Love it or hate it, Genie+ seems to be here to stay — at least for now. Lightning Lane at Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway We’ve seen the skip-the-line service go through quite a few updates, and it even reached its highest price ever in Disney World over Christmas week. But, over in Disneyland, it’s actually good news to report on Genie+ for once — another ride is being added to the service! This will be the case “while nearby attractions are refurbished.” Multiple Disneyland attractions will be undergoing refurbishment in 2024, so this will help spread out the people throughout the park. The SECRET Lounge HIDING in a Disney World Hotel
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Food/Restaurants
If you know anything about us here at DFB, you know just how much we love finding a good place to escape from it all. Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom Whether it’s in the parks, hotels, or even Disney Springs, finding a place to just sit and relax can totally change the course of your trip. There are plenty of places where you might find a brief respite — but we think this secret Disney World hotel lounge just might be our favorite! Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is arguably the best hotel on all of Disney World property — it’s hard to beat incredible restaurants, stunning architecture, and of course, the animals! But, did you know it’s also home to a hidden lounge that’s got a killer view? Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge It’s true! Inside the Animal Kingdom Lodge Jambo House lobby, you’ll find a small seating area tucked away, back and to the left. It’s located just behind the Disney Vacation Club check-in desk — making it easy to mistake for a DVC-only area. But, it’s not! Anyone is welcome to come take a break over here and enjoy the space — not to mention the view. What’s this? Just like the rest of Animal Kingdom Lodge, there’s plenty to look at here. Lots of photos, artifacts, artwork, and interesting architecture are on display here. And, while all of that is incredibly interesting and culturally rich, we think the outside view is pretty spectacular as well! It’s a secret lounge! There’s plenty of seating inside — but check out that terrace! It’s not a terribly large space, but there is a good amount of space to stand and take in all the views. Terrace with a view! Here’s the scoop: There will occasionally be times on Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays when this lounge is full of people waiting to be picked up to set sail with Disney Cruise Line — but those are typically the only times this area is busy. If you walk up and find it full, just wait a few minutes and it’s likely everyone will leave to head out on their cruise. Check out this space! Not only that, but this lounge actually gives you access to an area of the Savanna you otherwise wouldn’t really be able to see unless you had a room with a view of this area. It’s available to anyone visiting the resort, but because of its location people often walk right by and do not realize it even exists. And, let’s be real — check out that view! Look at those views! There were so many animals in this area when we walked by — we counted three giraffes and at least two antelope! That’s pretty impressive for just stopping by. Grab a snack from the Mara or even a drink from Victoria Falls Lounge and head down here for some peace and quiet. So many animals. It would even make a cozy place to work if you needed to do a little business or schoolwork. And, can you imagine this place in the rain?! Forget about it. Cozy! We’re always on the hunt for updates like this, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest news and hidden tips from Disney World and more! Disney transportation is some of the best and most efficient we’ve seen. Disney Skyliner Where else can you see thousands of people dispatched back to their hotels in a matter of hours (generally under 3)? They’ve got boats, monorails, buses, and the Disney Skyliner to get you to where you need to go. But there are a few mistakes that we’ve noticed people making over and over again. This seems to happen pretty frequently with the Skyliner, so we’re here to clear the air (pun intended). The Skyliner is a very useful form of transportation in Disney World. It can take you between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, while also bringing you right back to your hotel if you’re staying at one along the route. Disney World Skyliner However, there is one downside to the Skyliner. Since it is outside and high in the air on metal, lightning-attracting rods, it will shut down if there is a potential thunderstorm. And we all know Florida, there is always a thunderstorm passing through. Skyliner Station at Art of Animation You might notice, though, that while the signs say it has shut down due to weather, it is still moving. This may entice you to believe the sign is wrong and walk up to the station still expecting to get on. But that is not the case. If the sign says it’s closed for weather, it is closed for weather, even if it still moving. Closed Skyliner You may still see it moving, even when the sign says it’s closed because they need to get all the current riders off of it. They don’t want people to end up stuck on the gondola during a storm, so they will keep it moving to ensure everyone is safely off before the storm (and scary lightning) gets there. Skyliner Your best bet is, that if you know there is a potential for a storm, to find another form of transportation. And trust the sign — if it says it’s closed, it’s closed. Skyliner Station at Disney Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort Alternate forms of transportation from EPCOT and Hollywood Studios include boats, buses, and the monorail (at EPCOT). Be sure to ask a Cast Member which would be the most efficient for where you’re trying to go — they’ll have no problem helping you out! We hope this tip helps you have a more efficient trip to the parks. In the meantime, keep following DFB for more Disney news! Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! It’s SO hard to get into TV series these days because we never know when they might be canceled. ©Disney That’s particularly true with Disney shows, especially since we’ve seen MANY shows get canceled this year, including The Wonder Years, National Treasure, and more. Well, it’s time to add ANOTHER show to the list because Disney just canceled a Disney Channel series. According to Deadline, Disney Channel’s Bunk’d will end with its seventh season. The series is one of Disney Channel’s longest-running live-action series, but it’s coming to an end with its upcoming seventh season. Bunk’d was a spinoff of the popular series Jessie, which saw a brother and sister team leave their New York penthouse for a summer camp in Maine. ©Disney Work on the seventh season was suspended earlier in 2023 due to the WGA strike, with 12 episodes of the 20-episode season already filmed. Disney Channel has ordered a total of 22 episodes for the final season, though, meaning those episodes are currently being filmed. ©Disney Season 7 premiered on July 23rd, 2023, with part 1 (which featured 12 episodes) completing its run on December 1st. The final 10 episodes will premiere in 2024, although Disney has not yet set a specific date. “With a fantastic cast of characters and hilarious and heartful storylines, it’s no wonder Bunk’d has been one of Disney Channel’s longest running and successful live action series,” Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television said in a statement. “We’d like to thank our talented cast, creative team and crew for bringing tremendous joy and laughter to kids for seven incredible seasons.” ©Disney Bunk’d generally did very well for Disney Channel. Part 1 of Season 7 was one of the top live-action series watched by kids aged 6 to 11 — and that includes both streaming and TV platforms. It does seem as if it will get an actual send-off finale, though, so at least fans will get closure before the series is gone for good. We’ll keep an eye out for more TV cancellations, so stay tuned to DFB for more. It might be surprising, but Florida does get pretty chilly in the wintertime! Blizzard Beach Cooler temperatures and high humidity make it feel even colder than it is, in the sunshine state. And sometimes you have to watch out for closures when it gets too cold. Even if you’re from a colder location, you won’t want to be in these Disney World places when the temperatures inch their way down towards freezing. This winter, we’ve seen several cooler days. 60 degrees and below may not sound like it’s freezing cold, but in Florida, those kinds of temperatures will cause a few closures. Blizzard Beach may sound perfect for Olaf in the winter, but we prefer warmer weather. Do you wanna build a snowman? Surprise! Blizzard Beach is closed again today, December 29th, for cold weather. Disney and other theme parks in the area have closed their water parks several times this winter, and it’s only December! For your safety, Disney wants to keep you out of the water and safe from hypothermia. Even Olaf prefers summer temps in the water! It’s important to keep this in mind if you plan to travel to Disney World in the winter. Even though the water is heated, sometimes, it can get too cold to have guests in the water parks in their swimming suits. Lots of snow! Any time you’re in Disney World between November and February, we suggest checking the Disney World app for potential closures of the water parks. They do occur (some years, more frequently than others) and it can be hard to predict when. So stay up to date by checking the park times in the app! ©Disney We hope this helps you on your visit to the Disney World water parks! It may seem odd, but even Florida gets too cold for swimwear in the winter. Keep following DFB for more Disney news! 9 Reasons You Still Need to Pick Up a Disney World Park Map! Who doesn’t like to break the rules every once in a while? Magic Kingdom Life can be inundated with rules — for practically every aspect of life we have to follow the rules. Disney World is no exception, having several rules of its own. From unspoken rules to ones that are clearly laid out, the rigidity of the Disney law can be ever-present on your Disney World vacation. HOWEVER, Disney World also allows the opportunity to break rules that you may have in your everyday lives! The Most Magical Place on Earth is a place you can go to get away from life’s worries and, of course, its rules! Here are seven rules that you can break only at Disney World! Eating Kids Meals The nuggets were GOOD at Restaurantosaurus Don’t have much of an appetite? Don’t be ashamed to order a kid’s meal! While this might be taboo to some in the real world, adults can order kids’ meals for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Children-friendly food such as chicken nuggets and mac ‘n’ cheese are found at every establishment