Did someone say shopping? Loungefly Bags Count us in! We’re here for any and all new Disney merch that we can get our hands on. ESPECIALLY when it comes to accessories. Oh, this is about accessories? Say less, we’re buying them all now. Loungefly is coming out with three (3!!) NEW Disney-themed collections in January, and we’re so excited that we can barely contain ourselves. It’s time to take a look at what is going to be coming our way in the new year! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. We can admit it, we may enjoy shopping a little too much. However, that won’t stop us. When it comes to Disney merch, there are always new things coming out that are too good to pass up. We caught wind of these new Loungefly collections, and we need to talk about them before we combust… and preorder them ASAP. Minnie Rocks the Dots The first collection we have to talk about (and envy) is Minnie Rocks the Dots. We all know that Minnie Mouse can make polka dots work with any outfit– and this collection showcases that! Get the Mini Backpack ©Entertainment Earth First up, in this collection, is this stunning Loungefly! This collection is all about polka dots, and this bag doesn’t disappoint. We are obsessed with the different dot designs that are combined so beautifully. Plus– can we talk about how cute Minnie is on this bag?! We wish we had her level of chill. Check it out! Grab a New Sherpa Tote Bag ©Entertainment Earth Next up in this collection, is this Sherpa tote bag! We love how fuzzy this bag looks and we can’t wait to get our hands on it. It features a vintage-inspired Minnie Mouse Charm and a leather bow– and we have to say, we’re loving the leather/sherpa combo. It also has a strap so you can turn this bag into a crossbody! Versatility at its finest. Check it out! Get This Leather Wallet ©Entertainment Earth This wallet finishes off the Rock the Dots collection– and it is the cherry on top. This flap wallet has 9 card slots and a slot for your ID. It even comes with a zipper compartment for your cash and change. This wallet may be small, but it is mighty! Check it out! Disney Villains Curse Your Hearts This collection is about all things evil– but we love it anyway! We know the Villains are the bad guys in their movies, but they still hold a special place in our hearts. We love seeing them get the recognition that they deserve. Get This Villains Mini Backpack ©Entertainment Earth First up, we have this iconic mini backpack. We are loving the unbothered looks that Ursula and The Evil Queen have on their faces. Even Flotsam and Jetsam match that energy, and we love to see it. It looks like they’re even prepared for their next trip to Disney World with those umbrellas. Maybe we’ll see them in the parks soon! Check it out! Pick up a NEW Crossbody Bag ©Entertainment Earth This crossbody has the same design as the mini backpack but is put together in a different way. We are obsessed with how it turned out! You can hold this bag by the handle on the top or use the long strap to use it as a crossbody. The back of it has Ursula. We’re preordering this one ASAP. Check it out! Get This Wristlet Wallet ©Entertainment Earth When you have bags as cute as the ones we just talked about, you need something to put in them! Look no further than this wallet. This adds Maleficent and Hades into the mix, looking as unbothered as ever. This wallet has 7 card slots as well as a space for your ID, cash, and change. It truly is the one-stop shop for all of your wallet needs. Check it out! Mickey and Minnie Date Night This collection gives off all of the retro vibes. From diners to drive-ins, this collection has it all. We’re kind of obsessed with this style and want to see more of it– like, yesterday. Get This Mini Backpack ©Entertainment Earth This mini backpack takes us with Mickey and Minnie on their date at the drive-ins. Their license plate even says “Love28”, referring to the year the couple was created! It looks like their movie is on an intermission right now– do you think they’ll get up and go get some snacks? We know we would. Check it out! Grab a Nylon Mini Backpack ©Entertainment Earth We see so many leather mini-backpacks that once we saw this nylon one, we knew we needed it in our collection. This bag shows off Mickey and Minnie’s dinner date at a diner– we hope they had a good time! This really leans into the 50’s diner vibes, and it is the perfect addition to any collection. Check it out! Add a Nylon Wristlet ©Entertainment Earth This wristlet is sticking with the Nylon fabric and its pattern. Mickey and Minnie are still on their date and it looks like they have some control over the jukebox! This wristlet is more of a pouch– so there aren’t any card slots, but it is a perfect place to keep everything in one spot! Check it out! You Need These Record Ears ©Entertainment Earth This Minnie ear headband is the PERFECT thing to complete this collection. The records match the color scheme of the nylon bag and wristlet. The blue and pink combo complement each other so well and adding the black and white checkered bow into the mix ties it all together. Ahem, we’re pre-ordering ALL of these ASAP. Check it out! We are so excited for these collections to be released in January! There are so many different items to choose from that honestly, we may just get one of everything (because, once again, we may or may not have a shopping problem). Make sure you pre-order yours before they sell out. We’ll let you know when we find some new collections, but until then keep checking back into DFB to see what we find next! Looking for some park essentials? Look no further! Which one of these collections resonates with you the most? Let us know in the comments below! Flying during the holidays can be stressful. Orlando International Airport Terminal C It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on your flight status and get to the airport early so you’re prepared for crowds and delays. With so many people traveling this time of year, small hiccups aren’t uncommon, but what happens when a major airline has a massive number of flight cancelations and delays? If you tried to fly with Southwest Airlines during the 2022 holiday season, you might have been affected by the company’s service meltdown. Now, the company has been saddled with a record-breaking fine for how it handled the disruptions. During the 2022 holiday season, an arctic blast made its way across the U.S., leaving a staggering number of travelers stranded in the wake of flight cancelations. Southwest Airlines had a particularly tough time during all of this, stating insufficient infrastructure and winter equipment as major contributors. ©Southwest The problems led to nearly 