It’s dessert time, and we’re heading to Epcot’s Sunshine Seasons! Learn About: Sunshine SeasonsEpcot Restaurants Disney World RestaurantsLocated on the ground floor of The Land Pavilion, Sunshine Seasons is one of my favorite spots for discovering delectable sweet treats. Their Strawberry Shortcake is legendary, and I recently discovered an absolute must-eat treat, the Warm Peanut Butter Brownie, while visiting here. But Sunshine Seasons is also a best-kept secret for some of the most interesting and delicious Disney Cupcakes as well. We’ve enjoyed seasonal options like Pineapple Coconut and Guava Cream Cheese Cupcakes. On a recent visit, I also spied two brand-new-to-me cupcakes that I just had to share with you guys! Settle in, ’cause this is gonna be good. Sunshine Seasons at The Land pavilion in Epcot Apple Spice CupcakeFirst up, I spied the Apple Spice Cupcake. At least, that’s what we’re gonna call it. And how could you not spy it from like a mile away? With that solid covering of sparkly Red Sugar, this one was stunning, and certainly stood out from the crowd. Piped Green Icing Leaves completed the pop of color, and a Pretzel Stick made a good apple stem. But I couldn’t wait to dig in and see what was under that sugar! Apple Spice Cupcake As soon as I got it, I cut it in half to check out the contents (as per usual). The construction of this one is kind of interesting to me, since the frosting is applied in a dome-like fashion, rather than piped. Beneath the sugar, that frosting turned out to be one of the very best kind — Cream Cheese! At least I THINK it was cream cheese. It had a little apply flavor to it as well! Either way, it was dense and delicious. The cake was, predictably, Apple Spice-Flavored. But that makes it sound boring, and this was anything but. It was super moist and perfectly spiced. There were no fancy fillings, but honestly, there didn’t need to be. Apple Spice Cupcake — Cross Section The combination of dense Cream Cheese Frosting, Moist Apple Cake, and the Crunch from the Sugar were all this one needed to be tops on my list of cupcakes. Black Forest CupcakeThe other cupcake I sampled provided a major contrast, both visually and flavor-wise. The Black Forest Cupcake will definitely attract the attention of cherry chocolate fans. The Chocolate Dipped Cherry on top was a great addition. Chocolate Covered Cherry Cupcake A closer look at the Chocolate Frosting beneath indicates that it’s probably Buttercream, and the Chocolate Sauce Drizzle provided a really nice contrast. The Buttercream is whipped and light, but very sweet. It’s interesting that they went with Chocolate Buttercream here instead of the more traditional Whipped Cream. Chocolate Covered Cherry Cupcake — Up Close Cutting into this one, I found what I hoped for — a surprise filling of Cherry Pie Filling! They’ve done that little trick where they cut out the middle in a cone shape, add the filling, and put the inside back on upside down. The result is you get a yummy, surprise filling, and the cone of cake is the perfect base for piping buttercream. The only downside is that frosting lovers might be disappointed when they find the top isn’t a giant helping of frosting. This one was good, but I’ll give huge edge to the Apple Spice Cupcake. Chocolate Covered Cherry Cupcake — Cross Section But — I do love me some Cherry Pie Filling! Want Even More Epcot Snack Details?Let’s face it: snacks are a big deal during your Disney vacation. Today I’m happy to share a video of our new baby goats at Disneyland park. Bernard and Bianca have been visiting with the guests at Big Thunder Ranch Petting Farm for a few weeks now, but we were able to capture this footage on their very first day out! We even had help from one of the herd, Lock, who proudly wore a “Goat-Pro†camera around his neck. Take a minute to share in the fun, and if you can, hurry out to Disneyland park to see the baby goats for yourself! Who’s seen Disney’s “Cinderella,†now in theaters? If you haven’t yet, move it to the top of your list! My fellow Disney Parks Blog author, Steven Miller, recently shared some of the exciting new “Cinderella†merchandise headed your way, but i have a special treat for you … actually I have two! Debuting this month at the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort is a Cinderella Coach inspired apple. It’s safe to say that candy makers got a little ‘carried away’ with this concoction. The apple has been dipped in caramel as well as edible shimmering white chocolate and comes complete with carriage-looking wheels. What are they made of? I guess you’ll have to try one to see! Another fun way to celebrate the film’s release is with our Cinderella Coach krispy treat, sure to be a fan favorite for any movie-goer. Here’s a list of locations where you can find them! After Disney Parks Blog author Salah told us about some of the newest premium culinary offerings at Remy, our fine dining French restaurant on the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream, I had to check out these experiences for myself! Here’s my summary: “Amazing!!