  2. Do you scroll through pages of Amazon listings in search of the perfect Disney Loungefly bag? Have you visited a Disney World gift shop to check out the selection of Loungefly bags? Is your closet filled with FUN Disney souvenirs and accessories? Well, you might want to listen up. Loungefly bags There are some upcoming dates this August that are SUPER important for Disney fans. A BIG (like, really big) event called D23: The Ultimate Fan Event is happening soon, and we’re expecting some special merchandise to pop up during the convention. In fact, Loungefly just teased some exciting news about what you might see! Recently, Disney revealed the full schedule of events and panels happening at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. The event will take place from August 9th through August 11th, 2024 in Anaheim, California. It will feature tons of special experiences, including appearances from Disney execs, celebrities, Imagineers, and so much more. Plus, most importantly, there will likely be some BIG announcements! Ticket Prices Every Disney fan event needs exclusive merchandise, right? Well, Loungefly confirmed that it will be at this year’s D23 event. YAY! You know what that means — bring some money for souvenirs, people. Step-By-Step Guide to Making Panel Reservations For This HUGE Disney Fan Event Loungefly just shared some interesting information about what we can expect at D23. They even hinted that there are some hidden CLUES in the announcement, which you can see below! For one thing, we know that Loungefly is bringing some booth exclusives to the event. Yep — that means EXCLUSIVE Disney Loungeflys! ©Loungefly Hmm, that graphic reads, “Loungefly Studios.” It reminds us of the Walt Disney Studios logo, right? Interesting… Interesting! Loungefly will be there for the duration of the D23 convention at booth 5810 at the Anaheim Convention Center! We also picked up on some interesting wording in this sentence, “We’ll be bringing you some of the fairest exclusives to D23. Be sure to check back regularly to catch our booth exclusive reveals – you don’t want to miss the boat!” Snow White Could this mean we might see a Steamboat Willie Loungefly bag? Perhaps a Snow White-inspired bag? Maybe a Walt Disney Studios-inspired accessory? We’ll have to wait and see! FULL SCHEDULE for D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. 50 Amazing Things You Never Knew Were in Disney World Hotels Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 3. Believe it or not, you can still get some free things in Disney World — if you know where to look. Disney Springs For example, you can pick up a free Celebration button pretty much anywhere for anything you might be celebrating (although, if you want to spend an extra $3, you can get it plussed up). Of course, we’ve told you to take advantage of free water when you can! Well, you can also get some free souvenirs, if you know where to look. We just found a fun souvenir that’s available in Disney Springs. We were recently visiting Disney Springs when we noticed a child with an alien wand (yes, really) made out of balloons. Of COURSE, we had to ask his parent where he got it. We were directed to — of all places — the Ron Jon Surf Shop. Ron Jon Surf Shop Inside the shop, we spotted a balloon artist making balloon art FOR FREE. We found out that you can find a balloon artist here every Thursday, so if you’d like to pop in and get a free souvenir that’s sure to make your kids smile (or you), be sure to visit. Balloon artist in Disney Springs Check out this awesome Spider-Man balloon the artist made! So, don’t forget: Thursdays. Ron Jon Surf Shop. Be there! Spider-Man! Looking for more freebies in Disney Springs? Well, you can often get free chocolate square samples from Ghirardelli, for starters. Basin also offers free samples of their bath and body products. You can even get occasional free samples of Goofy’s Glaciers from Goofy’s Candy Company! Many Disney Springs businesses also offer freebies on your birthday, like Starbucks, Summer House on the Lake, Sprinkles, Wetzel’s Pretzels, and Earl of Sandwich — note that you might have to sign up for some of those birthday freebies. 4. There’s NO WAY that a smart traveler like you is gonna pass up on learning ALL the best-kept secrets you need to know about Disney World Hotels. So THAT’S why we’ve created this ULTIMATE list of Disney’s AWESOME hotel details that most people have never heard about! The Lobby at Wilderness Lodge We’ve never been one to gatekeep all the amazing secrets and tricks that go into a Disney World resort stay — and we sure aren’t going to start now! (Not when you’ve got an upcoming trip you need to plan ahead for! That would just be MEAN of us.) So today, we’re gonna not only fill ya in on the BEST Disney World hotel activities resort-wide, but we’re also gonna tell ya about all of our favorite resort secrets, hidden gems, and Easter eggs hiding around the hotels, as well! Smart Lockers Ever had groceries or a package delivered to your Disney resort? Well, it’s now easier for guests to retrieve their items thanks to these smart lockers at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort! There are 45 lockers that range in size from small to large, and they’re all located right outside Melody Hall, near luggage services. The Smart Lockers So how do these lockers work? Select vendors are allowed to drop off groceries at those All-Star smart lockers for you, if you’d like them to. From there, if you used the online check in service via the My Disney Experience (MDE) app, you’ll receive an email notification when packages or grocery items have been delivered to the lockers, along with instructions on how to access your stuff. You can use this touch-screen to access a locker If you order something that needs to be kept cold, there are refrigerated lockers available too (though those are subject to availability, so you may feel more comfortable just meeting the delivery person in the front lobby to pick up those perishables and get ‘em back to your room as quickly as possible). Groceries Certain items (like alcoholic beverages) cannot be delivered to the lockers, so you’ll have no choice but to pick those items up in person – just a head’s up. And don’t forget that there is a $6+ fee to use these lockers, too – though prices are always subject to change. Didn’t use online check-in? No worries! You’ll still be able to pick up grocery orders from Bell Services (for, again, around a $6 fee). Crazy Cool Things You Can Get Delivered to Your Disney World Hotel Fireworks In The Headboards If you want a REAL Royal Treatment – with a moderate price tag – then you may wanna float on down to the bayous and get a room over at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside. Just like any other Disney World resort, Port Orleans Riverside has a few different room types. You’ve got your standard, your pool view, your preferred room, your King Bed room. BUT unlike the other resorts, you’ve got ANOTHER option called The Royal Guest Room. Royal Rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans — Riverside This is one of those rooms where a GRAND REVEAL is warranted. Some resorts, you open the door and you’re just like, “Cool. A bed and a bathroom.” But at a Royal Guest Room, you open the door and reveal portraits of Disney princesses hanging on the walls, Aladdin’s magic carpet sprawled out on the floor, Belle’s little footstool pup next to the TV, sinks with magic lamps, and – to REALLY hit it out of the ballpark – headboards that ACTUALLY light up with fireworks. And the best part? These rooms are still set at a moderate price. New Cabins Saddle up, partners! We’re headed to the wilderness…. Fort Wilderness, that is. Those old log cabin-style rooms over yonder are GONE now. Imagineers have completely redesigned those rooms to become the Disney Vacation Club Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort (that ANYONE — even non-DVC members — are allowed to book). Old Fort Wilderness Cabin These new cabin designs feature a sleek, modern interior, which Disney explained are “inspired by the resort’s idyllic setting, while also paying homage to the resort’s unique culture and heritage through the magic of Disney storytelling.” The cabins sleep up to six adults and feature one bedroom, one bathroom, a living room, a full kitchen, and a private patio. Some cabins are also dog-friendly. Bunk beds We just love all the touches in these new cabins. The first loop of new cabins opened on July 1st, 2024, so book your stay now! FULL TOUR: We Got an Exclusive Look at the NEW Fort Wilderness Cabins in Disney World! Treehouses What if you didn’t stay in a hotel at all? What if you stayed somewhere, instead, that you could brag about at your next high school reunion? The Treehouses at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort might be a good place to start! Treehouse Saratoga Springs often gets overlooked when it comes to the Disney World resort lineup, since it’s A) Very DVC-focused, and B) has outdated rooms. BUT those treehouses are NOT to be slept on. (Just… slept IN!) Saratoga’s treehouses aren’t exactly perched ON a tree, per se, but they are elevated so they’re AMONGST the treetops. A Saratoga Springs Treehouse Villa They’re also super spacious and can sleep up to 9 people – with three bedrooms, full kitchen, outdoor patio, and full living room areas. Click HERE for our Complete Guide to Eating at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort! Garden Suites If you don’t mind the splurge, you can get a nice and private Garden Suite over at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. Disney’s BoardWalk Inn The Garden Suite will place you in the EPCOT-area resorts (but, like, in the most quiet, peaceful way possible). For starters, there are only 14 Garden Suites available for you to book at the BoardWalk Inn. And these 14 suites might be connected to one another, but they’re also fenced off – so other guests can’t wander in-and-out all willy-nilly. BoardWalk Inn Garden Suite Not only will you have space away from other guests, but you’ll also have space to spread out from fellow members of your travel group. Living room! The suites are two stories tall and include a full living room area (with a wraparound couch), multiple bathrooms (including one with a FULL-on jacuzzi tub on the second floor), a wet bar, and an upstairs loft (where you can play “Rapunzel, Rapunzel” and let down your hair). FULL TOUR: The Hidden Disney World Hotel Suites That’ll Make Your Jaw DROP A Part Of Old MGM Lives On When you’re taking a dip over at The Boulder Ridge Cove Pool Area in the back of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, check out that vintage-looking mining equipment hanging out in this quarry-themed area. Boulder Ridge For some of you long-time Disney-goers, this equipment might look familiar — and that’s because it used to be part of the now-defunct Studio Backlot Tour at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! 