Pop quiz! What happens when Disney World reaches Park Pass reservation capacity, Genie+ reaches a record-high price, and crowds flood the parks and resorts? Let us show you. Disney’s Hollywood Studios OK, first, a little background. On December 27th, Disney World was BUSY. Park Pass reservations completely sold out at all four parks, which essentially means the parks reached capacity. Additionally, it was $39 to use Genie+ at multiple parks or Magic Kingdom. That’s $39 per person for one day — a new record-high price based on Disney’s surge pricing system. So, what happens when this perfect storm of events happens in one day? Let’s take a look. Disney’s Hollywood Studios was BUSY on December 27th. In fact, Genie+ officially sold out shortly after noon. Yikes! When Genie+ sells out at any of the four parks, the multiple parks option is also marked unavailable. So, if you were planning to park hop on December 27th and didn’t buy the multiple parks option first thing in the morning, you may be stuck purchasing Genie+ separately for multiple parks. ©Disney Currently, Genie+ access at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom is still available. Genie+ is $39 at Magic Kingdom, $32 at EPCOT, and $29 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Genie+ sold out at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at a record-high price of $35. We all love character dining, right? Goofy at Ravello There are many great places to have a character meal in Disney World. Sure you can go to places like Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in EPCOT, Cinderella’s Royal Table in Magic Kingdom, Tusker House Restaurant in Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood & Vine Restaurant at Hollywood Studios, but there are also spots in the resorts you should check out! We’ve talked about the character dining at Ravello Italian Restaurant at the Four Seasons Resort Orlando, but we learned about another dining experience at the resort that had our jaws drop. Let’s talk about it! So, if you didn’t know, the Four Seasons Resort Orlando is a VERY expensive place, and with the price tag comes some of the most luxurious amenities and experiences. That makes sense, right? Well, did you know that there is an exclusive and private character dining experience that people are shelling out a whopping $7,500 for?? You read that right, so let’s talk about it. Four Seasons Resort Orlando Okay, picture this: Just you, your favorite Disney character, and no one else! That’s the kind of private character dining experience we’re talking about. I guess you could also think of it as having your own private Disney party that will have your friends just green with envy. ©Disney So, after you break out almost 8,000 greenbacks, the Four Seasons resort will open up one of their private event spaces and turn it into a magical hideaway for you and your Disney character. That means you get to enjoy the experience in a completely laid-back atmosphere, which is absolutely the opposite of what you’ll find in the parks. Also, putting the character interaction aside, the Four Seasons is known for its top-notch service and gourmet delights, so you can rest assured that you’ll be treated to a dining experience that will make you feel like Disney royalty. Capa at the Four Seasons Orlando We also have to imagine that the availability for these private character dining slots is rare — think, golden ticket rare, so if you’re interested, so might want to contact them ASAP to book. Whether or not $7,500 is a good deal, we’ll leave that up to you. We just think about how amazing it would be to make memories like that. It’s almost 2024! Are you ready?! Fantasy in the Sky for New Year’s Eve 2022 With the new year, you can expect a lot of new experiences. When thinking about your next Disney World trip in 2024, we wanted to talk about something that might have been missed but definitely needs to be a part of the budget planning. We’re talking about what the Genie+ prices could look like in 2024. Looking back at the year, we can see that Genie+ prices track right along with the busiest days of the year, with days right around Christmas being the PRICIEST days of all so far. Genie+ You can see that if you could purchase the Multiple Parks or Magic Kingdom experiences for $39, EPCOT for $32, Hollywood Studios for $35, and Animal Kingdom for $29. Genie+ prices hit a record high on Dec. 23 and have stayed there. These record-high prices for this service started on Dec. 23rd, and it’s been a HUGE jump year-over-year, as well. Take a look at what Genie+ cost during Christmas in 2022: ©Disney That’s right — $29. In one year, the price went up by $10 — that’s an increase of 26%! Just for comparison, for Thanksgiving, the second most expensive time of the year, Genie+ prices were $29 in 2022 and then jumped to $35 in 2023, so an increase of $6 or 17%. Prices during Thanksgiving week ©Disney Now, we’re just speculating here, but if the Disney Genie+ prices increased by another 26% in 2024, they would be around $53 for Christmas week next year. That price would bring the cost for a family of four to $212 for one day of the Genie+ service. If we went with the lower rate of increase — 17% year over year on Thanksgiving — that would bring the Christmas week Genie+ price to around $47. Genie+ Also, just in case you need a quick refresher, the main thing Genie+ does for you is enable you to reserve Lightning Lanes — a set “return time” to ride an attraction without waiting in the standby line. If you haven’t used it before, you’ll want to grab our cheat sheet right here! Disney has said that