This Carry-On Is Essential Carry On Luggage We love this carry-on suitcase! It’s larger than most carry-on-sized bags, but it still qualifies and easily fits into the overhead bin compartments on US flights. Shop this suitcase on Amazon here! You’ll Need Packing Cubes for Organization ©Amazon These organization cubes make packing and unpacking so easy! You can fit more stuff in your suitcase with them, and you can organize your outfits for each day into different cubes. Shop this bag on Amazon here! This Toiletry Bag Is SO Easy To Unpack ©Amazon Since we use that other toiletry bag for our ears, we grabbed this one for our actual toiletries! 4. A LOT is changing in Disney World, and no, we’re not even talking about everything that changed at EPCOT, the Magic Kingdom expansion, or the DinoLand re-theme in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Lightning Lane at Peter Pan’s Flight Nope, we’re talking about Genie+, which will soon STOP being Genie+ and instead be called Lightning Lane Multi-Pass, with Individual Lightning Lane becoming Lightning Lane Single Pass. With the name change also comes a lot of other changes, and if you’re confused, well, it’s okay, because it is A LOT. But we’re going to give you a complete guide about the new service so that you’ll be a pro when it begins on July 24th. Lightning Lane Multi-Pass Lightning Lane Multi-Pass is a paid service that lets you bypass standby lines at rides and enter their Lightning Lane. It’s basically the new name for Genie+, but it comes with some changes. One of the biggest changes is that you will be able to purchase Lightning Lane Multi-Pass BEFORE YOUR TRIP and make three advance Lightning Lane selections in the park of your choice. Disney World hotel guests will be able to make Lightning Lane selections seven days before their trip, while everyone else can make those selections three days before their trip. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure For advance selections, rides will be placed into tiers for Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, (Disney’s Animal Kingdom will not have the tier system). Two tiers of rides will be available. You’ll be able to make an advanced Lightning Lane selection for one ride in the first tier, and then two more from the second tier. Or you can choose three rides from the second tier. Here’s how the tiers break down: Magic Kingdom Choose one attraction: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Jungle Cruise Peter Pan’s Flight Space Mountain Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Choose two attractions (or three if you choose none above): The Barnstormer Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Dumbo the Flying Elephant Haunted Mansion “it’s a small world” Mad Tea Party The Magic Carpets of Aladdin The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh Mickey’s PhilharMagic Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor Pirates of the Caribbean Tomorrowland Speedway Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid Under The Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid EPCOT Choose one attraction: Frozen Ever After Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Soarin’ Around the World Choose two attractions (or three if you choose none above): Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival Journey Into Imagination with Figment Living With the Land Mission: SPACE The Seas with Nemo and Friends Spaceship Earth Turtle Talk with Crush Slinky Dog Dash Disney’s Hollywood Studios Choose one attraction: Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith Slinky Dog Dash Choose two attractions (or three if you choose none above): Alien Swirling Saucers Beauty and the Beast — Live on Stage Disney Junior Play and Dance! For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular Muppet*Vision 3D Star Tours The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Toy Story Mania Toy Story Mania Disney’s Animal Kingdom Choose three attractions: DINOSAUR Expedition Everest — Legend of the Forbidden Mountain Feathered Friends in Flight! Festival of the Lion King Finding Nemo: The Big Blue
and Beyond! It’s Tough to Be a Bug! Kali River Rapids Kilimanjaro Safaris Na’vi River Journey Kilimanjaro Safaris On the day of your visit to that park, once you use one selection, you can immediately make another one based on what’s still available in the My Disney Experience app (similar to how Genie+ currently works). Pricing for Lightning Lane Multi-passes depends on surge pricing, so the prices could vary from day to day. Lightning Lane Single Pass Lightning Lane Single Pass will work like the Individual Lightning Lane selection and it will basically work the same way as the current Individual Lighting Lane system works, save for one big change — you’ll be able to make your Lightning Lane Single Pass purchases BEFORE your trip and plan your selections in advance. You are basically paying an additional fee per ride for attractions that offer this option. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance The full list of attractions that will have the Lightning Lane Single Pass option available are as follows: Magic Kingdom: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train TRON Lightcycle / Run EPCOT Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Disney’s Hollywood Studios Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Disney’s Animal Kingdom Avatar Flight of Passage Flight of Passage Note that the price for each Lightning Lane Single Pass selection is dependent on surge pricing, so the prices could vary from day to day. As with Lightning Lane Multi-Pass, those staying at a Disney World hotel will be able to plan their Lightning Lane Single Passes up to seven days in advance for their entire stay (up to 14 days), with all other guests being able to plan three days in advance. Note that you will be also able to purchase both your Lightning Lane Multi-Passes and your Lightning Lane Single Passes in advance all at once. Spaceship Earth at EPCOT These changes will roll out in Disney World on July 24th, so keep that in mind if you’re visiting after that time. We’ll continue to answer any questions you might have about the new system, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 9. Disney recently revealed some HUGE changes coming soon to Genie+, and we’re breaking down what that might mean for your next Disney World trip. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure First up, the name “Genie+” will be going away to be replaced by Lightning Lane Multi-Pass (insert Fifth Element movie reference here
), while the Individual Lightning Lane option will be renamed Lightning Lane Single Pass. Honestly, these names make SO much more sense. But there will be other changes, too. So how will all these changes affect your trip if your priority is getting a ride on Magic Kingdom’s newest attraction, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure? Okay, let’s back up and figure out exactly what the Lightning Lane Multi-Pass is. This is basically a service you pay for that allows you to bypass standby lines in Disney World and book Lightning Lane access for select rides. As Disney has announced that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will not have a Lightning Lane Single Pass option, it will be one of the rides included with the Multi-Pass. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom One of the biggest changes is that you’ll be able to purchase Multi-Pass and make three Lightning Lane reservations in advance of your trip: seven days in advance for Disney World hotel guests and three days in advance for everyone else. However, the changes also include ride tiers for advance selections (which might sound familiar if you remember Disney World’s old FastPass+ system). Some rides will qualify as tier 1 rides, while others will be tier 2. You’ll be able to get advance Lightning Lane bookings for one tier 1 ride and two tier 2 rides. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is one of five tier 1 rides in Magic Kingdom. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure The other tier 1 rides include Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Space Mountain. That means if you want to book a Lightning Lane in advance for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, you cannot book an advance Lightning Lane for those four other rides. So you’ll have to decide which tier 1 ride is your priority. Louis on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure On the day of your visit, though, once you use one advance selection (unlike previously when you had to use all three), you can make another one based on what is still available on the My Disney Experience app. So, yes, it is a lot like the old FastPass+ system except you have to pay for it now. If you do really want to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure on your day in Magic Kingdom, we think booking the Lightning Lane in advance could be your best bet, and then book the other tier 1 rides (which will likely have less demand) after you’ve gone through Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Mama Odie The new Lightning Lane Multi-Pass and Single Pass will go into effect on July 24th, so if you’re visiting before that, you can just book Tiana’s Bayou Adventure through Genie+ on the day. Stay tuned to DFB for more. Everything you need to know about Lightning Lane Multi-Pass Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Click here to Subscribe! 11. Is there anything better than Disneyland food?! Blue Bayou The correct answer is no! But seriously though, Disneyland food is just a step above the rest and we’ve had some of our favorite treats and eats there. Speaking of eats, we thought we’d head back and check in with one of our favorite spots and see how it’s fairing these days. Let’s grab a bite to eat at Blue Bayou! If you’ve even been hungry in Disneyland and looked for food that isn’t just the typical corn dogs and pretzels, you’ve probably thought about grabbing a bite at the Blue Bayou Restaurant. Blue Bayou You’ll find this restaurant tucked into a corner of Disneyland’s New Orleans Square and it offers Cajun and Creole-inspired cuisine. We love this restaurant and it had been far too long since our last visit, so we knew we had to come in and enjoy some of their eats. Atmosphere Guess what? When you dine at Blue Bayou, you get to dine on the shore of a New Orleans bayou! That’s right! Also, it’s not just any bayou. It’s actually one where you can watch boats from Pirates of the Caribbean passing by while you fight your food coma from all the delicious Cajun and Creole foods. Blue Bayou The vibes are excellent. It totally has dark, moody lighting that 100% transports you to a New Orleans swamp at night. Truly a blue bayou! You’ll find that you’re eating in a courtyard. There are wrought-iron chairs and hanging paper lanterns overhead. Seating Pro-tip: If you want the “best” views while you eat, make sure to request a table by the water when you check in. (It’s not