  2. Planning for a Disney trip is complicated enough — but throw unexpected weather into the mix and things can go downhill pretty quickly. Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure And, while Disney World hunkers down for a “super soaker” storm, over in California, Disneyland is currently under a state of emergency due to a second “atmospheric river.” Here’s what we know. A significant portion of Southern California is battling a serious weather event, prompting Governor Gavin Newsom to declare a state of emergency for eight counties, including Orange County where Disneyland Resort is located. (CNN) Disneyland Flood watches were put into effect on February 3rd and will last through February 6th in central and southern California. Mandatory evacuations have been issued for Santa Barbara, San José, Los Angeles, and Ventura Counties. Rainy day This is the second atmospheric river to hit Southern California in less than a week. The National Weather Service also warned that “all systems are go for one of the most dramatic weather days in recent memory.” Experts predict the storm will stall in the greater Los Angeles area Monday night, bringing up to 8 inches of rain to the coast and up to 14 inches in the mountains, the LA Times reports. 4. Trust us, we know how tempting it probably is to buy every single souvenir that catches your eye on your Disney World trip. ALL the mugs! But, unless you’ve got some sort of Mary Poppins or Hermione-esque magic bag, that probably isn’t a very good idea. We love Disney souvenirs as much as the next fan, and chances are you’re not talking about this major problem — but you probably should be. Join us, Dear DFB reader, on a journey through yesteryear. You see, there once was a time in Disney World when Disney would send souvenir purchases you made in the parks back to your hotel room so you didn’t have to lug them around with you all day. And, not only that, but it was completely free. Wilderness Lodge But, when Disney World shuttered its doors during the COVID-19 pandemic, package delivery was shuttered as well. Now that nearly everything has returned to “normal” in the parks and resorts, it would make sense that Disney would bring this service back, right? RIGHT??? Art of Animation Hotel Well, maybe not. As of now, there aren’t any signs that Disney plans on bringing package delivery back, but we’re still holding out hope. This was a major bonus and a big reason folks even chose to stay at Disney World hotels in the first place. Being able to purchase a souvenir or two and not have to worry about dragging it around with you all day was a huge perk and we know we’re not the only ones who miss it! Polynesian Village Resort Even though package delivery may not be back yet for 2024, there are still a few solutions to your package problem. First, you could rent one of the Disney lockers to store your items so you don’t need to hold onto them. Disney’s Yacht Club Disney also offers a shipping service so you can have the item sent to your home — for an added fee. This can be a solid option if you’re purchasing a larger item or just don’t have much space left in your suitcase (we know the feeling). They will even ship your items internationally, with a few exceptions. It may not be the service we once knew and loved, but it’s something! 9. We know that 2024 basically just started, but who says you can’t start planning your 2025 Disney World trip? Disney World It’s a good thing that you’re starting to plan now because there are so many things to consider like when you’ll go, where to stay, which park to visit first, and so much more. But there is something that is coming to Orlando in 2025 that could dramatically affect your travel plans, so let’s talk about it! As we said, there are so many things to plan for when considering your Disney World trip, and it’s fantastic that you’re thinking about them all so early. To that end, we have to tell you about the mammoth that’s coming to Orlando that seriously might have you partially or altogether reconsidering your trip to Disney World. We’re talking about Universal’s Epic Universe! Epic Universe In case you didn’t know, Universal is well underway with constructing a brand new theme park in Orlando and it’s going to be… well, EPIC! They are calling it their “most ambitious theme park yet.” In a recent press release, they announced, “Epic Universe will present a level of theme park immersion and innovation that is unmatched – transporting guests to expansive worlds featuring more than 50 awe-inspiring attractions, entertainment, dining, and shopping experiences that come together to create an unforgettable adventure that is nothing short of epic.” ©Universal In the same announcement, Universal Orlando revealed details about the five themed lands that will make up Epic Universe: Celestial Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Dark Universe. Celestial Park It sounds like Celestial Park will be the main hub of Epic Universe. Universal said that this land “will be the gateway to explore the four additional worlds of Epic Universe.” ©Universal According to Universal’s announcement, “Celestial Park puts the ‘park’ back in ‘theme park.’ As soon as guests enter the imaginative world, they’ll embark on a journey of discovery, thrills, and excitement as they wander through lush living gardens nestled along shimmering waters surrounded by stunning architecture inspired by astronomical and mythological elements.” ©Universal Celestial Park won’t just be an ordinary park, though. There will also be an “exhilarating roller coaster adventure” where guests “board a shooting comet.” In addition, there will be some restaurants and merchandise shops. ©Universal From Celestial Park, guests can travel “through a set of majestic portals” to visit the other four lands. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic This will be the third Harry Potter-themed land at Universal Orlando. ©Universal In this land, “guests will discover a different era of the wizarding world in an all-new land that blends 1920s wizarding Paris from Warner Bros. Pictures’ Fantastic Beasts films with the iconic British Ministry of Magic from the Harry Potter series.” SUPER NINTENDO WORLD We’ve already seen a Super Nintendo World at Universal Hollywood, but now one is coming to Orlando, too! ©Universal Universal said, “Guests will enter the iconic green pipe and discover a new way to play as they step into the worlds of beloved characters like Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Donkey Kong.” How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk We can’t wait to explore this new land, which is themed to How To Train Your Dragon. ©Universal According to Universal’s announcement, “Gests can soar with dragons in a colorful world filled with Viking adventures.” Dark Universe The final themed land is Dark Universe. ©Universal Universal said that visitors will “encounter everything from the experiments of Dr. Victoria Frankenstein to the shadowy landscape where monsters roam in a world of myth and mystery.” In addition to these 5 new lands, we’ve gotten more information on 3 new attractions, and even info on several of the restaurants, and there’s so much more to come! So when can we actually experience this amazing new park? ©Universal Back in 2022, during a quarterly Comcast investors call, Universal shared that it would be ready “certainly in time for summer 2025.” So, realistically we really don’t have to wait too much longer, possibly a year or a little more! ©Universal Due to the pace of construction, it looks like Universal is trying to hold to that timeline. It’s doubtful that the park will open before 2025, but there’s always the possibility that we could see it open early that year. ©Universal So, with all of that, we can understand if you’d be thinking about planning a dedicated trip to Epic Universe, or maybe modifying your Disney World trip and cutting out a day early so you can stay at Universal. Any way you slice it, it’s a lot to think about. Well, in the meantime, keep it right here for the latest Disney World news, planning tips, tricks, and more! 4 Secret Facts REVEALED About Universal’s Epic Universe Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 10. Streaming services are now at the point where they’re trying to cut their expenses and change their business models to become more profitable. ©Disney For example, Amazon Prime and Netflix have both jumped on the bandwagon of offering ad-supported streaming. Disney is also working on making its streaming profitable — it’s what CEO Bob Iger calls his #1 priority. We’ve seen Disney+ cancel some shows, and remove shows from its streaming service library. Well, now even MORE movies and shows have been removed from Disney+ in one region of the world. According to Deadline, Disney+ has removed more than 120 movies and shows from its subscription service in the EMEA region, which is Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Most of the removed content includes Disney Channel original movies like Zenon, as well as some classic live-action movies, but some TV shows like Pepper Ann and So Random! have also been removed. Even some Nat Geo movies and shows have been taken down from the service. ©Disney The shows were removed after Disney reviewed its library title. Some more well-known movies that were taken down include Babes in Toyland (1976), Max Keeble’s Big Move, Return from Witch Mountain (1978), Swiss Family Robinson (both 1940 and 1960 films), That Darn Cat, The Absent-Minded Professor, The Shaggy Dog, The Sandlot, and more. ©Disney We’ll have to keep an eye out to see if any more shows and movies get removed from the North American version of Disney+. 11. The beauty of Disney’s Animal Kingdom is, well…it’s full of animals. Disney’s Animal Kingdom But Animal Kingdom isn’t just a place where Disney showcases animals from all over the world. No, Disney also does a great deal with animal conservation and has a breeding program in place to help increase the numbers of species that are endangered. Well, a new baby animal has been born at Animal Kingdom…but its story is even more special thanks to the Cast Member who inspired its name. Meet Elijah. Elijah is an adorable baby Okapi who was born in October 2023 and recently made his debut on the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail. Elijah is the 14th Okapi born in Disney World and the first baby Okapi since 2012. When he was born, Elijah only weighed 46 pounds, but now he weighs in at 165 pounds. Meet Elijah Disney works with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan to make births like Elijah’s possible. This program sees to responsible breeding of endangered species, like the Okapi, that currently face threats due to poaching and loss of habitat. Elijah and his mom But the story here isn’t just about Elijah. It’s also about how Elijah got his name. Elijah is named after a Cast Member who has worked at Disney World for 50 years! Cast Member Elijah started working in Magic Kingdom in 1973 and then transferred to the horticulture department of Animal Kingdom when it opened in 1998. He helps create and maintain the habitats for ALL the animals at Animal Kingdom. According to Disney, “His passion and dedication to his role has made him a cherished cast member, and what better way to honor him than to name a rare okapi after him?” Cast Member Elijah Isn’t that so sweet? 