This may be the MERRIEST news we have all year! Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime Parade Last holiday season, we saw the return of Magic Kingdom’s holiday party at Disney World in its original party form (and not as an After Hours event as it had been the previous year due to capacity restrictions from the pandemic). Now, we’ve got the details on what you can expect at the 2024 Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! This year, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party will take place on 25 select nights from November 8th through December 20th, 2024! Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Map This is a special ticketed event that takes place after the park closes to normal guests. So, you’ll need to purchase a different type of party ticket to attend, separate from your theme park admission. Here’s when the party dates are happening this season: November: 8th, 11th, 12th, 14th, 15th, 17th, 19th, 21st, 22nd, 24th, 26th, 27th, and 29th December: 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th, 13th, 15th, 17th, 19th, and 20th Last year’s return to familiar party favorites was a blast! In 2023 we saw the return of Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration stage show, Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks, and the Once Upon A Christmastime Parade. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (2019) We’re thrilled to hear that Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration Stage Show is returning! This holiday spectacle takes place at Cinderella Castle and stars Mickey Mouse along with other beloved Disney characters all celebrating the magic of the holiday season with classic tunes and incredible performances. The show takes place four times each night, beginning at 7:40PM, 9:25PM, 10:35PM, and 11:55PM. Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration stage show (2022) We’ll also be welcoming back Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks! This dazzling fireworks show includes castle projections, fireworks, and seasonal songs. We’ve seen this version of fireworks for the last few years since the holiday party’s return and think it’s been a great updated addition to the party. This nighttime spectacular takes place at 10PM each evening at the event. Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks (2022) The beloved Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade is also coming back! The parade is very popular because it features Santa Claus, Mickey Mouse, the flying reindeer, and toy soldiers. It even has some of the best holiday scents from some of the parade floats! It takes place each party night at 8:30PM and 11PM. Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade (2022) Just like at previous parties, you’ll be able to enjoy complimentary cookies and hot cocoa at various stops around Magic Kingdom. Cookies & Hot Cocoa Holiday overlays at some of the park rides and attractions will be returning too, exclusively for the party! These overlays will be taking over attractions such as Space Mountain, with holiday tunes and festive lighting, ‘Tomorrowland Speedway Race Through the Holidays’, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor hosting a seasonal show, and Mad Tea Party featuring holiday combos of lights and music as a special treat to partygoers. You’ll also be able to enjoy the Jingle Cruise at night during the party — but you can also enjoy this one during the day at Magic Kingdom since it’s a seasonal overlay! Tomorrowland Speedway during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Even the tiniest of party attendees can get their groove on! Join an intergalactic dance party at Club Tinsel at Rockettower Plaza Stage in Tomorrowland. If you’re familiar with Disney Junior characters, you can find them over at the Disney Junior Jingle Jam inside Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café to capture some adorable meet-and-greets and photos. And you can catch Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff, and the snowgies turning Cinderella Castle into a frozen wonderland at 8:15PM on event nights. A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas Don’t forget to capture your holiday spirit in photo form with these pop-up photo ops around the Magic Kingdom! You’ll want to check the party guide maps for their exact locations. And of course, there will also be special meet and greet opportunities with Disney characters decked out in their finest holiday attire. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Photo-op Tickets will be on sale beginning July 2nd, 2024, for all guests of select Walt Disney World Resort hotels, for event dates during their stay. And for all other guests, tickets will be available on July 10th, 2024. Tickets will cost between $169 and $219 per person, with prices varying depending on the date selected. You’ll be able to purchase these tickets online through the My Disney Experience app and website once they’re available. Can you believe we’re only days away from the grand opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom? Tiana’s Bayou Adventure It’s been a long time coming, and though we’ve already had an opportunity to check out the new ride — we can’t wait for it to officially open! As part of the celebration, Disney announced new souvenirs, entertainment, and of course, snacks to welcome Tiana’s and we’re checking a few of those eats out right now! It’s official, y’all — Tiana’s Famous Beignets are BACK! These are light, sweet, and fluffy beignets with powdered sugar and drizzled with honey. You can grab them for $6.99. Okay, we really wanted to like these because they look so much different than what we had with the croissant beignets that were here before, and we did! They are much larger — much more built like a true beignet, and they’ve got powdered sugar for days all over them. They are served as three in a container per serving, and they are loaded with honey drizzled all over the top of them, too. They are going to be a little bit different tasting than what you can get at Port Orleans, for example, but they’re more of a true fried beignet versus more of a softer breading beignet. BEIGNETS! We also tried the Hot Honey Chicken with Sweet Potato Fries consisting of chicken nuggets tossed in hot sauce-honey served with New Orleans olive relish and Cajun-spiced sweet potato fries for $11.99. The hot honey chicken wasn’t truly a mind-blowing entrée for us. There’s a little bit more seasoning on these tenders than what you might expect from a normal order, and instead of regular fries, you get sweet potato fries which have a seasoned salt that kind of reminded us of Old Bay Seasoning. It gave it a nice almost cajun kick to it, but if you’re somebody who enjoys a sweet potato smothered in marshmallows and candy, pecans, caramel, and all those extra kinds of drizzles, you might not like the plain, more savory version of the sweet potato fries. Hot Honey Chicken with Sweet Potato Fries And of course, it wouldn’t be Tiana’s without gumbo! The Shrimp Gumbo with