guaranteed that they can accommodate, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.) You can get great views of Pirates of the Caribbean Now that you can feel the atmosphere, let’s have a look at the menu. Menu As we said, there is an entire world of Cajun and Creole-inspired dishes on this menu for you to enjoy. For starters, some of the standouts are the Chicken Gumbo and the Heirloom Tomato & Watermelon Salad. Blue Bayou menu You’ll definitely find filling entrĂ©es here like a Blackened Ribeye, Oscar-style Filet Mignon, Sustainable Market Fish, Creole Roasted Chicken, and a Pistachio Lemon-Basil Pasta. Also, you’ll find a decent selection of wine, cocktails, beer, and a few non-alcoholic drinks as well. You’ll find plenty of hearty eats as well as cocktails For dessert, you can choose from a CrĂšme BrĂ»lĂ©e Tart, Chocolate Basque Cheesecake, Petite Sundae, and Assorted Macarons. Dessert menu The kids menu at Blue Bayou is pretty straightforward (really not too much to write home about) but sometimes you can’t beat a simple menu for the kiddos. Kids Menu Alright, enough reading about food. It’s time to eat! Eats Ultimately, we decided to try the Heirloom Tomato and Watermelon Salad as our starter, the Pistachio Lemon-Basil Pasta as our entrĂ©e, and the CrĂšme BrĂ»lĂ©e Tart as our dessert. Let’s start with the Heirloom Tomato and Watermelon Salad which is made with Greens, Agave Crema, and Pickled Watermelon Rind & Shallot Vinaigrette and will set you back by $15. Heirloom Tomato and Watermelon Salad What we liked most about this was how light and refreshing it was. Everything tasted really fresh especially the tomatoes and greens. The tomatoes were juicy, sweet, and full of flavor. The shallot vinaigrette wasn’t the most special (it just added a tangy and vinegary taste). Refreshing! Also, the watermelon didn’t have a whole lot of flavor and there wasn’t much of it in the salad either. Next, we set our eyes on the Pistachio Lemon-Basil Pasta, which is made with Asparagus, Squash Blossoms, Pea Tendrils, and Cherry Tomatoes in Pistachio-Basil Pesto and will cost you $29. Pistachio Lemon-Basil Pasta This dish was simple and tasty. The pasta was cooked perfectly and had hints of basil and light lemon flavor throughout. It was also a generous portion of pasta. This was a surprising winner! The pistachio flavor wasn’t the strongest. You could really only taste it if you happened to get a bite that had some of the chopped-up pistachio that was put on top. The cherry tomatoes added a refreshing and sweet flavor to the pasta. Oh how we wish there were more of them! Last but not least, we had to entertain our sweet tooth with a CrĂšme BrĂ»lĂ©e Tart which was Vanilla Bean CrĂšme BrĂ»lĂ©e in a Tart Shell and it’ll run you $10. CrĂšme BrĂ»lĂ©e Tart The berries were sweet and fresh which went well with the rich vanilla bean flavor. The top did have a caramel and burnt sugar taste. The tart shell tasted like shortbread and had a crumbly shortbread texture. DELICIOUS! We seriously wished the portion was larger because it was delicious and at $10 we felt a little slighted. Overall Overall, we loved our time here. Our server was great (very personable, quick, and helpful). All of our food came out quickly and it was all fresh and well prepared. Blue Bayou is truly unique The restaurant’s location and ambiance are some of the best on the property. It’s definitely one of the pricier options at Disneyland, but for the experience and food quality, it’s worth doing at least once. Nosh or Not? Stop by Blue Bayou if
You want to get away from the crowds and have a nice and relaxing meal. Celebrating a special occasion and wanting your meal in one of the best-themed restaurants. You’re a Pirates of the Caribbean fan since the boats travel right through the restaurant (also it’s one of the last projects Walt worked on) You’ll probably want to find another place to dine if
You’re looking to dine on a tighter budget. You want a quick meal. You have little kids and want to take them somewhere with a more substantial kids’ menu. We’re always looking for all the latest menu changes and additions to restaurants around Disneyland so we can keep you updated. Until then, stay tuned with us at Disney Food Blog for even more! 12. Since we are in the park every day, we have our fair share of stories and experiences. Today was no different as we experienced a rare occurrence while onboard the Resort Monorail. Monorail The Disney World Transportation system is extensive and can help you get pretty much anywhere on Disney World Resort property. There are three different monorail lines including the EPCOT Monorail, Express Monorail, and the Resort Monorail. The Resort Monorail runs in the opposite direction of the Magic Kingdom Express Monorail, and makes stops at the Transportation and Ticket Center, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Magic Kingdom, and Disney’s Contemporary Resort. While we were in the parks today, we hopped on Monorail Coral on the Resort Monorail loop, and much to our surprise we lost power while we were sitting in the Magic Kingdom station! It was sudden and everything turned off, including the AC in the monorail. Good news is that we were still sitting in the station, but bad news is that all the doors were closed and it was a hot day. Monorail However, it ended up only lasting for a few minutes and we were told by a Cast Member that it was just a reset while we were sitting in the station. We were surprised that we weren’t told anything, but within a few