6 Things You’ll Only Remember If You Were a Die-Hard Disney World Kid! Starlight Safari You can enjoy a nighttime activity out on the resort’s private savanna thanks to the Starlight Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge! Giraffe seen on Starlight Safari Since this hour-long experience takes place well after the sun goes down, guests will receive night vision goggles to spot the African wildlife that call the savanna home. Over 30 species reside at the Lodge including zebras, giraffes, gazelles, antelopes, flamingos, and more. The safari begins! The Starlight Safari is offered twice nightly at 8:30PM and 10PM, and prices vary by date (but tend to cost around $75-$89 each.) CLICK HERE for our full review with photos of the Starlight Safari! A Mural Mistake? If you’ve ever visited Disney’s Contemporary Resort, then there’s pretty much no way that you missed the GIGANTIC mural. Mary Blair mural This area is known as the Grand Canyon Concourse, so the mural here was created to fit the name. It was designed by Mary Blair, the talented artist behind the concept art for many Disney films and the character designs for “it’s a small world.” Designed by Mary Blair This is Blair’s largest mural ever, and it has been here since the resort first opened back in 1971. It’s made to look like a stylized interpretation of the Grand Canyon, complete with animals, foliage, and Native Americans. In her artwork, Mary Blair was paying homage to Southwest Native Americans, so she wanted to include one of their beliefs in her design. They believe that nothing made by man could ever be perfect since man is imperfect. That goat has 5 legs! To reflect this belief in her mural, Blair included a 5-legged goat. It’s a reminder that human error exists and that people make mistakes in their artwork. Do You Know the Real Reason Behind This Disney World Hotel “Mistake?” Pool Parties Pause that Marco Polo game! Disney’s got some OTHER poolside activities for you — like trivia games, bingo, water balloon tosses… you name it! Art of Animation Activities Pool activities will vary between resorts AND change up daily — so check your resort’s featured schedule of activities listed inside the lobby (OR ask a cast member at the front desk about the resort’s updated itinerary). The Pool Hopping Rule Everyone Forgets In Disney World Glass Slipper Photo Op If you’ve ever wanted to get a photo with Cinderella’s glass slipper, you might be in luck! Fun photo op! There’s a Photo Pass area set up at Disney’s Grand Floridian with a colorful ombré backdrop and it sometimes offers a chance to pose with — you guessed it — the famous glass slipper! Voyageurs’ Lounge Planning on doing a little remote work while you’re away on vacay? The Voyageurs Lounge in Disney’s Riviera Resort might be the perfect place to get stuff done. Voyageur’s Lounge This stylish lounge reflects Walt Disney’s travels through Europe, including decor inspired by the books Walt Disney collected and his 1935 “Grand Tour” through the continent. So go ahead — work OR relax here while enjoying some snacks and beverages from the adjacent Le Petit Cafe. A Real-Working Geyser And we’re BACK at Wilderness Lodge (because there’s a LOT of details around THIS deluxe hotel that you’re NOT gonna want to miss)! If you follow the path behind the pool area — close to the lake — then you’ll eventually stumble upon Fire Rock Geyser, which is a 120-foot geyser that erupts hourly from 7am to 10pm. Geyser at Wilderness Lodge THAR SHE BLOWS! REVIEW: Need a BREAK From Magic Kingdom? Try This Hidden Spot! Three Words: Tie Dye Cheesecake No Pop Century expert would stay at the Pop Century hotel without enjoying its trademark tie-dye cheesecake dessert at least once! The psychedelic treat features tie-dyed cheesecake layered on top of red velvet cake. Tie-dye Cheesecake While you might be expecting all kinds of flavors with all those multiple colors, the cheesecake here tastes like a regular ol’ super yummy cheesecake that pairs well with the flavoring of the red velvet cake. Disney Food Recipe: Pop Century’s Tie-Dye Cheesecake Pool Hopping… Sometimes. Since we’re all friends here, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Okay, it’s not really a secret, but it is good information to know when you’re planning your trip. You can actually pool hop in Disney World — but only at specific hotels. If you’re staying at Port Orleans — French Quarter, you’re welcome to spend some time lounging by the Doubloon Lagoon Pool, but you’re also welcome to visit Port Orleans — Riverside, where you’ll find Ol’ Man Island. It’s home to a large pool, a spa, a kiddie pool, a wading pool, and a short but fun water slide. Doubloon Lagoon at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter Just because you’re staying at a Value Resort doesn’t mean you don’t get some stellar perks — and if you have an upcoming trip planned for any of the three All-Star Resorts on property, you’re in luck. No matter which All-Star Resort you might be staying at (Sports, Music, or Movies) you can visit any of the All-Star pools! Grand Slam Pool At All-Star Music, there are the Calypso and Piano Pools, All-Star Movies has the Fantasia and Duck Pond Pools, and at All-Star Sports, you’ll find the Surfboard Bay and Grand Slam Pools. Fantasia Pool at All-Star Movies (Unfortunately, this kind of value resort pool hopping is strictly for the All-Star value hotels ONLY, and not for any of the other value hotels. So if you stay at Pop Century OR Art of Animation instead, you’re gonna have to stick with the pools available at your own hotel. But, don’t worry – you definitely won’t be suffering any. The Pop Century Pools and Art of Animation pools are pretty awesome.) And, if you’re staying at Disney’s Yacht Club OR Disney’s Beach Club Resorts, you’ll be able to hop between these pools, as well! For those looking for some leisurely hangs, you can check out the Tidal, Admiral, and Dunes Cove Pools. Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Beach Club But the best pool at Yacht & Beach Club — and quite possibly all of Disney World — is Stormalong Bay. Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort Restaurants Brew Joffrey’s Coffee In Your Room If you go up to a Joffrey’s kiosk and ask them for free coffee… the cast members are probably gonna give you a weird look. But you CAN make yourself a cup of complimentary Joffrey’s coffee when you stay in a Disney World hotel room. Coffee maker in Port Orleans Each room will have its own little coffee maker — complete with sugar, cream, and stirrers (and, of course, Joffrey’s coffee packets). Making yourself a cup of joe before you head out to the parks can help save you money on a morning java. Coffee in Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts Split Stays Let’s say you really wanna spend the night in a room at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. BUT you also DON’T wanna spend money to stay there for an ENTIRE week. (Because, oh my gosh, it’s SO EXPENSIVE.) GF sparkles during the holiday season! You can always choose to do a “split stay,” and spend the FIRST half of your vacation at one of the Disney value resorts, then wrap up with a BANG over at a deluxe resort. Pop Century If you decide to go the split stay route, let Bell Services of your first resort know what’s up. That way, they can transfer your luggage over to your SECOND Disney World hotel, free of charge. If Your Luggage Looks Like This, You’re a Disney World Expert Animal Spotting Guides Whether you’re staying at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge or just swinging by for a visit (and a nice meal), you can pick up an Animal Spotting Guide at the front desk to help you identify the different animals hanging out on the resort’s personal savanna. Wildlife Spotting Guide If you’re staying in a room at Animal Kingdom Lodge, there should be a spotting guide on the table, ready and waiting for you. (But, again, if you don’t see one, you can always pick one up in the lobby). Animal Kingdom Lodge And even if you DON’T pick one of these spotting guides up, you can STILL watch the African animals out those GIANT windows of the resort. Find our COMPLETE GUIDE TO EATING at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge HERE. The Famous Nixon Speech The Contemporary’s got QUITE the history to it. And not just Disney-specific history. AMERICAN history, too. Disney’s Contemporary Resort In 1973, after the events of Watergate, Richard Nixon delivered his famous ‘I am Not a Crook Speech’ in the Contemporary’s Ballroom of Americas. Of course, very shortly after that speech, Nixon did resign from the presidency for his actions. But those very famous words still live on in American history to this day. Contemporary vs. Wilderness Lodge Disney World Resort Guide 2023 Take A Boat To Disney Springs Resort guests at Port Orleans French Quarter and Riverside, Old Key West Resort, and Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa may not have the convenience of the Skyliner and Monorail at their disposal, but they DO have the Sassagoula River Ferry Boat! Sassagoula Riverboats This open-air water taxi is a relaxing (and free) way to travel over to the Disney Springs shopping district. Sassagoula River Boat And here’s the BEST part about it — you don’t HAVE to be a resort guest to use it! Even if you just wanted to hop on board to grab some beignets over at the French Quarter, ANYBODY is allowed to use these boats whenever they’re available. WATCH OUT for 4 Transportation PROBLEMS at Disney World Hotels Character Wake-Up Calls Let’s add a little extra magic to your morning routine, shall we? Instead of just using your phone’s alarm to help get you up and at ‘em, press the Wake-Up Call Button on the phone in your room when you first move into your Disney hotel so you can set up an early morning ring-a-ling from a super-special Disney friend! Arrange a Wake Up Call You won’t be able to request a specific character, but in the past we’ve been greeted by popular characters like Mickey or Stitch. 