One of my favorite attractions at Disneyland isn’t a ride — it’s the food! With more than 70 restaurants and eateries in Disneyland park, you could easily build an itinerary dedicated to dining. We put together a handy guide to the different types of dining experiences at Disneyland park, including menu recommendations and money-saving tips. You’ll find there’s something for a variety of palates, time preferences and price points. If you’re planning to visit both theme parks, be sure to also check out our guide to dining experiences at Disney California Adventure park. On-the-Go Snack Carts and Market Stands Carts and market stands are conveniently located throughout the park, making it easy to pick up a beverage or snack on the way to your next attraction or show. Snack carts are where you’ll find iconic Disneyland treats, such as churros, popcorn, turkey legs and Mickey Mouse-shaped pretzels. Market stands offer bottled sodas, whole fruit, pickles and more. Must-try snacks include: Spicy pickles from Fantasyland Fruit Cart Whole fruits from Tropical Imports Garlic cheesy pretzel bread from Maurice’s Treats Quick-Service Restaurants Quick-service restaurants offer delicious and budget-friendly bites, which can be ordered at a walk-up counter. Many locations also offer mobile ordering through the Disneyland app.* These eateries can satisfy all kinds of cravings, from barbecue and Southern-style to Mexican, Italian and more! Some choices can be an especially great value because they are generous for one person or can be shared between two people. You also have the flexibility to enjoy your meal in the restaurant’s seating area or take it away. On a recent visit to Disneyland park, I ordered a Burger Fantasyland faire fold from Red Rose Taverne, then enjoyed it on Main Street, U.S.A., while waiting for the “Paint the Night” parade to begin. Iconic quick-service restaurants: Star Wars-inspired fare from Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo Tacos, burritos and more Mexican cuisine from Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante Hearty American classics, such as hot dogs and chili, from Refreshment Corner Must-try snacks: Turkey leg from Edelweiss Snacks Pepperoni pizza flop-over from Café Daisy DOLE Whip float from The Tropical Hideaway Table-Service Restaurants Table-service restaurants offer multi-course, sit-down meals and a leisurely break from exploring the park. Kick back, relax and enjoy your meal in a themed and casual atmosphere! Most restaurants have kids menus, so there are tasty choices portioned for little ones. Advanced reservations are encouraged and can be booked on Disneyland.com or through the Disneyland app, with availability opening up to 60 days prior. Don’t have a reservation? On the day of your visit, you may be able to add your party to the walk-up list at select table-service restaurants using the Disneyland app (subject to availability). Recommended table-service restaurants: Monte Cristo and other dishes with French Quarter flair from Cafe Orleans Down-home, Southern cooking with a side of riverfront views at River Belle Terrace Comfort foods inspired by some of Walt Disney’s favorites dishes at Carnation Café Character Dining at Disneyland Character dining experiences can be an incredible value for families and character fans. As you dine, multiple Disney characters stop by your table for photos and autographs. Your tummy will be full of yummy food, and your heart will be full from greeting Disney pals! Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park at Plaza Inn is a great way to start a day at Disneyland park! The buffet spread includes made-to-order omelets and Mickey waffles, biscuits and gravy, bacon and sausage, fresh-baked pastries and more. Entertainment Dining Packages and Experiences Select restaurants at Disneyland park offer dining packages, which come with a meal and reserved viewing for a parade or nighttime spectacular, such as “Paint the Night” and “Fantasmic!” A feast for the senses, these bundles are worth it for the unique menu offerings and prime entertainment viewing areas. “Fantasmic!” dining packages are available at three restaurants, at a range of price points and mealtimes. Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante and Cafe Orleans offer standard dining packages for lunch or dinner, which include a voucher to enter a separate viewing area for the show that evening. In addition to a standard package, River Belle Terrace has a premium offering, which features a three-course dinner you’d enjoy while watching the show right from your table. Available now for a limited time, Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo Nighttime Gathering serves savory delectables, sweet treats and beverages before “Fire of the Rising Moons” fireworks display or “Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga” illuminate the spires of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Inspired by flavors from across the galaxy, the menu options include cheeseburger croquettes, wonton citrus-ginger chicken salad taco, pastries, chocolate