minutes, everything was back to working and once the new passengers boarded from Magic Kingdom, we were on our way! While it was unexpected, everything was resolved quickly and we got back to our day. We are letting you know about our experience to encourage you not to panic when things go a bit off course at Disney World. If you happen to be on a monorail when it loses power, know that it may just be a reset and it should be back up and running soon. It would have been easy to jump to the worst scenario that we would be stuck on this monorail forever in the heat. However, Cast Members were on the platform and aware of the situation. We lost power! You will probably run into at least a few moments of surprise while you are at Disney World. It could be your monorail losing power, or your favorite ride being temporarily closed. Try your best not to let these surprises ruin your day. Let them happen and then you can always store them up as a story to entertain others. Disney World transportation can get a bit confusing. Where exactly does the monorail go? And what’s the best way to get to your destination? If you are feeling a bit overwhelmed, have no fear! We are here to help and we are sharing 22 secrets to getting around Disney World: You never know what may happen during your Disney World trip, but we are help to make sure you stay up to date and have all the best tips and tricks for your Disney World vacation. 14. Disney World can be quite the confusing place. Magic Kingdom Between all the construction going on for new attractions, EPCOT’s walls finally coming down as it completes its multi-year transformation (which you think would make things less confusing, but when you’ve gotten used to walls for so many years, it’s pretty jarring to have them all disappear), and the other changes that are happening nearly every day, we don’t blame you if you feel a little discombobulated. However, we ARE still laughing at these wildly funny things we’ve overheard in the Disney World parks. “Where’s The Harry Potter Stuff?” If we had a nickel for every time we heard about Harry Potter in Disney World, we’d probably have enough nickels to fill the cupboard under the stairs he lived in for 11 years. Fantasyland Many people visiting Orlando for the first time, or who haven’t been there in a while, commonly get Disney World and Universal confused. They are two completely different parks, and two completely different companies that own different sets of intellectual property. Hogwarts at Universal’s Islands of Adventure Universal owns Harry Potter, so you’ll find Harry Potter World and all the Harry Potter merchandise you can dream of over in Universal Orlando. Disney World, on the other hand, does not own any part of Harry Potter, so it would be a pretty big breach of the rules to have him and his IP in Disney World. Hogwarts Express in Universal’s Islands of Adventure While you and I may know this easily, we talk about it a lot on the blog because there are people out there who don’t know that they’re separate parks, and it can be really disappointing for them to realize that they won’t be able to see something they were really looking forward to on their Disney World trip. (Does it still make us giggle a little bit at the start though? Yes, yes it does.) Is Disney World accidentally paying for Universal’s massive theme park expansion? “Oh Look, It’s Tinker Bell!” Now this one really surprises some of us. Over in Disney’s Hollywood Studios you can meet Joy from Pixar’s Inside Out franchise. However, it seems that a lot of guests think she’s a completely different character. Joy at Pixar Plaza in Hollywood Studios! “But who else does Joy look like?” You may be asking. Fair question, but it appears that many guests think that Joy is actually Tinker Bell from Peter Pan. Hi, Tinker Bell! Well you can still see Tinker Bell fly over Cinderella Castle and Main Street USA at the end of the Happily Ever After fireworks show in Magic Kingdom, there’s currently no set way to meet Tinker Bell in Disney World. We have seen her in EPCOT before, but it seemed to be a one-off. However, you are still able to see her and wave hello in the Festival of Fantasy Parade that happens once or twice a day in Magic Kingdom, depending on when your trip is. Daffy Duck Again with the IP troubles — we’ve also heard many guests refer to our number one duck Donald as Daffy Duck. Donald and Daisy! Daffy Duck is a cartoon character now owned by Warner Brothers Studios, which again, is totally different from Disney. Just like with Harry Potter, Disney would get a lot of trouble if they had Daffy Duck in their parks, but having Donald Duck, whom they own the rights to, is no problem at all! Donaldo! What makes us especially giggle about this one is that, to us, the characters look nothing alike! Yes, they’re both ducks, but that’s about it. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Honestly, we overhear strange things in Disney World all the time, and we guarantee that you will too when you’re on vacation! Sometimes it’s someone telling someone in their travel party incorrect information about a ride, the history of the park, or it may be something that has nothing to do with Disney and you just walked by weird conversation. 15. Disney World food is amazing, wouldn’t you agree?! YASS corn dog nugs! From Dole Whips to Mickey-shaped