†Before joining Petites Assiettes de Remy on the first night of my last cruise, I sat down with Salah to hear more about this delicious and fun event. Check out this video to hear what he had to say (and be on the lookout for my cameo!) Next week I’ll share another video with Salah talking about the new dessert experience. Magic Kingdom visitors will be able to eat breakfast at Be Our Guest restaurant -- at least temporarily. Disney World will be testing that option at the Fantasyland eatery between March 20 and June 18. View the full article

Starting on March 20, Be Our Guest Restaurant in Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort will begin testing a prix fixe breakfast from 8-10 a.m. daily through June 18. The fast casual breakfast menu has a decidedly French touch; each meal begins with a pastry basket for sharing. Your entrée options include assorted cured meat and cheese served with marmalade, fresh fruit and a toasted baguette. You can also enjoy eggs Florentine served in a puff pastry shell with country ham and roasted plum tomatoes. Even the open-face bacon-and-poached-egg sandwich has Brie. If you’re looking for something a little lighter, choose the scrambled egg whites with roasted tomatoes, multigrain croissant and fresh fruit. Or go with a vegetable quiche with mushroom, zucchini, bell pepper, onion and chive, served with seasonal fruit. The prix fixe menu will also include a selection of self-service beverages. But the decadent start to the day is the Croissant Doughnut: a fried doughnut topped with banana caramel sauce, chocolate ganache and whipped cream. (True vacation indulgence!) The kids’ menu includes brioche French toast with fresh fruit, scrambled eggs with Applewood bacon and fresh fruit, fruit crepes with yogurt and fresh fruit with a berry foam, cereal and oatmeal. Guests can make reservations beginning March 17 for dates March 20 through June 18, 2015 via DisneyWorld.com/dine, the My Disney Experience app, or by calling 407-WDW-DINE. Advance reservations are encouraged. Disney Dining Plan will be accepted. We’ve been hearing for what feels like forever that Be Our Guest Restaurant in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom would begin offering breakfast service — and it looks like that rumor is officially confirmed! In speaking with Disney Cast Members today, we’ve determined that booking for reservations will open up tomorrow! Guests will be able to book dates from March 20th through June 18th, the date which will mark the end of the test period for this new offering at Be Our Guest. Be Our Guest Restaurant So circle Friday, March 20th, on your calendars for the start date for breakfast! To be sure you get immediate updates as they become available, sign up for the Disney Food Blog newsletter! Now let’s look a little closer at what is anticipated, and just a heads up: it looks like breakfast at Be Our Guest will be unlike anything we’ve ever seen before! Quick Service/Prix Fixe Mashup: Breakfast at Be Our GuestFor lunch service, Be Our Guest recently became the very first counter service spot to offer Advance Dining Reservations. (Dinner service remains table service, and Advance Dining Reservations have been in place for dinner since the restaurant opened.) And now, it seems that they’ll follow suit with lunch for the breakfast service. Breakfast at Be Our Guest will be a counter service option, but it’s anticipated that advanced ordering will be available, just like at lunch. In addition, the menu will be prix fixe with a twist. Guests will pay one set price, and the meal will include a Deluxe Pastry Basket for sharing at the table, Your Choice of Entree, and a Beverage. (Be sure to continue further in this post for screen shots of the menu!) Will you start your day in the West Wing? At this time, Be Our Guest is NOT planning to offer a Character Dining experience. All in all, the meal will be very similar to lunch, with the exception that it’s prix fixe with a choice of entree. Breakfast at Be Our Guest will be bookable via the My Disney Experience app or online through the Disney World website. You