and more. Insider Tips for Dining at Disneyland Dining discounts: Magic Key annual pass holders and Disney Vacation Club members get special discounts on select food and beverages. To redeem your applicable discounts, make sure your Magic Key ID or Disney Vacation Club membership is linked to your MyDisney account. Plan ahead with mobile ordering: Place your mobile food and beverage orders early in the day, so your meals can be prepared for you to pick up later on. This is especially helpful if you plan to dine during the typical lunch and dinner hours, when the order counters may be busier. Complimentary bottle-filling stations: Another option for fresh water on-the-go, you can refill your personal water bottles at more than 10 bottle-filling stations across Disneyland park. Hungry for more details? You can view the full list of restaurants and menus at Disneyland.com. To discover new and seasonal offerings, check out the Disney Eats section of the Disney Parks Blog and follow @DisneyEats on Instagram. To enter a park, both a theme park reservation and a valid ticket for the same park on the same date is required. Park reservations are limited, subject to availability, and not guaranteed. Parks, attractions, entertainment, experiences, services, and offerings may be modified, limited in availability or unavailable, and are subject to restrictions, and change or cancellation without notice. Park admission and offerings are not guaranteed. When it comes to Disney snacking, it’s a passion of ours! Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort One of our favorite kinds of snacks is the rare, limited-time ones! Luckily for us, Experiment 626 Day brought out rare characters and snacks, so we went over to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to try these extra blue treats. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has so many of our favorite dining spots like Ohana, Trader Sam’s, Kona Cafe, and more! Stitch is a staple at this resort, and you can even have breakfast with him and Lilo at Ohana. For Experiment 626 Day, Stitch’s own holiday, the resort brought out some special eats for the day. Stitch at Ohana First, we stopped by Kona Island to grab the Stitch Dome Cake for $7.99! This is made with confetti cake, mint chocolate chip filling, and fondant décor. The Stitch Dome Cake This guy was SUPER cute! Sadly, the mint made us feel like we were eating cake right after brushing our teeth. Luckily, the mint was more subtle, and if you love mint chocolate chip ice cream, this might be right up your alley. He’s adorable. The cake is a funfetti cake, but it mainly tastes like vanilla with sprinkles in it for color. It’s simple, yet effective. The fondant also doesn’t have much flavor, and it does melt pretty quickly in the heat, so be cautious if you have it outside. The inside! This dessert is simple and really more of an excuse to say you grabbed a Stitch-themed dessert. It was cute and simple, but nothing to knock your socks off. Have a bite! Our second snack was at Pineapple Lanai, and it was the classic Experiment 626 Cone for $5.79! This is made with blue vanilla soft-serve with cotton candy flavor served in a waffle cone, topped with Stitch-inspired white chocolate ears. Experiment 626 Cone This snack is a tried and true treat that comes around each year for any Stitch-related celebrations, and we love it! The cotton candy flavor is subtle but still on the sweeter side. Another look at the cone! It’s simple, sweet, and one you can’t go wrong with! Both of these treats are limited-time only. They are still online even after Experiment 626 Day, so if you want one, you should go ASAP! Stitch has always been a popular character, but with the newest live-action movie and the confirmation of a Lilo and Stitch 2 movie, he’s more popular than ever! ©Disney There have been so many Stitch-y blue treats this year to celebrate the new movie, and these are great additions. Is it just us, or is EVERYTHING under construction in Disney World? Okay, that’s a bit of an overstatement, but seriously, a lot is going on right now. Entrance of EPCOT In EPCOT, Test Track is getting ready to reopen after an extended closure and retheming. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is getting an overhaul in Magic Kingdom, while Frontierland is getting a Cars expansion. PLUS, that park is getting a new Villains Land. Disney’s Hollywood Studios is in the progress of creating a new Monsters, Inc. land and converting Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster into a Muppets ride. In the meantime, Disney also just announced that two popular rides will soon be temporarily closing. For those heading to EPCOT soon, please make a note that Spaceship Earth will be closing on August 25th. Now, don’t get too excited because this seems to be only for a routine refurbishment (aka regular maintenance). Yes, we’re still wondering if this ride will ever get the big update we were once promised, but as it stands, this is probably not it. Anyway, Spaceship Earth will reopen later this year. Spaceship Earth In Magic Kingdom, Under The Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid will be temporarily closing on July 21st. Again, this is just for routine maintenance, and the ride is expected to reopen on July 26th, so this one is a super short closure. Under the Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid We also want to remind you that Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will close on August 4th for some updates that will include a new show scene, updated ride vehicles, and gameplay enhancements. We’ll also keep an eye out for more closures. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more closures, so stay tuned to DFB for more. Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! A popular Disney World ride has finally made its return! We don’t want to hear that you didn’t notice it was gone, WE NOTICED! Magic Kingdom The Magic Kingdom is sort of looking like itself again (hurry up, Big Thunder), as a long-awaited ride has finally reopened! In a year that has been faced with Disney World ride closures, we needed this. After an over five-month waiting period, Astro Orbiter is back! The ride saw a complete and total refurbishment — as almost every piece of the attraction was taken down, repainted, and reinstalled. We are so ready for this ride to be back in Tomorrowland. Astro Orbiter Now, fans of the ride that takes you up into the stars can enjoy it once again. It’s honestly just nice to open up the My Disney Experience app and see that it has a posted wait time. It’s a good thing we had to build our patience for this ride, because the waiting period at Magic Kingdom is about to go up! Tom Sawyer Island Hello, Astro Orbiter, goodbye Tom Sawyer Island! Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square River Boat are permanently closing, and we’re very close to the date when we’ll have to say our goodbyes to them. Magic Kingdom is about to embark on a huge transformation. It’s all going to start with the closure of The Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat. This will happen on July 7th, making the last day of operation July 6th. Piston Peak ©Disney The closure is to make way for a new Cars-themed land! The new land is called Piston Peak, and is set to be like a National Park set in the world of Disney Pixar’s Cars. Disney will be completely reworking that Tom Sawyer area of Frontierland. The new land will offer an immersive and beautiful area filled with trees and water. It will also be home to two new rides! Villains Land ©Disney Magic Kingdom’s construction and transformation don’t end there, as Disney Imagineering will also be bringing a Villains Land to the park. The land will have new attractions and will feature some of your favorite Disney villains, so get ready, you poor unfortunate souls. The area will be going behind Big Thunder, and we’re just WAITING to hear more news on it! Astro Orbiter There’s a lot happening at the Magic Kingdom, and it’s honestly exciting to see it unfold. In the meantime, we’re going to celebrate the win that Astro Orbiter is up and running once again! Make sure to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for all the latest Disney news and updates. Flavors of Florida has officially kicked off at Disney Springs — and you don’t even need a park ticket for this food festival! Culinary Demonstration From June 27th to August 10th, 2025, eateries and restaurants all around Disney Springs are showcasing MORE THAN 90 limited-time dishes and drinks from 45+ restaurants for this event. Not only that, but there are multiple FREE culinary demonstrations hosted by Kroger you can attend — and we’re bringing you along as we experience one! Flavors of Florida brings TONS of exciting new eats and treats to Disney Springs — and it also brings FREE seminars and culinary demonstrations hosted by Kroger! This demonstration was run by House of Blues Restaurant & Bar. Executive Chef Sebastion Amico and his team demonstrated how to cook Florida Fresh Shrimp Etouffée. Chef Sebastion and team This dish was made with shrimp locally sourced from the Florida Gulf, and a rich sauce is served over rice. Our reporter, who tried this, really enjoyed it, and she wasn’t even a shrimp person, in particular. The shrimp here were cooked nicely and were plump and buttery. Florida Fresh Shrimp Etouffee The jasmine rice was nice and well-cooked without being overdone and mushy. The sauce on this dish was excellent — it had a nice Cajun spice, but it was a low heat that wasn’t anything too intense. We really enjoyed this mix of flavors — which is why it’s a good thing that you can get it at the House of Blues all summer long during the Flavors of Florida event! DELICIOUS Keep in mind that these culinary demonstrations are free, but registration is required and can fill up quickly. Major changes are happening all around Disney World right now! Cinderella Castle DinoLand U.S.A. is being transformed into Pueblo Esperanza, and over at Magic Kingdom, new Villains Land and Cars attractions are coming, too. Magic Kingdom is about to look a whole lot different, and Disney