Have you heard of “Roku City”? It’s the screensaver that pops up on Roku TVs if you let the television idle for long enough. It’s oddly addicting to watch the buildings roll by (especially since there are lots of hidden Easter eggs for popular movies and shows sprinkled in!), and now there’s a NEW addition to the city! Magic Kingdom Roku began teasing a collaboration with Disney on the Roku city screen over the weekend. A section of the city was updated to show a construction fence that said “Pardon our Pixie Dust” — just like you see sometimes in the Disney parks when Imagineers are updating or building new attractions. Now, the new Disney addition has been revealed! Here’s a look at the construction fence that we spotted over the weekend: ©Roku Now, the new addition has been revealed! Cinderella Castle has joined Roku City, and it might just be one of the best things we’ve seen all week. It’s a Disney-themed Roku city! Not only is there Cinderella Castle, but you can also see the Partners Statue and Tinker Bell. Hi, Walt and Mickey! This is an exciting update to the already-iconic Roku city. Cool buildings! According to the New York Times, the Roku screen saver was originally commissioned to a former freelance graphic artist — Kyle Jones — who now works at Pixar! Pretty cool connection, right? Apparently, Roku wanted a screen saver that could be filled with advertising for new movies and TV shows but would also be fun to watch. So, Jones created this virtual city that’s filled with billboards and Hollywood references, and now — some MAGIC. See the billboard? So… is this collaboration with Disney a hint that we can expect MORE from Disney and Roku soon? Or is this the big reveal? We’ll just have to wait and see! Pin trading is SERIOUS business in Disney World, and if you’re a pin trader or collector, you’re probably fully aware of that. Pin trading board in Frontierland For those who are new to pin trading, though, it might seem a little daunting at first. But basically it’s a great way to interact with Disney World Cast Members and other Disney World visitors, as well as nab something that will eventually become part of a VERY cool collection. But where do you even start? Well, we’re going to tell you the two BEST locations for pin trading. First, a little background. Pin trading is a free activity you can participate in Disney World, although you do have to buy some pins to get started (and they need to be Disney-licensed pins). It’s literally what it sounds like: Yu can trade the pins you already have for pins other Disney World Cast Members and visitors have — you’ll know the pin traders by the lanyards they wear (although Cast Members often carry pin boards, too). Pinelope, the Pin Trading trashcan So where do you even START? Well we’ve got two locations where you’ll not only find great pins, but also other collectors to trade with. Disney’s Pin Traders Disney’s Pin Traders in Disney Springs is a no-brainer for pin trading (it’s literally in the name). First, there is a HUGE selection of pins you can buy here, but you can also get starter sets, lanyards, and other pin trading accessories. You’ll also find other collectors hanging around here because they know they’ll find other people here who are really into pins. Disney Pin Traders So head to Disney’s Pin Traders to get started and to get to trading. Pro tip: Buy the mystery pin sets and just give away the pins you don’t want — more than likely, someone else will want those pins. Disney Announces New Pin Trading Rule Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge You might not think a hotel would be a good spot for pin trading, but there are a few folks who go to Animal Kingdom Lodge with HUGE collections looking to trade. Who knew? We’ve seen one particular gentleman trading pins there often and we’ve been told by Cast Members that he’s like a Pin Trading celebrity. If he pin trades at Animal Kingdom Lodge, then that’s where we want to pin trade, too! Pins at Animal Kingdom Lodge However, you could very well meet other pin traders in your own hotel lobby — again, you’ll know them by their lanyards, pin bags, and other accessories. Don’t be shy — go up and ask if they’re interested in trading. Pin trading is a great way to make new friends, after all. The Unspoken Rules of Pin Trading in Disney World So whether you’re a pin trading pro or a beginner, we hope that this gives you a good idea of where to go to get your collection started. Happy trading! Stay tuned to DFB for more. How Pin Trading is changing Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Click here to Subscribe! WE KNOW DISNEY. YOU CAN, TOO. We’re just a few weeks away from the Dining Plan returning to Disney World, and we’re trying to collect all the information we can before it launches! Full spread at Geyser Point When the Dining Plan was announced to return on January 9th, 2024, Disney World started updating its website with all the important info about how it will be used. But one section was left blank — the details about how to use the Dining Plan with concert dining packages at EPCOT! If you’re not familiar with the EPCOT dining packages, here’s what you need to know. During each festival, EPCOT will have concerts that play in the America Gardens Theatre. During the Flower & Garden