well everything, Disney World food is such a key part of the whole experience. That being said, the other day while we were walking through the parks, we started noticing something we weren’t expecting. We’re surprised we didn’t pick up on it earlier, but it appears there’s a trend that’s changing how people eat in Disney World! As we were saying, we noticed something on our latest Disney World trip — People are getting SMARTER about how they eat in the parks! It seems like gone are the days of people blindly dropping stacks on giant turkey legs (although those are still iconic). It appears that nowadays we’re all about maximizing our experience at Disney World without breaking the bank, and that means embracing some surprising food trends. Turkey Leg at Prince Eric’s Village Market Trend #1 — The Rise of the Kids Meal Don’t judge! (I see you) Hear me out about this one. Disney’s kid’s meals are often perfectly portioned for adults who aren’t looking to go into a food coma every single time they stop to eat. I mean, who wants to risk overeating constantly? Macaroni and Cheese Kids Meal Plus, these kids meals usually come with a drink and a side, and those sides tend to be healthier options, which makes it a total win. You get a decent meal that will fuel the rest of your day at the park and your wallet gets a win, too! This $7 Meal Is Our New Favorite Thing in Magic Kingdom Trend #2 — Quick Service FTW! Here’s the thing: Sometimes it feels like scoring a dining resvation is about as hard as winning the lottery these days, and it seems that Disney has caught on to that, which is why the Disney World quick-service options have been crushing it lately! Casey’s Corner Now, we’re not just talking about corn dogs and turkey legs (they’re still available though). Now we’re seeing some seriously creative and delicious opinions on the quick-service menus all around the parks. Think mouth-watering Ronto Wraps in Galaxy’s Edge

or totchos from Woody’s Lunch Box

or Mr. Kamal’s seasoned fries in Animal Kingdom. Mr. Kamal’s Fries My point is that you don’t have to break the bank or fight for an hour for a reservation to have a great meal at Disney World anymore. The 10 BEST Quick Service Restaurants in Magic Kingdom for 2024 Trend #3: Resort Hopping! This one might surprise you, but hear me out. Sometimes, the best food at Disney World isn’t even in the parks themselves! Many of the resorts boast incredible restaurants with diverse menus. ‘Ohana Plus, when you go to a Disney World resort, it’s a nice break from the park crowds. So, here’s what you’re going to want to do: hop on a monorail, a boat, the Skyliner, etc. The point is to go and explore places like the Polynesian’s ‘Ohana or the eateries at Animal Kingdom Lodge like Sanaa. Bread service at Sanaa I mean, the options you have available to you are endless. You might even imagine yourself escaping the crowds to have a relaxing poolside lunch, then be able to head back to the parks later on feeling refreshed and ready to conquer! Magic Kingdom So, next time you’re at Disney World, how about trying some of these trends? Grab a kids’ meal, embrace the quick service revolution, and don’t be afraid to venture out to the resorts for some seriously good eats. Your taste buds and your wallet will thank you! We’re in the Disney World parks every day of the week to track down the latest updates and spot the newest trends. Keep it right here at DFB for all the Disney news! 17. Most rules in Disney World are quite obvious, as they’re common sense, or the same rules you see at different theme parks around the world. EPCOT This includes things like no altercations with other guests or Cast Members, no jumping out of ride vehicles when you’’re ON the ride, and more simple things like no smoking, stealing, or wearing clothes that don’t cover the parts of you they should. But what happens if someone refuses to follow these rules? Disney has a lot of ways they keep their guests safe in the parks and avoid a lot of potential conflicts. The first is what you’ll encounter before you enter the parks — security screenings! Security Security can be a little annoying sometimes, especially when the lines are long, but it’s a very important part of the process to keep everyone safe. And, since 2020, the security process has gotten SO much quicker with the addition of the security checkpoints you just walk through. Now you’ll only need to get your bag checked if something in it is flagged. The lines can be LONG sometimes You may also see some K-9 friends with security outside the park gates just as an extra layer of security. We know it may be tempting to pet them, but remember that they’re working! And don’t worry, they get plenty of head scratches when they’re off the clock. ©Disney Security guards are also present around the parks, in uniforms you can easily recognize as well as in plainclothes (AKA dressed like regular guests). So even when you don’t “see” any security guards around, there are very likely some undercover ones around keeping an eye on things. Magic Kingdom Security Not to mention that there are security cameras ALL over the resort (except for the bathrooms and your hotel room, of course). Even if you can’t spot any, we promise there are security cameras around — some of them are hidden VERY well. Magic Kingdom So what happens if you break Disney’s rules? It depends on the severity of the rule break, but the least severe punishment is being kicked out of the parks for the day. However, guests who are more disruptive or break bigger rules may receive a longer ban, such as one that lasts a year. And, of course, the worst ban is a lifetime ban, which will span across all of Disney’s parks, hotels, and Disney