27 Things You May Not Know Your Disney World Hotel Can Do For You! A GIANT Hidden Mickey From Up Above The next time that you visit Disney’s Riviera Resort, look up! In the porte cochere (also known as the covered area in front of the resort where cars can pass through), you can spot a giant Hidden Mickey! HUGE Hidden Mickey! These modern-looking chandeliers have been cleverly placed to create that iconic Mickey shape when you look at it from the right angle. You’ve Walked Past These Hidden Mickeys in Disney World DOZENS of Times Without Seeing Them LOTS Of Trains There’s a HIDDEN train room at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge! Before the Disneyland Railroad existed, there was the Carolwood Pacific Railroad — which was a small railway that Walt Disney built in his own Los Angeles backyard. Carolwood Pacific Room This room is named after that very railroad, and you’ll find train nods throughout — from trains in the decor to scale models of the very train that lived at Walt’s house. It’s a great spot for Disney history buffs to explore! You can find this room located inside the Boulder Ridge Villas, on the ground floor, just off the lobby. 6 Cool Things You’ve Never Seen at Disney World Hotels TWO Trader Sam’s Locations Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto is an ultra-popular immersive bar inside Disney’s Polynesian Village. Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto But because of its popularity, it also gets busy. PACKED, even, to the point where you might not be able to get on the walk-up waitlist at all. Now, your best bet for getting on the Grog Grotto waitlist is to show up at the bar before it opens for the day (which is typically at 3PM), BUT if you miss your window of opportunity, you can always opt for the SECOND Trader Sam’s location instead — Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace. Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace Tiki Terrace is a relaxed, outdoor lounge right outside Grog Grotto that features the same creative concoctions and food served inside the bar area. While Tiki Terrace may not have the level of interactive shenanigans that Grog Grotto has, you can still hear live music out here while sitting next to an outdoor waterfall to get more of that serene island vibe. The Complete Guide to Eating at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Dinner AND A Show Giddy-up, pardner, and get ready for a rootin’ tootin’ good time! The Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue at Fort Wilderness is an extravaganza of food and entertainment for the whole family. Seriously, it’s hard not to have a good time here. Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue Located in Pioneer Hall, the setting is a huge barn complete with stage and musical numbers, and there are (literally!) buckets of food for the table to share serving up an all-you-care-to-enjoy meal of fried chicken (find the recipe here!), ribs, mashed potatoes, and unlimited draft beer, wine, and sangria for Guests 21 years of age or older. (Though word of warning, the sangria leaves something to be desired. So this is more of a “quantity over quality” sort of ordeal.) Strawberry Shortcake There are typically three showtimes per evening for Hoop-Dee-Doo: 4PM, 6:15PM, and 8:30PM. Just remember — Fort Wilderness can take a while to get to. Take a gander at the bus and boat systems to be sure you have plenty of time to get to Fort Wilderness for your reservation. (And note that Disney recommends you arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled showtime.) PHOTOS & VIDEOS: Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue Gingerbread Displays Wonderfully aromatic and gorgeous Gingerbread Displays can be found at SEVERAL Disney resorts around the holidays. Grand Floridian Gingerbread House Typically, these gingerbread structures start popping up around the resort lobbies around mid-November and last until the beginning of January. So whether you’re staying as a guest at one of these resorts around that time of year – or you’re just a passer-byer who wanted to see what all the fuss was about – EVERYONE is welcome to check out the gingerbread displays and get into the holly-jolly spirit. Check out the Grand Floridian’s Gingerbread House right here! Boozy Drinks On-The-Go Don’t have time for a sit-down meal at Beaches and Cream, over at the Beach Club? Then grab an ice cream treat on-the-go! Beaches & Cream To Go Window Beaches and Cream has a to-go window right outside the restaurant that serves a limited selection of icy treats — like Double Hand-Scooped Ice Cream, shakes, Mini (m-i-n-i) Mickey Sink Sundae, and (for all you adults out there) BOOZY concoctions, too! Holiday Shake These boozy drinks range from hard sodas, wines, beers, ciders, and — our favorite option — hard floats and shakes, too! Review: There’s a Reason It’s Hard To Snag a Reservation at This Disney World Restaurant Hotel Room Celebrations If you’re celebrating something during your next Disney World vacay — like a birthday, graduation, or anniversary — you can add on a special delivery. ©Magical Floral & Gifts Magical Floral & Gifts partners with Florida Fresh Florals, LLC to provide premium gift deliveries to guests who are wanting to surprise their loved ones with a little extra “pizzazz” during their special day. From there, “Delivery of the package is coordinated between the front desk team and the guest.” You can also have these gifts delivered up to your room, but “you must be present” in order to make that happen. All-Star Movies Front Desk Currently, there are a variety of gift baskets, balloon bouquets, and floral arrangements to choose from. The 5 Biggest Mistakes to AVOID When Checking In and Out of Your Disney World Hotel SO MUCH African Artwork Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge features over 800 unique pieces of original art, which is one of the largest assemblages of African art outside of the continent of Africa! We’re talking paintings, sculptures, and artifacts that fill Animal Kingdom Lodge’s lobbies, hallways, and corridors. Artwork in Jambo House And the largest piece featured in this collection? A 16-foot tall mask made by the Igbo people of Nigeria displayed in the main lobby! Watch The Fireworks — Minus The Park Ticket! You can actually see the Magic Kingdom’s fireworks show, Happily Ever After, without ever entering the park. (Okay, so TECHNICALLY you can only see the fireworks… not so much the castle projections. But, hey — beggars can’t be choosers.) They all lived happily… ever… after. So where can you catch the show? A few different places around the resorts — specifically around the monorail hotels that include Disney’s Polynesian Village, Disney’s Grand Floridian, and Disney’s Contemporary. While you can always watch the fireworks for FREE over at the resorts beachsides or near the marinas, you can also catch a dinner and a show while dining at places like ‘Ohana at Polynesian Village or Narcoossee’s at the Grand Floridian. If you’re dining near showtime, be sure to ask for a table near a window for a good view! (Note: this strategy doesn’t always guarantee you a fireworks seat, but it doesn’t hurt to try!) The restaurants even dim the lights and play the fireworks soundtrack so you can listen along to the show, as well! ©Disney And for a guaranteed fireworks view, you can make reservations for California Grill over at the Contemporary Resort — which has a private outdoor balcony specifically for their guests to have a unique vantage point of the Magic Kingdom spectacular. View from California Grill Don’t wanna pay an arm and a leg for Cali Grill’s prix-fixe menu? You might also be able to grab a walk-up seat for the restaurant’s bar (which will give you a limited menu of bites to choose from, but the same fireworks balcony privileges). Watch the FULL Happily Ever After Fireworks Show in Magic Kingdom! Become One With The Outdoors When it comes to resort recreation, Fort Wilderness blows all other resorts out of the water. There’s SO much to do here, in fact, that you could fill a whole day at Fort Wilderness alone and never step outside the campgrounds. You can… Archery Take a dip at the Meadow Swimming pool. Shadow Boxes If you haven’t had a chance to visit Disney’s Pop Century Resort, you might want to even if you’re not staying there — just to admire the shadow boxes filled with blasts from the past. Shadow Boxes In keeping with this fun and colorful Value resort’s theme, the shadow boxes in the lobby include items reflecting music, television, fads, trends, gizmos and gadgets from the various decades, ranging from the 50s-90s. 6 Things Pop Century Experts Would Never, Ever Do in Disney World Poolside Cabanas For some extra luxury while you’re lounging by the pool, you can always rent a cabana! They’re available (for an extra fee) for all resort guests over at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, and Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club. Yacht and Beach Club Cabanas While cabanas vary depending on their location, your cabana will more than likely have padded furniture, a TV, a ceiling fan, and a mini-fridge stocked with complimentary snacks and water. To reserve a cabana before your trip, call (407) WDW-PLAY (or (407) 939-7529). Much like advance dining reservations, you can start booking poolside cabanas 60 days before the start of your trip. Word of warning — cabanas can be kinda steep (often ranging around $200+ for a full day rental). Cozy Cone Pool at Art of Animation Resort But if you’re staying at Disney’s Art of Animation, there are free cabanas that you can grab (in first come, first served fashion) over at the Cozy Cone Pool. Your cabana here won’t have all the same plushy perks, but — hey — it’s complimentary! AND shaped like a giant traffic cone! Click HERE to see the COMPLETE PHOTO TOUR featuring MANY more details of an Art of Animation Family Suite! Another Low-Key Lounge Located across from the Beach Club Marketplace at Beach Club Resort, The Solarium is a bright and airy room that has plenty of seating, a TV, and a generally serene atmosphere. The Crescent Solarium We’ve been known to come here just to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Disney scene. And since the EPCOT International Gateway entrance is just a short walk away, this is a great stop for if you need a little break from the park. The “I’m So Tired; Just Tell Me What To Do” Guide To Choosing the Perfect Disney World Hotel Catch And Release Fishing Private catch-and-release large-mouth bass fishing excursions are available to book at any of the Disney World resorts that have a marina. During this excursion, you’ll be provided with a guide, a rod and reel, tackle, artificial/live bait, and complimentary beverages. (Just don’t plan on bringing your own cooler — because those aren’t allowed on the boat). Fishing To make reservations (and learn more about the pricing info), call 407-WDW-BASS (or 939-2277). Bet You Didn’t Know Disney Will Let Practically Anyone DRIVE a PONTOON BOAT Around Magic Kingdom! (And It’s SHOCKINGLY Cheap!) Hit Up A Jazz Club Scat Cat’s Club Lounge at Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter serves up drinks, beignets, and unique cajun cuisine. And to make this place even BETTER, on select evenings (typically Fridays through Sundays), you can listen to live jazz musicians while sipping on those specialty cocktails. Jazz Musicians If you’re coming by French Quarter during the day, the lounge won’t be open (since Scat Cat’s Club Lounge is open from 5pm-midnight daily) — but you can also enjoy some Beignets from the Scat Cat’s Club Café, which is located right next door! REVIEW: This Disney World Restaurant BETRAYED Us…But It Might Still Be Worth a Visit A Tragic Band Break-Up One of the world’s greatest bands officially called it quits on Disney World property. John Lennon told The Beatles in 1969 that he wanted out of the group — and Paul McCartney officially announced it to the public in 1970. It wasn’t until 1974, however, that the band officially signed the papers to end it all. So George and Paul signed in New York, Ringo in England, and John at none other than… the Polynesian Village — while on a family vacation. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort He received the papers on Christmas Eve — with his witnesses including the Seven Seas Lagoon and Cinderella Castle. NEWS: An Iconic Film About The Beatles Is Coming to Disney+ Soon Sangria University Sangria University is a special dining event that takes place at Three Bridges Bar and Grill, over at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. Here, you can learn how to make your own sommelier-led spirit, while also taste-testing four house-made sangrias AND learning all about the history of this fruity cocktail that we’ve come to know and enjoy immensely. Sangria University (And, yes, this sangria IS way better than the Hoop Dee Doo Sangria. It’s just not… unlimited.) The Exclusive Disney World Dining Experience That’ll Turn You into a MASTER Laundry Day Every Disney resort has self-service laundry facilities that you can use during your stay. So if you wanna pack lighter to avoid those wild baggage fees from the airlines, you can do that and STILL have clean clothes all vacation long. And what makes these laundry facilities even BETTER is that they’re not gonna cost you a whole lotta precious vacation time because you can sign up for text updates letting you know when your laundry is done! Art of Animation Laundry Room Some resorts do charge a minimal fee (usually around $3 per load) to use the machines. And, if you don’t wind up bringing your own from home, soap and softener is usually available in the laundry facility vending machines for about $1 a pop. But what if you wanna do laundry in the peace and quiet of your own hotel room? Washer and Dryer If you’re staying at a deluxe villa, you’ll have a washer and dryer there right in the room! These washer/dryer combos come with a single-serve box of detergent, but you can always grab more at your resort gift shop. No Foolin’. THIS Is Our Favorite Technology at Disney World Right Now That NOBODY Knows About! Fitness Centers After walking for miles and miles across a Disney theme park, you’ll be happy to know that you can go back to your resort and work out… again. Some of the resorts have fitness centers with equipment that can be used for free during your stay. And while hours will vary at each fitness club, some equipment (like the weights) may need to be put away at night. So if you’re looking to pump some iron, plan to do that earlier on rather than later in the evening. Fitness Center at Contemporary You may also need your resort key to access the fitness center — so have your smartphone, MagicBand, or key card at-the-ready! Five Hidden Tips You Should Know About Disney World’s NEW Gran Destino Tower… Community Hall Rentals Many of the DVC resorts feature Community Halls where you can hang out, play games, or kill time on a rainy day. Anyone staying at a resort with a community hall can take advantage of the board games, foosball, ping pong, and other complementary activities here — while other things (like DVD rentals) may come with a small fee for non-DVC members. Community Hall at Old Key West On top of all that, there’s always a schedule of activities taking place in the Community Halls, too. So be sure to check them out for crafts and games if you have some downtime at your resort. A Food And Wine Festival OUTSIDE Of EPCOT Now THIS is a hidden gem that all you food-lovers out there are gonna EAT UP… LITERALLY. Over at the EPCOT area Swan and Dolphin Hotels, you can experience the Swan and Dolphin Food and Wine Classic for a limited time each fall. The 2023 event’s booths During this event, you’ll pay for a flat-rate ticket to eat and drink as MUCH as you want to while you’re there — with HUNDREDS of different specialty options to choose from. The 9 BEST Things We Tried at the Swan & Dolphin Food & Wine Classic in Disney World Movies Under the Stars Every single Disney World resort — whether it be a value, moderate, or deluxe stay — has a complimentary Movie Under the Stars that families can attend each night out on the resort lawn or near the feature pool. Movies Under the Stars! The film changes up every evening, so you never know what you’ll be watching next! Enjoy Family Activities, Movies Under the Stars, and More at the Walt Disney World Resort Hotels The NANNY Chairs In the lobby of the BoardWalk Inn, you’ll find the iconic (and downright terrifying) nanny chairs. These spooky-looking seats often sit on either side of the fireplace, and their faces will probably haunt your nightmares for the foreseeable future. Now THAT is a nightmare, or should we say “nightCHAIR” These types of chairs were originally designed for nannies to sit and take a break while children rode carousels, but now there are a few of them that call BoardWalk Inn home. And as a fun little bonus — if you look at the back of them, you’ll see that they’re each painted with a unique name. Did You Know About These 9 Hidden Secrets in Disney World Hotels? A Mardi Gras Jubilee Laissez les bon temps rouler! There’s one place in Disney World where it’s Mardi Gras all year long… but on the actual day of Mardi Gras, the celebration amps up tenfold. Port Orleans Riverside AND French Quarter both celebrate Mardi Gras each year — though most of the party can be found on the French Quarter side. Princess Tiana in the Mardi Gras Parade During this past Mardi Gras holiday, Port Orleans activities and celebrations included: The Port Orleans Mardi Gras Pargo Parade from 10AM to 11AM (which stretches across both resorts, but starts in Riverside around Building 80) Mardi Gras Courtyard Crafts from 12PM to 4PM in the French Quarter courtyard And a Mardi Gras Party from 5PM to 10PM — which also took place in the French Quarter courtyard (after all the crafting had wrapped up for the day). REVIEW: This Disney World Restaurant BETRAYED Us…But It Might Still Be Worth a Visit Table Service Foods To-Go You might already be familiar with Mobile Order for the regular counter service spots around Disney World — but did you know that select table service restaurants at Disney World’s hotels (specifically) also offer a mobile order option that will let you take those items on the go?! Sanaa Spots like Sanaa, Steakhouse 71, and a handful of others will let you grab your favorite dishes and take them with you — meaning you can grab a meal from your one of your favorite sit-down locations and go enjoy it from the comfort of your room while watching reruns of Mickey Mouse cartoons. Surrey Bike Rentals Have you long dreamed of riding in a surrey with a fringe on top? No…? Well… maybe you will NOW! You can rent a surrey bike for two to four people at resorts like BoardWalk Inn, Old Key West Resort, Port Orleans — Riverside and French Quarter, and Saratoga Springs, too! Surrey Bikes at Old Key West Now how’s THAT for getting around in style?? Take a Day Off During Your Walt Disney World Vacation A Former Wave Machine I know Polynesian Village has been getting a lot of attention lately, due to all the construction going on over there with the new DVC building (that’s slated to open later this year), but let’s take a quick look into the Polynesian Village’s past for just a second (because it’s actually pretty cool). Back in the ye ol’ days, there used to be a wave machine installed in Seven Seas Lagoon that gave guests the chance to — get this — legit SURF on the lagoon. Buuuuut the wave machine worked a little too well, and the strong waves started to cause damage. Surf Pool at Typhoon Lagoon While it only lasted for about a year, you can still sign up for private surf lessons on Disney World property, over at Typhoon Lagoon! 