changes to the Genie+ service are coming in 2024. Beyond the price, one of the biggest complaints about Genie+ has been the amount of time you have to spend on your phone scheduling Lightning Lanes during your day in the park. This is very different than FastPass+, which allowed you to book some of your rides before your vacation. Lightning Lane at Expedition Everest in May 2023, Disney announced that it plans to make changes to the service in 2024. “We have heard from guests that they would like ways to plan with Disney Genie+ service and individual Lightning Lane selections before the day of their park visit, and we want you to know we are working on ways guests may do this for visits in 2024,” Disney said in a blog post. It’s important to note, though, that Disney still hasn’t revealed just yet when they’re planning to implement this change. In fact, the study compared the 100 biggest American cities based on 26 different indicators such as the legality of fireworks, nightlife options, weather, and food affordability. Hilton Orlando Disney Springs ©Disney Orlando is one of the most frequently visited cities for New Year’s Eve and offers PLENTY. From Disney World and other theme parks to a bustling nightlife, Orlando has something for everyone. In fact, WalletHub’s data indicates that Orlando “ranks first when it comes to nightlife options and affordable restaurants rated 4.5+ stars,” so you’ll be hard-pressed to find better options elsewhere. Orlando also has some of the longest fireworks displays in the U.S., in addition to legal consumer fireworks so you’re guaranteed to be in for a good show. Mix the entertainment options with the number of gourmet specialty food stores found everywhere and you can see why Orlando ranks first in the country! We have passed Christmas and are nearing ever closer to 2024! Magic Kingdom This week is when we really start to see the crowds hit Disney World. Everyone celebrating the holidays is still visiting the parks, and now, those who want to be there to ring in the New Year are starting to join. We noticed a few not-so-subtle clues that indicate the parks are going to be busy today (and most likely the rest of the week)! Before we even stepped foot into the parks, our first indication that today, December 27th, was going to be busy was that every single park was out of park reservations. Yep, not a single one of the four parks had any reservations available. So you know it’s going to be a busy day everywhere in Disney World! ©Disney Next, we also saw that Genie+ is STILL at its record-high price! Since there’s such a high demand on busy park days, Disney has continued to keep these very high prices going. ©Disney The Multiple Parks and Magic Kingdom are still at $39, EPCOT is at $32, Hollywood Studios is at $35, and Animal Kingdom is going for $29. We aren’t surprised to see these high prices on such a busy day in the parks. The rest of the week isn’t sold out of park passes entirely, yet, but we’re still pretty sure it’s going to continue being crowded in the parks. It’s been a rough year for Disney Springs stores! Disney Springs We said goodbye to Sosa Family Cigars, the Ugg Store, Melissa Clube, and more, and it looks like another retail location will be shuttering for good in the near future, too. Hopefully, this just means something new and exciting is on the way — but here’s everything you need to know about this closure. The Art of Shaving store at Disney Springs is permanently closing on January 2nd, 2024, we confirmed with an employee. The store was located in The Landing, near STK and Sanuk, for almost ten years. Art of Shaving Disney Springs Disney has not made any sort of announcements as to why the store is closing or what might be taking its place, but we are looking forward to something new and exciting. The Art of Shaving at Disney Springs Disney Springs has seen quite a few changes over the past year, with multiple store closures and relocations happening in 2023. Three Disney World hotels allow you to walk to Magic Kingdom. At any other, you’ll need to take Disney transportation, a rideshare, or your own car. Magic Kingdom These hotels are Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. If walking to the park is super important to you, here’s the CHEAPEST hotel room you can stay in to be close to Magic Kingdom. The cheapest hotel of the three will often be Disney’s Contemporary Resort, which is conveniently also the closest to Magic Kingdom (about a 15 minute walk). Contemporary Resort There are many different room types here, but if you’re looking at staying in the cheapest you can, you’ll want to go for a room in the Garden Wing. Specifically, one with a partially obstructed Resort View or a Water View. When we looked at a made-up stay between May 23rd and May 29th, 2024, these rooms ran at $619.33 and $670.50 respectively per night. Views from Contemporary Resort So what’s in these rooms? Well you’ll have a view of either the resort or the water, and each one can sleep up to 5 adults on two queen beds and one day bed. Both types of rooms also include a beverage cooler, a coffee/tea station, and a patio or balcony. Queen beds Are these rooms still expensive? Yes, absolutely, but they are the cheapest option available when you’re searching for an on-property hotel where you can walk to Magic Kingdom. Believe it or not, the holiday season is still in full swing at Disney World. Still merry over here! Yep, glimpses of Christmas are still scattered throughout the park, and many will remain until after the start of the new year. One of those magical little glimpses is a rare character that you can