Cruise Line. All-Star Sports You may have also heard of “Disney jail.” Now, this isn’t a real jail like the cells you see in Pirates of the Caribbean, nor is it a whole jail underneath the park. “Disney jail” is just the security office, but don’t be fooled — this is NOT where you want to end up. Especially because if your infraction was bad enough, the police may be there shortly to transfer you to ACTUAL jail. Magic Kingdom Thankfully, it’s very easy to stay on Disney’s good side, because most accidental rule breaks will just be met with a gentle reminder from Cast Members or security. Just do what the Cast Members tell you to do, ask questions if you’re confused about something, and if you’re questioning something, just err on the side of caution. Cinderella Castle We’re always here to help you plan for your next Disney World trip, including knowing the ins and outs of the rules, so stay tuned to DFB! 20. Genie+ is about to change in a BIG way. ©Disney A while back, we learned that the service was due for an update based on what Disney had shared in the past, and those updates will finally be rolling out in Disney World later this summer. While there are still plenty of questions on just how these new changes will work, we do have more details on what you can expect! As of July 24th, Genie+ will be known as Lightning Lane Multi-Pass, and Individual Lightning Lanes will be called Lightning Lane Single Pass. In addition to these changes, Disney has announced that as of July 24th, you can: Make Lightning Lane plans before you get to the parks, for added confidence. Choose your experiences and times prior to purchasing, so you know what you’re getting. Book Lightning Lane passes for multiple vacation days, all in a single day. Genie+ Lightning Lane Multi-Pass will work a lot like FastPass+, where you can make up to 3 Lightning Lane selections in a park in advance of your visit. Not only that, but you can choose available times as you make your selections. But, here’s the kicker — Disney has introduced (or reintroduced, shall we say) a tiered system for rides. It looks like out of those 3 advance selections, you’ll be able to choose one experience from a higher-tiered group and two experiences (or all three) from a lower-tiered group. Expedition Everest At Magic Kingdom, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, Space Mountain, and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure are all in the first tier. ©Disney At EPCOT, the first tier includes Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and Soarin’ Around the World. ©Disney At Hollywood Studios, the first tier features rides like Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, and Slinky Dog Dash. ©Disney And over at Animal Kingdom, there will be no tiers at all — meaning you’re free to choose any of the attractions available with Lightning Lane Multi-Pass as part of your 3 selections. Avatar Flight of Passage will still be available via Lightning Lane Single Pass (A.K.A. Individual Lightning Lane). ©Disney Disney World hotel guests (and guests of other select hotels) will be able to plan Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days in advance for their entire stay (up to 14 days). All other guests can plan up to 3 days in advance. Slinky Dog Dash Advance purchase windows will allow people to “secure some of their must-do rides and experiences after they’ve had some time to decide what dining reservations they want to book and any other plans they may need to consider.” You’ll be able to purchase a Multi-Pass, Single Pass, or both depending on what you need — and there will even be a new option to purchase both in one transaction. Of course, we’ll be bringing you all the latest updates you need to know about these new Lightning Lane changes along with letting you know how it all works once they officially roll out, so stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for more. FuelRods In the modern era of Walt Disney World vacations, there are few things more important than having a charged smartphone. Not only are the devices essential to staying in contact with your party and taking photos to your heart’s content, they’re also integral to a Disney vacation as – – for better or worse – – Disney has made apps an indispensable part of a trip to Walt Disney World. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. For years, Disney has partnered with FuelRod as their third party portable charger of choice. The company offers portable chargers that are dispensed by vending machines. When your charger runs out, you can simply “swap” it for another from the machine, and keep doing so until the end of your trip. You can then take your final FuelRod home and use it as typical, rechargeable phone charger. Casey’s Corner FuelRod Station FuelRod kiosks are located around Walt Disney World, including-but-not limited to locations at each of the resort’s four theme parks, as well as in several of the resort areas and Disney Springs. However, thanks to this deal on Amazon things may change. In Fact, You May Never Buy a FuelRod at Disney World Again. Amazon Right now, you can purchase a PAIR of FuelRods from Amazon for $34.99, which is essentially a 2-for-1 deal when compared to the price of a single FuelRod at the Walt Disney World Resort. 