17,000 flight cancelations and more than 2 million stranded passengers, and the company spent the following month putting out related fires. The CEO released a public apology video, sales were offered to incentivize travelers to book with the company, and new strategies were put into place to offset further cancelations. But, that didn’t stop the government from holding the company accountable. Southwest Airlines at the Orlando Airport According to NBC News, the Transportation Department fined Southwest Airlines a record-breaking $140 million fine following a yearlong investigation. The civil penalty, which will mostly go toward future Southwest travelers impacted by last year’s cancelations, is “30 times larger than any prior department penalty for consumer protection violations.” Southwest Airplane According to the department, Southwest violated multiple consumer protection laws when it failed to offer proper customer service during the disruptions, prompt flight status updates, and prompt and appropriate refunds. Orlando International Airport Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement regarding the penalty, “Today’s action sets a new precedent and sends a clear message: if airlines fail their passengers, we will use the full extent of our authority to hold them accountable,” commenting that airlines should take every possible step to make sure this kind of meltdown doesn’t happen again. ©Southwest Airlines Southwest communicated that it “is committed to delivering the highest standard of excellence in Customer Service” and that it is “pleased” to have reached this settlement, which includes setting $90 million aside for vouchers for future travelers. Southwest will provide a $75 voucher for passengers who arrive at their destination more than three hours after initially scheduled. It’s Christmas week in Disney World, and you know what that means! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! It’s about to get busy! Christmas week is one of the most popular weeks to visit Disney World, and we understand why. It’s so festive around the parks during the holidays. Everything is decorated, Christmas music can be heard everywhere, and we can’t forget about the SNOAP. But because of how even MORE magical it is this week, we all want to be there. However, if you don’t already have your park reservations made, you might be out of luck, at least in one park. We were looking on the Disney website today and noticed that park passes are getting very limited this week. There is a lot of yellow (meaning at least one park is sold out on those days) for ticket holders. Magic Kingdom is sold out on multiple days and Hollywood Studios is sold out on the 19th! We are expecting those days to be very busy and won’t be surprised if the price of Genie+ jumps up on those days, too. ©Disney Luckily, resort guests have a bit more flexibility when it comes to picking their park this week, but it’s still fairly limited. Both options, however, have limited options on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve. Magic Kingdom is pretty much sold out on every yellow-blocked day for guests of resorts and general ticket holders. ©Disney It’s not uncommon for multiple Disney World parks to fill to capacity on these major holidays. So if you haven’t made park reservations yet, it will be good to be a bit more flexible. Also, after December 19th, most Annual Passholders will no longer be able to enter the parks. This could cause December 19th to be extremely busy! Christmas in Magic Kingdom We’ll be keeping tabs on the crowds and Genie+ this week, so keep checking back for updates. We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and happy holidays! For more Disney updates, keep following DFB! Photos and Reviews: ALL the 2023 Holiday Treats in Walt Disney World! 2024 is shaping up to be a BIG year for Disney World. Cinderella Castle New restaurants and rides will be opening, the Disney Dining Plan is coming back, park passes are going away, and all-day park hopping is returning! It’s a lot of change in a short amount of time, and if you’re visiting Disney World for the first time in a while you’re probably trying to decide just what your plan of attack should be. When it comes to park hopping, we think we’ve figured out the BEST order to do it — and no, we will not be taking any questions. DISCLAIMER! This is a general consensus we came to as a team — but that doesn’t mean it’s the only park-hopping order to go in! We’re also mostly lying about this being a general consensus because there was a HOT debate among us here at DFB. There are plenty of reasons why you might want to start in one park and end in another and that is a-okay. We just happen to think this is the best order! Animal Kingdom Look, DFB Reader, at everything the light touches in Animal Kingdom. But, on a serious note, we recommend starting your day off in Animal Kingdom. This park opens earlier than the other parks, so it makes sense to start here if you’re truly trying to maximize your time. Not only that, but a lot of the animals are most active during morning hours, making this a great leisurely start to your day. Hop on Kilimanjaro Safaris as soon as it opens to wake up with the animals — it’s hard to beat that! Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom Of course, there are also thrills to be had in Animal Kingdom, so if that’s what you’re after you can make your way straight to Expedition Everest or Flight of Passage. There’s also no shortage of breakfast options — both quick and leisurely — to choose from, and some of our favorites can be found here. Plus, you can get Ngumu Jungle Juice here and since that has POG juice in it, it’s basically breakfast. Again, no questions, please. Hollywood Studios From Animal Kingdom, you’re going to want to make your way over to Hollywood Studios. In this scenario, we’re assuming you’ve purchased Genie+ for the day to fit in as many rides as possible — so by this time you should have enough banked up that you can hit the ground running (but not really because you shouldn’t run in the parks.) Visit Toy Story Land, Grand Avenue, Galaxy’s Edge, and more to hit as many of those must-do attractions as possible. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Hollywood Studios is also a great park for snacking — you can grab a breakfast or lunch Ronto Wrap, a Lunch Box Tart or some totchos, a big pretzel from Baseline, and more. There are great lunch options, too, but if you’ve had a decent breakfast, we recommend just sticking with a snack because the real eating event is going to take place at the next park we’re hopping to. Plus, it’s good to get a bunch of rides in back to back if you’re trying to make the most of your time. EPCOT From Hollywood Studios, we’re hopping on the Skyliner and making our way to EPCOT! It’s time to experience all this park has to offer. Since the Skyliner drops you off at the International Gateway, starting off in the World Showcase will be your best bet — which is perfect, because by now you’ve worked up an appetite for eating and drinking your way around the world! Depending on when you’re visiting, there will likely be an EPCOT Festival taking place — which is even better. EPCOT’s NEW glowing ground After you’ve explored the World Showcase, you can visit EPCOT’s other neighborhoods to experience the future, nature, and discovery — along with some of our favorite rides in the whole park. Chances are it might be getting dark now, so stick around for the Spaceship Earth light show — bonus points if you view it from the newly opened World Celebration Gardens that light up at night. Magic Kingdom Once you’re ready to leave EPCOT, hop on the Monorail and head to Magic Kingdom! You can plan to arrive early enough to have plenty of time to catch the fireworks — but if you don’t care about seeing the fireworks, well, that’s even better. You see, while everyone else is watching the show, you can walk right onto some of the most popular rides in the park. Assuming you’ve still been working your Genie+ magic, too, you can fit a lot of rides into a short amount of time at Magic Kingdom. Cinderella Castle And, you’ve already eaten your way around EPCOT, which is perfect because Magic Kingdom is a great park for dessert. You’ve got Gaston’s Tavern, the Main Street Confectionery, Storybook Treats, Aloha Isle, and so many more options. We love grabbing something from the Confectionery on Mobile Order as we make our way out of the park! Main Street at night Of course, as we said before, there’s no real “right” way to hop between parks. But, now that all-day park hopping is coming back in 2024, you can do the experiment yourself and decide! For the latest news from around Disney World and more, stay tuned to DFB! Is it just us, or has 2023 just been FILLED with exciting news and hints from Disney? Cinderella Castle We’re already starting 2024 off with a bang — the Disney Dining Plan is returning, all-day park hopping will also make a comeback, and park pass reservation requirements are disappearing for most ticketed visitors. Not to mention, exciting new additions are coming to the parks in 2024 — from CommuniCore Hall and Plaza in EPCOT to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom. Speaking of new park additions, though, we got a glimpse at some things that Disney plans to add to the parks. One of the things we’re most excited about? The new land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom! At the D23 fan convention in September, Disney shared that DinoLand U.S.A. in Animal Kingdom would undergo a re-theme, which will potentially include elements inspired by the Tropical-Americas and the Disney films that take place there — like Encanto. Concept art for DinoLand expansion ©Disney The concept art shown at the convention featured concept art with a house that looked super familiar to Casita in Encanto, and this same concept art was shown on a special edition of 20/20 — titled “Disney100: A Century of Dreams.” It’s the same concept art! You’re probably thinking, “So what? We’ve already seen this.” Well, for Disney to air this concept art on 20/20 and share details, we have a feeling that this theming could be more official than Disney previously hinted. Casita Even Lin Manuel-Miranda made an appearance on the show, exclaiming, “I want to go inside Casita, don’t you? I don’t even know what that would look like, but some genius imagineer does!” Lin Manuel-Miranda So, we think this could be a BIG hint and maybe even subtle confirmation that this is the direction that Disney plans to take with the area. Of course, we don’t know for certain, and things could always change, but we don’t think they’d share an idea on live television unless they had some pretty sturdy plans in their back pocket. Could ‘Encanto’ really be coming to Animal Kingdom? We’ll just have to wait and see! We’ll continue to keep you updated with more Disney news, so make sure to follow along for more so that you’re always in the loop. Disney also shared a new look at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure on 20/20! We have been watching the construction of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure over in Magic Kingdom for a while now. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Water Tower We have seen the water tower go up, new stone walkways for the queues be put in, and even more construction walls go up. Though we have a while to go until the estimated completion in 2024, we still get excited about every new detail we get about this ride. Now, we just got a new look INSIDE of the attraction. Up until now, we have only seen concept art from inside of the ride. With lots of vegetation and familiar friends, it certainly looks like we’ll be cruising along in New Orleans with the new sneak peek Disney shared! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Concept Art ©Disney Now, we have a look at the work that they have been doing INSIDE of the ride. Disney shared a new look inside Tiana’s Bayou Adventure during a special edition of 20/20 on ABC. “Disney100: A Century of Dreams” aired on December 15th. Here you can see Imagineers working hard inside of the attraction. @Disney During the special, it was mentioned that Imagineers spent close to 3 years researching food, foliage, and the culture of New Orleans. @Disney The foliage continues to the exterior of the ride, which we have already seen begin to take form. Here’s a look at the concept art that Disney has shared. @Disney Disneyland will also be getting a Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and both are slated to open in 2024. @Disney We’ll bring you more Disney news as we find it so stay tuned to us at DFB. If you came to Disney World this week, we hope you packed for some strange weather! Blizzard Beach Over the weekend, Florida was hit with a powerful storm, which isn’t particularly common this time of year. Today, temperatures will reach the low 50s! Hopefully, you brought the proper rain gear and a way to stay warm, but if you packed a swimsuit intending to enjoy a water park this week, we have some bad news for you. Today, December 18th, 2023 Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park is closed due to the weather. Summit Plummet Occasionally, Disney will close its water parks temporarily if the weather isn’t ideal for drawing crowds. Currently, Disney doesn’t list any