meet at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Until December 31st, Duffy will be meeting visitors at It’s a Wonderful Shop from 10AM to 7PM! He’s all dressed up in his holiday best, too! He met with folks during the exclusive Jollywood Nights events, but now, he’s there all day. Meet Duffy in his holiday best! If you’re hoping to meet Duffy, you’ll just walk up to the Cast Members outside of It’s a Wonderful Shop to join the queue. It’s similar to a virtual queue It’s sort of like a dining reservation in the sense that you’ll get updates via text message on when you can return. Our text After a bit of a wait, we were finally able to head inside to meet adorable Duffy! His outfit is everything. Hi, Duffy! If you’re unfamiliar with Duffy, he’s a stuffed bear that Minnie made for Mickey to tag along on all his adventures. He originally debuted at Disney World in 2002 at the Once Upon a Toy Store. He eventually made it over to Disneyland, but now can most commonly be found at Tokyo Disneyland, Hong Kong Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, Shanghai Disneyland, and occasionally on Disney Cruise Line. So cute He’s iconic, and he’s RARE, so act fast and meet him while you can! If you are headed to or from Florida during this holiday week, you’re going to need to add a few dollars to your gas budget. Gas prices have jumped in Florida. In mid-December, Floridians were enjoying the lowest gas prices in more than two years, with an average price of $2.92. But today, AAA reports that the average price for a gallon of gas in Florida is $3.12, the same as the average price for the nation as a whole. The average price in Orange County, where Orlando is located, is $3.14. The average price for a gallon of gas is $3.12 in Florida. Gas prices typically rise around the holidays, as more people hit the road and demand for gas rises. AAA had projected that more than 115 million people would travel at least 50 miles from home during this week. New Happy Meal toys were released today!! McDonald’s You know we’ve become big fans of McDonald’s Happy Meals (yes, we realize we are grown adults, but we are kids at heart!). We just can’t help ourselves when they come out with the coolest toys in the fun, red boxes. When they brought us Disney100 toys, we went on a spree to try to collect all 60 of them. And now, for the first time ever, they have come out with new Squishmallow Happy Meal toys! Yes, we RAN to McDonald’s today to make sure we got one. The cuddly, stuffed toys that we have all come to love are now coming in your Happy Meal box! We headed over to the McDonald’s in Disney World to grab some nuggies and a new, tiny Squishmallow! What’s in the box?? You can get several options of Squishmallow toys in your Happy Meal. You can get Grimace, Fifi, Cam, and other characters as tiny, cuddly toys. Any one of the toys will come in your meal of chicken nuggets or a cheeseburger. Which one do you think we got? We grabbed that bag and tried to guess who we got. Any ideas?? Who is it? Whew! We’re almost there, you guys! 2024 will be an exciting time! By “almost there,” we mean that we have almost made it through the busy holiday season at Disney World. One more major holiday is approaching, and yes, it’ll definitely bring the crowds. That’s right, we’re talking about New Year’s Eve! New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day at Disney World are an incredibly exciting yet busy time. After all, who wouldn’t want to ring in 2024 at the Most Magical Place on Earth? We’re already expecting the crowds to be PACKING the parks, as a glimpse at the park reservation availability can give us a few hints as to what we can expect. Magic Kingdom For Sunday, December 31st, there are NO MORE park reservations available for any park except for Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Whew! ©Disney So, unless you were on your A-game and already snagged your park pass for New Year’s Eve, you won’t be visiting any park other than Animal Kingdom. Animal Kingdom Of course, you can still try to park hop. We say “try” because on big holidays like these, it isn’t uncommon for a park to reach capacity. We typically recommend for folks to stay in the same park all day long, especially when park reservations have already been snatched up. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Hey, Animal Kingdom isn’t a horrible place to spend New Year’s Eve, but with the park closing earlier, you won’t find as many celebratory activities there. We recommend heading over to one of the Monorail resorts to try to catch a glimpse of the Magic Kingdom fireworks once Animal Kingdom closes. Fireworks views on the balcony at California Grill The good news? All parks have reservation availability for January 1st! So, if Animal Kingdom isn’t your jam, you can spend the very first day of 2024 in your favorite park. There are a lot of restaurants in Magic Kingdom, and to state it plainly, some of them just aren’t good. Cosmic Ray’s We have our favorite restaurants that we’ll recommend to you time and time again, and one restaurant has started to redeem itself after a long history of disappointment, but easily one of the worst restaurants you can go to is Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. However, there are a few redeeming factors about this spot, so here’s us putting up our best defense for Cosmic Ray’s. Everyone Can Find Something They’ll Eat Cosmic Ray’s may be known for the absolute most basic theme park food you can find on Magic Kingdom property (and if we’re being honest, it really isn’t that great), BUT the size of the menu means that everyone in your party can find something they’ll enjoy. Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe Spread And that goes for the pickiest eaters as well. Got someone who will only eat chicken fingers? Cosmic Ray’s has you covered. But what if they only eat mac & cheese? Cosmic Ray’s can help you, too. Chicken Strips While the menu has tons of food that you can eat safely, we remind you that this is NOT the spot to go to if you want to see what Disney World food can really be like. This is the “we-panicked-and-didn’t-know-where-else-to-eat” restaurant, and you know what, sometimes that’s okay. TONS of Seating Inside Cosmic Ray’s is one of the largest quick service (aka fast food) restaurants in Magic Kingdom, and it has tons of seating to accommodate its visitors. Cosmic Ray’s Seating While some of this seating is outside, TONS of it is inside where you can enjoy the air conditioning on those hot Disney days. More Cosmic Ray’s Seating Usually, you can find a seat here for you and your family, but if you’re in the parks at peak mealtime and during a super busy time of year, it might be a little more difficult or require some waiting. Sonny Eclipse Yeah that’s it, end of sentence. Sonny Eclipse is the super cool alien animatronic from outer space that plays in Cosmic Ray’s, and you can hear his music act while you eat inside. You have to say hey to Sonny Eclipse! He plays the Astro-Organ, and he’ll also joke around in between songs with some wonderful puns that may have you laughing or playfully rolling your eyes. Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Ray’s He’s a great source of entertainment and Disney history, and who doesn’t want to have some epic intergalactic jazz music while they eat? There are a lot of exciting things happening in Disney World in 2024, but one thing we are especially looking forward to is the new restaurant coming to Disney’s BoardWalk. ©Disney The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers is scheduled to open in early 2024, when it will serve items for brunch, lunch, and dinner featuring both sweet and savory menus, as well as an afternoon tea service. While the restaurant was originally supposed to open in 2023, the project was delayed — but the dining location is currently making one big step toward opening. Cake Bake Shop is actively looking for new chefs! 2024 is bringing some serious changes to Disney World. 2024 will be an exciting time! The best part? 2024 is only a few days away! While most of these changes won’t actually go into effect until January 9th, we’re excited nonetheless. One of the biggest changes taking place is the removal of park pass reservation requirements for most ticketed visitors. After the 9th, you’ll no longer need a park pass reservation to enter a park — with the exception of Magic Kingdom on Saturdays and Sundays. With that update comes another HUGE update hidden inside — and a lot of folks might not know about this yet. Starting January 9th, when park pass reservation requirements are officially removed, you’ll have MUCH more freedom when it comes to snagging virtual queues for TRON: Lightcycle/Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, as well as the parks you visit in general. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Previously, you had ONE SHOT when trying to book a virtual queue in the mornings. You could only book a virtual queue if you had a park reservation at 7AM or were in that park at 1PM. If you missed a virtual queue, you were out of luck. Then, you’d still have to go to the same park and be sad while other folks flocked over for their virtual queue. TRON Lightcycle / Run Starting January 9th, however, you’ll have a second opportunity to grab a virtual queue in the mornings, since you’re able to book a virtual queue in any park where you have valid admission. For example, if you were attempting to grab a virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT, but they sold out before you could, you’ll be able to attempt grabbing a virtual queue for TRON: Lightcycle/Run in Magic Kingdom at 7:01. TRON Lightcycle / Run With the removal of park pass reservation requirements, you’ll be able to try to snag a VQ from either park — since there will no longer be restrictions on where you can go on most days. Now, you can just swap which day you visit each park depending on what ride you were able to get a virtual queue for. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind An important thing to note is that you can still only grab one virtual queue per day, per ride, though. You can’t book one for TRON and then book another for Guardians a minute later. You’ll have to book a virtual queue for one and an individual Lightning Lane for another if you’re hoping to ride both in one day, OR you can park hop before 1PM to the other park to try to snag that second virtual queue. TRON Lighting Lane Another thing to note is that Cast Members and Annual Passholders who still need valid park reservations will still need to have a reservation for the park they’re hoping to ride in. You’ll find some incredible dining experiences across Disney World. EPCOT From Michelin-recognized fine dining to quick-service locations with a ton of flavor, there is something for all kinds of preferences throughout the parks. EPCOT, specifically, has a wide range of restaurants around the World Showcase, but one in particular is a winner for those looking for elevated Japanese cuisine. Takumi-Tei, the most expensive restaurant in EPCOT, serves a prix-fixe omakase-style menu, but did you know the dining location offers a special add-on experience to tailor your meal?