22. If you’re planning to set sail on the new Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Treasure, when it sets sail later this year or on a sailing next year, can we just say how EXCITED we are for you? ©Disney You may already be planning what type of room you’d like or where you’d like to stay on board. If you’re not though and you don’t care where you’re put, that’s great! Except for the fact that there are some very specific scenarios where you should be paying very close attention to where you’re booking — if these scenarios apply to you, here’s where NOT to book on the Disney Treasure. Seasickness If you or someone in your party struggles with seasickness, you’ll want to be very particular with where your stateroom is. This is because the further on the front and back of the ship you are, as well as the higher you get, the more you’ll feel the boat rocking and moving. ©Disney To avoid the potential of seasickness, you’ll want to book a stateroom in the middle of the ship on the lowest possible deck. While this puts you closer to the water line, it will diminish the amount of movement you feel. We do also recommend bringing anti motion/seasickness medicine on board in whatever form is most comfortable for you to be safe — the last thing you want is to feel gross on your vacation! If You’re Claustrophobic If you, again, or someone in your party, has issues with claustrophobia or feeling trapped, then getting an indoor stateroom is the LAST thing you should do. ©Disney Now, some of the Disney Cruise Line ships have magic portholes that show a live feed of what’s happening outside, but from some of the concept art we’ve seen of some inside staterooms on the Disney Treasure, some of of them may not have these “windows.” And to avoid panic and stress on vacation, we’d recommend spending the extra money to get a stateroom that has a view or access to outside. NO Elevators! This one really goes for anyone, but especially those of you who are sensitive to noise or will be traveling with young kids who wake up easily — we recommend getting a room FAR away from the elevators. Disney Magic Elevator The stairs are typically right near the elevators too, so in the mornings and evenings EVERYONE will have to travel past your room to get up or down the ship, and that can get noisy really fast. We recommend booking a room that’s at least 5-6 rooms away from the elevators, just to diminish as much sound as possible. NO Access To Outside If You Have Young Kids Lastly, in a complete opposite recommendation to the second point on this list, if you’ll be traveling with kids who are old enough to know how to open a door but maybe aren’t old enough to grasp how dangerous it is to be out on a ship’s balcony above the ocean, getting a verandah stateroom is NOT the move. ©Disney The railings on these verandahs are pretty high, but some kids like to climb, and if it’s nighttime, your kid can’t sleep and they want to go outside and can unlock the door — you see where we’re going with this. It’s scary to think about, so maybe just book a room that has a window outside, but doesn’t allow any access. ©Disney We can’t wait to set sail on this ship in December of this year, and you know we’ll be bringing you all the details from on board, so stay tuned to DFB! 23. Disney Genie+ is changing in some very big ways on July 24th, 2024. Lightning Lane at Expedition Everest Genie+ is a paid service that reduces your wait times for attractions at Disney World and at Disneyland Resort. You buy Genie+ in the My Disney Experience App, and it allows you to book windows to ride your favorite ride using the Lightning Lane — which has shorter waits than the typical standby lines. In addition, you can buy Individual Lightning Lanes for certain rides — where you pay to book a specific window to ride that one ride (there’s a list of those “individual” rides right here). Today, we’ve learned of a BIG CHANGE coming to Disney Genie+! Disney has announced that, well, we’ll no longer calling it Disney Genie+ at all! The service is getting a new name — two in fact. Disney Genie+ will now be called Lightning Lane Multi Pass. And Individual Lightning Lanes will now be called Lightning Lane Single Pass. Lightning Lane at Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway As we said, this change takes effect on July 24th. But, there’s more! With Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you will now be able to book up to 3 Lightning Lanes in advance of your visit. This is the way FastPass+ used to work (except it was free and not paid) before that program was ended and Genie+ was introduced! The revamped program will bring back the advance selections previously allowed under FastPass+. Now, the advance selections will only be available at Disney World — at Disneyland, Lightning Lane Multi Pass will continue to work the way Genie+ does now. In addition, Disney said people staying at Disney World hotels (or other select resorts) will be able to make their Lightning Lane selections up to 7 days in advance for their entire stay up to 14 days. If you’re not staying in a Disney World hotel, you will be able to make your selections up to 3 days in advance. Magic Kingdom Disney said the new names — Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass — are simpler and will be easier to understand. These changes are a reflection of promises Disney made last year to fans to bring back a way to plan more of their day in advance. Rest assured our team will be testing out the new system as soon as it is available (starting July 24th), so keep following us here at DFB for complete coverage! 