  1. You can do all the planning necessary to make sure you have a seamless and PERFECT Disney World trip, but sometimes things still happen that throw a wrench in those amazing plans. A rainy day in Magic Kingdom Sometimes you have to deal with flight delays and cancelations. Sometimes there are technical issues that cause ride closures. Sometimes, bad weather can affect both your flights and the theme park rides, and, well, we’ve got some bad news on that front for this weekend. There’s a potential storm heading to Orlando this weekend that could disrupt your Disney World plans. The storm is expected to bring a LOT of rain and gusty winds, but it could also bring more severe weather. If severe weather DOES head towards Disney World, Cast Members will be on hand to tell you what you should do and where to shelter. As we previously mentioned, outdoor rides will shut down, but other ride closures could follow, depending on how severe the weather is. Just be sure to pay attention to Cast Members and follow their instructions. Rainy day at Hollywood Studios If you are planning to hit the parks, be sure to bring rain gear — pack a poncho or raincoat in your day bag. When it rains in Orlando, it can POUR, and you’ll want to stay as dry as possible. It’s also a good idea to keep a spare pair of socks — and even shoes — on hand. Bring your raincoats and ponchos If you’re flying into or out of Orlando International Airport, note that this weather could potentially affect your flight, too. Be sure to stay weather-aware and download both the MCO App and your airline’s app to stay updated on any changes to your flight’s status. We’ll also be keeping an eye on the weather in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 2. We love Early Theme Park Entry! Sleeping Beauty Castle It really is one of the best perks you can get for staying at a Disney-owned hotel during your Disneyland visit. As it is right now, if you’re staying at any Disneyland Resort hotel, you can enter the parks a full 30 minutes before their official opening time, which means getting on those popular rides before the rest of the crowds. But REMEMBER, that policy is changing pronto! Earlier this year, we shared the news with you that the rules of Early Theme Park Entry would be changing soon. Those changes are going into effect on January 20th, 2024. Disney California Adventure Park Again, here’s what the website says: “Starting January 20, 2024, the early entry benefit will be updated, and Guests with valid park admission and reservations who are checked in and staying at one of the Disneyland Resort hotels may take advantage of this 30-minute early entry into a designated theme park for every day of their hotel stay. Each day, either Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park will be open early. Please check the theme park calendar for the schedule.” Disneyland The way that it is worded makes it sound like Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park will switch off which one has the perk for each day. Either way, guests will still get the extra 30 mins, but only at the park that has Early Entry that day. Tomorrowland in Disneyland So, if you’re planning to travel to Disneyland soon, take a look at this list so you know what’s available in each park during Early Entry: Disneyland Park Attractions: Alice in Wonderland Astro Orbitor Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters Disneyland Monorail Dumbo the Flying Elephant King Arthur Carrousel Mad Tea Party Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride Peter Pan’s Flight Pinocchio’s Daring Journey Snow White’s Enchanted Wish Space Mountain Star Tours – The Adventures Continue Star Tours in Disneyland Disneyland Park Dining and Shopping: Churros near Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters Esplanade Stroller Shop Fantasyland Fruit Cart Guide II Little Green Men Store Command The Mad Hatter in Fantasyland Main Street Fruit Cart Market House The Star Trader Disney California Adventure Park Attractions: Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission BREAKOUT! 4. One of the many amenities of staying at a Disney World hotel is having access to the phenomenal team of housekeepers! Room at Disneys Grand Floridian Whether you’re the type of person who doesn’t want to worry about keeping your room in a livable state while on vacation, and want to reap every benefit of housekeeping while at Disney World, OR you’re the type to want to keep people out of your hotel room at all costs, there are a few important things you need to know about housekeeping at Disney World hotels. Here are five things that anyone staying at an on-property hotel NEEDS to know about housekeeping before their visit. Let’s go! Housekeeping service DOES depend on where you stay. Those staying at Disney World’s Value and Moderate resorts will have access to housekeeping every other day, while those staying at Deluxe resorts will have access every single day. Grand Floridian This is absolutely something to take into consideration when deciding where to stay while at Disney World! Your housekeepers can be Disney College Program participants! Did you know that Disney College Program (DCP) participants can sometimes be placed in housekeeping roles? Riviera Resort Tower Studio Pulldown Bed Yep! And, it’s known to be one of the most FUN jobs in all of Disney World! These folks have been extra bright and bubbly in our experience, and they always make our day with the extra magic they make. Housekeepers