and are allowed to be ordered by adults. These are super easy to purchase at quick-service locations but be advised that some table-service locations could bring you larger portions at an adult price. Throwing Diet To The Wind Time for the main course at Homecomin’! You’re on vacation, so feel free to treat yourself! From the tasty comfort food of Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ to the delicious cookies at Gideon’s Bakehouse, Disney World has no shortage of delicious options. Grab as many dining reservations as your heart desires and indulge yourself in some top-notch cuisine — we won’t tell your dietitian, we promise! Forgoing Personal Space Hollywood Studios Crowds When the pandemic started, social distancing became the social norm, even at the Disney Parks. However, if you’ve been recently, you’ll notice that the whole social distancing thing isn’t really in effect anymore. In fact, the crowds have gotten to chaotic levels. From long queues with little to no personal space to shoulder-to-shoulder traffic when walking from A to B, there aren’t many places more packed than Disney World. While honoring personal space is a definite unspoken (and sometimes spoken) rule in the real world, it’s a totally different experience at the Walt Disney World resort. Suspension of Disbelief Meeting Mickey! One of the best things about going to Disney World as an adult or parent is the ability to unlock that childhood wonder all over again. Part of that is meeting some of your favorite characters. The suspension of disbelief is REAL. That’s the real Mickey Mouse/character and magic is all around. Gone are the problems of the real world when you find yourself at Disney World, and that’s ok! Breaking Fashion Rules “Eyes” Ears You wouldn’t wear Minnie ears out and about (normally) in your daily life, but at Disney World that’s totally appropriate! From outlandish headwear to matching t-shirts, Disney World gives guests the opportunity to mostly dress how they want without judgment. You can even dress up in costumes on non-Halloween days in some instances! Without having to worry about the fashion police, Disney World is the perfect place to let your Disney fandom shine in your clothing sans judgment. Eating at a Restaurant Owned by a Mouse Chef Mickey’s It’s typically not apropos to eat at a restaurant owned by a rodent, but at Disney, it’s very encouraged! Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort can be a hard reservation to come by, and for good reason. This restaurant serves all-you-care-to-enjoy breakfast and dinner while allowing guests to meet Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto. With constantly improving American cuisine, close proximity to Magic Kingdom, and an unforgettable character dining experience, Chef Mickey’s is a standout, certainly when it comes to restaurants owned by mice. (And let’s not forget about PizzeRizzo, run by the wise-cracking rat pal of The Muppets.) Tolerating the Worst Unpleasantries Rainy day at Magic Kingdom Let’s face it — you paid a ton of money to get you and your family to Disney World. Now is not the time to be ultra picky, so you tolerate certain unpleasantries for the sake of riding elusive attractions and getting to see incredibly shows and experiences. It’s fair to say you’ll put up with more at Disney World than you would perhaps at home. That could include making treks in stormy weather (which happens a lot in Central Florida), pushing through tired legs and tantrums, dealing with soaked clothes, accepting blisters, being patient with large crowds, or even dropping more money than budgeted for for meals and gifts. We do A LOT to make our Disney World vacations amazing and with that obviously comes sacrifice. The best thing you can do is to be prepared for anything and everything before you go. Check out our link below to see 50 secrets that could help you on your next Disney World vacation! 50 Secret Things You NEED To Know About Disney World There you have it! Movies are a big part of the Disney business. Cinderella Castle Of course, we all love the parks and experiences, but Disney movies were the company’s foundation, and they continue to be one of the things they do best. 2023 saw several great movies and we anticipate a few more great hits in 2024. But one media analyst doesn’t have high hopes for the coming year. 2023 saw box office hits reaching $1 billion and beyond, such as Barbie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Oppenheimer came extremely close to hitting $1 billion with around $950 million. It was a good year for movies, indeed. ©WB Unfortunately, one analyst has much grimmer expectations for 2024. An anonymous analyst has predicted that not one movie will hit $1 billion in theaters. According to them, only one stands a chance, Despicable Me 4, but with the opportunity to make a prediction anonymously, they’re making the bold claim that not even that one will. ©Illumination This comes as a bit of a shock to us as Disney has some pretty big-named movies scheduled to release in 2024. The lineup for 2024 includes Inside Out 2, Mufasa: The Lion King, The Amateur (20th Century Studios), Deadpool 3 (Marvel), The First Omen (20th Century Studios), and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (20th Century Studios). ©Disney So many of these movies sound great and we’re excited to watch them! (If you’ve seen the trailer for Inside Out 2, you know what we mean!) But according to this analyst, none of them are going to be