Sweet Potato Fries features Shrimp and Andouille sausage gumbo topped with Cajun-spiced sweet potato fries for $11.99. The shrimp gumbo is not so bad itself. But keep in mind, the gumbo here is more of vegetable gumbo with a little bit of that Andouille sausage and tiny bits of shrimp. There’s a lot more celery and more spice to this one which we do appreciate, and it’s a little soupier than other gumbos we’ve had. It had spice to it, but not a huge kick so if you’re spice-averse you might still like this! Shrimp Gumbo with Sweet Potato Fries To wash it all down, we grabbed the Frozen Bayou Lavender Lemonade made with Minute Maid Premium Lemonade and lavender syrup for $6.29. The lemonade is one of the best slushies we’ve ever had in Disney World and that’s truly saying something! The lavender is pumped at the bottom so it gives it a purple tint when it sits just above the Minute Maid lemonade slush and boy is it good! It’s not overbearing. It’s not super prevalent. You’ll get a hint of it and then the sprig of lavender in the top with the lemon wedge is just right so it’s a really nice, fresh drink that truly has a nice floral undertone to it and kind of gives a new personality to a generic lemonade slush drink. Frozen Lavender Lemonade Tiana’s Bayou Adventure picks up the story of The Princess and the Frog “after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.” It officially opens on June 28th, though you might want to brace yourself if you’re planning on visiting to ride soon after — the attraction has been having some issues staying afloat. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure The ride will be available via a virtual queue when it officially opens, and it will also be part of Disney Genie+ when it opens. That means this ride will NOT have an individual (or a la carte) Lightning Lane. To ride, you’ll be able to purchase Genie+ for Magic Kingdom (or get the multi-park Genie+ option) and reserve a Lightning Lane for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. NEW summer menu items just arrived at Starbucks, and you know we HAD to try them out! New Starbucks Drinks We’ve already tried out some of Starbucks’ summer menu, including a drink that tasted EXACTLY like our childhood. But now it’s time for round two, as Starbucks has released a few new drinks, a new sweet cream, and some new snacks. Let’s check them out! We visited the Main Street Bakery at Magic Kingdom (that’s this park’s Starbucks location) to try out a couple of the new drinks. Main Street Bakery We tried to get the new Cinnamon Crumble Oatmilk Frappuccino, but a Cast Member informed us that Starbucks has rolled back this drink for a limited time in order to resolve an issue they’re having with the ingredients. But it should be available soon! Instead, we got a couple of the new Iced Energy drinks! These are made with iced tea and sparkling fruit flavors and have no sugar. They’re available in the flavors Tropical Citrus (205 mg caffeine) and Melon Burst (180 mg caffeine), and there’s a frozen one, too: the Frozen Tropical Citrus Iced Energy with Strawberry Puree. The Melon Burst Energy Drink was $6.49, and the Frozen Tropical Citrus drink was $7.79. The Melon Burst drink was…not our favorite. Melon Burst Iced Energy Drink It wasn’t very sweet at all, and yet it had an aftertaste that reminded us of an artificial sweetener. It wasn’t quite sweet enough to actually be that, though, so really it just tasted sort of medicinal. Maybe it came from the caffeine delivery product? Whatever it is, we weren’t fans. Melon Burst Iced Energy Drink However, we did enjoy the Frozen Tropical Citrus drink! This one has less caffeine and is sweeter than the Melon Burst one. Frozen Tropical Citrus Iced Energy Drink The main reason why it’s sweeter is the addition of that strawberry puree. We thought that made this drink 1000% better than the Melon Burst one. The frozen drink is also great for a warm day, especially if you’re walking around Magic Kingdom in the heat! Frozen Tropical Citrus Iced Energy Drink These new drinks aren’t the only updates to Starbucks’ menu! There is now a new non-dairy vanilla sweet cream available to add to your cold brew drinks. ©Starbucks Also, you can try some new eats! The Egg, Pesto, and Mozzarella Sandwich has been added to the savory menu, and you can grab a Blueberry Streusel Muffin as well. ©Starbucks Looking for these items in Disney World? In 2024, there will be a few NEW characters joining the event! Check out a full list here. Disney has released lots of essential details about the 2024 Jollywood Nights event! Here at DFB, we love McDonald’s almost as much as we love all things Disney. McDonald’s And, we’re particularly big fans of when Disney and McDonald’s bring us new Happy Meal Toys! But, that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate a good non-Disney Happy Meal Toy, too, especially when it celebrates some of our other favorite animated characters. That’s exactly the case with the NEW Happy Meal Toys that just rolled out at McDonald’s! NEW Despicable Me 4 Happy Meal Toys have landed at McDonald’s! Each Happy Meal features a tiny little Minion figurine, each with their own characteristics and more. ©McDonald’s There are 10 different minion toys in total and each toy comes with an exclusive mission card that tells you a little more about your minion! Plus, the toys can be mixed and matched so you can change out their outfits and collect them all. ©McDonald’s We don’t know about you, but we think Gru, the girls, and the minions make perfect sense for a Happy Meal collaboration. You can catch Despicable Me 4 in theaters near you on July 3rd — and maybe celebrate with some McDonald’s while you’re at it! ©McDonald’s You can also visit Minion Land at Universal Studios Orlando! This newly opened land features rides, restaurants, and more. Plus, you can stop by Bake My Day to get Minion-themed treats and merchandise. It’s a GREAT time to be a millennial Disney fan! Disney Channel fans, this is for YOU! Not only did we get to experience an entirely new Disney Channel Nite event, with old throwbacks to Kim Possible, Hannah Montana, and even The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, but we’ve also got the sneaking suspicion that a sequel one of our favorite films of the early 2000s (which was a remake itself) is closer than we might think! A while back, we learned that a Freaky Friday sequel was in the works based on the 2003 Disney film starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan — and now, we have an update! The film is officially in production with a projected release date of sometime in 2025. Walt Disney Studios shared a photo of “The Colemans” — Curtis and Lohan — on the movie’s set! The original cast will be joined by newcomers Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Sophia Hammons with Nisha Ganatra directing. As of now, Disney hasn’t released any details about what we might see happen in the sequel, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for updates. Alright, it’s time to get it out there. I’ve got BEEF with the Orlando