LOVE to make extra magic! I can’t think of a single time that I’ve passed a housekeeping Cast Member and haven’t been kindly greeted by them. They are all so kind and happy to do their jobs. They ALSO love to make magic in your hotel room! They did this on our bed with our personal blankets that we brought They’ve been known to leave small gifts for little ones, special treats and snacks, and they’ve also created little happy moments in our rooms, like the time they twisted the extra blankets we brought into the shape of Mickey, Minnie’s bow, and MORE! Plus, if you have plushes and ears laying around, there might be some magical mischief made! You can opt out of housekeeping! As we mentioned earlier, there are some folks who prefer not to have the housekeepers come by — for a variety of reasons. Disney’s Beach Club Room No matter WHY you don’t want the housekeepers to come, just opt out of the service by letting a Cast Member at the check in desk know at any point throughout your stay, OR by putting the “room occupied”/”do not disturb” sign on your door. Please note, though, that opting out of housekeeping doesn’t affect only your room, but all rooms on your reservation. So, just be sure to check with the rest of your party before you make that call. Disney Vacation Club Villlas are a little bit different. If you book your stay using Disney Vacation Club (DVC) points, you won’t get daily service. You will receive service every other day, unless you’re staying longer than eight days. Saratoga Springs If you’re staying longer than eight days, you’ll get a full cleaning service every four days! These five things are so important to keep in mind when deciding where to stay and while learning how to reap the most benefit out of your stay at a Disney World hotel. We’ll be sure to keep you updated with more Disney news, so make sure to follow along for more! Hoping to learn even MORE about Disney World hotels? Click here! 5. Yo ho, yo ho, it’s a BIG day for Pirates and Pirates fans everywhere! Pirates of the Caribbean Yep, Pirates of the Caribbean in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom is one of the attractions that is considered to be an OG — with this attraction popping up just two years after the official opening of the park in 1971, and six years after the attraction arrived to Disneyland. Well, on December 15th, Disney World’s Pirates of the Caribbean attraction reached a HUGE milestone. December 15th marks Pirates of the Caribbean’s 50th Anniversary at Disney World! Yep, 50 whole years of sailing, singing, and… stealing some treasure, of course. Pirates of the Caribbean To celebrate, Disney shared some photos from waaaaay back in the day when the attraction was being built. Folks were so excited for the attraction to arrive to Disney World. ©Disney The signs heightened the anticipation, alerting folks that the attraction would be open for business around Christmas 1973. ©Disney If you’re a fan of the attraction, you can tune in on Disney+ to catch the Pirates of the Caribbean episode of the Behind the Attraction series. ©Disney Wow! 8. Even in the Most Magical Place on Earth, things can still go wrong. Tree of Life You could miss your dining reservation, the character you were looking for had to take a break, and in rare cases — you might even get stuck on a ride! That’s exactly what happened to folks enjoying one particular Animal Kingdom attraction. Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom appears to be having a bit of a problem — and quite a big one at that! We were strolling past the attraction when we happened to notice it looked stuck. Uh oh! We spoke with Cast Members who told us that it had been stuck for over 30 minutes. Not only that, but a nearby parkgoer shared with us that her husband and child were stuck on a different train — at the part of the ride where you start to go backward. Doesn’t look good! Cast Members didn’t share what went wrong, just that they were working on getting things going again. Rides can malfunction and break down for any number of reasons in Disney World — if it happens to you, try to stay calm! Cast Members are trained for this sort of thing and will likely give you instructions to stay put until they get things moving. In worst-case scenarios, an evacuation might be necessary. Make sure you listen to Cast Members so you stay safe! We’ll be on the hunt for more news from around Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest! 9. Listen, we’re not going to sugarcoat it. Walt the Dreamer Disney World has changed a LOT over the past few years. Some changes were welcomed by fans and others proved to be a little bit controversial. No matter how you slice it, Walt Disney was a fan of progress, and it looks like that progress is going to continue based on the newest Disney World permits we found! We take a look at permits recently filed by Disney to get an idea of what might be in store for the parks and more, and here’s what we found this time around. EPCOT The BEST pizza place in all of Disney World could be getting a refresh soon — we found a permit that matches up with Via Napoli in EPCOT! Via Napoli It doesn’t look like any closures are listed on the Disney World website for this restaurant, so we’re not expecting any major work over here. The permit description is for “general construction,” but we’ll let you know if the project might impact your trip. Hollywood Studios If you’re looking for a quick and reliable bite to eat in Hollywood Studios, look no further than