  4. Our newest app, Show Your Disney Side, is now available for download and we think it’s going to be one of your favorites. The app brings your Disney Side – that side of you that comes out to play the moment you step through the gates at Disney Parks – to life like never before, transforming you into characters from our most popular park attractions and experiences. With the Show Your Disney Side app, you can become an X-Wing Pilot from the Star Tours – The Adventures Continue attraction, a swashbuckler from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, a princess from “Frozen” and even a favorite Disney villain, Maleficent. And If you visit Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort, you can unlock special Haunted Mansion characters like the Hitchhiking Ghost and Madame Leota. It’s also possible to unlock these special characters by sharing three creations on Facebook or Twitter. Once you download the app from the Apple iTunes store, facial mapping technology transforms you into a 3D moving character. To begin, the first step is to snap a selfie or have someone take a photo of your face. Here are a few tips: Smile big – but without your teeth showing.Make sure your hair isn’t blocking your face.Try to take your photo in front of a plain background. You can personalize your Disney Side character with different costumes and frames. Then, by tapping or swiping the screen, your Disney Side will come to life with special effects, unique for each character. To share your creation, simply press the share button on the app and pick your favorite social network. The app was created by TYFFON, an entertainment app developer and one of the participants of the 2014 Disney Accelerator, a highly selective, immersive mentorship and investment program for technology-enabled startups in the media and entertainment space. 6. Take a journey back in time to the years 1955–1964. The opening of Disneyland is underway, new never-before-seen attractions have come to life for all to enjoy, magnificent mountains magically appear, a skyway leads to journeys in Tomorrowland, mermaids and sea-serpents grace the seas amidst submarines and monorails take flight high above the world below. Beginning this May, and over the course of the entire Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration, we will take a look back at milestones like these during each of the last six decades that have made the Disneyland Resort what it is today, with this special ‘Decades’ collection. Designed by artist Jeff Granito, the first piece of art in the series will debut in May. I wanted to find out more about what inspired Jeff to create this very special collection, and here’s what he had to share. “What made this collection so special for me was the opportunity to create specific pieces of art that represented key moments over the past sixty years in Disneyland Resort history,” said Jeff, “especially from a stylistic approach. In the initial piece, I wanted to capture the excitement and optimism of Disneyland during its first ten years. For many, it’s the first moment of discovery into new worlds and magical lands; where else can you have the atomic age of Tomorrowland, meet the whimsical touches of Fantasyland. For me, it was a dream come true.” Here’s how it works! New art themed to each decade will debut almost every 60 days on items including apparel, home décor, pins and more. There might even be a few surprises in store. What, you ask? I guess you’ll have to keep watching the Disney Parks Blog to find out more. Tip: Keep in mind with each release that purchasing limits will apply and merchandise is available while supplies last. Here’s one final fun fact! There is a diamond-shaped icon in each piece. Can you find this one? ‘Decades’ Art Debuts for the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration by Michelle Harker: Originally posted on the Disney Parks Blog View the full article

  10. With Orlando City Soccer Club only days away from its Major League Soccer debut this weekend, Walt Disney World Resort is getting in on the fun. We are thrilled to announce today that Walt Disney World Resort is now a founding sponsor of Orlando City, further strengthening our ties to the area’s newest pro sports franchise which played its home games at our ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex last season. This sponsorship deal means the soccer fever that has been sweeping Central Florida lately is going to be even more visible in and around Walt Disney World Resort. That’s because we are now the team’s official theme park and resort destination, and Disney Cruise Line and Disney Vacation Club are its official cruise line and vacation club, respectively. When the season kicks off Sunday in front of a capacity crowd of 60,000 screaming fans at the Citrus Bowl, Walt Disney World Resort will have a significant presence at the game much like we will at all Orlando City home games this year and at the team’s new downtown stadium starting in 2016. The soccer action will happen here, too. We’re planning to collaborate with Orlando City on a variety of soccer events at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in the coming months, further enhancing the soccer experience for athletes, coaches and fans who attend the many youth and pro soccer events at the sports complex. Ultimately we hope to leverage our collective resources to further elevate Central Florida’s profile in key travel markets such as Brazil and other Latin American countries where soccer is king. Hope to see you at some of the Orlando City games! 