12. Celebrities are just like us…well, sometimes, at least. Magic Kingdom That’s because there are a LOT of celebrities who love Disney as much as we do. John Stamos has a MASSIVE collection of vintage Disney memorabilia. Neil Patrick Harris has visited a bar in EPCOT so much that the bar finally gave him his own personal table. Well, huge sports celebrities like to visit Disney World, too! Jason Kelce of the Philadelphia Eagles was recently spotted in Disney World with his family, and we’ve got proof that he’s a Disney adult…just like us. Disney recently shared a photo of the Kelces enjoying their time in Magic Kingdom, and we’re giving Jason some props for his Mickey Mouse shirt. If you’re not a huge football fan, all you need to know is that Kelce is an American football center for the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles and a Super Bowl Champion. This will be his seventh Pro Bowl. 13. Can you believe how much news we’ve gotten about Epic Universe?! Holy smokes! ©Universal We still have to wait until 2025 to experience this new park, but now we know all about some of the different rides and all the different lands coming to the park. But what about those hidden details that are just barely noticeable in Universal’s announcement, like the new lounge coming to the park? Let’s dive in! One of the new restaurants coming to the center of the park, Celestial Park, is the Blue Dragon Pan-Asian Restaurant. This restaurant will feature dining that will take guests on “a culinary journey across Asia as they enjoy authentic Chinese, Japanese, and Thai fare.” ©Universal Not bad for a theme park, right? This is going to be a full-service restaurant, not quick service, and its design will be accented with neon dragons and ethereal lanterns, according to Universal. ©Universal But in the concept art photos, you’ll also notice a full bar inside the restaurant that very well could be a new lounge! Lounges are fantastic ways to experience the cuisine of a table-service restaurant without needing a reservation. ©Universal However, many lounges do have walk-up waitlists, so you can’t just walk in whenever you want if they’re popular. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on this new potential lounge and all about how to get in as soon as Universal reveals more information. More Epic Universe News! 14. Not everything in Disney World goes according to plan. Magic Kingdom Sometimes, you’re hit with bad weather (yep, it’s raining today). Sometimes, a bear invades Magic Kingdom (okay, well, it only happened ONCE…so far). Sometimes, your favorite ride is closed. Well, we’ve got some bad news about a VERY popular ride in Magic Kingdom. TRON Lightcycle / Run has been closed all day (February 4th). When we arrived at Magic Kingdom, we made our way over to Tomorrowland and noticed that TRON / Lightcycle Run was closed. Although it is raining today, this is not a ride that normally goes down due to weather (since even the outdoor portion of the ride is covered with a canopy). So the weather isn’t the problem. Something else must be going on. TRON Lightcycle / Run is closed Cast Members were standing in front of the ride, explaining that it is not currently open. As of the time this post was written, the ride is still closed. Cast Members explaining the ride is closed So here’s the thing: TRON Lightcycle / Run does not currently use a standby line. To ride TRON, you’ll need to either grab a spot in the free virtual queue or pay for the Individual Lightning Lane option. Those with a virtual queue will have to wait for the ride to reopen; at that time, the virtual queue will place you back in the boarding group system. If the ride does not reopen later that day, you can talk to a Cast Member at the attraction or someone at one of the blue umbrellas (the Guest Experience Team). There’s probably not much they can do at that point, but it never hurts to ask if there’s anything they can do to help. TRON Lightcycle / Run However, for those who paid for the Individual Lightning Lane option, you’ll get an “experience redemption,” which serves as a boarding pass that lets you ride the attraction at any time of the day after it reopens. If the ride doesn’t reopen during the day, you can get a refund, but you have to ask for it. Go to Guest Relations and ask for a refund if the ride does not reopen or if Disney has announced it will remain closed for the rest of the day. Note that if the ride does reopen, you do not qualify for a refund. UPDATE: TRON Lightcycle / Run later reopened in the late afternoon. Stay tuned to DFB for more! Primo Piatto at Disney’s Riviera Resort If you’re staying at one of Disney’s Value Resorts, your dining options will be limited to quick service cafeteria-style food. But if you shell out the extra dough to stay at a Deluxe Resort, we’ve often found that the quick service food quality improves. Riviera Resort’s quick service restaurant was one of our favorites when the hotel first opened in 2019, but how does it stack up now? I recently visited Primo Piatto at Disney’s Riviera Resort to try out some of their signature items and give a full review. And I’ll be honest, I was a little surprised by what I found! Atmosphere Primo Piatto is located on the ground level of Disney’s Riviera Resort, with