available times for this park until Thursday, December 21st, when it is set to open from 10AM to 5PM. Blizzard Beach Keep in mind that these hours are subject to change depending on the weather. If you were hoping to stop by Blizzard Beach this week, keep an eye out for any changes! We are ONE WEEK from Christmas Day! Christmastime in Magic Kingdom Of course, Disney World has had their decorations up since early November so we’ve been in the holiday spirit for a while now. We have been able to enjoy delicious treats and the huge gingerbread displays at all of the resorts. While there is so much fun to be found at Disney World this time of year, it’s not all sugar plums and candy canes. There is a massive downside to coming to the parks this time of year. If you’ve been to Disney World right around Christmas, then you know what we’re talking about — the CROWDS. It’s no secret that this time of year attracts so many visitors to the parks. One hint as to the crowd level is the price of Genie+. The crowds are here! We saw a large jump in Genie+ pricing for today. For the multiple parks option or Magic Kingdom, you will pay $29 per person today. This is a $4 increase from yesterday. As for the rest of the parks, you can expect to pay $26 for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, $21 for EPCOT, and $18 for Disney’s Animal Kingdom. ©Disney If you are heading to Disney World soon for this holiday season, be prepared to see Genie+ prices continue to increase especially as we get closer to the holidays. You’ll also want to pack some patience with you as crowds will increase meaning longer lines not only for rides but for food and restrooms too. Our biggest advice is to have that expectation going in so that you aren’t surprised by the long lines. Crowds at Big Thunder Mountain For more Disney news, be sure to follow us at Disney Food Blog. Don’t Make My Mistake. These Are the Days When Disney Genie+ is a Waste of Money. One of the best things you can do in Disney World is meet your favorite characters. Donald meeting guests in Mexico We will never NOT take the opportunity to hug Mickey or have breakfast with Minnie and her friends. We LOVE meeting newer characters, too, in the parks, like Moana and Asha! But if you’re planning on meeting some characters in Disney World, we’ve got to warn you about a problem you may come across. One of the things you need to be aware of when you meet characters in Disney World is when the characters STOP meeting. Why? Well, timing is everything, especially for more popular character meet-and-greet locations (for example, Mickey at Town Square Theater in Magic Kingdom). Hey, Mickey! That means if you wait to get in line closer to when that meet and greet closes, you may not actually be able to get in line. Cast Members will often close lines early if they’re looking long and it looks like they could go over closing time (remember, those characters have been there for a while!). Just because a character is meeting people outside, for example, does NOT mean they will continue to meet new guests that aren’t yet in line. Daisy So we recommend if there’s a character you really want to meet, prioritize that meet and greet for earlier in your day or as close to the start time as possible. Even better, some character meetings are on Genie+, and if they tend to have long lines, you might want to just use Genie+ to access that meet and greet’s Lightning Lane. You can also keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app so you know when those character meets start and end each day. Minnie at Red Carpet Dreams in Hollywood Studios If you want guaranteed face time with characters, though, your best bet might be to book a character dining experience; you can book breakfast, lunch, and dinner with princesses, the Fab Five, Chip ‘n’ Dale, and more. Disney World IS magic, and you can’t convince us otherwise. We believe in magic! That’s because Cast Members spend so much of their time and energy creating that magic, whether they’re sprinkling pixie dust on our heads, creating unique art out of water or flowers on Disney World’s sidewalks, or just offering us extra magic when something goes wrong. But we’ve got a story about how a Disney World GUEST created magic for a Cast Member (warning, get those tissues). We recently met Cast Member Tanya, from Boston, Massachusetts, and she shared a sweet story with us. As you can see, she’s got a pin trading board. We had a question about pin trading, and as we approached, she apologized if she looked like she’d been crying. It turns out she’d just had an amazing interaction with a guest. (Seriously, get those tissues right now before you keep reading!) Tanya Tanya told us that a guest had approached her to trade a pin and had asked her about her history with pin trading. Tanya explained to the guest that she didn’t grow up trading pins because her mother didn’t have extra money, so they couldn’t afford to. The guest then went into her own pin collection and picked out THIS pin of Kanga and Roo to represent Tanya and her mother to start Tanya’s pin collection. The pin We told you this would make you cry, but it also restores our faith in humanity. It’s such a sweet story, and we want to thank Tanya for sharing it with us and letting us share it with all of YOU. Tanya showing off her new pin Remember that you can make magic for Cast Members in a variety of ways, even if it’s just offering a Cast Compliment in the My Disney Experience app or even making sure to say “Thank you” every chance you get. When it comes to fast food dining spots in Disney World, you probably know we have our faves. Chicken Guy! We will hit up places like Casey’s Corner, Satu’li Canteen, and Woody’s Lunch Box on a regular basis. But when we’re in Disney Springs, there’s one spot we tend to eat at the most: Chicken Guy! Why? Well, we keep getting proof that this is some of the BEST chicken in the area. Now we’re back to try THREE new sandwiches PLUS a shake, so let’s see if this fast food spot still delivers. First, we had to get over our disappointment at the major sauce change at Chicken Guy!, but we’re glad we made the trek back over there to try out these three new sandwiches. This place needs some redeeming in our eyes after the sauce situation. So, let’s get to it. We ordered the Hot Honey Big Bite Sandwich, made with two Hot Tenders, Nashville Hot Honey, American Slaw, and Pickles, for $9.49. Note you can get these crispy fried or grilled, but yeah, we got them FRIED. Go big or go home, right? Hot Honey Big Bite Sandwich Excuse us because we’re gonna need a minute. Right off the bat, this was our new favorite sandwich here. It’s sweet and spicy, which is pretty much the