box office bangers. We’ll just have to wait to find out. They’ll be coming out all through 2024, from January until December. So be sure to head to theaters to catch them on the big screen. Until then, keep following DFB for more Disney news! Did anyone ever watch the original Charlotte’s Web movie as a kid? Like, the cartoon version? One of the best parts about Disney World is the FOOD! Well, there’s a scene that comes to mind every time we visit Disney World. It’s the scene where Templeton the rat is wandering around the county fair and singing, “The fair is a veritable smorgasbord!” Well, Disney World is a veritable smorgasbord. Yep, there are delicious and tempting eats everywhere you turn at the Most Magical Place on Earth. Except… they’re often pretty ‘spensive. It’s easy to fog eat your way through the parks, and then you’ve blown a large chunk of your vacation budget. Not on our watch! Noooo way. We’re here to help you snack the financially savvy way. Let’s talk about it! There ARE budget-friendly eats hiding around the parks, you just have to know were to look. Here are the CHEAPEST (less than $5) snacks that you can grab in each park. Now, notice how we said SNACKS. These are great options to tie you over until the next meal time, but probably won’t fill you up. If you’re looking for the cheapest meals in each park, click here! Without further ado, let’s start off strong with Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom At Magic Kingdom, we recommend heading to Main Street Confectionery! It’s literally the first thing you’ll see as you begin to head down Main Street, U.S.A. Mickey Sugar Cookie Here, you’ll find a Mickey Sugar Cookie for only $4.99. It’s a pretty hefty cookie, and it’ll definitely tie you over (and kick your sweet tooth in the process), but be warned: it’s a bit dry. Overall, though, it’s tasty! EPCOT Over at EPCOT, there are so many great options for snacks less than $5. But there are a few that reign supreme when it comes to bang for your buck. Two of these can be found at Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie in the France Pavilion. Can man live on bread alone? We think so. Here, you can find a full baguette for $3.95 and a croissant for $3.25. They’re delicious, flaky, and soft on the inside — just how good bread should be. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a lovely quick service location by the name of Flame Tree Barbecue. Here, there are all sorts of delicious eats. But today, we’re only focused on the cheapest, while still keeping it tasty. Onion Rings At flame tree, you can get a side of delicious, crispy onion rings (Or fries, but let’s face it. Onion rings are the better bang for your buck.) for only $4.99. Disney’s Hollywood Studios At Hollywood Studios, some of the cheapest eats in the park can be found at Woody’s Lunch Box in Toy Story Land. Potato Barrels One of our favorite dishes here is the Potato Barrels for $4.99. They’re basically tater tots, and they’re delicious. You can also get them loaded — what Disney likes to call Totchos — but that’ll set you back a few extra dollars and is more of a meal. Whew! Now, doesn’t that feel great? You found some GREAT snacks while saving some money along the way. You’ve planned it all — right down to check in, and now it’s finally time to walk through the doors of your Disney hotel and start your vacation. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort room But even with all your planning things can go wrong that are simply out of your control, and we’re here to walk you through one of those exact scenarios! Imagine this: You’ve just arrived at your Disney World hotel for vacation and went to check in but have stopped in your tracks. Why? Well, you’ve just noticed or been told by the front desk that your hotel room isn’t ready just yet. This may feel like you are stuck in your own personal version of The Twilight Zone when this happens, but it’s a pretty common occurrence. All-Star Movies Front Desk The important thing to remember here is you’ve got options! You may not have ever stopped to consider just how much you can do, but allow us to help you out just a bit on what’s available to you right in that moment! Drop your bags off at Bell Services First things first, you’ve probably got a lot of stuff with you, so you’ll need somewhere to store it in the meantime. Your next move needs to be visiting bell services by the front desk of your hotel. Grocery Delivery Bell services will be able to hold your belongings for you since you’re checking into the Disney World hotel and will give you a ticket to reclaim your things once your room is ready. This will help you become fun and fancy-free (with less luggage to tote around) and keep them stored safely while you’re out! Hit the parks This might seem like a no-brainer but you’re at DISNEY WORLD! The urge to hit the Disney parks is real! Monorail After you’ve stashed your bags at the hotel, fighting the overwhelming compulsion to get right over the parks seems futile and quickly becomes a matter of how soon you get over there. We don’t blame you — this was a popular opinion we all shared, too! So if you’ve already got admission to the park (and made your park pass reservation) you’re good to head over anytime you like! Go eat Ok, this could be very dependent on WHEN you’re arriving but some of us have chosen to eat as soon as we get our stuff stored and honestly, that’s a great choice, too! Capt. Cook’s We rave about the food around the Disney hotels