just shared the opening date for a new shop coming to Frontierland! This “new” merchandise location invites you to shop for wide-brimmed hats, classic fedoras, customized headwear, and more from Chapel Hats at this stylish shop in Frontierland. ©Disney While Prairie Outpost is a new shop and concept, it’s replacing the former Prairie Outpost & Supply, which sold park treats like Disney character candy apples, crisped cereal treats, cookies, cupcakes, and more. So, instead of selling candy and treats, this shop will now sell hats! There it is! It’s located between Country Bear Jamboree and Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe in Frontierland, so make sure you keep an eye out for it if you’re heading to Magic Kingdom after June 30th when it opens. ©Disney Magic Kingdom is undergoing some serious changes — Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Belle Riverboat close in July to make way for Piston Peak National Park, a new Cars-themed area. Disney World is going through some SERIOUS changes right now. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin At Animal Kingdom, DinoLand U.S.A. is being transformed into Pueblo Esperanza, and over at Magic Kingdom, new Villains Land and Cars attractions are coming. Disney previously announced that Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin would be closing for updates in Magic Kingdom — and now we know that closure is coming on August 4th, 2025. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will close for refurbishment on August 4th, 2025. This means that your last day to try to become a Galactic Hero before the closure is August 3rd. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Disney had previously announced that a new show scene, updated ride vehicles, and gameplay enhancements will be coming to this ride sometime in 2026. ©Disney As part of the new adventure, an all-new character — a friendly robot named “Buddy” — will make sure you’re prepared for your mission. This will also be a great time for you to see some of the new, interactive target features before blasting off. In addition, the ride vehicles are getting a facelift with a new design inspired by the colors of Buzz Lightyear and Star Command. Each vehicle will also come equipped with video monitors that provide real-time scoring updates and other exciting features. ©Disney Oh, and did we mention the HANDHELD BLASTERS? Yep, no more trying to wrench that static blaster into the perfect position — you’ll be able to aim and shoot easily. The new blasters will now include an always-on laser and come in two different colors so you can tell who is aiming at what! ©Disney In addition, the static Z targets found in the attraction today will be upgraded with new technology that will allow them to react and light up when hit. It also opens the door for a few other ideas Imagineers have in mind. The ride is expected to reopen sometime in 2026, though no official opening timeline or date has been shared. ©Disney Want to book a Disney World trip without the stress? EPCOT is changing the outfit game at Disney World! EPCOT While we often recommend dressing comfy for a park day at EPCOT, there are some notable exceptions. Believe it or not, dress codes ARE a thing at some Disney World locations and events, and they can totally change how you go about a park day — especially at EPCOT. The park’s latest upscale dining offering doesn’t require a dress code, but that isn’t stopping Disney Adults from participating in a new trend. Right off the bat, it’s important to note that TWO of EPCOT’s signature dining restaurants REQUIRE a dress code. Both Takumi-Tei in the Japan pavilion, and Monsieur Paul in the France pavilion require guests to “dress accordingly in attire that adheres to the restaurant’s sophisticated and upscale aesthetic. Clothing should be clean, neat and in good condition. Please no swimwear.” Monsieur Paul The dress codes include: “Men must wear khakis, slacks or dress shorts and collared shirts. Jeans may be worn if in good condition. Sport coats are optional. Women must wear Capri pants, skirts, dresses or dress shorts. Jeans may be worn if in good condition. Not permitted are tank tops, flip-flops, swimsuits, swimsuit cover-ups, hats for gentlemen, cut-offs, torn clothing and t-shirts with offensive language and/or graphics.” Monsieur Paul It’s worth noting that these dress codes are ENFORCED. If you don’t adhere, you don’t dine. It’s really that simple. Takumi-Tei However, there are other signature dining experiences at EPCOT and around Disney World that are much more lax regarding a dress code, only asking you to adhere to the simple theme park dress codes. Such is the case with EPCOT’s new lounge — GEO-82. GEO-82 entrance This Spaceship Earth-themed lounge DOES have a rule: Only guests ages 21 and older with a valid ID and an advanced dining reservation are permitted in — making this a total hotspot for Disney Adults. GEO-82 While the lounge has only been less than a month, we’ve already started to notice a fun trend. Even though GEO-82 doesn’t require an elevated dress code — you can enjoy the spot in regular theme park attire without issue — we’ve seen folks decide to dress up slightly if they plan on dining here. Away from the windows We’ve noticed this trend especially among groups of Disney Adults and older crowds. Also worth pointing out, these outfits still seem theme park appropriate and totally comfortable to wear for a full EPCOT day. We have, however, also learned of people going back to their hotel room to change before their reservation, especially if it’s later in the day. Sit at at the bar…trust us. As a reminder, this is totally voluntary! Think something akin to Dapper Day at EPCOT! The basic idea with Dapper Days is to dress up in vintage outfits, as well as encourage creating outfits that put a twist on modern-day Disney themes. Pictured: @alange_realtor @mtorres1119 @saylortremaroli @rayrad These events aren’t sponsored by Disney (they’re brought to us by dapperday.com) and don’t have a strict dress code either, but so many Disney Adults love to go all out simply because it’s FUN! Dapper Day in EPCOT, Pictured: @tymaxham GEO-82 is just another excuse for Disney Adults to get away from the kid stuff for a bit and show up to EPCOT in style, and we’re here for it! New Texas state legislation will require warning labels on thousands of food and beverage items, according to The Washington Post. Minnie lollipops Governor Greg Abbott (R) signed sweeping legislation on June 22nd that requires labels on foods containing 44 dyes or additives that are commonly found in foods in the United States. The new, first-of-their-kind laws will force the food industry to either reformulate its products to avoid warning labels, add the warning labels, stop selling certain products in Texas, or file lawsuits against the legislation. The warnings will primarily apply to baked goods, candy, and drinks. Giant lollipops “When a state as big as Texas requires a warning, that will have an impact on the entire marketplace. No question,” said Scott Faber, a senior vice president at the Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit advocating stronger food safety policies. Sour taffy The United States does not currently have warning labels on food products, though several other countries do. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a proposal previously that would require new labels on the front of packages when a food contains high, medium, or low levels of sodium, saturated fat, and added sugars, and earlier in 2025, banned red dye 3 from US foods and drinks. Some nutrition experts and lawmakers have called for stronger warning labels from the FDA. Stop-sign-shaped labels are used in Chile, Peru, and Mexico, for example. Rock candy The Texas mandate is slightly different, however. The law requires labels on more than 40 artificial colors and additives, including bleached flour, red dye 40, and yellow 5. It also requires companies to add high-contrast labels in “a prominent and reasonably visible” area stating “WARNING: This product contains an ingredient that is not recommended for human consumption by the appropriate authority in Australia, Canada, the European Union, or the United Kingdom.” Snack Wall The food industry lobbied against these labels, saying that the labels would be misleading. “The ingredients used in the U.S. food supply are safe and have been rigorously studied following an objective science- and risk-based evaluation process,” the Consumer Brands Association, a food industry trade group, wrote in a June letter to Abbott urging him to veto the bill. “The labeling requirements of SB 25 mandate inaccurate warning language, create legal risks for brands and drive consumer confusion and higher costs.” Right there in the ingredients list The federal government still has the chance to preempt the law in some cases, like if the FDA determines an ingredient or class of ingredients is safe for human consumption. And, while this legislation only applies to foods and beverages sold in Texas, it could have far-reaching effects for other states looking to adopt similar measures. Summer is here and it’s hot and humid…and well, a little miserable, even in Disney World. Jollywood Nights So maybe we’re starting to think ahead to the holiday season, which not only includes cooler weather, but all the fun holiday decor, merchandise, and PARTIES. Now, we’ve been going to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party in Magic Kingdom FOREVER, but a few years ago, Disney introduced a new holiday party in Disney’s Hollywood Studios known as Jollywood Nights. Well, Jollywood Nights is returning this year and one of the best parts of that party is returning with it. Jollywood Nights is a special after hours ticketed event in Hollywood Studios that’s themed entirely around the holiday season. One of our favorite parts of the evening, though, is The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing-Along. During the show, two Cast Members lead you on an adventure inspired by the movie. The show also features appearances by Jack Skellington and Oogie Boogie. Meanwhile you’re