Festival and Food & Wine Festival, they’ll have Garden Rocks and Eat to the Beat, respectively, where bands and solo artists perform. During the Festival of the Holidays, the Candlelight Processional happens in the theatre nightly, and during the Festival of the Arts, it’s the Disney on Broadway Concert Series. Disney on Broadway 2023 Performers These performances are typically pretty popular, so if you want to make sure you get a seat during the show, Disney offers a number of dining packages at restaurants around EPCOT. You have to make a specific reservation for the package and then pay the specified cost — it comes with your meal, as well as guaranteed seating for one of the shows that evening. The price per package varies depending on which restaurant you book. Dining package entrance So how will this work with the Dining Plan? Reservations just opened for the Disney on Broadway dining packages for Festival of the Arts, and we now know that the credits used per dining package will VARY depending on the restaurant as well. If the restaurant is a one-credit spot (like Biergarten), then the dining package will cost one credit. If it’s a two-credit spot (like Le Cellier), then the dining package will cost you two credits. You can score reserved seat by buying an Eat to the Beat dining package! This could be good news for those planning on visiting the one-credit restaurants. Since the prices for dining packages include your payment for the reserved seating, they usually cost a little more than a typical meal at the restaurant would. That means you might make more bang for your buck! Biergarten Previously, all dining packages at EPCOT were two-credit experiences, so this could save you some money in the long run — and some credits! We’ll keep you in the loop with more Dining Plan news, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest updates. Click Here to See the List of 2024 Dining Plan Restaurants! It’s been a pretty big year for Disney World closures. Disney’s Hollywood Studios We said goodbye to Splash Mountain, the Galactic Starcruiser Hotel, Harmonious, Tokyo Dining, and more, but there were some attractions and restaurants we still weren’t sure about. Disney hadn’t made any sort of announcements about these spots for quite some time — but now we have an official answer about one! Well, it’s official — Voyage of the Little Mermaid is permanently closed in Disney World. We had suspected this was the case for some time, but Disney’s latest announcement about a new show coming to the space means it’s true. Voyage of the Little Mermaid Voyage of the Little Mermaid was a stage show located in Animation Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It closed in 2020 with the rest of the parks for the pandemic but failed to reopen — and has sat vacant ever since. We speculated as to what might come of this space, and for a while Disney even showed signs of bringing it back, but now we know that isn’t the case. Voyage of the Little Mermaid The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” and is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Fall 2024 and will be a “fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic” of the same name. So, this show will be all about the original and not the live-action remake. ©Disney We’ll be on the lookout for more details about this new show, so stay tuned to DFB for more news about what might be coming to Disney World in 2024! Another new experience is coming to Disney World in 2024 and we’ve got all the details! “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Fall 2024! ©Disney The new show will be a reimagined show inspired by the original animated classic from Walt Disney Animation Studios. So, this show will be all about the original and not the live-action remake. The team at Disney Live Entertainment has been working on this show for over a year, exploring ways to bring new life to the beloved story of Ariel’s journey to be part of the human world. Ariel meeting in Fairytale Hall “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” will premiere at the Animation Courtyard theater, which is currently where the closed Voyage of The Little Mermaid show sits. When it opens, we can expect musical numbers like “Part of Your World,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” and “Kiss the Girl,” which is a new addition. We go to Disney World every single day. We believe in magic! And every single day, we notice new things that pop up here and there in the parks. We also love to keep tabs on all the construction and new things coming soon to the parks. One of our favorite places to spot new updates is Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Well, what will someday be Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Right now, it’s mostly just a bunch of construction. Well, and a queue. Speaking of which… Part of the queue over at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is officially OPEN. Yes, you read that correctly. Yes, we also find it a bit odd. Visitors were taking a gander and strolling through the open part of the queue. The queue is open! We’ve kept a close eye on the construction in the queue throughout this process, and while yes, the queue looked close to being complete a while ago, Disney doesn’t typically