Airport, and it needs to be addressed. Orlando Airport If you’re going to Disney World soon, you’re probably either driving or flying there. And if you’re flying, there’s a good chance you’re flying into the Orlando International Airport (MCO). Because I live pretty far away from Orlando, I usually fly, and I always go through MCO. Over several times going through that airport, I’ve developed two major gripes with it, and I need to tell you about them so that you’re not caught unaware. Here are the two reasons why I have BEEF with the Orlando Airport. Reason #1: Teleportation Doesn’t Exist So I guess it’s not technically the Orlando Airport’s fault that teleportation doesn’t exist yet. But the fact that I can’t just snap my fingers and appear at my Disney World hotel means that I must instead rely on one of the transportation options to get from the Orlando Airport to my hotel. And each of those transportation options presents its own issues and struggles. Mears Connect Mears Connect is the replacement service for Magical Express. Magical Express used to be a free shuttle between the airport and Disney World hotels, but now this service goes by the name Mears Connect and is (1) no longer Disney-themed and (2) no longer free. Mears Connect The same folks who ran Magical Express back in the day now run Mears Connect, so they certainly know what they’re doing, but I miss the days when it was free. Now, it costs $13 each way for kids and $16 each way for adults for the standard service. For the express service, you’ll pay $238.10 roundtrip for up to four people and an additional $52.38 per person for five or more people. That express service gets you roundtrip, direct service to your hotel and back to the airport with limited to no wait time. Mears Connect bus Mears Connect offers 24/7 services at the MCO main terminals and C terminal, and it goes to both Disney-owned and non-Disney hotels. One of its big advantages over rideshares like Uber and Lyft is that there’s no surge pricing — the price is always the same, no matter the time of year or day. Sometimes they even offer seasonal deals so you can get an even better price. Mears Connect Desk Possibly the biggest disadvantage, however, is that the buses make a lot of different stops around Disney World (unless you get the express service, which is much more expensive), so it might be over an hour until you actually get to your hotel. There have also been some reports of buses just not showing up at all for the ride from your hotel back to the airport, though those seem to be somewhat rare. Still, it’s a good idea to have a backup plan since it has happened. Mears Connect Bus Another advantage that I’ve observed is that the Mears Connect drivers are very friendly and helpful. On one occasion, my mom and I had booked a stay at the new-ish Drury Plaza Hotel near Disney Springs. When we realized that Mears Connect doesn’t stop there, we booked our stop at B Resort & Spa, which is just across the street, and planned to walk over. Drury Plaza Hotel near Disney Springs On the way to the hotel, our driver asked us if we were actually staying at Drury. Apparently, a lot of people had had the same idea as us! Rather than having us walk over, the driver just dropped us off at Drury, which was very kind of him. Obviously, this might not be the case or even be possible all the time, but it was a good example of the excellent service provided by Mears Connect. Step-by-Step Guide: How To Get to Disney World from the Orlando Airport Lynx Shuttle Route Why pay $16 when you could pay just $2? You can take the public Lynx bus from the airport to Disney Springs (this new route just debuted recently and is called Link311), and it literally costs $2. It runs seven days a week, every 30 minutes between 5AM and 11PM. The drop-off/pick-up point at the airport is outside the main terminal on the lower airport arrivals level. But there are a couple of issues you should know about before you go this route. Lynx bus First, the bus takes you to Disney Springs rather than to your hotel, which means you still have to get from the Springs to your hotel. The drop-off/pick-up point is the Westside bus loop at Disney Springs. So you will either need to take a Disney bus to your hotel or use a rideshare like Uber or Lyft. That rideshare will likely cost between $7 and $12, depending on the time of day. Inside the bus If you brought luggage, you need to take that into account, too. You might not be able to get on a Disney bus with that luggage. I’ve seen people get mixed results when they’ve tried to bring a suitcase on a Disney bus, but technically (at least sometimes) suitcases are not allowed. You’ll also need to bring that luggage through security if you’re transferring from the Lynx bus to a Disney one, which might mean your bags will be searched (adding more time to your trip). Lynx Bus If you opt for the rideshare option to get to your hotel, you can avoid any potential luggage issues. Plus, the rideshare pick-up and drop-off area is located on the same side of Disney Springs as the Lynx bus stop, so you don’t have to deal with security since you won’t actually need to walk through the Springs. So although the Disney bus option is free, it might be worth the extra cost to use a rideshare in this situation. The Lynx bus our reporter rode was clean, comfortable, and air-conditioned, and the trip between the airport and Disney Springs took about an hour. 2 Reasons the $2 Bus from the Orlando Airport to Disney World Isn’t the Hack Everyone Thinks It Is Rideshare Skipping the buses altogether, you might want to use one of the rideshare services, like Uber or Lyft. But these can come with their own set of headaches. The biggest downside of rideshare services is surge pricing. Sometimes the price to get from the airport to Disney World is less than $40 (which means it could be cheaper than Mears Connect if you’re sharing the car with a few other people and splitting the cost), but other times I’ve seen it soar well over $60. During busy times, like around lunch or rush hour, those prices go way up. Rideshare Sign The only way to get around this problem is to plan your arrival and departure times so they’re not during a busy time of day for traffic. Keep an eye on the rideshare prices around Orlando before your vacation so you can get an idea of the best times to book. If you plan on using a rideshare service, make sure you have the app downloaded and your account created before you arrive at the airport in order to avoid delays. ©Uber Rideshares are very convenient for a few reasons. For one thing, you get to go straight to your own hotel without other stops in between, so they’re usually faster than Mears Connect or Lynx. You also don’t have to share your vehicle with other passengers (unless you choose the carpool option), which is nice. Get more details about how to Uber to Disney World here! Reason #2: It’s WAY Too Easy To Get Lost If I had a nickel for every time I got lost in the Orlando airport, I’d have at least a handful of nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happens so many