Backlot Express! You’ll find hot dogs, sandwiches, burgers, salads, and more at this counter-service spot, and while it’s nothing to write home about — it does the job. Backlot Express We found a recently filed permit for Backlot Express that indicates some electrical work might be starting soon. It doesn’t appear as though it will impact any operations of the restaurant, though, so you should be good to order those french fries with a side of plastic cheese on your next visit. Stay tuned for any updates! Magic Kingdom During our last permit roundup, we mentioned a recently filed Notice of Commencement for work at Pirates of the Caribbean in Magic Kingdom — and it looks like that work is just getting started! Caribbean Plaza area Another permit has been filed in this area — but for the Caribbean Plaza section in between the entrance to Pirates and Tortuga Tavern. This one is also for general construction, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for any projects that might impact your trip. Disney World Hotels It’s no secret that the Disney World hotels are going through some serious changes — and we found a couple of new permits to prove it! A new, general construction permit has been filed for work on the main building at the Contemporary Resort… Contemporary …and a similar permit has been filed for Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. For now, your stay shouldn’t be impacted, but we’ll let you know if that changes. 10. We’re in Disney World all the time, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t surprised from time to time! Magic Kingdom Whether we’re graced with some Cast Member magic or met with something less pleasant — like transportation woes — every day is a little bit different in the parks. This week, we encountered a few random things on our travels — come take a look! Chicken Guy! Sauces Unfortunately, we’re starting off with a sad surprise. Recently, we learned that TWELVE sauces had been removed from the Chicken Guy! menu. While there are still ten to choose from, some of our favorites are no longer available! That’s it? Saying we are disappointed is an understatement. However, at least there are some new options on the menu to try! Shortly after learning about this sauce debacle, the restaurant added 3 new sandwiches to the lineup: the new Hot Honey, Buffalo Ranch, and Buffalo Mac ‘n’ Cheese sandwiches. NEW Chicken Guy Sammies! Stay tuned for our review! Summer House on the Lake Our next surprise is thankfully a happy one — Summer House on the Lake opened! Summer House on the Lake We had previously learned that it would be opening near the end of this year and recently saw that the menus were released online. YES! As of December 13th, 2023, however, it became official that the restaurant would be opening today, December 14th, 2023. Lots of places to sit We already had a chance to check it out, and it is stunning! Stay tuned for our full review! Dapper Day Dresses After Dapper Day Recently, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios both had Dapper Days, where guests dress up in their best retro fashions. These events are usually a ton of fun, and the participants looked amazing! LOVE the retro Christmas vibes! But, we were surprised to find a new collection of dapper merch after these events had ended. In Uptown Jewelers in Magic Kingdom, a new line of Disneyland-inspired Dapper Day outfits has arrived after the fact. Disneyland Dress If anyone wanted to sport these new outfits during the event, they’d have been out of luck! Pumpkin Gelato We had yet another timing-based unexpected event happen this week! The gelato cart on Grand Avenue in Disney’s Hollywood Studios typically has a rotating flavor each month — and this month it’s pumpkin. Menu Okay, we know it’s still technically autumn until December 21st, but for Disney standards, it’s basically Christmas! Christmas Cuttlefish Village We had to end on a delightful surprise, so for this one, we’re heading to EPCOT’s SeaBase aquariums. SeaBase aquariums Every year, the little aquariums get decked out for the holidays! In the past, we’ve seen a fun coral Christmas tree and this fun menorah that is “lit” for Hanukkah. Menorah But this year, there are new decorations, and we’re obsessed. The Christmas Cuttlefish Village has debuted in the Nursery aquariums, and we think these “gingerbread” houses rival the one at Disney’s Grand Floridian. Christmas Cuttlefish Village It looks like the cuttlefish are enjoying the Christmas vibes as well. Christmas Village There you have it — five unexpected things that happened in the parks this week. 13. If you’re feeling a sudden wave of déjà vu, you’re not alone. Back in October, we reported that Nelson Peltz wasn’t quite done meddling in Disney company business just yet — but now, he’s made it official. ©Reuters Peltz previously threw his name into the ring for a position on Disney’s Board of Directors, Peltz initiated a proxy battle for the spot which ultimately ended before it began, with Peltz pulling out of the fight and declaring his support for Disney and CEO Bob Iger. Now, Peltz is back and he’s throwing his name into the ring yet again. Trian Partners — operated by Nelson Peltz — has officially made a bid for not one, but two seats on the Board of Directors at The Walt Disney Company. ©Trian Partners A statement released by Trian states the company “Believes the Disney Board’s lack of focus, alignment, and accountability has resulted in chronic underperformance at one of the world’s most