constantly, and if you’re saving your park tickets for another day during your vacation, this could be a great opportunity to explore the food at the hotel you’ve chosen to call home. Whether you’re hopping over to a dining reservation, picking up a quick service meal at the food court, or just grabbing a snack, we can’t say we blame you — after all, food IS a theme park! Resort hop Just like going to eat somewhere else, this could be a prime opportunity to check out a few of the other Disney hotels you’ve admired! Disney bus Suppose you’ve always wanted to eat at a certain hotel or check out some of the different theming, decor, or seasonal offerings … the world is your oyster! Depending on which hotel you want to visit, Disney transportation might require a bit of maneuvering. For example, if you are staying at All-Star Sports and you want to visit the Polynesian Village, your best bet is probably to take a bus to Magic Kingdom, even though you aren’t entering the park, and then hop on the resort monorail to the Polynesian Village stop. There are some resorts you can walk between, or take the monorail or Skyliner to — it all depends on where you’re staying and where you want to go! If you have questions, a Disney Cast Member can help you plan your route. You don’t have to be staying at THAT Disney hotel to enjoy at least some of what they have to offer so take advantage of this chance if you’ve got the time! Go shop Ok, you’ve lightened your load of luggage and now you’re feeling a bit empty-handed; why not try out some retail therapy? View from one of the porch tables of Summer House on the Lake Taking in the sights, sounds, and atmosphere of Disney Springs is another popular choice. They’ve also got plenty of dining options to help break up your time shopping. In addition to shopping at Disney Springs, you’ll also have a chance to see a Cirque du Soleil show, go bowling, see a movie at the theater, take a ride in a hot air balloon, and hop in a car that glides in the water, but that’s a whole story of its own. Is a Disney Springs Amphicar Ride Worth the Money? Click Here! Enjoy the amenities You’ve just made the long trek into your hotel, don’t you think you deserve some time to unwind? Fuentes del Morro pool There are so many ways to do this at your own hotel without ever having to leave (if you don’t want to!). This could serve as a great chance to book that appointment at the spa, get in a few games at the hotel’s onsite arcade, or take a quick dip in the pool (we hope you saved back your swimsuit and change of clothes!). Wrap up work remotely Alright work-a-holics, this option is for you! If you’re really not able to disconnect, or just need to wrap up a few things before you can really start relaxing on vacation, there’s a perfect spot to do this and you DON’T have to be in the comforts of your own hotel room! Solarium Lounge Seating Many of the Disney World hotels have lounge areas where you can work peacefully at your leisure until your working day is done (or your room becomes available if you prefer!). It’s also worth noting that most of these lounges are just steps away from the nearest bar or quick service location, giving you all you need for a quick bite or cup of coffee to keep you going! Golf Whether you’re ready to swing with the big folks or just take in a friendly game of miniature golf, you can do BOTH at Disney World! Winter Summerland Mini Golf You’ll want to be sure to book a tee time for a full round of golf, but most mini-golf is available without an advance reservation, and Disney’s complimentary transportation can get you there. It’s a great way to spend time bonding together without having to leave the Disney bubble for entertainment outside of the theme parks. HOT TIP: Ask at the hotel front desk for a Magical Extras Savings Card — you might even score that mini golf round for FREE! We don’t mean to make you paranoid, but you are ALWAYS being watched when you visit Disney World. He’s watching you… Wait — you didn’t know that? Surely, you know about all the security cameras and security personnel in the parks, right? There’s a reason they show up so quickly when anything goes down. But we’re not even talking about that. Instead, we’re talking about how other visitors are watching you (cue “Somebody’s Watching Me” on Spotify). But there are some places where you may not even realize visitors are probably watching you. Okay, so we really don’t mean to make you paranoid, but we’ve got some experience people watching in Disney World, and quite honestly, it can be a lot of fun to see what other visitors are doing. Sometimes we even get to witness some pretty magical moments that happen in the parks. So here are the spots where you can REALLY get your eyes on folks in Disney World. France Pavilion at EPCOT Have you ever visited the France Pavilion at EPCOT and felt like someone might be watching you? Well, they are! The Skyliner gives a good bird’s eye view of everything going on in that pavilion, and yes, we’re always seeing what people are up to there. You get a GREAT view of France from the Skyliner This also gives a good idea of what the line for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is like, as well as see just how crowded the pavilion can be (and it is often crowded). But mostly, we’re just looking at y’all buying shoulder Remy plushes and eating crêpes. This Is the BEST Thing at EPCOT Right Now, and You Can’t Tell Us Otherwise. Tomorrowland While some folks are making their way to Space