times even though I travel there so frequently. I will be the first to admit that I’m notoriously bad with directions, but in this case, I think the airport has to take some accountability, too. Orlando International Airport The Orlando airport is HUGE, and if you don’t know where you’re going (or even sometimes if you THINK you know where you’re going), you can get lost very easily. I’m used to the Louisville, KY, airport, which is absolutely tiny compared to MCO. You’ll need to navigate a few different floors and possibly different terminals. Here’s a quick look at the Terminal A/B building… ©Orlando Airport …and another at Terminal C. ©Orlando Airport Once you get to the airport from your destination, you’ll need to take the Gate Link (a Monorail-type transportation service) from the gate buildings to one of those Terminal buildings. The Gate Links typically come every few minutes, and the ride only takes about a minute, so it’s not a big time suck. Gate Link Station You’ll arrive on Level 3 of the terminal A/B building. From there, you’ll need to go down to Level 2 for baggage claim and then Level 1 for ground transportation. Orlando International Airport Rideshare transportation is located on Level 2 (along with private car transportation if someone you know is picking you up), but rental cars, shuttles, taxis, and Mears Connect are on Level 1. For Mears Connect, you’ll need to walk all the way down the hallway on Level 1, past the Starbucks kiosk and rental car desks, to reach the buses. Follow the signs On the way back home, after you go through security, you’ll be taking that same Gate Link Monorail thing to your gate. Make sure you get on the right one! Check the signs over the Gate Link stop to make sure your airline is on there. I have definitely taken the wrong shuttle and had to go back and get on the right one. It didn’t take a ton of time (because it’s such a quick trip between the gates and the main Terminal building), but it was annoying. When in doubt, you should always follow the signs you see around the airport. Don’t hesitate to ask an employee for help if you’re really lost. There are a BUNCH of new updates at Disney’s Boardwalk! Disney’s BoardWalk Inn There are changes happening constantly around Disney World. Some are large, like a newly re-themed ride that’s opening later this week. However others can be small — things around the resort’s parks and hotels that some visitors might not even notice, and even the most seasoned Disney experts may only clock them after a few moments. Recently, we noticed several updates while strolling Disney’s BoardWalk Resort. The BoardWalk Inn & Villas, which originally opened in 1996, has long been one of Disney’s most intricately themed, and “explorable” resorts, given the fact that it has a fully-functioning boardwalk area complete with shops and restaurants that are open to the general public in addition to the resort’s guests. When we arrived recently, we were greeted by new Mickey and Minnie topiaries! Mickey and Minnie Topiaries One of the largest updates we noticed — and possibly our favorite — was that this decorative “Crest O’ The Wave” facade work was completed. The gorgeous design captures the seaside charm of northeastern shore architecture of the early 20th century, which fits right into Boardwalk’s overall theme and motif. Isn’t it gorgeous? Work seems to be continuing at a fevered pace on the construction of the Cake Bake Shop Restaurant and Bakery. The new restaurant promises to be a location where you’ll be able to “find counters lined with handmade cakes that are one-of-a-kind in beauty and taste, attractively displayed on French porcelain platters topped with glass domes.” This restaurant still doesn’t have an official opening date beyond “Coming Soon”, but it seems like work is chugging along at a quick pace. Read our review of a different Cake Bake Shop restaurant location here! Cake Bake Shop Construction Down the boardwalk, we have Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs. The construction walls that were previously around this spot came down a while ago, but it hasn’t opened and there doesn’t seem to be anything outwardly hinting that it will open anytime soon. When we asked a Cast Member when it would be opening, they cheekily responded “last October.” Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs Finally, we made some dining notes that may be of use to you on your next trip: BoardWalk Joe’s Marvelous Margarita’s does accept Disney Dining Plan (DDP) snack credits for pretzels, nachos, DOLE Whip, and non-alcoholic smoothies. Nearly every item in the Screen Door General Store’s treat case is eligible for snack credits, except candied apples that are heavily decorated or covered in chocolate. Packed Main Street Popcorn snacks are also newly eligible for snack credits. Martha’s Vineyard accepts neither quick service nor table service DDP credits. The Screen Door treat case. While none of these small changes are headline grabbers in and of themselves, each of them affects the overall guest experience at the BoardWalk, even if you don’t notice at first. Are you planning a trip to Disney World in 2025? There are some changes you need to know about! Magic Kingdom Disney World is ALWAYS changing and we can promise you right now that 2025 will be no exception. With ride changes on the horizon and new perks coming our way, there are already a lot of moving parts for next year that we know about halfway through 2024. In fact, Disney has already announced a couple of major rule changes that will affect your 2025 Disney World trip! Earlier this year, Disney announced two rule changes that will affect how you will tackle Disney World in 2025. Let’s take a look at these changes and what you need to know about each! New Disney World Hotel Cancellation Policy Beginning in 2025, Disney World is changing its hotel cancellation policy. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort The new policy states that 2025 arrivals for room-only Disney World hotel reservations can cancel their reservations UP TO EIGHT (8) DAYS before their arrival without penalty. Art of Animation Prior to 2025, hotel reservations could be canceled up to five days before to avoid penalty. The new change is more restricting for Disney World hotel guests, taking away three days that used to be allocated in that cancellation window. Now, if you cancel 0-7 days out from the reservation, your deposit (the cost of a one-night stay) will be forfeited. So make sure you keep this in mind when booking your 2025 vacation. Wilderness Lodge As for vacation packages, rest assured that those cancellation policies have not changed. These packages, which include a room and park tickets, can be canceled up to 30 days out from your arrival date for a full refund. From 2 to 29 days, you can cancel but will be penalized a $200 cancelation fee (prices are subject to change). Keep in mind that if you cancel the day before or on the day of your arrival, the penalty is a complete forfeiture of the entire package cost. As was the case in 2024 and years prior, changes to a package that includes a hotel stay will impact the entire package. So you can’t cancel just the hotel if you’re canceling a package. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort As we are now in hurricane season, you may wonder what happens with Disney’s cancelation policy in the event of an impending storm. Disney World does alter its cancelation policies during times when severe weather threatens, and you can keep following us here at DFB for news in those situations. We’ll continue to keep you posted on any Disney World hotel policy changes, so stay tuned for any updates! DAS Changes This next change has already taken effect but it could still alter your next Disney World trip. ©Disney Notably, the Disney Disability Access Service (DAS) looks different than it did in previous years, and all accounts point to the new change continuing into 2025. The DAS is a program that accommodates Disney Parks visitors with disabilities that make staying in extended queues difficult. This service extends to family members of those that are affected. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad can have really long lines! The service allows you to schedule a return time that does not provide immediate attraction access, but provides relief for those who struggle with the wait. Redemption of a return time allows you to book another return time for the same or a different attraction and operates similarly to Virtual Queue access. Backed up Peter Pan’s Flight Lightning Lane So what’s changing? Already in effect, the party size for DAS restrictions have changed from six people to “immediate family” or four other people. Disney has made this adjustment in an effort, as they say, to minimize the number of people wrongfully taking advantage of the DAS program. Pirates of the Caribbean Another DAS change is that DAS enrollment and registration has been extended from 60 days to 120 days. While limitations have been put in place, this change is more of a lax and welcome one that doesn’t make you re-rgister for 120 days. The last change is a new “return to queue” process that helps people who may need to leave lines. These changes comes simultaneously with Disney partnering with Inspire Health Alliance — the group responsible for the COVID vaccination information for the Disney Cruise Line. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train We’ll continue to keep you updated on rule changes like these throughout the year, so stay tuned right here at DFB for all the latest! Are you planning to visit the Happiest Place on Earth this summer? Disneyland Disneyland is undergoing many changes to make way for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which will be opening in Disneyland later this year! With this, many closures have hit Disneyland recently. For example, a majority of Critter Country is under construction. Right next to Critter Country, the Haunted Mansion is also undergoing construction. The good news is that Haunted Mansion will be opening even sooner than expected and will be opening as Haunted Mansion Holiday with a Virtual Queue later this year! But soon, even more closures will be hitting the Disneyland Resort. We know that Disneyland is already going through it with the amount of closures around the park, but if you are planning to visit Disneyland this summer you may want to watch out for even more closures in August! Main Street Starting in August, two more attractions will close at Disneyland Park. The Disneyland Railroad will close on August 5th. The railroad does cut through Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, so maybe it will get a new narration update. This could mean that Disneyland is one step closer to opening Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! Can’t Wait for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to open in Disneyland? Take a Sneak Peak of it at Disney World! Disneyland Railroad In Tomorrowland, Space Mountain will also close on August 5th. If you are looking to catch a ride to space, you will need to visit before then! Disneyland’s Space Mountain Two attractions in California Adventure will also close on August 5th. The Animation Building is already undergoing changes, as Beast’s Library in the Sorcerer’s Workshop recently closed to make way for a new space for Imagination Campus, Disney’s education program for students. Beast’s Library On August 5th, both Turtle Talk with Crush and the Animation Academy will close. This means that the only offerings available in the Animation Building would be the Anna and Elsa meet and greet along with the part of the Sorcerer’s Workshop, where you can still practice and learn the tricks of animation. Turtle Talk with Crush While these are a lot of closures for Disneyland, it just means that all these rides and attractions are getting a little love! If you are planning to visit Disneyland before these August 5th closures, you might even be able to catch Pixar Fest, which is happening this summer resort-wide! Pixar Fest Until August 4th, you can find Pixar-themed food offerings, food booths, merchandise, a special parade titled “Better Together: A Pixar Celebration!” and so much more! Listen, your 2025 trip to Disney World is coming up sooner than you think! EPCOT As we said, 2025 is right around the corner which means you’ve really got no time to waste making all the preparations for which hotel you’re going to stay at, the food you’re going to eat, and what’s going to go in your suitcase! But there’s one thing that might have missed your radar and that is closures at Disney World in 2025. We’ve got your back — which is why we’ve brought you a handy dandy list of them so you don’t have to do all the work yourself (we’ve got you)! Let’s go! Let’s waste no time and dive right into the full list of important Disney World Closures in 2025 that you need to know about! Let’s go! Bay Lake Tower Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will be undergoing room refurbishment work from September 2024 to September 2025. You read that correctly — a whole year of construction work! ©Disney The main thing to note is that you will be seeing and hearing construction work in Bay Lake Tower and you might have to take detours, so just stay vigilant. Disney’s Yacht Club Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will also be undergoing room refurbishment work from January 2025 through May 2025. It isn’t quite clear if the work will be a light refurb or a full-on reimagining of the rooms (we’ll keep you posted). Disney’s Yacht Club Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool (which are shared by Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts) will undergo routine maintenance from January 2025 to June 2025. These pools are among the top favorites at the Disney World resorts. Stormalong Bay The other pools at the hotel like the Tidal, Admiral, and Dunes Cove leisure pools will still be open, so you can still spend your time relaxing at the pool. Why You (Probably) Shouldn’t Stay at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort in 2025 Fantasia Pool Staying on the topic of pools, the Fantasia Pool over at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort will also undergo routine maintenance from January 2025 to April 2025. Fantasia Pool While the refurbishment is happening, the Donald Duck pool will still be open, so you can enjoy a pool during your stay. CHANGE Announced for Pool Closure at a Disney World Hotel Perennial Closures There are a couple of things that close annually in January for refurbishment like the Skyliner and the water rides at Disney World. Let’s start with the Skyliner. Disney World’s Skyliner In 2024, it closed from January 16th – 27th, which wasn’t too long. We might see a similar closure for it in 2025. We found out the official dates for the 2024 refurb back in October 2023, so we’ll probably find out about the 2025 refurb in October 2024. We’ll keep you posted! 