iconic companies.” On December 14th, Trian submitted an official notice of intention to nominate two independent director candidates for election to the Disney Board of Directors at the Company’s 2024 Annual Meeting of Shareholders. ©New York Times Nelson Peltz of Trian Partners According to Trian, “Disney is one of the most iconic companies in the world with unrivaled scale, unparalleled customer loyalty, irreplaceable intellectual property (“IP”), and an enviable commercial flywheel. However, Disney has woefully underperformed its peers and its potential.” ©CNBC It’s because of this, Trian says, that it’s nominating Nelson Peltz and James A. “Jay” Rasulo as candidates for directors of Disney’s Board. Jay Rasulo served as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Walt Disney Company from 2010 to 2015. Trian stated that Bob Iger once called him “a vital contributor to Disney’s success” with “strategic acumen and savvy insight.” “The Disney I know and love has lost its way,” said Rasulo. “As independent voices in the boardroom, Nelson and I are confident that the combination of my decades of experience at Disney, Nelson’s significant boardroom skills and history of driving positive strategic change, and our combined consumer brands expertise and financial acumen, will be additive to the Disney Board. With a shareholder mandate, Nelson and I look forward to helping the Board and management reorient the Company towards delighting its consumers again and driving significant value for its owners.” ©Getty Images Peltz shared his thoughts on the matter and said, “To resolve the malaise and crisis of confidence among Disney shareholders, the Board needs fresh perspectives from truly independent directors selected by the shareholders themselves. Jay and I have the strategic, operating, financial, and governance expertise to help Disney and are committed to working with the other members of the Board and management team to address the fundamental issues underlying the Company’s continued poor performance. There is much that can be done to revive Disney and restore the confidence of Disney shareholders, and Trian looks forward to discussing these opportunities with our fellow shareholders over the coming months.” ©Disney Disney confirmed Trian’s notice of intent to nominate Peltz and Rasulo, and defended the company’s current Board. “Disney has an experienced, diverse, and highly qualified Board that is focused on the long-term performance of the Company, strategic growth initiatives including the ongoing transformation of its businesses, the succession planning process, and increasing shareholder value.” The nominations will be reviewed by the Governance and Nominating Committee who will give the Board a recommendation on what decision to make. Disney expects to file preliminary materials for the 2024 Annual Meeting of Shareholders with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that will include the Board’s recommended director nominees. ©Disney Over the past year, Activist investor Nelson Peltz and Trian Partners (Peltz is CEO of Trian Partners) began pushing for Peltz to have a seat on Disney’s Board of Directors before Peltz was even an investor in Disney. Peltz shared quite a few criticisms of the Walt Disney Company — notably CEO succession, poor financial strategy (especially when it comes to streaming), and not enough accountability with capital allocation. Disney World But, that all changed after the first-quarter earnings call of Fiscal Year 2023 when Peltz suddenly declared that all was now copacetic between him and Disney. Shortly after, the proxy battle was over and Nelson Peltz was but a distant memory — until now. Peltz also recently increased his stake in The Walt Disney Company, with his Trian Fund Management having accumulated more than $2.5 billion in shares. Disney also revealed that Bluey is the #1 most-watched series for preschoolers and kids in the U.S. Yep, Bluey is more popular than ever, and now, your kids will have even MORE episodes to watch and obsess over. We’re not mad about it! ©Disney Disney even released the list of episodes that are coming in January: “Cubby” – Bluey and Bingo build a very special cubby for their stuffed toy, Kimjim. “Exercise” – Bingo pretends to be Boss Bluey’s new employee in the middle of Dad’s backyard workout. “Relax” – Bluey and Bingo would rather explore their holiday hotel room than relax on the beach. “Stickbird” – On a trip to the beach, Mum teaches Bluey how to throw, while Bingo and Dad get creative with a funny shaped stick. “Show and Tell” – Bluey wants to know why Dad’s always bossing her around! “Dragon” – Bluey asks Dad to help her draw a dragon for her story. “Wild Girls” – Coco wants to play Wild Girls with Indy, but Chloe wants her to play another game. “TV Shop” – At the pharmacy, Bluey and Bingo have fun playing with the CCTV screens. “Slide” – Bingo and Lila are excited to play on their new waterslide. “Cricket” – During a friendly game of neighborhood cricket, the dads struggle to bowl Rusty out. ©Disney These new episodes will also premiere on Disney Channel and Disney Junior later in the year. 15. Y’all aren’t ready for this news. Seriously. You’re going to want to sit down. Disneyland Resort One of our favorite Disney meals just got updated in the BEST WAY POSSIBLE. Over in Disneyland Park, you’ll find a few different restaurants in New Orleans Square, and two of those spots serve one of our favorite meals ever: the Monte Cristo Sandwich. It can be found