entrances both on the first floor of the hotel and out back by the pool and Bar Riva. Primo Piatto outdoor entrance When you dine here, you can either order at the cash registers, or you can place a Mobile Order. Cash registers The Mobile Order pick-up station is right next to the kitchen. Mobile Order pick-up There’s also a grab-and-go section with prepackaged options if you’re ordering at the restaurant. They’ve got some classic snacks and breakfast choices over here. Grab and go section There’s also a fridge and freezer section. This is where you can pick up drinks and gelato! Refrigerated items If you purchase a drink cup or a refillable resort mug, you can use the Coca-Cola Freestyle machines to get a variety of drinks. Coke Freestyle Machines On the other side of the kitchen is a massive seating area with banquettes, tables, and booths. Seating area It gets pretty busy during popular meal times, so it might be a good idea to not dine during the big rush. Lots of places to sit! So now that we’ve checked out the vibes, let’s talk about the menu! Menu As far as the menu goes, Primo Piatto’s food is vaguely Italian and French-inspired, with some American twists. They’ve got hearth-baked pizzas and hot sandwiches to start the menu, with options like burgers and a Croque Monsieur. ©Disney For a cold sandwich, you could order the Spicy Italian Sandwich. They’ve got a couple of salad options, as well as Lasagna and a Colossal Meatball. ©Disney The one main plant-based option is the Grilled Vegetable Skewer, and then the list of sides includes tomato soup, fries, side salads, and of course, their signature Romano and Herbed Fries. ©Disney There are quite a few different options for the kiddies, ranging from shrimp to pasta to burgers and chicken strips. ©Disney Outside of those listed, there are also basic bakery items and grab-and-go snacks available. Eats Now let’s talk about the food! I started my meal with quite the spread of items, including some that Primo Piatto is well-known for. All the eats! First up, we’ve got the Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza for $13.29. It’s a hearth-baked pizza topped with tomato sauce, Italian sausage, pepperoni, provolone, and grated parmesan. The pizza!! This was already a little bit cold when I got it, but I didn’t really mind because it’s one of the most delicious quick service pizzas I’ve eaten in Disney World! There’s a hint of spice in the sauce and the meats, and you get a generous portion of pepperoni, sausage, and parmesan. My one issue with ordering flatbread pizzas in Disney World is that they don’t give you a side. This would be filling for some people, but those with larger appetites might want to order something else or get a side dish. They pre-cut it into slices The other entree I wanted to try was the Lasagna for $12.49. It’s made with Italian sausage and ground beef, and comes with a side of garlic bread. Lasagna and Garlic Bread This has a good herbaceous flavor and there’s a great meat to pasta ratio here. However, this was served to me on the edge of being cold — I would’ve loved to have it fresh and warm, as I think that would’ve made a lot of difference in my enjoyment. It’s a pretty hefty dish overall though, and great for pasta lovers. You get a decent portion! The big downside to the lasagna is actually the garlic bread that comes on the side! It had a REALLY strong herby, earthy flavor that didn’t pair well with the dinner roll-style bread. It was also fairly chewy. I would’ve much preferred a typical garlic toast on the side instead. Two thumbs down for the dinner roll! Moving on to the sides, one of the popular items here at Primo Piatto is the Romano and Herbed Fries. They’re $4.99 and you get a pretty decent portion. Romano and Herbed Fries These are your typical Disney World quick service french fries, except they have the addition of romano cheese and some herbs. Like regular Disney fries, they’re great to eat when they’re hot and fresh, but your enjoyment of them will drop significantly as they cool off. The really weird thing about these is that they’re just topped with cold shredded cheese. They would be easier to eat and the flavors would blend more effectively if the cheese were warm and melty. I would’ve also preferred more cheese and herbs overall — most of what was in the container just fell to the bottom. Honestly, I left these feeling like they were a little overrated. It’s just cold cheese on top. But don’t worry, there’s room for recovery because dessert is up next! I had to try their classic Tiramisu for $6.79. Tiramisu This held up surprisingly well! It has a nice light, fluffy texture with a mild coffee flavor near the top. However, the coffee gets STRONG as you make it to the bottom, and the cake base was incredibly moist, almost a little too wet. Look how light and fluffy that is! Last but not least, I got the prepackaged gelato to try! I decided to test the Toasted Honey Almond Gelato flavor for $5.79. I’m a big gelato girlie, so I was looking forward to this! Toasted Honey Almond Gelato Sadly, this was a pretty big letdown. The flavors were fine but the texture was all wrong. The gelato was frosty, so when I got a spoonful, I had to chew it instead of letting it melt in my mouth. There was a rich almond flavor and a hint of honey, and honestly, I think it would be delicious if it were fresh-scooped gelato. But sitting in a freezer in the back of the restaurant certainly didn’t do it any favors! Sad little frosty gelato So how does Primo Piatto perform overall? Overall In the end, I left my experience