Mountain or Buzz Lightyear’s Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland, others are heading over to ride the PeopleMover. We bet you never even thought about how you can see folks in Tomorrowland from the PeopleMover, right? Well, YOU CAN. The PeopleMover above Star Traders The PeopleMover takes you on a tour through Tomorrowland and even goes through Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear’s Ranger Spin, and Star Traders (where you can judge people’s purchasing decisions) and you can see ALL (well, maybe not all, but you see a lot). My Biggest Regret About Going to Magic Kingdom The Front of EPCOT If you’ve ever been on the Monorail, you might know that you get a GREAT view of the front of EPCOT from the train, right? But if you’re on the ground in the front of EPCOT, you’re probably not even thinking about how the people on the Monorail can see everything you’re doing. But they can. People on the Monorail can see you As far as we go, though? We’re just mostly looking down at Spaceship Earth to see how many people are in line and admiring Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana (and everyone walking through it) from above. Why We’re Worried About Going to EPCOT on January 12th Chef Mickey’s You’re probably so busy having a great time with all the characters at Chef Mickey’s that you’ve never even bothered to look up. If you did look up, though, you might have seen some people upstairs at Disney’s Contemporary Resort staring back down at you. People can see you from above! We’ll admit that this is one of our favorite spots to people watch because we can see the characters at the restaurant, too, and enjoy some of those fun interactions those dining in Chef Mickey’s are having. A WARNING About Going to Chef Mickey’s for Lunch Front of Magic Kingdom If you’ve ever walked up the steps to take the Walt Disney World Railroad train from its Main Street, U.S.A. station, you might have looked down at all those people at the front of Magic Kingdom. Granted, we usually just take in the view of Main Street itself, but you can’t help but see all the people, too. This is a great spot to get a view of Main Street, U.S.A. This is another great spot to people watch, but it’s even better if you want a great view of the Festival of Fantasy parade (although you’ll need to get up there early for the best vantage point). The SECRET Way DFB Reporters Get The BEST Disney World Parade Photos! Pinocchio Village Haus Yes, you aren’t even safe from being watched when you’re eating. One reason we love Pinocchio Village Haus is that it has upper level seating. That means we can people watch WHILE we’re eating, and we will almost ALWAYS go upstairs when we dine here. Upstairs at Pinocchio’s Village Haus So the next time you’re having a meal or snack at Pinocchio Village Haus, just look up and wave to the people on the second floor. Might as well make some friends while you’re there, right? This $8 Meal Could Be a Gamechanger in Disney World So no matter where you are in Disney World, people are going to see you, but you’ll be seen more in some places than others. It’s nothing to be bothered about, though — because if people are watching us, they’re just going to see us having the time of our lives in the Most Magical Place on Earth. If you’re a fan of McDonald’s nuggets, listen up! McDonald’s McNuggets McDonald’s has been super busy creating new spinoff menus for their CosMc’s restaurants, introducing nostalgic toys in their adult happy meals, AND exclusive Squishmallow plush toys with their happy meals for kids. But we’ve learned of a NEW way to customize your nugget order, and it’s blowing our minds! We’ve got four magical words for you: extra crispy chicken nuggets. That’s right — McDonald’s fans around the nation are starting to test out this extra special request. McNuggets! The first we’ve seen of this hack was posted on TikTok back in February of this year by @xomakel2, and since then, it seems that more and more McDonald’s visitors are starting to make the request to the order to test if it’s possible at their nearest restaurant. Adults Happy Meal at McDonald’s Tommy Winkler (@tommywinkler), also known as The Food Guy, stitched the original video with his own attempt at making the “extra crispy” request with his own 10-piece McNugget order at a McDonald’s drive-thru window. ©TikTok He looks into the camera while waiting for the employee’s response, and after a few moments, she concedes to his request. After receiving his order, Winkler looks suspiciously over the nuggets and seems content with his initial take at the difference, noting, “These actually look extra crispy.” TikTok But his review confirms his suspicions when he takes a bite of the extra crispy nugget. The audible crunch is pretty telling. He then continues to take several bites of more nuggets, suggesting that this crunchy new texture was not just a one-off occurrence. Nuggs are life We’ve seen other social media users request “well done” nuggets, too, though McDonald’s has not commented on the trend yet. Keep in mind that since this is not an official McDonald’s menu request, your experience may vary. But who knows — if you ask nicely, you might get lucky! Who knew! Say what you want about Cinderella Castle’s latest paint job, but it looks like another castle has chosen to follow suit. Cinderella Castle Cinderella Castle has undergone many changes since its original design, including expanded spires, a wild birthday cake theme (that you can even