encouraged to sing along with songs from the movie! Oogie Boogie Well, Disney has confirmed that this show will be returning to Jollywood Nights this year. We previously saw an audition notice for general performers for Jollywood Nights, but we recently spotted a listing of shows Disney is looking to cast, including The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing-Along, as well as Frozen Holiday Surprise, a show at Magic Kingdom. ©Disney So that’s confirmation that we’ll get to see the show again this year. Now, granted, Disney hasn’t officially confirmed anything for Jollywood Nights yet this year or offered dates or more details, but if the company is looking for performers for a show, that’s an indication that it’s happening. We’ll be keeping an eye out for those details, so stay tuned to DFB for more. Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Click here to Subscribe! WE KNOW DISNEY. In 2023, Disney World added a LONG-AWAITED character to the Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion. The only problem? His placement! 10 minutes?! The Hatbox Ghost is arguably the most famous single animatronic in Disney history, mainly due to its urban legend status. The figure, which features an effect where the character’s head would “disappear” and then “reappear” inside the hatbox he was holding, had been very briefly included in the original Disneyland Haunted Mansion’s attic during soft opening previews as well as some marketing materials. However, by the time the attraction opened to the general public, the figure was nowhere to be seen. While numerous urban legends about why the character was removed spread over the years, the reality was a technical one. According to Imagineer Chris Merrit, “The gag was based purely on lighting. The ghost’s head was illuminated by black lighting. A light inside the hatbox he held would rhythmically illuminate and hide the head in the hatbox, while, in tandem, the actual head on the ghost’s shoulders would be hidden by extinguishing the black lighting.” Because the effect was based on lighting, it was never up to Imagineering’s standards due to the figure’s proximity to the Doom Buggies. The original Hatbox Ghost Over the decades, the character became a bit of a fan favorite, thanks to the mystique of being removed from one of the park’s most popular attractions. He appeared in various pieces of merchandise and was covered in Disney history books and in fan-produced publications, and even appeared in an episode of House of Mouse. ©Disney After years of speculation, a new version of The Hatbox Ghost finally arrived at Disneyland for the park’s 60th anniversary in 2015. The new figure uses new projection technology that allows the effect to be achieved in the Mansion’s current lighting conditions. Hatbox Ghost in Disneyland From the moment the Hatbox Ghost was added in Disneyland, many began speculating as to whether a version would be added to the Magic Kingdom’s version as well. This came to fruition in 2023, when the figure appeared as part of the Disney company’s centennial celebration, There was just one problem: LOCATION. The Hatbox Ghost was added to the Mansion’s Endless Hallway scene, which occurs BEFORE the sequence when Madame Leota summons the spirits to appear. Many fans were irate that the ghost’s presence at this part of the ride broke the story and hurt the aesthetic of the first half of the ride, and we tend to agree. It’s the Hatbox Ghost! The most confounding part is that there was arguably no need to have the figure in this location. He could have just as easily been placed in the attic as part of the Constance Hatchaway scene, just like in Disneyland, or perhaps added to the graveyard sequence, maybe scaring the Caretaker. This would eliminate the majority of complaints about the character’s presence and fix the narrative flow of the Mansion. Hatbox Ghost in Disney World Having the Hatbox Ghost present is a definite plus to Disney World’s Haunted Mansion… if only its location could be shifted. We’ve officially said goodbye to Muppets Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney is wasting no time getting to work on the transformation of this area to Monstropolis, a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land coming to the park. ©Disney We recently saw some updated concept art for Monsters, Inc. Land, and now, a new map has revealed the location and size of the show building for the land’s suspended roller coaster ride! A newly released map from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District has likely revealed the location and relative size of the new Monsters, Inc. door coaster that’s coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. ©Disney We knew that Disney was expanding into the Cast Member parking lot located behind the land, but this map shows just how massive this building is going to be — approximately 365 feet by 330 feet, giving it a total size of around 103,000 square feet. You can see the large building at the bottom center of the map below, located in part of a backstage Cast Member parking