perfect combo for us. The crispy chicken is tender on the inside, and you get some nice crunch and brightness from the slaw and pickles. But warning: this is SWEET and SPICY, though for us, it was perfect. Those flavors might be too much for some people, though. Sweet and Spicy Next up, we dove into the Buffalo Ranch Big Bite Sandwich for $8.99. Btw, these really are BIG BITES. This is made with two Chicken Tenders, Shredded Lettuce, Buffalo, and Buffalo Ranch. Again, you’ve got some nice and crispy chicken to start with, plus you get additional crunch from the fresh lettuce. Buffalo Ranch Big Bite Sandwich We do have one complaint, though — it would make SO much more sense to toss the chicken in the sauce. The way ours was prepared, the sauce was added separately, and it just OOZES out the side and you miss out on that flavor. It is spicy, but not SUPER spicy, plus the buttermilk ranch, which is nice and light, mellows out that heat. Sauce oozes out Okay, hold up because we’re STILL not done. We HAD to get the Buffalo Mac ‘n’ Cheese Big Bite Sandwich for $9.99. This one has two Chicken Tenders, Mac ‘n’ Cheese, Smoked Bacon, Buffalo, SMC, and Garlic Parmesan. We prefer this over the regular Buffalo Ranch — the Mac ‘n’ Cheese is creamy and herby but wasn’t so mushy that it fell out of the sandwich. The bacon — well, bacon is always a nice salty addition to mac ‘n’ cheese, in our opinion. Buffalo Mac ‘n’ Cheese Big Bite Sandwich The SMC (Super Melty Cheese) is the same cheese you get on the Loaded Fries here, so yes, it just means even MORE cheesiness, and well, it’s no secret how much we love cheese. It did make things a little messy, though, and you might end up wearing some of that cheese. It’s very cheesy So you might think we’d stop at three sandwiches, but you would be wrong because we thought we’d also grab the Holiday Cookie Shake for $6.99. It’s made with Hand-spun Vanilla Soft Serve, Blended with Sugar Cookies and Caramel Drizzle, topped with Marshmallow Whipped Cream, Mini Chocolate Candy Pieces, Holiday Sprinkles, AND a Cookie. WHEW! Holiday Cookie Shake Okay, so there is a LOT going on here, but we were HERE for it. Although it’s mostly a vanilla milkshake, it actually did taste a lot like a sugar cookie. The marshmallow whipped cream was also thick and a lot of fun. Note that you only get half a cookie (which is MORE than enough with everything else happening here), but the cookie is soft and delicious, although it gets a little mushy the longer it sits in the milkshake. Needless to say, if you’re looking for a light dessert, this is NOT it. Soggy cookie So, does Chicken Guy! still live up to our expectations? Well, despite the loss of about half of those amazing sauces, we’d still return here again and again for the chicken and occasional milkshake. What can we say? Fried chicken stays winning. In the real world, buffets are often places you wanna avoid. Buffets! However, at Disney World, buffets are a big, delicious opportunity to eat as much as you want and put your stretchy pants to good use without judgment. There are several great buffet options at Disney World, and there’s no wrong way to take on a Disney buffet. Want three rounds of appetizers? Four rounds of dessert? Have at it. However, there are a few things that we never do at these buffets. If you do any of these things, the world will keep on spinning and your vacation will continue with magical glee. However, if you want the best experience possible, DON’T do these things! Get up all at once at character buffets. If you’re at a character buffet, we wouldn’t recommend getting up for food all at once. There are often folks who miss the characters coming to their table because they’re all at the buffet. How sad is that?! Daisy There is good news, though. If this does happen to you, just tell your server or a Cast Member in a blue shirt. They’ll make sure you get to meet the character! Reuse plates and bowls. ICK!!! This is a rule of thumb at any buffet. Please don’t re-use your plates or bowls! This is how so many germs are spread at buffets. Get a new plate every time Usually, there are Cast Members there that catch the situation before it happens. However, we have seen folks reusing their plates Imultiple times. It’s never a good sight to see. Don’t do this, please! Forget to check the actual menu. It might be a buffet, but there are also usually great options on the physical menu as well. Drink menu We usually snag specialty beverages, press pots, allergy-friendly options, and MORE on the physical menus. If one isn’t already on your table, just ask your server to see one. Well, we hope you feel more prepared to head to the buffets now. We’ll continue to keep you updated with more Disney news and advice, so make sure to follow along for more so that you never miss a thing. Looking for more on Disney World dining? Click here! If you haven’t visited Disneyland Resort in a while, you might not realize just how much AMAZING food you can get there (and yes, it rivals Disney World food, and dare we say, it’s often BETTER). Royal Street Veranda 2023 Menu From Disneyland staples like corn dogs, churros, and Mickey beignets to newer foods like breakfast chimichangas and the Garlic Cheesy Pretzel Bread, we just want to spend our days eating our way around the parks. But a new food just arrived in the parks, and we’re just going to tell you right now — this one is quickly moving up to the top of our list. If you’ve ever visited Disneyland, you’ve probably at least heard of the Monte Cristo sandwich that you can get at Blue Bayou Restaurant and Cafe Orleans. We’re BIG fans of that sandwich. Well, when we learned that Disneyland had created a NEW version of the Monte Cristo with WAFFLES, you know we wanted to try that out. Meet the Waffle Cristo *insert heavenly music here*. The Waffle Cristo This is made with Rosemary Ham, Turkey, and Swiss Waffle dusted in Powdered Sugar, served with a side of Strawberry Preserves and Maple Syrup. You can get either a half order for $6.99 or a full order for $10.99. Um…yes, we got the full order, OF COURSE. No skipping out on our old favorite, the Monte Cristo. Isn’t it beautiful? So the main focus of this sandwich is the meat — we loved how rich the ham flavor was, with just a hint of rosemary (it’s very subtle). The waffle is PERFECT: crunchy on the outside and then soft in the middle. Also, a warning: The smell of waffles baking in the kitchen will DRIVE YOU CRAZY while you’re waiting for your meal. Tastes as good as it looks The syrup adds a nice, sweet maple flavor that works SO well with the ham and turkey, making it both sweet and savory. You also get some strawberry jam with it if you want to sweeten it up even more. We will say we didn’t taste much of the Swiss cheese, though — the other flavors come on a lot stronger. This is one of our favorite Disneyland snacks we’ve had in a LONG time. It’s basically that classic Monte Cristo we already love but inside a waffle. WIN!!! We WILL be getting this again Okay, we do have to tell you this. You can ONLY order this sandwich for breakfast (which is a shame), so you’ll want to get to the park EARLY to try it out. But it is a FILLING breakfast, and so worth waking up a little earlier. It’s available now at Royal Street Veranda. Stay tuned to DFB for more reviews! So it’s no secret that Disney World will ALWAYS be changing, and that’s part of why we love visiting so much. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Just this year alone, we welcomed some new attractions, saw a hotel close forever, got to eat in a brand new restaurant, and more! Well, things are about to change even more at Disney World hotels and — dare we say — these are some good changes! So let’s see what we can look forward to! New Rooms and Upgrades Many of Disney World’s hotels are getting new rooms, and although that means that some of these hotels are currently under construction, you’ll have new rooms to look forward to soon. Over at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn, rooms are getting a big upgrade. Rooms at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort are also being upgraded with a Mary Poppins theme. Other hotels getting room upgrades include Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort. New room at Grand Floridian Not only that, but an entirely new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) villa is being built at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort will get some redesigned DVC cabins. Disney’s Boardwalk Inn and Grand Floridian also recently got lobby refreshes. Three restaurants have also received makeovers at the Grand Floridian: Narcoosee’s, Citricos, and Victoria & Albert’s Restaurant. Learn more about these room upgrades “Hey, Disney!” Okay, so we know not EVERYONE is a big fan of Hey, Disney, but it’s getting rolled out to more hotels throughout Disney World. However, the Hey, Disney AI assistant on Amazon Alexa devices in hotel rooms is a game changer. Basically, “Hey, Disney!” will help you with anything you might need during your stay. Need extra towels? No problem. Need information about park hours? The assistant has got your back. If you’ve ever used a voice assistant at home or on your phone, you’ll know how helpful it can be. Hey, Disney at Art of Animation Resort However, if you don’t want a device that is “always listening,” you do have the option of disabling it during your stay. But we think it’s one of the most helpful features Disney has ever added to hotel rooms. Learn more about “Hey, Disney!” New Restaurants Okay, we saved the BEST for last because new restaurants are coming to Disney World hotels. If anything gets us excited, it’s new food! Disney’s Boardwalk is not getting just one new restaurant, but TWO, and one is already pretty famous in Disneyland. If you’ve ever heard of the Pickle Corn Dog, you’ve heard of Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs — well, a Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs location is coming to Disney’s Boardwalk WITH some new food. Here’s where Blue Ribbon corn dogs is going That’s not all, though. Disney’s Boardwalk is also getting The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers, which will be both a table service restaurant that will also have an afternoon tea service, as well as a spot to pick up a delicious pastry to go. Um…yeah, we’re excited about this one, too! Construction on Cake Bake Shop Both of these new restaurants are also good news for anyone staying at a Skyliner hotel because they have easy access to the Boardwalk. That new DVC villa being built at Disney’s Polynesian Village is supposed to have new dining options, too, although Disney hasn’t confirmed any new restaurants coming to the Polynesian. But we’ll be keeping an eye out for more details! The 14 Best Restaurants in Disney World in 2024 So staying at a Disney World hotel is getting even better and we’re sure we’ll see even more announcements about updates and changes as 2024 progresses. We may go to Disney World over and over again, but there are just some things that we HAVE to do each time. Mickey and Pals at Cinderella Castle Seriously, did you even go to Disney World if you didn’t ride Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, or Big Thunder Mountain Railroad? Does it count as a trip to Disney World if you didn’t eat 3 Dole Whips, 2 Mickey Pretzels, and a giant Turkey Leg? But let’s be honest, we have all started documenting our age and growth through pictures at Disney World. Like babies on those month-by-month blankets, we have pictures in front of Cinderella Castle at varying ages. So did you really go to Disney World if you didn’t take these 14 pictures? (We need the PROOF!) There are just some things you HAVE to take pictures of in Disney World, or it didn’t happen. Please, tell us we’re not the only ones who have hundreds of these pictures on our phones!! Before we get into the fun of these picture spots, please know that we think these are all excellent pictures to have as memories for your family. And if you’re looking to plan your Disney vacation (whether it’s your first or your hundredth), we recommend checking out our friends at Small World Vacations! They can help you plan the perfect Disney trip. Ok, on to our list of photo spots! Cinderella Castle Probably the most popular (and we have to admit, basic) Disney World picture is right smack in the middle of Magic Kingdom. Cinderella Castle towers over everything and shines like a beacon of magic. It is the most iconic Disney symbol and if you didn’t get a picture with (or of) this majestic piece of architecture, there’s no way you went to Disney World. Cinderella Castle (for the billionth time) We have pictures from every angle imaginable under every lighting possible (and we’re NOT ashamed of it). Some love to see it in the daytime, while others prefer it glowing in the dark. Either way, we ALL have a picture of this beauty in our galleries. Shameless picture of Cinderella Castle at night Entrance into Disney World While Cinderella Castle may be the most popular and iconic picture spot, the first picture any of us have ever taken in Disney World is of the entrance sign. You clearly have not been to Disney World if you didn’t pass under (and take a picture of) the entrance sign (duh). Disney World entrance sign These pictures are also probably your blurriest pictures from your Disney World