may also dial (407) WDW-DINE. As with lunch, pre-ordering should be available via My Disney Experience 30 days out. Because this is considered a counter service spot, breakfast will count as one counter service credit on the Disney Dining Plan. Breakfast will be served from 8AM until 10AM. (In the event that you hold an ADR prior to the Park’s opening for the day, you’ll be required to show your confirmation number in order to enter the Park before it opens to the public.) The incredible Entrance to the Beast’s Castle! So, there you go! You’ll have the convenience of quick service and a set price, but you’ll have higher end options and fantastic themeing. Be Our Guest Breakfast MenuAs for the menu offerings, Be Our Guest will continue to strike a balance between offering traditional favorites with a French flavor. While everything is subject to change, the menu will likely include: Assorted Cured Meats and Cheeses served with Orange Marmalade, Fresh Fruit, and a Toasted BaguetteOpen-faced Breakfast Poached Egg, Applewood Bacon, Brie Cheese, and Arugula on a Toasted Baguette – Served with a Fresh Fruit CupFrench Doughnut with Bananas, Caramel, and Whipped CremeScrambled Egg Florentine, Country Ham, and Tomato Topped with Fresh Chives – Served in Puff PastryVegetable Quiche with Mushrooms, Red Peppers, and Spinach – Served with Fresh FruitEgg White Scramble with Tomato Served on a Multigrain Croissant – Served with Fresh FruitWafflesFrench Toast SticksHere are a few screen shots of the menu as listed on the “My Disney Experience” app! Today, I’m heading back to Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe! Learn About: Pecos Bill’s Tall Tale Inn and CafeMagic Kingdom Disney World RestaurantsI hadn’t been to this corner of Magic Kingdom for a while to eat, and it was time to visit again. AtmosphereThe legend of Pecos Bill is an interesting one. But first and foremost, where the Tall Tale Inn — Pecos Bill’s for short — is concerned, it’s the story of two restaurants in one. That’s because Pecos Bill’s straddles two different Disney “lands”: Frontierland and Adventureland. Pecos Bill Sign from the Adventureland Entrance And depending on which side you enter from, you’ll either feel like you’ve stumbled in from a Western frontier town, or a just colonized Caribbean island. It reminds me a bit of the dual personalities of another Magic Kingdom counter service favorite, Columbia Harbour House. (Check out pics of the two styles you see there — one Fantasyland, one Liberty Square — in this review.) Pecos Bill Sign from the Frontierland Entrance You’ll see nods to both settings inside as well. More on that in a minute. But back to the story. You can read all about Pecos Bill in the story about how the Tall Tale Inn came to be. (And fans of classic Disney film will recognize Pecos Bill’s likeness at the top from Melody Time, the Disney anthology featuring the Pecos Bill short.) Story of Pecos Bill – click image for larger version And you should really brush up on the Code of the West. Just in case you’re tempted to, you know, spit or something. Be sure to check out other fun Codes we found on a tour of Magic Kingdom in this post. Pecos Bill’s Code of the West But don’t just grab a burger and rush through it here! (I know, I know. FastPasses and all that.) Remember the story above? Of course you do. It was two pictures ago! Well, there are some really cool “artifacts” at Pecos Bill’s that you’ve gotta see. Check out this pistol and group of playing cards, courtesy of superstar sharpshooter Annie Oakley. The display commemorates one of her most famous tricks, splitting playing cards and shooting them through in mid air. Revolver and Bullet-Riddled Playing Cards And of course, there’s memorabilia from Bill’s best girl, Slue-Foot Sue. She autographed these gloves just for him. Slue-Foot Sue’s Gloves In fact, you can see the gloves in this pic. They hang right around the corner in the seating area from a portrait of Slue-Foot Sue herself! Regarding seating, it’s plentiful, and you’ll find a fun mix of decor here, befitting its setting at the corner of two Lands. Here, it looks like a tavern in a Texas frontier town. Seating Additional Seating But here, the setting is more like Adventureland. Caribbean Island? Mexico? It’s a little of this and a little of that with hanging lanterns, potted flowers, and a verandah overlooking the seating area. Gorgeous “Outdoor” Seating — Indoors There are also lots of seats outside, and many are conveniently shaded. Shaded Outdoor Seating Patio Outdoor Seating Ordering at Pecos Bill’s is classic Disney counter