males can be up to 5,000 pounds. This new rhino calf is the ninth white rhino born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and we are happy to see our herd of rhinos continue to grow. Unfortunately, this has not been the case in the wild. Last year, rhinos faced the worst poaching in history, leaving the northern white rhino extinct in the wild. Its cousin in the south, appropriately named the southern white rhino, is severely endangered and without continued conservation efforts, will meet the same fate. Several cast members at Disney’s Animal Kingdom are board members for the International Rhino Foundation (IRF) and work closely in efforts to help protect rhinos in the wild. The Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF) also contributes to rhino conservation, research and habitat protection projects for rhinos throughout the world. As a guest, there are plenty of ways you may have contributed—adding a dollar to your purchase, picking up a sponsored pin or merchandise item, enjoying the Wild Africa Trek excursion at Disney’s Animal Kingdom or snorkeling at The Seas with Nemo & Friends. Every donation, big or small, adds up and is combined with support from Disney, which in turn has given all of us something amazing to celebrate. The celebration of our newest baby birth will continue for months to come and be sure to look for both mom and baby to join the rest of the herd on the savannahs of Kilimanjaro Safaris over the next few months.