trip. You knew you were getting close, but that sign snuck up on you and you scrambled as fast as you could to get your phone, pull up your camera, and focus to get the whole thing into the picture. But you’re driving (or hopefully someone else is) and can’t stop so you get what you get and can’t go back. And the result…a little bit blurry but salvageable picture that we all have in our phones. Just a little blurry Main Street, U.S.A You’re home. You step through the turn styles and make your way under the train bridge onto Main Street, U.S.A. Obviously, you have to take a picture because it’s been like 3 days since you’ve been there. But seriously, Main Street, U.S.A. is another one of those iconic Disney World spots that exude beauty and magic. It didn’t happen if you don’t have this picture The only way everyone on our Instagram is going to know we were in Disney World is if we have a picture in front of the Emporium. Plus, as an added bonus, you’ll probably get your mandatory castle pic with it! It’s a two-for-one Disney World picture deal! (We’re always looking for a deal in Disney World.) Purple Wall If you’re looking for the most Instagrammable photo spot in Magic Kingdom (we all are, obviously), you’ll have to walk away from the giant castle and head towards Tomorrowland Terrace. The purple wall here has become another favorite spot to snap some photos (and even DisneyBound as). The famous Purple Wall It is a pretty cool concept and it has several different background options in one wall. You can get just a plain purple background or opt for the geometric purple pattern. The creativity with this random wall in Magic Kingdom is endless. Purple Wall Spaceship Earth As we all know (probably), EPCOT is ALWAYS (sometimes) the park to hop to! So after you’ve gotten all your Insta-worthy pictures in Magic Kingdom, it’s time to visit the big shiny ball. Spaceship Earth Contrary to what all our picture captions say, this ball is Spaceship Earth (not EPCOT) and we have to have a picture of it or we didn’t go to EPCOT. Yes, this icon is more than just a photo op. It is in fact a ride! While it’s not a requirement to ride Spaceship Earth, it must be required to take a picture of it (why else would we ALL have one?). Is this soon to be another required picture spot in EPCOT? Pandora So many people have varying opinions about Animal Kingdom, but there are some things we all agree on in the wild park. YOU MUST GET A PICTURE OF PANDORA. There, we said it. This land is just SO photogenic. It’s stunning. Look at the beauty! The out-of-this-world beauty that Disney has created here must be photographed. Looking high and low, you’ll find gorgeous picture opportunities. And we’ve been taking pictures of it since it opened in 2017. Seriously, it’s majestic. Tree of Life Another thing we all agree on, regardless if Animal Kingdom is your favorite or least favorite Disney World park, is that you have to have a picture of the Tree of Life. There are just some things you have to take pictures of or it didn’t happen and each park’s icon is one of those things. Admit it, you have this picture in your phone right now. The greens, browns, and animals are just amazing. It’s larger than life and yet, it is life. It captures everything we believe about nature and the circle of life. And we all take this picture immediately. And just like Cinderella Castle and Spaceship Earth, it might be even more beautiful at night. How do they possibly make it even better?! Tower of Terror Disney had to go and tear down the iconic, brilliant blue, sorcerer’s hat in Hollywood Studios several years ago, so now we’re left with the Tower of Terror as the icon of the park. But we’re not (too) mad about it because the Tower of Terror is SO photogenic! How can something so terrifying be so pretty? Nobody would believe us if we told them we’d been to Hollywood Studios if we didn’t show them a picture of the Tower of Terror. It’s sad, but true (probably). That’s why we always grab a photo as we wander down Sunset Boulevard. Bonus points if the picture is at night! This gives eerie vibes Millennium Falcon We run to the Millennium Falcon in less than 12 Parsecs so we can get pictures of it with no galactic creatures in the way! Don’t tell us the odds of not having at least one person in our picture. We will get the perfect Falcon picture. Well, maybe not… How epic is it that we can stand next to, fly, and take pictures with the Millennium Falcon?! It’s a dream come true for Star Wars fans. And a good Star Wars fan knows that it didn’t happen if they don’t have a picture. She’s a beaut. Picture with Mickey It can be REALLY challenging to get a picture with the main Mouse, himself. So we’re going to broaden this picture category to just any character in general. Even those of us who swear we don’t need to wait in line to meet a character, still get giddy when we have our picture taken with them. This adorable couple can be hard to get pictures with! Meeting Disney characters is like a rite of passage in Disney World. And, clearly, Disney’s PhotoPass photographers agree that it didn’t happen if you don’t have a picture. Who wouldn’t want a picture with Daisy?! Animals on Kilimanjaro Safari If the Safari guides told us there was an ant on the road, we would have our cameras clicking away so fast that we would be taking a million pictures of it. Any animal that is pointed out on the Safari needs its picture taken by us, amateur photographers. These giraffes needed to have this picture taken of them. We’re pretty sure that taking pictures of the Safari animals is just as crucial as them getting the right nutrients in their diet. That’s why they take us on the tour over and over, right? Disney has had us pay them to be the animal’s paparazzi. And we would pay to have this job every day of the year (actually, we do pay for every day of the year ). This is a rare sighting! She clearly needed some headshots. Mickey Pretzel Any Mickey-shaped food item NEEDS to be photographed. Mickey pretzels, Mickey beignets, Mickey ice cream bars, and anything else Mickey-shaped will be photographed. These might be the most Instagrammable food items in the world (or maybe we’re just biased). It’s just so cute! Not only should the Mickey-shaped foods be photographed, but literally all Disney foods. The colors, textures, and toppings that Disney adds to their food are astounding. The food is art and art needs to be displayed…on our Instagram, Facebook, and X/Twitter. Mickey ice cream in front of Spaceship Earth. Iconic. Picture in Minnie/Mickey Ears Not only is buying at least one pair of Minnie or Mickey ears a necessity, but so is getting a picture of you wearing them. A picture of the ears