4 Hotel Rooms in Disney World That Are Only 127 Steps Away from the Skyliner Next, let’s talk about the water rides that tend to close in January. Kali River Rapids in Disney’s Animal Kingdom closed for its refurb from January 8th to March 15th, 2024. We can expect to see a similar closure in 2025. We’ll keep you updated on the official dates when Disney releases them! Kali River Rapids Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom could potentially see a closure in January when the temperature gets quite low, but we don’t have an official word, so we’ll have to wait for Disney to share more! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure It’s Official! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Will Be OPEN During Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Test Track If you didn’t already know, Test Track closed for a HUGE makeover back on June 17th. Reimagining concept art ©Disney Disney stated that this new version of Test Track takes its inspiration from an OG ride — World of Motion. We don’t have many details about the project like a reopening date, so it’s possible given the size and scope of the project that it could potentially still be closed at the beginning of 2025. We’ll keep our eyes out for all the latest news about it and let you know ASAP. Cinderella Castle Those are just a couple of closures in 2025 at Disney World that you should plan around. If you’re a Disney World Annual Passholder, you need to make note of these three days when Magic Kingdom park pass reservations are SOLD OUT. Disney World Annual Pass Annual Passholders still need to make park pass reservations in order to visit the Disney World theme parks (with certain exceptions — I’ll detail those in just a second), and those park passes can and do RUN OUT occasionally. With a big weekend coming up for Magic Kingdom, it’s no surprise that three days have completely sold out for that park. This weekend is the official opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom! The new ride (a re-theme of Splash Mountain) opens on June 28th. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Annual Passholders had the opportunity to preview the new ride on select days, but park pass reservations for those preview dates sold out FAST, so many Passholders haven’t gotten to see it yet. It looks like a lot of them have plans to be there on opening day or soon after! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Currently, Annual Passholder park pass reservations are SOLD OUT for Magic Kingdom on June 28th, 29th, and 30th. This is true for all four Annual Pass tiers (though note that the Pixie passes are blocked out on the 29th and 30th anyway). Magic Kingdom Annual Passholder entrance Right now, all three other parks have park pass reservation availability, so if you’re dying to get into Magic Kingdom on one of those three days, you can make a park pass reservation for EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, or Hollywood Studios, go to that park first, and then immediately hop over to Magic Kingdom. You’ll miss rope drop, but you can still get in! Magic Kingdom Note that you can also go to any park after 2PM without a park pass reservation except for Saturdays or Sundays at Magic Kingdom (so that hack would only help if you’re going to go on Friday afternoon). Magic Kingdom Entrance As a quick reminder, Annual Passholders DO need a Park Pass Reservation to visit Disney World parks EXCEPT in these situations: Good-To-Go Days Any day after 2PM, excluding Magic Kingdom on Saturdays and Sundays You have a Park Pass and have entered the specific park that you have a reservation for — at this point, you can park hop to any other park at any time of day. (Phrased a different way: even though Annual Passholders can hop to a different park at any time, they MUST enter the park they have a theme Park Pass reservation for FIRST before being able to hop.) We’ve previewed Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and definitely think this ride deserves all the hype it’s getting. The music is fun, we loved seeing our favorite characters, and the huge drop is still there! Tiana’s Bayou Adventure If you want to learn more about the ride before you check it out, make sure you visit our Tiana’s Bayou Adventure page to read about the ride’s storyline, characters, music, and more. Our hearts may still be reeling from the loss of a beloved side item at Columbia Harbour House, but that wasn’t the only latest change to this restaurant! New changes at Columbia Harbour House One of our favorite restaurants is hot on the heels of a menu shakedown which included a devastating loss and slight changes to a few staple menu items. Although we had already reported on these recent changes to make you aware, we felt the situation called for a taste test in person and we knew what had to be done. If you’ve ever searched for somewhere around Magic Kingdom for food that’s not the standard theme park food like burgers and hot dogs, you’ve probably considered the offerings at Columbia Harbour House. Columbia Harbour House This restaurant is nestled inside the Liberty Square area of the park and offers several surf-and-turf platters served with a New England-inspired flair. Historically, this restaurant has been a favorite of ours for years, so we decided we were overdue for another visit to check out their most recent menu changes. Atmosphere As we mentioned before, the food served here is inspired by the New England atmosphere and architecture of the restaurant. You’ll find the restaurant’s sign hung right out front beckoning you to come inside! Come on in! As you step through the restaurant’s threshold, you’ll feel as if you’re stepping into a restaurant just off the shore from a shipyard due to its multiple nautical touches. In fact, you’ll find lots of ship and sea decor throughout the entire restaurant. You’ll just want to make sure you’re looking all around you! Nautical theming Seating here can be busy, but usually isn’t much of a problem because there’s seating all over the ground level… Indoor seating …and in several rooms along with a second floor just up the stairs. Upstairs dining area If you’re having a hard time finding a place to sit, consider making the short trek