12. This past Sunday was National Peanut Butter Day!! But, you guys know that around here, every day is peanut butter day, so… I couldn’t wait to tell you about this ah-mazing snack I tried last week! Learn About: Sunshine SeasonsEpcot Restaurants Disney World RestaurantsIt’s at Sunshine Seasons, which is one of the best counter-service joints in Epcot. It’s home to yummy breakfasts (including their Croissant Berry Bread Pudding), healthy grab and go eats, and dinners that rival many table service meals. It’s also THE place for some fabulous snacks in Epcot, including Strawberry Shortcake, the Red Velvet Whoopie Pie, and one of my favorite carrot cake cupcakes on property. But, now, I’ve found something that puts all of that to shame. I’d heard rumors about this awesomeness, and — FYI — they’re TRUE. Warm Peanut Butter BrownieCheck out the Warm Peanut Butter Brownie. Warm Peanut Butter Brownie in the Container Honestly, it doesn’t look like much at first glance. But, you can see that the Brownie Batter is swirled with Peanut Butter. So that’s awesome. A thin Caramel Glaze adds another element to the top. Warm Peanut Butter Brownie — Up Close But then, you cut into it and you see that there’s far more here than meets the eye initially. Inside, you meet with a thick ribbon of Peanut Buttery Goodness and a Fudgey, not-quite-fully-baked Chocolate Center. Warm Peanut Butter Brownie — Cross Section So, basically, what this tastes like is the following: When I was in high school, and the Buffalo Bills were doing really well (I know, right? How many of us remember those days?), I used to go to the games with my mom (yep, my mom). Well, we lived about an hour and a half away from Buffalo, so we’d have to get up reeeeeeeeeally early, put on about sixty layers of clothes, and drive to Buffalo to start the pre-game tailgating at a decent hour. (Just hang on, I’m getting to the brownie part.) Anyway, every time we had a game scheduled, my mom and I would make caramel swirled brownies the night before. These were brownies that had a swirl (natch) of caramel on top, and I always made sure they were about 1/4 underdone when I took them out of the oven…so I had to, like, almost eat them with a spoon since they didn’t quite hold together properly as they were so fudgey. When we got to the game, we’d unwrap the foil-wrapped, gooey, caramelly brownies and dig in. It was pretty much heaven. Right there in Buffalo. And to this day, there are very few desserts that bring me as much joy as those half-baked brownies. OK, so take THAT description (childhood nostalgia, brownie batter, caramel, and [insert Your Favorite Sports Team Here])…and add PEANUT BUTTER. A Delicious Bite I KNOW, RIGHT???????!!!!!!!!!!!!! My only negative thought is to berate my 16 year old self for not adding peanut butter to the mix way back when. OK, so go. Get this. Now. It’s currently listed as a “seasonal” treat, but the chef I spoke to seemed pretty certain that it would stick around. Here’s hoping… Do You Love Epcot Snacks? We do too! And that’s why we’ve put together the authoritative DFB Guide to Epcot Snacks! It tells you everything you ever wanted to know about all of the delicious snacks and treats available in Epcot. 13. If you’ve found your parking spot by using Planet Hollywood’s giant globe-meets-spaceship as a landmark, get ready for a change. Learn About: Planet HollywoodDowntown Disney Disney World RestaurantsAs we mentioned in a previous post, we now have confirmation that the iconic restaurant will be undergoing a major transformation in the near future. The makeover will take place to ensure that the restaurant’s decor is consistent with the rest of Disney Springs. (Read more about the transformation of Downtown Disney to Disney Springs here.) The star-themed eatery will transform into Planet Hollywood Observatory, and will be modeled after a turn of the century (20th century, that is) observatory, a feature that a town might have had at the time. The new motif will incorporate a high-tech planetarium inside, thus enabling guests to “dine among the stars.” But if you’re sad to see the Hollywood memorabilia go, don’t be. Much of it will stay put, as the restaurant and lounge will still feature props and costumes from film. In addition, large movie screens will play movie features as you dine. (You can take a look at the current atmosphere and menu in our review here.) Current Planet Hollywood The outside area will also transform with brick surrounds, and the pole that has hosted the neon “Planet Hollywood” sign will be turned into a water tower. Artist’s Rendering of the New Planet Hollywood Observatory Restaurant at Disney Springs (Photo Courtesy Orlando Sentinel) The menu is getting a makeover too, but those plans are still in the works. According to Planet Hollywood International founder and chairman Robert Earl, the restaurant hopes to continue competing well against other restaurants in the immediate area. Earl plans to enlist the help of celebrity chefs in the creation of the new menu, but he’s striving to keep the prices in the moderate range. Mr. Earl did offer a little nugget of information that intrigues us: “I’m going to focus heavily on the food,” he said. “We’re going to have some worthy opposition, some that has been announced and some that hasn’t.” We’ll take this as proof positive that Disney has many, many more tricks up their sleeves. Expect the new design to be unveiled sometime next year. Are you looking forward to dining at the new Planet Hollywood Observatory? Leave a comment and join in the conversation! 