in front of the castle is a bonus point. Ears may be the cringiest or most exciting souvenir you can buy (depending on who you are), but either way, you know you have a picture of yourself in them at Disney World. It’s ok to admit it, we’re right there with ya. They’re just too cute to not take a picture in! 109473 Fireworks Pictures Just like on the 4th of July, we all take too many pictures (and videos) of the fireworks that nobody is going to care about. But it’s an urge we just can’t fight! The heart those pink fireworks just formed needs to be shown to the world. EVERYONE needs to see these fireworks. We will be the first to admit that we have a bazillion fireworks photos in our gallery that we will probably never look at again. But we knew that if we didn’t get the pictures, there would be no evidence that we had been to Disney World! (Side note: please be courteous to the people around you trying to enjoy the show!) Pics, or it didn’t happen. All joking aside, pictures are wonderful memories for you and your loved ones on a Disney World vacation. When we say we have tons of each of these pictures, we’re being 100% honest with you. It’s just so hard to go to Disney and not take them because everything around us is so magical and beautiful. This has been a chaotic year for television. ©Reuters The entertainment strikes involving both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA unions delayed the production of a lot of shows and movies. Meanwhile, streaming services began to remove shows from their libraries. On the network side of things, ABC-TV, which is owned by Disney, ultimately decided that eight TV shows be canceled. So, let’s take a look at why those shows were canceled. As we previously mentioned, ABC canceled a total of eight shows in 2023. Note that in many cases, Disney/ABC does not publicly comment on their reasoning for canceling a show. That said, here are the shows that got the axe this year. Alaska Daily Alaska Daily starred Oscar-winner Hillary Swank as a journalist seeking a new life when she goes to work for a newspaper in Anchorage, Alaska. She works with another journalist to report on missing and murdered indigenous women. The show was canceled after just one season. ©ABC According to Alaska Public Media, the show was very expensive to produce and did not get the ratings that ABC had hoped for. Big Sky Big Sky, based on a series of books by C.J. Box, is about two private detectives searching for two sisters who have been kidnapped in Montana. They soon learn other girls have gone missing in the area. The show ran for three seasons before it was canceled in 2023. ©ABC Why? According to Deadline, the show’s ratings slipped a LOT in its second and third seasons and became one of the lowest-rated scripted series on ABC. There were also rumors of “on-set tensions.” The Company You Keep In The Company You Keep, a con man named Charlie (who is in debt to a crime boss) has a “night of passion” with an undercover CIA officer, Emma, who, it turns out, is looking for that crime boss. The series starred Milo Ventimiglia and Catherine Haena Kim but was ultimately canceled in its first season. ©ABC Variety reported that the series failed to find its audience and averaged under 4 million viewers per episode in the Nielsen Live+7 ratings. As you can see, low ratings are pretty much the death knell for a TV show, especially a new one. The Final Straw The Final Straw was a game show hosted by Janelle James, and it was basically a huge game of Jenga. Teams of players would compete to win up to $250,000 by removing one object at a time from a giant tower. Okay, we’re not questioning the premise of the show…but, well, we can understand why it might not have caught on. ©ABC TVLine broke the news of the show’s cancelation, and although no reason was officially stated, the show seemed to suffer from poor reviews, which often spells doom for a TV show. Typically, poor reviews = poor ratings. The Goldbergs So it’s a miracle for any show to make it to 10 seasons, which is something The Goldbergs managed to accomplish. However, ABC decided that the 10th season would be its last. With this show, though, we can say it certainly had a good run. ©ABC The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that part of the reasoning behind its cancelation was that ABC didn’t own it, plus it was suffering from declining ratings and “pricey licensing fees for an aging series.” Needless to say, it seemed unlikely that this show would survive another season. Home Economics Home Economics was a sitcom following the lives of three siblings, played by Topher Grace, Caitlin McGee, and Jimmy Tatro. It was canceled by ABC after three seasons — this was another show that suffered from low ratings. ©ABC According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show had the smallest Nielsen-measured audience among all five ABC comedies that were airing at the time. The Rookie: Feds The Rookie: Feds was a spin-off of The Rookie starring Niecy Nash-Betts. The crime drama was one of several TV shows that were affected the most by the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The show was on hold during the strikes, but it ultimately was canceled. ©ABC The Hollywood Reporter reported that the strikes “wiped out the September start” of the 2023-24 broadcast season, so in re-thinking its strategy moving forward, ABC decided no second season of the show was needed. The Wonder Years The Wonder Years sought to recapture lightning in a bottle by rebooting the series of the same name from the late ’80s and early ’90s. ABC confirmed that the reboot would not return for a third season earlier this year. ©ABC Deadline reported that the show ranked as the lowest-rated and least-watched ABC series of the summer. Ouch. Station 19 According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC’s Station 19 will conclude with one final season in 2024. The series is a spinoff of the famous Grey’s Anatomy show, focusing on the lives of a group of firefighters. It lasted for seven seasons, which is pretty impressive in its own right. ©ABC The president of Disney Television Group commented on the show’s ending, saying, “For seven seasons, Station 19 has been a highlight of the ABC lineup thanks to Shonda [Rhimes] and Betsy [Beers’] incredible vision, beloved characters and compelling storytelling,” said Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group. “With Zoanne [Clack] and Peter [Paige] at the helm of the upcoming farewell season, we have so much to look forward to, most notably the celebration of the show’s milestone 100th episode.” So there you have it, a little insight into why these shows were canceled at ABC this year.