27 Extremely RARE Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do in Disney World Hey, Disney! Hey, Disney! is a bit of a controversial newer feature in the Disney World hotel rooms, but this virtual assistant works very similarly to an A-L-E-X-A. So it’ll answer questions about Disney World, play Disney music and soundscapes, tell you Disney bedtime stories, and just be an all-around helpful tool if you want it to be. Hey, Disney But if you DON’T want it to be? Just turn it off! It’s got an off-button right there on the top of the device, which Disney encourages you to use if that makes you feel more comfortable during your stay. Click HERE to learn MUCH more about “Hey, Disney!” Stormalong Bay Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts might share a feature pool between the two of ‘em, but — trust me — there’s a REASON. Stormalong Bay is MORE than just a pool. It’s practically a mini-water park — with over 3 acres of sunshine-y fun, featuring the highest Disney resort water slide (at 230 feet), a lazy river, 3 whirlpool spas, and a sand-bottom pool area! Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Beach Club WARNING! Stormalong Bay WILL BE CLOSING for an extended refurb from January 2025-June 2025. So if Stormalong Bay is a KEY REASON why you wanna book either of these hotels, make sure it’ll actually be OPEN when you’re planning on visiting. (Otherwise, you may wanna book a room someplace else.) Click Here to Check Out the FULL List of Refurbishments Here! Electrical Water Pageant The Electrical Water Pageant is a 15 minute show that happens in Disney’s Seven Seas Lagoon, running nightly between 8:25 PM to 10:30 PM (though hours are subject to change) starting up right before Happily Ever After takes place. This light parade features a fun and quirky lineup of aquatic creatures, American Flags, and a catchy synthetic soundtrack. Electrical Water Pageant You’ll find this parade passing by nightly through the Magic Kingdom resort area, right on past the waters in front of Polynesian Village, the Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, the Contemporary Resort, and outside the entrance of Magic Kingdom park, too. 5. Are you at that point where basically nothing shocks you anymore? (I know we are!) Cinderella Castle So, about that, here we were minding our business and having a great time at Magic Kingdom when we had the unexpected happen. We’re talking about a specific ride revelation that had us shook. Let’s talk about it! As we were saying, we knew that something was up when we started noticing that quite a few of the attractions at Magic Kingdom were showing that they were temporarily closed in the My Disney Experience app. Just take a look: ©Disney All in all, we noticed that these 13 (!!!) attractions were down at Magic Kingdom: Astro Orbiter The Barnstormer Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Dumbo the Flying Elephant Jungle Cruise Liberty Square Riverboat The Magic Carpets of Aladdin Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Swiss Family Treehouse Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Tom Sawyer Island Tomorrowland Speedway Walt Disney World Railroad Now what’s the thread that connects all of these attractions?? They’re all outdoor attractions and they all closed at the same time due to inclement weather! Storms at Magic Kingdom Had we not been looking at the app at the time of the storms, it might have slipped our notice that so many of the attractions close at Magic Kingdom whenever there are storms in the area (more so than any of the other parks). Magic Kingdom is already looking dark and gloomy this morning. You’ll have to keep in mind that during the rainy season, (which is practically all year long) if you’re headed to Magic Kingdom, you’ll need to keep an eye on the weather so that it won’t affect your time there. Now, also remember that a lot of days, inclement weather comes and goes quickly at Disney World. So while you watch many people head for the exits, you may want to find a spot (like an indoor ride or show, a shop, or an indoor restaurant) to wait things out — you could be treated to a less-crowded park (and shorter lines!) when the weather clears up and the rides re-open. Our best advice is to find a weather app where it’s easy to watch the live radar and have it downloaded to your phone before your trip. That way you can see how long the bad weather is expected to last and make more informed decisions on what to do next. Until then, stay tuned to DFB for the latest! We’ve got you covered. 6. Yes, maybe it’s a little early to be thinking ahead to the holidays…okay, we’re JOKING because it’s never too early to think about the holidays in Disney World. EPCOT Festival of the Holidays Tickets are already on sale for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in Magic Kingdom, after all. You can also buy tickets now for Jollywood Nights in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which is returning for its second year. So YES, let’s start thinking about the holiday season in Disney World. We’re also looking forward to this year’s EPCOT Festival of the Holidays, with all its great food, entertainment, and holiday cheer. Now, we need to talk about TWO offerings we’ll see return for this year’s festival. When we were checking out Disney’s latest audition notices, we spotted an audition call for “Vocalists for Candlelight Voices of Liberty.” Disney is looking for ensemble vocalists for a holiday cast of the Voice of Liberty for the Candlelight Processional. This reaffirms that the Candlelight Processional will return to EPCOT this year for the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays. YAY! ©Disney The Candlelight Processional generally takes place at the American Gardens Theatre at the American Adventure Pavilion in EPCOT, but we don’t have confirmation of the location for 2024’s festival just yet. It’s likely it will return there, as the upcoming EPCOT Food & Wine Festival’s Eat to the Beat concert series will continue at that location, rather than move to CommuniCore Hall and Plaza, which Disney has previously said would be used for festivals. Candlelight Processional Disney also posted another audition notice for actors for the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays. The audition notice confirms that Disney is looking for actors to be the Storytellers at the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays — those performers who tell stories about the traditions of each country’s pavilion in World Showcase. ©Disney These audition notices are confirmation that both the Storytellers and Candlelight Processional will return this year for the festival. Talk about a DREAM job, right?! The EPCOT Festival of the Holidays will run from November 29th through December 30th. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 7. Perks at Disney World are a great thing, right? Suitcases at Disney World We love a good Disney World hotel perk whether it is early entry into the parks, discounts on merch or food, or even more. That reminds us of the perks that we’ve lost over the past years, specifically of one free hotel luggage perk that disappeared from Disney World and how we’re still not over it! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. What was the perk we were talking about? Great question. So, it was one of the lesser-known perks you used to get at the Disney World hotels — the humble luggage scale. In the grand scheme of things, it was a small perk, but boy was it handy. It’s been gone for a while, and honestly, we’re still not over it. ©AllEars.net So what’s the deal with this perk? Well, picture this. You’ve spent a whole week at Disney World and you’ve bought all kinds of souvenirs (ears, pins, plushies, and maybe even a droid from Galaxy’s Edge), and now your suitcase is looking like it’s bursting at the seams. ©themagicforless.com Now, the last thing we need is a surprise at the airport like an overweight luggage fee. This is where the luggage scale at the resort came in handy because it allowed you to weigh your bags before heading to the airport, which ultimately spared you from having to shuffle stuff around in front of a line of impatient travelers. ©AllEars.net But nowadays you won’t find the scales as they have vanished right along with the resort airline check-in counters. In case you missed it, Disney World used to have these counters where you could check your luggage right there at the hotel. It was kind of like a TSA pre-check. They’d even take your luggage to the airport for you. Alas, those days are gone, and with them, the luggage scales. ©themagicforless.com So what are we to do now? You could try the old “hold your luggage and step on the bathroom scale” trick, but maybe a lot of us don’t want to know our weight after all the vacation churros. Plus, bathroom scales aren’t exactly the most precise for weighing our suitcases. ©AllEars.net A better thing to do is to pack a portable luggage scale like this one you can find on Amazon. It’ll take out all of the guesswork. ©Amazon While it’s not the same as the hotel scale, it’ll save you some stress and potentially some money. View on Amazon Also, who knows? Maybe one day Disney World will bring back the scales and the resort airline check-in, and we can all breathe a collective sigh of relief. Airline Check-In That was a quick look back at an underrated Disney hotel perk, and we’d love to hear about your experience with it. Until then, we’ll keep bringing you all the latest updates from Disney World, so keep it right here at DFB for that and more! 8. We have to ask: when it’s hot in Disney World (like almost ALWAYS, at least in the summer), what’s your go-to cold summer treat? La Cantina de San Angel Okay, we know a LOT of you will probably say Dole Whip without even thinking about it, although many of you might not turn your nose up at a frozen margarita. 