on the menus of Cafe Orleans and its next-door neighbor, Blue Bayou Restaurant. This battered and fried sandwich (served with seasonal preserves) is a fan-favorite snack in Disneyland, but now there’s a NEW version of the sandwich available at a nearby quick service location! Monte Cristo Royal Street Veranda is a quick service restaurant that’s famous for serving up soup in tasty bread bowls. Royal Street Veranda Now we have a new reason to visit the Veranda: It’s serving WAFFLE-CRISTO sandwiches for breakfast! ©Disney The sandwiches are Belgian Waffles that are stuffed with Rosemary Ham, Turkey, and Swiss Cheese. They’re dusted in powdered sugar and served with Strawberry Preserves and Maple Syrup. You can get a full order for $10.99 or a half order for $6.99. WOAH. ©Disney Y’all know where to find us every single day for breakfast from now on . The sandwiches are only listed on the breakfast menu, so you’ll need to head there between 8AM and 10AM to get your hands on one. And don’t forget that you can use Mobile Order to order your food ahead of time and skip the line once you arrive! Royal Street Veranda Don’t worry — the classic Monte Cristo sandwiches are still on the menus at Blue Bayou and Cafe Orleans, so if you’re looking for the original, you know where to go. 16. There are a LOT of hotel rooms in Disney World. And by a lot, we mean over 30,000! All-Star Movies Resort With so many choices, how do you know where to stay? Sometimes it comes down to whichever hotel has the best theme, restaurants, or activities. But more often than not, it comes down to price. And that’s why we’re taking you on a tour of the CHEAPEST hotel room in Disney World. The cheapest rooms available at a Disney-owned hotel are the standard rooms at any of the three All-Star Resorts. At their lowest price in 2024, the standard rooms are available for $117 a night. Standard Room Each of these rooms sleeps up to four adults with either one king bed or one queen, and one murphy bed-style queen. The room we stayed in was a double queen at All-Star Movies Resort, and when the second bed is tucked away, there’s actually a decent amount of space. Lowered Murphy Bed These rooms were renovated in the past few years and feature a Mickey and Friends theme. You’ll notice it in the artwork and the little touches around the room. Standard Room When the murphy bed is folded up, it turns into a dining table. The table comes with two chairs that will need to be moved when it’s time to turn down for the night. Closed Murphy Bed Each room has a window, but these standard rooms often come with a parking lot view or a view of one of the less-exciting areas of the resort. The doors are exterior entry, which means you’ll be coming in off a breezeway. Closed Curtain There’s a small coffee bar in the room with a single-cup coffee maker. The one in our room was Cuisinart brand. Coffee Maker And of course, Disney supplies a drawer with some basic coffee essentials. There are packs for hot coffee, hot tea, creamer, sugar, and more. Coffee, Teas, etc. Each room also comes equipped with a mini fridge. There’s room to store some snacks and maybe some leftovers in here, but not too many items. If you’re bringing more things that need refrigeration, we suggest a cooler. Mini Fridge The dresser comes with several drawers for clothes storage, and there’s a TV in each room. You can watch regular channels or check out the Disney information channels with things like park hours and weather updates. TV and Dresser Next to the beds, there are side tables with light switches and outlet space. Each outlet has regular plugs as well as USB spots. One of the side tables will also be home to your room’s phone. Phone and Side Table If you’re traveling with a bigger party, you can request adjoining rooms. If not, you can keep the door locked at all times. There’s a door on each side, so both rooms would need to open them for access between. Standard Room Heading into the bathroom, there’s a small space for hanging clothes with a few hangers available. There are also several storage shelves with things like an iron, a hair dryer, and extra toilet paper. Bathroom The sink area comes stocked with bar soap and towels for the room. There’s not as much counter space in here as a more expensive room, but there’s still ample storage. Bathroom A pocket door separates the toilet and shower from the sink area. There are towel rods in the bathroom for showering. Bathroom And each shower is equipped with an adjustable showerhead and a clothesline for those wet swimsuits! Bathroom Last but not least, we’ve got the most important feature — an adjustable thermostat in every room! Keep things comfy while you sleep, guys. Standard Room So if you’re traveling to Disney World on a budget, don’t worry! Even the cheapest rooms available are still pretty nice. We’ve slept great in these rooms and still had awesome park days afterward. Stay tuned to DFB for more updates from Disney World and all the tips you need to know! 17. Flying certainly isn’t always easy — and some airlines make it more difficult than most. Southwest Airlines After holiday travel problems plagued Southwest Airlines in 2022, the company has been making efforts to streamline and improve its overall process. Keeping track of your luggage is now easier, and for some passengers, a more comfortable flight is on the horizon. Southwest Airlines is being celebrated among TikTok users for its inclusion policy — specifically as it refers to “Customers of size,” according