at Primo Piatto feeling a little confused. Both of the desserts came up short, and even the beloved Romano fries weren’t as good as I hoped. The two entrees were the stars of the meal, but both were served just a little bit colder than I would’ve liked. Primo Piatto Ultimately, I think this place is fine in terms of Disney World quick service restaurants, and it’s definitely ranking higher on the list for spots where you can order pizza, but it’s probably not going to crack my top 5 or top 10 fast food spots on property. However, they do have some really fun seasonal treats here from time to time, so I recommend checking those out! Fruits Rouge Cheesecake If you’re staying at the Riviera, you’ll probably be able to find something on the menu here that you enjoy. I just wouldn’t suggest going too far out of your way to eat here specifically! Nosh or Not? Take a journey to the Rivier and dine here if… You’re staying at the Riviera or on the Skyliner. If you’re staying nearby and you want something a little more unique than the food you’d get at a cafeteria-style quick service, then this might be a good stop for you. You’re planning on getting entrees. The entrees were the thing that really stood out to me here — that pizza was particularly delicious, and the lasagna was impressive for a quick service spot. Skip this spot and dine elsewhere if… You don’t have a tight food budget. If you’re visiting the Riviera and can afford to splurge a bit, I would more likely recommend Bar Riva or Topolino’s Terrace. Both restaurants are DFB favorites! You’re not staying nearby. It’s probably not worth your time to come all the way out to Riviera, especially if you’re not staying on the Skyliner line. There are probably several other delicious quick service restaurants closer to you! Primo Piatto That’s a wrap on my visit to Primo Piatto — thanks for coming along! 17. Getting your wardrobe together for your next Disney World trip? ©Getty Images There’s a lot to consider. Do you bring those new kicks or leave them at home? What about that matching top? Well, while you’re working on that, we pulled together a list of the clothing you won’t want to wear at Disney World. Let’s go! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. First up, let’s talk about pants. Magic Kingdom What pants you’ll wear when at Disney World, is one of the most important decisions you will make! Our recommendation to you is to use wisdom when planning to wear jeans or anything tight. Florida is too hot and prone to rain for too many months of the year to be wearing heavy or thick clothing. 18. It’s been a few years since Disney Genie, Disney Genie+, and Individual Lightning Lanes debuted in Disney World, but you know what? It’s STILL very confusing to a lot of people! TRON Lighting Lane We get it — sometimes we get confused, too, especially when Disney changes something about the service. Basically, Disney Genie is just a free planning tool to help you navigate your day in the parks, while Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes are ways to pay to skip standby lines at many rides and access the Lightning Lane. However, the Individual Lightning Lane option is separate from Genie+ (we told you it was confusing). So, we’re going to try to clear up the rules you need to know about the Individual Lightning Lane option. If you pay for Genie+ in Disney World, you’re essentially paying to access the Lightning Lane (the old FastPass line) for many of Disney World’s rides, but not all of them. The full list of rides covered with Genie+ can be found HERE. Some of Disney World’s most popular rides, though, use the Individual Lightning Lane option, which means you can’t use the Lightning Lane to ride them just by purchasing Genie+. Instead, you have to pay a separate price per ride for those attractions. Lightning Lane at Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Yep, it’s still a bit confusing. Genie+ and the Individual Lightning Lane option are two separate things. You do not have to purchase Genie+ to purchase the Individual Lightning Lane option (or vice versa, for that matter). The Individual Lightning Lane is offered for the following rides in Disney World: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Magic Kingdom TRON Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT Avatar Flight of Passage in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios You can access these Disney World attractions via the “faster” line (the old FastPass line), now referred to as the Lightning Lane. Rise of the Resistance Lightning Lane Before you use the Individual Lightning Lane option, though, there are some rules you need to know. You can only buy ONE Individual Lightning Lane per attraction per day. If you think you can buy Individual Lightning Lane access several times in one day for the same attraction, think again. No, you can’t buy a ride on Flight of Passage twice in one day (although you can buy an Individual Lightning Lane AND also use the free standby line). You’re only allowed to use the Individual Lightning Lane at an attraction ONCE per day. Fight of Passage Lightning Lane So keep that in mind if you’re trying to decide if you want to ride an attraction more than once. As we said, you can ride an attraction via its standby line as many times as you’d like in a day. You Should Always Buy This Cheap Individual Lightning Lane in Disney World. Here’s WHY You can only buy TWO Individual Lightning Lanes per day. Another thing to keep in mind, especially if you’re park hopping, is that you are only allowed to buy two