9. Can you believe DFB has been around for 15 years? EPCOT Monorail In that time, we have eaten a LOT of Disney food, including visiting EVERY SINGLE restaurant and trying all the new snacks. We’ve also spent a lot of time taking photos of food and merchandise, capturing those spontaneous magical moments that often happen in the parks, and visiting every single Disney World hotel. So we KNOW Disney World, and we’re sharing something we bet you didn’t know: There are Disney World commandments that you’ve probably broken. No, REALLY! What do you do when there's a nearly 3-month gap between the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival and the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival? You throw yourself a big old DFB Mega Fest! We've got loads of giveaways, behind the scenes content, and untold crazy stories from AJ Wolfe and the DFB team. Come celebrate DFB Mega Fest with us! Eat at least one Mickey-shaped snack Can you even say you’ve been to Disney World if you haven’t eaten a snack shaped like Mickey or Mickey’s head? Yes, we know, it’s SO overdone, but we don’t make the rules (okay, we sorta’ are here, but whatever). You have to have at least ONE Mickey snack during each Disney World trip. Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich At least you have a lot of Mickey-shaped foods to choose from: Mickey waffles, Mickey ice cream sandwiches, Mickey bars (always a classic), Mickey pretzels, and more. The Ultimate Disney World Pretzel Crawl Take a photo of/with Cinderella Castle You absolutely cannot leave Disney World without at least ONE photo of Cinderella Castle, as well as one photo of each of the park icons: the Tree of Life in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the Tower of Terror in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Spaceship Earth in EPCOT. Bonus points if you take a photo in front of each (and don’t forget you can get some great photos from Disney PhotoPass photographers!). You have to get the one good castle shot! Want even more fun photos with the park icons? Get a photo of you looking scared in front of Tower of Terror or snap a video of you singing (or lip-syncing) “Circle of Life” in front of the Tree of Life. You can also make your best princess pose in front of Cinderella Castle because YOLO! 8 Wild Disney World Photos That Will Make You Say, “Not Today, Satan” At least one kid has one meltdown per day If you’re traveling with kids in Disney World, it’s a rule that at least one of those kids has to have a meltdown during a given day. Likely, it’s going to happen, regardless. Kids can get quickly overwhelmed at Disney World, and they can tire out easily, especially after spending so much time walking MILES around the parks. A meltdown is imminent. Daisy and Donald Pro tip: Take breaks. We’re actually encouraging you to try to break this commandment. Make sure you’re not pushing your kid too hard and let them dictate the pace of the day. If there is a meltdown, get somewhere quiet (or go back to the hotel for a break). However, if you’re the one having the meltdown…well, all we can suggest is grabbing a Dole Whip or margarita and enjoying some time for yourself. 5 Places to Escape in Disney’s Hollywood Studios When Your Anxiety Is Through the Roof Point out every hidden Mickey to everyone in your group If you’ve been to Disney World multiple times, it’s your job…no, your DUTY…to point out every single hidden Mickey you’ve found on previous trips. Or you could send your entire party out on a hidden Mickey scavenger hunt. Who needs to ride anything when there are hidden Mickeys to be discovered? A Hidden Mickey! Okay, so maybe that’s taking things a LITTLE too far, but pointing out hidden details could be interesting for your group…or not. But it’s still fun to show off that bit of knowledge you have, right? This RARE Hidden Mickey Is Only Visible for 15 Minutes a YEAR in Disney World You must always wave at characters when they pass by Okay, this is just about not being rude. If a character walks by you, you HAVE to wave at them, furiously, like you’re desperately trying to get their attention. If they’re passing by super close, you could even ask for a high five. Trust us, there is NOTHING better than a high five with Goofy or Chewbacca. ALWAYS wave at characters This applies to parades, too: we don’t care how tired your arm gets — you have to wave to all the characters walking by. They expect it! Plus, sometimes, it gets you a little special extra interaction with those characters. Where to Find All the Disney Character Meet-and-Greets in Walt Disney World You must mention how hot it is Welcome to Florida where it’s not just the heat, but the humidity. If you’re visiting Disney World in any season that isn’t winter, it’s probably going to be hot. You’ll be sweating out of places you didn’t know you even had, so, obviously, you have to comment about how hot it is at LEAST three times per day. You know…just in case no one else knew. It gets HOT in Disney World Even better? Be sure to ask others “Is it hot enough for ‘ya?” In all seriousness, though, hydrate and try to keep as cool as you can! 5 Amazon Essentials to Survive the Heat in Disney World You must sing along to “Big Blue World” while riding The Seas with Nemo and Friends We don’t always encourage you to sing along on rides, but you HAVE to sing “Big Blue World” when you’re just chilling in your little shell vehicle on The Seas with Nemo and Friends. “Can you believe there are so many things? In the big blue world?” The Seas with Nemo and Friends That is if you’re not taking a nap. We’ll also accept taking a nap on this chill ride that you didn’t have to wait in line for. Just remember that fish are friends…not food. Unless, of course, you’re eating lunch at Coral Reef Restaurant. Ranking Every Single Ride in EPCOT Laugh at EVERY joke on Jungle Cruise Jungle Cruise is your one-stop shop for every bad Dad joke and pun on the planet. Even if you don’t think those jokes are funny (and you would be wrong), but you are required to laugh at each and every joke or your Skipper might just leave you out in the jungle somewhere to survive the dangers that lie there…or worse, the MONKEYS. Jungle Cruise You must also ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS say the most important line from the ride with the skipper “The back side of water!” Although, warning: you’ll occasionally get that snarky Skipper who will change that line on the fly JUST to ruin your day (it’s happened to us!). We love Jungle Cruise skippers, though — they are THE BEST. 50 Mistakes To Avoid in Disney World Survive It’s Tough To Be a Bug at least once per trip It’s Tough to Be a Bug in Animal Kingdom is a rite of passage for each trip to Disney World. Yes, it’s the stinkiest ride in all of Disney World, and the Broadway musical numbers in the queue done by insects is…well, interesting. Seriously, there is a lot you have to tolerate here: getting stung, getting blasted with a bug fart, and getting splashed by acid. It’s Tough To Be A Bug It’s a shame that this ride may be going away soon to make room for a Zootopia-themed attraction. 2 New Rules Announced for Disney World in 2025 You must groan at least once about your back after Space Mountain First, you have to ride Space Mountain. Yes, we know this ride is like going to a really bad chiropractor and will shake every bone loose in your body. But that’s the point. It’s a MUST. Then you have to grunt and groan when you try to get out of the ride vehicle, but you also need to make sure to complain about your back after the ride. Space Mountain This one is easy because unless you’re under 18, Space Mountain will make your back hurt. And you need to let everyone know about it. It’s like bragging rights on how you barely survived Space Mountain. 3 Disney World Rides that Need to be Boarded Up and Never Spoken of Again So there you have it, the commandments of Disney World. 10. EPCOT is a BUSY park — not only is it home to some of our favorite restaurants AND festivals when it’s the right time of year, but it’s also home to some of the most popular attractions in Disney World. EPCOT This means that the park itself can be crowded, and lines for certain attractions can be pretty intense sometimes. One of our favorite ways to skip all the lines was to purchase a ticket for EPCOT’s After Hours event, which allows a smaller group of guests into the park after it closes (for a separate fee). Well, we have an important update to share about this handy skip-the-line trick. According to the Disney World calendar, all tickets for EPCOT’s 2024 After Hours Events are now SOLD OUT. This event has occurred on select nights from February 2nd through July 18th. It runs from 10PM to 1AM and allows access to nearly all the park’s attractions (including Cosmic Rewind with a standby line!) with low wait times. Not only that, attendees get unlimited free popcorn, bottled soft drinks, and packaged ice cream snacks, which are included with the price of a ticket. EPCOT After Hours Ticketholders can also get into EPCOT starting at 7PM to get the most out of their ticket. However, now that tickets are sold out for the remaining event this season, you may be out of luck. Unfortunately, tickets aren’t sold at the gate, so when they’re gone, they’re gone! Mickey Bar by World Showcase Now, tickets are still available for the remaining seven Hollywood Studios After Hours events, which take place on select nights through August 29th. This event offers many of the same perks, but takes place from 9:30PM-12:30AM with entry beginning as early as 7PM. Meeting Mickey! We’ve been to these After Hours events and can say that if you’re looking for the best way to skip pretty much ALL the lines in the park and encounter minimal crowds, this is the way to go, but we’d recommend buying it INSTEAD of a regular park day ticket for the same day. It can be a great idea to spend the majority of the day in a different park and then hop over to the After Hours event to get the most out of your day, OR if you’ve visited before and don’t want to do absolutely everything, you can just purchase the After Hours ticket and spend the rest of the day relaxing at your hotel or exploring Disney Springs. 