24. Just when we thought we had gotten the hang of this whole Genie+ thing, Disney goes and switches things up on us! Genie+ We knew that the service was due for an update based on what Disney has said in the past, we just didn’t know when. Disney shared that we’d soon have a way to plan Lightning Lanes ahead of time — before even stepping foot in the parks — and now we have an update on those changes! BIG changes are coming to Genie+ at Disney World! First things first — starting on July 24th, Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes are out, and Lightning Lane Multi-Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass are in. That’s right! There’s been an official name change. ©Disney Genie+ is now Lightning Lane Multi-Pass and Individual Lightning Lanes are now Lightning Lane Single Pass. Disney shared a bit more about how these changes will be implemented come July 24th, so let’s get into it. Lightning Lane Multi-Pass When purchasing Lightning Lane Multi-Pass, you can make up to 3 Lightning Lane selections in a park in advance of your visit. Not only that, but you can choose available times as you make your selections. Attraction Sign at Animal Kingdom directing Guests to Standby Line and Lightning Lane Entrances On the day of your visit, once you use a selection, you can make another one based on what is still available on the My Disney Experience app, just as you would now. Lightning Lane Single Pass Lightning Lane Single Pass will effectively function as it does now, with the added bonus that you can make your purchase before your trip and plan in advance. Tower of Terror Lightning Lane sign Planning Ahead Disney World hotel guests (and guests of other select hotels) will be able to plan Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days in advance for their entire stay (up to 14 days). All other guests can plan up to 3 days in advance. Disney Genie+ allows you to book the Lightning Lane for rides. Advance purchase windows will allow people to “secure some of their must-do rides and experiences after they’ve had some time to decide what dining reservations they want to book and any other plans they may need to consider.” You’ll be able to purchase a Multi-Pass, Single Pass, or both depending on what you need — and there will even be a new option to purchase both in one transaction. TRON Lightcycle / RUN Lighting Lane Disney has introduced (or reintroduced, shall we say) a tiered system for rides. It looks like out of those 3 advance selections, you’ll be able to choose one experience from a higher-tiered group and two experiences (or all three) from a lower-tiered group. At Magic Kingdom, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, Space Mountain, and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure are all in the first tier. ©Disney Disney shared that the new Lightning Lane passes “will blend features from our current services and the previously offered FastPass+ service, giving guests the choice to plan ahead and removing the hassle of planning during their vacation.” You can check out a video of how it will work below: We’ll be on the lookout for even more changes coming to Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes — or Multi-Pass and Single Pass now — so make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest updates! 25. Getting Oogie Boogie Bash tickets was an adventure. Oogie Boogie Disneyland Resort’s Oogie Boogie Bash — the resort’s premier Halloween event — begins on August 25th this year and transforms Disneyland into a spooky party. Tickets went on sale for some Magic Key holders today (June 25th), but getting them was not a smooth process! Several dates SOLD OUT incredibly quickly. Ticket sales for the 2024 Oogie Boogie Bash are staggered, with Inspire Magic Key holders having access to tickets on June 25th, other Magic Key holders on June 26th, and finally the general public on June 27th. In theory, that should have made the ticket-buying practice easy. In reality, it was a bit of a roller coaster. We logged on right on time on June 25th
only to encounter Disney’s system apparently running late. When we finally got in, we were given an estimated wait time queue. Pretty standard so far. However, it was once that ended that things began to get wonky. The waiting is the hardest part
Tickets for certain party nights were selling out very quickly, with October 13th being the first to show as sold out. Meanwhile, we were trying for opening night — August 25th — which was still showing tickets available but wasn’t allowing us to select them. After securing tickets for August 27th, we decided to experiment a bit and refresh the page. Now, August 25th, as well as September 15th, 22nd, 6th, and 12th were registering as sold out. The status of dates was fluctuating with every refresh However, after ANOTHER refresh, Sept 15th and 22nd were once again showing tickets available, but now September 29th, Oct 3rd, 6th, 10th, 13th, and 17th were all showing as sold out. Ooogie Boogie Dates The moral of the story? If you’re trying for Oogie Boogie Bash tickets, keep refreshing as there definitely seem to be some bugs in Disney’s system. Here’s to hoping they’re worked out before the next two sales over the next few days. It’s possible that Disney has reserved just a certain portion of all available tickets for the first night (and other nights) for Magic Key holders, so the general public will still have a chance to buy tickets for those dates when they go on sale on June 27th. We’ll be watching for more updates over the next couple of days! Stay tuned to DFB for further Oogie Boogie coverage. Heads Up! We Are WEEKS Away From Disney’s Biggest. News. Ever.