up the steps to find a quieter place to dine. There’s more space inside than meets the eye All of your utensils will be self-service and will be located at the frequent condiment stations found throughout the restaurant. Self-serve station In addition to the normal ketchup, mustard, and mayo you would expect to find, you’ll also have options of other appropriate condiments to compliment the menu platters like tartar sauce and honey mustard. Menu There have been a few changes to the menu here that are mostly subtle lately. However, the overall theme of the menu remains mostly intact. The American cuisine served here sticks to entrees like Lobster Rolls and maple-mustard Glazed Salmon, and platters like fried shrimp, chicken, and fish. Menu There are also a few sides like New England Clam Chowder, green beans, and fries served here to go with the main entrees. Currently, desserts are a choice of either a Boston Cream Pie or Greek yogurt, and you’ll have a few fountain beverage options for soda, lemonade slushes, water, coffee, orange juice, and a few others to complete your meal. Ordering area After browsing the menu for a few moments in the line, we stepped up to place our order at the counter with the Cast Member and waited for our food to be prepared. It’s also important to keep in mind that you have an option to Mobile Order from this restaurant too and it could save you valuable time, especially at peak dining times when the restaurant is busier. Eats Ultimately, we decided to try out the new and changed items on the menu which included the Fried Shrimp Platter, Fish Platter, Shrimp Salad, and Chicken Platter. While some of these might sound like they’re no different than what was already on the menu, we’ll be talking all about their differences! Our full spread Let’s kick things off with the Fried Shrimp Platter. This dish is made of beer-bettered shrimp served with french fries and will cost you $13.99. Fried Shrimp Platter This dish probably was our least favorite of everything we tried, but that’s not to say it was terrible. Previously, the menu here called for breaded shrimp so the big change here was the beer-batter breading. The change in fried breading doesn’t do anything to elevate the shrimp’s flavor and only seems to add to its texture. Inside look When you bite into it, it’s hard to get past the breading and taste much of the shrimp inside which we felt was muted against the new breading. It’s totally ok to stand on its own, but we really wish this one kept more of that briny, shrimp flavor that we felt would have totally helped it out. Ultimately, we doctored this one’s flavor heavily with condiments so if you’re planning to order this one too, we think you should mentally prepare to do the same. Then we turned our attention to the Fish Platter. This dish is made of beer-battered fish served with tartar sauce and french fries and will cost you $12.99. It’s worth pointing out that our entree wasn’t initially served with tartar sauce and we ended up grabbing our own from the condiments stand. Fish Platter What’s new about this fishy dish is the breading here, too! The restaurant also opted for a beer-battered breading over its previous form and we can’t say we mind the change much at all. We found it to be a bit crispier, and flaky, and almost reminded us of fish from Long John Silvers (if you’re into fast food restaurant fish). Cut into the fish It wasn’t a very potent fish taste so it’s possible that the batter muted the flavor a bit, but we found the way the fish broke apart on the outside to be very soft. At the end of the day, it didn’t leave us looking to give it a standing ovation but it was a decent fish meal, especially in Disney World. The Shrimp Salad was up next! This dish is made of mixed greens with cherry tomatoes, mild pepperoncini, manzanilla olives, and capers topped with grilled shrimp on skewers and will cost you $13.49. Shrimp Salad We have to warn you, this was a BIG salad! There was certainly enough in this portion to easily split between two adults and we were floored at just how many pieces of shrimp we received. As for the flavor, the salad was fresh and we loved how zesty it was! Overall it gave an Italian salad vibe with the capers and peppers, and we thought we tasted a hint of a vinaigrette dressing, but overall, it really works for this one! Such a deep salad The peppers taste just like the ones used on pizza at Papa John’s and the combination against the pepperoncini created a vinegar-like taste to it overall. The shrimp we had served on top of the salad were chewy and briny but they were lightly coated in a spice to try to enhance their flavor. We thought it tasted like an Old Bae seasoning, honestly, but it didn’t add much to the salad (or the shrimp for that matter) since it wasn’t thoroughly coated and we only got hints of it at certain times. Overall though, this salad impressed us and we weren’t sure how to expect the execution based on the ingredients but it seems that the restaurant pulled it together into something cohesive. Last but not least we needed to try our tried and true, Chicken Platter. This dish is made of chicken strips served with french fries and will cost you $10.99. Chicken Platter We’re happy to report that the flavor here hasn’t changed! They’re still our fan-favorite chicken tenders just billed as “strips” now on the menu. Inside of the chicken strip They’re lightly breaded on the outside and when you bite down into them you’re met with the soft resistance of the chicken meat in the center of the strip. It’s a crowd-pleaser for the masses of all ages! Overall Overall, we didn’t mind the changes too much as most of it was the same menu offering and applied mostly to how the main entree was prepared. While the most drastic change seemed to have been with the Shrimp Salad, it was easily our favorite of everything we enjoyed in this meal. Columbia Harbour House The beer batter on the fish wasn’t terrible, it just made it crunchier and there wasn’t a ton of flavor in the fried shrimp so we doctored it up with lots of condiments. If you’re planning to try out the newest menu changes here, we’d recommend you start with the Shrimp Salad and change to the Fish platter first. Nosh or Not? Stop by Columbia Harbour House if… You’re tired of the regular theme park food. If you’re craving a change from what you’ve been eating or burgers and hot dogs just aren’t your style, this could be an excellent option for you. You’re an old fan of this restaurant, and don’t mind trying the changes. The preparation for some of these meals is a little different than what you may have had in the past. If you’ve been a fan in the past, it’s time to try out what’s new. How you enjoy your meal matters. The atmosphere where you choose to dine and relax while grabbing a bite to eat matters just as much to you as the quality of the meal itself. If you’re looking for a place that’s quiet, indoors with great AC, and some ideal views from the window seats, this could be your new favorite spot. You’ll probably want to find another place to dine if… Surf and Turf entrees just