to Fox Business. The policy allows passengers to request complimentary seats depending on their specific needs. Southwest Airlines at the Orlando Airport The extra seat policy can be found on the Southwest Airlines website and you can read it in full below: “Customers who encroach upon any part of the neighboring seat(s) may proactively purchase the needed number of seats prior to travel to ensure the additional seat(s) is available. The armrest is considered to be the definitive boundary between seats; the width of the narrowest and widest passenger seats (in inches) is available on our Flying Southwest page. The purchase of additional seats serves as a notification of a special seating need and allows us to adequately plan for the number of occupied seats onboard. It also helps us ensure we can accommodate all Customers on the flight for which they purchased a ticket and avoid asking Customers to relinquish their seats for an unplanned accommodation. Most importantly, it ensures that all Customers onboard have access to safe and comfortable seating. You may contact us for a refund of the cost of additional seating after travel. If you prefer not to purchase an additional seat in advance, you have the option of purchasing just one seat and then discussing your seating needs with the Customer Service Agent at the departure gate. If it’s determined that a second (or third) seat is needed, you’ll be accommodated with a complimentary additional seat.” ©Southwest The website also indicates that this policy isn’t anything new — in fact, it’s been around for more than 30 years. “We’ve had a long-standing policy for more than 30 years designed to meet the seating needs of Customers who require more than one seat and protect the comfort and safety of everyone onboard.” ©Southwest Plus-size travel expert and TikTok influencer Jae’lynn Chaney told Fox News Digital that the policy is “an important move” for the inclusion of plus-sized people. Another TikTok travel blogger, Kimmy (@kimmystyled) shared a video of her at the Southwest booth, asking to use their “customer of size policy.” The employee handed Kimmy another ticket at no cost for an extra seat. A Magical Flight Southwest encourages passengers to purchase an extra seat in advance to guarantee accommodations — and you’ll be refunded after submitting a request following your flight. You can also choose to not purchase a seat in advance and speak with a Southwest agent when checking in for your flight. They should be able to assist you with an extra seat and the documentation needed. 19. Have you heard the huge EPCOT festival news? EPCOT The 2024 EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival will begin on February 28th, 2024! We don’t have tons of details about next year’s event yet, but there are a couple of things that Disney has confirmed will return to the fest next year. According to Disney, the Garden Rocks Concert Series will return in 2024! The concert series takes place at the America Gardens Theater in the American Adventure Pavilion. Garden Rocks Concert The Garden Rocks concerts are free with EPCOT admission. Typically, internationally known artists perform Friday through Monday, while local bands rock the house Tuesday through Thursday. If you want to reserve your spot at a certain concert, you can book a Garden Rocks Dining Package. Purchasing a package gets you guaranteed seating at that evening’s performance along with a meal at one of the EPCOT restaurants. Garden Rocks 2022 While we know that dining packages will return in 2024, we’re still waiting on details about the concert lineup and which restaurants will be available to book. Participating restaurants in 2023 included Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, Biergarten Restaurant, Coral Reef Restaurant, The Garden Grill Restaurant, Le Cellier, Rose & Crown Pub & Dining Room, Spice Road Table, and Regal Eagle Smokehouse. (Regal Eagle had same-day dining packages.) Garden Rocks Another returning feature in 2024 will be the Disney Character topiaries and garden spaces around the park. We love checking out all the incredible topiaries in EPCOT during this event! Three Caballeros Topiary In 2023, a few new topiaries were added, including some Encanto characters and Princess Tiana. We can’t wait to see what Disney’s dreamed up for 2024. Princess Tiana Topiary at the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival On the Disney website, it’s also been confirmed that the Garden Graze will return next year. The Garden Graze is a plant-based food stroll throughout the festival (kind of like the Cookie Stroll at the EPCOT Festival of Holidays). 2023 Garden Graze To complete the Garden Graze, you need to pick up a Festival Passport and take a look at the qualifying items listed inside. You’ll pick a certain number of those items (it was five in 2023) and purchase them, collecting stamps as you buy the food. Once you have all the spaces stamped in your passport, you can turn it in for a special prize! Last year, the prize was soft serve in a souvenir cup. Last year’s Garden Graze prize One more activity has been confirmed as returning in 2024: the Festival Scavenger Hunt! In years past, the scavenger hunt has been themed to Spike the Bee, who’s a sort of mascot for the festival. Spike’s Pollen-Nation Exploration Map You purchase a scavenger hunt map and stickers, look for Spike throughout the park, mark down where he’s located with the stickers, and then turn in your completed map for a prize! 