open the queues for visitor access prior to the attraction. The queue last week We do know that on the occasion, Disney will do this as they change theming throughout the area so that it’s a bit more consistent. This is our best guess as to what’s happening! Last week We’ll continue to keep you updated as we notice more and more changes over at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Make sure to follow along so that you never miss a thing and are always in the loop. Unfortunately, not all Disney attractions can stick around forever. Sleeping Beauty Castle Multiple attractions have closures scheduled for 2024, both those that are currently being reimagined into new rides, as well as some others that just need some scheduled maintenance. One Disney California Adventure attraction closed officially a few weeks ago, and we’re taking a look at it now that it’s blocked off. Beast’s Library was an attraction located inside the Sorcerer’s Workshop area in Disney California Adventure. Inside was modeled after Beast’s Library from the film, and you could see a magical portrait where Prince Adam went from boy to beast, and a book that would tell you what Disney character fit your personality. Sorcerer’s Workshop The attraction officially closed on December 10th and something new will be taking its place. While the rest of Sorcerer’s Workshop is still open, the attraction is now closed off to the public. The entrance is now blocked off We don’t know much yet about what this space will become, but KTLA5 reported that it will become part of Disney’s Imagination Campus, which helps build imagination and creativity in students. They often hold workshops to do just that, so this space may become a new space for them. Which also means it may never be available to the general public ever again. We’re sad to see it go! As most of you already know by now, some EXCITING updates will go into effect in January, 2024. Disney World The Disney Dining Plan will return, all-day park hopping will make a comeback, and of course — park pass reservation requirements will disappear for most visitors. Most visitors meaning… everyone except for Annual Passholders and Cast Members. Yep, Annual Passholders are included in the folks that will still need park pass reservations. Here’s what you should know. Disney announced earlier in the year that something called “Good to Go Days” would appear in Annual Passholders’ calendar in the Disney World app, the same place that blockout dates appear. These will replace the current Bonus Days (the days the Passholders can make reservations for beyond their reservation limit.) Annual Passholder Magnets Good to Go dates are dates when Passholders and Cast Members won’t need a park pass reservation and can just show up to the parks. These all begin to appear on Passholders’ calendars starting January 11th. But… what about all the other days? Annual Pass card Well, you’ll still need a reservation. Until 2PM, that is. After 2PM, you can go anywhere you want without a reservation, with the exception of Saturdays and Sundays in Magic Kingdom. Disney World Many Passholders find this frustrating, and we’re right there with ya. However, the updates are at least a little bit better than before — now that you can do whatcha want after 2PM and now that you’ll have those glorious Good to Go dates to look forward to. Oswald Magnet for Passholders We’ll continue to keep you updated with all things Disney and Passholder news, so make sure to follow along for more so that you never miss a thing. Brightline has made it easier to get to Disney World from Southern Florida, and now they’re about to make some West Coast people’s lives a bit easier, too! ©Brightline Brightline, the high-speed train that services Southern Florida, opened a station in Orlando making it even easier for people coming from Miami to get to Disney World. But now, it seems the West Coasters are also going to have access to some 200+ mile-per-hour travel soon! Brightline shared on their X/Twitter account that President Joe Biden is planning to invest $3 billion on the high-speed rail line to service the long trip between Los Angeles and Las Vegas! It can be common for people to fly into Las Vegas and drive to the Los Angeles area to go to Disneyland since it can be a lot cheaper. Usually, that trip can take anywhere from 4-7 hours. With a new Brightline train, it can be cut down to just over 2 HOURS! That’s a huge difference, especially for people who live in the area and commute back and forth often. Onboard a Brightline train Whether you’re trying to get to Las Vegas from Los Angeles or headed to Disneyland from Las Vegas, your trip is about to get easier with this massive expansion to the Brightline rail. Since we rode the Brightline train from Orlando to Miami, we have become big fans and look forward to this expansion. For more Disney news, keep following DFB! 2024 is going to be a big year in Disney World. Magic Kingdom We’re getting a new ride in Magic Kingdom, the Disney Dining Plan is returning, and Park Pass Reservations are going away for most guests. If, like us, you’re excited to finally hit the parks without having to worry about snagging a reservation — we have some news for you about how Virtual Queues will work in the new year! Starting on January 