13. D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event is coming soon! The event will be taking place from August 9th through August 11th, 2024 in Anaheim, CA. This event will feature lots of fantastic experiences including appearances from Disney execs, celebrities, Imagineers, and so much more. Plus, there are sure to be some BIG announcements! ©Disney If you are attending this year’s event, you will want to know about the Reservation Random Selection Process, or Reservation RSP, that will be utilized for the event. The Reservation RSP will allow you to make reservation requests for select panels, presentations, talent signings, and show floor experiences ahead of the event. Now, we know you may be thinking that this will require you to get up early to try and beat everyone else who is also hoping to make reservations for the events. However, we have some great news! The Reservation RSP will not require you to get up super early OR compete against every other attendee to get onto the site first. D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event Instead, the Reservation RSP will be open for multiple days and you will just need to log in during the period to make your selections. The Reservation RSP system will open at 12PM PT on July 15th and will stay open until 12PM PT on July 19th. There is no advantage to logging in early and making your selections first, as all the reservations will be randomly assigned. There will be three different categories of events, and you will be able to select four items from each category. The categories are Stage Presentations, Talent Central, and Show Floor Experiences. D23 Media Event The Stage Presentations category will include reservations for sessions at Premiere Stage presented by Fandango, The Walt Disney Archives Stage, Backlot Stage, and Hyperion Stage. Talent Central includes reservations for talent photos and signings at Talent Central, and Show Floor Experiences provides reservations for experiences happening in booths around the Show Floor. Within each category, you can select up to four events and choose to bring up to seven guests with you for each selection. An important note is that the Reservation RSP is NOT for evening shows at the Honda Center. These presentations are for D23 Ultimate Fan Pass ticket holders only and there are no reservations OR stand-by queues available. Show Floor Highlights If you make selections in the Reservation RSP, you will then be notified via email between August 2nd and August 5th if you have any confirmed selections. There is no guarantee that you will get a spot for all of your requests. If you don’t get a reservation for a particular event, standby queues will still be available for most of the panels and experiences in the Anaheim Convention Center. We can’t WAIT! Now, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of how to actually make your selections through the Reservation RSP. Beginning Monday, July 15th at 12PM PT you will be able to navigate to the Reservation RSP via the D23 website. Once you have navigated to the Reservation RSP you will need to sign in to your D23 Member account. After you have logged in, you will see a reservation screen where you will make your selections. ©Disney On the reservation screen, you will see each of the three categories and the ability to “Add Selections” for each one. You can choose up to four items per category. ©Disney Once you have chosen your four items in the category you will be able to rank your requests from high to low. After you have ranked the events, you can “Continue with Selections.” ©Disney Next up, you will need to select how many guests will be joining you for the event. You can bring up to seven additional guests with you, and you will choose how many for each event on the next page. You can choose a different number of guests for each event. You will follow this same process for each of the three categories, and then you will have a chance to review all of your selections. ©Disney Once you have chosen events for each of the three categories, you will be able to make any edits and then click on “Review Selections” to take another look at them. ©Disney If you are happy with your selections, you can click “Submit” and you are all set! If you are a bit undecisive, no worries! You can modify your selections as much as you want until 12PM PT on July 19th. Children under 18 years old will not be able to make reservations, but they can accompany adults with reservations as one of their additional guests. ©Disney We are getting really excited for this year’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event and we will be bringing you full coverage of the event and ALL the announcements! The Reservation RSP opens on July 15th, so make sure you are deciding which events you would most like to attend. You have until July 19th at 12PM PT to finalize your selections. 14. Are the old wait times trends in Disney World finally back to normal? Seven Dwarfs Mine Train After Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith’s reopening threw Disney World’s wait times into a bit of flux, things returned to relative normalcy this week. Though notably, demand for the classic coaster remained high, making Hollywood Studios the only one of Disney World’s four parks to have TWO rides with waits that averaged over an hour. Take a look at this week’s average wait times — going from highest to lowest! Magic Kingdom Wait Times The Magic Kingdom park wait times stayed pretty stable this week, even though longtime fan-favorite and heavily in-demand attraction Peter Pan’s Flight closed for refurbishment. 16. It has been 15 years since I started the Disney Food Blog. Like many entrepreneurs, I started it as a side hustle while I was working full-time. I was passionate about Disney World, and NO ONE was really talking about the FOOD. REAL plastic cheese From LIME Dole Whip to Plastic Cheese to the original Carrot Cake Cookie, I started sharing all of my favorites — as well as the tips and tricks for planning a Disney World vacation I’ve learned from years of Disney travel — and people (like YOU, THANK YOU!!) started following along. And then came the time to decide to stop working for other people and make that side hustle my full-time gig. But man, there are some things I know now that I wish I knew then. I am an unlikely entrepreneur. I’m highly anxious. I’m historically a perfectionist. I’m not friends with failure. I’m 45 and kind of tired. I need you to understand that Lime Dole Whip is the best Dole Whip. THE END And there are 5 (and honestly so many more, but I’ll reign it in!) things I wish someone had told me before I stepped into the full-time world of building my own brand and surviving on the income from it. But I’ve been doing this for 15 years now, and have achieved so many of my dreams. So even unlikely entrepreneurs and creators can succeed! This is honest, real life stuff. I don’t have time to waste your time. These are mistakes and errors and solutions for both. The Original Carrot Cake Cookie (IYKYK) Connect with as many people as you can. Colleagues, influential people, followers, creators, anybody interesting that you meet in the park or the cafe. The core tactics of career building have not changed even though everything is now online. You have to connect, connect, connect. Yum! Never stop thinking of yourself as a start-up. If you’re in digital media, the landscape changes every single day. You have never “made it.” You will always have something new to learn, another platform to explore, another audience to reach. Be flexible, look for ways to change with the times, and don’t assume there’s a finish line. We love Disney food! Learn to rest, not to quit. One of my colleagues shared this with me once and it has been life-changing. Everyone hits a moment — many moments — when they want to throw in the towel. They want to quit. It’s not worth it. And, no joke, it may not be worth it in that moment. But instead of cutting the cord to your company, take a few days off. Take a week off. Go somewhere else if you can. Get a change of surroundings. And once you separate yourself from the situation, you will have perspective to make the big decisions. Grilled Cheeeeeese Nobody cares what you think. Sorry to be harsh, but it’s true. It’s your job to MAKE people care about your opinions, your thoughts, your experiences…by making sure you’re adding value to their lives with each and every article or podcast or video. Yet I often have folks ask me how to break into becoming a “creator,” and when I ask them what their concept is, it’s some version of “What I think about X, Y, Z.” Who cares what you think? Nobody does…unless there’s something in it for them. How are you going to make your content useful and helpful? How are you going to solve a problem for somebody? The best way to build an audience isn’t by tricking them into caring what you think…it’s by authentically trying to add value to their lives in the first place. Ronto Wrap Find a sounding board who will tell you the truth. There have been projects I’ve worked tirelessly on, that I’ve LOVED and been passionate about…that have been total duds. Most of these have had some element of humor, and I’m just not a funny person LOL! But one of the greatest gifts you can have as someone who creates art or content or whatever…is an honest friend who will give you useful opinions. Not someone who just says “that’s good.” or “that’s bad.” But someone who says “what if you did this instead,” or “that was awesome right up until the third paragraph and then you lost me…can you break that down a little more?” There’s nothing more valuable than people who are genuinely cheering for you, but are also willing to be straightforward with constructive criticism. 