2023 Spike’s Pollen Nation Exploration PRIZES! 21. It’s nearly 2024, and that means all our 2024 Disney trips are about to be that much closer. Disney’s Hollywood Studios If you haven’t planned your trip yet, don’t panic! There’s still plenty of time to do so, and some people who live close by love to plan trips that are only a few weeks away. But before you plan your trip, there are a few big decisions you need to make. When To Go Many families are only able to go to Disney World during the summer, over long weekends, or during other holidays. And yes, you can absolutely go to Disney World during that same time, but expect some heavy crowds. Magic Kingdom Crowds However, going when it’s not a holiday isn’t necessarily a fool-proof plan either. There are a LOT of construction projects going on around the resort in 2024, which means some new experiences will be opening, not to mention popular runDisney races that may catch you off guard. EPCOT Essentially what we’re saying is, be sure to do your research on the time you plan on going, because you may find that there’s a big change happening that you wouldn’t have known about otherwise. Should YOU go to Disney World in 2024? Here’s what we think. Which Hotel To Book Deciding where to stay when you’re at Disney World may be a little more advanced than you think. If you’re staying on-property, you’ll need to choose between a Value, Moderate, or Deluxe Resort first, and then you also may want to make sure there won’t be construction going on at your chosen hotel during your stay. Grand Floridian Christmas Tree Many Disney World hotels are under construction right now to make them bigger and better, but for the time being, that means it’s not the most pleasant to be around. Some are building whole new buildings, while others are just planning to renovate their pools, but all construction can put a damper on your vacation plans. Pop Century We’re keeping a close eye out for all the latest construction news, so you can rely on DFB to bring you the most up-to-date news. Here’s how hotels are CHANGING in Disney World in 2024! Should You Get The Disney Dining Plan? If you’re going to be staying on-property, you may be wondering about getting the Disney Dining Plan, which is reutrning in January of 2024. This plan allows you to essentially pay for all your meals and snacks ahead of time, erasing the stress during your vacation, but it’s not for everyone. Satu’li Canteen There are tons of pros and cons when it comes to booking the Disney Dining Plan. One of the major pros is that it gets all the stress out of the way at one time, but one of the major cons is that many families find they can’t actually eat all the food included with the meal, and so they end up wasting money. Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater We have tons of guides on how the Disney Dining Plan works and how it may, or may not, be a good fit for you and your party, and we’ll continue to keep you updated as the plan rolls out again. Is the Disney Dining Plan worth it in 2024? Should You Buy Park Hopper? Now that Disney World’s park hopping rules are going back to normal in early January 2024 (park hopping all day), the question is, should you buy a park hopper ticket? Cinderella Castle Park hopper tickets are more expensive than single-park tickets, but it allows you to jump around from park to park as much as you’d like each day. It’s a great way to experience your favorite attractions if they’re in all different parks and you’ve visited multiple times before, but for individuals or families who want to experience each park in full, it may not be the best use of that additional money. EPCOT It’s also harder to travel between parks with larger groups and younger children, since it takes time out of the parks themselves, but it can be a great choice for solo travelers or adult groups. Which Restaurants To Book Advance Dining Reservations For Some table service (sit down) restaurants in Disney World are notorious for filling up the MOMENT guests can book them 60-days out from the beginning of their trip. Some of these restaurants include Cinderella’s Royal Table, Space 220, Le Cellier, ‘Ohana, and Be Our Guest, to name a few. Be Our Guest These restaurants are much more expensive than quick service spots, but many of them offer experiences like no other, such as character meet and greets, or the opportunity to dine in an extravagant area like Cinderella Castle. However, if you’re looking to dine at one of these spots, you need to figure that out with your group BEFORE you’re 60 days out from your vacation! The Plaza Restaurant Now, don’t get us wrong, last minute reservations absolutely pop up, but they come and go quickly and we don’t recommend just relying on getting lucky and being able to book one last minute. So talk with your group and decide if you would like to drop the cash on getting your whole group into one of these spots, then make sure you’re ready 60 days before your trip to make that reservation! Read more about booking Advance Dining Reservations here! Want to know the BEST way to make these decisions? With the help of a travel agent who specializes in Disney! 