lot. ©Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Disney has already put up construction walls and fenced off this area to begin work on what will be a rather large transformation. The story of the land will pick up after the events of the popular Pixar film, and humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc. Disney shares that here, “you’ll be able to stroll the streets alongside some of your favorite monsters” and even visit the Laugh Factory! ©Disney The new Monsters, Inc. ride will be the first suspended roller coaster EVER in a Disney Park. Josh D’Amaro, Disney Experiences Chairman, said, “Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.” ©Disney An opening timeline for Monsters, Inc. Land has not yet been announced. Construction on the new land has begun as construction walls have appeared in the area following a phased closure of the Grand Avenue area, which began in May and ended on June 8th, resulting in the permanent closure of Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, Muppet*Vision 3D, and PizzeRizzo. If you thought getting a boarding group for a new ride was stressful, just wait until you try to score a souvenir pin these days. Long queue Disney World has always been a place for collectors, but lately, things have reached a whole new level. Limited-release merchandise drops are nothing new, but this current wave of collectible restaurant pins? It’s officially chaos. We’re talking lines forming before the sun’s even up, sell-outs within minutes, and guests walking away empty-handed — and frustrated. Here’s everything going on with the latest must-have merch, and why this trend is spiraling fast. The Restaurant Pin Craze Right now, Disney’s dropping a series of limited-release pins themed to different Disney World restaurants. Sounds harmless enough, right? But these aren’t just any pins. They’re the pins to get. Each one is part of a set, they’re only available for a short time, and supply? Yeah, that’s limited too. ©Facebook That combination means the lines to get them are no joke. Guests have been lining up outside of the pin shops opening just for a shot at getting one. We’ve seen people skipping breakfast and even early ride times just to queue up. It’s giving Black Friday energy, but make it Disney. They’re Selling Out Fast The worst part? Even if you get in line early, there’s still no guarantee you’ll get one. We’ve seen pins sell out before 10AM, and Cast Members have had to turn guests away more than once. So you could wait in line for an hour (or more), only to leave with nothing. Long queue To make things more frustrating, there’s not a ton of transparency about how many pins are available each day. Disney releases them without much warning, and there’s no reservation system or mobile ordering to streamline it. It’s all old-school: show up early, wait, and hope for the best. Are They Worth It? Look, we love a good collectible. Disney pins are fun, they’re detailed, and they hold a lot of nostalgia for longtime fans. But when a souvenir starts disrupting your entire park day? That’s when we start asking if it’s really worth it. ©Instagram We’ve talked to guests who said they skipped their top rides, skipped meals, and even missed out on Lightning Lane windows just to snag a pin. So What Can You Do? If you’re hoping to collect these restaurant pins, here’s our honest advice: Be prepared to wait. Like, really wait. Go early, ideally before the shops open. Bring patience, because the line gets long quickly. Have a backup plan in case they’re sold out by the time you get there. Also, keep in mind that Cast Members do their best to manage the crowds, but they can’t control how many pins are available. And unless Disney changes how these releases are handled, this kind of souvenir scramble might be the new normal. Long queue We’re not saying Disney should stop releasing limited-edition pins—but maybe it’s time for a better system. Virtual queues, mobile purchasing, or even just more transparency about drop times could go a long way. Until then, this trend is only going to get more intense, especially as more fans hear about the restaurant pin series. In the meantime, stay tuned to DFB for the latest Disney news and more. Programming at the Orange County Regional History Center in July includes sessions on the history of downtown Orlando’s Church Street, famous Central Floridians such as astronaut John Young and artist Bob Ross and Florida’s “snubbed cow culture.” The museum’s Lunch & Learn event, set for noon on July 11, looks back at the cattle industry and how an 1895 smear campaign presented it in a bad light. The talk will cover ranching traditions and stories about people “who shaped our cow past and continue to influence our cow present,” according to the history center’s website. Cheyenne Stastyshyn, public programs coordinator at the museum, will be the speaker. (Cost to the general public is $5 without lunch or $17 with a pre-ordered meal.) On July 5, the History Alive event will feature family-friendly activities based on famed Floridians, including poetry writing — on