9th, Park Pass Reservations are going away for those with date-based tickets. On the same date, visitors who no longer need a park pass reservation will be able to book one attraction Virtual Queue at any theme park where they have valid admission. Visitors will only be able to hold one Virtual Queue at a time, however, so they won’t be able to book both TRON Lightcyle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at once. ©Disney Previously, guests would need to have a Park Pass Reservation to get a Virtual Queue at 7AM and would have to be in the park at 1PM if they wanted to get a Virtual Queue for a ride in that specific park at that time. Those hoping to get a Virtual Queue at 1PM will still need to be in the park to get one. TRON Lightcycle / Run Disney stated that select admission types may still need a reservation to book a Virtual Queue at 7AM, so Annual Passholders might still need to grab those reservations to book one. Disney World is constantly changing — that much is true. Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom But, some changes just straight up break our hearts, and we’ve been experiencing quite a bit of heartbreak lately — especially when it comes to food updates. Just when we think we’ve seen the worst of it — Disney goes and breaks our hearts yet again. First, Disney World changed the sauce served with Mr. Kamal’s Fries in Animal Kingdom. More recently, Chicken Guy! trimmed their sauce lineup from 22 to a mere 10. And now, we’ve got more devastating sauce news from Disney World. Honey mustard has been disappearing from quick-service restaurants! Honey mustard Our reporters have discovered that at certain Disney World casual eateries, honey mustard dipping sauce is no longer available. You can typically find it at most spots that serve chicken tenders and things like that, but we’ve noticed that the sauce is missing from some of our favorites — like Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe, Pecos Bill’s, and Backlot Express. Honey Mustard Luckily, honey mustard is still currently available at Columbia Harbour House, but we’ll let you know if that changes. We’ll be on the hunt for more honey mustard holdouts in Disney World and will keep you apprised of our findings. We’re so excited that you’re planning a Disney cruise! Disney Magic If you’re like us, you’re already wondering about the FOOD available on your cruise. You’ve found the right place to help you dig in. We’ve got a full look at the Disney Magic menus for you today! As Disney’s first cruise ship, the Disney Magic set sail on June 30, 1998. Disney Cruise Line’s first ship introduced some innovative dining concepts at sea. One thing you should know about DCL ships before we dive into menus — Disney introduced the concept of “rotational dining” on cruises. That means instead of one main dining room, Disney Cruise ships have three different, heavily-themed restaurants, and you rotate through dining at each one on different nights during your cruise. Your servers even move from restaurant to restaurant with you! Captain Mickey The Disney Magic has three restaurants for rotational dining: Rapunzel’s Royal Table, Animator’s Palate, and Lumiere’s. Now, let’s dive into those Disney Magic Cruise Ship Menus! Disney Magic Casual Dining Cabanas is where you go for that quintessential cruise buffet experience. Find it on Deck 9. Cabana’s Buffet Duck-In Diner, Pinocchio’s Pizzeria, and Daisy’s De-Lites quick service offer a variety of casual nosh near the pools on Deck 9. The Duck-In Diner is a quick-service spot that serves Middle Eastern-inspired food like shawarma as well as classic American food like hamburgers and hot dogs. Duck-In Diner Pinocchio’s Pizzeria offers pizza by the slice, located near Goofy’s Pool on the Magic. Options include cheese, pepperoni, vegetarian, or Hawaiian, among other toppings. ©Disney Eye Scream is a snack stand named after Mike Wazowski from Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. It is a self-service soft serve ice cream kiosk near the pools on Deck 9. Eye Scream Frozone Treats is a poolside spot that mixes up refreshing, frozen-fruit smoothies. Don’t miss Frozone! Preludes offers a quick stop for drinks, snacks, cocktails, and candy before shows. Located next to Walt Disney Theatre. Additional fees apply. An Overview of EVERY Disney Cruise Line Restaurant Disney Magic Rotational Dining Animator’s Palate The Animator’s Palate restaurant is all about animation. The dining room nods to artists and hand-drawn designs, and guests can watch an “innovative dinner show that celebrates the art of storytelling” while they eat. Animator’s Palate The food here is a fusion of eats from the Pacific Islands, Asia, and California. Dishes include options like smoked salmon tartar, butternut squash soup, grilled tuna steak, and Angus beef tenderloin. Leave room for dessert! You’ll have options such as chocolate fudge cheesecake and lemon icebox pie. Lumiere’s This restaurant is themed after Beauty and the Beast, and you’ll get to dine in a room inspired by the grand ballroom from that movie. Lumiere’s Besides the rotational dinners, Lumiere’s is also open for breakfast and lunch, and the tables are open-seating at that time. Breakfast options include French toast, omelets, pancakes, crêpes, and