18. If you’re looking ahead at planning a future Disney World vacation, we’ve got an important heads-up for you! Grand Slam Pool at All-Star Sports When it comes to planning a Disney World trip, there are certain times of the year that you may want to avoid if you’re trying to beat the crowds (as much as possible, that is). Some of those ultra-busy times are a little more obvious, like during major holidays, long weekends, or spring break. But sometimes there are other, more under-the-radar events happening around Disney World that can also come with unexpected crowds! A major example of those sneaky, crowd-drawing events are the athletic competitions that are often held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Disney World. The complex is huge and hosts events that feature thousands of athletes each year from multiple sports, including cheerleading, soccer, baseball, and more. ESPN Wide World of Sports And another athletic competition has made it onto the upcoming schedule at ESPN Wide World of Sports! Ripken Baseball, a youth baseball organization, announced plans to host premier youth baseball experiences at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in the summers of 2025 and 2026, which will include four week-long tournaments each year. Baseball Stadium The Ripken Experience at Walt Disney World Resort will give teams from around the country the chance to compete in world-class tournaments for ages 10U to 16U. The games will take place across 11 ballfields, including six youth-sized fields and five professional-sized fields. Home Plate In addition to the competition, the experience includes leisure time for players and their families to explore the Disney parks, which means a bump in crowds could be possible throughout the tournament. Dugout Each week-long experience will include a minimum of six games and a maximum of nine games, plus opening day ceremonies and skills competitions. The tournament dates for 2025 are as follows: Week 1: June 8th, 2025 to June 13th, 2025 Week 2: June 15th, 2025 to June 20th, 2025 Week 3: June 22nd, 2025 to June 27th, 2025 Week 4: July 6th, 2025 to July 11th, 2025 Specific dates for 2026 will be announced later. Wide World of Sports If you’re planning a Disney vacation for the summer of 2025, keep in mind that you could experience some extra crowds from the baseball tournament. In particular, you may want to be mindful of booking a stay at Disney’s All-Star Hotels during those dates, as athletes that are in Disney World for competitions often stay in those hotels due to their proximity to ESPN Wide World of Sports and their value price point. All-Star Sports We’ll report back if we spot any other newly scheduled events happening around Disney World that could impact your vacation plans, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest news! 22. Something is almost ALWAYS under construction in Disney World. Grand Floridian Resort We spent YEARS staring at construction walls in EPCOT (but most of those are gone now). There’s a ton of construction over at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, too, where two new restaurants will be opening soon. There’s been quite a bit of construction at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, including at one of its stores, M. Mouse Mercantile, which closed temporarily. Now, that store has reopened with a brand-new look. Yes, that’s right. M. Mouse Mercantile has reopened, and it looks a LOT different. Let’s head on over and see what’s changed about the store. M. Mouse Mercantile Here’s what the store looked like before it temporarily closed. M. Mouse Mercantile before As you can see, it got a complete upgrade. The carpet is gone and has been replaced by a tile floor. There’s also hardwood floor edging around the new floor. You’ll also notice that the columns have been painted mint green. Upgrade! Here’s a closer look at that new flooring — there are hidden Mickeys throughout. We see hidden Mickeys! There’s also a new floral chandelier above the store now that adds an elegant touch. Modern chandelier Here’s what the counter looked like before. Old counter Here’s what it looks like now. That mint green color has been carried throughout the shop. There’s also new artwork behind the cashiers, featuring Mickey and Minnie in front of the Grand Floridian — so pretty! The entire area has been refined and cleaned out a bit, so it doesn’t look as busy. New counter The store’s interior has also been reorganized so it looks more modern and sleek. The flooring here looks like marble. New look! There’s a pretty floral wallpaper on several elements, too. Wallpaper Here’s a closer look at that new wallpaper. So pretty We also love these new figures of Mickey and Minnie that are on display. Very elegant and fashionable! Mickey and Minnie Be sure to pop into the store the next time you visit the Grand Floridian — it’s looking VERY different now. And stay tuned to DFB for more. 23. Disney World has changed A LOT over the last few years! Magic Kingdom We have gotten to experience so many new attractions, like Tron Lightcycle / Run and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Magic Kingdom. EPCOT’s multi-year transformation was just completed and brought us rides like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. There is still so much in store as Test Track is currently being re-imagined with inspiration from its predecessor, World of Motion. Magic Kingdom is about to have the Country Bear Jamboree open up once again with a new show! While we have gotten so many new attractions, there is one trend that is really defining 2024 at Disney World. We have seen a lot of things that make Disney World feel like Disney World come and go. We said goodbye to FastPass+ and hello to Genie+. When Disney World re-opened after the pandemic, we lost the Disney Dining Plan and even park hopping! It was uncertain if we would ever see these offerings again. R.I.P FastPass+ It may not always seem like Disney is listening, but trust us, the Mouse hears all, and it has really shown in 2024. Disney has been reinstating many of our favorite things, and that is all thanks to YOU! Fan feedback has been critical in Disney deciding what offerings should make their return. He is always listening! This year alone, so many offerings have come back! Cast Member pin trading has made its return! Cast Members can now trade pins that they have on their lanyard or pin pouch with guests! Cast Members trading pins This is a great way for Cast Members to get to interact with people and can create a magical moment! Time to trade! The Disney Dining Plan FINALLY made its return this year! This can make it so much easier for those vacationing at Disney World to pay for their snacks and meals upfront and not have to worry about it when their vacation rolls around. Everything That is Different about the Disney Dining Plan in 2024 Park hopping is finally back, too! We know it has been confusing following along with Park Pass Reservations and rules on when you can park hop. While Park Pass Reservations are still around for some people, park hopping is BACK! EPCOT Monorail Gone are the days of waiting until 2PM to park hop! Having all-day park hopping back makes it so much easier for you to enjoy your vacation and experience more without having to wait to park hop! Tower of Terror One of the biggest changes is Genie+’s transition into Lightning Lane Multi and Single Pass. Many people had many complaints and challenges with Genie+, and just as we were finally figuring it out, Disney announced a new system! CHANGES are coming JULY 24TH! Lightning Lane Multi Pass reminds us of our old pal, FastPass+. Just like FastPass+, you will now be able to book experiences BEFORE you visit the park. Attractions are also divided into tiers, allowing you to hold three Lightning Lane selections at once. New Lightning Lane changes are coming Unfortunately, unlike FastPass+, Lightning Lane Multi and Single Pass are not free and are still paid for skip-the-line services like Genie+. Lightning Lane Lightning Lane Multi and Single Pass officially start operating on July 24th. We are eager to see how the new system compares to Genie+ and are keeping our fingers crossed that it works even better! Scanning into a Lightning Lane at Disney World We are so happy that Disney is taking fan feedback into account, and we think this is a great trend this year! 25. It is summertime in Florida, which means that Disney World can be hot, rainy, and humid. Rainy day in Magic Kingdom On top of the elements, you do A LOT of walking at Disney World, so you need to make sure you have comfortable shoes. There is one problem that could ruin your Disney World vacation if you are not careful with the type of shoes you wear. We asked Disney fans, AKA our awesome readers, if they experience this painful problem. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Rain, heat, and being on your feet all day? We probably sound crazy for braving the elements to visit the parks, but we love it! However, you do walk a lot in Disney World, and blisters can RUIN your trip. While these fans have experienced the pain of blisters in Disney World, they also shared great tips to make sure you can avoid them on your next trip! Expect to do a lot of walking in Disney World One of our readers shared that they got caught in a downpour with a long walk ahead of them. At the time, they were wearing Crocs without socks, so their feet were sliding around in their shoes, resulting in big blisters on their heels. They bought Moleskin, which was a lifesaver! Walking in Animal Kingdom Another reader shared that they no longer get blisters at Disney World because they listened to AJ’s tip to bring Moleskin! It is tried and true! People walking in Magic Kingdom Another reader shared that KT Tape works great as a blister cover. This tape is worn by athletes and can withstand heat, which is especially important in Florida during the summer. Walking around World Showcase A reader shared that for them, “KT strips work like a champ!” KT tape is also a great way to secure Bandages and ensure that they do not peel or slip off throughout the day. You can precut strips and keep them with you in case you need to reapply. There’s a lot of walking involved! Another reader suggested using blister Bandaids as they have saved the day for them multiple times! Walking In Many other readers shared their stories, saying that “blister Bandages work great,” “I always carry blister Bandages with me,” and “blister bandages are AMAZING.” Be prepared to be on your feet! To carry all of your blister supplies, we suggest bringing a small pouch or first aid kit with you to the parks. This way, all of your supplies are in one place and not just thrown in your park bag. First Aid Kit We like this first aid kit and bring it to the parks with us. It is especially a lifesaver on long park days. It has 130 pieces and includes tweezers, tape, bandages, wipes, and tons of other helpful things! First Aid Kit It is also safe to bring through TSA and comes in a variety of patterns and colors! First Aid Kit Buy it Here! Don’t let blisters ruin your park day! Remember to wear comfortable shoes and come prepared with a kit in case blisters start to form throughout the day. Also, remember that it is hot in the summertime at Disney World, so continue to apply sunscreen throughout the day and remember to stay hydrated!