Individual Lightning Lanes per day. So, if you’re visiting Magic Kingdom, you could buy BOTH Individual Lightning Lane selections, but you would NOT be able to park hop and buy another one elsewhere. Tap Point for Lightning Lane entrance for Cosmic Rewind Likewise, if you’re hopping to several parks in one day with Individual Lightning Lane attractions, you’re limited to buying just two, so you’ll want to consider what your priority rides are. Every Disney World Ride That Will Have an Individual Lightning Lane in 2024 Some Individual Lightning Lane attractions also have a virtual queue. Some Disney World attractions also offer the option to sign up for the FREE virtual queue via the My Disney Experience app. This is common for some of the newer rides. At the moment, you can try to get a virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT and TRON Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom. TRON Lightcycle / Run Virtual Queue Note that the virtual queue often fills up quickly, so if you want to ride those popular new attractions, make sure to wake up early and be prepared to join the virtual queue right when it opens. Learn all about how virtual queues work here WHEN you can buy an Individual Lightning Lane depends on where you’re staying. If you’re staying at a Disney World hotel or other select hotels, you can buy your first Individual Lightning Lane at 7AM on the day of your park visit. This includes those staying at Disney-owned hotels, as well as the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin and Shades of Green. Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin However, if you’re staying elsewhere, you’ll have to wait until the park opens to buy your first Individual Lightning Lane. BEWARE: You’ll Face a NEW Problem With Virtual Queues and Individual Lightning Lanes in Disney World in 2024 The price will vary. Another thing you need to know is that the price for the Individual Lightning Lane option varies depending on the ride and how busy the parks are. The serivce is subject to surge pricing, meaning if the parks are really busy, the price of the Individual Lightning Lane option will be higher than when the parks are less busy. ©Disney Here’s an idea of how prices for Individual Lightning Lanes can vary: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train – $10 – $12 per person Flight of Passage — $11 – $16 per person Rise of the Resistance – $15 – $25 per person Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind — $14 – 17 per person TRON Lightcycle / Run — $20 per person Why One Disney World Lightning Lane Is Better Than All the Rest You can’t modify an Individual Lightning Lane in the app once it’s paid for. If you change your mind about an Individual Lightning Lane, you can’t change or cancel your reservation for that ride once it’s made. If you don’t show up for your reservation, you will not receive a refund. However, if the ride goes down when you’re supposed to board it, you may get a refund if the reservation can’t be rescheduled or the ride stays down for the rest of the day. Kylo Ren in Rise of the Resistance However, note that you will not automatically be refunded. You’ll need to speak with a Cast Member at Guest Relations if you want a refund for a ride that remains closed for the rest of the day. How and Why You’ll Pay For Individual Rides in Disney Genie+ We hope this clears up some of the confusion about Individual Lightning Lane and gives you an idea of how it works and what you can and can’t do. 19. I’ve got a dream… Rapunzel in Disney World Yep, excuse us while we bust out with some lyrics from Tangled. But that’s what this post is all about. Okay, so here’s the deal. We’re thinking we need to see a LOT more of Rapunzel in the theme parks and not just merchandise. We’re still disappointed that all we got in Disney World Tangled-themed are some cool bathrooms — PUNZIE DESERVES BETTER. Well, there are some indications that we may actually get a Rapunzel-themed restaurant in Disneyland, and if that happens, we’re booking a flight to Anaheim ASAP. We’ve been getting more and more details about a new expansion over at Tokyo DisneySea at Tokyo Disneyland Resort called Fantasy Springs. That new port at Tokyo DisneySea will include Rapunzel’s Forest, complete with Rapunzel’s Tower. There will also be a Tangled attraction called Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival. ©Disney Even more importantly, though, is that Rapunzel’s Forest will also have a new restaurant, and YES, it’s the Snuggly Duckling, which we’ve been asking for FOREVER. The restaurant, which will take inspiration from Tangled, will offer dining rooms with different atmospheres, but it will also offer a counter-service option, too. Snuggly Duckling Pub ©Disney So what does this have to do with Disneyland? Well, there’s a new initiative, Disneyland Forward called between Disneyland and the City of Anaheim to expand Disneyland to add new lands, attractions, restaurants, and more. As Disneyland only has finite space, though, it basically means re-zoning certain areas of Disneyland property to allow for these new additions, so the company has to work with the City to make that happen. ©Disney Disneyland has been talking about it A LOT, though, and has often pointed out what it’s doing in its international theme parks as examples of what it could do at Disneyland with Tangled mentioned often. It’s even mentioned on the DisneylandForward website under “Possibilities.” ©Disney That means that the Tangled area in Tokyo DisneySea’s Fantasy Springs could end up making its way to Disneyland, including the Snuggly Duckling. You can bet if that happens, we’ll be among the first to book reservations to try it out! So yes, there is a possibility that a new Tangled area could come to Disneyland, along with a Rapunzel-themed restaurant. However, Disneyland still has more meetings planned before a vote is held in spring 2024, which could change the resort’s proposals for the parks. We’ll be keeping an eye out to see how it goes! 20. This is a year of HUGE changes for Disney World! 