a typewriter — a la Zora Neale Hurston, oil painting like Bob Ross might guide and NASA boxes that mimic training for astronauts such as Orlando’s own John Young. The event also offers four rounds of guided museum tours. On July 17, writer Rick Kilby will speak in a session called “From Railroads to Rosie’s: The Evolution of the Church Street Block.” Think railroad depot to Garland Avenue, along with Bob Snow and the Bumby brothers. The program is tied to the museum’s “Orlando Collected” exhibition, which marks the 150th anniversary of the city’s incorporation. The Church Street chat is folded into downtown’s Third Thursday event, which translations to free history center admission from 5-9 p.m. (Kilby’s talk begins at 5:30 p.m.) The Sensory Sunday for the month covers the history of Orlando soccer teams. The event, set for July 20 from noon to 4 p.m., is designed as a comfortable experience for visitors with autism spectrum disorder and sensory processing sensitivity. A three-part series on genealogy begins July 23. Participants meet with an expert and get a starter packet for exploring family histories. It’s also tied with the “Orlando Collected” exhibition. A Universal Horror Unleashed attraction will open in Chicago, the company announced Thursday, although its first foray into year-round horror isn’t scheduled to open in Las Vegas until August. “We’re bringing the full force of horror and thrills to a whole new audience in a whole new place,” Universal Orlando posted on social media. Unleashed is a product of Orlando-based Universal Destinations & Experiences, a division of Comcast NBCUniversal. It will be Universal’s first location in the Midwest. The company has been exploring new markets. Beyond Las Vegas, Universal is building a kids-oriented theme park near Dallas, which is set to open in 2026, and is planning a theme park in England. The Chicago expansion also is an extension of Universal’s long-running horror brand. Universal Studios invented the film genre in the 1930s with movies based on Dracula, Frankenstein’s monster and other creatures. Universal Studios Florida theme park is preparing its 34th edition of Halloween Horror Nights, an after-hours fright fest that has grown to include Universal Studios Hollywood park in California as well as theme parks in Singapore and Japan. The monsters roam their own land called Dark Universe in the Epic Universe theme park, which opened in Orlando in May. The Chicago venue will be on Chicago Avenue at the former Tribune Distribution Center near Bally’s Casino. “We’re excited to bring this bold concept to life in Chicago, a city known for its vibrant culture,” Page Thompson, president of new ventures at Universal Destinations & Experiences, said in a news release. “We’re grateful for the city’s support as we convert this dormant site into a unique attraction that showcases our storytelling expertise and ability to deliver mind-blowing experiences that shatter guest expectations.” Themes for the new Unleashed mazes, expected to debut in 2027, were not announced. The Las Vegas location will open with four haunted mazes. Email me at dbevil@orlandosentinel.com. BlueSky: @themeparksdb. Threads account: @dbevil. X account: @themeparks. We’ll admit…we love playing with our food. Trilo-Bites And by playing with our food, we mean combining different foods to come up with new flavor combinations and new snacks. Yes, we’ve hacked food in Disney World to create things like a Mickey Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich with Peanut Butter Sauce, a Mickey Cinnamon Roll Ice Cream Sandwich, and even a Num Num Cookie Sundae. Well, we have a NEW hack to tell you about with DOLE Whip, and it’s recreating a flavor combination that hasn’t been available in a long time. Way back in the day, you could get a Pineapple and Orange DOLE Whip Swirl at Aloha Isle in Magic Kingdom. Well, when that was gone, we did manage to sort of recreate it by running to both Aloha Isle for pineapple DOLE Whip and then to Sunshine Tree Terrace for the orange DOLE Whip. But it wasn’t a real swirl, and, well, running around like that just means you end up with a melted DOLE Whip. Sunshine Tree Terrace Well, if you happen to be in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, you can get the Pineapple and Orange DOLE Whip Swirl in one place now! You’ll want to head on over to Trilo-Bites because you can now order DOLE Whip in a cup with either pineapple, orange, or a swirl of the two. So we ordered a pineapple and orange swirl DOLE Whip for $5.79 to try it out there. Pineapple and Orange DOLE Whip Swirl This is THE DOLE Whip for people who love citrus flavors. The pineapple and orange just pair so well together, like Forrest and Jenny or Taylor and Travis. The flavor doesn’t have too much citrus or acid and isn’t super acidic. Instead, it’s well-balanced, although you can still taste both flavors. We also got way more for the price point than we expected, so bonus win. Of course, though…welcome to Florida, where DOLE Whip melts FAST. It’s okay, though, we’ll drink it if we have to. MEEELLLTIIINNG.