service. Cast Members are ready to take your order as soon as you mosey up to the podium. Pecos Bill’s Ordering Area After we placed our orders, it was time to take a look at one of Pecos Bill’s most famous “attractions” — their condiment bar! This collection of toppings is one of my favorites. They have everything here! Peppers and Pickles to top your sandwiches? For sure. Peppers and Pickles at Pecos Bill’s Condiment Bar And while the Salsa clearly isn’t the handmade variety I usually enjoy in Texas, it’s still pretty awesome to have it as an option. Condiment – Salsa Sauteed Mushrooms are a hearty favorite of lots of people (not me, but you’re welcome to them). You could practically make a side dish out of ‘em. Condiments – Sauteed Mushrooms More traditional options are also available, like Shredded Cheese, Lettuce, and Sliced Tomatoes. Cheese, Lettuce, Tomatoes on Condiments Bar But all of it pales in comparison to the very best condiment available — Plastic Cheeeeeeeeese! Plastic Cheese Plentiful pumps of Ketchup, Mayo, and Mustard also make easy work of dressing your sandwich or covering your fries. Condiment Dispensers A central stash of other condiments and plastic tableware are located conveniently so you can grab them on the way to your table. Other condiments and utensils And now it’s time to dig in! EatsA while back, I enjoyed the Root Beer Slush in the clear Souvenir Boot here at Pecos Bill’s. On this visit, they were featuring a new drink in the Souvenir Boot — and as it turns out, a new boot altogether! The boot is Black these days, and currently comes filled with Strawberry Lemonade Slush. Strawberry Lemonade Slush Served in a Souvenir Boot As for eats, I was a little sad to see some of my favorites gone from the Pecos Bill menu. Those killer Onion Rings? Gone. And we’ve all heard about the demise of the Taco Salad; it’s still not back. You can breathe a sigh of relief that the Chili Cheese Fries are still here, though. But there are also some additions. I had seen the Deluxe Chicken Sandwich before, and decided to give it a try on this visit. A Grilled Chicken Breast is topped with Cheese, Bacon, and a Chipotle Mayonnaisey type of sauce. The whole thing is served on a Ciabatta Roll. Deluxe Chicken Sandwich Honestly, that roll was a little dry, and really soaked up the sauce. I could have done with a lot more, but the flavors were good. Deluxe Chicken Sandwich — Cross Section My friend went with the Barbecue Pork Sandwich. It looks exactly — exactly — like the Barbecue Pork Sandwich I showed you a while back from Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Tomorrowland. Barbecued Pork Sandwich There was a good portion of tender, shredded Pork Barbecue on the sandwich, and we both liked this bread choice a little better. Barbecued Pork Sandwich — Cross Section Still, my friend likes LOTS of sauce — so it was handy that we could grab a little extra Barbecue Sauce on the Condiment Bar. Heinz BBQ Sauce And here’s a TIP: we weren’t terribly hungry, so we decided to order just the sandwiches without the side order. (Both come with your choice of Corn on the Cob, Fries, or Apple Slices.) We saved a little money and a little stomach room by taking advantage of this off-menu secret! (You’ll find lots more tips like this in our DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining, by the way!) However, a little later in the evening, I happened to be back at Pecos Bill’s for a late night snack, and opted for an order of French Fries. This is what the a la carte fries look like. French Fries And they were pretty awesome dipped in Plastic Cheese. OverallOverall, Pecos Bill’s is still a good, solid choice if you’re looking for a quick meal at the crossroads of Adventureland and Frontierland. Sure, the menu items here aren’t all that original for the most part; they closely resemble lots of your choices at Cosmic Rays on the other side of Disney World. But that beautiful condiment bar allows you a certain level of customization, and you’ll find that the menu leans slightly to the Southwest, which does make it a bit more interesting than standard hamburgers and fries. Every once in a while you’ll find specialty items here as well — like steak, or short ribs. Besides, who can resist the opportunity to check out some fine Disney film history? Make sure you absorb the intentional details in the decor here. To a great extent, they really set it apart. What’s your favorite detail about Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn — the food or the themeing, or both? We want to hear your thoughts in comments below!