recreate with a photo filter on Genie+), and its most recent EARidescent paint job to celebrate Disney World’s 50th anniversary. Turns out Cinderella Castle isn’t alone! In fact, the very castle that inspired its design has chosen to follow in Disney’s footsteps. Craigievar Castle in Scottland is said to have been THE castle that inspired Walt Disney to bring the iconic Cinderella Castle to life. Walt is believed to have based the designs of several Disney fairytale castles on Craigievar, located in Aberdeenshire, after seeing pictures of it. ©BBC Now, it’s undergoing a MASSIVE transformation to have its famous pink color restored to its full glory, according to BBC News. ©BBC Extensive work has been happening for more than a year to protect the historic building and conserve it from the effects of climate change. The National Trust for Scotland has described Craigievar as a “beautiful pink castle”(yes, pink!), and it’s looking to complete the massive undertaking by Spring 2024. ©BBC According to Steven Harper, a Stonemason working on Craigievar, “there’s about three pigments (we’ve) got in for the Craigievar pink,” but he couldn’t detail much more of the secret “recipe” that’s creating the signature pink hue. Gille Young, who works for the National Trust of Scottland, also noted they’re “very excited about it…” and “hopefully the collections will be starting to feel the benefit of a really good environment.” Upon completion of the project, the National Trust of Scottland aims to open Craigievar Castle up to the public. Keeping the Disney Parks in tip-top shape means that there are countless Cast Members performing maintenance, upkeep, and even handling dangerous tools and chemicals once the visitors have left. Disneyland Having former Cast Members on the team, we know that Disney goes above and beyond to ensure that Cast Members take proper safety precautions. However, incidents still happen. On December 28th at around 2AM, a chemical spill was reported at Disneyland, which released a vapor cloud. Disneyland The Orange County Register reports that the vapor cloud of chlorine and another agent caused breathing difficulties for two Cast Members. Sleeping Beauty Castle The Cast Members were then transported UCI Medical Center in Orange County for evaluation, where one was left hospitalized. Disneyland The chemical spill was promptly cleaned up by the Anaheim Fire & Rescue Hazardous Material team. As far as we know, park hours and operation weren’t affected by the spill. The Anaheim Fire and Hazmat Team is still exploring the incident. We’ll be sure to keep you updated with more Disney news, so make sure to follow along for more so that you’re always in the loop. Things in Disney World are ALWAYS changing, and that’s part of the fun of visiting often. Chef Mickey at Chef Mickey’s Rides often change (and even sometimes become all-new rides). Things like the EPCOT transformation are coming to life. We see new restaurants opening while others undergo changes. Well, we’ve got some changes to tell you about at one of Disney World’s most popular character dining experiences. If you’re planning on eating at Chef Mickey’s, you’ll notice some menu changes for both breakfast and dinner. The Breakfast Buffet offerings have seen some changes. So instead of Waffles and French Toast, you can now dine on Waffles, House-made French Toast, Seasonal Pancakes, and Croissant Beignets. Yep, Croissant Beignets. Pancakes! Carved Pit Ham and Beef Brisket are now listed as Carved Pit Ham and Andouille, Peppers, and Onions. Wait, are we sensing a New Orleans theme here? First beignets and now Andouille? Okay, Chef Mickey’s, we’re intrigued. Eggs and Frittatas have been replaced by Steak and Egg Scramble, Omelets, and Tofu Scramble. Okay, Steak and Egg Scramble, we see you. We’re interested…anyone else? Potatoes and Eggs Dinner at Chef Mickey’s also has some changes. Seasonal-inspired Salads have a description change from “with Ranch Dressing” to “with Assorted Dressings.” The following has also been removed from the menu: REMOVED: Shrimp and Grits REMOVED: Roasted Pork REMOVED: House-made Macaroni & Cheese However, the following was added: ADDED: Shrimp Scampi ADDED: Carved New York Strip Loin and Herb-roasted Turkey ADDED: Baked Macaroni & Cheese Macaroni and Cheese Chef Mickey’s has continued to surprise us recently — the food has been getting better here every year. We’re looking forward to trying some of these new items (especially the Croissant Beignets), so we’ll be heading over to Disney’s Contemporary Resort to check it all out soon. We’ve been telling you about how busy things are in Orlando right now. The crowds are here! Even Orlando International Airport has warned travelers about projected holiday travel crowds visiting the airport. Disney World is super busy, too, as we’ve seen with crowd levels AND the price of Genie+ (which has hit its highest ever). Well, it turns out that Orlando is also near the top of an important list for winter travel. TripAdvisor just released its Winter Travel Index, which determined that 58% of Americans surveyed planned to travel during the winter season. The numbers broke down like this: 91% of those traveling are doing so for seasonal things like winter festivals, winter sports and activities, school breaks, and holidays. The holidays are a BIG reason for travel this season The survey also revealed that Americans had bigger trips planned this winter over previous winters, with longer trips of five or more nights being