2023 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival Park pass reservations are gone for most Disney World visitors. All-day park hopping is back. The Disney Dining Plan has returned. Even more changes are coming later in the year: Country Bear Jamboree in Magic Kingdom will reopen with a brand NEW show this summer, and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is set to open this year, too. Things are also changing with EPCOT’s festivals, and we think this year’s Food & Wine Festival is going to be a LOT different. This year’s festival could be shorter Okay, so we’ve already seen one HUGE EPCOT festival change with the dates for the 2024 EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival — the festival is a lot shorter than it was last year. It’s going to end 36 days earlier than in 2023! With things seeming to be getting back to the pre-pandemic level of “normal” in Disney World, we think we could see a change with the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival, too. Could the Food & Wine Festival open in August this year? Before 2020, the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival usually started in August, rather than in July, as it’s been doing the past few years. We believe it could return to a late August opening this year. That could mean that there might be a fifth EPCOT festival during the summer, or it could mean summers will be more chill again in EPCOT. 2023 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival Of course, the opposite could happen. Disney may decide to have the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival begin earlier this year and have it run longer. We have no confirmation that either of these situations is the case, though, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Disney Just Slashed a Popular EPCOT Festival in a Huge Way Demonstrations and Seminars Will Return Okay, so not a lot of folks remember Disney World before 2020, but BEFORE Disney World’s closure, the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival featured a LOT more than it does now. In addition to the food booths, concert series, and activities, there were also a TON of food demonstrations and seminars, some featuring Celebrity Chefs. Workshop at the 2019 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival So here’s the thing, the CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza Festival Areas are set to open in 2024, and we’re guessing that will happen BEFORE the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival. CommuniCore Hall is being built with the intention of hosting festival programming. That could mean that we’ll see the return of the food seminars and demonstrations in some way at this year’s festival. Communicore Hall Construction All we can say is BRING BACK THE CELEBRITY CHEFS! In the past we’ve seen Cat Cora, Robert Irvine, Buddy Valastro, Jamie Deen, and more. Learn more about CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza So we think the 2024 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival will be LIT with a LOT more to do, even if it might end up being a little shorter. All we know is that we’re looking forward to it and will let you know more when we have details! Stay tuned to DFB for more. 21. I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! No, really, we do! Salt & Straw Okay, so every month, we get excited about the new flavors Salt & Straw announces — some of them are WAY out there, too. We’ve had ice cream that tasted like Deviled Eggs. We’ve had ice cream with bugs. Granted, those masterminds at Salt & Straw know how to create some DELICIOUS ice cream, so when we learned about the seven new flavors for February, we knew we had to try a few. We headed to Disney Springs in Disney World and checked out this month’s flavors at Salt & Straw. There’s new flavors are all part of The Chocolatiers Series, which is ALL ABOUT CHOCOLATE. Okay, YES. You’ve got Fran’s Chocolate Almond Gold Bar, Cloudforest’s Cocoa Hazelnut Magic Sauce, Dandelion’s Chocolate Nibs & Frangipane, Compartés’ Cake Batter Chocolate Fudge, and Exquisito Chocolate’s Passionfruit Truffles (a vegan offering). New flavors! We ordered a Split Scoop of the Exquisito Chocolate’s Passionfruit Truffles and Compartés Cake Batter Chocolate Fudge because YUM. Here’s a peek at all five flavors in the February menu. ©Salt & Straw The Exquisito Chocolate’s Passionfruit Truffles is made with vanilla and passionfruit coconut creams, chocolate truffles, Guatemalan dark chocolate stracciatella (vegan), and passionfruit. We thought this ice cream tasted tart and tangy and very refreshing. This is the one ice cream you need on a hot day, for sure! The texture is more like a sorbet than an ice cream because it’s vegan. Exquisito Chocolate’s Passionfruit Truffles on the left The Compartés Cake Batter Chocolate Fudge is made with rainbow-sprinkled cake batter ice cream and brown butter vanilla bean fudge. As expected, this one is VERY sweet, but we loved that it had actual cake crumbles and sprinkles throughout it, plus some chocolate. The vanilla is also the strongest flavor here. Compartés Cake Batter Chocolate Fudge on the right We will warn you, though — these aren’t exactly two flavors that go well together, but you know us, we like to experiment! Separately, though, they were both delicious in their own ways! If you want to grab these flavors, they’ll only be available through the end of February — you can grab them in both Disney World and Downtown Disney in Disneyland. 