22. Y’all! It’s finally time! We’re going inside a BRAND-NEW Disney World restaurant and it’s one we’ve been VERY excited about. Summer House on the Lake That’s right, Summer House on the Lake is OPEN and we’re going to finally get to check out some of the food (oh, we cannot wait), the DESSERT Bar (insert photo of us drooling here), and see what the restaurant is like. So join us as we step into this brand-new restaurant in Disney Springs. Okay, a little background here. Summer House on the Lake features a West Coast-inspired menu, an extensive drink menu, and even a signature Rosé Cart. There’s also The Cookie Bar, which is a “dessert-focused market” with fresh cookies and pastries. YUM. BTW, did you know you could get drinks to go from there, too? We also learned that The Cookie Bar has mobile order — you can order online and pick up later! Sweet! ©Summer House on the Lake We decided to take a look at today’s cookie menu, and we made a list of what we wanted for later. Give us ALL the cookies! ©Summer House on the Lake Okay, let’s go inside the new restaurant. Summer House on the Lake has both indoor and outdoor seating. There are plenty of tables and chairs, so lots of seating for guests. Lots of places to sit The decor is minimal, with lots of natural light coming into the restaurant. There are also lots of plants and trees inside, giving it a very cool California-style vibe. Lots of natural light and plants We also love this big “YES” sign in the back. We don’t know what we’re saying “yes” to, but we’re in! YES! There’s also seating at the bar, but note that seating there is first-come, first-serve. The bar You can even get a great table by the water here — this place is HUGE and has some great views. Look at that view! Want merchandise? You’ll find that here, too, with t-shirts, hats, cups, tumblers, and even bottles of rosé. Merchandise Of course, we’re here for the food and drinks, so let’s take a look at some of what we’re eating on what will be the first of MANY trips to this restaurant. We started with a drink: the Strawberry Fields Zero Proof. A drink! Of course, we had to order some appetizers. We got the signature guacamole, which also comes with house-made tortilla chips, cilantro, pico de gallo, charred-tomato salsa, and habanero verde. Appetizers We also grabbed the potato salad deviled eggs. Y’all…these are good Okay, let’s get back to The Cookie Bar. Look at these MASSIVE cookies on display. They’re the size of our head! You’ll also find some other sweet treats here, like Krispie treats. Are you drooling yet? 23. Disney Vacation Club Properties have been getting a lot of attention lately! Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort Newly remodeled rooms have hit Disney’s Boardwalk Inn and Villas, Disney’s Beach Club Resort rooms have gotten a new look, and an entire new DVC building at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is going up as we speak. Earlier this year, Disney announced that the Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness would be getting a makeover, and we recently shared a look at some of the concept art for the project. Now, we have a new look at what we might expect when these cabins are complete. The proposal for this makeover calls for more than 350 refreshed cabins to replace the current structures at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. Disney stated that these new cabins will be “inspired by the resort’s idyllic setting, while also paying homage to the resort’s unique culture and heritage through the magic of Disney storytelling.” The original concept art that we saw back in April featured the exterior of modern-looking cabins. Fort Wilderness Cabin Concept Art ©Disney Last week, new concept art for the cabins was released with a projected opening date of Summer 2024. ©Disney We got a look at the possible interior, with what looks to be a Murphy bed, a dining area, a small kitchen, and a bedroom. ©Disney There was also concept art for the proposed bedrooms, which have a few fun nods to Disney characters like Chip and Dale. ©Disney Now, we have a look at the concept art for the kitchen! There are some noticeable warm tones, a small kitchen with a dining table, coffee maker, microwave, oven, refrigerator, and more kitchen basics. ©Disney We’ll keep an eye out for any more updates, so stay tuned to DFB for more! 3 Big Disney Discounts ONLY DVC Members Can Get Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 25. It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Gideon’s Bakehouse December Card Disney World is dressed up to the nines for the holiday season. There are gorgeous displays made out of gingerbread in many of the hotels. There are holiday snacks EVERYWHERE. The shops are full of great ideas for gifts. But we think we may have found the most EPIC gift of all — this one is for your frenemies. Okay, this would be a great gift for ANYONE, actually. Gideon’s Bakehouse in Disney Springs is offering a bag of coal, which isn’t REALLY coal, but a Black Velvet Drawstring Pouch with six Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites that are dipped in Dark Chocolate with a sprinkling of coal dust (aka black sugar). These were available last year, too, and were pretty popular! ©Gideon’s Bakehouse Of course, the hardest thing about grabbing this gift, whether it’s for someone you know or for yourself, is that Gideon’s only has a limited quantity of it, available through Christmas Eve. So you’ll want to arrive at Gideon’s Bakehouse FIRST THING when it opens to grab a bag of these delicious treats. ©Gideon’s Bakehouse Gideon’s recommends that if you grab these early and plan on gifting them, you can freeze them and take them out the day before you gift them so they can thaw out. We love Gideon’s Bakehouse So head on over to Gideon’s Bakehouse in Disney Springs ASAP to grab this special treat.