don’t appeal to you. Sure, there’s a chicken platter here and a few solid sides like fries and green beans, but most of the menu is going to have some sort of sea-based shrimp, clam, or fish to it. You’re looking to snack and go. This quick-service restaurant will have hefty portions that might take a few minutes to enjoy comfortably. If you’re looking for something that’s more of the grab-and-go style, consider stopping by one of the snack carts or restaurants like Gaston’s Tavern for even lighter bites. You’re still hurt over hushpuppy-gate. We get you, truly — and we commiserate with you. But, if the recent menu changes left you feeling lawless and without your favorite menu item to carry you through this meal, we could totally understand stopping somewhere else to eat. Hollywood Studios during the holiday season Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays, and Jollywood Nights at Hollywood Studios will all be returning, and we don’t blame you if you’re planning a trip. But, Disney made a ton of announcements, so we’ve rounded them all up for you right here! Let’s jump right in with Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, which is returning this year at Magic Kingdom! The party will take place on select nights from November 8th through December 20th and will include tons of festive fun — like the new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. A popular hotel food court is going to be partially CLOSED as Disney gives the space an update and refresh. Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort Choosing the best Disney World hotel for you is no simple feat, as you need to navigate different amenities, price points, and locations to find out which one will be perfect for your upcoming vacation. If you’d previously settled on Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort (a great option if you’re looking for fun theming and budget-friendly prices), there’s an upcoming refurbishment that you need to know about! According to Disney’s website, the World Premiere Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort will be undergoing refurbishment for the entire month of July (July 1st through the 31st, 2024). This food court is the only dining location at All-Star Movies. World Premiere Food Court Luckily, the refurbishment will NOT close down the entire food court. Disney notes that “during this time, guests may utilize the My Disney Experience app to order food and drinks with their mobile devices. Signs featuring a QR code in the lobby and near the World Premiere Food Court areas will take you to the app when scanned.” Alternatively, you can just search for the World Premiere Food Court in the My Disney Experience app to find the Mobile Order page that way. World Premiere Food Court Mobile Order has been available at World Premiere Food Court for a long time now, but it looks like it might be the ONLY option for ordering food during this upcoming refurbishment (by the sound of it, the counters where you can order in-person might not be available). Disney has also said that the Mobile Order menu might be limited during this time. Click here for a complete guide on how to use Mobile Order at Disney World. Another refurbishment will affect All-Star Movies, but not until next year. From January 2025 through April 2025, the Fantasia Pool at All-Star Movies is going to be closed for maintenance. Fantasia Pool Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort is part of the trio of All-Star Resorts, with the other two being All-Star Sports and All-Star Music. These are some of the cheapest hotels in Disney World, which makes them pretty popular. However, the low price point also means fewer amenities, as each All-Star hotel only has one dining location (the food courts) rather than multiple restaurants, like the deluxe hotels in Disney World have. All Star Movies But one thing we love about All-Star Movies is the larger-than-life statues of Disney characters that you’ll find throughout the resort. Kids especially tend to love walking around and looking at them! All Star Movies When are you headed to Disney World next? Have you checked out our line of fun graphic tees to wear on your trip? From a Galaxy Far, Far Away to The Happiest Place on Earth… Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Celebrities visiting Disney parks is nothing new. From Disneyland’s earliest days right to the present, actors, politicians, musicians, and sports stars will often visit the parks. However, there’s only a small subset of them that can do so and literally see a hologram of themselves AND a Cast Member portraying them. However, one Star Wars star was recently able to do just that. Rey actress Daisy Ridley recently paid a visit to Disneyland, and shared details of her visit on her Instagram stories. Ridley shared a photo of her character’s holographic appearance in the queue for Rise of the Resistance, along with the excited caption: “Being IN the (top rated!) ride at Disneyland is MAD!” Daisy Ridley Instagram Riding Rise of the Resistance wasn’t the only thing Ridley did in Galaxy’s Edge however, as she also shared an adorable snap of herself meeting up with the Cast Member portraying Rey (and Chewbacca) in the land, which must have been massive thrill for both of them, which the actress described as “Surrealist.” Daisy Ridley Instagram In the same story, Ridley also pays tribute to her Disneyland tour guide for the day, writing “Philander, the best Disneyland tour guide there ever was.” Ridley’s visit comes at at time when the actress – – who is scheduled to return to the Star Wars saga in an upcoming new film – – has spoken out about the somewhat divisive response to her character and the trilogy of films in which she starred. 2015’s Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens was widely praised upon release, however a vocal minority of “fans” were unhappy with Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi despite critical and general audience acclaim, which led to some “course correction” for Star Wars Episode IX: Rise of Skywalker. Said “course correction” didn’t work, as the film didn’t meet the expectations of either fans, critics, or general audiences. ©Disney Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ridely recently spoke about the reactions to the films, saying “It’s still upsetting. You don’t want people to feel like you’ve not served the thing they’re a fan of. But [The Last Jedi] was so divisive… it felt like the first one everyone was responsive in the same way. The second, super divisive. The last one, super divisive. It didn’t change how I felt about it.” It remains to be seen if Ridley’s return to the Star Wars universe will be less”divisive”, but the saga’s not the only film of her career she referenced during her Disneyland visit. She also shared a story not related to Star Wars, sending a snap of a band performing at California Adventure with the caption of “Also!!! Trudy’s song! The Universe is Universing!!!” referencing her recent portrayal of Gertrude Ederle in the recent Disney film Young Woman and the Sea.