22. If you’re planning a trip to Disneyland Resort soon, you might want to listen up. Disneyland A serious weather event is headed for California, and reports are predicting life-threatening and damaging flooding and strong wind in California this weekend. According to ABC News, flood watches were put into effect on February 3rd. The flood watches will last through February 6th in central and southern California. Meteorologists are predicting serious flooding and rainfall between 3 and 6 inches. 23. Sometimes Disney has to close down certain rides, restaurants, and attractions in order to update and refurbish them. Usually, those closures only last a few weeks or maybe a few months at most. But there are a couple of things that have been MISSING from Magic Kingdom for a LONG time now, and we’re starting to wonder if they’ll ever return at all! Don’t Worry — Cinderella Castle Is Still There! Let’s check out these mysteriously missing things and take a look at ALL the temporary closures and refurbishments that will affect Disney World from February 4th through the 10th. We’ve checked back every single day, but every day we’re disappointed to see that it’s still gone! There’s no word on when the bridge might return. Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick service restaurant that’s remained closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. Tomorrowland Terrace This restaurant’s location is prime real estate, just off Main Street, U.S.A., by the entrance to Tomorrowland. It seems like it’d be a no-brainer to reopen it so that guests have more options for eating and can take advantage of that huge dining room! It’s completely closed in here. Once in a while, you’ll see the dining rooms open as a rest area, but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates. These aren’t the only closures in Disney World this week, though. Let’s take a look at all the refurbishments that are currently affecting the rides, restaurants, and hotels in Disney World! Voyage of the Little Mermaid Disney is going to introduce a NEW show in this spot, though it will still be themed to the animated movie The Little Mermaid! 24. Disney has a LOT of lofty goals for the future, including plans to spend a whopping $60 billion to expand its parks. Disney World entrance sign In Disney World, we’re already seeing the addition of at least one new attraction, an update for a classic attraction, a re-theming of an entire land, plus an expansion at Magic Kingdom. But one thing Disney World fans have been craving for a LONG time is a fifth park. Well, that very well could be a possibility for Disney World. Universal Orlando just released a LOT of new details about its Epic Universe — and well, to say that it’s going to be “epic” is an understatement. The new park will feature five NEW themed lands, with five new restaurants, plus two new hotels nearby. This is going to create a LOT of stiff competition for Disney World, perhaps for the first time since Universal Orlando opened. ©Universal Well, now experts are predicting that Disney might want to finally get around to building a fifth park in order to properly compete with Universal, especially with Epic Universe opening in 2025. According to The Orlando Sentinel, Martin Lewison, associate professor of business management at Farmingdale State College in New York, said, “There’s an 800-pound gorilla in the room, but there’s also a 600-pound gorilla in the room. We’ve watched that gorilla grow from little gorilla to big gorilla.” Will Disney build a 5th park? Dennis Speigel, owner of International Theme Park Services, believes Epic Universe is going to end up becoming a serious contender once the park opens. “This is going to tilt the axis of the theme-park world, I believe, in Orlando. This park is going to perform at enormous numbers,” he said, adding that he believes Epic Universe will attract between 5 million and 6 million people in its first year. ©Universal Universal was already starting to catch up with Disney World when it opened The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. “We saw the largest jump in attendance and margins we’d seen in the industry [with Potter],” Spiegel said. “So there’s no question that this new park Epic Universe, in my mind, puts Universal on par, on level with Disney now.” In other words, he expects Disney to start speeding up development in Disney World. Wizarding World of Harry Potter “You’re going to see a big announcement. … They’re going to add a fifth park,” he predicted. “I’ve heard rumors that it has been worked on for several years now. But I think the [Universal] announcement …. will be a catalyst for Disney to show their hand as well,” he said. Animal Kingdom Is Disney’s most recent park, built in 1998 Disney has not mentioned anything about a potential “fifth gate,” but with the amount of money being pledged to its theme parks, the company has some big plans, including plans for Disney World. If an announcement is made, we’ll be sure to share it with you (you know, once we’re done LOSING OUR MINDS), so stay tuned to DFB for more.