more. Lunch is served as a three-course meal with options like grilled chicken, barbecue pork ribs, and herb-crusted fish. Dinner is a four-course meal, with American and French dishes. Appetizers include a mushroom tart, french onion soup, or duck confit. Some entrée options are roasted duck breast, three-cheese lobster macaroni, or “Lumiere’s” seared sea bass. A dessert menu is also available. Rapunzel’s Royal Table This restaurant is themed after the Disney film Tangled. The premise is that you’re invited to Rapunzel’s birthday celebration, which will include visits from Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, and the Snuggly Duckling thugs. The dining room is set to look like a ballroom with glowing lanterns to light the tables. Rapunzel’s Royal Table The food here is described as “American favorites and fresh-food flavors from around the globe.” Some appetizer options are beef and mushroom ravioli, ahi tuna tartar, asparagus and broccoli soup, and smoked salmon salad. Entrées include dishes like pan-seared sea bass, roasted chicken, smoked pork loin, and roasted prime rib. Rapunzel’s Royal Table There are also dessert options, a vegetarian menu (with choices like chili-spiced tofu ramen and vegetable-potato crêpes), and a kids’ menu. REVIEW: Animator’s Palate on the Disney Dream Cruise Ship Specialty Dining Palo Palo is an adults-only restaurant with a semi-formal dress code. Meals here are not included with the cost of your cruise. The cost for a meal at brunch or dinner is $50 per person. Palo The menu allows you to choose from options like antipasti, eggs, waffles and pancakes, soups, flatbreads, and an assortment of entrees (grilled cut sirloin steak, wild mushroom ravioli, and more). At dinner, begin your meal with a glass of wine from the extensive menu. You’ll be greeted with bread service and antipasto to start! For your entree, choose from an assortment of offerings such as butternut agnolotti, sea scallops, and grilled prime beef tenderloin. Agnolotti The dessert menu also has quite a selection to choose from, like souffles, cakes, and a variety of gelatos. Try the impressive chocolate souffle! Here’s our review of Palo Steakhouse! Royal Court Royal Tea (Dining Experience) This is a special dining experience that requires advanced reservations. Kids ages 3 to 12 can have a tea party with Disney princesses, which includes entertainment, a selection of herbal teas, and a two-course meal. The meal includes one sweet and one savory course. Royal Court Royal Tea The experience costs $220 each for children and $69 for the adults who accompany them. Attention, Disney World Annual Passholders! A BIG ticket change is coming SOON, and it’ll probably affect your next trip to the parks! Annual Pass card Disney previously announced that “Good-To-Go” days were coming for Annual Passholders and Cast Members. These are days when Passholders and Cast Members will NOT have to make a Park Pass Reservation to enter the theme parks. Now, we know when those “Good-To-Go” days will be released! Good-To-Go Days will be visible in the Annual Passholder calendar starting on January 11th, 2024. They will also be visible for Cast Members in their calendar starting on that day. On these days, Annual Passholders and Cast Members can visit ANY of the four Disney World theme parks without a Park Pass Reservation. Disney World Annual Pass Note that Annual Passholders and Cast Members still need to make Park Pass Reservations on most days, even after park passes disappear for date-based tickets on January 9th, 2024. The Good-To-Go days are an exception to this rule. Annual Pass entrance at Magic Kingdom You can view the Good-To-Go Days on the Theme Park Reservation calendar, the Annual Passholder admissions calendar, and the Disney World app. Disney announced that more Good-To-Go Days will be added periodically. The dates could be released days or weeks at a time, so you’ll want to check those calendars frequently in case new ones pop up. Annual Pass Keep in mind that blockout days will still apply for Annual Passholders and Cast Members. Annual Passholders and Cast Members will still need park passes on days that are not “Good-To-Go,” but don’t forget that all-day Park Hopping is returning on January 9th! As long as Annual Passholders have a Park Pass Reservation and enter that park first, they can hop over to any other park at any time of day (provided it’s during park hours, of course) starting on the 9th. So if you’re not able to get the park pass you want, just get one for a different park, enter that park, and then immediately hop to the one you wanted originally. Annual Pass entrance Annual Passholders can also visit any theme park after 2PM without a Park Pass Reservation, although Magic Kingdom is excluded from this rule on Saturdays and Sundays. So, to sum up, Annual Passholders WILL need a Park Pass Reservation to visit Disney World parks EXCEPT in these situations: Good-To-Go Days Any day after 2PM, excluding Magic Kingdom on Saturdays and Sundays (Starting January 9th) You have a Park Pass and have entered that park — at this point, you can hop to any other park at any time of day. Scanning in If you’re not sure whether you need a Park Pass Reservation or not, you can visit Disney World’s website to see all the requirements.