planned. But more importantly, it’s WHERE they’re traveling that has us interested. The #1 American destination might be New York, but the second most popular destination is Orlando (which explains why Disney World is so packed right now). ©Orlando International Airport Hotel searches on TripAdvisor show that the most popular week for travel is December 25th through 31st, coinciding with school breaks. December 26th is the top hotel check-in day. TripAdvisor also looked at prices for the winter season and determined that the least expensive time to travel to Orlando is from December 11th through 17th (oh, well, we’ve missed that window, huh?). Disney World entrance sign Of course, we’ve found that the least crowded time during the holiday season at Disney World is generally the week after Thanksgiving. That said, there will still be some crowds, but the crowds really pick up towards the end of the month, so this is a good time to enjoy everything the holidays have to offer in Disney World, like the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays. If we’re being blunt, Disney’s stock has been underperforming this year. ©The Walt Disney Company With the low cost per share, shareholders have been unimpressed. But recently, Disney reinstated cash dividends as a way to build trust with investors. Amid the pandemic, Disney had removed the dividends, but now, three years later, they are back as a way to entice shareholders who have stock in the company. But was that the right move on Disney’s end? Some may not think so. According to a stock market analyst from the Motley Fool, there may be better ways to earn shareholder’s trust instead of handing out cash dividends. We’re fans of dividends, so hearing this perspective was a bit of a surprise. But here’s why they suggest that this might not have been the play for Disney. Cinderella Castle Disney has had a tough go at it since the pandemic. When the parks and theaters closed to encourage social distancing, they took a hit, which caused them to pull the dividends in the first place. This was certainly unfortunate for investors. Since everything has reopened, including Shanghai Disney in 2023, the business is doing better, but it’s not out of the woods yet, according to the writer on Motley Fool. New Zootopia Land in Shanghai Disney ©Disney The movie content Disney has been putting out has not been as well received as previous movies. And, according to the end-of-the-year reports by Disney, the parks aren’t performing at their best ability. It seems they still have some work to do to make up for the pandemic losses. All in all, with the performance of the company being sub-par in its current state, many may think that this was not the right time to give back the dividends. Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom It seems the company is still working on overcoming a few hardships, and according to the analyst, “the $0.30-per-share dividend is a burden that Disney didn’t need to impose on itself.” It may be one way to regain trust amongst investors, but there may have been other, better, ways of doing that, such as working on bettering the business strategies for experiences. Some may argue that Disney has some work to do outside of handing out dividends. Spaceship Earth It’s possible that the dividends could cause more harm than good. But we will have to wait to find out just how it will affect the company, its stock, and the investors in 2024. If you are a Disney stockholder, you can expect to receive your cash dividend on January 10th, 2024. In the meantime, keep following DFB for more Disney news! There are TONS of different spots to eat in EPCOT, especially in the World Showcase. You want some guac? The Mexico Pavilion has you covered! Need a little fish and chips? You know where to go. In the mood for a little pizza? Go to Via Napoli! Italy Pavilion in EPCOT But over in The Land Pavilion, you’ll find Sunshine Seasons, an underrated quick-service location with options even picky eaters will like. We stopped over recently and noticed that there are some NEW treats on the menu! Not only are there new desserts available, but the previous bakery case has now been blocked off, and these new selections are available in the grab-and-go case. New items available! The new items available are the Honey Sugar Cookie, available for $3.99… Honey Sugar Cookie …the $3.99 Birthday Cake Cookie (which looks awfully similar to a Crumbl cookie, right?)… Birthday Cake Cookie (behind the chocolate chip) …and the Chocolate Chunk Cookie. This one looks pretty similar to Jack-Jack’s Num Num Cookies served at Disney’s Hollywood Studios — down to the square-shaped chocolate chips! It cost $3.99 as well. Chocolate Chunk Cookie (only one left in the front) We also spotted a new Turtle Brownie wrapped up with a layer of chocolate and caramel drizzle. We’ve seen similar Turtle Brownies here in the past, but this one is a different shape and comes in a wrapper. You can try this one for $5.29. Brownie You can also grab the new Peppermint Snowman Milkshake here, which is ADORABLE. This guy was SO new that he didn’t even have a proper description or sign when we found him. Side note, we have a sneaking suspicion that the display shake is not made with soft serve. (But we’d gladly enjoy a cup full of icing if you’re offering, Disney…) Peppermint Snowman Milkshake We’re not sure if this new grab-and-go setup will be a permanent change or if it’s just being used while the parks are busy for the holidays.