20. We are headed back to Territory Lounge! FINALLY! Learn About: Territory LoungeDisney World RestaurantsThe lounge, located in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort, is pretty much the definition of awesome when it comes to Disney resort bars and lounges. We’ve talked about the  pub grub here in the past, and it’s no secret that every time I stay at WL I find myself down here at least a few times. So during a recent stay I was excited to dig in and share the latest updates with you. So kick back for a relaxing visit. Let’s begin by taking a look around. AtmosphereYou’ll find the Territory Lounge tucked off to the left side, way past Whispering Canyon Cafe, as you enter the lobby of Wilderness Lodge. It’s fully separated from that animated restaurant, so don’t let its close proximity put you off. It’s fairly quiet in here. Bar Area and Round Table Seating There’s sort of a nostalgic hunter’s lodge feel about the Lounge, matching the feel of the whole resort. Wood paneling, paintings of wildlife, and antiqued walls give that sense that you’re in a bit of a man cave. Rich Colors and Comfortable Seating Make the Space Inviting Americana Decor and a Cozy Loveseat Make for an Inviting Space Intimate tables for two along the wall offer that “didn’t-get-here-early-enough-to-get-the-easy-chairs” seating. Intimate Seating Along the Paneled Wall I love the shadowboxes that hang just above these tables. They’re full of interesting expedition objects, and the faint glow provides nice light. Cool Shadowboxes Use Old Expedition Tools as Decor But, of course, I always seek out the comfy seating in a Disney lounge, and Territory doesn’t disappoint. Curling up in these easy chairs with a nightcap seems like the perfect way to end a Disney Day. Comfy Chairs and the Framed Flatscreen Be sure to check out these guys, too! The carved bears beautifully convey the Arts and Crafts spirit epitomized in the Wilderness Lodge Decor. Carved Wooden Bear Holding up the Bar All in all, the space is on the small side, but that only lends to its feeling of comfort. EatsAs you know, on my Disney trips I just pretty much eat all day, so I was really just looking to have a drink and maybe a snack or two. You’ll find the trendy Moscow Mule on the newest Standard Disney Bar Menu, and I’m sure it’s been a hot seller. Menu — Moscow Mule and Blue Mule On this visit, I went for the Blue Mule. The plain version is a bracing combination of Russian Standard Vodka, Fresh Lime Juice, Agave Nectar, and Ginger Beer. The Blue Mule adds Blueberry Flavor to the mix. I enjoyed it, though the ginger beer taste was pretty strong. Don’t choose this one if you’re not a Ginger fan! Blue Mule Although I wasn’t starving, I was still having a bit of trouble coming to a decision about what to order food-wise. And that’s where my awesome server stepped in! Really, the staff here are some of the best in the business. They’ve all worked here for years, and they make every visit to Territory extra special. When I couldn’t decide right away what to order, my server brought me a small tasting portion of the “PNW” Nachos to try! When I visited they featured Pulled Pork, along with Apple-Cranberry Salsa, Sharp Cheddar Cheese, and Sour Cream. While they were delicious, I ultimately decided to go with a couple of other choices. (Incidentally, the current menu swaps out Buffalo Chili for the Pulled Pork.) A Tasting of the “PNW” Nachos, Courtesy of My Awesome Server! There was something not 100% awesome about these nachos. I think I wanted more cheese, and the tanginess of the cranberries was a little much. Now, if you’ve read my previous Territory Lounge review, then you know all about their incredible Fondue. I couldn’t help but order it again. Previously, the ingredient list featured Beer, but now it’s offered as an Oregon Pinot Grigio Fondue. You may find them interchanged, depending on the seasonal whims of chefs. No matter. They are equally delicious and I highly recommend both! Oregon Pinot Grigio Fondue with Bread and Seasonal Fruits The Fondue is served in a small cast iron pot with lots of dippers accompanying it. These are usually sturdy Bread Cubes as well as Seasonal Fruits. My assortment included Sourdough, Fresh Apple Chunks, and Dried Fruits. All of the items were great complements to the rich, tangy cheese. Pinot Grigio Fondue — Up Close You cannot set foot into Territory Lounge and not try this. Seriously. But I’m not finished strongly recommending items yet. Because while I had enjoyed the Fondue before, the next item was new to me. Truffle Fries with Roasted Garlic Aioli have joined the line up since I last snacked here. And I had to see how they compared with other similar offerings. And the answer to that question is……….EPICALLY. Yup, these are some of the best Truffle Fries that I’ve had at Disney. But you guys know me — it’s all about the sauce. The Roasted Garlic Aioli is outrageous. In fact, since we’re all friends here, I’ll tell you a dirty little secret. Later in my trip, I asked the cast members at Territory to box up an order of these for me — with two sides of sauce — and I took them up to my room and ate them all alone. Yes. Yes I did. Feel free to refer me to your favorite therapist. Truffle Fries with Roasted Garlic Aioli And guess what? Those truffle-scented fries also went beautifully with the fondue. (Another recommendation from my awesome server.) Oregon Pinot Grigio Fondue with Truffle Fries Because fries and cheese. With that, I called it a night, having added another incredible Territory Lounge visit to the long list. OverallIt’s always fantastic to visit one of my favorite spots with the intention of making sure it’s still fabulous — and find that it’s just as good as it’s ever been. I know that if you’re staying at, say, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, you probably aren’t going to make a special trip to Wilderness Lodge just to have a nightcap at Territory. But if you did, it would be worth it. Truly, if you are looking for a special place to meet with friends and enjoy some delicious dishes, give Territory Lounge a try. The staff, the ambiance, and the food and drink offering combine to make this spot something very special. Have you stopped by Territory Lounge for a nightcap or a bite to eat?
